Boston city Councilor Tania Fernandes Anderson pleaded guilty Monday to federal wire fraud and theft charges for taking a $7,000 kickback inside a City Hall bathroom from a relative who worked on her staff The 46-year-old Democrat who made history in 2021 as the first Muslim elected to the council appeared emotional during the hearing in US District Court Boston and said afterward You have to accept the journey even when it hurts I am looking forward to some healing from this and personal growth.” US District Judge Indira Talwani scheduled sentencing for July 29 As part of a plea deal Fernandes Anderson signed in April prosecutors will recommend she serve a year and a day in prison and pay $13,000 in restitution The agreement doesn’t specify what sentence the defense will recommend who had said last month that she will resign said Monday she has yet to set a date but expects it will be sometime in June She said she has been focused on creating a guide that will ease the transition for her constituents in District 7 the most historically diverse neighborhoods in Boston “When I knew or decided that I needed to agree to a plea I have been planning to make sure that my staff was OK so that there’s a softer landing,” Fernandes Anderson told reporters outside the courthouse Fernandes Anderson was arrested by the FBI at her home in Dorchester in December on federal wire fraud and theft charges She announced in April that she had reached a deal with the government and would be pleading guilty to some of the charges she pleaded guilty to two counts for allegedly arranging to receive a kickback from a City Council staff member: one count of wire fraud and one count of theft from a program receiving federal funds Four other wire fraud counts were dropped by prosecutors as part of the deal A federal indictment alleges Fernandes Anderson hired her relative in December 2022 then gave her a $13,000 bonus months later with a caveat: She had to funnel more than half of it back to the councilor Mulcahy said if the case had gone to trial prosecutors were prepared to prove that Fernandes Anderson arranged for the relative to get a bonus “nearly twice as large as total bonuses to other staff combined,” based on their agreement that she would kick $7,000 of it back to the councilor After the city deposited the bonus into the relative’s account she withdrew the money in three increments and arranged to meet Fernandes Anderson At around 4 p.m. on a Friday in June 2023, the pair met in a bathroom at City Hall, where Fernandes Anderson took the $7,000 cash from the staffer and stuffed it in her pocket Fernandes Anderson received a one-word text from her relative saying “Ready,” before meeting to collect the cash “Any disagreement with those facts?” Talwani asked Fernandes Anderson “Are you in fact guilty of counts 1 and counts 6?” Talwani asked “Yes your honor,” Fernandes Anderson said in a soft voice Prosecutors allege Fernandes Anderson arranged the kickback when she was struggling financially and facing bank overdraft fees and a $5,000 fine from the state Ethics Commission for previously hiring relatives to her council staff A statement of facts filed in court in April indicates that as part of the plea agreement Fernandes Anderson also admitted to filing fraudulent federal income tax returns for three years; however she has not been charged with tax offenses the judge interrupted Mulcahy as he began describing the tax allegations noting that Fernandes Anderson was not charged with those crimes She instructed him to focus on the counts she was pleading guilty to A handful of friends and relatives attended the hearing in support of Fernandes Anderson including State Representative Russell Holmes “You have to be there for people when they need you,” said Holmes who described Fernandes Anderson as a kind-hearted person and a friend who was going through a difficult time the council does not have the power to remove a sitting councilor unless they have been sentenced for a felony conviction Fernandes Anderson will continue to receive her $120,000 salary until she is sentenced unless she formally vacates her seat earlier Fernandes Anderson has said her constituents did not want her to resign before May 8 which could require the city to hold a special election for her successor her seat will remain vacant until after the November general election Speaking to reporters about Fernandes Anderson at an unrelated event Monday She said her administration is committed to ensuring that District 7 residents receive answers to any questions they have and access to services they may need council President Ruthzee Louijeune said “The residents of District 7 deserve principled and trustworthy representation and I am deeply disappointed that this standard was not met.” She added she’s committed to making sure that District 7 “is represented with competence and care both during this period and upon Councilor Fernandes Anderson’s resignation.” Home Delivery Gift Subscriptions Log In Manage My Account Customer Service Delivery Issues Feedback News Tips Help & FAQs Staff List Advertise Newsletters View the ePaper Order Back Issues News in Education Search the Archives Privacy Policy Terms of Service Terms of Purchase Work at Boston Globe Media Internship Program Co-op Program Do Not Sell My Personal Information Mia Threapleton got an email from Wes Anderson The director told her that the movie they’d shot last year and asked when she’d be available to watch it “My movie theater etiquette brain kicked in so what am I going to do?” Threapleton tells Vanity Fair “I know: I’ll buy two huge tomatoes from the grocers around the corner.” She brought the fresh produce to the theater before realizing she’d be watching the movie alone “The minute the opening credits started rolling I burst into tears while about to take a bite out of a tomato,” she says Threapleton cried intermittently through the rest She felt startled by her prominence on the big screen: “Oh my God she sent Anderson a voice note telling him how much she loved the film He told her he was happy she enjoyed the movie—and added “I wish someone had told you that we were going to be on your own Courtesy of TPS Productions/Focus Features. All of this The 24-year-old English actor has appeared in a handful of films and TV series including a small part in the Jude Law period drama Firebrand and a main role on Apple TV+’s The Buccaneers But a lead role in an Anderson film—stuffed with A-listers and his most beloved recurring collaborators—is beyond uncharted territory Premiering later this month at the Cannes Film Festival the movie marks the moment Threapleton will be discovered by a larger public to say nothing of the industry itself; despite being a newcomer to this singular filmmaker’s world It’s also the moment more people are bound to learn about Threapleton’s background—specifically Threapleton has no interest in hiding this fact She recently acted opposite her Oscar-winning mother in a devastating installment of Channel 4’s I Am… series and speaks to me about her upbringing—and decision to follow in Winslet’s footsteps—with a breezy ease “She was incredibly supportive of my desire to want to do this on my own because that’s how she did it “Now I get to talk to her about cool work stories that I have experienced myself that will come with walking the red carpet at Cannes for the first time Anderson watched hundreds of quick audition tapes while casting the role of Sister Liesl in The Phoenician Scheme “She was clearly really thinking about every moment She just seemed completely authentic,” the filmmaker tells me “When you see the same scene played again and again and again by people who maybe aren’t right for the part anyway to have somebody who seems like she’s in a documentary and she’s interesting—this stops everything.” Anderson asked to meet her in person in London and instantly wasn’t nervous about him at all because he was wearing pink socks and hotel slippers with glasses,” Threapleton says ‘We should probably do some acting right?’” She didn’t start to get familiar with the script until later and it was treated as top secret; she could only access an encrypted file in tight time windows before the screen test that followed she was surrounded by strangers on a train “I burst into tears and hid in a bike locker on the train and just sat down and cried and called everybody I could think of to call,” she says Zsa-zsa Korda (Benicio del Toro)—a wealthy businessman with a long list of enemies They haven’t seen each other in six years when he seeks her out after surviving yet another attempt on his life to be exact.) He presents her with an elaborate plan to secure her future by appointing her the successor of a dicey land-expansion project that’s been decades in the making heavily accented Norwegian tutor Bjorn (Michael Cera) embark on a dangerous yet whimsical mission to see it through peppered along the way with such stars as Bryan Cranston Courtesy of TPS Productions/Focus Features. Here Anderson movingly revisits the kind of troubled father-daughter dynamic he explored in The Royal Tenenbaums within the structure of a fast-paced caper that’s at times giddily reminiscent of The Grand Budapest Hotel The plot’s high-risk hijinx paves a path for a resonant family tale but the movie is the story of them negotiating their way across this gulf and making a deal to be a family,” Anderson says and then there were big whole layers,” the actor says and there’s just always more and more stuff…more layers to run around.” Threapleton experienced Anderson’s full “summer camp” approach to filmmaking The ground floor featured AV offices and the costumes department with hair and makeup down the hall; breakfast and dinner was “in the middle bit,” with individual rooms on the other side Threapleton went swimming with the crew in the lake nearby She got asked out to lunch by Cranston one day Mia.” Those pinch-me moments happened pretty regularly “I remember this moment where I had Tom Hanks on my left and Michael to the other side,” Threapleton says “Tom was telling a story about an experience that he’d had filming Saving Private Ryan I just sat there and I put my hands under my legs Threapleton has been an Anderson fan since she saw Fantastic Mr and points to Moonrise Kingdom as a personal favorite she wondered what it would be like to work with him and Del Toro rehearsed for about a week before cameras started rolling only Del Toro had worked with Anderson before in The French Dispatch.) “This is probably going to sound a little bit strange…but [Wes] loves naturalism,” Threapleton says “He’s so clear about what it is that he wants… But the amount of creative freedom that everybody has while working with him is brilliant.” By the first official day of filming she felt fully—almost disarmingly—in sync with his worldview and Wes came in and just quickly moved something and then went back,” Threapleton recalls That makes complete sense.’” She’d ask about making physical adjustments: an eye movement “are my shoulders up or down more?” She likens filming a given scene in The Phoenician Scheme to being a part of a “tableau”: “It’s happening right in front of you Mia Threapleton and Kate Winslet accepting the single-drama award for “I Am Ruth” during the 2023 BAFTA Television Awards Threapleton first went to Germany for a film shoot when she was seven years old—though not for her own film The family spent some time there while Winslet shot The Reader the Holocaust drama that won her a best-actress Oscar “We didn’t know anything about it at all,” Threapleton says This was generally how things worked growing up She did not have a sense of her mother’s decorated career Hollywood was kept as far away from her as it seemed on the map “[An actor] taking their kid to a film set seems like the equivalent of a lawyer taking their child into a courtroom,” Threapleton says she got her first sense of Winslet’s notoriety The star was asked to do a reading at a literary festival; Threapleton was in the crowd “I propped myself up on my knees and looked around and there were so many people,” Threapleton says Loads of people know who you are!’ She said they kind of do.’” But Threapleton says she wasn’t used to seeing scripts around the house or feel fame encroaching on the family’s private life Every part of Winslet’s career was contained in the star’s small home office which Threapleton never dared enter because “there were usually birthday presents that were hidden under the desk.” It’s not something that I think would really serve my life very much,” Threapleton continues So I was just never that aware of the knownness of her until I got a little bit later in my teenage years.” Her childhood dream of being a marine biologist was dashed when she realized “I can’t do math and I’m rubbish at science.” She was about 13 when she first said out loud that she wanted to be an actor; her mom was the first person she told I’m so excited for you,’ and I won’t ever forget what she said next,” Threapleton says before an uncanny Winslet starts coming through in her voice It’s really hard work—but that’s why I love it.’” looking for agents and seeking out open auditions on casting websites She’s now beaten her mother to the distinction of starring in a Wes Anderson movie Threapleton hung around the Phoenician set She’d sneak into a corner to watch the action without disrupting it “I ended up hiding under a table with a tablecloth and watching from behind the camera while laying on my stomach,” she says she assumed she was in a dream and waited for someone to wake her up but I really can’t believe that I was a part of it recorded live from the festival and publishing every day Live Updates From the 2025 Met Gala See All the Fashion, Outfits, and Looks on the Met Gala Red Carpet Plus, Who Made VF’s Best-Dressed List Kim Kardashian Dons Sleek The Met Gala’s Tailored for You Theme Winners: Who Did It Best Diana Ross Returns to the Red Carpet With an 18-Foot Train Everything to Know About the 2025 Met Gala Watch the Met Gala Livestream Designer Prabal Gurung Recalls His First Met Gala Revisit the Most Unforgettable Met Gala Looks of All Time Raynor Winn’s tale of 630-mile forced hike around south west coastal path should boost visitor numbers Some walk with a sense of escaping problems others with the idea of striding towards a goal Many more are expected to head to the South West Coast Path, the 630-mile route around the shores of Somerset, Devon, Cornwall and Dorset as the film The Salt Path hits cinema screens The movie, starring Gillian Anderson and Jason Isaacs, is based on the book of the same name by Raynor Winn telling the story of how she and her husband took to the path after being forced from their home and found peace A gala screening takes place close to the path at the Lighthouse Cinema in Newquay, Cornwall, on Tuesday before its UK release on 30 May – and the hope is that more people will be inspired to walk it People such as Jennifer Lessard, 45, from New York, who was found walking a stretch of the path in Torbay, south Devon “It’s just so beautiful,” she said as she looked across a tree-lined bay She plans to walk the path a few sections at a time during the visits to the UK “It’s life-affirming to walk,” said Lessard “And I like the pubs at the end of the day They live more than 300 miles apart and get together for walking holidays “It’s a great way for us to meet and catch up,” said Roy Psychologists have noted that walking is a good time to have difficult conversations – you are side by side but not engaging with eye contact Roy and Paul Saxton on the path near Babbacombe, Torquay. In Minnesota, big lakes mean big fish, and lots of them. According to the Department of Natural Resources, the state’s 10 largest inland lakes feature a combined surface area of 825,000 acres and produce about 40% of Minnesota’s annual walleye harvest. These lakes — and their walleyes — also account for the bulk of the approximately $2.4 billion spent each year on fishing in Minnesota. So important are these waterways that the DNR assigns a fisheries specialist to each. And every fall, the agency gauges each lake’s productivity so bag limits and other restrictions can be adjusted, if necessary. Going fishing on the opener or later this summer? Rebel Grounds’ cafe operations manager brews the perfect blend of precision and creativity to keep campus energized throughout the day Alumna Gina Anderson is the operations manager for the Rebel Grounds’ cafe she might be the one behind those awesome flavors It’s not uncommon to see a dozen people gathered in the lobby of Hospitality Hall And for good reason — the experience is well worth the wait.  Rebel Grounds’ cafe operations manager Gina Anderson has played an instrumental role in shaping the cozy atmosphere and standout service that keep customers coming back for more the cafe offers a flavorful lineup of hot and cold drinks along with an assortment of breakfast and lunch items Anderson’s role began with a simple email to the college’s catering team As an undergraduate pursuing a bachelor’s degree in gender and sexuality studies What started as a part-time role soon turned into something much more Rising through the ranks to become a student supervisor she had no idea that her campus job would lead to a full-time position as the Harrah College of Hospitality’s first-ever cafe operations manager after she graduated in 2022 The Las Vegas native takes pride in partnering with local vendors like Mothership Coffee – a women-owned coffee bean roaster Her commitment to local sourcing and personalized service cultivates a workplace that inspires creativity among the all-student staff who are encouraged to craft their own specialty drinks like the dessert-inspired “cinnamon bun latte” or the winter-themed concoction “candy cane cold brew.”  “Seeing your drink on the menu and having people ordering it makes it fun Especially when it’s their next go-to drink,” said Anderson.  Her approach has translated into record-breaking profits for Rebel Grounds pushing the college to offer summer hours for the first time since the cafe’s opening.   “For all the ways that I think I’ve improved Rebel Grounds it’s improved me as well,” Anderson reflects “The amount of problem solving and people management has really helped me become a better person.” I train the new baristas to prioritize making drinks correctly — using precise measurements and keeping a clean station — over how fast we go A quality drink or food should never be compromised by how fast you want to go Once they have that foundation for making things correctly and knowing what they look and taste like it makes it a better experience for the customers because then their drinks are consistent and good Definitely our strawberry shortcake latte; we make it with house-made sea salt cream I would say we make at least a hundred or so per day People also go crazy for the strawberry matcha — it’s a secret menu item Stephanie [Bogert] cooks up a mean chorizo breakfast wrap that we literally cannot keep on the shelves All the baristas get an individual picture Everyone gets excited when there's a new person each semester and gets their picture taken You’d think I would have a really specific order I'm a person that has a bunch of different hobbies going on at the same time she'll start howling when she gets excited It's less of one moment and more of when I understood how valuable taking the time to teach people what I know I would like to do everything all by myself Then I realized once I started to delegate and show people how to work the machines that helped them become better baristas and also better problem solvers: how to clean machines the right way and teaching has been the biggest difference and has shaped my perspective on being a successful manager and that has made people feel really comfortable around me I just finished Temptation Island and before that I finished the next season of Love is Blind.  and helped me become the person and manager that I am and Daisy Lopez — they're all integral to my experience and success at UNLV.  I love them so much They've been awesome to me and have made me want to stay as long as I have I have a lot of gratitude for Stephanie and It’s the basis for their barbecue lifestyle brand which uses food to bring people together around family products in the brand’s line are designed to take grilling to the next level.  The pair worked with culinary scientists to craft their own special seasonings which reflect the best in global traditions evident as a gift set of the items became one of “Oprah’s Favorite Things,” in 2024 AC Barbeque has also partnered with Sodexo to launch campus kitchens at several colleges and have collaborated with Arby’s to introduce two new barbecue sandwiches available through the chain featuring slow cooked pulled pork and brisket as well as Cedric’s Sweet Bussin Brown Sugar Sauce and Anthony’s Spicy Chipotle Smoke Sauce AC Barbeque’s first official restaurant will open in Beverly Hills during the second week of May Whether you spell it "barbeque" as AC does per the Southern vernacular or "barbecue," a more commonly used spelling as the entertainers turned entrepreneurs visited campus to launch their first food truck In between the ribbon cutting and scores of selfies the two shared some insight into their journey as business owners.  Q: Why barbecue and how did you get into this arena Cedric the Entertainer: We just always believed that barbecue was a part of our culture We noticed that there wasn’t a national brand out there that represented Black people in this space That really was the basis and the birth of how we came up with AC Anthony Anderson: We’re not brand ambassadors It’s rooted in culture and fueled by community That’s the culture of our business AC Barbeque Anthony: I started in these Howard halls back in 1988 I've seen what the Blackburn Center has become for the students and to have AC Barbeque food truck here is what it's all about It gives the students something to aspire to on the business side as well That's part of what our company is in the process of establishing a business program for entrepreneurship and ownership and franchising and learning the ends and out Q: You guys have dominated the acting space but now you're moving into an entrepreneur space Why do you think that's important for you as individuals and then why do you think that's important for black people in general?  by taking an idea from its inception and building it and learning what it is — I think it's important We've seen great examples of people who have post careers of the things that they're known and our good friend Magic Johnson is one of the one of the key people that inspires us all the time He’s one that showed us that we are renaissance in so many ways We are not just a sum of the one thing that we do or are known for and that we can aspire to be everything that's inside of us We made great strides on the screen and on stage and live performances but we're also businessmen and we also think about how to build businesses and build real legacy that goes beyond just ourselves to the point that no other African American company has a nationally known brand And so this is something that leads and the next thing you know we're covering all kind of other spaces.  Q: What did you learn so far as an entrepreneur that you didn't know going in?  but we also recognize that we have to sometime take steps back We have to be not overzealous about things that look like wins when we look at what our business is really doing Those are the things that we've been learning step by step It’s just been great to build a great team great partnerships with people that we trust and love and want us to win they don't want they don't want to see us fail so you end up being in an environment that allows you to make a few mistakes then get it back right it's one thing to manufacture it and produce it and get it on the shelves We've still got to get out and create growth or relationships within the community and within the consumers to not only have it on the shelves but also with the person who was making the purchases for the stores and the person who is going to position it in the stores.  You gotta fight for people's attention and then if you love your business And I encourage all young people who have a dream to know that Where are you trying to take this over the next 24 months Anthony: It's good to have those short-term goals but we also have the long-term goals as well get the restaurant up and get that running successfully we can take that out and have that franchised across the country Getting into airports and getting into the space of not just restaurants Why not have AC Barbecue packages or our sauce next to the ketchup and the mayonnaise and the mustard in sports arenas Here in Blackburn and at the counter when you're buying any food so that that's where we see ourselves more and so we'll continue to grow in that space The Martha Stewart of barbecue…we want to cover many facets We want to become the Coachella of barbecue where we [have] big smoke fests and music acts We've seen these as tiers or rungs on the ladder of businesses that we can do with this lifestyle of the world of barbecue Our public relations team can connect you with faculty experts and answer questions about Howard University news He’s also watched her undergo radiation therapy and multiple major surgeries to keep the cancer at bay.   Now, he is drawing inspiration from his mother’s experiences as he faces his own stage IV colorectal cancer diagnosis.   it’s been a blessing to see her navigate it,” William says “It’s been hard to watch him suffer,” she admits “But it’s so inspiring to see him come through it I consider it a blessing that we’re experiencing this together.”  Though no common thread or genetic mutation links their diseases both William and Faye learned that they had cancer at the same time of year and when they were about the same age William had turned 38 a few months before his diagnosis in January 2022 while Faye was 39 at the time of her diagnosis in January 2000.  Both deliberately sought treatment at MD Anderson: William from gastrointestinal medical oncologist Christine Parseghian, M.D., and his mother from orthopedic surgical oncologist Valerae Lewis, M.D. “I told William he would meet some of the most important people in his life at MD Anderson,” recalls Faye “Nobody knew what to do about adenoid cystic carcinoma near our home in Mississippi Lewis has given me the best possible outcome with every surgery I really can’t say enough good things about MD Anderson.”  Before William’s cancer diagnosis, the most important advice his mother ever gave him was to listen to his body. That’s what finally prompted him to investigate the change in bowel habits that was making his job in law enforcement difficult.  “I was having to go to the bathroom quite a bit,” William recalls. “Otherwise, I was pretty healthy. So, I tried to dismiss my symptoms as irritable bowel syndrome I tell everyone now to pay attention and advocate for themselves You’re the only person who truly knows what’s going on inside of you.”  Faye also advised him to become active as quickly as possible “Don’t just sit there,” he recalls her saying Faye, meanwhile, has started eating healthier, inspired by the dietary changes she’s watched her son and his family make to reduce his risk of the cancer coming back “He’s been a lot faster on the lifestyle stuff than I have,” she admits I’m actually learning from him these days.”  William has shown no evidence of disease since January 2025. Faye is currently exploring treatment options for a small new cluster of tumors discovered recently beneath her right breast But both are determined to keep spreading the word about body awareness and prevention.   William’s diagnosis has already led four of his colleagues to get colorectal cancer screenings. Another is about to have a colonoscopy.  “It’s great to know that my journey is helping others,” says William.   “I was too young to have regular screening mammograms at the time of my diagnosis,” adds Faye. “But you can bet that I started getting them afterward. Now, I get so many scans per year that it would be hard for something to slip by. Still, I don’t put anything off. If a screening protocol exists for a particular disease I tell everyone else to do the same.”   Request an appointment at MD Anderson online or call 1-877-632-6789 an error occurred processing your subscription request Our patients depend on blood and platelet donations Show your support for our mission through branded merchandise © 2025 The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center — “Looking Up Arts,” an experienced artist team from San Francisco that focuses on interactive large scale art installations will create a functional art installation for Anderson Park in downtown Jackson in June 2025.  “Looking Up Arts” was chosen through a competitive application process by a selection committee of Public Art Commission members and site stakeholders to bring new life to an empty sidewalk space This project is led by Our Jackson Home and the City of Jackson.  “We’re excited to bring our artwork to Jackson and to contribute to the creative energy of Anderson Park Inspired by Jackson’s rich music scene our installation celebrates the vibrancy of the community through bold and playful designs We hope to add a joyful splash of color and create a gathering place in this well-loved public space,” Srikanth Guttikonda founder of “Looking Up Arts,” said.  The upcoming installation will be a permanent piece of art expected to be in the space for many years to come and will transform an underutilized section of sidewalk into a vibrant The piece includes multiple sculptures that will also function as tables and chairs for the public to use The design will incorporate agricultural and musical elements complimenting the neighboring Farmers’ Market and AMP.  “We can’t wait for people to sit at the tables and enjoy the art when they visit the area,” said Lizzie Emmons “It will be a colorful and useful addition to Jackson’s Arts District.”  The installation is made possible through a partnership between the City of Jackson and the Our Jackson Home program at theCO was named USA Today’s #3 Best City for Street Art in 2025 reflecting a continued collaborative effort to grow the City’s collection of street art for residents and visitors alike to enjoy To learn more about public art in Jackson, visit ourjacksonhome.com/publicart For more news in the Jackson area, click here star of The Last Showgirl is taking on Tennessee Williams play Camino Real with Nicholas Alexander Chavez Coming off of her success as the star of The Last Showgirl which netted her first Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild award nominations for Best Actress, Pamela Anderson is returning to the stage this summer for the 2025 Williamstown Theatre Festival Anderson will play Marguerite in Camino Real opposite Chavez who will play Kilroy and Whitney Peak of Hocus Pocus 2 fame According to People "Williams' play follows an American sailor named Kilroy as he navigates a bizarre which is fragmented as it features non-linear scenes Kilroy meets various characters including historical figures like Don Quixote and Lord Byron." The jury needs to be instructed that everybody has a right to free speech,” said Weaver, who previously told FLORIDA TODAY that Anderson was not present at the home when the party took place but rather out to dinner with Elizabeth Hill-Brodigan then-principal of Roosevelt Elementary School Anderson only arrived at the home after police called Hill-Brodigan to alert her that a party was being held at her residence Weaver filed a motion to dismiss all three charges on April 23, saying body cam footage that showed Anderson admitting to drinking at the party and shouting profanities at a Cocoa Beach police officer was accurate but that Anderson's actions "do not support any of the three charges as a matter of law." Anderson entered pleas of not guilty for all counts Anderson's trial comes less than four months after she was arrested in connection to the alcohol-fueled party at Hill-Brodigan's home was initially charged with child neglect and contributing to the delinquency of a minor The party and arrests garnered national media coverage with body cam footage circulating on social media in the following weeks Following the arrests, both Anderson and Hill-Brodigan were placed on paid administrative leave by Brevard Public Schools. But because Anderson was cleared of felony charges, she was allowed to return to the classroom in mid-April, this time at Saturn Elementary School in Cocoa She worked at the school for two days before being put back on paid leave with School Board Vice Chair Matt Susin saying the district had not previously seen body cam footage showing her shouting profanities at a Cocoa Beach police officer according to BPS Spokesperson Janet Murnaghan Hill-Brodigan was placed on unpaid leave after she was formally charged at the end of March with one count of child neglect five counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and one count of holding an open house party A trial date for Hill-Brodigan has not been set Several of the 24 initial jurors in Anderson's trial admitted to having prior knowledge of the case from consuming news media Multiple jurors said they had seen video of Anderson appearing to be under the influence of alcohol in various news reports and stated that it could impact their impartiality on the case Musselman told jurors she expected the trial to take no more than two or three days Tyler Vazquez is the Brevard County Watchdog Reporter at FLORIDA TODAY Contact Vazquez at 321-480-0854 or tvazquez@floridatoday.com The Big Bounce America tour is making its much-anticipated return to the upstate area from May 9 to May 11 Visitors can find the inflatable attraction at the Anderson Motor Speedway visitors can enjoy three hours of inflatable activities featuring a variety of attractions suitable for all ages Ticket prices begin at $22. Click here or visit https://thebigbounceamerica.com/tour-dates/. to purchase tickets or find out more about pricing “We need more fun in the world, and what better way to take that into 2025 than with a 24,000-square- foot bounce house," said Noa Visnich, Tour Manager of The Big Bounce America The tour offers designated sessions tailored to accommodate different age groups while there's also a special adult-only session for those aged 16 and older It's important to note that children aged 3 and under need to be accompanied by a parent or caretaker to ensure their safety and supervision This year's highlights include the massive 24,000 square-foot Bounce House and the newly added Under-The-Sea Bouncer which offers a whimsical underwater adventure and air space themed inflatables with slides and ball pits The inflatable bounce house also includes a sports slam inflatable with a custom-built sports arena a deep-sea foam party inflatable play area Big Bounce America: What to expect? The World's Biggest Bounce House has been supersized to over 24,000 square feet Attendees can expect live DJs playing the hottest tracks The Giant Inflatable Obstacle CourseThe Giant Inflatable Obstacle Course is three times longer than the average soccer field and boasts over 50 unique obstacles OctoBlast is a brand-new attraction and is part bouncer it invites participants to enter a deep-sea world filled with colorful ocean characters and enjoy playful foam cannons in front of the huge pufferfish party stage The Air Space Inflatable Obstacle Course is an "out-of-this-world attraction" where visitors can bounce among friendly aliens This inflatable playground also features moon crater ball pits for explorers and problem solvers Sport Slam is an inflatable attraction that offers a customized sports arena filled with balls of every size and type It features special climbing areas and a "battle zone" where participants can compete against friends and family in bouncy challenges Travis Rose covers Anderson County for the Independent Mail. Atlanta traded him to the Angels just before Opening Day, a one-for-one swap which sent José Suarez the other way Both out-of-options pitchers struggled with their new clubs and were DFA’d after a few appearances Atlanta passed Suarez through waivers unclaimed and also claimed Anderson back from the Angels Now Anderson has cleared as well and will join Suarez in Gwinnett Although Anderson debuted way back in 2020 he has just over two years of major league service time he has been in the minor leagues for the past two-plus years spending most of that time recovering from his surgery He wasn’t collecting any big league service during that stretch That’s now notable because players need three years of service in order to have the right to reject an outright assignment and elect free agency Anderson is shy of that line and therefore has to accept this assignment he and Atlanta will use this opportunity to get him stretched out and back on track He’s a former third overall pick and top prospect with past success in the majors as well he logged 160 2/3 innings with a 3.25 earned run average His 10% walk rate was a tad high but he punched out 24.5% of opponents and got grounders at a 49.9% clip He also made four postseason starts in each of those seasons with a 0.96 ERA in 2020 and a 1.59 ERA in 2021 helping the club win the World Series in the latter campaign He has largely been derailed by injuries since he made 15 minor league starts last year with a 3.44 ERA 10.1% walk rate and 51.9% ground ball rate If Anderson could get in a groove and start to look like the version he showed a few years back he could quickly jump back up the depth chart Despite the twists and turns in his career Atlanta Braves Transactions Are the braves the best pitching factory in a sense that they have a guy break out like every year to become a star only to fade away into obscurity within 2 seasons yes they are exactly that lol…Soroka They’ve also had success turning back the clock with several veteran pitchers the last 15-20 years … Anibal Sanchez Even Steve Avery flamed out before he hit 30 Ahh man Steve Avery was one of the best too have signed memorabilia from him….Medlen and Beachy (and Avery) are by far my favorites on the list Huge gut punch when they both went down in spring training He hasn’t been the same since going on the IL with aqua lung but i feel old when the article says “way back in 2020” Went from sitting on the park bench to waivers I guess they really don’t mind if he sits this one out If Spencer Strider injures his driving leg I was WAY too late for the clever Jethro Tull references Who knew that the Venn diagram of prog rock fans and fantasy baseball fans was a perfect circle Log in Register MLB Trade Rumors is not affiliated with Major League Baseball Register This website is unavailable in your location It appears you are attempting to access this website from a country outside of the United States therefore access cannot be granted at this time Please enable JS and disable any ad blocker DISCLAIMER: This story includes brief mention of domestic violence against a minor News 8 has chosen not to identify the relationship between the suspect and victim (WISH) — The director of an addiction recovery center in Anderson has been arrested after police say he battered a 15-year-old Darwin Dwiggins with the Madison County Sheriff’s Department confirmed the arrest to News 8 early Thursday was taken into custody at his home outside Anderson sometime Friday It was not clear what led up to Lazar’s arrest or if anyone else was involved Lazar was booked into the Madison County jail and released Monday An online jail tracker shows he faces preliminary charges of confinement and domestic battery resulting in moderate bodily injury Lazar works as the director of operations at Grace Recovery and Wellness Grace Recovery is an addiction treatment center that offers “medication assisted treatment for opioid and alcohol substance abuse.” Lazar also manages Grace House a sober living housing facility for those transitioning from addiction to sobriety Prosecutors told News 8 Thursday charges have not been filed yet as the case is still under review News 8 also reached out to Grace Recovery and Wellness for information on Lazar
