amid an endless sprawl of concrete and construction zones a handful of curious city dwellers find themselves surrounded by dense moss exotic reptiles and a potentially alarming amount of animal bones does one find such a collection in the middle of Chicago They’ve found The Insect Asylum a family-run nonprofit museum of preserved and live insects natural oddities and artwork in the Logan Square neighborhood said the space grew from her personal collection She said she has since amassed close to 20,000 species on display — plants “Guests know that there’s a second home here where they can listen to the birds sing hear the crickets and see these beautiful animals year round without any barriers,” Salem said The Insect Asylum specializes in historical collections vintage and new taxidermy and mortuary art Salem refuses to work on hunted animals and stresses her belief in ethically sourced specimens including curator and educator Grace Johnson have restored and preserved most of the large mammals on display “I’m into making art of something that’s typically ‘not so beautiful,’” Johnson said “It shows that death can be beautiful and being able to preserve the past and all of these animals to enhance their natural beauty is magical.”  While several installations have been newly preserved by staff the majority of the museum’s current work focuses on pets to provide rarely found commemoration for those grieving their companions Those go to the owners and are not on display “It’s really beautiful because they get to be with us for a very short time and then they get to go back home where they belong,” Salem said Salem hopes the space might help guests face the grim reality of death “People come here for all different reasons mourning and grief are things that are … sticky,” Salem said “There’s not a plant or an animal that will not go through this same intrinsic process of passing away,” Salem said “By breathing new life into these animals we are allowing people to understand that there’s different ways to process and embrace grief.” Displays at The Insect Asylum in Chicago feature local artist’s work in addition to preserved insect and animal exhibits on Friday The museum supports local creatives and encourages artists and employees to share their work sits next to a preserved Barbary sheep at The Insect Asylum in Chicago on Friday Most of the displayed in a case at The Insect Asylum in Chicago on Friday The Insect Asylum specializes in historical insect collections discusses its unique collection of natural oddities and art on Friday “I spent many years dwelling in the forest and falling in love with all that it had to offer,” Salem said “I very quickly built a large enough collection to open the museum.” guests have brought deceased animals and animals experiencing the process of passing into the space for guidance and mortuary services Salem said people who’ve lost friends and family also come to the space to grieve “My mother is dying and I don’t know what to do and somebody said that I needed to come here Salem and the visitor discussed what it means to pass on as the visitor bonded with a baby raccoon — his mother’s favorite animal — that was housed at the museum for just several hours The visitor later shared that his mother had passed away during the time he was feeding the racoon Salem said that the visitor believed that the raccoon was his mother “showing him signs of new life.” I don’t know how I would’ve been able to process the grief and emotions bottling up that I was feeling It gave me a really constructive way to look at death through a beautiful lens,” Salem said the visitor told her The Insect Asylum also functions as an animal sanctuary and rehabilitation center for surrendered exotic animals and those in foster programs Some need immediate care before finding their forever homes Salem remarks that guests often think it’s “kind of strange” that the museum has so many animals yet doesn’t keep them long term Salem said she doesn’t believe all of the museum’s living animals belong there long term The Insect Asylum hopes to be “a stop in the right direction” for animals in need the museum offers guests the chance to view live members of the animal kingdom including snakes Most are housed in the museum’s upper level so that guests who may fear have the opportunity to safely view them “without the fear of them jumping out at you,” Salem said The museum’s preservation of the natural world and animals promotes “preserving the past so that we can act on it in the future,” Johnson said understanding and appreciation of the natural world and animals in need To those struggling with relocating to Chicago’s bustling urban environment The Insect Asylum provides a chance to connect with nature through the exhibits as well as local art installations and employee-led classes This thing that far outnumbers and outexists us!’ It’s good to know our place,” said Morph Borch the museum’s sales and marketing specialist and coexisting with them is how we avoid calamitous environmental consequences.” Comment * document.getElementById("comment").setAttribute( "id" von 26,2 Millionen US-Dollar was einer Steigerung von 82,2% gegenüber 2023 entspricht AEHL shows strong revenue growth but concerning profitability with gross losses and consecutive reverse stock splits indicating significant financial challenges Antelope Enterprise's 2024 financial results reveal concerning profitability issues despite impressive topline growth While revenue increased 37% to $98.7 million for the full year and surged 100.1% to $55.3 million in the second half the company's profit metrics deteriorated significantly Most alarming is the shift from a 10.4% gross profit margin in 2023 to a -0.1% gross loss in 2024 indicating the company is now selling services below cost Net losses widened to $10.6 million from $2.0 million in 2023 though the prior year benefited from a $10.4 million one-time gain from divesting their ceramic tile business Positive indicators include doubled cash reserves to $1.0 million and increased stockholders' equity of $26.2 million (82.2% growth) the $5.2 million in notes payable represents a substantial obligation relative to cash holdings Particularly concerning are the two dramatic reverse stock splits implemented within seven months - a 1-for-10 split in September 2024 followed by a 1-for-40 split in April 2025 which cumulatively reduced share count by a factor of 400 typically reflect significant challenges in maintaining share price thresholds While the client expansion strategy has successfully diversified their customer base from 116 to 256 clients the fundamental question remains whether sacrificing margins for growth is sustainable in China's increasingly competitive livestreaming ecommerce market AEHL's aggressive customer acquisition strategy has doubled revenue but created unsustainable margins in China's hypercompetitive livestreaming market Antelope Enterprise's KylinCloud subsidiary has made a strategic choice to prioritize market share over profitability in China's hypercompetitive livestreaming ecommerce sector This approach delivered strong client acquisition results - growing from approximately 116 to 256 clients year-over-year - but at the significant cost of margin erosion The company explicitly acknowledges the challenging competitive landscape noting "rapid growth of the livestreaming ecommerce sector in China which has fueled intensified competition and which has resulted in price cutting across the sector that compressed margins." Their response has been to deliberately offer lower prices to establish deeper customer relationships betting they can later monetize through value-added services This strategy resembles the classic "land and expand" playbook seen in many technology markets KylinCloud's value proposition centers on matching consumer brands with appropriate influencers and hosts these services are increasingly becoming commoditized in China's maturing livestreaming ecosystem The partnership with Douyin (China's TikTok) represents a logical channel for client acquisition though performance metrics from this relationship remain unspecified While the livestreaming ecommerce sector continues growing in China AEHL's financial results suggest that growth is coming at the expense of industry profitability Without successfully differentiating services in ways that command premium pricing the current strategy of volume over margins risks creating a larger but perpetually unprofitable enterprise The gross margin deterioration demonstrates the substantial challenges in this competitive landscape AEHL Second Half Revenue Increased by 100% Year-over-Year 37% as compared to $72.1 million for fiscal year 2023.Gross loss was $0.1 million as compared to gross profit of $7.5 million for fiscal 2023.Net loss was $10.6 million as compared to a net loss of $2.0 million for fiscal 2023; the net loss for fiscal 2023 included a $10.4 million gain on the sale of the Company’s ceramic tile business 65%; border-collapse:collapse ;">Contact Information: Antelope Enterprise Holdings LimitedPrecept Investor Relations LLCXiaoying Song, Chief Financial OfficerDavid Rudnick, Account ManagerEmail: info@aehltd.com Email: david.rudnick@preceptir.com Phone: +1 646-694-8538   -- FINANCIAL TABLES FOLLOW – 100%; border-collapse:collapse ;">        ANTELOPE ENTERPRISE HOLDINGS LIMITED AND SUBSIDIARIESCONSOLIDATED STATEMENTS OF FINANCIAL POSITION           As of December 31 100%; border-collapse:collapse ;">         ANTELOPE ENTERPRISE HOLDINGS LIMITED AND SUBSIDIARIESCONSOLIDATED STATEMENTS OF COMPREHENSIVE INCOME (LOSS)          YEARS  ENDED DECEMBER 31 100%; border-collapse:collapse ;">7%; width:7%; min-width:7%;;text-align: justify ; vertical-align: middle; vertical-align: top ; "> 2%; width:2%; min-width:2%;;text-align: left ; vertical-align: middle; vertical-align: top ; "> *91%; width:91%; min-width:91%;;text-align: justify ; vertical-align: middle; vertical-align: top ; ">Reflects the 1-for-40 reverse split effective on April 3 2025  **Earnings per share for basic and diluted weighted average shares outstanding from continuing operations are the same due to anti-dilutive feature resulting from the net loss from continuing operations for the year    100%; border-collapse:collapse ;">            ANTELOPE ENTERPRISE HOLDINGS LIMITED AND SUBSIDIARIESCONSOLIDATED STATEMENTS OF CASH FLOWS                Years Ended December 31 BEGINNING OF YEAR    538   615   4,375 EFFECT OF FOREIGN EXCHANGE RATE DIFFERENCES    (397)  (218)  (244)               CASH AND BANK BALANCES END OF YEAR   $1,047  $538  $615                 The accompanying notes in the Company’s Form 20-F for the year 2024 as filed with the SEC are an integral part of these consolidated financial statements Already have an account? Since that moment, the Altyn Dala Conservation Initiative has successfully rehabilitated the saiga (Saiga tatarica) from a population of roughly 30,000 to nearly 4 million For this monumental effort, it was awarded the 2024 Earthshot Prize in the “protect & restore nature” category launched by David Attenborough and Britain’s Prince William also provides a grant of 1 million pounds ($1.32 million) to each winner Joining the podcast to discuss this achievement is Vera Voronova, executive director of the Association for the Conservation Biodiversity of Kazakhstan Voronova details the cultural and technological methods used to bring the saiga back from the brink and to help restore this massive grassland ecosystem the saiga would be always like the flagship and the priority species because we did have this emergency case to recover saiga,” she says “But the whole … picture of restoring the [steppe] was always behind this Voronova emphasizes the importance of local community participation in this effort pointing to the role of local landowners residing in ecological corridors between protected areas and education programs on the value of Kazakh wildlife for children especially “One of the recent book[s] that we published was about specifically the steppe animals I grew up knowing a lot about African animals and very little about what kind of animals live in my country,” Voronova says “And this is exactly [what] we want to change to know more about nature they live close to.” Banner Image: Saiga herd during a calving period Image by Albert Salemgareyev and courtesy of the Association for the Conservation Biodiversity of Kazakhstan/Vera Voronova Mike DiGirolamo is a host & associate producer for Mongabay based in Sydney. grew up knowing a lot about African animals and very much little about what kind of animals lives in my country we want to change altitude of the people to know more about nature Mike DiGirolamo: Welcome to the Mongabay Newscast Bring you weekly conversations with experts working on the front lines of conservation shining a light on some of the most pressing issues facing our planet Today on the newscast we speak with Vera Anova the Executive Director of the Association for the Conservation Biodiversity of Kazakhstan Together with a team of NGO Partners and the government of Kazakhstan the group came together in 2006 under the Altyn Dala Conservation Initiative to restore the Kazakh step ecosystem and rehabilitate the previously dwindling population of Saiga Antelope This massive grassland ecosystem is more than three times the size of the United Kingdom once numbering only in the tens of thousands Altyn Dala was awarded the 2024 Earth Shot Prize in the protect and restore nature category The Earth Shot Prize was launched by David Attenborough and the UK’s Prince William each winner is awarded a grant of 1 million pounds to continue their work Voronova details the painstaking effort by the initiative which used a combination of protected areas and monitoring and local knowledge to rehabilitate the step over the past two decades she explains the challenges encountered along the way What species the team is working on helping rehabilitate next It’s an impressive and inspiring look at what can be accomplished when civil society and local communities unite to restore nature the benefit of all Mike: So congratulations on your Earth Shot prize Can you just give us an overview of what this prize was for and and why did Alton Dela why was it awarded this prize I think everyone is still on their wave of their like be happy and be excited about us as a partnership winning a Price and we’re still receiving a lot of messages congratulation it’s really great that our initiative because of this price start to be recognized globally because this price is the sign of the great efforts from the last two decades of the so many people around our partnership who has been contributed firstly for the saiga recovery in Kazakhstan from just 30,000 animals to almost four millions this year it’s bring a lot of recovery and a lot of benefits to the whole steppe ecosystem I’ve had the pleasure of looking at this story and it’s really remarkable what your team has done When did you get involved with helping to rehabilitate the saiga antelope so this has been started in early in 2004 when the government start to bring on the round tables To say that we have a very critical situation with the Saiga antelope and Kazakhstan because of the illegal poaching and illegal trade of their horns it was the main reason of the decline of the saiga antelope And the rest was a few discussions and result of them in 2005 actually There is Altyn Dala conservation initiative was framed My organization CBK is a National Civil Society Organization and two other international organizations are the Pharmacological Society and the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds The Fauna & Flora join our initiative in 2011 this is initiative of the five partners where the government play the key role and push forward Specifically strengthening of the law enforcement and anti potion activities and the creation of the protected areas and where the civil society from the other side provide data gathering and complete monitoring and gathering the data Provide evidence specifically to develop visibility study for those protected areas to be established or expansion and also provide data that would help rangers to understand the migration roads of the saiga Program that we did since 2009 by satellite tagging of the saiga So understanding the migration and understanding the key sites really helped a lot to reinforce and to strengthen protection of the animals And this was a huge program about the illegal trading Also led by Fauna & Flora and us with the government to work with the border service and custom service on the number of the activities prepare the group of the sniffer dogs in the country but maybe most important there is a program in those remote schools with the kids and the families who lives close to saiga to really bring more knowledge and understanding about how the nature is important why saiga should be valued by local communities and So those different I gave a very short description about this different combination of the skills and the efforts that all partners gave to the initiative Mike: And we’ll get a little bit more into how you got there with the results First I want to talk about the golden steppe Because it’s quite a remarkable and unique landscape I myself didn’t realize how large it was for those of our audience who might not be familiar can you tell them about the golden steppe and what makes it so unique It’s the ninth biggest country in the world and 41% of our territories are covered in by the grasslands but majority would be covered by the grasslands and the area is still very Large area of the native untouchable glassland and some people are familiar that this was a big agriculture campaign during the Soviet Union major piece of lands of the post Soviet Union countries And of course there are many lands in Kazakhstan war recovery to this But there are still a big part of this landscape uh And these are the central part of the Kazak grasslands but ocean of grass when you can drive for a day or two days and you don’t see like people you don’t see even power lines in the proper roads and like only wildlife and Sometimes also people think that it’s very flat landscape which is play a crucial role for the wildlife to resist Could you summarize for us what are the major threats to the steppe Vera: Actually steppe itself exists on our planet at this just because two important natural processes is the fires and the grazing and the like million years ago it would be that like wild animals provide this grazing balance for the grassland ecosystem this day when we don’t have enough wild animals and when the Kazak people they also lost their culture of the nomadic livestock breeding when they change the pasture we have a huge issue of when the steppe doesn’t have enough grazing pressure And there are a lot of biomass creation in the steppe because nobody eat this grass and the dry biomass provide a lot of fires this was a very good publication made to my colleagues with the the colleagues from the German universities when they have did analysis to see how much the number of the livestock was decreasing after uh And this was the economical drop off in the country and the scale of the forest would be increase on the same time bit positive and that’s why is it important to do the both things to recover population of the wild animals where it’s possible it this part of the steppe which is still wild and there are no people And where we do have a people and we do have livestock to bring back some sustainable approaches sell to bring back actually because they did exist in in this land before and people used this and we just need to back to the Mike: And so since you’ve rehabilitated the saiga to be Vera: Actually this is one of the biggest challenge for us because we still work on the huge scale and even we try to bring a lot of modern technologies to help us monitor saiga migration It’s still a large landscape and sometimes it’s difficult to to do like proper research assessment specifically we would very much keen to see how much like biomass or the carbon has been changed within the soil of this landscape because of this saiga to the positive and benefit contribution to the steppe But we don’t have figures to provide the evidence for this definitely we observed that in the some area we do have a stable population which very much affects on the small mammals living on the ground and do small mammals Very much related to the grazers because they like to live in the area with the short grass So this is the like whole ecosystem and the pieces of this as ecosystem effect to each other Mike: So you mentioned that data collection is a bit of a challenge there Are there any specific technologies that you’re looking into perhaps using to to help you overcome that hurdle Vera: So there I already mentioned the satellite tagging we also use satellite tagging to understand migration of the birds Specifically we do satellite tagging of the steppe eagle and the sociable lapwing one of the flagship species of the grass system in Kazakhstan we have been working with the government and the protected areas to establish monitoring and patrolling system how Rangers to collect information quickly and you don’t need to have an internet connection and you can upload your data quickly to the computer and soft itself help analyze this data also quickly to understand what would be more efficient way to do patrolling We also applied to use as many other conservationist group It helped to understand and identifying some kind of biodiversity leaves across the huge area We do use the drones to help us also to monitor the landscape we also like everyone trying to think about how we can use artificial intelligence to help us To make counts of the animals by using this picture from the drones or satellite images because the currently the saiga population we have free populations across the HU country We do have annual aerial survey funded by the government so it’s paid by the government to do annual survey And we are looking for the alternative solutions to use in the future but for other wild that lives in the country Another opportunity that we are looking for but the has a action around the world company who provides methodology for the rapid biodiversity assessments When you instruct DNA from the water and you can do a quick assessment about the biodiversity of the different kind of water resources Mike (note): Vera is referring to a technology called EDNA or environmental DNA It’s a way to determine whether a species is present in a given area by sampling soil or water Vera: And we did already the piloting of this methodology And we see this as one more opportunity for us to do the research for the biodiversity in the water in the future listeners and thank you for tuning into the Monka Bay newscast Mongabay is a nonprofit newsroom that relies on the efforts Vera: So I think you are right that that I think this is exactly that we talk about just to understand what was their connection between the people and the wildlife in the previous year like this kind of information are very much valuable now we did some research and the reports on this valuable on the combine livelihoods can be applied in the ecological corridors those psychological corridors that are connected to straight protected areas and this is exactly how we’re trying to adopt and assess how we can use kind of approaches specifically for example in this area and in Kazakh Stan total of four areas like this psychological corridors and where there uh join action plan between land owners and state protected areas and like civil society Cooper operates in these areas can be as a as approach you mentioned in another interview you gave that you know it’s noticing impacts on wildlife even when mitigation measures are implemented You used a railway as an example where animals were not using the wildlife crossing but what are the lessons that conservationists and the government are learning from these projects I’m hope that those cases really help to understand the one important moment that that this should be a proper assessment on the very early stage of the planning because behavior of the animals can be very much difficult Different not only from the species to species we have a repopulation of the saiga in Kazakhstan they also very much effects and their behavior will be very much linked on the size of their group they are more afraid about any kind of movements or the barriers And specifically for for the cross points like that it’s very much important because those facilities are very much expensive and to build anything like this you need to carefully assess the location because the another point they would not use very specific migration roads They use like a very broad I would say migration corridors that’s why we communicate a lot about that Mike: You have mentioned that you’re you’re also working on restoring wild horse populations on the steppe these wild horses and where you are along in that journey and the saiga would be always like the flagship and the priority species because we did have this emergency the picture of the restoring the host that was always behind this and will be now a long term strategy and even the medium term To enable to do some legislation changes in Kazakhstan because they’re the wild horses They’ve been extinct in Kazakhstan long time ago and they would be not even referenced to the official list of their threatened species So this was a award has been done to include them to the official list of their And we were very much lucky that last year the government of Kazakhstan jointly with the Czech partners They’ve assigned the MU where the Prague Zoo committed to bring around 45 horses during next five years with their with the only resources where the Kaza is committed to Accommodate those horses and cover the oil expenses on the ground for the adaptation and fuse fuse monitoring to be released we do have already the success story from the Mongolia where there is a wild sustainable population of the horses exist So we are also learning from the experience and also we are learning from own experience on the work and with the translocation of the wild thetic ass And because we did work already before horses for these animals we already have some experience on their introduction now in the central of Kazakhstan and the steppe and a big group now in Enclosure during the adaptation time Will will be released this year So the first group of the horses arrived last year Mike: Something else I heard you mention is that your organization is looking at a way to mitigate the the negative impacts of agriculture on biodiversity Vera: This actually coming back to what we already discussed about the What would be the methodology would be approach of the livestock breeding because the currently the livestock breeding would be allocated around villages is bringing too much pressure around the villages and degradation of the land And there is another type of degradation of the landscape on the remote area where there’s no any kind of grazers even the live tor to be grazed this steppe but another type of the degradation of the land there were some research has been done to understand how it works How does the fire regimes degrading regimes affect healthy grass ecosystem how the agriculture expansion affect population of the small mammals because they would be a crucial And this was a also additional research to see they become to be like the main food base for the birth of prey that’s why it was important also to understand how And we also need to observe about like how agriculture expansion affect population of the sum of the steppe broad Which logically would be nest on the ground because there are no trees and the birds would be laid their eggs on the ground like the sociable lapwing and the steppe eagle And we’ve been did this research specifically on the sociable lapwing because this would be the the expansion of the croplands affect survival of the nest And we did have some also work with the local farmers to communicate and the rise awareness about how they can bring the new technologies of the land To not negatively affect the bird’s nesting And actually what we found there are already a lot of farmers they do use this form of technologies like when they would cultivate land at a very early stage and when there is the nesting season is started they would not come back with the equipment on the land and not would be damaged nest So this is already works in some parts of our country Mike: Has been the response that you have received from either the people you’re working with on or the people you interact with in Kazakhstan What has been the response to the success of this initiative that Vera: I think that generally public in Kazakhstan become to be more interested and more any kind of environmental topic and the news in Kazakhstan I think that there were a lot of publication inside the country and we’ve seen so many positive comments about the people feel so proud about the Kazakhstan and the huge success of the saiga recovery And I think specifically among the young population because they always remember that saiga is their threatened species and we they would still remember the time saiga would be hunted A legal hunt for the meat that you can buy at the market So they were remembered that time and they remembered the time that saiga threatened they don’t know this time of the saiga being used for meat They only know the saiga is the iconic species it’s very much a special to see the recovery of those animals and see that this is efforts of the government and the civil society organization have been recognized on the such high global level is there anything else that you would like people to know either about the work you’re doing or the golden steppe in Kazakhstan that we haven’t talked about already Vera: I am really glad that we speak even for the time And because we just speak about the public and the people and I want to just to come back and to highlight again that how much we feel important to bring the knowledge and rise awareness among the public in the cities but also the people who lives in the rural areas And we put a lot of effort to produce educational materials on the local Kazakh language for the kids One of the recent book that we published was about specifically the steppe animals Mike (note): If you want to read more about the Alton De La Conservation Initiative if you’re enjoying the Mongabay newscast or any of our podcast content and industry for over 15 years “Minecraft” is known for being a 3D sandbox game where players generate their unique block world to explore different biomes craft simple items or build whatever their heart desires It continued to expand with constant updates year-round Jack Black brings his explosive energy to the big screens after starring in two great animated films Movie” in 2023 and “Kung Fu Panda 4” in 2024 the default character and face of “Minecraft,” and he brings the role to life Steve can be described as generic because there is no personality or story to be told with him “A Minecraft Movie” expands itself into the real world with other characters being the focus with their own side stories The main goal of the four-person crew is to get back home with the help of Steve A lot of unique characters and items only made for the movie allowed the story to fill in many questions about how the worlds are connected or who would be the main antagonist it never strayed away from pleasing “Minecraft” fans The details of the game’s many features and acknowledging the YouTubers who helped popularize it is nothing short of incredible from the film crew YouTuber “Mumbo Jumbo” uploaded a video to reveal behind-the-scenes work in helping the film with many of the builds featured on screen Even though a story had to be crafted for the film it was not well received by most fans of the franchise The main story of getting back home kept being sidetracked at times by each of the other characters’ problems The characters Natalie and Henry had their family issues which could have been erased without affecting the entire plot the cheesy jokes and one-liners made the film look a bit ridiculous at times in saying “Steve’s Lava Chicken” song was pretty catchy the “Chicken Jockey” joke got way out of control with many audiences causing commotion in various theaters “A Minecraft Movie” is one of the few video game movie adaptations to be released within the last five years It tries to be different while being respectful to the video game but I don’t feel it hits the mark in creating something spectacular It is still an enjoyable experience that anyone can get a laugh from and many details transferred over from the game cannot be undermined When I compare it with films such as “The Super Mario Bros Movie” or the “Sonic the Hedgehog” trilogy maybe lower your expectations going into this film this does feel like a family movie that would be enjoyable to watch this spring I rate “A Minecraft Movie” a three out of five Loper stars Your donation will support record visitation in the past four years, prompting park managers to build a new visitor center to help handle the growing crowds we hit over a million visitors and we’re very excited about that,” Doranne Pittz and it does make it a challenge from time to time 2024 marks only the third time the park has surpassed a million visitors with visitation nearly doubling in the past five years The new visitor center is set to open early next year It will be nearly five times the size of the current one and will feature a large education theater “The reason why we’re doing it is because we’ve seen such an increase and an interest in learning more about the island but the Great Salt Lake,” Pittz explained Visitors to the park in the coming months will find a temporary visitor center next to the park headquarters park managers advise bringing your own water as it will not be available on the island during this phase of construction “We hope to have the water back on in a few months but we want our visitors to be prepared,” said Pittz Plenty of people were still visiting the park on Thursday so we’re trying to see as many as we can this year,” she said Antelope Island is one of the first stops for them It is barren but you can find beauty in barren,” said Tom Sant “I was able to hear a meadowlark.” The Sant family is already planning their next visit “We bought a trailer and would like to bring it and spend a couple of nights,” Tom Sant said Winter offers a unique opportunity to experience the island with fewer visitors but even with the increased visitation during the busy season Pittz said there is still a certain magic to the island where you can still feel like you are getting away from it all “Antelope Island truly is just a solace away from home,” Pittz said tournament for the first time since 2015 “I love Marc (Bauer) and I appreciate him and I thank him for not firing me after going 0-15-3 my first year,” Breton said “I definitely thought I was not going to have a job after one season and not because of (the players) After letting Chloe Roberts go after the 2021 season but then the position reopened after Piper abruptly resigned due to family health issues Piper had a 261-146-38 record in 23 seasons at East Texas A&M when he was hired at UNK and returned for one more year at his former school before coaching at the high school level The switch at coach for UNK was a big change for the players “Neil had (a) pretty lengthy background and just had a lot of great accomplishments with the last college he was at,” said Dolcie Hanlon who this is his first coaching position at a D-II.” Breton had lived in West Virginia for 14 years and was ready to experience a new part of the country “I got one interview at first and it was here at UNK I didn’t get the job because I didn’t have head coaching experience.” Breton was quickly hired as the head coach at a school in West Virginia He gave his two-week notice and packed up to move to Kearney “If you do the right thing and the right work and the right ethic the chance will present itself,” Breton said I also have to understand that as a privilege and a luck that I was given this and that’s why I also view it as such I realize that I am very lucky to be in this position.” After securing a spot in the conference tournament Breton began negotiating a new contract as his current one was set to expire this spring the focus of the negotiation was more on the future of the program than on his salary Breton has gone to work building the program “We’re in that position where it’s like we’ve finally opened the door not just to be a team in the conference that people need to be worried about but a team that could potentially compete to be a top four team a team that could compete for a conference championship A team that could compete for the national tournament like these are all conversations that haven’t been had here in nine to 10 years.” With the program now reaching the potential Breton thought the team could reach at the start “I said no to some offers that people would kind of be shocked that I said no to because I have an intention to make this the most successful program that it’s been before I ever leave here and we’re pretty close,” Breton said Organize Registered nurses at Antelope Valley Medical Center (AVMC) in Lancaster, California, will the Kenyan government has launched an ambitious effort to gather the animals from zoos and conservancies worldwide to restore the species in the wild 17 bongos were recently repatriated from Florida the forest antelopes were flown from the Rare Species Conservatory Foundation in Florida to the Marania and Mucheene sanctuary a breeding center for mountain bongos (Tragelaphus eurycerus isaaci) they will be quarantined and slowly reintegrated into their natural ecosystem Kenya began repatriating mountain bongos from the U.S with an in situ captive breeding program at the Mount Kenya Game Ranch The initiative has developed several wild-population recovery strategies and in 2004 successfully repatriated the first group of 25 bongos to the Mount Kenya Wildlife Conservancy “We now have 98 individuals that we are slowly integrating into the natural environment; we are happy that they are now reproducing as we have young ones among them,” Kenya Wildlife Service director-general Erastus Kanga said in a press briefing Kenya is home to roughly 100 mountain bongos; that’s a drop from roughly 700 in the 1960s and 1970s The 17 bongos from Florida will inject much-needed genetic diversity for the species currently listed as critically endangered on the IUCN Red List “We are excited that they have been brought back to us We are bringing back the biodiversity of a species that was extremely endangered … We are looking at creating jobs for the local communities in the tourism sector,” Kanga said said the country has a national action plan to continue growing the bongo population “Mountain bongos are a wildlife treasure among our animals; they are symbol of Kenya’s rich biodiversity This moment is significant in our efforts to conserve and restore one of the world’s most endangered species,” Miano said in a press briefing Local authorities say the repatriation of bongos will also help restore ecosystems promoting biodiversity and ensuring the stability of forest habitats,” Paul Udoto Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) assistant director “By reintroducing these bongos into their former ranges we are taking a crucial step toward restoring ecological balance and enhancing the resilience of these forests.” The project has also involved the local community which Udoto says is key for long-term success “This fosters a sense of ownership and responsibility encouraging sustainable practices that protect both wildlife and livelihoods,” Udoto said Kenya is expecting another batch of mountain bongos from Europe in the next three months Banner image: The Big Game Drawing by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife Only 137 pronghorn hunting tags were offered by the CDFW in 2024 making legally hunting for a pronghorn antelope a highly coveted hunting opportunity Which is why many are upset over the paltry fine of $3,000 issued to a man who circumvented the drawing and illegally shot a pronghorn antelope Davis reached a settlement agreement at his arraignment on Jan 30; he pleaded no-contest to violating California Fish and Game Code Section 2016 involving the illegal take of the pronghorn antelope on private property “The terms of the settlement resulted in a one-year summary probation term for Davis; the loss of hunting privileges while on probation; the forfeiture of the pronghorn’s meat; the requirement to complete a hunter education course; and payment of $3,000 in restitution,” the press release stated Though the CDFW doesn’t determine fines, commenters on its Facebook post were nevertheless incensed about this poacher's penalty At least lifetime hunting ban in the State of California or higher fine number like $10,000 What kind of message are you sending to future poachers? “Poachers are poachers because they don’t follow laws Also on FTW Outdoors: Hunters who didn’t want to stop shooting get ‘sad slap on the wrist’ “$3,000 dollars and loss of hunting rights for a year this may become more common since it took my dad 20 years to draw a tag to hunt public land This guy got away with hunting private land and one of California's most difficult lottery draws for $3,000.” Let's get some revenue in this state by going after poachers.” “I think we can all agree that the penalty should be stiffer But the adjudication is not the decision of CDFW Law Enforcement A judge makes this decision based on guidelines.” Most would agree that stiffer penalties are needed for a greater deterrent And most would agree that the work of the CDFW was commendable “We have zero tolerance for poaching and those who would cheat the system and undermine the opportunities Californians have to legally hunt pronghorn antelope in this state,” said CDFW Chief of Law Enforcement Nathanial Arnold mistaken for a deer or even a small bear blending effortlessly with the changing landscape.  expressive eyes and delicate cloven hooves hint at a mix of strength and gentleness—traits well-suited to their rugged mountain environment matching their resilience to Japan’s varied climate.  and witch-hazel make up their herbivorous palate which they efficiently process through a specialized This ability to adapt their diet to available resources makes them a resilient species in Japan’s often harsh and fluctuating seasons Japanese serows can leap gracefully between steep mountain ledges displaying agility and sure-footedness unique to these solitary mountain dwellers Japanese serows play a vital role in maintaining forest ecosystems by controlling vegetation through their browsing habits promoting a diverse understory that supports a variety of plants and animals.  This natural pruning not only fosters biodiversity but also enhances soil quality by redistributing nutrients and encouraging regeneration Japanese serows contribute to the balance and health of their mountainous habitats ensuring a thriving environment for other species sweet-sour scent produced by glands near their eyes While encounters with other serows are uncommon they are not entirely devoid of social structure.  Some serows form pairs or small family groups but each maintains its own distinct territory they navigate their mountain homes with a grace that has inspired Japanese culture the Japanese serow adapts its diet with the seasons Mating season arrives in the colder months with elaborate rituals that mirror those of other mountain dwellers The young serow stays close to its mother for up to two years learning the rhythms and boundaries of life in the mountains With a lifespan that can reach 20–25 years serows pass on survival skills across generations continuing their presence as long-term inhabitants of Japan's mountain ecosystems An entry on the serow in the 1712 encyclopaedia Wakan Sansai Zue is more than an animal—it’s a symbol of the nation’s wild heritage Ancient texts from the Heian period mention the serow in reference to its powerful almost mystical presence in the mountains.  from its meat and waterproof hide to its horns Revered as a “living national treasure,” it has become an icon of Japan’s natural world and an embodiment of the country's ancestral bond with its wilderness the serow’s future is challenged by human encroachment and agricultural expansion As forested areas are cleared for timber and farming serows find themselves pushed from their natural habitats into less hospitable areas have led to controlled culling outside of conservation zones the Japanese serow’s bushy coat and curved horns help it blend seamlessly into its rugged the Japanese serow is classified as Least Concern by the IUCN yet it relies on continuous conservation efforts for its survival Designated conservation areas across Japan aim to protect this iconic species from habitat loss and human-wildlife conflict.  Local communities and conservationists collaborate to manage their population sustainably recognizing the serow as a unique symbol of Japan’s wildlife and an essential part of the country’s ecological heritage Through conservation and mindful ecotourism the serow remains a symbol of resilience and harmony within You can apply online here Below you can find important information and an overview of Arizona’s rules/regulations An interactive boundary line map is available on our State Profile you can find even more information on applying in Arizona You can also view the Arizona Elk Profile and Arizona Antelope Profile to access historical and statistical data to help you locate trophy units To apply, visit the Arizona draw page here and login to your AZGFD portal account If you have not created a portal you will need to take the necessary steps to do so Make sure to review your bonus point totals prior to researching hunts to apply for Check your points to ensure that you have the proper number of points Take care of it well in advance of the application deadline Applicants must possess a valid Arizona hunting license to apply for a hunting tag That license must be valid on the last day of the application period (Feb Check your AZGFD portal account to make sure yours is up to date Note: The cost of the permit will only be charged if you are successful in the draw AZGFD will charge the card used when you applied They will move past your application to the next applicant in the queue Make sure the card you use is current and has the room to accommodate the permit(s) you applied for Arizona’s draw system works on a modified bonus point system a portion of the permits are allocated to the applicants with the most bonus points who apply for any given hunt and the rest are randomly allocated with bonus points giving you better odds of drawing Applicants obtain a bonus point each time they apply and are unsuccessful in the draw Applicants can apply for “point only” as their first choice if they do not want to apply for hunts but we only advise to do that if an applicant cannot afford the time or the cost of the permit if they were to draw it Remember that Arizona offers a portion of the permits in a random draw and you will automatically get a bonus point if you are unsuccessful in the draw It makes good sense to apply for hunts and not just a bonus point Bonus points will be purged if you successfully draw a permit with any of your choices Bonus points will also be purged if an applicant has failed to apply in the draw for five consecutive years There are two other ways an applicant can gain an additional bonus point If an applicant has applied for five consecutive years and has completed the hunter’s education course they could go into a draw with two points already even if they drew a permit the previous year they refer to stages of the draw as “passes.” Bonus point permits (permits guaranteed to applicants who apply with the most points) are awarded in the first pass of the draw which is often referred to as the bonus pass or first pass The second pass is when random permits are awarded the number of bonus points you apply with are still taken into consideration This means that your odds of drawing get better in the random draw with every bonus point you acquire An applicant with no points still has a chance in the random draw but your odds increase with each bonus point you gain Permits are awarded through a hybrid draw system: bonus point draw and a subsequent random draw (see draw system details below for more information) 20% of the permits for any given hunt will be awarded to the applicants who apply with the most bonus points up to 5% of those bonus pass permits can be awarded to nonresidents the system grants an applicant one random number for each bonus point that has been accumulated going into the drawing for that species Each bonus point random number is in addition to the current application random number entry itself someone with six bonus points would have seven random numbers generated for their application The lowest generated number becomes the new application number they start with the applicant who has the lowest application number and allocate them a permit and move up in ascending order until all permits are allocated Remember that nonresidents can draw up to 5% of the permits in the random pass; however you need to know this: bonus points increase your odds of drawing a permit but applicants who apply for the first time in this draw with no points still have a chance to draw a permit Arizona offers a safeguard for applicants who draw a permit and may want to return it in order to have their points restored The fee is $10 per species and can be purchased at the same time you apply If you purchased PointGuard for a permit you drew and decided to return it it must be done at least one day prior to opening day You’ll also need to complete the surrender application form you will have your bonus points restored plus one for that year You will forfeit the permit and application fees be aware that PointGuard can only be used one time per species meaning you cannot draw a permit and return it year after year (while retaining your points) until you are ready to hunt For applicants who apply for multiple species in Arizona and plan to continue to apply an applicant will have the opportunity to surrender a tag and have their bonus points reinstated for all eligible big game species for three consecutive draw cycles from the date of purchase Applicants must purchase this protection at the time they apply Applicants can apply for up to five hunt choices on their application Only your first and second choice are considered before moving on to the next application fourth and fifth choice will only be considered if there are leftover permits Be aware that if you draw any of your choices we advise applicants to only include first and second choices unless they are willing to burn points on the types of hunts that make it to the leftover list Arizona will allow up to four individuals to apply on a group application for elk and antelope The group application is treated as one application where A group application will have their bonus points averaged and rounded to the nearest whole number (.5 and up would round up to the nearest whole number If there are not enough permits to meet the number of applicants on a group application the application has no chance of being successful Arizona will not over-allocate the permit quota to accommodate a group application Youth can apply for and hunt big game in Arizona at 10 years old They must have completed a hunter’s education course and purchased an Arizona hunting license That license is only $5 for youth (10 to 17) We highly recommend that you begin to apply and build points for your youth beginning at age 10 Arizona does offer some “youth only” elk permits we recommend applying for antlered permits and building points for your kids There are better opportunities to hunt cow elk in other states Arizona has a unique program that will allow a parent grandparent or legal guardian to transfer a permit they have drawn to their youth (10 to 17) The youth must have a valid hunting license and completed hunter’s education if they are younger than 14 Arizona is still one of the top three states to apply for elk in the west but as you look down through the tables included below you will see that there are many hunts that can be drawn within the 7-12 point range There are a few hunts that can be guaranteed with fewer points but those are mostly late season archery hunts that can be challenging but with good bulls being harvested in almost every unit of the state I think Arizona is a must apply elk state Going into 2025 Arizona is issuing more late season rifle permits than they have in the past with an increase of 220 tags spread out among various units The increase in tags is likely to take a toll on the upper caliber of trophy bulls but for those that have been building points for years it may be disappointing The best units in the state are still going to be units 9 That’s due to the fact that the state manages those units for a higher bull to cow ratio and generally offers far fewer permits As you look through the hunt odds you will see that the odds for those areas reflect that If you are truly looking for the best of the best one of those areas should be on your application Another factor that should be noted in regard to Arizona elk hunting is the amount in snow and rain that it’s received this fall and winter antler growth and herd health is more closely tied to winter moisture than the more northern states It has been very warm and dry this winter and historically past years with similar amounts of moisture have yielded poor antler growth I’d anticipate that this is unlikely to be a good growth year for Arizona bulls This may be less critical for most applicants but for those with a lot of bonus points or hunters really hoping to hunt trophy caliber bulls My personal take is that if you have built up points waiting for the chance to hunt the giant bulls that Arizona is known for you may want to wait for a better moisture year They also offer some muzzleloader seasons in several units No matter what weapon you want to hunt with they likely have a tag you would be interested in applying for The best hunts are going to be the early archery and early rifle/muzzleloader seasons Those hunts allow the lucky tag holders to pursue bugling bulls during the rut The late rifle hunts offer far more tags resulting in increased hunting pressure I’ve talked with many hunters in the past few years who have all noted that the hunting pressure on the late hunts was far greater than they had anticipated and that it did negatively impact the quality of the hunt although perceived hunting pressure is less because hunters are not hearing the rifle shots and generally seeing as many other hunters in the field Other potential deterrents to some hunters is that the bulls have broken antlers later in the season and many of the upper tier trophy bulls have been killed during early season hunts and the best bulls have mostly pulled away from the cow/calf herds and are seeking refuge post rut in some of the most remote The up side for late season hunts is that the odds of drawing are much better I think late season hunts are absolutely worth researching and applying for as long as applicants are aware that those hunts are not on par with the early season hunts in the best units but applicants should consider their objectives and manage their expectations accordingly Arizona is still a great elk state and every year there will be world class bulls killed but the reality is that with current management and the lack of moisture going into 2025 it’s going to be a down year in terms of the quality of bulls but do your homework and apply accordingly Use the detailed Draw Odds view to look at draw trends and see where you can expect to draw in the maximum points pool Given the fact that a portion of Arizona’s permits are offered to applicants with the most bonus points point creep is an issue just like it is in several states in the West many hunts are jumping approximately one point per year and a few jumped more than one bonus point This means that if applicants are looking at the odds at their current point level You should consider hunts that show 100% odds at one to three points less than you currently have You should also look at the detailed draw odds pages for the hunts you are considering to further evaluate your odds of drawing this year Below we will break down some of the best hunt options for applicants at a variety of point levels The best hidden gems for Arizona elk are the late archery hunts Understand that the late archery hunts can be extremely difficult spot and stalk hunts in remote terrain that is heavily vegetated; however With the addition of late rifle tags in 2025 the late rifle hunts are also worth considering and could yield some hidden gems in 2025 unit 22 had two late archery hunts (north and south) that could have been drawn with 4 points last year Unit 8 late archery and 6B late archery had 28% and 27% odds at 5 points Those are tough hunts with typically low harvest success but for low point holders that are die-hard bowhunters they might be worth a look but generally speaking the late hunts have much better random odds than to the early rifle seasons Arizona pronghorn populations are struggling and although the last two years of moisture has helped it still has far fewer antelope than game and fish and hunters would like to see Arizona has never really been known for robust populations but what they have offered historically is the opportunity to hunt trophy caliber bucks while there will no doubt be a few 80”+ bucks killed this coming fall the reality is that most hunters will be disappointed in the hunt when compared to the number of points it might require to draw Most hunters will harvest average bucks and they will not see the number of bucks they might expect especially when compared to some of the other more northerly states the odds of drawing an antelope permit in Arizona are horrendous to say the least is applying for antelope in Arizona even worth it I believe that it’s likely worth applying for the nominal $15 application fee as long as you are buying the hunting license required to apply in order to apply for other species like elk my advice would be to save the cost of applying and put that into other applications or a land owners tag in another state For those that do decide to spend the $15 application fee I would suggest you think about what kind of hunt you would be satisfied with before applying The best units for trophy caliber bucks are 5B Almost every other unit in the state is going to offer hunters the chance at a mid 70’s buck There is and will always be the possibility of an 80”+ buck popping up other units but probably not without intense scouting efforts My advice would be to apply for one of the best units listed above if you are only interested in quality the other units in the state will offer that The archery hunts are challenging but bowhunters do get the first crack and good rut dates The muzzleloader and rifle hunts are also early in the year typically early Sept and should offer good rut dates The take home message for Arizona antelope; for the $15 application fee it may be worth it but do not expect to draw and if you do draw a permit Plan to scout and hunt hard and have the opportunity to take an average buck in most units of the state 2025 maximum resident bonus points for antelope: 34 Do not expect to draw an antelope permit in Arizona this year or but that is the current state of antelope hunting there The only reasons that someone should apply for antelope in Arizona is if they are already buying the hunting license to apply for the other species or they have been building points for a couple decades it’s very hard to make a case for applying For the extra $15 fee it may be worth it to you to apply but maintain reasonable expectations if you do apply The Arizona Game and Fish Department (AZGFD) requires applicants to have a Customer ID to apply in the draw New applicants can set up an account on their website The Customer ID Retrieval Tool can be accessed at www.azgfd.gov/draw during the draw application process to look up the number Applicants must have a valid Arizona hunting license to apply for a permit Your hunting license must be valid on the application deadline Applicants should keep their debit/credit card payment information current If your payment is declined at the time of the draw AZGFD will no longer offer traditional paper licenses sold through licensed dealers Arizona offers an online hunter’s education course one lifetime bonus point for each species will be added to your account This is a great way to increase the number of bonus points you have and a must if you plan to keep up with other applicants You must be 18+ to complete the course and the cost is $300 for nonresidents and $150 for residents It may take two weeks to a month to have the extra point show up in your account Units 9 and 27 will have an early muzzleloader elk hunt but not an early rifle hunt in 2025 Units 1 and 6A will not have an early muzzleloader hunt in 2025 Units 7 East and 8 will both have early rifle elk hunts in 2025 Successful applicants will have permits mailed out by April 2 Payment must be made by VISA or Mastercard for online applications There is a $15 nonrefundable application fee per species for nonresidents No one under the age of 10 can hunt big game in Arizona Youth are eligible to apply for permits if they have completed hunter education and will be 10 at the start of the hunt If you need help looking up your Arizona bonus points, check out this article A loyalty bonus point is an additional bonus point that is awarded after having applied for any given species for five consecutive years This is a species-specific point and will not be taken away when you draw a tag It will be purged if you miss a year of applying and would restart the process Arizona hunter’s education course bonus point Arizona offers a permanent bonus point for each species if you complete their hunter’s education course you needed to attend and take this course in person in order to obtain the point You can take their hunter’s education course online Nonresidents will need to pay the $300 course fee and complete the instructional and test portion of the class You must be 18 years or older to take the class Approximately two weeks to 30 days after you have completed the course they will update your account with the extra bonus point This point is permanent and will never be purged This summer we are taking you onLifetime Adventures on The PLACE Come along as we visit
