here’s a quick progress check-in on anti-cheat We’ve been focusing on many iterative improvements across an array of efforts including internal cheat detection Our ongoing work against teaming has continued to have a positive impact on bad behaviour We’ve also ramped up efforts combating bot activity performed by automating certain devices and a decrease in nefarious bot activity should already be noticeable in your matches by the time you read this but their actions can still disrupt your time in the Outlands and we’re continuing to target actions against these players to ensure that every match is worthwhile There’ve also been a plethora of improvements that we’re looking to actively update ranging from bug/exploit fixes to hardening existing prevention measures; we hope to share more on these in the future we wanted to thank you for the feedback on our mid-season addition of Report Action Feedback Please continue to submit in-game reports as they do work both in identifying cheaters and the impact they’re having in your matches As part of our ongoing efforts to improve audio reliability we have implemented a system that will allow us to improve how we diagnose audio issues for our PC players We will now look out for common symptoms of audio issues (ex footstep audio events being dropped excessively) throughout your matches When we detect an abnormally large amount of these situations with in-game audio we will occasionally offer you the option of uploading a detailed report containing everything our audio engine did throughout the course of your match Since the scope of this diagnostic information is limited to our audio systems the uploaded data is completely anonymous; the recording is purely game related audio and does not contain voice chat nor any information that can be tracked back to you we’re tackling matchmaking quality through region population management and by increasing queue wait times for high-skilled lobbies Population management comes in the form of a system improvement that allows auto-merging of players into higher population regions to expand the pool of available players for closer skill matchmaking and at any time of day can vary quite a bit we are testing ways to get those players together without sacrificing too much latency The next two major changes this season focus on matchmaking quality in Ranked The first change is how players are reset each season: initial Rank and tier placement is based on the player’s tracked skill value and not how much RP they had at the end of the season This will group like-skilled players together Players new to Ranked will receive their initial placement based on their performance in Apex so far The second change is part of our seasonal tuning for matchmaking which this time around means asking our Platinum and Masters (including Predator) players to wait a bit longer while we try to find them opponents that are closer to their RP value but they are closer than they have been in the past Arenas returns at the start of the season to test your skill and cunning in a round-based 3v3 Deathmatch Experience the classic mode with the latest weapons and Legends Prepare a loadout at the start of each round fight your opponents in intense squad battles and learn your opponents’ weaknesses to prevail On May 20th prepare yourself for a refresh that puts the focus on firepower over heals getting around the maps in exciting new ways Be sure to come back half way through the season to check out our 1v1 variant—“Arenas: Duels.” Welcome back to Arenas Deadly limited-time cosmetics are ready for the taking as you progress through Death By Design from May 6 to June 24 Each item received counts towards bonus rewards that are automatically unlocked at milestones along the way Make the most of your time in the Outlands when you take on Launch challenges and earn two Death By Design packs alongside even more rewards All items will be available in Death By Design Packs†’ pool of items with each pack having an opportunity to unlock Pathfinder’s “Belva Bruisers” and the Legendary “Crested Vanguard” reactive for the G7 Scout Each Death By Design pack contains one collection item (no duplicates in packs) and two standard items Missed out on some of Apex's most iconic Reactive weapons We’re giving players another chance to grab them the Level 100 Battle Pass Reactive skins from Seasons 11 through 21 will be available in the Exotic Shop for exotic shards—including fan favorites for the R-99 We’re also expanding the Legend Locker to include some of your favorite Legend and Weapon skins from past seasons all the way through to Upheaval We’ll also let you know in the Locker if a skin you’re eyeing is also featured in a live offer elsewhere Unique Legend Select animations are always fun to spot ahead of a match We’re expanding Legend customization with a new “Animations” tab in the Legend Menu where you’ll be able to equip certain future Legend Select animations with any of those Legend’s skins Dev Note: We’re really pleased with Arsenals and are excited with how players have weaved them into their gameplay These adjustments are designed to smooth out the early game by providing a little more ammo without fully replacing the need to scavenge the area and increase their relevancy in the later stages of the game Dev Notes: Assault Legends have remained popular and powerful throughout Takeover There’s a lot of utility stacked on this class and the scan on shield crack specifically felt like a step too far in a world where Sparrow will be bringing in a powerful scan ability Dev Notes: We like rewarding Skirmishers for playing aggressively with health regen on knocks but found the extra Tac charge had uneven results It didn’t help some Legends and interfered with upgrades that provide extra charges for others we felt that this belongs better in the upgrade tree (like Pathfinder’s new Level 3 upgrade!) rather than in the class perks Set your targets on this new Legend with our dedicated dev blog here Dev Notes: We love that players are having fun with Ash and we want to tweak her balance without removing the parts of her kit that players are enjoying Predator’s Pursuit feels redundant now that she has her new dash passive and is another form of intel-gathering that competes with Sparrow Dev Note: The Devotion has been feeling a tad clunky and a bit too slow in this meta so we’ve taken a big swing at how it scales with attachments It now continues to live up to that late game monster fantasy it’s always had By embedding the turbocharger feature behind a fully decked out Devotion we’ve made its loot chase more exciting and rewarding than ever Dev Note: The EVA-8 has been a particularly strong secondary weapon recently but instead of just nerfing its damage we wanted to take this opportunity to realign with its identity as the fast auto-shotty We’ve re-worked its damage profile into rapid fire blasts with reduced damage Dev Note: We found the recent nerf to sniper limb damage to be a bit too punishing Landing those long range shots should feel rewarding so we’re bumping back up the limb damage to help snipers feel more consistent and useful A difficulty selector will be available to all players shortly after the release of S25 allowing players to test their skills against various levels of Apex Bots Access and adjust this setting during the match to update the Apex Bots difficulty level Dev Notes: Tight matchmaking is still a primary focus for the team The new way in which we assign starting tier and division is a step towards stabilizing the start of each Ranked season and ensuring that higher-skilled players have extremely limited access to lower-skilled lobbies A player’s skill and their RP value can be very misaligned and are moving more towards getting and keeping those values much closer Work will continue to address mid and late season lobby skill-mixing Play Apex Legends™ for free* now on PlayStation®4 Sign up for our newsletter today to receive the latest Apex Legends™ involving more than a dozen fire companies from Snyder The fire was first reported shortly after 7:00am The Kreamer Fire Department is the main volunteer company there the blaze quickly escalated and is currently reported as out of control Route 522 was closed between Kreamer and Middleburg Borough but motorists are advised of the changing conditions there Written by WKOK Staff People with isn't my favorite keyboard for anything outside of gaming This is an excellent 60% gaming keyboard for those who really want adjustable actuation (and don't mind a wire) SteelSeries' ultra-premium Apex Pro gaming keyboard family expands with the Mini a compact 60% board that still boasts a wide range of high-performance features This is one of the more intuitive 60% layouts on the market and the gaming experience is excellent — but other companies are getting a lot more competitive on pricing Excellent execution of the compact 60% layout Fantastic performance with a ton of customization features Good software to take advantage of those features Actual typing experience is average for the price Keyboards can get awfully tiny but sometimes you want the most compact form factor without sacrificing any performance or features That's where keyboards like the SteelSeries Apex Pro Mini (Gen 3) comes in a wired peripheral designed for the hardcore gamers who want to keep their desk as clean as possible the Apex Pro Mini is demure and understated but still boasts features like adjustable actuation but you're also paying a lot of money for a wired keyboard — and other companies are starting to offer very compelling alternatives Expert ReviewerMy job demands I have a keyboard that excels at typing and gaming one that I can customize to my needs and rely on to keep up through hours of work and play Any keyboard that graces my desk will be put to the test DisclaimerThis review was made possible thanks to a review sample provided by SteelSeries SteelSeries had no input nor saw the contents of this review prior to publication The SteelSeries Apex Pro line sits at the top of SteelSeries' keyboard offerings it'll only be available in black (at least for now) but you can buy it in a few language layouts The SteelSeries Apex Pro is also available in full-sized and tenkeyless (wired and wireless) variants SteelSeries OmniPoint 3.0 HyperMagnetic switches 293 x 103 x 40.3mm (11.53 x 4.02 x 1.59in) you'll find the SteelSeries Apex Pro Mini (Gen 3) gaming keyboard and a keycap removal tool (which can be stowed under the keyboard in a dedicated compartment) The SteelSeries Apex Pro Mini is a 60% keyboard meaning it sacrifices the tenkey numberpad and extra macro buttons and multimedia controls — all in the name of being as compact as possible This keyboard is indeed diminutive in every dimension A dedicated SteelSeries button highlights all the shortcut keys on the board but the Apex Pro Mini is responsive in everything it does SteelSeries' latest OmniPoint 3.0 switches enable even more features thanks to the Hall Effect magnet technology Since these switches can detect any input between 0.1mm and 4.0mm you can adjust their actuation and reset points enable features like Rapid Tap (which always prioritizes the last pressed key) Rapid Trigger (which recognizes a key input the moment you begin pressing) and dual-stage activations (different functions at different press depths) We've seen other keyboards with similar features either with analog optical switches or similar magnetic switches but SteelSeries has been in this space for a few years and its execution is among the more refined You never have to worry about losing your keycap removal tool.(Image credit: Windows Central | Zachary Boddy)No hot swappable switches and the unique icons on the default keycaps are useful to have.(Image credit: Windows Central | Zachary Boddy)Overall the Apex Pro Mini is an excellent peripheral for gaming thanks to its in-depth software customization options The SteelSeries GG Engine is a stable and intuitive software suite giving you easy access to all the settings and features you could need The possibilities are endless for building custom profiles assigning custom shortcuts and meta bindings and generally making this keyboard the ultimate control hub for your setup Even the per-key RGB lighting is lightning fast when highlighting shortcuts or reacting to on-screen content (when configured) The majority of the frame is matte plastic and SteelSeries has improved its keyboard construction with per-key pre-lubricated stabilizers and three separate sound-dampening layers Rubber feet keep the Apex Pro Mini well-grounded and there are two-stage stands if you want a more angled typing experience There's even a secret compartment on the bottom of the keyboard hiding the included keycap removal tool behind a silicon flap SteelSeries does offer alternative keycaps sets in other layouts and languages and you can always search for third-party solutions to further customize your keyboard the default double-shot PBT keycaps feel comfortable It's also worth remembering that SteelSeries' default keycaps are labeled with the various keyboard shortcuts specific to the Apex Pro Mini's 60% layout so keep that in mind if you plan to swap these keycaps out There's not much to say about connectivity or battery life but the detachable USB Type-C cable is high quality and securely attaches to the Apex Pro Mini I'll put aside my personal dislike of 60% keyboards (you're just giving up too many keys) especially since the Apex Pro Mini is one of the best examples of how to do this form factor right the SteelSeries Apex Pro Mini (Gen 3) is $220 It's only $20 more for the tenkeyless and full-sized variants (which also include wrist rests) and $50 more for the wireless tenkeyless model You can absolutely find great alternatives for less some with more features or greater hardware customization The Apex Pro Mini lacks any wireless connectivity My greatest complaint is that the SteelSeries Apex Pro Mini doesn't offer the best typing experience outside of gaming Other premium keyboard brands have been upping the ante with more refined typing experiences and more luxurious acoustics in the last few years That's especially obvious when you look at bespoke custom keyboard brands like Keychron which is investing more into gaming-grade features and performance the Apex Pro Mini is both comfortable and precise and it feels great — it's just not as good as I'd expect for $200+ Another compact gaming keyboard using Hall Effect magnetic switches this NZXT peripheral saves you a little bit of cash and offers excellent gaming performance and a top-notch typing experience SteelSeries probably wins in terms of build quality and refinement but you do get white and black options here This Apex Pro alternative offers a very similar level of performance and a nearly identical feature set The Apex Pro is the easier keyboard to setup and use but I'd give the edge in performance and value to the Huntsman V3 Pro If I had to give you a single company to source all of your gaming accessories SteelSeries would certainly be a contender The SteelSeries Apex Pro Mini (Gen 3) may not be one of the absolute best keyboards in my eyes but it's still a fantastic peripheral with top-notch performance and a wealth of software features SteelSeries put in some serious effort to make this compact 60% layout as comfortable and intuitive as possible and the magnetic switches offer some obvious advantages over traditional mechanical switches More companies are taking notice of this technology Bespoke keyboard brands are creating some seriously incredible gaming hardware while gaming companies are paying more attention than ever before to typing experiences and acoustics you'll want to be sure it offers everything you need and not much that you don't The smallest version of SteelSeries' best gaming keyboard boasts top-notch performance and countless software features thanks to its unique magnetic switches There are some very strong challengers in the space so be sure this is the keyboard that best suits your needs before dropping all that dough you will then be prompted to enter your display name has described President John Dramani Mahama’s recent nomination of seven justices to the Supreme Court as a strategic effort to restore balance to the country’s apex court Speaking on Channnel One TV’s The Big Issue on Saturday May 3 Prof Khalid said the move should be viewed in the broader historical context of appointments made by successive presidents emphasising that it reflects a pattern of democratic recalibration rather than partisanship I label the President’s appointment of these noble judges or justices to the Supreme Court as a balancing act of our apex court,” Prof Khalid stated He further outlined the history of Supreme Court appointments under Ghana’s Fourth Republic noting that each administration had made substantial contributions to the composition of the bench “He [Rawlings] appointed 10 justices of the Supreme Court Then Kufuor took over between 2000 and 2008 and appointed 17 justices we had Nana Akufo-Addo who did 15 in an eight-year period Now this seven that Mahama has done will even give us how many — that is still 11.” Prof Khalid’s remarks come amid debate over the politicization of judicial appointments and concerns about the independence of the judiciary he stressed that appointments by any administration should be seen as part of a broader institutional evolution aimed at maintaining the ideological and generational balance on the Supreme Court bench CJ’s Suspension: 0.1% can’t speak for GBA – Appiah Danquah CitiNewsroom.com is fittingly for how I feel about this game right now - is a massive bastard He’s an upbeat chap despite his Apex-character-standard family issues Even with an archer motif that slots neatly into Season 25’s renewed focus on long-range shootouts the sheer versatility of Sparrow’s ability loadout – which spans enemy tracking and one hell of a mobility aid – make his all-around lethality honestly kind of worrying I know I won’t like playing against him Sparrow’s day job is to flick out tracking darts that embed in walls or floors and – after a brief delay – feed his team the positions of any opponents caught in its radius While the fact that each dart needs line-of-sight to track a target means they aren’t as individually powerful as Bloodhound’s omniscient tactical scan they still highlight foes that Sparrow and his pals can’t see themselves which is more than enough of an advantage to mount a successful push too: if I ever wanted to set up a sniping perch in the latter stages of a match I’d usually drop a dart behind me as an early-warning proximity alarm This wouldn’t spoil my chance to throw out offensive darts either, as they come with multiple, rapidly refilling charges, with the option to add more via skill tree upgrades Enemies that are quick enough on the draw can shoot down darts before they activate I found it easy to just carpet-dart entrenched players to the point where they’d either be tracked or in need of a reload by the time I’d moved in on top of them they’d be filled with more holes than freshly baked focaccia this lot are typically built around possessing powerful intel-gathering abilities of the kind that can grant game-winning impetus in a fight – but at the expense of lacking ways to evade and escape if the other team survives the vision disadvantage and confronts them which repeatedly (and painfully) shocks and slows enemies in its generous area of effect That’s plenty of indirect damage-dealing added to his bulging toolkit it’s equally ruinous whether you’re dropping it at your feet to reclaim the edge in an up-close brawl or twanging it into a distant squad from range Its precision-firing capability also makes Stinger Bolt stand out particularly ahead of most other legends’s AoE powers It’s not nullified by overhead cover like Bangalore or Gibraltar’s airstrikes but with a gentle arc (and the help of a double-jump) it can still disrupt the nests of barrier specialists like Rampart and Newcastle It's actually quite hard to think of a current character that isn’t either countered or outclassed by at least one of Sparrow’s skills New legends always launch strong – Respawn openly admit to doing this on purpose to shock stale metas out of their funk – but I’ve played Apex since day one and this guy is the first one that truly genuinely feels like a spoilt child whose rich mum has taken them to Bullshit 'R' Us on their birthday Of course you can have legalised wallhacks Let’s ask the lady if they have any more movement tech from that mech game your father had killed the worst part of all of this is that my desire to keep playing Sparrow is roughly as strong as my fear of becoming a charred It’s a classic case of power corrupting: I know my soul blackens like a publishing executive's every time I sneak up on two warring squads and mop up the survivors with an electric death-pylon launched from half a mile away and yet I will do it again given the chance Is this illicit high worth the pain of being in the other end of the exact same engagement Season 25 does make some other changes worth reporting they’re overshadowed by Sparrow’s towering murder potential particularly to bump up how often you’ll be able to throw out his grappling hook I’m down for this – that bit of string is by far the most enjoyable part of Pathy's kit – though after trying him out in the preview build it rarely felt like he was regaining much of a competitive edge it wasn’t long before I was yearning to return to my overtuned Mediterranean boy I much preferred Season 25’s tweaks to the Bocek bow which include gifting you a full quill of arrows on pickup – surely making it a key target in resource-scrambling hot drops – and the ability to convert any frag grenades in your pack into a handful of explosive arrows so they’re unlikely to be game-winners by themselves but they do make missed shots more forgiving so long as they land close enough to clip the target with the microblast As with charge-up weapons that let you temporarily power up by sacrificing a shield cell or throwable the “use it or lose it” aspect of these amped shots acts as an effective motivator to get stuck in rather than cautiously hanging back that thinking would appear to be at odds with a seasonal update that Respawn say is about "letting long-range weapons shine." Except static scope-to-scope combat is not the new playstyle du jour at least judging from the rounds I’ve played camped out sharpshooters are being tempted to get mobile be it through those explosive arrows or the new gold-tier attachment for snipers and marksman rifles that removes the move speed penalty while aiming them I don’t know if this will result in lobbies full of bunnyhopping snipers scooting in to blast me point blank but after last year’s shift to the slow and widely reviled "Support meta," I’d be inclined to take anything that inspires a more flowing and dynamic style of combat Even if it means an onslaught of twenty dart-flinging the chance to be one of them is enough make the whole prospect a lot more palatable No part of this website or its content may be reproduced without the copyright owner's permission Rock Paper Shotgun is a registered trademark of Gamer Network Limited © Mondaq® Ltd 1994 - 2025. Bleck We've now heard from a specific employee who was made redundant just one day after EA revealed the Apex Legends character she wrote On Monday now-former narrative designer Heather Woodward was celebrating the launch of her character who she had been writing "for well over a year," and who she referred to as "my first born." Today she shared a screenshot of a marketing email promoting Sparrow sent the very day she was laid off "I mean it's objectively pretty funny to get a promo email for the character I wrote the day I'm let go," she said on Bluesky I'm really not sure I'd be able to indulge in the painful irony with the sort of grace and humility on display in her social media posts this is awkward but… I was just mass-downsized at Respawn," she said after learning of her position's redundancy "These things happen and my time with Apex has been a top to bottom blast I'll continue to be insufferable about him for weeks to come." I worked as a copy editor while freelancing for places like SFX Magazine I'm responsible for managing the site's western regional executive branch and writing about whatever horror game I'm too afraid to finish Plus buffs for Pathfinder and the Bocek returns to ground loot Apex Legends Season 25 has announced Prodigy the 25th season of Respawn's battle royale which introduces a brand new bow-toting Legend called Sparrow the Bocek gets some love and Pathfinder receives a few buffs There are also a couple of ranked updates on the way This news comes amid a week of layoffs that have impacted numerous EA studios including team members who worked on Apex Legends at developer Respawn the writer of the game's new Legend introduced in this update just days before today's announcement that showcases their work Apex Legends' Sparrow will be the first archer to grace the games and everyone can test out this new addition for themselves you will need to complete the set challenges to have him permanently added to your roster which will highlight and reveal any nearby enemies Sparrow's passive is the self-explanatory 'Double Jump' which lets Sparrow hit multiple enemies at once with six energy blasts in a row they'll all become targets at the mercy of your Ultimate Pathfinder has seen some changes to bring him back into the Fight The cooldown for his Tactical ability 'Grapple Hook' now has a 15-30 seconds cooldown and Zipline Zen returns with a 50 percent increased damage reduction You can trade a Double Tactical Charge for the Variable Grapple cooldown and a Double Ultimate Charge has been added too with three-versus-three fast-paced battles and a new one-on-one Arena: Duels mode coming later your team of Legends needs to win a total of three rounds first to be dubbed the winners the Bocek has been boosted with the ability to add Frag Grenades then energise the weapon to create Explosive Arrows that detonate on impact The Bocek also returns to ground loot for season 25 but there’s a catch - there’s no ammunition to be found on the ground you’ll need to collect arrows from deathboxes of deceased players or grab arrows that have been fired by another Bocek user ranked players will see a brand new ranked ladder for Prodigy and climbing the ladder won't affect regular ranked progression Players can progress through the Leaderboard for different rewards by taking part in normal ranked matches this season © 2025 Eurogamer.net a brand of IGN Entertainment Eurogamer is a registered trademark of Gamer Network Limited EA has laid off hundreds of employees—reportedly around 300 to 400—across its studios including around 100 at Respawn Entertainment Among the many developers left scrambling in an industry where this has become shockingly routine a now-former narrative designer at Respawn was laid off a literal day after the character she'd spent a whole year writing debuted Apex Legends introduced a new character by the name of Sparrow: "My first born is finally here," Woodward posted to Bluesky "I’ve been working on this sweet ragazzo for well over a year Writing a music video style trailer was a tough but rewarding challenge and I can’t believe I get to see my work animated by the incredible team at Sun Creature." Then, on April 29, the layoffs hit and Woodward discovered she'd been caught in the wave of sacrifices to the altar of growth: "Well this is awkward but… I was just mass-downsized at Respawn These things happen and my time with Apex has been a top to bottom blast It’s been a true joy to write Sparrow I’ll continue to be insufferable about him for weeks to come." As if to properly hammer a final, capricious nail into a coffin, Woodward was then sent a promotional email for the character she wrote before she was promptly shown the door Woodward appears to be taking this on the chin in a way that's downright enviable—but it really does feel like a perfect nutshell of how messed up and unsustainable this industry has become Let's take a look at the reasons why you might get laid off while working on a game Keep up to date with the most important stories and the best deals Harvey RandallSocial Links NavigationStaff WriterHarvey's history with games started when he first begged his parents for a World of Warcraft subscription aged 12 though he's since been cursed with Final Fantasy 14-brain and a huge crush on G'raha Tia He'll sink his teeth into anything that looks interesting He also plays a shelf load of TTRPGs in his offline time Don't ask him what his favourite system is Watch TrailerAvailable onSpotlightTarget greatness with new Legend Sparrow 2025Apex Legends™: Prodigy Gameplay TrailerFeaturesThe LegendsChoose from a lineup of outlaws The Apex Games welcome all comers – survive long enough Play in classic 60-person Battle Royale matches these massive landscapes host the massive Apex Games Apex Legends' lore is rich with diverse character backstories and motivations NewsNews ArticleMay 2 2025New Updates Coming with Apex Legends™: SparrowTaking a look at Prodigy’s prodigy and how you can unlock him and get his look News ArticleMay 1 2025New Updates Coming with Apex Legends™: ProdigyTaking a look at Prodigy’s game updates including Sparrow 2025Apex Legends™: Community Art SpotlightShowcasing artistic leaders from across the Apex Legends™ community 2025Apex Legends™: Community Cosplay SpotlightShowcasing cosplay leaders from across the Apex Legends™ community 2025Apex Legends™: Community Spaces/Initiatives SpotlightShowcasing spaces and initiatives from across the Apex Legends™ community Apex Legends Prodigy Release DateThe Prodigy update for Apex Legends is set to go live on May 6th and we are deeply grateful to every teammate affected" Respawn has canceled two "early-stage" incubation projects and cut developers from its Apex Legends and Star Wars: Jedi teams The EA-owned studio said "the decision to step away from two early-stage incubation projects and make some targeted team adjustments across Apex Legends and Star Wars Jedi" was "difficult" EA would not confirm to the press precisely how many roles have been made redundant, but IGN suggests 100 or so individuals have been affected by the cuts employed in the development and we are deeply grateful to every teammate affected - their creativity and contributions have helped build Respawn into what it is today," the statement added confirming the company was "offering meaningful support to those impacted including exploring new opportunities within EA." The post closed on thanking everyone "who has been part of [its] journey - past and future," adding: "we carry your legacy with us into everything we create next." Previously your team not only had to win three rounds but also have two more total wins than the other squad the winner of the next round would then have to win again to win This would cause some Arenas matches to go on for.. with Round 9 always graciously acting as a take-all tiebreaker so both teams could finally go their separate ways "The fact that matches were dragging and could become frustrating [led] sometimes to players even dropping out early," Bachellerie said "We simplified the win condition to the first three rounds won to help with the pacing." we're going to update the game mode with a few [more quality-of-life] changes that we hope will address some of the pain points the experience originally had," Bachellerie added "Some of the store choices were a bit cumbersome focusing the purchasing space on more interesting items we'll introduce a ban and a discount system The former prevents you from choosing the same weapon every round; the latter tempts you to buy/try a weapon that is outside of your comfort zone will help with the overall game mode meta health weren't very enticing [in the original mode] We did a pass on [those] rewards to take it up a notch." When I asked how long Arenas will stay in Apex Legends this time around Bachellerie said it will be for a few weeks transforming into something new when Season 25's first major patch drops "The [traditional] 3v3 game mode is meant to support 25.0 until 25.1 a new game mode variant called Arenas: Duels [which will be 1v1] will take the place of Arenas in the [Limited Time Mode] slot These game modes may come back in the future as well a lot will depend on how the season plays out for those modes' actual popularity." Those who prefer to only play the mainstay battle royale mode of Apex Legends will have new stuff to look forward to as well Season 25 feels like a love letter to those who have been clamoring for the return of the Bocek Compound Bow--the weapon has returned to the ground loot pool and the new playable legend is an archer with a soft spot for the weapon To fix the ammo problem that originally saw the Bocek removed from ground loot and stuffed into Care Packages (the bow was the only weapon to use the "arrow" ammo type so very little of it spawned in comparison to every other ammo type) the weapon will behave like a Care Package firearm without actually being one--it will come pre-equipped with a number of arrows removing the initial need to look for ammo Replenishing your ammo works much as before--collecting loose arrows from the world that failed to make their target--with one fun exception: An enemy that has been damaged by arrows will transform into a deathbox riddled with arrows upon their death This lets you run by the deathbox and grab the arrows passively removing any need to actually spend time looting to replenish ammo for the Bocek When I asked the team if it was possible for a player to pull arrows that have been shot into them out of their own body "Unfortunately not at launch but that's a fun idea we'll look into!" So if that gets patched into Apex Legends in a future update: You're welcome In a fun and explosive change for the Bocek Season 25 adds the option to attach any frag grenades in your inventory to an arrow these bomb arrows have been a great way to match Fuse's distance in launching frag grenades with the added benefit of the piercing nature of the arrow meaning the frag grenade sticks to the target It's going to be a lot of fun to use this to scare enemy teams and make them scatter as they abandon the one teammate with a bomb suddenly stuck to their neck "There's a noticeable difference from the delay and way frag grenades detonate [in comparison to the bomb arrows and] we've done a lot of work on the presentation so it should be abundantly clear when you or an ally has been stuck so that players can try and make the best decisions they can," Canavese said No one likes the Bocek more than Season 25's new legend who has unique pick-up animations and voice lines with the bow akin to Mad Maggie with the Mastiff shotgun and Vantage with the Sentinel sniper rifle Sparrow is primarily geared toward mapping spaces and locating enemies Sparrow leans closest to the last of those comparisons in that his abilities make him an ideal marksman and long-range combatant which lets him do exactly what it sounds like The only time this ability doesn't work is when Sparrow goes off a Launch Pad which already gives a character a double-jump "[Sparrow's double-jump] does have a unique sound so you should be able to pick it out versus the other ones," Sparrow legend designer John Ellenton told me when I noted that Sparrow is the third legend to have an ability that lets a player double-jump (Octane's Launch Pad and Vantage's Echo Relocation) which could create audio confusion in the midst of a match if a team is trying to figure out who is moving in on them it emits a constant scan--any enemy that wanders into that space is marked allowing Sparrow and his allies to track their position for as long as they remain in the dart's sight lines These darts can be destroyed by the other team encouraging Sparrow to place them in hard to discover spots Sparrow can fire a Tracker Dart into a Survey Beacon allowing him to bypass the lengthy hacking process to instantly access the beacon's information and discover the location of all nearby squads "His tactical can really give your team some great awareness of the battlefield," Ellenton said "Placing it in chokes or behind your team to cover your backs makes it a great anti third party tool we were about to jump on a team when a trap [would go] off--this allowed us to change strategies and not get caught out in a bad push It's also great to throw out at teams you know are there; this will give you more direct moment-to-moment tracking if you can catch them with it." Sparrow's ultimate ability is Stinger Bolt Using a high-tech bow affixed to his gauntlet emits a pulse that targets and electrifies any enemies in the vicinity both weakening them and slowing their movements This makes it far easier to catch and kill enemies trying to escape an ambush Both Sparrow's Tracker Dart and Stinger Bolt are small making them far easier to fit through barred windows and partially opened doors than most legend abilities--together the two abilities can give a team the layout of a room and weaken any potential threats without even having to go inside "They are actually both great tools [for] flushing enemies out of a room," Ellenton confirmed other than having strong Ezio Auditore energy--he's an Italian with a sarcastic and good-natured personality who descends from a family that belongs to an order of assassins with avian motifs Sparrow's inclusion in the game will push Apex Legends' narrative forward which has stagnated and hasn't seen much momentum in over a year "The narrative goals for Sparrow would be to explore a legend whose entire world and identity was rigidly defined by them [for] their entire lives by their family but is now living on his own terms and learning what it is he wants all while under the microscope of the public eye," narrative director Amanda Doiron told me "His good nature allows him to navigate this better than many people especially because he does still love his family and desires their acceptance even if they have never quite accepted him as he is." Sparrow will have some connections with other legends in the Apex Games "While he has no previous history with the legends before joining the Games I think a number of them could relate to how much the Games allow him to express himself fully and also surround himself with a found family," Doiron said and Octane are just a few that come immediately to mind." Admittedly I was surprised Vantage wasn't one of those that Sparrow has camaraderie with given their similar set-ups: Both are very young marksmen-focused legends with a criminal parent and a cute pet (Vantage has a bat named Echo and Sparrow has a cat named Artemis) "We don't currently have [any] special dialogue between them but that's not to say we won't in the future," Doiron said as she noted to add lines between them in the future if this change happens in a future update: You're welcome Apex Legends is available for Xbox Series X|S The battle royale is free-to-play and supports both cross-play and cross-progression Got a news tip or want to contact us directly?
