financial scammer was sentenced Thursday to three years in prison for fraud after federal prosecutors say he duped clients out of millions of dollars
Corbman worked for several years with two individuals and two couples who loaned him money believing he would invest the funds and earn significant returns
that Corbman in 2016 was suspended and permanently barred by the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority from acting as a financial advisor
“Through false claims of investing success
Corbman induced his Clients to loan him up to $4.2 million
promising to invest or continue investing the money in stock market options trading,” the U.S
“Corbman promised to repay the loans at high rates of return
Corbman was affiliated with a national estate planning company through which he obtained access to individuals interested in estate planning and setting up trust vehicles
Prosecutors said Corbman offered financial advice to clients and potential clients
including assisting them with long-term financial planning such as trusts
Corbman suggested the clients could improve their investment returns if they loaned him money or rolled over existing loans they had made to him
The Ashburn resident misrepresented his past trading performance to induce the clients to invest or to reinvest what he owed them when the loans came due in the form of a new loan
Corbman provided at least two of his potential clients a document he claimed showed his 2021 investment results
when Corbman’s creditors demanded repayment of their expired loans agreements
Corbman indicated to his clients that he was unable to repay the loans due to unanticipated trading losses
seeking to discharge over $4 million in losses he had inflicted on his clients
at least one victim incurred substantial financial hardship

(7News) — When a longtime Loudoun County aquatics director was fired from the job she had for years
and the kids she taught to swim and their parents are upset
It’s my love,” Kristina Hart told 7News Reporter Nick Minock
Hart was the Aquatics Director and Director of Swim Programs at the Ashburn Village Sports Pavilion for almost ten years
“I built the program from the ground up,” said Hart
the aquatics center grew to host a thousand visitors per week
It’s where many families in Northern Virginia and the Ashburn Village bring their kids for swim lessons and recreation
Jacquelyn Porter has been bringing her son and daughter there for years
so having another trusted person that's been in our life one to two times a week for almost three years has been a huge impact on them,” said Porter
Porter said her kids joined swim lessons directly with Hart two years ago
“She [Porter’s daughter] was socially very shy
there were some worries of developmental issues
we just had another coach ask us how old he is because they want to try and put him on [the] swim team
So they thought he was good enough at this point that they were wanting to try and get him on the team
That's how far coach Kristina has taken my kids
from no face in the water to trying to get him on a team way too early.”
“It just is heartbreaking for the community,” Porter said of Hart’s firing
“There’s hundreds of children directly affected by it.”
Hart told 7News the trouble started last year when she arranged for five employees to get swim coach training in Florida
She needed everyone’s full legal name to book the plane tickets
another employee shared the flight itinerary in a group chat
Hart said one of the staff complained because the plane tickets that were shared in the group had the person’s legal name
somebody's legal name was just used in that group chat
Hart said her boss wrote an apology and told Hart to send it
Hart said that the employee’s performance was declining
Hart said she went to her supervisor 29 times with issues about the employee’s performance
ranging from issues with teaching swim lessons to supervising kids
and the employee distracting the only lifeguard who was supposed to watch kids in the pool
but this employee was protected,” said Hart
and so they were using that status to keep themselves protected,” Hart answered
Hart said her boss did not allow the employee to be on a performance improvement plan
Hart sat down with the employee to encourage them on how they could improve their performance
but we're parting ways with you,” said Hart
‘You told another employee that this employee is transgender.’ And I said
That's why we're letting you go.”
Hart then discovered her boss wanted her to train her replacement
the sports pavilion sent an email to clients and staff announcing Hart was being let go
“If I were a parent that saw this email come out
that this person that had done so much for my children was just gone
like thrown out like the trash,” said Hart
“I would think they did something very terribly and something wrong with a child
I need to tell everybody why I was terminated and why it was wrong.'”
7News asked the Ashburn Sports Pavilion and their human resources company
and 7News requested an interview with the employee who complained about Kristina
General Manager Gayle Terrio declined in an email
“We remain committed to ensuring the strength and continuity of our Aquatics program and to supporting the community we serve.”
she believes the Ashburn Village Homeowners Association
should fire the people and the HR company responsible
and we're here to support her,” said Porter
The homeowner's association said the board was not informed of the reasons for the termination
nor given an opportunity to weigh in on the decision
Porter fears that now that Kristina is gone
the swim program will suffer and potentially lose business
so I've invested a lot of money over the years,” said Porter
“I also pay for extra guest passes and pool passes to bring in family members to utilize the facilities
and I don't want my children to feel that way
It could affect their high school careers if they're not getting the proper swim team community and development
Porter added that non-HOA members paid to get swim lessons from Kristina at the sports pavilion
“That's how well regarded she's made our programs,” said Porter
“People want to pay extra money to come into our HOA,” added Porter
“The reason I was comfortable putting her [Porter's daughter] on [the] swim team was because coach Kristina was going to be there.”

The faithful have celebrated Easter Mass at St. Thomas More Catholic Church ever since the first crop of single-family homes pushed back the prairie, creating the spanking new Eisenhower era neighborhood of Ashburn
That tradition will end this Easter Sunday
The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Chicago told the congregation last week — on Palm Sunday
no less — that the 67-year-old edifice will hold its last liturgy on May 25 and will no longer function as a church after that
it’s that the brick-and-limestone church at 8100 S
and will be put to new uses instead of being demolished or mothballed
Certainly, the shrinking archdiocese, forced to close and consolidate churches for the last 35 years, has had bigger losses. (You know, I’m still salty that the archdiocese wrecked St. Basil, a Byzantine beauty at 1850 W
one has to lament a bit that with its modernist
yet elegant and reverent interiors — really among the best of the archidocese’s postwar churches — St
Thomas More will be no longer used for the main purpose for which it was designed
“We’re really fighting to keep it open [as a church],” longtime parishioner William MacDonald said Thursday while watching the worship space being prepared for Easter
Tommy More — parishioners still call it that — drew more than 1,200 people to weekly services during the good years in the 20th century
Worshippers filled the ranks of modernist oak pews
Natural light enters through mosaic windows
is told in a series of stained glass windows that ring the ovoid worship space
all the way to his beheading by Henry VIII in 1535
“We’re the only church in the archdiocese and probably in the country [that’s Catholic] that has a picture of [Anglican] King Henry VIII,” MacDonald said
Thomas More is totally unlike the revivalist
Old World-inspired styles that marked Chicago Catholic church architecture just a few decades earlier
steel-and-glass-style Miesian architecture either.)
a Chicago architect who years ago developed an eye for the city’s postwar Catholic churches and their history
Valerio said a succession of Chicago cardinals beginning with the Rev
George Mundelein in the 1930s through the Rev
Albert Meyer in the 1960s wanted to move Catholic churches away from Gothic and neo-classical styles in favor of designs that better expressed openness
“I think that attitude gave license to the architects to really go with all these modernist designs,” Valerio said
“You wouldn’t think the Catholic Church would get involved in this kind of philosophical transition over a relatively short period of time
the result is a church that made use of light
materials and art to create a new kind of place of worship
Longtime parishioner William MacDonald wants to see St
sprang up in the region during the 1950s and 1960s
Barry & Kay, architects of St. Thomas More and its parish buildings, designed St. Ferdinand Church at 5900 W. Barry Ave. in Belmont Cragin in 1956
Another standout from the era is St. Priscilla at 6949 W. Addison St. in Dunning
“The key thing here is that there was a professional organization [the Catholic Church] that knew how to build things
which is important because that’s a good client,” Valerio said
“And they had architects who were skilled and anxious to step away from traditional designs.”
Thomas More’s membership has shrank to about 300
which had been predominantly white and Catholic
now has a largely Black (and non-Catholic) population
MacDonald said the church has a small Black membership
Thomas More will will be used by the Black Catholic Initiative and the Augustus Tolton Spirituality Institute as “a resource
gathering space and hub for outreach ministries.”
There are no plans to alter the building or remove its art
“The plan is to use the space as an opportunity for faith-learning
faith sharing and faith exploration,” the spokesperson said
“I’m not against the idea of changing or bringing in new influences,” said MacDonald
But he said ending religious services there “is a mistake.”

A video of a cowardly group of teen bullies terrorizing a terrified 5-year-old Chinese-American boy in Virginia has gone viral—and now parents are calling for accountability
The boy attempting to hide from the bullies in Virginia
a middle school student from Eagle Ridge Middle School racially harassed our 5-year-old son at our front door.
The two-minute video, shared on YouTube by the group "JusticeForEthan" shows a group of teens—reportedly from Eagle Ridge Middle School—preying on the young preschooler who was sobbing and begging for the torment to stop
"Don't hurt me!" the child shouted while clutching a blue blanket he tried to hide behind while the teens called him offensive names
Save me!" he shouted while running to the corner of his family's porch in Ashburn
While still repeating racially-offensive names toward the young boy
the teens ran away after their first barrage
only to turn back around to shout more slurs at the boy
"Go eat your dumplings," one of them shouted
at which point the bullies retreated like cowards
he's telling on me," while fleeing the area on foot
The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office was advised of the incident
but no charges have been filed due to their ages
Some are calling for the teens' parents to be held responsible for the actions of their children
"The parents of the middle school kids should be blamed as this is obviously a result of bad family education," a member of the community said
"A normal kid would never do something like this to other people," Zhe Huang continued
"Shame on the family who raise their kids to come such a racist."
The incident had a wide-ranging impact on the community, which rallied behind the boy and raised more than $45,000 "to pursue legal action
and stand against racial hate targeting children."
"Our 5-year-old son, Ethan, was racially harassed by a middle school student in our own neighborhood," his parents wrote in a GoFundMe that went as viral as the video
"Despite reporting the incident to the school and police

Its beers are also on tap at bars and restaurants throughout the D.C.-area
The Auburn location has hosted hundreds of live events over the years
The last day for that location will be April 5
In a social media posting
the owners said Graham and Mary Ann Burns plan to retire
and Chris and Kristin Burns “have some exciting opportunities” outside of the brewing world
The owners said their Ashburn lease was up
though they planned to pass the business on to new owners
Their plans for a potential handover were subsequently squashed once they learned the landlord had already re-leased the space to another tenant
their announcement did not rule out a second coming of Old Ox at another location down the road
“It’s been an epic ride and we’re so thankful to all of you that have come along for this ride with us,” their Facebook posting said
“It has been an incredible journey these past 11 years
and consumer an impressive quantity of delicious beer.”

had been granted bond in a prior unrelated sex case in Loudoun County court
VA — The suspect charged in the homicide of a teenage boy found in an Ashburn grocery store parking lot had been out on bond for a prior unrelated sex offense
Mohamed was granted bond for another offense
Loudoun County Commonwealth's Attorney Bob Anderson said Mohamed appeared in Loudoun County Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court on March 3 for a bond motion
The charge was for consensual intercourse with a minor aged 15 or more

The victim's name is not being released due to his age
the investigation determined it was a shooting that happened at another location — the 43000 block of Hillmont Terrace in the Broadlands neighborhood
The Commonwealth's Attorney's office said it could not comment further on pending cases against Mohamed
