Bad weather will not spoil the fun for children at this new business coming to The Shoppes at the Village
Let’s Run Around
is an indoor playground currently under construction
co-owner of the business with her husband Mark
said the idea came from the few options the Green Bay area had for her two boys to burn energy during cold
“My husband Mark and I came up with the idea,” Kinnunen said
It’s a 20,000-square-foot space and the largest family-owned indoor playground in Wisconsin
It will feature two private rooms for birthday parties
a 2 to 5 year-old play zone and a wide-open area with swings
“That’s why we know the building so well,” she said
"I used to come here during my college years."
Kinnunen said there are plans in the future to utilize the kitchen and offer cooking classes for children
She also plans to partner with a local coffee shop to operate a café inside the playground for parents to sit
enjoy a bite and a coffee while their children play
"They would have their own hours and manage everything," Kinnunen said
Kinnunen said the business will be open 12 hours a day all year and operate with minimal staff onsite
Families will be able to let themselves in and out using a unique code at the front doors
with monthly and yearly memberships as well as daily admissions
monthly memberships range from $29.99 to $23.99 per child
While yearly memberships go from $189.99 to $164.99 per child
Daily passes will be $12.99 and two adults accompanying those children do not pay
"We will also have events for children in the future," Kinnunen said

The 18-year-old De Pere man who was killed last month in a motorcycle crash in Ashwaubenon has been identified
Connor J Carlson was killed in a crash at South Ashland Avenue and Mike McCarthy Way, according to Ashwaubenon Public Safety
Carlson was southbound on Ashland at 11:25 p.m
April 26 when he collided with a sedan turning right onto Mike McCarthy Way
A visitation for Carlson will be held from 4-6 p.m. May 7 at Calvary Lutheran Church, 1301 S. Ridge Road, according to his obituary
The obituary described Carlson as a person who truly valued people
He volunteered at Green Bay Fear haunted house
where he "found great joy in 'scaring people'" and at Happily Ever After
"While his ability to make others smile and laugh was second to none and will surely be remembered by all
his uncanny ability to not only know when one needed comfort and care but also always stepping in to do so
Carlson grew up in Howard and graduated early from Bay Port High School in January
He "was looking forward to joining his classmates in June to walk and accept his diploma," his obituary said
The driver of the sedan was an 84-year-old Ashwaubenon woman
who sustained serious but nonlife-threatening injuries
and has been turned over to the Brown County Sheriff Crash Reconstruction Team

GREEN BAY (WLUK) -- The top spot in the Fox River Classic Conference softball standings was on the line Tuesday when perennial league title contenders Green Bay Preble and Ashwaubenon met in what was expected to be a pitchers' duel between two aces going to Division I universities next season
Ashwaubenon's Berritt Herr is headed to Wisconsin and entering Tuesday the Jaguars had allowed just five runs in 10 games
Preble's Katie Geydoshek is headed to Loyola Chicago and the Hornets had allowed just 10 runs in 13 games played
Runs were expected to be at a premium and they were
Preble scored in each of the first four innings and Geydoshek was lights out as the Hornets moved to 14-0 on the season with a 5-0 win over Ashwaubenon
Highlights of Preble softball, Bay Port soccer victories
"When we scored a lot of runs today it took the pressure off and really settled everything down
and I feel like it really helped me," Geydoshek said
"The hitting helped the defense and the defense helped the offense
and everything was just working in sync today."
"We could only hope to put the ball in play that many times against such a great pitcher," coach Ron Metzler said
"I don't really know how many of the runs were earned versus unearned
I just know we didn't strike out as much as most teams
"We put the ball in play and I think we got a lot of hits; some were good
but when you face a great pitcher like that and don't strike out you got a great chance."
Preble (10-0 in FRCC) struck out eight times against Herr
but the five runs were easily more than she had allowed in a game all season
Preble might have extra motivated after losing three times to the Jaguars (9-2
"We had a little streak going against this excellent team for a couple years there and then last year
so I think it was really important to let the world know that
they're probably going to be close games this year
"We thought it was great to get a win against that team was good because we had lost last year."
as Preble won via a shutout for the ninth time this season
She always came up with the big pitch at the right time
"Katie competes so hard every time," Metzler said
"It doesn't matter who she's facing
she works all of her pitches and never gives up
And even when things don't go her way she just tries harder
but Katie's always competitive."
Metzler talked to his team about this possibly being the first of three games against Ashwaubenon
as like last year they expect to see the Jaguars in the postseason
this win could have an impact for the postseason
"I definitely think this is important
and I just feel like this is going to boost our confidence
and it's going to make us come together," Geydoshek said

Wis. — The 2025 NFL Draft is almost here
but there’s no time to rest for the people working to pull of the national-scale event
really kind of putting the final touches and refinements to things like transportation and traffic management
things of that nature are kind of first and foremost on our minds today,” Ashwaubenon Village Manager Joel Gregozeski said
“And then really just kind of refining the plan as we get closer to the Draft Day and being ready to make adjustments on the fly as the event comes to fruition.”
but community leaders are trying to think ahead and be proacitve so the event goes off without a hitch.
Gregozeski said he hopes out-of-towners enjoy Ashwaubenon while they’re visiting
He said there’s going to be something for everyone at the draft
in the heart of the draft,” Gregozeski said
“Even though the draft claims to be in Green Bay
much of the activities are right here in Ashwaubenon
there is plenty to do from dining to food to other entertainment options within our sports and entertainment district
The NFL Experience is in the Titletown District which is in Ashwaubenon
doing all of the different types of activities that the NFL has planned and prepared for is going to be right here in the heart of Ashwaubenon and we’re excited for that.”

ASHWAUBENON (WLUK) -- A dog died in a fire Wednesday that seriously damaged two Ashwaubenon homes
crews were dispatched to a structure fire in the 1200 block of Skylark Lane for a reported garage fire
they found an attached garage fully engulfed in flames
which were spreading to the home's living areas
The fire had also spread to a neighboring home
due to its proximity to the engulfed garage
Firefighters extinguished the blaze at the initial house within 30 minutes
but due to the fire spreading to the attic of the neighboring house
it took an another 30 minutes to extinguish that fire
Crews were on scene for about two hours checking for hot spots and additional fire spread
No residents were inside the home where the initial fire began
but a dog inside the residence did not survive
The resident inside the neighboring home safely evacuated
Officials say both home sustained "significant damage."
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Brown County Fire Investigation Team
ASHWAUBENON − A meat processor is now selling its products in its recently opened retail store
Paulie's Chop Shop, a small meat market and processor plant from Luxemburg, opened its first retail location on March 1 at 933 Anderson Drive, Suite L, in Ashwaubenon, next to Village Roasters coffee
they have been raising pigs and selling them to local markets
they launched the brand "Paulie's Chop Shop" to sell products from the farm and offer custom processing for beef and pork
The business works with 15 local farmers and offers more than 70 in-house products
"Being able to process our animals allows us to keep prices down and the quality up," he said
The store's main meat products are made out of beef and pork, including sausages and steaks. They also sell products from other small businesses like Packerland Pizza and Vern's cheese
ice cream and a wide selection of barbecue seasonings and sauces

ASHWAUBENON – Maps laying out street closures for the NFL draft look imposing
but organizers assure residents and businesses they'll be able to get around
Not surprisingly, streets, parking and road closures took up the lion's share of discussion about the draft at the Ashwaubenon informational meeting Thursday at the village's performing arts center. The draft presentation, which made its way through the community this week, was essentially the same as the one on the city of Green Bay YouTube page
"We will not restrict access for you to live and work," said Jennifer Marks
an NFL representative involved in the planning
about access to his business immediately west of Lambeau Field
The 2025 NFL draft is scheduled for April 24-26 on the Lambeau Field campus and some surrounding blocks
People are counted each time they enter the draft campus
Estimates for unique individuals have not been made, but it will probably be much like a Packers game day
said the area hosted a similar crowd for the 2011 season kickoff
The draft is expected to generate a $94 million economic impact statewide and $20 million locally
South Ridge Road and Lombardi Avenue around Lambeau Field for several weeks will interrupt the normal flow of traffic between Green Bay and Ashwaubenon
and for residents in neighborhoods on both sides of Lombardi Avenue
Road closures for the draft will start March 28 when crews begin building the draft stage
which Ashwaubenon Village Manager Joel Gregozeski said will be as big as the nearby Resch Center
Portions of South Oneida Street and Armed Forces Drive will be closed from March 28 until a week to 10 days after the draft
More: Parking and traffic patterns remain key 2025 NFL draft issues for Lambeau area residents
More: Ashwaubenon road closures for NFL draft will begin as early as March 28 and last through early May
Gregozeski stressed that residents should obey parking signs
"It's going to get expensive if you get towed in these no-parking zones," he said
Game day parking restrictions around Lambeau Field will remain in place for the draft
with additional restrictions added on some streets
"All streets that are no parking for game day will be no parking for the draft," Gregozeski said
Traffic during the three days of the draft will be managed differently than during games
primarily because Lombardi Avenue will be closed
Drivers entering the area from the south will be advised to use Ashland Avenue
while those coming from the north are recommended to use Interstate 41 and exit at Mason Street
The I-41/Lombardi Avenue interchange will be used primarily by shuttles
Additional details on traffic flow will be announced later
Other points made during the presentation:
"Information that lacks detail tonight will show up on the NFL's OnePass app," Gregozeski said
which also will provide all the information needed to attend the event
UPDATE: The Ashwaubenon Department of Public Safety has identified the 18-year-old who was killed in a motorcycle crash last Saturday night in Ashwaubenon
the investigation is still ongoing and has been turned over to the Brown County Sheriff Crash Reconstruction Team
BROWN COUNTY (WLUK) -- An 18-year old man died Saturday evening after he was thrown from his motorcycle following a crash with another vehicle in Brown County
According to the Ashwaubenon Department of Public Safety around 11:25 p.m
the man was driving his motorcycle south on Ashland Ave
when he collided with a car turning onto Mike McCarthy Way
He was thrown from his motorcycle and eventually transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead
An 84-year-old Ashwaubenon woman was driving the other car and had serious but non-life threatening injuries
She was also taken to an area hospital and is cooperating in the investigation
GREEN BAY (WLUK) -- Tuesday in High School Game Time Green Bay Preble hosted Ashwaubenon in a battle of undefeated softball teams in Fox River Classic Conference action and the Hornets were too much
in FRCC girls soccer Bay Port beat Pulaski 2-0 as the Pirates stayed perfect on the season
14,464-square-foot building would be constructed in a vacant lot immediately north of the Epic Event Center
“The building will consist of 10 batting cages
and employee areas to operate the facility,” states the plan submitted to Ashwaubenon
The village’s Site Plan Review Committee discusses the proposal at 3 p.m
Tuesday in the boardroom at the Village Hall
ASHWAUBENON - A plan to develop housing on 40 acres of farmland west of Interstate 41 will proceed after developers reduced the number of units in response to neighbors' concerns
in fall 2024 proposed 153 housing units on property owned by Alice Pagels LLC
but revised the number and type of housing units down to 128 residences after neighbors raised concerns about the density and mix of housing units
The Ashwaubenon Village Board on Tuesday approved the planned unit development designation for the property and a preliminary subdivision plat for area
called Winding Creek Estates in documents submitted to the village
The votes enable VHC to proceed with developing the property located south of West Main Avenue
Winding Creek Estates plans include single-family homes
duplexes and apartments built along extensions of two existing roads into the 40-acre site
what changed and what residents had to say
Primarily the density of housing units in parts of the site plan
Some neighbors had a specific concern about their privately maintained road
A majority of residents density concerns after VHC widened some of the lots
increased the number of single-family homes and reduced the number of townhouses
He met with a lot of the neighbors in those neighborhoods
He did cut down on the number of townhomes," Village President Mary Kardoskee said during Tuesday's meeting
"He’s really listened to the residents over there
I have every confidence he will continue to do things right."
asked the Village Board to deny the plans until the apartments and townhouses were removed and replaced with more single-family homes
He said residents bought or built homes in the surrounding neighborhood never expected to have apartment buildings constructed nearby
"There are hundreds of acres in western Ashwaubenon more suited for these townhouses and apartments," Coleman told the board
Preliminary plans included 44 two-story townhouse condominiums
but the final plan cut that number to just 14 townhouses
VHC replaced some of the townhouses with six
But the site's predominant uses remain single-family homes and apartments
The final component of the housing plan would develop four
16-unit apartment buildings along the eastern edge of the property
The buildings would be located north and south of a row of garages
The apartment building plans would need to be reviewed and approved by village committees before construction could proceed
Smaller lots for 44 single-family homesThe site plan calls for construction of 44 single-family homes laid out along an extension of Pagels Place and along the new
U-shaped street to fill in the western chunk of the property
expects the single-family homes will be the first elements of the subdivision plan that will be built
The single-family homes would complement the existing homes in Woods Edge and the subdivisions to the west of the property
The homes will be built on smaller lots and smaller side-yard setbacks to enable VHC to make the project work financially
The plans call for the extension of several existing roads into the property in order to connect the site to the existing street grid
Pagels Place would be extended from the western edge of the site into the property and would serve as the main road to access the homes
U-shaped street would be built off Pagels Place to open up more of the property for development
part of the Woods Edge subdivision street network
would be extended north to intersect with Pagels Place
Pagels Place would end in a cul-de-sac for now
but it could be extended north to intersect with West Main Avenue at Spirit Way in the future
Schuette said residents of a nearby private street were concerned construction traffic would damage their road
so the planned unit development terms included a requirement that construction traffic only access the site via Pagels Place

ASHWAUBENON - A preliminary plan under review by Ashwaubenon would develop single-family homes
townhouse condominiums and apartments on 40 acres of farmland
The village's Site Plan Review Committee and Plan Commission have both given initial approval to VHC Inc.'s preliminary planned unit development proposal to build 153 total housing units on the property located south of West Main Avenue
east of South Ridge Road and west of Interstate 41
according to Brown County property records
The mix of rental and owner-occupied housing units on the site would help diversify housing options available in Ashwaubenon and offer options to everyone from families to empty-nesters
the village's community development director
"It really can appeal to a broad range of people looking to live here in the village," Schuette said
The project has a long way to go before it gets full approval from the village or crews start construction
An message left for a VHC official requesting an interview was not returned on Wednesday
The site plan also includes a stormwater pond on the eastern edge of the property and an environmentally sensitive area along Ashwaubenon Creek
A preliminary site plan layout includes 45 single-family homes laid out along an extension of Pagels Place and along the new
He added that the homes would occupy smaller lots with smaller side-yard setbacks that will enable VHC to make the project work financially
"Density is a key component to making sure these pencil out with the higher land costs
material costs and labor costs that go into building new homes," Schuette said
Townhomes would be similar to those in Aldon StationThe plans also call for 44 two-story townhouse condominiums north of Pagels Place
The townhouses would be divided into eight blocks of five or six units and Schuette told the Site Plan Review Committee they would be similar to those in the Aldon Station subdivision off South Broadway
Schuette said the developers have not requested financial support from the village for the development
tends not to provide tax incremental financing (TIF) support to owner-occupied housing developments
Want to share your thoughts with Ashwaubenon officials
Here's howThe village's Site Plan Review Committee and Plan Commission approvals mark the initial approvals for a preliminary plan
but the public will have several opportunities in the future to share their thoughts with village officials
The Ashwaubenon Village Board still must vote on the preliminary planned unit development request and it's expected to take the matter up in late September
village staff and the developers would work through details like lighting
Those details and plans would form the basis for the finalized planned unit development request
That plan would go through the same review process all over again
plus the Village Board would hold a public hearing for testimony on the request
Schuette said residents who live near the site should watch their mail for a letter from the village outlining opportunities for public input at upcoming village meetings

Reader question: Seeing [the article about why part of northeastern Green Bay isn't attached to Green Bay] got me to thinking about something I've heard ..
I've been told the land that the National Railroad Museum sits on is in Green Bay even though it's squarely in Ashwaubenon
Answer: Brown County land records say without a doubt the National Railroad Museum at 2285 S
The source of confusion stems from property records listing Green Bay's City Hall for the property's billing address and the city of Green Bay as the property owner
Press-Gazette article called a "pioneer Green Bay businessman and one of the most active citizens in civic
charitable and social organizations," wrote his last will on July 31
chunks of money that would equal between $2,000 and $46,000 in today's dollars
according to a copy of the will obtained by the Press-Gazette
which was a town back then: about 24 acres along the Fox River's west bank
There were conditions for the city owning the land
It would take the estimated 24 acres and incorporate them into the city's park system forever
The park must be named Cooke Memorial Park
and for the first 10 years that the city owned the land
it could rent out the property to raise money toward creating the park
It was the only piece of local news on the next day's front page in the Press-Gazette
small compared to the bold headlines of Germany's blitzkrieg of Poland and Luftwaffe raids over England
A single council member voted against accepting Cooke's offer to the city
arguing that the land would better fit into the county park system than the city's
Another council member who ultimately voted in favor of accepting the land had said during the City Council meeting that there were already other parks within the city's actual boundaries that merited attention
The terms of the will were legally put into effect on Feb
in front of Brown County Judge Carlton Merrill
according to copies of court documents provided with the will obtained by the Press-Gazette
the Press-Gazette occasionally reported on the city's few developments at site
Ashwaubenon watched in annoyance as headlines with some variation of "Work on new park area continuing" published sporadically in the late 1940s and early '50s
The city leveled the area with about 12,000 cubic yards of soil
That was about the extent of the work done at the site that had become a health hazard
"What to do about a family of at least 10 persons living under insanitary condition on Green Bay property with full knowledge of Green Bay officials ― and surrounded by health-conscious folks of Ashwaubenon ― faced the city park board," the Press-Gazette wrote in 1951
The then-town of Ashwaubenon wanted the city to destroy or remove the rat-infested house considered a "fire trap" and without running water
the city's attorney had begun the eviction process on land that was Ashwaubenon's jurisdiction
which reported that attorney John Whitney said the city was "'not completely disinterested in improving [the park]'" during talks with Brown County representatives about giving up ownership
the town wanted the city to give up the entire Cooke park site ― still in the process of leveling ― to Brown County's park system
the Press-Gazette reported of Ashwaubenon residents' feelings two months later
There was no money to do so ― a request had been taken out of the city's budget
"The work will have to be done with what finances and equipment can be 'borrowed' from other projects," then-Parks-superintendent Simonds said
the Board of Park Commissioners endorsed Wisconsin's State Historical Society's proposal for what would become the National Railroad Museum

ASHWAUBENON - Crews have started work on a 152-unit, two-tower mixed-use development on a high-traffic intersection in the village
Site work and excavation began at 750 Cormier Road in early January and will continue for awhile before the mixed-use complex begins to rise on the northeast corner of Holmgren Way and Cormier Road. Ashwaubenon in December issued a permit to Rodac Construction for the project with an estimated cost of $35.6 million
includes a five-story apartment building with first-floor commercial space
resident parking and another 300 parking spaces for visitors attending events at nearby entertainment venues
Two towers of apartment units will be connected by the first floor and an outdoor recreation space atop the first floor roof
Derek Liebhauser of Spark Development and Cormier Property Partners said Novara makes a nice addition to an active area while offering residents top-of-the-line amenities
How we got hereFrom 1942 to 2007, the Cormier Road property was home to Green Bay Packaging Inc.'s folding carton division
The operation relocated to a property on American Boulevard in 2007 and the company demolished the structures on the 7.8-acre site in fall 2022
Mark Skogen, owner of the Green Bay Rockers, Epic Event Center and Festival Foods
purchased the vacant site under the name Cormier Property Partners LLC
Cormier Property Partners submitted the current mixed-use development plan to village officials for review
The village approved a rezoning of the property to facilitate the project
Novara's plans call for a building with a shared first floor from which two
four-story towers of apartments would rise
The design includes common spaces on the first floor
but also allows the project to develop an elevated patio atop the first-floor roof
Liebhauser said additional outdoor grilling spots and green spaces will be developed on the site for tenants while the studio
two- and three-bedroom units will include high-end finishes and amenities
a dog wash and three retail spaces on the first floor
The development will also include 84 indoor parking spaces for apartment tenants
more than 480 surfacing parking spaces for retail space customers
residents and event parking for Capital Credit Union Park and other nearby entertainment venues
Liebhauser said the group hopes to begin taking names for a wait list within a couple of months before leasing begins in earnest in late 2025
He said the first units should open in early 2026
The building includes 8,000 square feet of commercial space for retail users
“We think it’s going to add some great energy to that corner of Cormier and Holmgren,” Liebhauser said
“It’s an attractive location for a business to come into.”
“It really furthers the momentum we see in the sports entertainment and village center districts,” Schuette said
As more momentum builds in that area of Ashwaubenon
the village will invest in some infrastructure to make sure people slow down in the area
Schuette said the village this year plans to install a crosswalk with rapid flashing beacons mid-block on Cormier Road
He said it is expected that event attendees will likely use Novara’s overflow parking area and the large parking lot in front of Epic Event Center to park for everything from Green Bay Rockers games at Capital Credit Union Park to concerts at Epic
The crosswalk will provide a safer way for pedestrians to cross Cormier
Regional collaboration and partnerships helped ensure the 2025 NFL Draft was a success that shined a bright
positive light on the entire Green Bay area
"We were so relieved to see that because you dream about being able to do this for your community," Toll said
"To have it come off the way it did was just unbelievable."
Here are six takeaways from the post-draft press conference and statements
Ashwaubenon Village Manager Joel Gregozeski said that for all the plaudits the Packers
a lot more agencies "played a very critical role in the success of this NFL draft."
"Successful partnerships and incredible teamwork" were keys to making sure everything went according to plans and Gregozeski said all village employees stepped up to take on nontraditional roles for the draft

DE PERE (WLUK) -- Friday night's boys basketball game between De Pere and Ashwaubenon was highly anticipated to say the least
Each team has a player worthy of being named Mr
Basketball in Ashwaubenon's Amari Allen and De Pere's Zach Kinziger
winners of the last three Fox River Classic Conference titles
entered the game with a conference winning streak of 44 games
scored 43 points and wowed the crowd with an array of off-dribble moves
Kinziger rallied De Pere from a nine-point second-half deficit and stayed perfect in conference play with a thrilling 83-82 win over the Jaguars
"This is a big game not to just get another game ahead of them
they're all very good teams," Kinziger said
"To keep an undefeated record in conference
it's a big game for us to stay ahead."
After Allen drilled a 3-pointer just before the halftime buzzer to give Ashwaubenon a 46-43
the Jaguars played from the lead most of the second half
and the lead grew to nine points midway through
When asked what he told his team at this moment
Just have to keep executing on the offensive end
'It's time.' The future Badger began to take over
Winchester didn't say he put it on Kinziger
and obviously we ran a couple sets through him," he said
"And late in the game he was able to get to the rim."
"Start of the second half I didn't have it going right away," Kinziger said
Just to hit those shots in those big moments
Allen and Kinziger down the stretch traded basket after basket
It became a spectacle the crowd could not get enough of
but when he made a spin move Roan Demovsky was there to strip the ball
Kinziger eventually got fouled and provided the winning points
Once the final second ticked off the clock
after strangely enough two missed free throws by Kinziger
8 Ashwaubenon (7-3) that ranks real high as far as regular season victories count
"We've had a lot of big crowds the last three years," Kinziger said
"We've had at least one sellout each year
To have a guy like Amari Allen on the other side and to end the way it did this one's got to stack up near the top."
ASHWAUBENON (WLUK) -- The residents most affected by the extensive logistics that will go into hosting the NFL Draft received their chance to ask questions to event organizers Thursday evening
Hundreds of people who work and live near Lambeau Field came to Ashwaubenon's Performing Arts Center wanting to hear more about plans for the NFL Draft from April 24-26
“We just came to get information on what was going to happen
how things are going to be setup,” said Rusty Gampshure
who lives in Green Bay but plans to park vehicles on properties in the village
“I really wanted to see what the street closures were going to be like because I do live about six blocks from the stadium,” said Cynthia Feay of Green Bay
filled mostly with information FOX 11 has been reporting the last several months
audience members were able to ask questions to draft organizers from the village
Audience questions largely focused on how to navigate road closures and increased traffic during the event
One Lambeau area resident questioned how residents might get their mail during the three days of the event
and I know this may not be a popular answer
if you're worried about getting access to your mail
I would maybe place a hold,” said Ashwaubenon Village Manager Joel Gregozeski
Others were more interested about the actual event, like when to be inside the footprint to ensure they're in before capacity might become an issue
“There are always times to get in and people will definitely be able to get in
but I would try to stay away from those peak hours of when the show opens on Thursday and Friday because those tend to be the busiest,” said Jennifer Marks
an event director for the NFL and C3 Presents
Those who attended say they're pleased with where things are at
“Anything big in this world today is a little bit frightening in many ways
but I feel really confident with all the security they've talked about and all the preparation seems to be really

ASHWAUBENON – The house damaged in a fire Tuesday in the 2200 block of Patty Lane is being considered a total loss after a cooking accident in the garage, according to Ashwaubenon Public Safety Department
Firefighters were sent out before noon Tuesday
Tomas Baxter of Ashwaubenon Public Safety said an accidental cooking fire started in the garage
Some people try to pull them in their garage just a little bit because it might be out of the wind,” Baxter said
“You just got to be very attentive to any cooking materials or open flames outside or near your residence.”
Baxter told the Press-Gazette the fire was “very well-established” by the time firefighters arrived
It took about 45 minutes to fully extinguish it
One person was in the home at the time of the fire; no injuries were reported
One home south of where the house fire took place experienced minor heat exposure damage
the home’s value was estimated at $281,100
A total loss of a home means that the repair and replacement cost of the home is worth more than the home's value itself

This November, the Ashwaubenon School District is asking residents to approve a $2.8 million referendum to maintain mental health services in the district
There are two kinds of referendum: capital and operational
Ashwaubenon is aiming to pass an operational referendum
which would allow the district to spend beyond state revenue limits
Revenue limits cap the amount of school funding that can be generated through property taxes and state aid
the amount schools can generate through property tax decreases unless districts go to referendum
Passing the referendum would allow Ashwaubenon to keep its nine mental health staff positions
The district would also be able to maintain its support for students at risk of not graduating
which assistant superintendent Keith Lucius said has made a huge difference for these students
It would also cover the cost of an additional position to help students prepare for post-high school
The 2020 referendum brought in an estimated $730,000 annually
The proposed three-year referendum would replace those funds
at an additional cost of about 9 cents per $1,000 of property value
The owner of a home valued as $200,000 would pay an additional $18 in taxes
The district also passed a separate $19.5 million referendum last year
which helped cover general operations within the district
The referendums are separate for a reason: The district said it wanted to allow the community to decide to renew each referendum specifically
More: If it seems Wisconsin school districts are asking voters for money more often, it's because they are
More school finance news: How much money did Green Bay area schools get in federal pandemic relief funds? What did they spend it on?
“While we could use funds from the 2023 operational referendum to pay for these positions, we believe it is important to be fully transparent with the community and to provide taxpayers with the opportunity to have their voice heard about renewal of these positions,” the district said in an FAQ post
Ashwaubenon conducted a community survey earlier this year to find out whether residents would support a referendum
asking questions about support for a referendum to fund student support positions
The survey showed 61.3% of respondents supported the referendum
The district plans to hold four informational sessions about the referendum: 8:30 to 9:30 a.m
27 at Coffee with the Superintendent at the Ashwaubenon Community Center
Additional information about the referendum is available at bit.ly/Ashwaubenon2024Referendum

ASHWAUBENON (NBC 26) — The site plan review committee in Ashwaubenon approved plans for a new indoor baseball training facility at their meeting Tuesday afternoon
The space for this proposed project is off Cormier Road in a vacant lot near the Epic Event Center
and it would be 14,464 square feet and 28 feet tall
The building would consist of 10 batting cages
equipment and employee areas to operate the facility
