Why is it they want the city to be like New York why don’t they leave it like it used to be to where you could enjoy it and walk down the streets now you don’t dare walk down the streets those of us that grew up around here hate seeing all these changes most people around here can’t afford the stuff anyway it’s ridiculous

Sales have launched at the Waldorf Astoria Residences, a 50-story luxury condominium tower planned for downtown St. Petersburg.
The project is backed by national real estate firm PMG and local developer Feldman Equities along with City Office REIT. Smith & Associates Real Estate will handle sales.
Once completed, the Waldorf Astoria Residences will rise above the 46-story Residences at 400 Central, making it the tallest building in the city and St. Petersburg’s first first five-star branded condo.
There are 163 condos available for purchase. The developer did not share a specific price range. But “we’ll probably be at the highest price per square foot in the market,” Kevin Maloney, Founder and CEO of PMG told the Tampa Bay Times.
A rendering of one of the primary bedrooms at the forthcoming Waldorf Astoria Residences in St. Petersburg. At 50-stories, it will be the city's tallest building. [ ARX Creative ]PMG is building two other Waldorf Astoria-branded condos in Miami and Denver. Maloney said the level of service and amenities that come with the Waldorf name are unlike anything that’s available in the local market right now.
Residents will have round-the-clock access to a personal concierge, valet parking, doorman and bellman services.
“It’s going to change St. Pete, no question,” he said. “Once we get this up and kind of prove our price point and this luxury product, I think you’re going to see other luxury brands come into the city.”
The building was designed by Cube3 and interiors were curated by Bamo.
Each condo at the Waldorf Astoria Residences in St. Petersburg will have it's own private terrace. [ ARX Creative ]Each of the two- and three-bedroom units will have private outdoor terraces, custom closets and top of the line appliances. They range from 2,031 to 3,408 square feet. There’s also a two story, 10,000-square-foot penthouse with a private pool overlooking Tampa Bay.
The 18th floor will be a dedicated amenity deck with private massage rooms, a his/her sauna, steam rooms, a fitness studio and an entertainment club for kids and teens.
The 20,000-square-foot pool deck will have several pools and spas, including an infinity pool that wraps around the perimeter of the building.
Residents will have access to a 46th-floor sky lounge complete with a sunset bar and outdoor terrace space.
The lower floors will have 73,000 square feet of office space, a parking garage and about 10,000 square feet of retail space on the ground floor.
A narrow podium will separate the amenity deck and residences from the lower floors, creating the illusion that the top part of the building is floating in mid air.

Due to its proximity to Albert Whitted Airport, the developers had to receive approval from the Federal Aviation Administration.
Maloney said the timeline for construction depends on how quickly the building sells.
But ideally, “I’d like to be in the ground by fall,” he said.

At the center of all the activity was Fiko Bektesevic
He moved swiftly and purposefully around the space

they’re all made “how they should be,” he said

A refrigerated dessert display case separates the tiny
Ukus’ origin story begins in the 1960s in Sarajevo
Bektesevic’s parents — dad Dzafer and mom Idajeta — grew up in the same neighborhood
each learning to cook by helping their parents in the kitchen
In 2001, mom and pop closed up shop and moved to New York, joining their daughter and son, who had come over one year earlier.
For birthday parties, local Balkan families order whole pies of burek instead of pizza.
In 2006, the family resurrected Ukus in Astoria, among a community of former Yugoslavians. Other popular Balkan spots, Djerdan Burek and Sarajevo Grill, were already there.
“All the restaurants — we all know each other, we’re all friends,” Bektesevic said. “There is no competition. They have their customers. We have our customers. There’s customers for everybody.”
When the Astoria Ukus opened, its menu contained a trimmed-down version of the selection from the original Sarajevo location. Since then, the recipes haven’t changed, and neither have its bestsellers.
The potato rolls at Ukus are made fresh daily.
Days follow the same rhythms: Two hours before the 10 a.m. opening, Bektesevic makes the burek dough. He kneads and rolls, then stretches out the balls into a translucent curtain, about arms' length. For the potato rolls, he stuffs mashed potato inside the dough and shapes it into coils. For the burek, he slathers minced beef inside one layer and folds the dough many times to bake into soft sheets of pastry with a crackly and paper-thin golden crust.
Every two days, he ferments yogurt to accompany the burek. Another popular dish is a traditional Bosnian soup that features clear vegetal broth loaded with slices of okra, carrots, parsley, chicken and a dollop of sour cream that diners mix in. If you could imagine a sausage being fluffy, it’s his cevapi.

Ukus is located at 4208 30th Ave. in Astoria.
Over the years, the family has added new dishes. Stews like pasulj (smoked beef and beans). Desserts like tulumbe, a dough of flour and egg yolk that’s pan-fried and soaked in sugar syrup overnight.
“It’s very old, from centuries ago,” he said.
That taste of home, of childhood, calls to Ukus’ regulars. Valmira Raci drives one hour from Brooklyn twice a month to eat the cevapi. She’s been visiting regularly for a decade.
On Wednesday, she was having lunch with her mom and sister, all from Albania. Bektesevic placed salads, two cevapi dishes and a burek on their table.
The cevapi was “very fresh, very, very nice,” Raci said. “My family loves it, especially my mom. She says they have the best meat ever.”
At the table next to them, two kids ate cevapi sandwiches.
“They’re my most annoying customers,” Bektesevic joked, after making sure they washed their hands. “They’re my kids. See, this food here is good enough to feed my kids.”
Dance companies, theater productions and other arts groups said the lost funding complicates shows scheduled for the summer.
The Bushwick venue said in an Instagram post that it was not able to meet a final inspection deadline.

New York
first-generation Mexican immigrant-run eatery that grinds and mills its own corn in the basement for its masa-centric fare
Mayahuel is a family-owned and -operated restaurant in every sense of the phrase
The restaurant was dreamt up by Leonila and Carlos’s sons: Ivan and Marc Vazquez
watching his parents work various jobs after they immigrated from Mexico to New York, landing in Astoria and then moving to Jackson Heights
His parents eventually became the owners of Puebla Seafood
a deli-turned-restaurant which they’ve operated for 26 years
Watching them work seven days a week at a time
Ivan remembers it was their love for hospitality that kept them going.
“My mom used to always say that work was more of a hobby,” he recalls
“[She] didn’t enter the business saying
‘I'm going to make money.’ It's a business of taking care of customers and making sure they leave happy.”
He soon envisioned opening a restaurant of his own
and immediately turned to his family for guidance
“To have somebody that's already been in the game for so many years—they give you more insights,” he says about working with his family
citing that his parents were able to withstand the recession and even the COVID-19 pandemic
“If they could have done it together
just imagine how strong our bond will be.”
And so it was decided—Ivan would oversee the front of the house
fresh out of college with a marketing degree
and his parents would help out in the kitchen
the brothers went back to where it all started
the restaurant debuted the week after Thanksgiving in 2022.
the restaurant stayed within the realms of what they called “general” Mexican cuisine—tacos
Yet the brothers knew they wanted to push themselves further
They received that push with the introduction of executive chef Eduardo Santos
With a global background working in Michelin-starred kitchens in Argentina
chef Santos worked with the family to bring forward a new focus: exploring the coastal cuisine of northern Mexico with a Oaxacan touch.
Part of that vision included making their tortillas in-house. Starting with corn
the brothers tried working with product from America
but quickly noted that there was quite a bit of difference in terms of taste and even smell when compared to the Mexican variety. So they began working with Tamoa
a distributor that sources corn from small farmers around Mexico
Depending on the availability and the fluctuations of the season
depending on where it's farmed,” says Marc
“One of my favorites is red tortillas
because it tastes very volcanic and very salty
even though it doesn’t have any salt
While the blue is sweeter and chewier."
they turned to their mother for the recipe
With memories of making tortillas as a child
she began calling family members and friends back home in Puebla
she stands over stainless steel vats that boil with a mixture of water and calcium hydroxide
the corn is drained and then ground down in their electric molino to make masa
The molino yields 60 lbs masa an hour—making 150 lbs over the course of the week—which then gets portioned into balls
weighed and eventually pressed to make tortillas
It wasn’t a steady process according to Marc
as it took about five months to truly perfect it.
While chef Santos left the business in 2024, chef Gerarde Duerte (previously of La Mano, The Black Ant, and Enrique Olvera’s Michelin-starred ATLA) ushers forward this masa-centric cuisine
chef Duerte uses the tortillas as the base for tostadas plied with chunks of octopus
chile manzano and sweetened tiger's milk and tortillas filled with beer-battered fish and salsa morita
but the chef released a masa-centric dessert menu
sugar-dusted churros and the Oaxacan corn pudding
the family is finding new ways to keep things fresh
showcasing their well-stocked collection of over 100 bottles—the restaurant is named after the goddess of agave
after all—alongside chef Duerte’s corn-centric cuisine. Later this year
the family is planning a trip to Sonora with chef Duarte to further explore and add dishes from his hometown
Among its constant push to solidify its identity
Ivan wants Mayahuel to be known for its food
the hard work his family puts into the cuisine
“I want people to feel like they are home,” he says
“We always want to make sure people feel happy and warm.”

In a response to Tesentzelis's post, the GameStop Help account said: "We are actively investigating this. Any customer who was turned away at the Astoria location should reach out via DM so we can make it right."
The problem is, I'm not sure how GameStop can make this right. One, it will be near enough impossible to verify who was actually at the store. And with Switch 2 stock being in such short supply, it's not like they can easily rectify the situation.
By chance, we visited the Astoria store and found that less than 100 Switch 2 consoles were available before doors opened, with the majority being for the Mario Kart World bundle.

The man whom police shot to death after the NYPD said he approached them with a knife in Astoria on Monday had been cared for by his elderly parents until they died a few years ago
according to a longtime neighbor of the family at NYCHA’s Woodside Houses
“ I really feel bad to hear that this happened to him,” said neighbor Rhonda Ferguson
NYPD officials on Wednesday identified the man as Queens resident King Wong
Officers shot and killed him while he wielded a 14-inch knife that he refused commands to drop
The New York attorney general’s office is investigating the incident
Police responded to 911 calls about a man holding a knife and acting erratically near 30th Avenue and 31st Street
NYPD Chief of Department John Chell said at a press conference Monday
Wong was pronounced dead at a local hospital
Chell said the man had two previous “incidents of mental disorder” involving the NYPD
but police have released no further details
Police have killed at least 20 other New Yorkers during a mental health crisis over the past nine years
said the nonprofit New York Lawyers for the Public Interest
NYPD officers fatally shot at least 12 people citywide last year
according to Gothamist’s analysis of department data
which seeks to reduce police involvement in mental health crises
called for a “public health response” to such crises that includes peers who have their own experiences with mental illness
Ferguson said she believed Wong had mental health issues
but she considered him “harmless,” even after he unexpectedly entered her apartment on two occasions
and that his father would often hand out calendars for Chinese New Year
She said she rarely saw Wong outside the family’s apartment until he was left to fend for himself
Wong was often seen digging through the trash outside the building for food
according to Ferguson and another neighbor
he’d be out early in the morning before it even got light,” Ferguson said
adding that she sometimes shared her own food with him
Wong came into her apartment while she was home alone and he was fiddling with a screwdriver
and I don't know why he’s focusing on my apartment,” Ferguson said
She said she called the building’s maintenance staff and 911
He was ultimately carried out strapped to a stretcher and taken away in an ambulance
It’s unclear what type of services or support Wong received before or after his parents’ deaths
But his situation points to a common predicament of aging parents caring for an adult child with a mental illness: “planning for what happens when they’re no longer here,” said Carolyn Reinach Wolf
a New York lawyer who works with families of people with mental health issues
Reinach Wolf said she often advises parents to establish who the next guardian will be after they die
whether a sibling or someone appointed by court
She added that parents could connect their loved one with local community organizations so they’re “on their radar.”
The city’s B-HEARD program is designed to send emergency medical technicians and social workers
