Don't miss out on any of the action with NFHS Network Here is a photo of the razor blade thin type of close finish of the girls record breaking 4x200 relay at the 2025 Texas A&M Bluebonnet Inv On Friday, the Humble Atascocita girls 4x200 relay picked up where the 2024 Atascocita boys left off in the 4x100 relay - - running into national prominence and breaking state records Their run of 1:33.69 at the Texas A&M Bluebonnet High School Invitational was the third fastest time ever run by a high school team from the same school and the best by a team from Texas. St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale Florida) is the only school to ever run faster than the Atascocita girls; they are the national record holders with their 1:33.43 performance in 2014; they also ran a 1:3.47 in the same season This is just the beginning of the possible assault towards the national record for Atascocita as they aren't finished this season "This is the first time we've been working together on this relay the first time coming out here at a big meet like A&M (Texas A&M Bluebonnet Inv.) to showcase what we really have and show everybody this isn't going to be the last time," Mia Maxwell said "we are not going to get slower," with a laugh We will have to wait and see if the Atascocita girls make the 4x200 relay a cornerstone of the 2025 season the group has multiple individual events to compete in winning a UIL 6A team title gets a little easier with the double relay points they are just allowing the competition like Duncanville They could still just make concerted effort at remaining regular season meets to improve we all have a bond because we've been together so long," and McClennon added "we practice well and push each other in practice so we can get better." Speaking of Shadow Creek Their performance produced the second fastest all-time performance from a Texas team and the fifth fastest all-time run nationally they join Atascocita as the only Lone Star squads to run under 1:34 and 2017 were some of the all-around all-time best teams and were all loaded with talent Shadow Creek is deep with talent and they have a shot at a UIL 6A team championship but they could also be eyeing a national record of their own with their run this past weekend so we knew it was going to come in fast and at the end the day we knew what hard work we've been putting in." Roberson closed hard and came close to catching Atascocita and believes it can happen if they continue to hold one another accountable "I think if we hold each other accountable and we all execute what we all know how to do then we'll be good." Shadow Creek was second overall as team at the 2024 UIL 6A Track and Field Championships and got big relay points that were double point earnings.  They finished second place in both the 4x100 relay and 4x400 relay while coming in third in the 4x200 relay The Sharks' 4x200 relay will have a lot riding on the line and weighing in the balance It could take a national record to give the team state championship That is how good they'll have to be in 2025 and it is a good thing they have the greatest of all-time type of potential Show Breaking News BarCloseLocal NewsJaewon Jung ATASCOCITA, Texas – It’s been three weeks since 29-year-old Alejandro “AJ” Suarez was tragically killed and his sister is shedding light on her late brother Suarez, along with Charity Freeman, 26, was killed in January in Atascocita on Rebawood Drive off Sunny Shores Drive BACKGROUND: No bond for man accused in fatal double shooting of ex-girlfriend and man in Atascocita is facing a capital murder charge after detectives discovered Rivera-Perez and Freeman had recently ended an abusive relationship Freeman’s family said she and Rivera-Perez had dated for a few months before ending things last year Authorities believe Rivera-Perez forced his way into the home shooting and killing both Freeman and Suarez during the same incident “I want him to be remembered as someone who was a man who was dedicated to his family and to his loved ones,” said Alma “This year was going to be the year that he finally got the house that he had been looking for and he was starting that process Alma said AJ and Freeman were casually dating and AJ would often go to Freeman’s house But she said AJ never mentioned Freeman’s previous partners balloons and his favorite beer Dos Equis sitting at his plot “His birthday was about a week after his passing which was devastating for our family,” said Alma Alma hopes AJ’s life is not forgotten and has a message for anyone struggling with domestic violence “I do encourage women to speak up whenever they feel threatened,” said Alma but someone else being my brother got hurt in the process.” According to the Texas Council on Family Violence 205 Texans were killed by an intimate partner or stalker in 2023 and the perpetrators also killed 16 family members If you or someone you know is struggling with domestic violence call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 800-799-7233 According to Harris County District Court documents Rivera-Perez is still in Harris County Jail and has a hearing date set for March 25 Cheeky Monkeys is an indoor playground past Atascocita’s Jaylen Fenner during the first quarter of a Bi-District playoff game at Dobie High School in Houston on Tuesday Dickinson’s David Chong goes up for a shot past Atascocita’s Zayson Salanoa during the second quarter of a Bi-District playoff game at Dobie High School in Houston on Tuesday Dickinson got off to a rough start and never really recovered resulting in an 87-66 drubbing in the first round of the state Class 6A The bi-district loss to Atascocita at Dobie High School left the Gators with a 19-13 mark this season The Eagles improved to 27-4 and will play the winner of the Fort Bend Travis-Pasadena Memorial matchup in the area round of the playoffs Atascocita came out firing and rarely missing going 8-for-15 from the field in the first quarter Dickinson had trouble putting the ball in the hoop not recording its first bucket until the 5:29 mark The Gators only other basket came with a minute left in the period The end result was a 21-5 advantage for the Eagles and they never looked back The Gators had a pretty good night controlling the paint but the Eagles’ accuracy from the perimeter — they nailed 13 treys — was a major part of Dickinson’s downfall “What we did not want to beat us was layups,” Dickinson head coach Jason Wilson said “But they still found a way with hot shooting.” Atascocita shot 33-for-61 from the field on the night a 6-foot-7 forward was a particular thorn in the Gators’ side He led all scorers with 29 points and that total included eight 3-pointers “He’s been shooting it like that all year long,” Wilson said Also scoring in double figures for Atascocita was Jachai Cantave For the Gators’ senior David Chong had a strong second half and he scored 19 of his team leading 21 points after the break Sophomore Troy’Nelle Belle was close behind with 20 points so this will serve as motivation for our offseason in the spring so we’ll learn from it and be back here next year.” Texas – A man is dead after being hit by a train in period on 4/5/25 neighbors of the Meritage development in Atascocita bordering Pinehurst Trail Drive began noticing muddy runoff creeping toward their foundations Aerial photos taken today show that Meritage and its contractors have made some improvements to control runoff since previous storms the attempts did not protect neighbors’ property during this storm most likely because of poor execution and slow construction progress Meritage still has yet to install drainage and silt fence in areas it clearcut early in 2024 Muddy runoff invaded neighbors’ yards Silty water also flooded Pinehurst Trail Drive These failures illustrate the need to complete drainage work faster once land is cleared Meritage is creating the same issues for its neighbors in Atascocita that the Perry Homes Woodridge Village development did with its neighbors in Kingwood For neighbors when construction practices are flawed or incomplete surrounding areas when increases in impervious cover may be insufficiently mitigated Before looking at photos of yesterday’s rain and its aftermath The closest Harris County Flood Control District gage is at West Lake Houston Parkway It received 2.6 inches of rain in a two-hour period on Saturday That’s a one- to two-year rain according to NOAA’s precipitation-frequency estimates for this area See the 2-hour row in Columns 1 and 2 below But the rain did not come close to setting any records construction companies should PLAN on encountering such rainfalls on virtually EVERY project of this scale But yesterday’s experience shows they don’t At least Meritage and its contractor(s) didn’t Meritage broke this project up into two phases on opposite sides of Pinehurst Trail Drive Both sides flooded already earlier this year on February 11. The West Lake Houston Parkway gage received less than a 1-year rain that time A public outcry caused Meritage to step up its efforts to control runoff staked out wattle rolls to help filter runoff and built berms in places to help protect neighbors They also placed sand bags next to storm sewer entrances to help stop sediment before it escaped into storm sewers But photos and video taken after yesterday’s rain also show: The first shows street flooding caused by runoff from Phase II The second shows flooding in the Phase II site itself whose yard flooded badly sent me these shots Here’s how homes along the northern property line of Phase II looked around noon on Sunday I hoped for more – especially from a company whose advertising slogan includes the words “Built Better.” Construction opens a window of vulnerability to flooding Companies should do everything they can to complete drainage work as fast as they can to close that window Meritage builds homes in 11 states.
