'This was a big win': Riley's 8th career multi-HR game powers Braves past LAMay 5th ATLANTA -- made sure the Dodgers exited Atlanta knowing that despite their dominance in this year’s season series they still have reason to keep an eye on the Braves who could spend the following weeks and months reasserting themselves as legit World Series contenders Riley’s second multi-homer game of the young season backed Bryce Elder’s strong start and allowed the Braves to snap a three-game skid with a 4-3 win over the Dodgers on Sunday night at Truist Park The victory prevented Los Angeles from sweeping the six-game season series but this was a big win,” Braves manager Brian Snitker said Riley hit a two-run shot against Dustin May in the first inning and added another against the Dodgers starter in the third The Braves third baseman’s eighth career multihomer game provided an early cushion for Elder who allowed two runs and four hits over five innings Right-handed reliever Daysbel Hernández retired each of the four batters he faced and closer Raisel Iglesias notched three strikeouts including two with the tying run at third base the Braves exited this series feeling much better than they did when they exited Dodger Stadium on April 2 having just opened the season with a seventh straight loss They have gone 15-11 since then and they have won 10 of their past 15 games “I think this is a really good ballclub here,” Riley said “We’ve shown it at times and we’ve struggled at times But this is something to build off of to get that confidence that we can compete with the best.” Asked before the game about the Dodgers’ great depth Snitker pointed out the defending World Series champions also get great production from their collection of stars Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman might be the game’s top trio and cleanup hitter Teoscar Hernández ranks among the league leaders with nine homers is activated from the injured list near the end of this month Marcell Ozuna and Matt Olson to give Atlanta its own high-quality quartet Acuña was the 2023 National League MVP and Olson hit 54 homers that same year Ozuna ranks among the game’s top 10 players in OPS since the start of 2023 And Riley was bidding for a fourth straight 30-homer season before his 2024 season ended with a fractured hand suffered in August Riley has traditionally been a slow starter He spent this season’s first month swinging and missing more frequently than he has in the past The 31.7 percent strikeout rate he carried into Sunday was noticeably higher than the 24-25 percent rates he produced over the past few seasons Riley finds himself having hit .292 with eight homers and a .847 OPS through 33 games when he ended the 0-7 season-opening road trip having gone 3-for-27 with 11 strikeouts He has hit .336 with a .949 OPS in the 26 games that have followed this has been one of the better starts to my career,” Riley said Riley hit a career-high 38 home runs in 2022 and he followed that with 37 homers the following season Could he finally reach the 40-homer mark this year he ‘s currently on pace to hit 39 homers and this is around the time he has often started to get hot Sign up to receive our daily Morning Lineup to stay in the know about the latest trending topics around Major League Baseball Even though he missed most of May last year with a sore oblique he still has homered once every 15.5 at-bats in the season’s second month he’s just a few days into what has traditionally been a good month a month during which he has homered once every 12.7 at-bats “When he’s using that gap-to-gap approach like that “We know what he can do when he gets hot.” Cincinnati is bringing a formidable rotation to Atlanta and the Braves will have no choice but to try to figure them out over the next four days The current homestand for the Atlanta Braves rolls on, as they’re going straight from a three-game series against the Dodgers into a four-game series against the Cincinnati Reds While the quality of competition may be a bit lower this still figures to be a pretty tricky matchup for the Braves over these next four games The Reds are entering this series with an 18-17 record and as their record suggests They just got done dropping a three-game series at home against the Nationals and that was after they split four games with the Cardinals So they’re starting this road trip with a bit of a sour taste in their mouths following a rough 3-4 homestand Cincinnati’s strength is clearly their pitching and their rotation in particular has been carrying them so far Cincinnati’s rotation is sporting an ERA of 3.65 (with an ERA- of 83) and a FIP of 3.89 (92 in FIP-) their ERA- is top-5 and their FIP- is top-10 which isn’t exactly what you’d like to see when you’re heading into a four-game series since that means you’re going to see nearly everything that this rotation has to offer Cincinnati’s bullpen hasn’t exactly been dominant (their good ERA numbers seem to be betrayed by their rough-looking FIP numbers) and their offense has been mediocre at best the guy to watch out for whenever it comes to the Reds is Elly De La Cruz and while he hasn’t exactly put up many eye-popping numbers so far he’s still proven to be dangerous if he can put the ball in play which is one behind Oneil Cruz for the NL lead and two behind Luis Robert Jr Gavin Lux and Jose Trevino have been providing much of the production for the Reds so far This isn’t exactly a murderer’s row but it’s still a lineup that should be taken seriously If they can muster up enough offense to support their rotation then this could potentially be a long week at the office for the Braves AJ Smith-Shawver is getting another chance in the rotation after he made three starts as part of the Opening Day rotation His return saw him pick up where he left off as he got into the sixth inning while only giving up two runs runs against Colorado it’s the Rockies” but he also went five innings while only giving up two runs against the Rays With the Braves currently looking for anybody to step up in order to help consolidate their rotation this is an opportunity for Smith-Shawver to lock down a spot in this rotation by stepping his game up He’s been missing a lot of bats but he’s also got to get that walk rate down if he wants to continue getting better It’ll be very intriguing to see if AJSS can continue to make strides towards improving Brady Singer hasn’t been dominant so far this season but he also hasn’t been bad by any stretch of the imagination His past couple of starts have seen him perform pretty effectively — he only gave up one run over six innings against the Cardinals in his last outing and that was after he pitched another strong six innings against the Marlins where he only gave up two runs and struck out eight batters he had a three-start run where he gave up five This could be a case of him taking some time to find his groove or it could be an instance of Singer simply having up-and-down form Hopefully Atlanta will be able to catch him on a down note on Monday evening You’d think that Chris Sale’s performance during his most recent start on April 30 would’ve been cause for celebration this was clearly Sale’s best start of the season so far — one where he went seven innings while only giving up two runs and striking out 10 batters along the way even finally putting a strong outing together still wasn’t enough to alleviate the frustration for Sale as he ended up being an unlucky loser in a 2-1 loss to the Rockies That’s just how the season has been going for Chris Sale The clear hope now is that Sale will be able to make it two good starts in a row — and this time he’ll hopefully get the run support that a great start deserves He famously gutted through a tough five-inning start against the Reds this past September that saw him deal with back spasms that would ultimately cost him the end of Atlanta’s regular season and their postseason appearance as well While Sale pitched just fine in that game in Cincinnati last season he’ll be looking to show the Reds what he’s really capable of while healthy The one thing that sticks out to me here is Abbott’s low ERA numbers he’s given up one run or less in three of the four starts he’s made so far He’s only gotten reasonably deep into one of those starts which was back on April 18 when he struck out 11 Orioles batters while only giving up two hits and one walk he’s had a hard time making it past the fourth inning It’s pretty clear that Abbott may be here for a good time but not a long time in terms of innings Holmes should have plenty of confidence coming into this one While he did give up two runs against the Dodgers it took them over the course of six innings to put that number on the board against Holmes and that was a huge improvement over his first start against LA He wasn’t dominant but he was able to keep the Braves in this game as they were struggling against the actually-dominant Yoshinobu Yamamoto He gave the Braves exactly what they needed and that’s all you can ask of him going forward Considering who Holmes will be facing on the opposite side he might need to pull out another special performance on Wednesday the Braves are going to have to deal with one of the top starters in baseball at the moment Hunter Greene has gotten off to a very good start here in 2025 His last start was proof positive of just how well things are going for Greene so far as he tossed six innings where he only gave up one run while striking out 12 batters and only walking two and giving up two hits in the process He’s got an incredibly effective four-seamer and a slider that is probably going to keep Braves batters up at night as they try to figure out what to do with it They certainly couldn’t figure him out last season as he pitched seven shutout innings wile striking out seven batters in Cobb County last year This was after he struck out 10 Braves batters when he saw them in 2023 Any type of breakthrough against Greene would be fantastic for Atlanta It’s safe to say that Schwellenbach has come back down to Earth over the course of his most recent starts He had a rough outing against the Diamondbacks back on April 27 and things got even worse when he saw the Dodgers in his most recent outing we’re a long way away from what he was doing in his first two starts of the season Let’s all hope that Schwellenbach will be able to reclaim what was helping him find a ton of success to start the season he’ll be looking to pick up where he left off against the Reds last season which is when he went six innings and only gave up one run off of five hits and two walks The Braves could sure use a start like that now and Spencer Schwellenbach would definitely benefit from returning to form in that manner Lodolo’s had a bit of a “boom-or-bust” season so far and his past two starts were a prime example of that Lodolo pitched seven shutout innings with nine strikeouts Lodolo followed this up on May 3 with a performance that saw him make it into the sixth inning while giving up seven runs (six earned) on 10 hits and two walks He has three separate starts this season where he’s given up zero earned runs but he also has three starts where he’s given up at least three runs This’ll be a pretty interesting matchup since Nick Lodo has no experience pitching against the Braves the only Braves hitter he’s faced is Alex Verdugo and that lasted all of three at-bats So we’ll have to see if the Braves can figure out Lodolo and his nasty changeup and cureveball combination where we call on a local expert to share the best versions of one of their city’s most iconic foods With all love and respect to the perfect summer Tash is an “intuitive life strategist.” I have no idea what the hell that means and I truly don’t care as long as she does the one job of any occultist who appears on a Bravo show: start some bullshit Prophet Tash is no Alison from RHOBH or Scott from RHOC immediately getting to work reading the ladies’ energy She tells Brit to focus on her business and encourages Kelli to embrace her fresh start post-divorce (the amount of blow-job style shots she did that night shows she took her reading to heart) but things start to get really messy when she advises Angela to keep the sexy alive in her marriage Prophet Tash asks if Charles has his eye on a Porsche asking the prophet to clarify if he has his eyes on a Porsche or a Porsha Porsha arrives at Lake Bailey with Drew following close behind (Drew insisting to be read in private made me chuckle; she is too dramatic) With the whole group convened in Cynthia’s iconic living room saying the prophet was spot on with her readings While Angela understandably entered the scene on the defense it’s once again Brit whose defensiveness is incongruous with the situation When Angela asks why the energy is on ten regarding her reading The spirit of Bailey-ques past living inside Cynthia’s couches possesses the women triggering a back and forth between a reactive Brit and an always quick-on-her-feet Angela leading to Angela joking about Brit’s “big ass mouth with the stretch marks” before saying there’s miles on it Whether this was a jab at the illicit pictures Things get so bad — the baby rumor comes flying out of Brit’s mouth with a loud-ass Kelli hilariously parroting it as if no one heard — that referee Cynthia shuts down the conversation with a random trivia contest about Juneteenth but I appreciate her commitment to Black history After Cynthia’s attempt at an educational moment and she drags Angela into a separate room so she can hold court to hash out her grievances with Porsha and Shamea covering her ass despite Angela holding her feet to the fire They give each other passive-aggressive apologies Angela holds Shamea accountable for sitting and giggling while Porsha disparages Charles Shamea shows the side of her that makes her such good friends with Porsha and tries to play her involvement off as a joke We end with a mid-season trailer teasing Phaedra’s return the demise of Shamea and Porsha’s relationship and a feud between Brit and Kelli … it doesn’t take a prophet to see season sixteen has a lot more in store for us • Sometimes I wonder if Dennis and Porsha are actually a match made in heaven They have the same knack for spinning the truth — Dennis saying he just happened to be at the studio when Drew arrived with cameras let in the crew so they can film Drew walking through the door I’m happy she came to the conclusion that she had a baby with a wanna-be Househusband because I have a feeling they’ll be doing this dance for a long time • Although tonight Charles was nonchalant about being brought into the drama And what a trailer that was — I’m feeling confident that these early-season hiccups are leading us somewhere great and it looks like Porsha might finally lean into her villain era as she films with Ralph By submitting your email, you agree to our Terms and Privacy Notice and to receive email correspondence from us Password must be at least 8 characters and contain: you’ll receive occasional updates and offers from New York John Gil had the offensive breakout we’ve been waiting to see from him during a slow April while JR Ritchie and Rayven Antonio both had excellent starts on Sunday Sunday was a fun day for the Atlanta Braves system Four wins in five games as John Gil broke out in a big way to nearly raise his OPS by 100 points We also saw excellent starts from JR Ritchie while Patrick Clohisy and EJ Exposito stayed hot and the prospect loaded Augusta lineup all got in on the action Box Score Statcast Jose Suarez followed up four shutout innings in his first start since demotion with another four shutout innings on Sunday Suarez allowed three hits and a pair of walks while striking out six batters as he has been lights out ever since coming down from the big leagues Suarez was followed by a scoreless frame from Dylan Dodd before Michael Petersen allowed two runs during his inning of work The final three innings saw Domingo Gonzalez and Dylan Covey sandwich shutout innings around Jordan Weems giving up a run during his inning The standouts at the plate were Garrett Cooper and Eddys Leonard each of whom went two for four with a double and run scored with Cooper picking up a pair of runs batted in Cooper also recorded an impressive 108.5 MPH exit velocity in this game Conner Capel also had a two-hit game and recorded an RBI in the win while Jarred Kelenic added a double and run scored from his leadoff spot in the lineup Box Score The lone loss in the system on Sunday was Columbus. Didier Fuentes was on the mound and unfortunately didn’t have his best stuff in this one. That total including a two-run homer to Brewers slugger prospect Brock Wilken in the third inning Jorge Juan followed and didn’t allow any hits or runs over his two innings Then Hayden Harris came in for an inning and didn’t allow any hits while walking one and striking out a pair This brings Harris up to a video game stat line through his first 11 innings on the season A scoreless inning from Jonathan Hughes finished off the pitching side of things in this game Despite only scoring one run the Columbus offense had some success on Sunday and Keshawn Ogans all had two-hit games out of the one with Ogans recording a double in the process but drew two walks and picked up an RBI through a sac fly Cade Bunnell and Chandler Seagle also reached base multiple times in the loss The reason the Clingstones only tallied one run is the fact they were one for nine with runners in scoring position Box Score The first game of the double header was over in a hurry as Rome tacked on five runs in the first and never looked back That meant a fairly stress free day for JR Ritchie allowing just one unearned run on five hits and no walks with six strikeouts and dropped his ERA to 1.65 through his first six starts Ritchie is establishing himself as back to being full strength from the injury he suffered right as he was starting to break out in early 2023 Giomar Diaz followed with an inning and a third scoreless that included two strikeouts and Austin Smith pitched the final inning without allowing a run to come in Patrick Clohisy got the scoring started in the first inning with a two-run homer which ended up being all of the offense Rome needed to get this win Clohisy added a walk and scored another run in this game and couldn’t be any hotter through this being his tenth game of the season with a 1.165 OPS Lizandro Espinoza and Dylan Shockley each added two-hit games while Bryson Horne singled and walked to also reach base twice in the win Clohisy was joined by Shockley and Will Verdung among the hitters who recorded a pair of runs batted in during the first game of the day Box Score The second game of the doubleheader saw a bullpen game that ended in a shutout for Rome Samuel Strickland started and lasted one inning before Cory Wall went two innings and picked up the win Tyler LaPorte and LJ McDonough each went an inning and Isaac Gallegos picked up the save with a two inning stint to finish this one off Combined the five pitchers went seven scoreless innings allowing six hits and two walks with two strikeouts After being a big factor in the first game of the day Patrick Clohisy continued to be a big factor for the Rome offense in the second game Clohisy was two for four with a run scored and two stolen bases bringing him to three for seven with a homer With his three for three game on Friday included he has seen his slash line move from .225/.364/.313 to .267/.396/.389 over the weekend Titus Dumitru was also a big factor in the win and responsible for both runs Rome scored as he scored one and batted the other in Dumitru was finished the day three for six with a triple while Will Verdung doubled and picked up an RBI - giving him a total of three on the day between both games Box Score Rayven Antonio got the ball and turned in a dominant outing pitching five scoreless innings on four hits and a walk with five strikeouts Antonio needed just 62 pitches to get through five Antonio has been spectacular over his last three starts allowing just one earned run between the three appearances Luis Arestigueta was next and he allowed a run on three hits and a walk over three innings of relief before David Rodriguez pitched a scoreless frame that included a pair of strikeouts This game is going to be known as the John Gil breakout game Gil came in hitting .209/.311/.253 on the year and raised his OPS by 92 points to .240/.333/.323 and scored three runs during a four for five afternoon Gil was hardly the only Jacket to have a big day as the first seven guys in the lineup all reached base multiple times in the win Owen Carey had the second most notable game here as he was three for five with a run and a pair of RBI Isaiah Drake was two for five with an RBI and stole a pair of bases Eric Hartman was two for five with a triple Colby Jones drew a pair of walks and stole two bases Nick Montgomery was two for four with a walk Augusta combined for 14 base hits and four walks which makes it crazy to realize this was a 2-1 game heading into the ninth inning the idea of nearly seven miles of contiguous Atlanta Beltline trail has seemed like a pipe dream since today’s high schoolers were in diapers As the latest Beltline construction update illustrates the Westside Trail’s Segment 4 is quickly pouring concrete and installing necessary infrastructure It's on track to open sometime before the second quarter of 2025 concludes at the end of next month The 1.3-mile segment in question runs north to south with views to landmarks such as Mercedes-Benz Stadium (especially in winter) over the roofs and treetops Part of it was opened last fall restricting off-street travel across a multitude of Westside and Southwest Atlanta neighborhoods.  Once that missing link opens in coming weeks, the Westside Trail will connect Washington Park up to Bankhead and Historic Westin Heights. It will also create the longest Beltline section to date—6.5 miles—in conjunction with the rest of the Westside Trail, the connector trail that shoots out of downtown and the Southside Trail’s first finished segment That means you’ll be able to board a bike or scooter or electric skateboard downtown and whip all the way around to Pittsburgh Yards—and vice versa—while on Beltline pathways removed from busy streets.  Segment 4’s mainline trail now has its concrete in place while work continues on connections to roads in adjacent neighborhoods Landscaping along Segment 4 will begin in the cooler fall months.  Beltline leadership has called the section in question complex with its new bridges and other elevated structures vertical connections to neighborhood streets alongside storm drainage and management systems with green infrastructure Segment 4 is being built by Astra Group, a Woodstock-based general contracting firm with experience building other sections of the loop and the lovely Rodney Cook Sr. Park in Vine City Beltline officials forecasted the full Segment 4 would deliver this summer Twitter / Facebook/and now: Instagram   • Beltline news, discussion (Urbanize Atlanta) Which version of the 2025 Atlanta Braves is the real version of the 2025 Atlanta Braves The first few weeks of the season were quite a journey ended more or less where it began -- at the beginning Then Opening Day arrived, with the Braves starting off on a tough seven-game road trip against the San Diego Padres and Dodgers scoring no runs or one run in four of those defeats That is not the way to knock the Dodgers off the mountaintop the old adage about early-season baseball has always been that you can't win the pennant in April In becoming the 30th team since 1901 to begin a season with seven straight losses the Braves flirted with some discouraging history the Braves' April story was as much defined by how they eventually responded to that early slump Atlanta continued to flounder into the middle of the month The Braves haven't yet reached the .500 mark this season but it seems inevitable they soon will -- and they already pushed their run differential out of negative territory Atlanta can at least exhale after the initial stumbles To sum it up: Atlanta entered the campaign anointed as the Dodgers' prime challenger -- 2025 Braves version 1 They proceeded to put up one of the 30 worst starts in 125 years -- 2025 Braves version 2 they'd already climbed back to break-even (or thereabouts) which resets their near-disastrous season -- 2025 Braves version 3 Three very different versions of the same team Which leads back to our initial question: Which Braves are the real Braves As mentioned, the Braves are now one of 30 teams to begin a season 0-7, and it's the fifth time a Braves club has appeared on that list, joining 1919, 1980, 1988 and 2016. That ties the Detroit Tigers for the most of any franchise a start that bad and that prolonged rings the death knell in terms of pennant contention None of the first 29 teams on the list made the playoffs and none of the 29 ended with a positive run differential if the Braves complete their rapid climb back to .500 and keep that run differential in the black they will have already subverted every other team on the 0-7 list because the 2025 Braves are way better than those other 29 teams The Braves became the 30th MLB team since 1901 to start 0-7 Here's how the other teams with 0-7 starts have fared so far this century among the various team measures I have are three-year power ratings used to identify how strong (or not strong) teams were in multiseason windows If we use Atlanta's season-opening over/under figure as a proxy for their 2025 level we can estimate their three-year power rating at 95.6 (or 95.6 wins per 162 games) Only two of the other 29 teams on the 0-7 list had three-year power ratings of 81 or better -- the 1945 Boston Red Sox and the 1983 Astros but it was a special case because of the sudden change in rosters across baseball tracing to players returning from military service The 1945 Red Sox did not have Ted Williams A very different case than the 2025 Braves The 1983 Astros were more akin to these Braves and were one of the two 0-7 starters that climbed back over .500 by the end of the season who finished 81-80 while being outscored by 30 runs.) Houston ended up 85-77 after its terrible start which actually stretched to nine straight season-opening losses The Astros finished three runs in the red in differential more than 14 wins shy of the current Braves the Braves were the most likely of them to bounce back from such a terrible beginning They spent the last half of April proving that to be the case We've already noted how anemic the Braves' offense was during their opening road trip Atlanta averaged just two runs per game and batted .151 as a team during the skid The Braves' collective team OPS (.485) was the worst in baseball It took a while, but the Braves' bats have heated up. Heading into their series with the Dodgers, Atlanta had scored 4.9 runs per game (10th in MLB) and posted a .779 OPS (fifth) since their slump. They've done this even as they continue to wait on Ronald Acuna Jr.'s season debut after last year's knee surgery but the Braves very much need their big two to become a big three because of what looks like a lack of high-quality rotation depth after getting just one start out of Spencer Strider over the season's first few weeks they need him to get healthy and stay that way Strider (Grade 1 hamstring strain) is expected to return later this month In the bullpen, the Braves have been so-so, mostly because of the struggles of star closer Raisel Iglesias to keep the ball in the yard After surrendering just four long balls in all of 2024 Iglesias coughed up five homers in his first 11 outings the Braves' bounce-back has been more warm than boiling But the recovery has been undergirded by pretty strong indicators Atlanta's run differential during the recent 14-9 stretch is equivalent to a 94-win team over a full season putting the Braves on par with preseason expectations during that span The other problem is that the National League is full of really good teams Let's say they maintain the 94-win quality they reached during their recovery over their remaining 132 games which gets Atlanta to 90 or 91 wins by the end of the season If all the teams in the NL were to maintain their current paces (which is admittedly unlikely), there would be five teams that finished with 96 wins or more -- the Mets, Dodgers, Padres, Chicago Cubs and San Francisco Giants Is your favorite franchise boiling hot or below freezing We take the temperature of every club with a brand-new number Bradford Doolittle » You can see the Braves' dilemma: Only one playoff slot would be up for grabs. If Atlanta is able to get to 90 or 91 wins, it would be in the mix, but would need to hope that neither Philadelphia nor the Arizona Diamondbacks (both on pace for 88 wins) catch fire the Braves are making the playoffs in about 70% of simulations as their model sees the NL East contenders as better than the non-Dodgers contenders in the NL West Baseball Prospectus has the Braves getting to 92 wins but reaching the playoffs just 54% of the time the Braves' over/under for wins has fallen to 88.5 the same as Arizona but less than the Mets (94.5) along with the strength of the top of the NL have reduced their margin of error considerably or these key upcoming weeks before Strider and Acuna rejoin the team the Braves are currently a middle-of-the-pack team at the bottom line both in the win-loss column and by run differential If they continue at this level while waiting for their stars to return the strong upper tier of the NL could move away from them beginning with the current series against the Dodgers April is almost over and you may not want to trust the hot starts from players like Boston's Alex Bregman and if you're still thinking of the Nats as pushovers and a key three-game set on the road against the Phillies but especially for one missing two of its biggest stars The Braves have mostly righted their teetering ship after their stunning start they've been what we thought they would be players find their level and the roster gets healthier The real Braves weren't the team that started 0-7 They might be the team that's played much better since in what's shaping up as a crowded and strong upper tier in the NL playoff hierarchy they have to hope that even if they maintain their expected level it proves to be good enough for another trip to October Precision Track Days brings you the results of this weekend’s events Revving Up the Track Day Experience with Precision Track Day! As The Athletic’s Josh Kendall pointed out and Rich Hill NFL Draft trade value charts Atlanta gave up the equivalent of a mid-first-round pick to trade back into the first round ESPN’s Kevin Clark called it “awful” and “reckless.” Kendall states the NFL is “collectively wondering ‘what the heck is going on in Flowery Branch?’” as the Falcons continue to beat to the tune of their own drum when they are on the clock Everyone is finding this trade baffling and ultimately inexcusable The Athletic’s Austin Mock put together an analytics-based grading system to help grade the 2025 NFL draft on a basis free of outside interference This grading system doesn’t know the prospects aside from the dollar value given to the slot they were chosen in and their spot on The Athletic’s consensus big board When given this criterion, five teams were given A-grades or better. The Cleveland Browns, the New York Giants, the Tennessee Titans, the Carolina Panthers the Falcons and their bets on building their edge room and their secondary shot them up to one of the five best grades in this year’s draft who questioned the results in his write-up our formula saw their controversial trade back into the first round for James Pearce Jr as giving up the equivalent of a late first-rounder It starts with their selection of Jalon Walker who plays a premium position and was drafted below consensus I can’t get over how “same-y” they appear to be with each playing the same position and weighing less than 250 pounds I have concerns about how those players will fit together into the same scheme outside of passing situations I’m no mathematician and don’t pretend to be one but Jay-Z had a line on his song “Reminder” from his 2009 album The Blueprint 3 that may fit well here: “Men lie This draft may also give Atlanta a chance to remind the league that playing by your own rules can yield as much success as following consensus The 24,000-square-foot Concourse D Club seats over 500 guests more than any other Delta Sky Club in Atlanta The Delta Sky Club network proudly welcomes its long-awaited eighth location at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport – Concourse D-Center Point ATL serves over 100 million customers a year inspired by the city’s Southern hospitality and urban elegance is the second largest in ATL and seats the most guests—506 to be exact The addition of this Club further elevates Delta's ability to serve the Atlanta market enhancing the customer experience with unmatched comfort and convenience.  The 24,000-plus-square-foot Club boasts panoramic airfield views and amenities for every type of traveler and includes a theater-style media wall 16-seat bar and sound-proof telephone booths for focused work The space is also equipped with a large food buffet and two beverage stations.  Atlanta is more than just a hub—it's our home This new space is thoughtfully designed to ensure that guests traveling through Atlanta feel the Southern hospitality of the city we know and love,” said Claude Roussel “The opening of our newest Delta Sky Club in Atlanta – during what happens to be both Delta and ATL’s Centennial year – is a testament to our unwavering commitment to this city and the customers we serve here.”  Design elements in the Club reflect Atlanta’s southern charm and city flair shutter screens and coffered ceilings pay homage to Southern architecture and décor while funky light fixtures and gleaming metallics embody the city’s sophistication and style.  Artwork in the Club gives guests a gallery-going experience and many of the pieces are inspired by Southern emblems and created by artists local to Atlanta Behind the food buffet is a custom tile mural of greenery – reminiscent of Atlanta’s nickname the “City in a Forest.” Atlanta-based muralist created the soaring mural guests will see as they embark on the elevator – note the magnolias and dogwoods in the piece Photographs by Pam Moxley feature soft and dreamlike sepia-toned photographs that evoke southern summers and nostalgia.    This state-of-the-art Club is part of Delta's ongoing commitment to enhancing the travel experience for our customers traveling through Atlanta; learning what this thing is all about and how to make adjustments and how to get through adversities He’s just experiencing some rough sledding.” Schwellenbach experienced his first big league Spring Training this year and he’s just a month into what would be his first full season as a Major Leaguer including the one presented to him Saturday six-minute rain delay before throwing the game’s first pitch at 10:21 p.m Schwellenbach walked off the mound with a disgusted look on his face He allowed six runs and eight hits over a career-low 3 2/3 innings This marked the third time he has surrendered a career-high six runs Two of those three occasions have occurred within his past four starts “I think the biggest thing is I’m just not hitting spots like I’m used to,” Schwellenbach said Or if it’s a two-strike count and I’ve got to bury the slider There’s a good chance this is just a rough stretch for a relatively inexperienced young pitcher But the timing hasn’t been great for the Braves who have lost three straight since pulling within one game of .500 by winning nine of 11 Chris Sale has turned things around in his past two starts but Atlanta’s injury-depleted rotation is without both Spencer Strider (right hamstring strain) and Reynaldo López (right shoulder inflammation) Schwellenbach appeared primed to continue stabilizing the rotation when he allowed just one run over his first three starts (20 innings) of this season He exited his April 10 start against the Phillies with a 2.94 ERA through his first 24 career starts But the 24-year-old hurler has posted a 7.17 ERA in his past four starts He has allowed at least six hits in each of these outings This is something he did in just seven of 21 outings last year like the infield single from Teoscar Hernández that Braves left-handed reliever Aaron Bummer fumbled before airmailing a throw to catcher Sean Murphy in the Dodgers’ four-run fourth This allowed Freddie Freeman to score the last of the runs charged to Schwellenbach But there wasn’t anything fluky about the Dodgers’ production against Schwellenbach Nine of the balls they put in play against the Braves hurler had an exit velocity of at least 99 mph Opponents have put at least seven balls in play at 99-plus mph in each of Schwellenbach’s past four starts This occurred in just four of the hurler’s first 24 starts “The biggest thing is how you’re going to respond,” Schwellenbach said “I feel like I come in here every day with a positive attitude and a smile on my face Schwellenbach spent last year becoming one of nine pitchers since 1995 to post a 3.35 ERA or better over 20-plus starts during a debut season that was preceded by the pitcher totaling 110 innings or fewer in the Minors Paul Skenes (2024) and Alek Manoah (‘21) were the only other members of this list who hadn’t had previous international professional experience But to understand Schwellenbach’s inexperience it must be remembered he didn’t pitch at the college level until ‘21 when he served as the University of Nebraska’s shortstop and closer The Braves drafted him that year knowing he would miss ‘22 while recovering from Tommy John surgery Schwellenbach introduced himself to a starting role in 2023 and made just two starts above the High-A level before making his MLB debut last year Strack Racing’s Mathew Scholtz pulled away from the MotoAmerica Supersport stunning bluefin tuna sat atop a pedestal Its glassy eyes glistened in the natural light from the windows I went to my first tuna cutting at O by Brush, the one-Michelin-starred omakase option at Brush Sushi in Buckhead As a handful of us took our seats around the fresh fish brought in from Mexico chef Jason Liang picked up one of several knives (he also has a saw) and began slicing and then came the segments of fatty back (sekam) The muscles in a tuna’s forehead (noten) are one of the rarest cuts on the fish Liang explained as he pulled two beautiful segments from the head that looked like tenderloin I could feel my own forehead tingle as he did this He said this chef’s cut was highly prized for its muscle-to-fat ratio Served beautifully as nigiri with a touch of fresh wasabi I couldn’t believe how it melted in my mouth The kids seated at the omakase counter were the unlikely diners who left no crumbs a couple and their two kids who had just turned 17 and 18 Liang let the earlier this year Liang hacked at segments of tuna spine and scooped delicate jelly into shot glasses topped with a ponzu sauce and green onions Tuna spinal jelly is also rare and tastes like the Saturday night’s scheduled game between the Atlanta Braves and the Los Angeles Dodgers began on Saturday and ended on Sunday Those who stayed for the game were on their way home past 1:30 a.m Braves right-hander Spencer Schwellenbach was set to face Dodgers Japanese sensation Roki Sasaki at 7:15 p.m. but severe storms soaked Truist Park on Saturday night All of metro Atlanta was under a severe thunderstorm watch until 11 p.m The Braves (14-18) ultimately lost to the Dodgers losing the series and all five games played against Los Angeles up to this point this season The series finale will air on ESPN at 7:15 p.m Patrick Clohisy was one of the lone bright spots in a rough night for the organization Box Score It was a rough loss for the Stripers on Star Wars Night as the game was called due to rain without the Stripers getting a chance in the bottom of the ninth was OK as he navigated through three innings of work but walking four He game out of the game in the fourth with the game tied 1-1 Enoli Paredes would come in and add two great innings as he struck out four and the game entered the sixth inning still tied 1-1 Wander Suero would eventually give up a run in the top sixth and Craig Kimbrel would give up an unearned run in the 9th (throwing error by James McCann) and the Stripers offense would be down two runs going into the bottom of the ninth but as stated above the game would be called There’s not much to talk offensively as the Stripers offense would strand 10 on base and going 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position Box Score Very disappointing loss for the Clingstones who were winning 5-1 entering the 8th inning Adam Zebrowski got the game going with a first inning three run homer They would tack on another run in the second inning from a Cody Milligan fielders choice making it 4-0 They would be humming right along as Landon Harper pitched four one-run innings and Luis Vargas would come in the fifth and work two spotless innings striking out three The Shuckers had just four hits through the games first seven innings and then disaster struck Shay Schanaman would give up three straight innings and then a bases loaded walk making it 5-2 Rolddy Muñoz would come into the game and walk in a run himself and a single before retiring the first hitter of the inning - a line out that tied the game 5-5 The next hitter would then clear the bases with a one out three-run homers giving the visitors an 8-5 lead The Clingstones would get a pair of runners on and bring the game tying run to the plate in the bottom of the 8th but David McCabe would end the threat with a strikeout and ending the potential momentum Rolddy would flirt with disaster again but would strand runners on second and third to maintain the deficit at three Box Score This game was a continuation of last night that was delayed due to rain and it was a tale of two pitchers Herick Hernandez and his struggles to start the season continued as the pitcher walked three and gave up four hits across 4.1 innings of work His ERA now stands at 5.89 and after an unreal start to his professional career last year (2 starts - 2.70 ERA the same can not be said for this season as he’s allowed opponents to hit .254 on the season now which has resulted in a WHIP of 1.53 continued his very strong 2025 season with 4.1 more innings of run-less baseball and has now held teams hitless over his last three appearances (13.1 innings) Unfortunately for Riley the offense couldn’t get on track across two days and were held to just one run If it wasn’t for Patrick Clohisy this game would have been even more lopsided as the centerfielder went 3-for-3 with a walk the only run scored came back in the bottom of the first inning Box Score There was a lengthly rain delay that caused first pitch to be moved back hours and resulted in Rayven Antonio being scrapped as started and Jacob Gomez taking the spot start giving up just one unearned run across three innings of work but he did walk four The bullpen game was successful for the first six innings as the GreenJackets trailed 3-1 through 6 innings The GreenJackets scraped across a run in the top of the seventh thanks to a bases loaded walk by John Gil and made it 3-2 With the bases still loaded and 0 outs but then Colby Jones and Eric Hartman both struck out while Nick Montgomery popped up to end the threat and let the Cannon Ballers off The Cannon Ballers then got that run back in the bottom half of the inning and then broke out for seven runs in the 8th against GreenJackets pitchers Albert Rivas and Jake Steels - handing the win to the Cannon Ballers and leaving the GreenJackets wondering what exactly just happened Box Score Complex ball got started today and the eagerly awaited 2025 debut for a few of the Braves top prospects began and for the most part it was a solid success Jose Perdomo went 1-for-3 and picked up a pair of walks but then the season ramps up starting Monday of next week (Atlanta News First) - Disclosure Gambling Problem? Call 1-800-Gambler The vet made an impact despite infrequent minutes Larry Nance Jr.’s 2024–25 season with the Atlanta Hawks showcased his adaptability Acquired in a significant trade that sent Dejounte Murray to the New Orleans Pelicans became a pivotal part of the Hawks’ roster transformation Nance brought a wealth of experience and professionalism to a young Hawks team team-first culture Atlanta aimed to cultivate Even during stretches when he was out of the rotation guiding younger teammates and maintaining a positive locker room presence His contributions were recognized when he received the Jason Collier Memorial Award honoring his commitment to the team both on and off the court One of Nance’s most notable contributions was his ability to stretch the floor from the center position a skill set the Hawks had lacked in recent years Shooting an impressive 44.7% from beyond the arc pulling opposing big men away from the paint and opening driving lanes for guards like Trae Young and Dyson Daniels This shooting prowess was particularly effective when Nance shared the floor with forwards Jalen Johnson and Zaccharie Risacher creating a dynamic offensive trio that challenged defenses. Nance’s basketball intelligence was evident in his seamless integration into the Hawks’ offense which emphasized quick decision-making and ball movement and set effective screens facilitated the team’s “0.5-second” decision-making philosophy This approach mirrored the offensive style of fellow big man Onyeka Okongwu allowing for a cohesive frontcourt rotation that maintained offensive fluidity regardless of personnel changes. Defensive Reliability Amid Mobility Challenges leveraging his experience and positioning to compensate for any decline in lateral quickness While he faced challenges guarding more agile opponents his understanding of team defensive schemes and ability to communicate effectively helped anchor the Hawks’ defense during his minutes on the court His professionalism ensured that he remained a dependable defensive contributor. Nance averaged 4.3 rebounds per game over 24 appearances with a notable 3.3 coming on the defensive end While these numbers reflected a slight dip from earlier in his career his commitment to boxing out and securing crucial boards remained evident His physicality and effort in the paint continued to be assets particularly in matchups requiring toughness and physicality. Impactful Partnerships and Offensive Rating Statistical analyses highlighted Nance’s positive impact when sharing the floor with Jalen Johnson and Zaccharie Risacher The trio’s combined offensive rating surpassed the team’s average indicating a synergistic effect that enhanced overall performance Their complementary skill sets — Nance’s spacing and Risacher’s shooting — created a versatile and potent offensive unit that challenged opposing defenses. granting them the ability to exceed the salary cap to re-sign him Given his contributions both on and off the court retaining Nance could be instrumental in maintaining the team’s cultural and strategic continuity positions him as a valuable asset for a team aiming to develop its young core while remaining competitive. Larry Nance Jr.’s 2024–25 season with the Atlanta Hawks underscored his role as a consummate professional he provided stability and guidance during a transitional period for the franchise making a compelling case for his continued presence in Atlanta’s future plans Factory Harley-Davidson/Dynojet rider Kyle Wyman won a red flag-shortened Braves They’re also looking to regain some of that momentum they had in spades this time a week ago after stumbling through yet another ‘winnable’ homestand Cincinnati dropped four of seven at home against the rebuilding St and to date still sport a home wRC+ of just 74 on the season - tied with the lowly Colorado Rockies for the worst mark at home by any MLB club a place where they’ve found much more success in the early going their collective 120 wRC+ in road games the fourth best mark in the game Up next is an Atlanta club that fell flat out of the gate in a vintage-Reds fashion dropping each of the first seven games of the season They’re 15-11 since then as they begin to claw their way back up the standings in the NL East but they’re a club that’s still very much looking for footing with a roster that looks greatly different than their elite clubs of recent memory who left in free agency to sign with Baltimore who excelled last year after moving to the rotation from the bullpen who returned briefly early in 2025 after missing a year with elbow surgery landed back on the IL quickly with hamstring problems The end result - even with a healthy Chris Sale - is a team sporting a 4.51 ERA from their starters so far (26th overall) If you asked every single player in both of these locker rooms where they think they should be in the standings I think every single response would be ‘in first place.’ That’s both a testament to the caliber players each roster has as well as a combination of expectations and - in the Reds case - how close they’ve been already to winning six That sets the stage for a four-game series with a lot to play for this week and the hope is we’ll see the Reds rise to that challenge down in Cobb County May 5th (7:15 PM ET) - RHP Brady Singer vs May 6th (7:15 PM ET) - LHP Andrew Abbott vs May 7th (7:15 PM ET) - RHP Hunter Greene vs All four of these games will be broadcast on FanDuel Sports Network You can watch FDSN in-market through cable packages though it’s also available to be streamed in-market with no blackout restrictions even without a cable subscription Check the link in the above sidebar for more information on how you can do just that and Thursday’s matchups will also be carried on MLB Network so you can view them there if you get that channel you can view these games from outside the Reds TV market by catching the FDSN stream through MLB.tv This was very nearly a major letdown but fortunately the Braves were able to hold on to a series-salvaging win over LA Austin Riley’s two home runs and four RBIs ended up being enough for the Atlanta Braves in this one, as they just about held on to a 4-3 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers in order to salvage this series with a win Bryce Elder struck out the side to get this game going and the offense rewarded him by keeping the good vibes going into the bottom of the first inning Alex Verdugo coaxed a walk out of Dustin May to get the game going and then Austin Riley crushed a no-doubter over the fence in left field in order to make it 2-0 Braves right out of the gate Atlanta went down in order from that point forward but the damage had been done and the Braves were playing from ahead against the Dodgers Good evening, everyone!#BravesCountry pic.twitter.com/mSvrUHid1m The Braves had a chance to add onto their two-run lead in the second inning after Michael Harris II led off that inning with a walk Money Mike then went to the baseball bank and forcibly withdrew second base which meant that Harris was in scoring position with nobody out the Braves went down in order after that happened — including Michael Conforto (who normally isn’t a great defensive outfielder) robbing Eli White of what would’ve easily been an RBI hit for White That was as close as the Braves got to pushing a run across which meant that it was up to Bryce Elder to make sure that the lead continued to hold up Elder kept them quiet heading into the next frame which is when Atlanta’s lineup got active once again Alex Verdugo got the Braves going in the third with a leadoff single which brought Austin Riley to the batter’s box with another chance to do some damage as he proceeded to mash his second two-run dinger of the night Riley’s second trip to the left-field seats made it a 4-0 game for the Braves which meant that Elder had plenty of breathing room to work with heading into the middle portion of this contest It'd been about 30 minutes since Austin's last dinger so he was due tbh#BravesCountry pic.twitter.com/56YdioEdhq The breathing room ended up coming in handy as the Dodgers finally made their presence felt at the plate in the top of the fourth inning Los Angeles strung together a one-out single from Teoscar Hernández and a double from Max Muncy in order to put the Dodgers on the board Elder clamped down from that point forward and LA was forced to settle with just the one run scored in the fourth inning The top of the fifth brought a pretty loud scare from Shohei Ohtani with two outs in that inning as he absolutely crushed a slider that Bryce Elder left in the zone The thing that might’ve saved Elder here is the fact that he didn’t leave it in the dead middle of the zone and Ohtani was unable to pull it .790 xBA fly ball for a very loud out and the three-run lead was still intact heading into the bottom half of the inning The sixth inning ended up being the end of the road for Bryce Elder as Ohtani’s loud out heralded the beginning of his third trip through the order That third trip only lasted through a Mookie Betts walk and a Freddie Freeman single that moved Betts all the way to third base Pierce Johnson entered the game with runners on the corners and nobody out as he was looking to keep the three-run lead intact The Dodgers were able to cut into the lead thanks to a productive out from Max Muncy with two men in scoring position Any time you in a situation where the Dodgers have guys on second and third with one or fewer outs Pierce Johnson was able to strike out Andy Pages after Muncy’s productive out an d that made sure that the Braves kept the lead — just that it was now two runs instead of three Pierce Johnson got the first out of the seventh inning before Dylan Lee was called upon for the the rest of the seventh The Dodgers responded to Lee entering the game by bringing in Miguel Rojas to pinch hit and the move ended up working out for LA as Rojas hit a line drive into the road bullpen that cut the deficit down to one and this game was officially too tight for comfort Things got even more nervy when Shohei Ohtani hit a double to get into scoring position for Mookie Betts Lee’s night was done after Ohtani’s double and it was up to Daysbel Hernández to make sure the Braves got out of the seventh still out in front Hernández was able to get a ground ball to end the inning but it was becoming clear that the Braves were probably going to need some more runs if they were going to salvage a win from this series Marcell Ozuna delivered a single in Atlanta’s half of the seventh inning but the Braves were unable to get anything going past that so the bullpen was tasked with holding onto what was looking like a very tenuous one-run lead at this point in the contest Daysbel Hernández stayed in the game for the eighth inning and was able to help ensure that the Braves went into the ninth inning with a chance to leave as the winners A huge assist went to the defense in this frame as well — Ozzie Albies made a diving stop on a ground ball from Freddie Freeman for the first out and then Eli White made an acrobatic catch in right field to rob Max Muncy of a hit off of a line drive While Eli White was able to get on base in the bottom half of the eighth which meant that it was officially up to Raisel Iglesias to help push the Braves over the finish line in this one this didn’t come easy as Iglesias had to deal with a runner in scoring position to lead things off after Andy Pages battled his way on base with a leadoff single and then pinch-runner Hyeseong Kim stole second base Kim then made it to third after pinch-hitter Will Smith struck out but Raisel Iglesias was able to strike out Miguel Rojas as well in order to bring up Austin Barnes with the game on the line Iglesias then proceeded to strike out Barnes on four pitches in order to preserve a much-needed win for the Braves It always feels good to win and although the Braves are going to end this season series with the Dodgers with a pretty rough-looking record avoiding the sweep was key for Atlanta and they were able to get the job done in that regard Atlanta will now have to tangle with the Reds for the next four games but for now they’ll be able to at least head into that series with Cincinnati back in the winner’s column Hopefully they’ll be able to keep the good vibes from this win rolling into next week
