Pro Libertate coffee will feature beans from Fort Worth's Buon Giorno Coffee
A new coffee shop ready to serve day and night is coming to Azle: Called Pro Libertate Coffee
it’s located in a former dance studio at 150 W
Pro Libertate comes from Bryan Wallace and his wife
who’ve had a shared dream of opening a coffee shop for the past eight years
The shop will offer a wide range of coffee and espresso drinks including lattes
Bryan was previously a police officer for the Azle Police Department
“The longer and longer I worked in law enforcement
the more I thought coffee’s pretty good and got more serious about it,” Bryan says
"We’d travel all over the US trying different coffee shops
getting an idea of what we did and didn’t like and what we wanted to incorporate in ours.”
Bryan wasn’t really a coffee drinker until he got on the police force
then he found that many places didn’t live up to his expectations
there weren't a lot of late night coffee options
"Not having an option to get good coffee while I was at work and especially not having good coffee after 6 pm was pretty rough," Bryan says
Unlike the typical coffee shop that closes in the afternoon
right before the end of a standard work shift
Pro Libertate will be open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 am until 9 pm
It will provide an option for locals seeking a boost at night
Supporting local businesses is a big deal to the couple, too. They’ll source coffee beans from the Buon Giorno Coffee location in Fort Worth
Sparkling and bottled water will come from Mineral Wells-based Crazy Water
Sodas and more will come from Dublin Bottling Works out of Dublin
they’ve partnered with Veal Station Market
Pro Libertate aims to cater to all demographics of the town
“We’re going to have a dedicated kids play area so moms and dads in the middle of the day can have a place to enjoy coffee with friends and let kids play,” Bryan says
“I think it’s a pretty good thing we’ll offer that doesn’t have a lot of competition in the area.”
Pro Libertate coffee will feature beans from Fort Worth's Buon Giorno Coffee
There’s a new Nashville chicken restaurant now open in Mansfield: Called 2 Neighbors Southern Chicken
it opened in March in the Broad Street Shopping Center at 2751 E
where it's serving an authentic version from a family with first-hand knowledge
Owner Carlonda Marshall is a native of Nashville who's getting some backup from her mother
"We grew up on Nashville fried chicken
that would be our Friday night meal," Marshall says
Mansfield is a second location: Marshall opened the first 2 Neighbors in 2017 in Cedar Hill, before relocating to the Grow DeSoto Market Place in 2020, where it’s still open today. (They also briefly opened a burgers and shakes concept next door in the marketplace
The new Mansfield location has fast-casual service
Fans can buy hats and T-shirts with the restaurant's design
The menu at Mansfield is similar to DeSoto location but with a bigger focus on Southern fried chicken
Customers can get plain fried chicken or the spicier Nashville-style
Prices range from $8.50 for nuggets to $14 for catfish & fries
The only thing they're not doing at Mansfield is sandwiches
a twist on the classic Kentucky butter cake
a moist pound cake with a butter and sugar syrup and a vanilla glazed crust
The center where they're located has a healthy mix of shops and restaurants. They took over a space that was previously occupied by another chicken place called Chick'n Cone
now closed; but Marshall is upbeat about the area
"Just looking in the Mansfield area and seeing all the growth there
we decided it’s kind of booming over there,” she says
"We're so busy in Mansfield right now
we're getting a lot of walk-in traffic."
Kaeden Farish will serve prison time for the death of 17-year-old Dustin Anderton
who overdosed and died from fentanyl-laced pills provided by Farish
BEDFORD, Texas - A 19-year-old Azle man is now the first person in Tarrant County convicted of murder for dealing fentanyl.
Kaeden Farish will serve prison time for the death of 17-year-old Dustin Anderton in Bedford earlier this year
Prosecutors have begun using the new law to target fentanyl dealers
and there are signs it — and other measures — might be having an effect in the fight against fentanyl
State data shows Texas is seeing a decline in fentanyl-related deaths
the problem is far from gone.
Prosecutors say 19-year-old Kaeden Farish is now the first person in Tarrant County to be convicted of murder for dealing fentanyl leading to an overdose death
"My office just used a new fentanyl murder law and sent a defendant to prison for dealing a deadly dose of fentanyl," said Tarrant County DA Phil Sorrells
The new law went into effect last fall. It allows prosecutors to charge individuals with murder if they make or deal fentanyl that causes death.
article Gov. Abbott signs multiple fentanyl-related bills into law Gov. Abbott signed multiple fentanyl-related bills. The bill with the biggest impact on dealers is House Bill 6.
Farish pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 19 years in prison.
"Fentanyl overdoses are unfortunately all too common," said Bedford Police Chief Bobby Lapenna. "Unfortunately, people don’t know what they’re ingesting whenever they take the drug."
Bedford police charged Farish after 17-year-old Dustin Anderton overdosed and died from fentanyl-laced pills while inside a home on January 20.
"I don’t think anyone would intentionally take a lethal amount of fentanyl, knowingly," Lapenna said.
The chief of police points out that for detectives pursuing an overdose murder charge, there’s a greater threshold of necessary evidence to make the case stick in court.
"The work that they put in and the effort and time that they put into a case like this goes well beyond your normal narcotics investigation," Lapenna said.
Texas Department of State Health Services data shows a steadily rapid increase in fentanyl poisoning deaths throughout the past decade.
In 2014, Texas reported 79 fentanyl poisoning-related deaths. That was only 3.7% of all drug poisoning deaths.
But in 2023, there were more than 2,300 deaths, approaching half of all drug poisoning deaths.
This year, for the first time in a decade, those numbers are shrinking. So far, there have been roughly 1,000 deaths.
The hope moving forward is that charging people for murder related to fentanyl deaths deters dealers and manufacturers and helps that number continue to drop.
"And really put drug dealers on notice," Lapenna said.
There have been murder charges applied to dealers in overdose deaths in Collin County, Denton County and more.
