Golden Eagles second-to-last meet of outdoor regular season
but the past Badgers shined bright—none brighter than the legendary running backs: Melvin Gordon
The draft being in Wisconsin brought in many all-time great Wisconsin players to share in the historic day. It was a fairly underwhelming draft for the current stature of Wisconsin football
Those four jumped on a podcast called "Green Light with Chris Long" to share their memories of Wisconsin and the NFL. The whole podcast is a great listen, and you can find it here
one hilarious story from Melvin Gordon may have taken the cake
“Ain’t no f***ing way I’m going #1” 😂😂Melvin Gordon on the time he thought he was getting drafted first overall pic.twitter.com/EmsLGFeXTZ
The story he shares is incredible or maybe incredibly funny
He said that the draft had just started with the music and everything when he received a call from a Florida number
only to find out it was fellow Wisconsin player George Rushing's dad on the phone
and you look good in your suit." Melvin had the whole room dying
The way he tells it will have any Badger fan laughing
He ended up being drafted 15th overall by the San Diego Chargers
he said the call wasn't as sweet as he thought when the number one overall pick was on the board
That first overall pick ended up being Jameis Winston

Ballard compared Wohler to a player he acquired when he was an executive with the Kansas City Chiefs

Wisconsin isn’t done adding players just yet
The Wisconsin Badgers have had quite a busy offseason
as they had to retool a roster that lost six scholarship seniors and three others to the transfer portal
they added four players from the transfer portal: San Diego State guard Nick Boyd
They’re also in the process of adding Lithuanian big man Aleksas Bieliauskas
who should help out the frontcourt rotation
as they have 13 scholarships and one walk-on for their 2025-26 roster
the expectation was that the Badgers would fill the final spot with a walk-on player
carrying 13 scholarships and two walk-ons for the upcoming season
head coach Greg Gard clarified the team’s intentions with their final roster spot at his annual Garding Against Cancer event on Friday
depending on what the Judge approves,” Gard said about the impending settlement that would keep roster limits at 15 players
“We are still actively recruiting another spot
we are in that process of continuing to add as we move forward
[but] likely [a] scholarship [player] is what we are having some conversations about with quite a few people
Wisconsin could revert back to the 13 scholarships and two walk-ons if they convert Jack Janicki back to a walk-on player and compensate the guard with more NIL resources
it seems they will be adding another scholarship player to the fold
although it is unclear where exactly that depth will be

Junior shatters month-old program record in the event
The historic Lake Michigan auto and passenger ferry SS Badger, the last steamship operating on the Great Lakes, is heading to Wisconsin for about two weeks starting April 30 for repairs before it opens its season
The SS Badger, which traverses Lake Michigan between Ludington, Michigan, and Manitowoc, Wisconsin, — serving as a link is the U.S. 10 highway — will undergo propeller shaft bearing repair in dry dock at Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding
The vessel is expected to depart Ludington between 6 and 8 a.m
for a 12-hour trip to Washington Island at the tip of the Door Peninsula
then south through Green Bay to Sturgeon Bay
originally scheduled for April 29 was delayed for a day because of National Weather Service forecasts predicting gale-force winds on Lake Michigan
with surface winds up to 50 knots possible
Why does the ship need repairs? Will this affect the 2025 season? The repairs are being made to prepare for the Badger's upcoming season, which will begin May 16
The ship is expected to return to Ludington by May 11
"It is the priority of (owner/operator) Lake Michigan Carferry and our parent company
to keep the Badger in its best working condition," Sara Spore
"Having these repairs done now will reduce interruptions to our summer sailing season."
that the ship is going into drydock because the repair work requires taking the boat out of the water and removing its 13-foot
Each of the Badger's propellers weighs 13,800 pounds
Together the four-bladed props can propel the ship at 15.6 knots
VerVelde said the Badger is heading to Door County under its own power instead of being towed because
with the ship's ferry season starting in less than three weeks
it'll already have a crew on board doing its preseason "fit out," including getting the engines and machinery ready for the season
What is the SS Badger? The Badger is a passenger and vehicle ferry. It was designated as a National Historic Landmark in 2016.
Badger (is) an outstanding example of American ingenuity in transportation technology," the National Park Service said
"One of two of the largest ferries ever to sail Lake Michigan
and the last remaining Great Lakes rail/car ferry in operation
designed specifically to handle the conditions of year-round passage on Lake Michigan
The ship was built in 1953 by Christy Corp
at the same facilities now owned by Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding
The ship was in drydock at Bay Shipbuilding over the winter of 2021-22 for its routine five-year drydock inspection
72-year-old ship offers the largest cross-lake passenger service on the Great Lakes and an authentic steamship experience
The ship can carry 600 passengers and 180 vehicles
The ferry is the last coal-fired ship on the lakes, and may be the last example of its design in the world
The ferry takes four hours to cross the lake
and commercial trucks across Lake Michigan between Ludington and Manitowoc
The Badger operates between May and October as an auto and passenger ferry that also is capable of transporting commercial vehicles
The spring season for the four-hour voyage between Ludington and Manitowoc runs from May 16 to June 19
Tickets for those 16 and older are $86 in the summer for one-way travel and $172 for round trips
Vehicles begin at $99 and $198 with additional fees for trailers and larger vehicles
Spring tickets are $75 and $150 for individuals
Reservations are "strongly encouraged."
For no additional charge, animals may be kept in a well-ventilated portable kennel on the car deck or transported in the owner’s vehicle
no pets of any kind are allowed in any passenger area
Service dogs trained to work or perform tasks for a passenger with a disability may accompany that individual
The Lake Michigan Lake Express provides daily roundtrip service between Muskegon and Milwaukee

The 2025 NFL Draft is complete, and the always hectic undrafted free-agent period is all but officially finished (see where all of the prospects ended up here.) Now it's time for a favorite annual piece of mine -- undrafted free agent rankings
everyone knows a handful of UDFAs ultimately make names for themselves
Let's rank this year's class of undrafted free agents by talent and
Have to consider a "hit" here being an UDFA who
made the team out of the preseason or make contributions after practice-squad elevations during the season
Over the past four years of this annual project
I liked new Falcons defensive tackle Simeon Barrow Jr
I think Griffith has a much better opportunity in a very thin Seattle defensive tackle room
which is why he gets the nod in this article
The former Harvard-turned-Louisville product is the consummate overachiever
simply not large enough to withstand the repeated punishment of an inside run game at that level
much of that had to do with his tiny wingspan that measured in under 77 inches that equates to right around the sixth percentile at the position
There are other instances in which Griffith's immense strength -- 42 reps on the bench -- is wildly apparent
He torques blockers out of his path so he can sneak into the intended rushing lane
hustle and advancing pass-rush move arsenal
In Seattle, there's 2024 first-round pick Byron Murphy, Mike Morris and Quinton Bohanna on the interior
Griffith plays with enough power and energy to overachieve
catch the eye of head coach Mike Macdonald and make this Seahawks roster
Ponder deserved to be drafted. I get that he played at the small-school level. But he was productive enough -- 15.3% pressure rate in his final two seasons -- and athletic enough to be selected. Plus, Ponder has an NFL frame at nearly 6-3 and 251 pounds with arms longer than 33 inches and a sizable 80-inch wingspan
Ponder had a 41-inch vertical and 11-foot broad jump
which would place in the 98th percentile in each of those tests at the edge-rusher position
Ponder's bend was evident on film and catalyzed many of his 17 sacks and 25.5 tackles for loss in 2023 and 2024 combined
This was a savvy UDFA add by Patriots GM Eliot Wolf who can be maximized under the watchful eye of former overhang linebacker Mike Vrabel
I think Conyers' age did him in regarding his eventual undrafted status
23 and 24 (and even some 25 -and 26-year-olds) being selected in the post COVID-19 era isn't totally uncommon
The age element is my only guess as to why the former Arizona State-turned-Texas Tech star didn't hear his name called on draft weekend
combine invites who were noticeably productive in college and tested through the roof get picked
At a uniquely sized 6-3 1/2" and 260 pounds
Conyers had a 40-yard dash in the 56th percentile
broad jump in the 81st percentile and a three-cone in the 86th percentile at the tight end position dating back to 1999
bouncy YAC specialist who got after it as a blocker and routinely demolished in the run game
On 97 catches in his final three college seasons
Conyers dropped just six passes while forcing a whopping 33 missed tackles
1 tight end in Miami after a mini-breakout in 2024
But Conyers is a similar-type weapon Mike McDaniel will understand how to utilize in his offense
Roberts was incredibly dynamic at Marshall
And when you're as ridiculously athletic as Roberts is
it's perfectly sensible for him to be deployed all over the field
186 snaps in the box and 71 snaps as a slot corner last year
imposing defensive back at 5-11 and 192 pounds -- is that actually "small" in today's NFL for a slot defender/safety hybrid
In his two seasons at Marshall (after beginning his collegiate career at Wake Forest)
Roberts made a whopping 167 tackles with six tackles for loss with a pair of interceptions and 15 pass breakups (14 of which coming in 2024)
And I have not yet mentioned his freaky workout at the Marshall pro day -- 4.41 in the 40
40.5-inch vertical and a 10-6 in the broad -- Roberts has starting-caliber athleticism for whichever defensive back position you'd like him to be in the NFL
And the Buccaneers have a glaring need at safety next to Antoine Winfield
and are likely looking to add depth in that room
because it's that magnificent -- At just under 6-0 and 205 pounds
Owens had a 43-inch vertical and 11-3 broad with a 6.99 three-cone and 4.58 time in the 40-yard dash
This was his position breakdown in 2024 -- 54% of his snaps in the box
24.9% of the defensive snaps at free safety and 16.5% as a slot corner
And the athleticism is apparent on film -- Owens is routinely a rocket to the football against the run and in coverage
Owens compiled a ridiculous 111 tackles in 2024 to go along with three tackles for loss
he defended 18 passes with 165 takedowns -- 13.5 behind the line -- across three seasons
For a team that blurs the position distinction labels at safety more than any other team in football
Owens has a chance to make a name for himself in Buffalo
I have a hot take simmering, and I'm going to hit you with it now -- Kiner will ultimately outplay 49ers fifth-round selection Jordan James at the running back position
Kyle Shanahan has a remarkably long history of maximizing value out of running backs, doesn't matter the size, speed or draft round. This situation will be no different. Kiner was the 26th running back recruit in the nation in the 2021 class, per 247 Sports
He transferred back to his hometown Bearcats then went over 1,000 yards each season at a combined 5.6 yards per tote in 2023 and 2024 while at Cincinnati
He only ran 4.57 at the combine at 5-8 and 208 pounds
The 4.44 short-shuttle at his pro day wasn't great
running back is one position in which athleticism isn't as predictive for future success at the professional level
probably because spatial processing and contact balance are vital to effectiveness at that position
Kiner's elusiveness and contact balance were extraordinarily evident on film and are backed up by the numbers
When you authentically evaluate an entire draft
there are a few prospects you really like who slip through the cracks
someone I had a second-round grade on who didn't hear his name called on Thursday
I have no clue if there's a lingering injury or if he has character concerns
Maybe what I saw -- and what the numbers suggested -- were completely off
Badger led his team in receiving yards in three straight seasons (at Arizona State in 2022 and 2023 and Florida in 2024) and was invited to the combine
he ran 4.43 at over 6-1 and 200 pounds with a 10-yard split in the 63rd percentile and vertical in the 48th percentile at his position
Loved that he played outside on 75% of his snaps in college
Badger caught essentially everything in college
The cherry on top was how effortlessly efficient he was after the catch
routinely bouncing off tacklers and knifing through the defense on screens or comebacks
Badger was credited with 64 missed tackles forced on 181 career snags in the Pac-12 and SEC
Beyond the 49ers, no club loves run-after-the-catch capabilities more than the Andy Reid/Patrick Mahomes Chiefs. Given the uncertainty of Rashee Rice in 2025 -- coming off an injury and potential NFL suspension incoming -- Badger has the refined skill and natural receiving talent to pop on this Chiefs team right away

"our" or "us") (TSX:BDGI) reported first quarter results today
"Badger had a strong start to the year as our revenue grew 7% to $172.6 million and Adjusted EBITDA increased 16% compared to last year
This shows the business' operating leverage that has resulted from our continued focus on improving margins and profitability in the seasonally slower first quarter
Despite historically adverse weather in the southern half of the U.S

which we plan to grow by 4% to 7% this year
provides us with ample capacity to absorb additional demand in 2025
With our strategic initiatives to leverage pricing opportunities
Badger is well-positioned to meet our customers' growing needs,” concluded Mr

We will continue to leverage our customer relationships through our Sales and National Account strategies to drive higher activity levels across our broad branch network
we are increasingly focused on our operating efficiency and the stability of our overhead support functions
To accelerate this effort we are extending our operational excellence initiatives from our manufacturing plant to the entire field operations group to streamline and enhance our customers' experience
We believe this initiative will help Badger continue to realize solid operating leverage on additional revenues
Badger is focused on disciplined fleet management and utilization to support its organic growth requirements and will continue to leverage its vertically integrated manufacturing capabilities
Our investments in our hydrovac fleet include further planned growth of 4% to 7% in 2025
Together with our programs to capture pricing opportunities

Badger is well positioned to meet our growing customer needs
Badger is in the lower half of its financial leverage range

while making purchases under the NCIB and returning capital to our shareholders through dividends
The impact of the scope and duration of the tariffs on Canadian exports and the retaliatory tariffs on certain U.S
The measures that are currently in place are anticipated to have a minor impact on the cost of the hydrovacs that we assemble at our plant in Red Deer
Alberta and use in our operations across North America
the uncertainty resulting from these and any potential future measures may lead to a slowdown in the markets where Badger operates
Badger has undertaken a number of initiatives to mitigate the impacts of these tariffs
We currently have ample fleet positioned in the right markets

Badger works for contractors and facility owners in a broad range of infrastructure industries and in general commercial construction
Badger’s customers typically operate near high concentrations of underground power

What does "You can't lick a badger twice" mean
Like many English sayings — "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush," "A watched pot never boils" — it isn't even true
nothing stops you from licking a badger as often as you'd like
(I'm sure Business Insider's lawyers would like me to insist you exercise caution when encountering wildlife
and that we cannot be held liable for any rabies infections.)
unlike "rings a bell," it is not actually a genuine saying — or idiom — in the English language
But Google's AI Overview sure thinks it's real
and will happily give you a detailed answer of what the phrase means
saw people talking about this phenomenon on Threads and wanted to try it himself with a made-up idiom
The badger phrase "just popped into my head," he told Business Insider
His Google search spit out an answer that seemed reasonable
so I made up a few fake phrases — like "You can't fit a duck in a pencil" — and added "meaning" onto my search query
Google took me seriously and explained:
like "The Road is full of salsa." (This one I'd like to see being used in real life
that its AI systems are trying their best to give you what you want — but that when people purposely try to play games
"When people do nonsensical or 'false premise' searches
our systems will try to find the most relevant results based on the limited web content available," spokeswoman Meghann Farnsworth said
"This is true of Search overall — and in some cases
AI Overviews will also trigger in an effort to provide helpful context."
and these fake idioms are "false premise" searches that are purposely intended to trip it up (fair enough)
Google does try to limit the AI Overviews from answering things that are "data voids," i.e.
when there are no good web results to a question
I have some ideas about what's going on here — some of it is good and useful
But first, one more made-up phrase that Google tried hard to find meaning for: "Don't kiss the doorknob." Says Google's AI Overview:
English is full of idioms like "kick the bucket" or "piece of cake." These can be confusing if English isn't your first language (and frankly
they're often confusing for native speakers
My case in point is that the phrase is commonly misstated as "case and point."
So it makes lots of sense that people would often be Googling to understand the meaning of a phrase they came across that they don't understand
this is a great use for the AI Overview answers: You want to see the simply-stated answer right away
AI should be really good at this particular thing
LLMs are trained on vast amounts of the English written language — reams of books
so being able to recognize idioms is something they should be very good at doing
The fact that it's making mistakes here is not ideal
What's going wrong that Google's AI Overview isn't giving the real answer
ChatGPT gave a better answer when I asked it about the badger phrase
It told me that it was not a standard English idiom
even though it had the vaguely folksy sound of one
"If we treat it like a real idiom (for fun)," and gave a possible definition
So this isn't a problem across all AI — it seems to be a Google problem
uglier problems with AI becoming more and more enmeshed in how we use the internet
It means Google searches are somehow worse
and since people start to rely on these more and more
that bad information is just getting out there into the world and taken as fact
AI search will get better and more accurate
but what growing pains will we endure while we're in this middle phase of a kinda wonky
Watt has made the Pro Bowl in each of the last seven seasons
with double-digit sacks in every year he's stayed healthy
His reign of dominance in the NFL could start to decline in 2025
at least according to the latest projections from ESPN
NFL analyst Mike Clay puts together stat projections every year for every player on every team
and he foresees Watt's production starting to decrease this season for the Pittsburgh Steelers
Give it a minute to process, but the rosters/depth charts/projections in is doc are updated to reflect the entire 2025 NFL draft. Lots of additional work on tap, but we're off and running! https://t.co/AopeYyhTW7
He has Watt finishing with 60 tackles and 10 sacks on 914 snaps this season
That's on pace with the normal amount of playing time he sees in a healthy year
but it would be the fewest sacks for Watt in a full season since his rookie year of 2017 and his fewest total tackles since 2020
no turnovers and just one tackle for loss over the Steelers' final three games
so it's reasonable to expect that a decline will come at some point
And Pittsburgh used a fourth-round pick on Ohio State edge rusher Jack Sawyer
That has helped fuel speculation of a potential trade as he enters the final year of his current contract
Now this is a TJ Watt post on Instagram that will give fans heart palpitations … but maybe it’s just a favorite photo of his pic.twitter.com/2Y5Rm5ld1N
But keeping Watt fresh with more bodies at outside linebacker should only help him stay efficient as a pass rusher and keep his sack total high
he shouldn't be overlooked by an opponent or prognosticator
He deserves the benefit of the doubt to still expect greatness until he shows real reason to believe otherwise
it will also tell you what it means and how it was derived
This is genuinely fun, and you can find lots of examples on social media
“a loose dog won't surf” is “a playful way of saying that something is not likely to happen or that something is not going to work out.” The invented phrase “wired is as wired does” is an idiom that means “someone's behavior or characteristics are a direct result of their inherent nature or ‘wiring,’ much like a computer's function is determined by its physical connections.”
it’s also a tidy encapsulation of where generative AI still falls short
As a disclaimer at the bottom of every AI Overview notes
Google uses “experimental” generative AI to power its results
Generative AI is a powerful tool with all kinds of legitimate practical applications
But two of its defining characteristics come into play when it explains these invented phrases
First is that it’s ultimately a probability machine; while it may seem like a large-language-model-based system has thoughts or even feelings
at a base level it’s simply placing one most-likely word after another
laying the track as the train chugs forward
That makes it very good at coming up with an explanation of what these phrases would mean if they meant anything
“The prediction of the next word is based on its vast training data,” says Ziang Xiao
a computer scientist at Johns Hopkins University
the next coherent word does not lead us to the right answer.”
“It’s extremely difficult for this system to account for every individual query or a user’s leading questions,” says Xiao
“This is especially challenging for uncommon knowledge
languages in which significantly less content is available
Compounding these issues is that AI is loath to admit that it doesn’t know an answer
“When people do nonsensical or ‘false premise’ searches
our systems will try to find the most relevant results based on the limited web content available,” said Google spokesperson Meghann Farnsworth in an emailed statement
AI Overviews will also trigger in an effort to provide helpful context.”
Google won’t return an AI Overview result for every query like this
“I did about five minutes of experimentation
which is very dependent on specific examples in training sets and not very abstract,” says Gary Marcus
a cognitive scientist and author of Taming Silicon Valley: How We Can Ensure That AI Works for Us
“The idea that any of this mess is close to AGI [artificial general intelligence] is preposterous.”
This specific AI Overview quirk seems ultimately harmless, and again, it’s a fun way to procrastinate. But it’s helpful to keep in mind that the same model coughing up that confident mistake is the one behind your other AI-generated query results. Take it with a grain of salt.

Google users quickly discovered that typing any concocted phrase into the search bar with the word "meaning" attached at the end would generate an AI Overview with a purported explanation of its idiomatic meaning
Even the most nonsensical attempts at new proverbs resulted in a confident explanation from Google's AI Overview
In the wake of the "lick a badger" post, countless users flocked to social media to share Google's AI interpretations of their own made-up idioms
often expressing horror or disbelief at Google's take on their nonsense
Those posts often highlight the overconfident way the AI Overview frames its idiomatic explanations and occasional problems with the model confabulating sources that don't exist
But after reading through dozens of publicly shared examples of Google's explanations for fake idioms—and generating a few of my own—I've come away somewhat impressed with the model's almost poetic attempts to glean meaning from gibberish and make sense out of the senseless
Let's try a thought experiment: Say a child asked you what the phrase "you can't lick a badger twice" means
You'd probably say you've never heard that particular phrase or ask the child where they heard it
You might say that you're not familiar with that phrase or that it doesn't really make sense without more context
Someone on Threads noticed you can type any random sentence into Google
and you’ll get an AI explanation of a famous idiom or phrase you just made up

— Greg Jenner (@gregjenner.bsky.social) April 23, 2025 at 6:15 AM
Google's AI Overview doesn't go through exactly that kind of human thought process when faced with a similar question about the same saying
the large language model also does its best to generate a plausible-sounding response to an unreasonable request
As seen in Greg Jenner's viral Bluesky post
Google's AI Overview suggests that "you can't lick a badger twice" means that "you can't trick or deceive someone a second time after they've been tricked once
It's a warning that if someone has already been deceived
they are unlikely to fall for the same trick again." As an attempt to derive meaning from a meaningless phrase —which was
Faced with a phrase that has no inherent meaning
the AI Overview still makes a good-faith effort to answer the user's request and draw some plausible explanation out of troll-worthy nonsense
Contrary to the computer science truism of "garbage in, garbage out
Google here is taking in some garbage and spitting out..
Even when Google's AI Overview works hard to make the best of a bad prompt
I can still understand why the responses rub a lot of users the wrong way
has to do with the LLM's unearned confident tone
which pretends that any made-up idiom is a common saying with a well-established and authoritative meaning
Rather than framing its responses as a "best guess" at an unknown phrase (as a human might when responding to a child in the example above)
Google generally provides the user with a single
authoritative explanation for what an idiom means
Even with the occasional use of couching words such as "likely," "probably," or "suggests," the AI Overview comes off as unnervingly sure of the accepted meaning for some nonsense the user made up five seconds ago
I was able to find one exception to this in my testing
When I asked Google the meaning of "when you see a tortoise
spin in a circle," Google reasonably told me that the phrase "doesn't have a widely recognized
specific meaning" and that it's "not a standard expression with a clear
Google then offered suggestions for what the phrase "seems to" mean and mentioned Japanese nursery rhymes that it "may be connected" to
before concluding that it is "open to interpretation."
Those qualifiers go a long way toward properly contextualizing the guesswork Google's AI Overview is actually conducting here
And if Google provided that kind of context in every AI summary explanation of a made-up phrase
I don't think users would be quite as upset
Unfortunately, LLMs like this have trouble knowing what they don't know
meaning moments of self-doubt like the turtle interpretation here tend to be few and far between
It's not like Google's language model has some master list of idioms in its neural network that it can consult to determine what is and isn't a "standard expression" that it can be confident about
it's just projecting a self-assured tone while struggling to force the user's gibberish into meaning

showing Google's AI knows more about this potential symbolism than I do)
locking in commitments from four players this month
But now a former target and a Madison native is back in the portal
Greg Gard and the Badgers have already been very active in the transfer portal
Madison native and former USC commit Keonte Jones has re-entered the portal just weeks after first committing to the Trojans he announced on social media
pic.twitter.com/9pIHC5jtmp
The Cal State Northridge guard averaged 13.1 points, 9 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game last season
and was initially on the Badgers' short list before he committed to USC
A lot has changed since their initial interest in Jones
Gard and company have signed four players in the portal: Andrew Rohde
Wisconsin could still use another experienced wing to pair with Rohde
but the Badgers may no longer have the money to get something done
Wisconsin will probably still add another player to the roster before the season begins
There is still a possibility they can work something out with Jones
and it would give the Badgers much needed experience at the wing
Maybe Jones is willing to take somewhat of a hometown discount
Either way it would be a huge get if they can lock down Jones

MADISON – The block of the Wisconsin volleyball team received a major boost on Friday
The Badgers could use more experience at the position as the only middles on the roster behind Booth for the upcoming season are 6-4 redshirt freshman Tosia Serafinowska and Natalie Wardlow
an incoming freshman who will arrive on campus this summer
Andrew comes to Wisconsin with 70 matches of experience that include 58 starts
Baylor went 23-8 last season and 17-13 in 2023
reaching the second round of the NCAA Tournament each season
“Forever thankful for Baylor volleyball excited for the future in Wisco,” she wrote
The addition of Andrew comes as the Badgers also seek help from the transfer portal at right-side hitter in the wake of Grace Lopez’s season-ending knee injury
Andrew averaged 1.61 kills per set while hitting .396 last season She also led the team with 103 blocks
Those numbers were improvements over her production as a redshirt sophomore: 1.20 kills per set

The Badgers have close to a set roster for the 2025-26 season
The Wisconsin Badgers have their 13 scholarship players set for the 2025-26 season after adding a transfer and an international prospect on Thursday
the expectation is that Wisconsin will carry 13 scholarship players and one to two walk-ons per season
The Badgers added Lithuanian forward Aleksas Bieliauskas and Tulsa transfer Braeden Carrington to round out the roster
adding a much-needed big and some extra guard depth to fill out the remaining holes ahead of the upcoming season
should they use all 15 roster spots for next season
let’s break down what Wisconsin’s rotation could look like in 2025-26
The Badgers re-tooled their roster in the transfer portal
and three of those additions are currently projected to be in the starting lineup: Nick Boyd
Boyd was brought in to be the team’s point guard after averaging 13.4 points
and 3.9 assists per game this past season for San Diego State
Rohde is a good shooter and a sneaky playmaker
having averaged 9.3 points and 4.3 assists while hitting 41.3 percent of his threes for Virginia in 2024
and adds to the pick-and-pop game for Wisconsin after averaging 13.8 points and 6.5 rebounds per game this season
but I’m not sure that Bieliauskas will enter the starting lineup as the center
as he himself is only 6’9 with not as big of a frame
the projection seems to be a Rapp-Winter frontcourt
with the hope that the latter adds on some extra muscle to handle Big Ten centers
Wisconsin has a deep bench with three recruits coming in the Class of 2025
alongside a pool of returning and new talent
Jack Janicki should slide into a bigger role as the lead guard off the bench after announcing his return to Wisconsin
while Braeden Carrington offers some depth as a 15-minute-per-game player who can shoot a bit (33.6 percent from deep in 2024)
The question in the guard rotation is how quickly Zach Kinziger can be ready to play
hence why he’s a top-75 player in the freshman class
but may need some time to adjust size-wise to the physicality of the Big Ten
Janicki and Carrington should be the top wings for the Badgers to spell the starting guards
while Aleksas Bieliauskas now steps into a top backup role at the forward spot
Bieliauskas has good shooting percentages (over 39 percent from three)
but could need some adjusting to the collegiate level as he makes the transition from overseas
He projects as the backup power forward/center
and could work alongside Austin Rapp or Nolan Winter as a reserve
Wisconsin probably hopes that another scholarship player steps up as well next season to have some more depth
be it a center (Riccardo Greppi or Will Garlock) or a guy like Kinziger
that is the expected rotation for the upcoming season
with the Badgers now at 13 scholarship players
Here at the College of Letters & Science
we are grateful to the support from donors who value the work being done to provide a world-class liberal arts education to each generation of Badgers
the Letters & Science community showed what’s possible when Badgers come together
Thanks to the generosity of our incredible community, the 2025 Day of the Badger was the most successful yet for the L&S Annual Fund — raising more than $58,000 in support in just 1,848 minutes
That’s a remarkable statement about what this community values: opportunity
access and a world-class education rooted in curiosity and discovery
We’re especially grateful to our two anonymous donors whose $8,500 matching gift inspired others to give generously and keep the momentum going throughout the day
“There is so much to be proud of in Letters & Science,” says L&S Dean Eric M
“And that pride is reflected in our community’s support
It tells our students and faculty that they are seen
the College raised more than $656,000 to support students on their L&S journey
academic advising and high-impact learning opportunities that help students thrive and prepare for the future
This kind of support strengthens our mission and helps make a world-class liberal arts education accessible
This campaign wasn’t just a celebration — it was a Party to Pay It Forward
and the L&S community showed up in full force
Thanks to everyone who joined in the celebration for investing in the future of L&S
Day of the Badger unites Badgers in an effort to advance the mission of the University by bringing awareness to its achievements and raising critical funds to help the UW remain a world-class educational institution
