Golf Channel analyst Brandel Chamblee takes no offense if the answer is his wife
You can guess who that is,” he said in a phone interview with Golfweek
“Most of the time when we get invited somewhere people will say
really we’re inviting you so you can bring your wife.”
“The Favorite Chamblee” is the name of a new podcast that Brandel and Bailey launched on April 17
It’s got a bit of a "Live with Kelly and Mark" vibe to it
the long-running husband-wife morning talk show hosted by Mark Consuelos and Kelly Ripa
This golf-centric version is unaffiliated with Golf Channel
“It’s something my wife and I wanted to do for a while
She’s going to have frequent guests on from the fashion world
[Editor’s note: Those of us at Golfweek await colleague Eamon Lynch’s debut appearance with bated breath.]
“I’m going to pop on here and there and be on most of them
but it’s a way for her to entertain the fashion world and females in the golf space with a little analysis from me in it.”
one of the best in the business at what he does
This is a window into Brandel away from the set that viewers otherwise don’t see
how he almost sabotaged his relationship with Bailey before it really began with a poor shoe choice
But the best segment so far is the story of Bailey bringing an empty suitcase to Augusta
to bring home 60 bags of Masters potato chips for contestants of her member-member tournament back in Arizona
How does one go about buying 60 bags of potato chips at the Masters
During the Saturday round of the Augusta National Women’s Amateur
she filled a tote bag with 25 or so bags of chips
But she also recruited her hubby to raid the Masters media center
On the way to and from the Golf Channel set
Brandel made a habit of snagging two bags of chips
I felt like I robbed the bank,” he said on the first podcast episode
“I looked around and I was like somebody’s going to come out
some Green coat is going to come out and go
you got two bags yesterday on the way in and two on the way out
Bob's your uncle and we have 60 bags of chips," Brandel said
three bags of chips were compromised on the trip home
As Brandel was preparing to do the pre-game show before one of the most anticipated major championship rounds in years
"I have to go back in and steal gold from Fort Knox," Brandel said
"I'm getting kicked out of Augusta for getting more than my allotment of Masters chips.”
Two episodes in and it already feels as if "My Favorite Chamblee" is this year's new podcast we didn't know we needed
2025It’s always a fun time on The Rookie when Skip Tracer Randy (Flula Borg) shows up
and Tuesday night’s “Mutiny and the Bounty” episode is no different
And Parade has your first-look at what happens when Randy shows up at John Nolan (Nathan Fillion) and Bailey Nune’s (Jenna Dewan) house to ask for their help
The newlyweds are discussing the fact that they need a new roof
but he tells Bailey that they can’t DIY it because roofs are his “nemesis.” So
it would be the $15,000 plus hospital bills

he opens the door to find Randy about to knock
“I think he means me,” Bailey clarifies
“I’m struggling with a major problem,” Randy says
“One that has plagued mankind since it rose from the primordial ooze and ate from the pornographic apple
I hope we get to meet her,” Bailey says
“The object of my affection is none other than the beautiful
talented and unnervingly flexible Chastity Snead [Meg DeLacy].”
“My brother’s girlfriend?” Nolan asks

– At risk of asking this question too early
is new Indiana forward Reed Bailey underrated
who obviously made Bailey a priority as he was one of the first players to commit to Darian DeVries
Bailey kind of got caught in a bit of a weird churn in the portal
He wasn’t the first commit – that was either Conor Enright or Tucker DeVries
depending on how you might look at it – and he didn’t come in with the drama Lamar Wilkerson did as Indiana won the head-to-head fight with Kentucky for Wilkerson
Bailey’s commitment also became public knowledge on a Sunday
a day when many aren’t paying attention to such things
If it’s true that Bailey got overlooked due to circumstances beyond his control
matches up to anyone else Indiana brought in from the portal
a very high total from a non-point guard who averaged nearly 20 points per game
could be the best player Indiana brought in
his career suggests that his game will do plenty of talking for him
Here’s a look at some examples of Bailey when he’s been at his best in his career
a player’s biggest moment becomes a footnote because his team lost
Such was the case for Bailey in a Davidson game at Rhode Island on Jan
Bailey went crazy against Archie Miller’s Rams
He scored a career-high 32 points on 11 of 17 shooting
and he was a perfect 4-for-4 from 3-point range
Bailey also made a layup with five seconds left in overtime to put Davidson in front
It was an effort that would be long remembered by Davidson fans
Except Rhode Island’s Sebastian Thomas drilled a 3-pointer with a second left to give Rhode Island a 92-90 victory
Bailey started all 97 games he played at Davidson
but he really didn’t become dominant until his recently completed junior season
Bailey averaged 18.8 points for the Wildcats
shooting 41.5% from 3-point range and 47.7% overall
It stands to reason that Bailey’s top six scoring efforts came in the 2024-25 season
He peaked with the 32-point game at Rhode Island
but he had five other games where he scored at least 25 points
it’s not surprising that Bailey shot 50% or better on five or more shots in a game 27 times
Bailey’s career-best percentage was 5-for-7 against both Fordham and Peace
His personal best was 11 field goals made in a 72-66 win at Richmond in January
Bailey has had an impressive 23 games where he shot at least 50% from 3-point range
Only one of them came on five 3-point attempts or more
but he’s proven to be reliable from long range
Bailey’s career-best in 3-point accuracy was a 4-for-4 performance in that win against Richmond
That’s also his career-best for 3-pointers made in a game
Bailey can be lethal at the free throw line
He’s had 25 games where he was perfect from the line
Seven of those games came when Bailey attempted five free throws or more
He was 12-for-12 at the line twice – in a 2023 game against Miami of Ohio and in a January 2024 game at Fordham
Davidson Wildcats forward Reed Bailey (1) loosk to shoot as Providence Friars forward Oswin Erhunmwunse (55) defends during the second half at the Imperial Arena at the Atlantis Resort
/ Kevin Jairaj-Imagn ImagesThough rightly characterized as a stretch four forward
He’s had six career double-digit rebounding efforts
His career high was 14 rebounds against Loyola in February
including an 11-assist effort in that aforementioned win against Richmond
Bailey’s career high in steals is five in a December 2024 win against Detroit Mercy
though he’s had a trio of three-block games
Bailey’s performance against Richmond gave him his best sports-reference.com game score of 29.8
He barely missed a triple-double with 30 points
It was one of the most dominant performances any of Indiana’s transfer portal additions have had in their careers
Bailey rates highly in advanced offensive metrics
He ranked in the top 20 in the Atlantic 10 Conference in nearly every advanced offensive category – including the fourth-best Player Efficiency Rating at 22.3
Advanced stats bear out Bailey’s distribution skills
His 25% assist rate is outstanding for a 6-11 forward
Bailey is the finished version of what Trent Sisley could become for the Hoosiers once he gets accustomed to playing at the college level
it will bode well for Indiana on two fronts
and he could help Indiana down the line given Sisley’s potential

Bailey vowed to lead Georgia Democrats in an aggressive campaign
"Republicans have controlled this state for 22 years
12 rural hospitals have closed and 18 more are at risk of closing because they refuse to expand Medicaid," he wrote
"We'll make sure all voters know that electing more Republicans in Georgia means more billionaire tax cuts
and a host of other distractions that will not reduce prices for Georgians
and we're going to hold them accountable."
Bailey will take over the post immediately from Interim Chair Matthew Wilson

(WKYT) - Our potent upper low continues to sit and spin right on top of the Bluegrass state
This means a very ugly start to what is a very cool first full week of May as temps continue to run way below normal
Temps today only reach the low and mid 50s in many areas and that’s roughly 20 degrees colder than the normal highs in the middle 70s
Gusty showers and a few thunderstorms continue to spiral across our region and some of these may throw some small hail at us again
Temps Tuesday are in the 60se with upper 60sand low 70s for some by Wednesday
The setup later this week into the weekend continues the colder than normal look as another upper low impacts our weather
Just how much of an impact remains to be seen
but there’s still the chance for some scattered showers and storms
Cooler winds blow by Friday with sunny skies returning
Mother’s Day Weekend looks much better with sunshine and temps hitting the 70s

Player: Ian BaileyHeight: 6’3School: Asheville ChristianAAU: Team Vision
2026 Ian Bailey was a player that sat on top of our lists of “breakout players” or “big-time performers.” No matter how you label it and how much you have watched him play
Bailey showed why he is a proven D1 prospect here in North Carolina and why he should be a target for many in the region
Bailey opened our eyes to his game a couple of years ago as a young guard who showed flashes of potential
leading the charge in impressive fashion for Team Vision
The 6’3 guard has only gotten bigger and stronger
but his game has also improved over the year
you have to be impressed with his overall feel for the game
He knows and understands how to run the offense
showing the ability to be a facilitator and creator
and has another gear in being a true scorer for himself
And that doesn’t mention his ability to be a true scoring threat off the bounce
and in speaking with his high school coach
Asheville has been a strong program with him throughout
this is a young man who has proven he should be on several other programs’ radars
as he hopes to have a huge summer this year
high-IQ guard that you often don’t see when talking about bringing a balanced attack like he does
he excels tremendously in how he can create and make things happen
Bailey has exceptional court awareness and vision
Bailey also brings an exceptional feel of unselfishness but also the ability to create for himself
he does a great job in allowing the play to develop
and always knows where his teammates are and looking to set him up
But one can see that he is getting stronger and way more confident in his offensive scoring capabilities
whether it is displaying athleticism at the rim
or catching in rhythm to knock down shots from deep.”
“2026 Ian Bailey from Asheville Christian has certainly been a name on the rise over the last year or so
and now with him heading into the summer with Team Curry
Bailey is hoping to really showcase his talent
This is a guard that has a tremendous feel for the game
and plays at a natural pace. It seems like the game slows down for him with him reading the court and being that playmaker
as he has been showing that this summer early on for Team Curry 16u.”

2025The annual iHeartCountry Festival we all know and love took place over the weekend
and it is safe to say that we saw the good
the bad and the ugly when it comes to our favorite country stars
This year's festival included performances from Brooks & Dunn, Thomas Rhett, Rascal Flatts, Sam Hunt, Nate Smith and more
and it was hosted by iHeartRadio's beloved Bobby Bones
Another country superstar who was in attendance was Bailey Zimmerman
who was caught flirting (and failing) with heartthrobs Megan Moroney and Dasha backstage — yikes
In an oh-so awkward video shared to TikTok by iHeartCountry
Zimmerman is seen hugging both Moroney and Dasha backstage at the Moody Center in Austin
seemingly taking place just moments before the festival began
That song’s so f-----g good.”
Zimmerman twiddled his thumbs and awkwardly replied
“I love all of your stuff,” prior to telling Moroney that he’s excited for her soon-to-be hit song with Kenny Chesney
“You Had to Be There,” hitting music streaming services on Friday (May 9)
Moving around restlessly, country music lovers took to the comment section to poke fun at Zimmerman's mannerisms, accusing the "Fall In Love" singer of having a crush on either Moroney or Dasha (or both)
"Oh he loves Megan," one fan wrote
"You can tell he’s nervous around Megan." A third fan joked
Talking to girls is hard," prompting Zimmerman to address the comments with a statement of his own
"I GET NERVOUS AROUND PRETTY GIRLS," the 25-year-old eventually wrote in the comment section of the TikTok video
garnering a whopping 5,053 likes and 47 replies
PHILADELPHIA − For Phillies closer Jose Alvarado
it was one of his most harrowing escape jams
There he was in a bases-loaded, no-out situation in the top of the eighth inning on April 29 against the Washington Nationals
the Phillies clinging to a 3-2 lead at the time
Alvarado reached back and proceeded to strike out Josh Bell
Dylan Crews and Alex Call to get out of the inning without allowing a run in a game the Phillies would come back to win 7-6 in the bottom of the ninth
The crowd went crazy as Alvarado escaped the jam
It was the first time a Phillies pitcher had struck out three consecutive batters with the bases loaded in the eighth inning or later since 1968
Little did Alvarado know that he had help in the stands from Princeton Bailey
Princeton was caught on camera by the NBC Sports Philly broadcast standing on every pitch
imitating Alvarado's motion as Alvarado prepared for each pitch
Princeton made the bow-and-arrow stance as Alvarado pumped his fists and celebrated on his way to the dugout
Alvarado found out about the video afterward and said he wanted to meet Princeton
That happened on May 2 before the Phillies opened a three-game series against the Arizona Diamondbacks
46 jersey and beads representing Alvarado's home country
Alvarado wrote a long message to Princeton
"It was something really special," Alvarado said through a Phillies team interpreter
"Looking back at the moment and seeing him doing like I was doing during the game
It was something fun and encouraging message for him
and sharing some thoughts like that – never give up and follow his dreams."
“He just loves baseball," Troy Bailey said
I think he’s seen the Super Bowl like 50 times
"All he does is mimic the players that he sees
so that he can go out there and make an impact."
Celebrate the Eagles' Super Bowl win with our new book
That's why the moment was just as fulfilling for Princeton as it was for Alvarado himself
"It’s an amazing feeling," Alvarado said about escaping the jam

"It's the joy that he can bring to people," Troy Bailey said
"We have a lot of stuff going on in our culture and our society today
All the comments we had seen online − it just brought tears to our eyes because he’s a shy guy
And I think this is a perfect opportunity to do that."
It was just as nice for Princeton to meet Alvarado
and thanked me for my support," Princeton said
Then he recounted how what Alvarado told him mirrored what he learns during his karate lessons: "Never give up," Princeton said

I didn’t see the need for a “special” pen when I had plenty of daily pens I liked just fine (that I didn’t have to worry about losing)
But my mom told me how much she liked hers
and I could tell it meant a lot to her to give me something she enjoyed so much
and picked out a white and gold one that I thought was really pretty — and I have enjoyed using it every single day since I got it
although it’s currently on sale for $20 on Amazon
You can refill it with various types of Cross refills
such as black or blue ink and rollerball or ballpoint
but is also comfortable to write with for a long time
It flows smoothly and reliably and feels so nice gliding across the page
The pen also feels great in my hand, which is something you don’t really appreciate much until you have a pen that does! There’s something about the width and heft of it that makes it feel light and balanced in my grip. The pen sits on my planner and it’s what I use every day to write down my schedule and to-dos or to take notes while I’m on a phone call
I really love the look of it, too. It’s beautiful and makes even mundane writing tasks feel more special. When I’m writing something more unusual like a letter or thank you card
She lives nearly all the way across the country from me

2025 will mark the beginning of a new era for UConn Athletics with the official groundbreaking of The Bailey Student-Athlete Success Center on campus
The 70-year-old field house complex in the heart of UConn Storrs will serve a new generation of Huskies with renovations to house several sports programs and support student-athletes' academic needs and well-being
The Guyer Gymnasium on Hillside Avenue will be fully overhauled starting this spring
along with renovation of smaller spaces in the connecting Hugh S
Greer Field House and Wolff-Zackin Natatorium
Together, they will be known as the Bailey Student-Athlete Success Center in recognition of alumnae Dr. Trisha M. Bailey '99 (CLAS)
whose significant lead gift is among the largest from any UConn graduate
The project will bring athletics, research, academic support, sports medicine, and other programs together in one facility to build upon each other in support of the student success journey, one of the mainstays of UConn's Strategic Plan
The renovations will also help UConn address Title IX equity requirements and add 50 to 60 more years to the useful life of the field house complex
which has been a mainstay in the campus core since it opened in December 1950
Earlier on Wednesday, UConn announced a transformative $15 million commitment from longtime supporters Denis and Britta Nayden that will establish The Nayden Center for Academic Excellence within the Bailey Student-Athlete Success Center
At the core of this transformative project
the 12,000 square foot academic center will become the home for holistic development
and well-being for every student-athlete at UConn
This comprehensive space will facilitate learning
The gymnasium will be renovated to house UConn's Student-Athlete Success Program (SASP)
which supports student-athletes with tutoring
post-graduation career or academic planning
The field house opened in December 1954 and has been used for many purposes since then
most recently as UConn's Student Recreation Center
Plans were envisioned to renovate it for another use after the new recreation center opened in 2019
but funding constraints and complexities of dealing with the COVID pandemic slowed those plans
In addition to housing the SASP and sports teams
the renovated complex will include additional space for UConn's Department of Kinesiology
The exterior also will be modernized with masonry repairs
access to public restrooms for events at Sherman Field
and a new roof and related mechanical equipment
The renovations also provide an opportunity for UConn to significantly improve the complex's green-friendly features, with plans to meet LEED Gold standards that complement UConn's Sustainability Action Plan to achieve carbon neutrality on campus by 2030

A demonstration school for preschool through fourth-grade children
the ELC not only provides small classroom environments with curriculum designed for hands-on learning
but it also provides Pacific students the opportunity to put theory to practice.
"I am a learner first and a teacher second
I wanted to be at a place where the students I worked with could have an example of the theories I was talking about and see them in practice."
Distinguished University Professor of Education
The ELC’s development and its growth continue to be among Bailey’s proudest achievements.“Pacific has supported this kind of dream
this vision I had many years ago,” Bailey said
“When I was able to get the grant and start the ELC
there were people who trusted me and trusted Pacific to try this new school and new place to learn
Now we don’t have enough room for all of the children who are interested and all of the parents who would like to bring their kids here.”What the ELC provides
and Bailey has tried to model in his classes
He experienced it firsthand in graduate school where he taught correspondence courses
The experience of education during the COVID-19 pandemic only confirmed that conviction.Distance learning and Zoom have their place and value
but can’t replace the in-person experience.
Sanchez’s degree is in education.“I’ve been supervising her student teaching and she’s amazing,” Bailey said
“I thought that I would like to stay here until the first student who leaves the ELC comes back and graduates from Pacific
Little did I know that it would be within the area of education
Watching this process through her eyes has been spectacular.”

news‘Backup Plan’ by Bailey Zimmerman & Luke Combs - Lyrics & MeaningBy Maxim Mower
‘Backup Plan‘ follows in a similar vein to the defiant, middle-finger-in-the-air battle-cry of ‘New to Country’, with Bailey Zimmerman offering encouragement to listeners across a rowdy, energising instrumental. A sea of electric guitars lead the way, with Zimmerman's charismatic vibrato and Luke Combs’ signature rasp complementing one another and accentuating the passion that permeates this earworm.
“So your back’s backed up against the wall
As far as I can see there ain’t no way to be
Bailey Zimmerman begins by stepping into the shoes of someone's who's feeling down-and-out, with the Illinois native addressing the listener directly as he advises them to push through the pain. The overarching message of ‘Backup Plan’ is to never give up on your dreams, with Zimmerman stressing that, if you really want it and work hard enough, you can make it happen - in the same way that he has.
If you got something to prove go on ‘n prove it
Tune out the doubters and all the closed-minders
If it’s in your blood, falling down ain’t enough
And gettin' back up, that’s the only backup plan you need”
Over the course of the rousing hook, Bailey Zimmerman and Luke Combs share their words of wisdom as they emphasise how the key to achieving your ambitions is, above all else, to keep going. They stress the need to remain focussed and not let others drag you down, before delivering the satisfying punchline, which revolves around the witty transition from “gettin’ back up” to “backup plan”.
But if you’re doing what you love and it kills you
Well, you can live with that all day long”
For Luke Combs’ verse, the ‘Beer Never Broke My Heart’ crooner zeroes in on the various ways in which detractors might try to slow down your trajectory to greatness.
He highlights that, although other people might try to place obstacles in your path, you should keep pursuing your dream. Combs implies that even if it “kills you” and makes you feel exhausted at times, it's easier to live with that, than to try and live with the ‘what if’ that comes with giving up. There's another clever play on words here, as Combs follows the lyric “it kills you” with “you can live with that”.
The duo are yet to explain how ‘Backup Plan’ came about, but when teasing the initial clip of the track in January, Zimmerman gushed, “BDAY SURPRISE FOR YALL...I don’t know when I’m putting this out but ITS A BANGER...Let me know what yall think”.
And gettin' back up, that’s the only backup plan you need
Yeah, gettin' back up, that’s the only backup plan you need”

It couldn’t have been easy for the Pittsburgh Pirates left-hander to put on a happy face early Saturday evening
He pitched perhaps the best game of his career
allowing only one run and two hits to the San Diego Padres at PNC Park
He struck out six and walked two in an efficient 89-pitch outing
and pats on the back from his teammates for his effort
Falter ended up with a no-decision as the Pirates lost 2-1 and dropped 10 games under .500 at 12-22
It’s four days into the not-so-very merry month of May
and the last-place Pirates are already nine games behind the National League Central-leading Chicago Cubs
and the Padres scored the winning run in the ninth inning when Fernando Tatis Jr
doubled and eventually scored on David Bednar’s wild pitch
Falter had every reason to be upset that the Pirates provided him with only one run of support
Yet he calmly answered questions from reporters after the game and scoffed at the idea that the no-decision was difficult to accept
“My job is to go out there and give our team the best chance to win
and I’m able to sleep easy and rest my head at night knowing that I went out there able to give this team a chance
What made Falter’s performance even more impressive was that the start of the game was delayed for one hour and 42 minutes because of rain
Falter tried to make the best of the situation
“I think I did my (pre-game) routine about three times today,” Falter said
“Just trying to stay locked in and ready as much as possible
Been playing on the East Coast for quite a while
Just got to try and stay as locked in as much as possible.”
The only run he allowed came on Manny Machado’s homer with one out in the seventh inning that tied the game 1-1
Falter otherwise mowed through a lineup stacked with eight right-handed hitters
Pirates manager Derek Shelton was impressed with Falter’s outing
“Challenging because you’re delayed … and then you go out and pitch as well as he did,” Shelton said
and he did a really good job of executing pitches throughout the entire game
It looked like it was a cutter or slider to Manny
I thought he was pretty much in total control.”
Falter couldn’t control the Pirates scoring only one run against five Padres pitchers
It’s been that way for the Pirates all season
In the rare times the Pirates score some runs
It has left the Pirates almost out of contention before Mother’s Day
There is little hope the Pirates will get better
but I have a good feeling that the boys are in here every single day working hard
not taking anything for granted,” Falter said
We’re going to turn this thing around pretty soon
and I’ve got full confidence in every single one that’s in this locker room.”
Falter is either a good teammate or delusional
Let’s give him the benefit of the doubt and say good teammate

Bailey Zimmerman tapped Luke Combs for a song one figures he understands very well
"Backup Plan" is a working man or woman's anthem with lyrics a dreamer can relate to
The younger of the two singers began teasing this song just after Easter, and they teamed up to sing "Backup Plan" at Stagecoach last weekend in California. Friday's video drop marks the large-scale debut, however, and the finished version is every bit as guitar-driven as their Instagram tease
"So if you got a fire don’t lose it / If you got a do or die dream do it / If you got something to prove go on and prove it / Don’t let nobody clip your wings," the men sing at the chorus
The play on words is that the only "backup plan" you should have is to get "back up" after life knocks you down
It's a simple message wrapped in simple production
with lyrics delivered by two guys seem to know that story well
Combs' ascent to country music stardom was pocked with doubters and doors slammed in his face
Zimmerman's early career failures are less known
but anyone who chased country music as a career has been told "no" once

Look for "Backup Plan" to be on a future project from Zimmerman
His last studio album was Religiously (2023)
but he's dropped promotional songs like "Holding On" and "New To Country" since
His last single was "Holy Smokes."
Zimmerman:So your back's backed up against the wall / And the band wagon's fallen right off / And you’re hearing all the talk about / Maybe you should think about / Whatcha gonna do if it don’t work out / It ain’t about if it makes sense / 'Cause if the boot do
it don’t fit / As far as I can see there ain’t no way to be / Somebody if you’re just gonna quit
Chorus:So if you got a fire don’t lose it / If you got a do or die dream do it / If you got something to prove go on and prove it / Don’t let nobody clip your wings / Keep your head down
keep on the blinders / Tune out the doubters and all the closed-minders / If it’s in your blood
falling down ain’t enough / To change who you were born to be / And gettin' back up
that’s the only backup plan you need
Combs:Well life’s got a lotta sticks and stones / And a blade that’ll cut you to the bone / But if you’re doing what you love and it kills you / Well
It's a simple message wrapped in simple production with lyrics delivered by two guys seem to know that story well.\nRead More

Chef Mashama Bailey, co-founder of The Grey restaurant
talks quietly in a corner of the commercial kitchen with Emily Mincey-Thorpe
who has cooked for Senior Citizens Inc.’s Meals on Wheels program for more than 20 years
then sniff the citrusy punch of deep-red ground sumac—the mise en place of ingredients measured into bowls and artfully arranged on a baking sheet
a spicy (but not spicy hot) dish anchored by a whole grain flatbread (the roti) that is common in Indian and Caribbean cuisines
Instead of preparing the dish for upscale diners
Bailey is showing the Meals on Wheels cooks how to mix the spices and coat the chicken to marinate overnight for the next day’s deliveries
Not often do Meals on Wheels clients receive lunches crafted by James Beard Award-winning chefs
but Bailey is in Senior Citizen Inc.’s (SCI) eastside kitchen to honor the elders as part of the year-long sixty-fifth anniversary celebration of Meals on Wheels in Savannah
“I think you always have to give back to those who have raised you
I think it’s a part of being a good human being.”
Bailey says she wants the light that often shines on her to shine on this team
headed by Director of Nutrition Adrianne Piacentini
who were all in the kitchen—as they are every day—by 5 a.m
to prepare 1,800 nutritious meals to be delivered by volunteers to often shut-in older adults across the seven-county service region
“They’re the real heroes in this story,” said Bailey
“and I’m just piggybacking on all the good work they’ve been doing.”
Sweet Life: Like fine wine, Georgia's Vidalia onion is all about the distinctive blend of water, air, soil
On Top: What shrimp dish proved victorious in the 2025 Ultimate Savannah Dish Challenge?
SCI has been doing that good work for 65 years
the three founders of SCI began packing a week’s worth of lunches and delivering them to older folks in the community who they knew were struggling to feed themselves
who has served as director of SCI for 25 years
The meals are made with the dietary needs of older adults in mind—think
low sodium and low sugar—but big on flavor
Even through the long Covid pandemic shutdown
SCI’s Meals on Wheels program continued to deliver
“We never missed a day,” says Lyons with evident pride
SCI joined the Meals on Wheels America network after it was formed in 1974 following the first national meeting of senior nutrition programs in Washington
Trained volunteers who pack and deliver meals also help foster community with people whose world’s have grown smaller because of age
the volunteers do wellness check-ins and connect their friends and neighbors with needed resources
SCI’s advisory board suggested inviting area chefs to share some of their signature recipes and techniques
co-owner of River Street Restaurant Group and advisory board member
demonstrated how to make the Irish pub’s corned beef and cabbage
Bailey did not hesitate to accept the invitation
Bailey followed in her parents’ footsteps and served as a social worker in New York City
they lose some of the communities they had surrounding them all their lives
Honoring the elders is a cornerstone of her culinary practice
and I do think that it’s really special to offer a variety to people who don’t often get out of the house
or who really don’t have a huge community that they interact with… So
we’re going to kind of expand the palate a little bit
“The great thing about this dish is it’s really high in flavor
but not high in sugar and practically no salt—It doesn’t complicate their diet.”
Max Barbee of the Collins Quarter at Forsyth will grace the kitchen this summer and Kelly Yambor with Elizabeth on 37th will devise a holiday dinner
Lyons has been so pleased with both the enthusiasm of the chefs—Bailey even volunteered to deliver meals—and the reception by their clients that she is considering weaving other area chefs into the mix as an ongoing part of the Meals on Wheels program

To share a memory of Bailey or leave a special message for her family
Robert Edmund Bailey was born on August 19
Minnesota to Charles and Adele (”Della”) Bailey
and having lived 92 wonderful years filled with laughter
After his father’s passing in 1940 they moved to Pipestone
where he attended Pipestone Public School and graduated in 1950
spending time at Camp Rucker in Alabama until serving nine months overseas during the Korean War
In whatever home they lived in (and there were many)
a photo was always hanging of Bob and his best Army buddy
showing their swagger in Korea on the hood of a jeep
He was always humble but spoke with pride of being in a racially integrated troop
one of the first under President Truman’s orders to desegregate the military
After Bob came home from the war and needed to make a living as a civilian
he applied for a job at Northwestern Bell Telephone Company based on his mother’s advice
and Bob found his professional home at Northwestern Bell
He held a variety of jobs over the course of his career with a common thread of making it easier for people to connect with one another
Bob married Darlene Patrick in Lake Benton
Minnesota and they built a wonderful family together
raising four kids in countless homes across Luverne
they upgraded their cabin on Pelican Bay in Ottertail
Though they made their way back home to Luverne in 2011
they cherished their years together in Ottertail and that is the location they chose for their final rest
and church were the foundations of Bob’s life
He served as Deacon of Luverne Presbyterian Church
Bob and Dar were very involved at the Methodist Church in Ottertail
Bob was a member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce
He thoroughly enjoyed (and was very talented at) spontaneous performances of Longfellow’s Song of Hiawatha
to the delight of his family and anyone in earshot
beating us all at cards - even if it was sometimes because he would peek at ours - and a good Brandy Manhattan
He celebrated big birthdays by water skiing and marked significant family events well into his later years by standing on his head
They went through nearly 70 years of life side-by-side and have been a model for what a loving partnership looks like
We will miss him terribly but are grateful for the wonderful life he lived and the legacy and lessons he leaves behind
and Michael (“Buddy”) Bailey Jr.; step-grandchildren
and Ashley (Shane Murphy) Monier; great-granddaughter
