The guaranteed money includes a $15,000 signing bonus and $100,000 guaranteed salary in 2025. Teams often use guaranteed money to win bidding wars over undrafted players following the draft. Baldwin, who is coming off a terrific senior season, was clearly a prioritized player for several teams, and the Packers used guaranteed money to get him to Green Bay. The Packers listed Baldwin as a cornerback, but versatility is his calling card -- he played over 700 snaps at free safety, in the slot and in the box for UNLV over his four seasons. Baldwin (6-0, 190) was a second-team All-Mountain West pick in 2024. He intercepted six career passes, including a career-high three in 2024. He also added 9.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks and 13 pass breakups during his standout final season. According to PFF, Baldwin played a team-high 945 snaps defensively for UNLV in 2024, producing 14 pressures and 27 stops while giving up 39 catches and a passer rating of only 77.3. He was terrific as a blitzer from the slot and made several tackles at or behind the line of scrimmage on quick screens and gadget plays. The Packers waited until the seventh round to take a cornerback and didn't draft a safety, so Baldwin will get a legitimate shot at making the 53-man roster or sticking on the practice squad as a rookie. If a cornerback, he'll battle the likes of Kalen King and Kamal Hadden for a spot on the depth chart. Baldwin ran the 40-yard dash in 4.50 seconds but didn't test well during the pre-draft process. At 190 pounds, he scored poorly in terms of both explosion (vertical leap, broad jump) and agility (short shuttle, three cone). His Relative Athletic Score as a cornerback was 5.16. The Packers announced the signing of Baldwin and nine other undrafted free agents on Friday. Packers Wire will have a full breakdown of the 10-player undrafted class next week. Woodland Hills’ Scoop Smith wins the 100 meters in a time of 10.78 seconds during the Baldwin Invitational on Friday. “If they forgot about me, they forgot about me,” Smith said. “I’ll wake them up at Wips.” Sidelined for a month with a hurt hamstring, Smith gave his opponents an early wakeup call Friday by winning the 100 meters at the Baldwin Invitational in 10.78 seconds. The time was more than a tenth of a second slower than his WPIAL-winning speed from a year ago, but this was Smith’s first invitational meet of the season. The WPIAL championship is May 14. His top goal this spring is to get there with a healed hamstring. “I was kind of babying it, just trying to get it back to 100%” Smith said. “I wasn’t rushing it. Today was the perfect day to kind of have my debut. It’s a good track meet – a lot of good sprinters out here – so winning means a lot to me.” Smith cruised into the finals with a 10.98-second run in the preliminaries, besting all 97 other runners. But barely breaking the 11-second mark had him feeling some doubt about whether his top speed was still there. In the six-person final, Smith’s closest competition came from Elizabeth Forward’s Connor Stokes (10.91) and West Mifflin’s Damarius Day (11.01). Both were a step behind. “I was kind of a little nervous, especially in the prelims when everybody had a bad time,” Smith said. “Seeing my (10.98-second) time was a little nerve-wracking. Like, ‘Am I that slow now?’ Going out there and winning (in the finals) definitely helped my confidence a lot.” There was rain and an extended lightning delay between the 100-meter prelims and final, forcing Smith and others to sit and wait. A couple of finalists — McKeesport’s Kemon Spell and Seton LaSalle’s Khalil Taylor — opted out. Both are sophomores and Penn State football commits. “I kind of laid down and tried to take a little nap,” he said. “When I came back out here, it was a good 30 to 40 minutes of stretching and exercise, trying to loosen up.” A 5-foot-7, 150-pound multi-sport athlete, Smith earned all-conference honors as a wide receiver in football and was an all-section guard in basketball. But it was his love for football that slowed down Smith’s track season. He injured his right hamstring competing at a seven-on-seven tournament in Atlanta for team 412 Elite. He skipped some other big track meets this spring — including the Butler Invitational a couple of weeks ago — hoping to avoid a repeat of last season’s frustration. A year ago, Smith also sustained a hamstring injury during the regular season. He went on to win WPIAL Class 3A titles in the 100 and 200 meters but aggravated the injury at the meet and missed the state championships. “I definitely thought about (last year) a lot,” Smith said. “Even coming into today, it was something in my head, just thinking, ‘What if I hurt it again? What if I mess up?’ But God got me through it, so I’m excited.” Smith said he hasn’t tried to change much about his on-track training from a year ago, believing that wasn’t a factor in his injury, but has focused on getting healthier overall. “It’s just a lot more about taking care of my body,” he said. “Exercising. Icing. Eating the right things. I definitely took account of that. Mind you, I’m still not the best eater. I still eat fast food sometimes, but I’m trying to work on it.” His personal best in the 100 meters was a 10.62 at the Butler Invitational last spring. He won the WPIAL title in 10.64 seconds and wants to defend that title in 12 days. “I’ve probably only about a week of track workouts,” he said. “I’m going to keep doing that. Hopefully by the time we get to Wips, I’m going to be a whole different person.” If Javascript is disabled browser, to place orders please visit the page where our photos are available to purchase Sign up now for NowHab's weekday newsletter Δdocument.getElementById( "ak_js_1" ).setAttribute( "value" Privacy Policy | About Our Ads This article brought to you in partnership with the Hawai‘i Journalism Initiative — a Maui-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization The Baldwin High School softball team is headed to the Division 1 state tournament on Oʻahu this week with a roster packed with seven super seniors led by star 5-foot-7 infielders Bailey Nagasako and Briana Maio-Silva The duo both signed to play for the University of Hawai’i Rainbow Wahine the first time two players from the same Maui Interscholastic League school class have done so Get more stories like these delivered straight to your inbox Sign up for the Hawai‘i Journalism Initiative's weekly newsletter: After graduation at War Memorial Stadium on May 19 the other five seniors also are planning to play softball in college Camryn Nakamura plans to play at George Fox University in Oregon; C&S Wholesale Services, a grocery supplier, sent the state a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification last week, alerting them of their plan. Starting July 4, 490 employees at C&S Wholesale Services will begin to be laid off from this distribution center in Baldwin, according to this notification sent to the state. “This layoff will be permanent, and the Company’s operations at the location will permanently cease. None of the affected employees are represented by a union, and bumping rights... However, some employees may be offered the opportunity to transfer to other Company locations.” None of the affected employees News4JAX was able to contact wanted to speak on camera or over the phone. But one agreed to answer our questions via text. The man said he has worked for C&S Wholesale Services for almost 20 years, and he is close to retirement. He said it’s very disappointing to know they are closing. He said the employees found out last Tuesday. He went on to say he thought the layoffs were coming, and that “C&S is a great company with great benefits. I really enjoyed working for them.” He said the employees were offered severance pay and the opportunity to transfer to another location.” We reached out to the Mayor of Baldwin and other town officials, asking them what losing the plant would mean to the town. We are waiting to hear back. News4JAX also reached out to C&S Wholesale Services for comment on this story. We’ll keep you updated if we receive a response. February's cuts, led by Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency, hobbled Veterans Affairs, and included the termination of 15 employees who operate the Veterans Crisis Line the specialized 988 Suicide and Prevention line dedicated to veterans After Baldwin became aware of those fired employees she urged Veterans Affairs Secretary Doug Collins to reinstate them "We do believe the folks who were laid off have been reinstated but it takes constant vigilance with this administration because they have been running roughshod with their personnel and funding actions," Baldwin said By the end of February, the Department of Health and Human Services slashed 10% of SAMHSA the federal health agency stripped $1 billion from SAMHSA in federal grants allocated to states during the pandemic This slashing away of SAMHSA appears to have served as a prelude to HHS' restructuring plan to roll the mental health agency into a new agency within HHS called Administration for a Healthy America Baldwin has vowed to fight against the elimination of 988's specialty line for LGBTQ+ youths, emphasizing that it is Congress, not HHS, that decides how funding is spent. In late 2021, during the initial phase of production, cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was killed when Baldwin accidentally discharged a prop gun that he thought only had blank rounds in it It's a tragedy that has reshaped the conversation about on-set safety regarding firearms But in part because Hutchins' family is benefiting from the proceeds generated by the movie it has officially been released both in theaters and on digital marketplaces Matt Hutchins and his son will benefit financially from whatever profits are to be made from the movie anyone who is curious enough to watch it will do so from the comfort of home the film centers on a 13 year-old boy who is left to fend for himself and his younger brother following the death of their parents in 1880s Wyoming He journeys to Mexico and connects with his long estranged grandfather (Baldwin) after being sentenced to hang for the accidental killing of a local rancher Marshal and a determined bounty hunter are in pursuit A trailer for "Rust" debuted online in late March Souza and the producers were in an enormously difficult position of having to finish and release this movie despite the on-set tragedy Souza was actually hit by the bullet that killed Hutchins with the director suffering serious injuries as well The movie is now out in the world and everyone involved can try to move on from this horrible tragedy. Even if the movie had a more robust marketing campaign, it's easy to imagine that most people wouldn't want to engage with "Rust" in light of what happened. It's a messed up situation, particularly since the Hutchins family stands to benefit from the release. While rehearsing a scene for Rust in New Mexico in 2021 Baldwin pointed a prop gun that was supposed to have blank ammunition Instead a live bullet from the gun went off As part of a wrongful death settlement, Hutchins' husband, Matt Hutchins, became an executive producer on the film with Souza returning to finish as the director and I'll be very honest — I was a wreck through most of the second go-round," Souza told NPR last fall before the final film premiered at the Camerimage Film Festival in Poland Souza said he wanted to complete the work he started with Hutchins though he understands the lingering anger over Halyna Hutchins' death "Alec Baldwin continues to increase my pain with his refusal to apologize to me and his refusal to take responsibility for her death." Baldwin's representatives declined to comment to NPR about the film's release or criticisms made by Halyna Hutchins' family in Ukraine said it remains in litigation in New Mexico the family issued statements sent out by the publicity firm 42 West "I watched my daughter's stunning film twice," wrote Olga Solovey "I was so happy for the success of my daughter because it was filmed so beautifully I would want everybody to watch it because it was the dream of my daughter and she would want people to see the talent She had a very specific style of cinematography and she saw the world differently She could see and capture how the sun sets and how animals behaved who she called "Gala:" "The film is amazing even the weather in the frame transfers through the screen I would want Gala to be remembered not for the tragedy but for her talent and hard work." the human cost and the tragedy of it overshadows everything and is so much more important than any movie," he told NPR "I guess I just wonder if people will sort of see past that and engage with it as a film or if it will be a thing where people just can't ever separate the movie from what happened during its filming." While the actor isn't commenting on the film these days he has referenced the shooting on that reality show as well as various other times over the past years Here are some of Baldwin's statements dating back to the 2021 "Rust" tragedy: After the incident, Baldwin issued this statement on X formerly Twitter: "There are no words to convey my shock and sadness regarding the tragic accident that took the life of Halyna Hutchins mother and deeply admired colleague of ours I’m fully cooperating with the police investigation to address how this tragedy occurred and I am in touch with her husband Alec Baldwin tells ABC's George Stephanopoulos 'the trigger wasn't pulled' when the gun dischargedThat December, in his first public interview following the incident, Baldwin told ABC News' George Stephanopoulos Baldwin also said he had fitful dreams as a result of the incident "I wake up constantly where guns are going off I might have killed myself if I thought I was responsible In August 2022, Baldwin spoke with former CNN anchor Chris Cuomo on his podcast and complained about harsh press coverage I mean anything Murdoch and anything (New York) Post.” The actor said the people on hand that day "know what happened And the people that are talking loudest about what happened or speculating about what happened were not on the set of the film – theLA Times The Hollywood Reporter, they talk on and on and on about ‘what if this?’ and ‘what if that.' " Alec Baldwin tells CNN he is losing Hollywood work as a result of 'Rust' lawsuits, backlashLater that same month, Baldwin told CNN filming had compromised both his ability to work and his health “I got fired from another job yesterday,” he said I’ve been talking with these guys for months and they told me yesterday we don’t want to do the film with you because of this.” The overall stress In spring 2023, "Rust" resumed filming in Montana. In November 2024, the completed movie had its premiere at a Polish film festival. Baldwin did not attend. That December, Baldwin was asked by Variety about whether he had seen or intended to see the final cut The "Rust" shoot "was the most difficult thing I've ever dealt with in my life." He added that he wanted "all things 'Rust' to just leave my windshield." He and Hilaria were just "trying to get the wind in our sails a New Mexico judge stunned prosecutors by dismissing the charges against Baldwin The defense had argued the state had withheld evidence including live ammunition that was critical to pleading Baldwin's case After an emotional reaction in court where he appeared to sob in the arms of his wife, Baldwin took to Instagram to thank his friends and fans "There are too many people who have supported me to thank just now," Baldwin wrote you will never know how much I appreciate your kindness toward my family." In the debut of 'The Baldwins,' Alec Baldwin says the aftermath of the 'Rust' shooting left him bereft and driftingIn the first episode of "The Baldwins," which aired this past February Baldwin was seen talking about "Rust" with his wife “I can’t even believe we’re going through this,” he said "I always feel more in pain about you than me but when I think of what it’s done to you and how much it hurt you and everything By Malikka NationPublished: May 2025 at 12:04 PM CDT|Updated: 8 hours agoEmail This LinkShare on FacebookShare on X (formerly Twitter)Share on PinterestShare on LinkedInSPRING HILL (WSMV) - More than three decades after the murder of Pamela McCall the man accused of taking her life has been convicted of first-degree murder The Spring Hill Police Department said her identity remained unknown for nearly a month Ron Coleman was the Spring Hill Police Department officer assigned to investigate Pamela’s death SHPD said Coleman promised Pamela’s mother that he would not rest until he caught her daughter’s killer and Tommy Goetz of the 22nd District Attorney’s Office led the investigation A major breakthrough came when DNA evidence collected at the scene in 1991 was received by the Tennessee crime lab and a profile match connected Clark Baldwin It also connected him to the murders of two women in Wyoming and Ron Coleman was able to let Pamela’s mother know of Baldwin’s arrest but she died before the case went to trial On May 2, 2025, a Maury County jury finally found Clark Baldwin guilty of killing McCall Coleman placed handcuffs on the man he had pursued for decades with cuffs from the Spring Hill Police Department This conviction helped bring some closure for Pamela’s brother and son Both expressed their appreciation for the Spring Hill and all the different agencies involved for not forgetting their mother and sister We can now rest assured that he will NEVER be back on the streets of our world Baldwin will be extradited to Wyoming to face similar charges and I stand ready to continue to assist in the case for as long as needed I am at peace for the first time in 34 years Here are instructions on how to watch WSMV4 live on various platforms. USA TODAY reached out to his lawyers for comment Hutchins was made an executive producer on “Rust” when filming resumed in Montana in 2023 amid myriad civil and criminal lawsuits sparked by the shooting A source close to the film told NPR last fall that none of the original producers will share in profits as part of a wrongful-death settlement reached between Hutchins and Baldwin whose criminal charges were dismissed last year on a legal technicality Rachel Mason, Hutchins’ longtime friend and the director of the Hulu documentary “Last Take: Rust and the Story of Halyna,” echoes that those who screen “Rust” will be helping her friend you are supporting the family,” she tells USA TODAY For those who returned to finish “Rust” when filming resumed but they learned by being there they could do something for her,” Mason says The documentarian watched a lot of Hutchins’ Western footage in compiling her film and here on ‘Rust,’ she was operating at her pinnacle level,” she says but this film is exceptional in many ways.” Mason describes a range of “striking wide shots with dust creeping up across the landscape shots of horses lingering just so,” she says “Joel (Souza) made room for Halyna’s art.” Hollywood sets have seen accidents and deaths among cast and crew alike the final project does eventually get released actor Vic Morrow and two child actors were killed on the set of “The Twilight Zone” movie when a helicopter crashed during filming The production continued despite a barrage of lawsuits In 1993, actor Brandon Lee, son of legendary martial artist Bruce Lee, died on the set of “The Crow” when a prop gun loaded with dummy bullets struck Lee with enough force to cause fatal internal injuries The movie was completed using special effects and a stunt double While Baldwin could likely have shelved the film after Hutchins' death it does appear the decision to resume was driven largely by her family's desire to see the project completed for both emotional and financial reasons Baldwin has not himself commented on why he, as star and producer of “Rust,” opted to resume production after the shooting. Matt DelPiano, the actor’s representative, said in an email to USA TODAY that Baldwin, currently starring in the TLC reality series “The Baldwins,” would not be commenting about the release of “Rust.” The decision to return to the directorial helm of “Rust” was difficult for Souza, who is reminded daily of the tragedy. He sustained shoulder injuries when the bullet that killed Hutchins also struck him. “It ruined me,” he said in a Vanity Fair interview last summer But in returning to "Rust," he found some peace and a lot of purpose “Halyna was on my mind every single day,” Souza wrote to USA TODAY Just how seriously they took this and what it meant for them to be there I always thought it was important to make clear to people why I decided to come back which was to honor my friend and finish what we started together.” Things you buy through our links may earn Vox Media a commission in limited theatrical release and available digitally And maybe one day in the distant future it will simply be another movie another western to be watched and enjoyed or un-enjoyed for what it is or at least wants to be too.) Though everybody seems to understand what transpired the young Lucas is nevertheless sentenced to be hung for murder a legendary aging outlaw who hasn’t been heard from for years emerges to break his grandson out of jail and whisk him across the border marshal whose own son is bedridden and dying Others seeking to claim the thousand-dollar reward independently join the hunt That’s a pretty standard western-movie setup but Souza’s script has a novelistic expansiveness that serves the film well This isn’t really a chase movie but rather a rambling multicharacter drama in which every character attempts to hold on to some version of what they might consider dignity Marshal Helm has a variety of new-fangled techniques to aid in his work: He does forensic analysis of wounds and he maintains files on his perpetrators and crimes But his attentiveness to his profession is matched by his inability to confront the cruelties visited upon his own life: His young son is dying and when he visits home he can’t look at his sick boy or at his wife’s face “I knew a long time ago there ain’t no God.” The sadistic Lang basks in such evil and partakes of it a little for they continue to pay my bills,” he says when we first meet him By all accounts, Souza himself was not sure if he wanted to complete the movie after things came to a halt halfway through in 2021. Even if he wanted to, investigations and trials consumed most of the following months. The film, he says, was ultimately finished partly to honor Hutchins’s work. “The family wanted it completed,” Souza told The Guardian recently “I’d been repelled by the thought of going back And I couldn’t live with the idea of someone else doing it.” That’s a hell of a dilemma to find oneself in Young actor Patrick Scott McDermott came in to replace Brady Noon who had originally been cast to play Lucas Hopkins (who was also in Souza’s previous feature replaced Jensen Ackles in the role of Helm McDermott in particular is a real find: He conveys toughness well beyond his character’s years scared and alone and eager to get back to life the way it was Hopkins makes the most of his character’s sad but the slight agitation in his voice never quite matches the elegiac Rust himself doesn’t have much of an emotional arc and even a couple of monologues about his past can’t quite pierce the enigma I wondered if he was going to turn out to be a ghost But there’s less of him in the movie than you might think which may or may not have to do with how the project transformed We can sense the film’s desire to get back to the other characters The diffuse narrative gives the film genuine weight at first but it also can’t quite collect itself into something resembling a vision Everybody starts this story alone — and they end it alone The relationships and the conflicts that might define or crystallize or complete these characters’ journeys never really materialize aside from a couple of pro-forma gunfights that feel airlifted in from another Password must be at least 8 characters and contain: you’ll receive occasional updates and offers from New York Where were you when Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast 20 years ago this summer If it's painful to answer that question and you know the devastation the storm left behind And the thought of that kind of legendary storm you're not as scared," says Jason Beaman Beaman works with the National Weather Service in Mobile and considers himself one of your hurricane helpers he and his team can lead you in the right direction to reach those people and to try to give them information ahead of time to reduce that anxiety when the storm comes so they know what to do to keep them and their family safe That's what it's all about." Beaman joined other members of the hurricane preparedness community Friday for Baldwin County Emergency Management Agency's annual tropical weather seminar in Robertsdale And as the 20th anniversary date of Hurricane Katrina quickly approaches they are very aware that Baldwin County has seen a surge in new residents most who have never experienced living in hurricane territory when Hurricane Katrina struck the Gulf Coast Baldwin County had a population of just more than 162 thousand the population was more than 253 thousand it's reasonable to say there are one hundred thousand more people living in Baldwin County today than when Katrina came calling Across the state line in Escambia County Florida more than 29 thousand new residents have arrived since Katrina with all of these new residents in Baldwin County and here along the Gulf Coast there comes another problem when a storm approaches How do you get all of these people out of harm's way you may be doing it on a highway system that hasn't grown quite as much as the population "You have only so many roads to get out and so much time to do it People need to know that is part of the equation," says Baldwin EMA Director Tom Tyler It's an equation that is placed before him prior to every evacuation More people mean more time is needed to get out But make that prediction too early and then the storm goes somewhere else "You may be doing it unnecessarily if the storm doesn't cooperate," he says and we want the storm to cooperate by not coming here!" he says people don't like to be unnecessarily displaced." But that is a decision he and his team must make Michelle Jeans with Baldwin EMC reminds us "We cannot emphasize enough the impertinence of making a plan and testing it and having those conversations in your own homes and with your family members ahead doff time," she implores "Don't wait until the storm is in the gulf or is imminent Go ahead and start having those conversations now."
