ARLINGTON, Texas -- The Texas Rangers selected catcher Tucker Barnhart from Triple-A Round Rock before Wednesday night's game against the Athletics and designated pitcher Dane Dunning for assignment
Barnhart was added to the big league roster after catcher Kyle Higashioka reported hamstring tightness
He signed as a free agent with Texas in December after hitting .173 in 31 games with Arizona last season
Dunning made his only appearance with the Rangers this season Tuesday
pitching the final three innings in a 15-2 win over the Athletics to earn his first major league save
He made five starts for Round Rock before being recalled before Tuesday's game
was voted the Rangers' major league pitcher of the year in 2023
going 12-7 in 26 starts and 35 appearances with Texas going on to win the World Series for the first time in franchise history
and Mark Watson are vying for the Position 2 seat on the board of the Hillsboro School District.Courtesy of the candidates
.st1{fill-rule:evenodd;clip-rule:evenodd;fill:#2a2a2a}By Julia Silverman | The Oregonian/OregonLiveMaureen Barnhart
a retired teacher and former president of the Hillsboro teachers union
an software company founder and the current board chair
for the Position 2 seat on the Hillsboro school board
Here is how both candidates responded in their own words to questions posed by The Oregonian/OregonLive
Responses have been lightly edited for style and to meet word limits
Q: What do you consider the two most pressing issues in the Hillsboro public school system to be and why
How will you address these as a board member
Barnhart: The uncertainty of both state and federal revenue holds direct and indirect implications for already underfunded schools
A specific example: the Hillsboro district absorbs over $8 million to meet the needs of students eligible for special education
The state caps support for special education at 11% of the population
the reality is 14% (about 500 students) are eligible
School board directors and all advocates for public education must monitor the Oregon Legislature and hold them to their stated budgetary goals: to protect core services
Watson: The lingering effects of staying out of school during the pandemic on student mental health and behavioral issues
I’ve heard both union partners say: “Work shouldn’t hurt.” I agree
We need to maintain our focus on educating the whole student
As the federal administration struggles between eliminating the U.S
Department of Education and weaponizing it
I stand with the governor and the Oregon Department of Education in saying that districts in Oregon comply with state and federal laws
The Hillsboro school district will continue to be proud of our dual language
migrant education and other programs which support the vibrant diversity of our community
Q: Enrollment has declined about 8% since 2019
Barnhart: First work with legislators to remind them that the current situation is dire and any proposed tax credits cannot be entertained
Tell them to be honest about the manipulation of funds (e.g
a review of how the corporate kicker is actually figured into K-12 funding
the fact that the 2023-25 school funding was cut by $500 million) and cease justification of pulling funding from the general school fund
Be open to legislation that can give flexibility to districts (such as House Bill 3652
making class size a mandatory item of bargaining)
all of the district staff have not had salary increases that keep up with the cost of living
So in bargaining we try to balance as much of a salary increase as possible
while keeping as many caring adults in the building as possible
The focus on an admittedly flawed procedure for calculating current service level has left districts very little left to cut
At a general fund allocation of $11.36 billion
We have to do what we can to protect the impact on classrooms
having taught K-8 for a total of 38 years: in a community school
as an instructional aide in the West Union School District (now part of Hillsboro) and for 29 years in the Hillsboro district
I served as the president of the Hillsboro Education Association
including bargaining contracts and supporting bond measures
Watson: I am a member of the legislative staff for an Oregon state senator
I was the founder of a small software company that created computerized video analysis for Major League Baseball and National Hockey League teams
Barnhart: Associates degrees in English and biology
San Antonio Community College; bachelor of science in conservation of natural resources/environmental education
Berkeley; Oregon Basic Teacher Certificate
Watson: Bachelor of science in communications from Northern Illinois University
Master of arts in media arts from the University of Arizona
I was an adjunct lecturer at the University of Arizone and Johnson C
an historically Black university in Charlotte
Q: Do you have children in the Hillsboro School District
benefitted from education in the Hillsboro district
A grandson attended middle school prior to COVID; the family has since relocated out of the district
Watson: My kids completed their full K-12 experience in Hillsboro schools: Tobias Elementary
My daughter graduated from Oregon State University
My son recently graduated from the University of Illinois at Chicago and is now back in Hillsboro
Q: What’s your opinion of the performance of Superintendent Reiman
How would you hold him accountable in the future
Travis Reiman was a colleague who advocated for his English Leaners of Other Languages students who transferred to the alternative program
I interacted with him during contract negotiations and also as union president
We did have lively conversations in those interactions
Accountability means awareness and understanding of the operations of the district
It means measuring the morale of the staff
It means ensuring the wise use of limited resources
It requires ongoing and active communication with the superintendent
Watson: Superintendent Reiman is off to a good start
I look forward to watching his career play out to the benefit of students
His experience in the district has helped smooth some of the transitions you see in a first time superintendent
His depth of experience in one place also means he needs to continue learning from best practices on display outside our district - I think he knows that
Superintendent Reiman was part of a team that created the Hillsboro School District strategic plan
The metrics for his tenure are very public and widely available
Q: How will you balance the needs of students with those of teachers as represented by their union in instances where those may be at odds
Barnhart: The environment and working conditions of all educators and support personnel are the learning conditions for the students
To bring needs to the attention of all of the stakeholders is to advocate for the students as much as for the staff and ultimately for amore successful school district
As someone who has been engaged in contract negotiations
I know that it is rare to find a situation in which all parties aren’t focused on the best interests of the community
which requires all concerned to keep open minds
I haven’t seen that kind of conflict happen
In serving on bargaining teams for both our licensed and classified unions
I always see our union partners centering student needs in the conversation
one of the reasons that during bargaining both sides refer to Hillsboro as unique and why we’ve had such a long period of successful three-year agreements
Q: Lawmakers are considering a bill that would mandate off and away policies for mobile devices in schools statewide
What do you think is the best way for your school district to enforce such a policy
Barnhart: The student handbook currently lays out that very policy: off and away
The issue has moved from being just about distracted students to an acknowledgement of phones as instruments for bullying and harassment
Hillsboro counselors and classroom teachers can continue their work with students to increase their self-esteem
In all cases of bullying and other endangerment
adults involved in the schools and extra-curricular activities can offer an environment of support and positive reinforcement—because phones and harassment will still exist outside of school
Watson: I don’t think that is the role of a board member to make day-to-day operational decisions
We set policy and the administrative team should determine how toimplement it
Not to endorse one particular company - but I think the Yondr pouch method has proven pretty effective elsewhere
I really don’t like the idea of policing it at the classroom level
It’s unfair to put our educators in that position
I’m open to discussion on whether to allow access at lunchtime based on grade level
Q: Do you think school consolidations will be necessary in your district in the next five years
what is the best way for your district to navigate that often-fraught decision-making process
Barnhart: Hillsboro recently completed necessary new construction
New growth in Washington County could lead to boundary changes
and the community will certainly be involved
The recognition of the role that public schools play in the neighborhoods will weigh into decisions
a budgetary action that sadly only serves to meet a “bottom line” should be taken into consideration when school metrics are sought
because such inconsistencies will send those involved to the amygdala of their brains as they adjust to change
Watson: I don’t see that happening in Hillsboro
While our enrollment is down overall (like everyone in the state/nation)
especially where new construction investments have been made
We did recently see the end of a historically successful K-8 program
That was partially due to enrollment decline and partially specific interest
We may have to look at changing some of the attendance areas for specific schools
Through transparency and in cooperation with our community
we have recently completed some adjustments while minimizing heartache
academic outcomes in Hillsboro are still below pre-pandemic levels
the governor and lawmakers have proposed an accountability overhaul that would give the state new powers to provide turnaround coaching to school districts and direct spending of up to 25% of a school district’s budget if students aren’t making growth
Barnhart: Assuming that such accountability comes with conversation and collaboration
and recognition of factors that might impede student academic achievement
Currently the state declines to fully fund public education
and districts across the state are talking about reducing positions
Educators are committed to supporting students
but with a sense of belonging and well-being
it is difficult to imagine that the district would be expected to redirect spending
and the Legislature will be confronted with the consequences of inadequate funding—another reason to support the proposal
But I think putting the focus on that 25% figure is misplaced
We are likely years away from that requirement coming into play and ODE says it’s a measure of last resort
My job in the Legislature has given me the ability to track this issue pretty closely
What I really appreciate is the wide range of stakeholders convened by the governor to address the topic
The shared accountability will flow both ways and I see expectations changing for both school districts and the Oregon Department of Education

6:12pm: Texas officially announced the Barnhart selection and Dunning’s DFA
They did not place Higashioka on the injured list tonight
This will give the active roster a 14/12 split in terms of position players and pitchers
signed a minor league deal with the Rangers in the offseason
He has been playing for Triple-A Round Rock thus far
hitting .246/.354/.391 in 20 games for that club
He appeared in each big league season from 2014 to 2024
so this will be his 12th straight campaign if he gets into a game
He has a career .241/.318/.351 batting line
production which translates to a wRC+ of 78
with a .208/.286/.255 line and 58 wRC+ since the start of 2022
which is why he had to settle for a minor league deal
Defensively, his framing marks have been subpar for his entire career, but better recently. With both Baseball Prospectus and Statcast
his early-career framing was considered poor
but closer to average over the past six years
His blocking and throwing have been more consistently strong
He’ll step in as Heim’s backup until Higashioka is ready to return to action
Dunning absorbed the final three frames as they went on to win 15-2
He allowed two earned runs on four hits and two walks
He’ll now head into DFA limbo and will likely be placed on waivers
he was passed through outright waivers unclaimed
which allowed the club to keep him as non-roster depth and bring him back this week
He and the club avoided arbitration in November
No club was willing to claim him and take on that salary just over a month ago
not too surprising since he had a 5.31 earned run average last year
He posted a 5.40 ERA in five starts for Round Rock before being called up this week
Since he has more than three but less than five years of service time
he will have the right to elect free agency if he clears waivers again
doing so would mean forfeiting what’s left of that money
so he would likely accept as he did last month
Most clubs operate with the 13-pitcher maximum at all times but the Rangers should be okay at 12 for a short spell
Since Dunning was the only reliever to pitch last night
Perhaps another pitcher will be added if Higashioka goes on the IL
Barnhart might be bumped off the roster for a fresh arm
Texas Rangers Transactions Dane Dunning Tucker Barnhart
Nice to see Barney still kicking around MLB ten years after his debut in Cincinnati
He should need just a few weeks to reach 10 years of MLB service time
Didn’t realize Dunning was mostly down at AAA this season
a club may take him for the bullpen even if they don’t like him in a flex starter role
@ pro-rated $2.6m arbitration salary I think he might get claimed
Bruce always keeps a stash of 30+ year old back up catchers
At least Dane Dunning earned his first career save in his only appearance this year
I think they could really use someone who can pitch 2-3 innings and save the rest of the bullpen
The Orioles may claim him before the Phillies have a chance
which exemplifies the sad state of our SP right now
How can it be a save situation when he entered the game ahead 12-0

who served as MIT’s chancellor for more than seven years before becoming provost in 2022
will return to the faculty following a sabbatical
Barnhart led a variety of efforts to enhance academics and research at the Institute during her tenure as provost
which bridged a transition between two MIT presidents
She drew from deep-rooted experience in the MIT community
first as a graduate student and then as a faculty member for more than 30 years
serving in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and in the MIT Sloan School of Management
with affiliations in the Operations Research Center and the Center for Transportation and Logistics
Barnhart is only the second MIT administrator, following Julius Stratton, to serve as both chancellor and provost
She is also the first woman to serve in each of these roles
“It has been a privilege to serve and to support our community’s efforts to lead in education
MIT’s provost is the Institute’s chief academic and budget officer
responsible for leading efforts to establish academic priorities
managing financial planning and research support
and overseeing MIT’s international engagements
The provost works closely with the president
executive vice president and treasurer (EVPT)
and many other leaders to recruit and retain the best talent and then
“create the conditions for them to thrive and do their best work at MIT.”
“Cindy has been a wonderful partner in thinking and doing
and I will be forever grateful for having been able to tap her knowledge of the Institute’s people
practices and institutional systems,” Kornbluth wrote in an email to the MIT community
Rafael Reif named Barnhart provost as he was stepping down as MIT’s 17th president
and collaborative spirit.” Her appointment provided the Institute with continuity and helped to sustain momentum during the transition and the first years of Kornbluth’s presidency
“A good provost is constantly solving problems over the widest range of scales, thinking at the level of systems and structures but also digging deep when needed. Cindy has brought discipline
and it's been a privilege to work with her,” says Faculty Chair Mary Fuller
As she proceeds with a long-planned sabbatical
Barnhart will focus on a project she has been working on as provost
The effort centers around creating a flexible
affordable educational experience and curriculum in order to dramatically increase the size of the nation’s science- and technology-based workforce
As chief budget officer, Barnhart worked closely with EVPT Glen Shor, Vice President for Finance Katie Hammer, and colleagues across the Institute to provide essential resources for the Institute’s education and research enterprises. She cites as points of pride implementing new central support for MIT’s under-recovery system
National Science Foundation (NSF) fellowship tuition and stipend shortfalls
and expanding the number of Office of the Provost professorship chairs to 230
“The review of the Institute’s budget process that we launched last year is critical to the Institute’s effective response to emerging financial constraints,” Barnhart says
“It’s about providing our community with access to the tools needed to develop strategic
creative ways to deploy our resources so that
we can help people do what they came here to do — discover
all in service to the nation and the world,” she says
Responding to calls for more faculty involvement in searches to identify faculty leaders in the Office of the Provost
Barnhart established best practices for search advisory committees
these faculty-led groups assisted with the appointments of Vice Provost for Faculty Paula Hammond
Vice Provost for Open Learning Dimitris Bertsimas
Vice Provost for International Activities Duane Boning
MIT Sloan School of Management Dean Rick Locke
and Interim CEO and Director of the Singapore-MIT Alliance for Research and Technology (SMART) Bruce Tidor
Barnhart convened a search committee to identify a new leader to steward MIT’s research enterprise
which informed President Kornbluth’s appointment of Vice President for Research Ian A
“MIT’s next provost is going to be working with an exceptional team,” says Barnhart
“The Provost’s Office is positioned to ensure the faculty have what they need to make big impacts in research and education.”
Barnhart took several steps to provide her leadership team and faculty more broadly with professional development and career advancement opportunities
She standardized appointment and reappointment terms
and formalized reappointment review processes for deans and vice provosts
new programs were launched on establishing positive department climates
generating impactful research funding proposals
and fostering effective graduate student mentoring
“Cindy has always cared greatly about the faculty experience, and this deep regard is evident in all that she has done,” Hammond says
“She has sought to understand how we might better build a supportive environment that fosters faculty success and has invested in meaningful programs and policies that help to address faculty needs while developing tools for faculty to accomplish their professional and leadership goals.”
we need that same collective embrace of data and transparency
Advancing 21st-century education and research
Barnhart is committed to making MIT’s education accessible and affordable to a much broader set of learners
Barnhart launched the next phase of MIT Open Learning
which involves ambitious plans to extend MIT’s commitment to providing global access to the Institute’s brand of education
passion for quality education in the world
Cindy has been a great partner in reshaping the strategy for open learning,” Bertsimas says
“I look forward to continuing our partnership in the years to come.”
As computing has become increasingly integral to many disciplines, the creation of interdisciplinary computing courses through The Common Ground
degrees that blend computing with another field
and interdisciplinary computing faculty hires have expanded the forefront of MIT education and research
the MIT Schwarzman College of Computing has been at the center of these efforts
“Embracing the college’s efforts to broaden and deepen MIT’s world-leading strengths in interdisciplinary education and research is
dean of the MIT Schwarzman College of Computing
By design, the Institute’s strategic initiatives in climate, humanities, and life sciences also lean into this interdisciplinary approach
Chief Innovation and Strategy Officer Anantha Chandrakasan
and many other faculty on the development of these efforts throughout her tenure.“It has been a privilege working with Provost Barnhart and President Kornbluth to advance the Institute’s wide range of strategic initiatives,” says Chandrakasan
“With a sense of urgency that these initiatives demand
Provost Barnhart was instrumental in defining the vision for these missions
promoting broad engagement from the MIT community and beyond while paving critical pathways for seed funding and fundraising
It would have been impossible to launch these initiatives without her inspiring ideas
After earning her PhD in transportation systems in 1988 at MIT
Barnhart joined the operations research faculty at the School of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Georgia Tech
She returned to MIT four years later in 1992 and has been at the Institute ever since
which she has continued throughout her time in leadership roles
focuses on the development of optimization models and methods for designing
“That is one of the reasons I have enjoyed serving as provost
a role in which there certainly is no shortage of opportunity to apply my decision-making and problem-solving mindset.”
Barnhart became associate dean of the MIT School of Engineering in 2007 and served as acting dean in 2010-2011. As chancellor
she was responsible for “all things students” at MIT
She also participated in strategic planning
Barnhart has been an undergraduate adviser and has supervised graduate and undergraduate theses of students across the Institute
including in the departments of Civil and Environmental Engineering
and Electrical Engineering and Computer Science; in the Engineering Systems Division; in the MIT Sloan School of Management; in the Operations Research Center; and in the Center for Transportation and Logistics
She has taught subjects jointly listed in these units on optimization and operations research
with applications to transportation operations
Kornbluth will work with a group of faculty members drawn from each school and the college to help her in selecting the next provost.

The Reds (17-15) won Thursday's game against the St
Louis Cardinals by a final score of 9-1 and the bullpen was outstanding (more on that later)
The Cincinnati Reds split a rain-soaked series versus their bitter division rival this week and remain two games above .500
The Reds' bats finally came alive after being virtually shutout during the day-night doubleheader on Wednesday
Cincinnati now welcomes the Washington Nationals to town for a three-game set and are looking to pull even with the NL Central Division-leading Chicago Cubs
Unfortunately for Elly De La Cruz, he'll need to begin a new streak. The Reds superstar shortstop watched his career-best 14-game hit streak come to an end during Thursday's series finale against the Cardinals
De La Cruz was 19-for-54 during those 14 games with a .352/.429/.481 slash line
The speedster also swiped six bags during his hit streak
De La Cruz's 19-game on-base steak is still intact
Old friends reunited on Thursday night in Arlington when Tucker Barnhart was activated ahead of the Texas Rangers game against the Athletics. The former Reds' fan-favorite, who'd signed a minor-league deal with the Rangers this past offseason, was hanging the signs for Tyler Mahle during the Rangers' 3-0 loss
Barnhart's contract was selected from Triple-A Round Rock on Wednesday after Rangers catcher Kyle Higashioka was diagnosed with an intercostal strain
The Rangers have since placed Higashioka on the IL
meaning Barnhart is likely to see plenty of time behind the plate for Texas over the next month or so
The Reds bullpen has undergone a makeover the past couple of days. Alexis Diaz was optioned to Triple-A Louisville after a disastrous performance during Game 1 of the Reds doubleheader against the Cardinals on Wednesday afternoon
the Reds bullpen has sat down 35 hitters in a row
Brent Suter, Lyon Richardson, Graham Ashcraft, Taylor Rogers, and newcomer Luis Mey deserve all the credit
Suter and Richardson — who's since been sent back to Triple-A Louisville — put up zeroes after Chase Petty was lifted during the the third inning of his MLB debut on Wednesday
Ashcraft came on in relief of Andrew Abbott after Thursday's rain delay and was un-hittable
Rogers kept the base paths clear in the eighth
and the rookie hurler Mey took care of the Cardinals in the ninth inning with high-heat
It's been utter domination for the Reds relief corps; something that manager Terry Francona hopes to see continue when the Nats come to town on Friday

Texas (AP) — Two-time Cy Young Award winner Jacob deGrom struck out seven over six scoreless innings for his first win in more than two years and the Texas Rangers had their best offensive game this season to beat the Athletics 15-2 on Tuesday night
The 36-year-old deGrom (1-1) had gone 737 days since also beating the A’s on April 23
then made only one more start in his debut season with the Rangers before Tommy John surgery
After the full squad was required to be on the field for batting practice before the game

Last season, after six consecutive appearances at the CrossFit Games, Amanda Barnhart failed to qualify for the 2024 Games, finishing 14th at the North America East Semifinal.
Barnhart’s shoulder wasn’t fully healed at the time, and she felt mentally exhausted. Additionally, she was on antibiotics for an infection in her armpit that had returned for the third time, indicating to her that she was overly stressed and that something was wrong with her body.
After Semifinals, Barnhart returned home and went back to training, but still didn’t feel like herself.

Last summer, Barnhart committed to decreasing her training intensity and slowing down to see how it would affect her recovery
She continued to go to the gym but lengthened her workout durations to keep a lower intensity. She backed off from many of the classic CrossFit movements and occasionally included bodybuilding training
But then Barnhart received an invitation to the Rogue Invitational, an opportunity she didn’t want to turn down. Part of her was excited, but another part thought, “Oh my gosh, I have to train for Rogue,” she said, laughing.
To prepare, Barnhart increased her intensity once more and felt much better than she had before heading into Semifinals.
One day, she did some sprints at the track and couldn’t believe how good she felt.
She credited the performance to the fact that she had finally given her body a chance to recover.
View this post on Instagram A post shared by Dr. Amanda Barnhart PT, DPT | Move Better (@amandajbarnhart)
Barnhart finished 15th at the Rogue Invitational and once again returned home
Jessica Cahoy (formerly Griffith) – a two-time individual and three-time team Games athlete – had been posting about and selling training programs for a while
highlighting the value of lower-intensity training
Barnhart began following one of Cahoy’s training programs
and her body and mind immediately responded positively to the lower intensity
Barnhart said she would finish her training session and want to lie on the couch all day because she “was trashed.” Suddenly
she was able to train five or even six days a week without feeling beat up.
which only reinforced for her that what she was doing was precisely what her body needed
Most recently, Barnhart joined Cahoy as a coach, and the two teamed up to create a new program, LIIT, which combines lower-intensity interval training and strength exercises
lower-intensity conditioning workout that typically lasts 20 minutes
The purpose of this is to prepare the body for the strength session that follows
they encourage people to walk between sets during the strength portion of the workout
“so you move the whole hour,” Barnhart said.
And although LIIT might sound like the antithesis to CrossFit
and both CrossFit and LIIT can actually coexist harmoniously.
I did start to struggle with recovery a lot,” Barnhart said.
The purpose of LIIT isn’t to stop people from having hard training days; rather
it provides a program that shows people it’s not always effective and can even be counterproductive to “push through” all the time
and many of Cahoy and Barnhart’s subscribers do a combination of CrossFit and LIIT
“But I also just want people to know it’s OK to slow down a little bit.”

Quintana ended up retiring from baseball after the 2023 season without advancing past Double-A
Barnhart was still a fan favorite in Cincinnati

He spent a half-season with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2024 before being released in July and returning to the Reds on a minor league deal
he may soon get the chance to face his former team when the Rangers visit the Tigers for a three-game series from May 9-11

Barnhart holds the NWSL record for most regular-season shutouts (52) and was the league’s first-ever Goalkeeper of the Year in 2013. She is also the only goalkeeper to win back-to-back NWSL Championships, leading FC Kansas City to titles in 2014 and 2015, and the first to reach 100 career regular-season appearances.
Her professional journey began in the WPS, where she played for FC Gold Pride, winning the 2010 championship, and the Philadelphia Independence. Barnhart transitioned to the NWSL in its inaugural season with FC Kansas City, where she anchored the defense through the club’s most successful years. When the franchise relocated to Utah as the Utah Royals FC in 2018, Barnhart remained a key figure before returning to Kansas City with the Kansas City Current.
Beyond her club achievements, Barnhart earned 54 caps with the USWNT, winning Olympic gold in 2008 and 2012.
Nicole Barnhart’s career stands as a testament to excellence, leadership, and longevity in women’s soccer. As she steps away from the pitch, her impact on the game will remain indelible, both as a player and an inspiration to future generations of goalkeepers.

The University of Kentucky is preparing for the expected approval of the House settlement by restructuring its athletics department governance with the creation of Champions Blue
Mitch Barnhart and UK Athletics announced on Thursday
It’s a shift that will provide greater financial flexibility as the school accounts for an additional $50 million in the athletics budget — including the $20.5 million needed for revenue sharing with student athletes
UK is moving away from its traditional amateurism model as the state of college athletics transitions to one that includes professional qualities
They will be leaning on pro sports experts along the way as the school looks to stay one step ahead of the curve with the athletics department operating under its own umbrella
separate from previous university structures and the 20,000-plus employees it has
Additional expenses include increased costs for scholarships, travel and food. The goal is for UK Athletics — currently self sufficient — to continue contributing financially to academics with scholarships and construction projects. The new budget will be unveiled in June.
“We’ve had a lot of thoughts of things we wanted to do to produce new revenue, and some of those we’re just not capable of doing in our current structure,” Barnhart continued. “… We talked about public-private partnerships. We’ve got some thoughts, and you’ve heard other (schools) talk about business districts and things like that. And those are conversations that are all on the table but really difficult to perform in our current structure. This gives us more flexibility to do that.”
Other creative funding strategies could include fan experiences and premium seating at events, along with using campus space around athletic venues.

Just this week, the House settlement was placed on hold due to roster limits, Judge Claudia Wilken announced
She is giving attorneys 14 days to make tweaks
pushing for athletes on current rosters to not lose their scholarships or spots on teams
“We are closely reviewing Judge Wilken’s order,” the NCAA responded in a release
“Our focus continues to be on securing approval of this significant agreement
which aims to create more opportunities than ever before for student-athletes while fostering much-needed stability and fairness in college sports.”
The settlement would provide former athletes $2.8 billion in back-pay for lost NIL rights beyond current revenue-sharing to college athletics
The new model for UK Athletics was proposed Thursday and will be reviewed by the UK Board of Trustees on Friday

Junior Izzy Barnhart led Wheaton to victory with a game-high 4-goals as the United snapped a 3-game losing streak with their 10-6 win on the road against St
scoring a pair of goals in the first quarter as Wheaton (2-4) jumped out to a three-score lead within the first 10 minutes of play
“The momentum early was really helpful,” said a smiling Barnhart
Barnhart seemed to have no problem pushing the pace in this one
She consistently fought through the first check and battled her way to the crease
putting shots on the Spartans net all throughout the evening
“She's got one of the hardest shots on our team
and so working to get her hands free to catch and shoot is a great move for us,” said Wheaton coach Kyle Sullivan
Sullivan was happy to see the way his team set the tempo in the first half of the ballgame
“We have had a couple of tough games recently,” added Sullivan
so the mindset was controlling the ball as much as we could
Wheaton senior Addison Losey also made significant contributions on the offensive end for the United with a 3-goal performance of her own
they weren't really seeing cutters,” said Losey
“I think our two man game is really strong
We had a lot of nice X cuts and we like working together to get open … we had a lot of fast breaks as well
Losey opened the scoring with a quick strike at the 10:06 mark in the first quarter
before adding an additional pair of goals in a five-score second quarter that truly broke the game open for the United
as they entered the intermission with an 8-3 advantage
“It's really valuable to have a strong middy
the more that a few of the players are starting to gel and find each other more often
It's really starting to come together for us.”
