Resident Evil and Battlefield fans will want to check out this stunning new FPS coming soon
It’s not every day that we hear of a game that can be comparable to the likes of Resident Evil and Battlefield
such as the game that is the topic of today’s discussion
Traditionally, Capcom’s Resident Evil is known for its slow-paced, third-person horror, with a few exceptions, of course. Whereas EA’s Battlefield series is known for its high-octane
So what is the game that combines those two aspects, I hear you ask? As clearly shown in the trailer above, that game is called Hunger, developed and published by the indie team at Good Fun Corporation
“War has ravaged Europe, but something far worse now grips the continent. A Bacterium of unknown origin has twisted the land, leaving behind only ruin, fear, and something far more sinister,” reads the synopsis of the game on Steam
“In this PvPvE first-person extraction RPG
high-risk expeditions where every step could be your last…”
players will progress and level up alongside their teammates
as well as being able to customise their characters
Working together and crafting the best items for the task at hand
is of the utmost importance if you and your team are to escape this hell alive
Hunger is also playable on your lonesome and as a duo or as a trio team
squads will arrive at a later date when the full version of the game is released
but it is expected to enter early access on Steam soon
be sure to wishlist it to keep updated on its progress

WASHINGTON—There were a lot of big vehicles—some amphibious
with fresh camo paint—on display at the Modern Day Marine conference this week
But the smaller ones with the ability to drive themselves around stole the show
“I think you're gonna see the Army and Marine Corps try to automate more
So you're going to see more remote operations
you'll see more autonomous capabilities,” Chuck Bunton
Oshkosh Defense’s associate vice president for program management
That is especially true for the Indo-Pacific region, he said: “It'll definitely help [with] distributed fires and expeditionary advanced base operations in the island chains with unmanned platforms.”
The NMESIS weapons system sits atop an uncrewed Joint Light Tactical Vehicle and is part of the Corps’ Remotely Operated Ground Unit for Expeditionary Fires program
The Corps has 15 prototype vehicles for ROGUE-fires and is expected to get the first six of 48 low-rate initial production units this June
Full-rate production is expected by early 2027
the Marine Corps is leading the way here by fielding an unmanned JLTV out in the Pacific,” Bunton said
ROGUE-Fires is “everything that you would expect from your JLTV
all the mobility and the payload capacity,” but without a human operator in the truck
Marines’ top goal: 3 amphibious ready groups at sea
Marines aim to buy more carrier-based F-35s, fewer VTOLs
The vehicle is equipped with a full autonomy stack so it can drive itself
along with other features like being able to follow a crewed vehicle down a path and for remote control operation
the Marine Corps is sticking with leader-follower and manual remote control options for now
Human operators are in the loop for both ground mobility and firing operations
NMESIS follows a vehicle with an installed Leader Kit
and the leader vehicle will be crewed with a human operator
remote (wireless leader/follower and tele-op) and garrison (wired),” said Morgan Blackstock
a spokeswoman for Marine Corps Systems Command
a fire control operator in the Mobile Command Vehicle (MCV) plans the mission and orders the launcher to fire,” she said via email
And while the vehicle has an autonomous suite
the aim is to have NMESIS graduate to using the leader-follower mode next year
“While autonomy technology is rapidly evolving and the NMESIS program is planning for future improvements
the current focus is enabling the leader/follower mode in the systems that will begin fielding in 2026 and ensuring Marines are trained to operate and employ this new technology effectively.”
Autonomous tactical ground systems aren’t new
The Army has been testing autonomous ground vehicles for several years
I rode in an autonomous truck convoy of Palletized Load System trucks often used for resupply
The robot trucks were part of the Army’s now defunct leader-follower program
which aimed to develop and test autonomous vehicles that could help keep troops safe during supply runs
The tech lives on in the Army’s GEARS program and the Marine Corps’ ROGUE-Fires program
Oshkosh showed off the vehicle complete with a logistics payload instead of missiles at Modern Day Marine and plans to put the tech on other
“This technology most certainly could be scaled to other vehicles. And Oshkosh proved that with our partners Forterra and Raytheon recently at Project Convergence,” Bunton said
referring to the Army’s annual tech demonstration in March
The company tested crewed and uncrewed versions of the Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles on various fires missions
“We're proving that it not only works on this platform
but it can be scaled to our other portfolio vehicles
Earlier this year, Oshkosh was awarded a $30 million contract modification to integrate next-generation autonomy
such as self-driving technology fueled by Forterra
While there’s a demand for autonomous ground vehicles
there’s also a tug-of-war between what the tech can do
“The state of technology is mature enough now that the tech is combat relevant,” Phil Cotter, Forterra’s head of tactical robotics and contested logistics
“It's matured to a point where to close that last 10% or 20% gap of performance and relevance
It's going to be captains and corporals who wear uniforms and carry guns for a living who are going to determine whether or not this stuff works
what kind of modular mission payloads are the ideal ones to close the most meaningful near-term CONOPS.”
And their utility in land battles is seemingly clear: send the robot vehicles to places that are too dangerous for troops to go
I got to teleoperate a system located in Idaho
I struggled to get it out of a ditch and also drove it too close to obstacles
But it operated just fine once it was given a mission to get from one point to another without my help
Those difficulties help make the tactical case
but there’s some hesitation in fielding the self-driving parts
One of the challenges with fielding autonomous ground vehicles is clearly defining exactly what autonomy means
which can lead to the military asking for something it doesn’t need or delaying adoption because existing tech fails to meet an amorphous ideal
There seems to be a desire for solutions that ring a “little bit science fiction” where the platform is “so fully autonomous that it's doing things on its own,” such as adjusting its mission profile based on information gleaned from the environment instead of fielding existing tech with software that “gets better and better and better” over time
director of business development for Rheinmetall
Give a robot truck a mission and it “can be performed and executed very accurately now,” Scheib said
Rheinmetall’s system allows operators to push a button on the front of the vehicle to activate a “follow-me” mode,” Scheib said
That tells the robot to follow the service member
and it just turns around and goes back to where it started.”
There’s also a call for weapons systems on autonomous ground vehicles
“We are in the process of delivering remote-control weapons stations as an additional payload to those vehicles that they purchased
And this is all in an effort to get it to a program of record where they really start using the vehicles and mass numbers,” Scheib said
But even as Marine Corps leaders are calling for more robots and autonomous platforms, there’s still a hint of trepidation
“Modernization can't exist without autonomous platforms,” Gen
said Thursday in a keynote speech that also touched on his “digital immigrant,” tech-hesitant status
“You can drive a Tesla and never put your hands on the wheel,” Smith said
because it frees up a human to do other things
that is how we're going to stay ahead of the adversary: to be lethally autonomous.”
That hesitation can also translate in the field
Some feedback on autonomous technology overall has been that more than one person will take care of a system even though that’s not necessary
a unit may have “three people looking after one vehicle,” Scheib said
“We've catered our command and control software so that you can have one person operating three vehicles or up to 10.”
The truth is: the more the technology is used—and fielded—the easier and more natural it will be to integrate them into operations
terrain has more physical challenges and is more likely to suddenly change—a thatch
or a dust kick up can all impede how the robot sees or interacts with its environment
which sometimes is hard to navigate through,” because sensors can’t always differentiate between that from a wall
“We've mitigated that with certain profile sets so that it can be programmed to drive through that tall grass
But the person that's operating has to understand…I can drive through it.”

during a bilateral meeting with Janet Yellen
treasury secretary (not pictured) at the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank in Washington
by deputy director of the Kyiv-based Center for Economic StrategyVisiting Washington during the International Monetary Fund and World Bank Spring Meetings this April felt surreal
but the air was heavy with the uncertainty of the tariff war
President Donald Trump's administration’s criticisms of international institutions
and the far more immediate tension of geopolitics between Ukraine and the U.S
As reported by the Guardian, IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva quoted the movie Bridge of Spies
emphasizing the need to stay calm and focused amid chaos
lawyer in the movie tells a Soviet spy that he has been appointed to defend him
“Would it help?” The metaphor also fits Ukraine’s situation perfectly: in 2025
it is once again navigating perilous waters
where Trump has actively played an intermediary role
These developments far overshadowed the typical Spring Meeting business
Washington 2025 was therefore less about public speeches and more about navigating a complex maze of alliances
The progress on the critical minerals deal brought cautious optimism. Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal stated that the latest draft (signed on April 30) better aligns with both Ukrainian and EU priorities: crucially
previous Western aid to Ukraine won't be retroactively counted as debt
and no existing Ukrainian revenue streams will be diverted to fund new projects
But memories of the last draft's public leak keep everyone on edge
remains the major stumbling block in Ukraine-U.S
While Donald Trump appears determined to end the war at any cost
it is the Ukrainian people who are expected to bear that cost
The complexities of the relationship were even spotlighted at a special event at the Spy Museum
where former National Security Council spokesperson Emily Horne remarked
“We do not have a strong track record of appeasing dictators” — a sentiment that resonates deeply with most Ukrainians
all conversations turned to the extraordinary scene that had unfolded: after a scandal at the White House
a hastily organized meeting between President Volodymyr Zelensky and Trump at Pope Francis's funeral became the new focal point
and it fuelled new hopes in a lot of hearts
Ukraine's Finance Minister Serhiy Marchenko was also in Washington
pursuing the task of securing external funding for 2026
His mission once again underscored Kristalina Georgieva's steadfast commitment to a “no-alarm” approach
the IMF emphasized the familiar refrain: the need for stronger revenue generation and disciplined fiscal policy
these prescriptions have become an almost ritualistic part of Ukraine’s dialogue with international lenders
concerns over Ukraine's debt sustainability continue to loom large
threatening to narrow the space for additional aid
both the IMF and the World Bank remain skeptical about confiscating frozen Russian assets
With new grants increasingly scarce and debt sustainability concerns limiting access to additional loans
advancing the effort to seize Russian assets remains a critical task Ukraine cannot afford to let slip
the Innovation Days at Ukraine House unfolded in stark contrast to the grim reality back home
Ukrainian officials and guests networked and participated in panels
Yet even as ideas were exchanged and opportunities discussed
many attendees kept refreshing their phones: that very morning
While bombs fell on those who remained at home
Ukraine’s delegation in Washington tried to balance hope for the future with the horror unfolding in real time

pushing the line of contact deeper into Ukraine and peace terms will get worse
The election of U.S. President Donald Trump changed U.S. policy toward Ukraine from “as long as it takes” to seeking a negotiated peace settlement
These negotiations will be driven by the battlefield reality
The side holding the biggest advantage gets to dictate the terms
This gets more complicated if there is no ceasefire during the negotiations and the battlefield remains dynamic
Belligerents may conduct offensive operations while negotiations are progressing to improve their bargaining position
such as during the Korean and Vietnam wars
losses and quality of strategic leadership are critical to the outcome of negotiations
They have staked their reputation on this conflict and with it
The Global South and the multipolar world order is waiting in the wings to take over
Failure to achieve victory has the potential to fatally undermine that order and remove the West from global leadership
which it has enjoyed for the last several centuries
The war in Ukraine is now attritional. These types of wars are won not by capturing terrain, but by careful management of resources
preserving one’s own while destroying the enemy’s
The exchange rate of losses must not only be favorable to one side
but it must also account for the total reserves available to the enemy
The path to victory lies in the ability to replace losses while fielding new forces and sustaining the civilian economy and morale
Replacing losses isn’t simply putting men into uniforms and providing basic training
Army units must be collectively trained at multiple levels
Losing too many soldiers resets the unit cohesion until it's incapable of any maneuver except defending a trench
Fighting is often centered on the same patch of ground with only a little movement until one side is no longer able to sustain the conflict
The Spanish Civil War and World War I are prime examples
These wars were mostly stationary right up to the last moment when one side capitulated
The Ukrainian war is running along the same trajectory
Strategic leadership is vital because it guides the resource management of the conflict
Failure to identify strategic goals and wasting resources on irrelevant objectives causes the odds of victory slip away
Below is a brief summary of each side’s resource losses and capacity to maintain the conflict to date
Once the initial blitzkrieg failed to deliver regime change in Kyiv in the first two months
Russian political and military leadership appears to have grasped the attritional nature of the conflict and the importance of preserving resources
They have gone out of their way to preserve their combat capabilities and on three occasions in 2022—at Kyiv
Kharkiv and Kherson—gave up land to save soldiers
These defeats were public relations nightmares
who were used to form the core of the new army
the system provides a year of basic training to every qualified male in Russia
he only needs a few months of individual refresher and collective training
Ukrainian soldiers must be trained from scratch
This gives Russia a massive advantage in forming new units
The challenge would come if volunteers ran out
as there is very little political appetite in the country for another round of mobilization
These kinds of situations likely doubled the casualty rate inside the Russian Army
expending valuable resources in a self-inflicting wound
Congress and did not want to deal with the optics of losing this symbol
it is impossible to militarily justify this colossal waste of men and resources
The Ukrainian army has had some successes where military objective was put first
The Kharkiv offensive was masterfully planned and executed
The careful planning and preparation allowed the Ukrainian army to achieve the element of surprise
the “Antiseptic” Telegram channel has one of the few databases that compare current and prewar satellite photos of select Ukrainian cemeteries
The limited nature of cemeteries may result in undercounting; for example
the city of Kharkiv has multiple cemeteries
Soldiers buried in other city cemeteries are not counted
The chart below averages out the percent of prewar population lost by locality and then compares it to the total population of Ukraine
likely another 769,000 wounded who will never recover enough to go back to the front
This matches the Jamestown Foundation’s estimate
another 400,000-600,000 wounded recovering in hospitals
leaving 1 million to 800,000 still in the field
Without a miraculous source of experienced
the Ukrainian army may collapse in the next six to 12 months
but it won’t solve the problem of motivation
These are unlikely to make an impact where Storm Shadows failed
Ukraine has the technology but does not appear to produce in sufficient numbers to match the Russians
With mounting manpower and equipment shortfalls
it is difficult to see how Ukraine can hold on without the direct intervention of Western
Especially with Ukrainian political leadership continuing to prioritize PR instead of military objectives
This could help to explain why Trump’s team is so keen to end the war in Ukraine
Ukraine still holds cards at the negotiating table
But time is running out for the Ukrainians
Ukraine has significant problems with manpower
The balance of power is shifting in Russia’s favor
Ukrainians will start facing the collapse of the front
This outcome is more likely given the negative trend in decision making by Ukrainian political leadership
Unless they begin to conserve combat power
Ukraine needs a ceasefire now to gain breathing room for restoring its combat power and improving its standing at the peace negotiations
The current trends on the battlefield are more supportive of the U.S
a chance to contain the fallout from the Ukrainian war to Europe and to preserve its global leadership
buying off select NATO members with territories to split the unity of alliance
This will reduce Ukraine to a landlocked rump state based around Kyiv
The real question is: Can Ukraine gain an acceptable
risking a military collapse and a far worse Russian dictate later
This article was republished with permission from Russia Matters
Today, there are only three global naval powers: the United States, China, and Russia
able occasionally to deploy further afield
If Donald Trump wants European states to look after their own collective security
Britain might be better off keeping its handful of ships in the Atlantic
although still able to inflict severe damage on Ukraine
few people talk about the real Russian naval capacity to challenge Western dominance
how this will increasingly come up against U.S
That is an incredible message to our adversaries
It is an incredible show of unity to our allies and our commitment to NATO.”
almost half of Britain’s fighting ships embarked from Portsmouth and Devonport to much fanfare
“the world’s most advanced air defense destroyer,” has been in the dry dock since 2017
I’ve just finished reading “The Royal and Russian Navies, Cooperation, Competition and Confrontation,”written by Britain’s former Naval Attache to Moscow
retired Principal Lecturer at the Defence Centre for Languages & Culture at the UK’s Defence Academy
The authors argue that while we have focused most of our attention on Russia’s army in Ukraine
And thinking about Russia as a relic of its Cold War self is a huge mistake
laboring under sanctions and the tight fiscal constraints of the war in Ukraine
Russia’s naval yards have built new vessels non-stop for the past decade
Russia has taken delivery of 27 submarines
Many more are under construction and will arrive by the end of this decade
The Royal Navy, on the other hand, has continued to shrink in the teeth of defense cuts, and each new efficiency drive makes it smaller. The two Albion-class landing vessels
and negotiations about their sale to Brazil are at an advanced stage
The increase in defense spending to 2.5% of GDP will mostly be swallowed by the MoD’s bloated procurement programs that are typically delayed and always over budget
It will not produce a rapid conveyor belt of ship-building that has seen Russia overtake Britain at a rapid pace since the Ukraine crisis started
The book also underlines the importance of dialogue as a key component of deterrence and reminds the reader of the significant naval cooperation that took place between the two navies after the Cold War
When HMS Battleaxe sailed into Baltiysk in 1992
the first Royal Navy ship visit to modern-day Russia
it discovered the remnants of the Soviet Navy
The Russian Navy had become the main beneficiary of Russia’s state armament program
and a Russian admiral was saying the UK’s decision to give up the Nimrod Maritime Patrol Aircraft in 2010 made his “life easier.”
practically all direct engagement between the Royal and Russian navies was cut at the instigation of the UK government
the UK and Russia have no serving military attachés in their respective embassies in London and Moscow for the first time since 1941
Our modern generation of seafarers are now only able to view Russians through binoculars
Britain has literally watched a modernizing Russian navy sail off into a distant horizon as we’ve criticized Russia from an ivory conning tower
From his ridiculous photo op on the deck of HMS The Prince of Wales, it’s not clear that Keir Starmer has understood that the world now contains just three global naval powers: the United States of America
Russian naval ambitions have now grown in the High North (Arctic) and in the Pacific
While Britain’s modest Carrier Strike Group steams east, Russia has already been active in joint naval exercises with China and Iran
as well as ship visits to Myanmar and other locations
Britain has practically no scope to control Russia’s increasingly assertive naval posture in Asia
This decade-long lack of engagement — not just by Britain but by America pre-Trump — has left us sailing blind on how Russian doctrine and tactics have shifted in the forge of war in Ukraine
It's clear to me that in this new world order of military burden sharing between America and Europe
Britain would be better placed keeping its handful of ships in the Atlantic
while America increasingly comes into contact with the Russian Navy in the Pacific
In President Donald Trump’s first 100 days
his administration has arrested and detained
visa holders and other non-citizens in the U.S
for speaking out against Israel’s military actions in Gaza
That’s not how the administration frames it
but that is the connective tissue in each of the cases
“We’re either a free society governed by the Constitution
Paul was specifically addressing the Antisemitism Awareness Act which would codify a Trump-era executive order declaring that antisemitism is a prohibited form of discrimination in schools and universities
and would use the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s working definition of antisemitism in assessing cases of antisemitic discrimination through the Department of Education
Critics say that it would allow the government to conflate criticism of Zionism and the Israeli government with antisemitism and serve as a dangerous tool to shut down free speech
Paul wondered aloud if campus police would be used in enforcing new speech rules
As The Jewish Chronicle reported after the vote was postponed
Paul was part of “a testy hearing on Wednesday that covered objections to the bill ranging from whether a Christian would be barred from saying that Jews killed Jesus
to the acceptability of making contemporary political allusions to Nazi Germany and even the comedy of Jerry Seinfeld and Joan Rivers.”
Paul cited the landmark 1969 Brandenburg v. Ohio case
in which Ku Klux Klan member Clarence Brandenburg was convicted under two Ohio laws of allegedly inciting violence against Jews and African-Americans with his speech
Brandenburg claimed that his punishment violated the First Amendment
“Brandenburg was a Nazi and an antisemite and he said horrible things,” Paul said
the Supreme Court ruled that you can say terrible things.”
The senator compared the American concept of free speech with Europe’s recent crackdowns on speech
“That’s unique about our country,” Paul said. “In Europe
if you call a boy who thinks he’s a girl a boy
If you say something about the Holocaust in Europe
Do we want to replicate Europe’s speech laws in the U.S.
“We’re codifying what Europe did to speech
The Congressional debate is taking place as non-citizen students have been snatched away ostensibly for what they said or wrote about Israel
the former co-president of Columbia University’s Palestinian Student Union
of using “threatening rhetoric and intimidation” against Jewish students during a protest on campus in 2024
A 34-year-old permanent resident of the U.S
who was born and raised in a Palestinian refugee camp in the West Bank before moving to the U.S
Mahdawi was detained by ICE agents while at his naturalization hearing in Vermont on April 14
He was never formally charged with a crime
We don't know if the other non-citizen students detained by immigration authorities in the last month have actually been involved in threats or intimidation
because the administration has been deliberately vague about its reasons for detaining them
Secretary of State Marco Rubio says the administration has the right to deport non-citizens when their "presence and activities in the United States would have serious adverse foreign policy consequences and would compromise a compelling U.S
He is invoking a little-used clause in the Immigration and Nationality Act
which stipulates that the Secretary of State can determine what kind of activity rises to the level of having “potentially serious adverse foreign policy consequences” for the country
Others are still in detention awaiting hearings
Columbia University graduate Mahmoud Khalil claims he was arrested on March 8 for a speech he gave during campus protests, though he too was never charged with anything. A judge has said the administration’s attempt to deport him will be decided in court
He has been accused by Department of Homeland Security officials of spreading Hamas propaganda
something his family and supporters vehemently deny
the detainees’ support for the Palestinians’ plight and criticism of Israel’s war in Gaza appear to be the primary reasons behind their arrests
But if America did ignore the First Amendment and allowed rigid UK-style speech laws instead
Do the purveyors of the new antisemitism speech legislation on Capitol Hill know that this could boomerang on them when their ideological opponents someday get back into power
As journalist Glenn Greenwald observed about the antisemitism legislation
“this is not a hate speech code applying to foreign nationals
It's a hate speech code that applies to American citizens
where people can be punished for the expression of ideas on college campuses cheered for by the right wing faction that has long claimed there's nothing worse than hate speech codes and other forms of suppression of ideas on college campuses.”
Carving out one country in the world and making it forbidden to criticize its government is the complete antithesis of the Constitution’s protections and a betrayal of the American tradition
The First Amendment allows anyone on American soil to critique the U.S
but now condemning a foreign government could land you in jail or deported to another country
One would think that putting America first might include putting its First Amendment first
The U.S.-Ukraine minerals agreement is not a diplomatic breakthrough and will not end the war
but it is a significant success for Ukraine
both in the short term and — if it is ever in fact implemented — in the longer term
It reportedly does not get Ukraine the security “guarantees” that Kyiv has been asking for. It does not commit the U.S. to fight for Ukraine, or to back up a European “reassurance force” for Ukraine. And NATO membership remains off the table. Given its basic positions, there is no chance of the Trump administration shifting on these points
But since the Ukraine peace process appeared to run out of steam
and Trump threatened to “walk away” from the talks
Kyiv and Moscow have been engaged in an elaborate diplomatic dance of semi-proposals and hints to try to ensure that if Trump does walk away
he will blame the other side for the talks’ failure
This agreement makes it far more likely that he will blame Russia, and therefore that he will continue military and intelligence aid to Ukraine. He may also, as threatened, try to impose additional sanctions on Russia — though given the resistance of most of the world to these sanctions, and tensions over tariffs between the U.S. and Europe
it is not at all clear how effective new sanctions would be
military and intelligence aid will not win the war for Ukraine
nor allow it to drive the Russians from occupied territory
It will however help the Ukrainian army to slow down Russia’s advance on the ground and impose heavy casualties on the Russian army
This should not be taken by the Ukrainians or their European supporters as an excuse to maintain impossible conditions for peace that will make a settlement impossible; because the military and economic odds are still strongly against Ukraine
and a collapse of Ukraine’s exhausted troops is a real possibility
it will make it more likely that Russia will abandon or heavily qualify its impossible demands
for example for Ukrainian disarmament and withdrawal from additional territory
it is clearly far more favorable for Ukraine than Trump’s original — and grotesque — proposal that Ukraine should essentially hand its entire reserves of minerals to the U.S
the profits of mineral extraction will be equally shared
As Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said: “This agreement signals clearly to Russia that the Trump administration is committed to a peace process centered on a free
… President Trump envisioned this partnership between the American people and the Ukrainian people to show both sides’ commitment to lasting peace and prosperity in Ukraine
no state or person who financed or supplied the Russian war machine will be allowed to benefit from the reconstruction of Ukraine.”
money go to develop mineral extraction in the Russian-occupied areas of Ukraine
keep a lot of bad actors out of the country or certainly out of the area where we’re doing the digging."
absolute Western security guarantees for Ukraine after a peace settlement have never really been on offer
because the Biden administration and almost every other NATO government stated repeatedly that they would not fight to defend Ukraine
will however ensure a strong continued U.S
It greatly reduces the risk that in the event of future Russian aggression
would simply look away and not respond as it has in this war
with military supplies and extreme sanctions
But the deal won’t be implemented until the war comes to an end. Thereafter, it will depend on the willingness of U.S
private companies to invest in this sector — and that will depend on their assessment of both the risks and the profits involved
For it is vital to note that this agreement does not commit the U.S
government to invest in Ukraine; and to judge by the present profitability of minerals extraction in the world
it is not certain that private investors will see major benefits from doing so
China has developed its rare-earth sector on such a scale mainly through huge state-directed investment; and no-one has so far done a thorough analysis of the actual profitability and scale of most of these Ukrainian resources. So, only a tactical success for Ukraine and one over which there hang many questions; but nonetheless one that hopefully will lead Moscow to respond with some serious and acceptable peace proposals of its own.

I have watched 21 federal elections and several more with a keen personal interest given that they closely affected my status
the overview and the issues at stake and why or how they mattered
I do not think I have ever seen an election campaign of so little moment or weight as the one that concluded this weekend
The supposed goodies on offer were but diversions from what is happening in the world
Only superficial looks at personality and substance
Even less on fundamental philosophical differences between the major parties
The campaign was unworthy of each of the parties and an insult to the electorate
Neither party could be said to have a comprehensive plan for Australia
The platform offerings and the new offerings did not address any of the major problems of the economy
There were handouts — perhaps continuations of ones from before — but they were not well-focused on those in the electorate who are doing it tough
If anything sacrificial was being asked of the Australian people
it was not well explained; voters could be excused for seeing the election as an auction for being best dressed
Party leaders have not accorded voters the respect of being honest with them
It was not that voters were unaware of the elephant in the room
and the impact of both his economic policies and his tearing up of the security and mutual defence agreements on which the Western alliance is based
Australian politicians seem to have some confidence that the US does not mean the things it has been saying and doing to its neighbours and partners
or that Australia can negotiate for itself a special exemption so that life can carry on as before
This hope — because it is nothing more than that — is not founded on assurances coming from Donald Trump
or from the ideological crowd of billionaires
cronies and flatterers who make up his court and are presently doing all of the decision-making
They are coming instead from what might once have been called the professional Republican establishment
Many of these are friends of Australia and understand our alliance relationship perfectly
Australian politicians or officials to the thinking and decision-making councils of the Trump inner circle
They do not seem as relaxed about it as Anthony Albanese and Richard Marles
There has been a mutual protection society of senior Labor and Liberal politicians to say as little about the matter as possible
devised for them by specialist advisers who were once in Scott Morrison’s pocket and are now thought to be as devoted to Albanese’s interests
Are Albo and Dutton deluding themselves about a special relationship with the US
Trump and his team do not have Australia’s interests at heart
foreign policy and trading policies are focused on “what’s in it for us”
France and Japan have been treated with disdain and contempt
with what confidence can we hope to expect special favours or the status quo
these are matters which are being openly discussed
And not only in foreign cabinets or secret conclaves
They are being discussed by people in the business community who must make investment decisions
and those working in the international environment on matters such as the spread of disease
The world is now different and we need to know how
Such an information exchange in Australia is muted
because our leaders have no confidence or trust in their voters
Even serious long-term challenges with immigration numbers
the international education industry or the creation of a workforce to address chronic shortages in housing construction
are intimately affected by the what is happening in the US
Demand for Australian products cannot be assessed by pure guesswork by the uninitiated
or by resorting to racism and anti-immigration sentiment
These are matters best addressed in the open
because Australians are entitled to think that secretive and closed debates are incapable of informing the best decisions
Canada has just had an election on the effects of Trump
Politicians in all parties openly discussed different ways of dealing with him
Australians are generally well-informed about the basic issues
even if some of the commentators are terribly partisan
There were all the ingredients for a proper public debate
one informed by the advice and experience of officials
diplomats and academics who have made their careers in our diplomatic and security relationships
But Albanese and Dutton have shut down the proper public debate which is necessary
tried to silence most of those in the best position to contribute
this has meant that the highly ideological
alarmist and deeply compromised views of some players have not been subjected to the close examination they deserve
This tendency to believe that some of the most important decisions affecting Australia’s place in the world can be made by a small coterie of insiders is all at one with the compulsive secrecy that affects Albanese’s decision-making
and the deeply political instincts of Dutton and his closest advisers
Morrison’s policies for fear of being wedged
not from an assumption that Morrison was right
AUKUS was a secret scheme cooked up by politicians without significant discussion with the experts or the public
It was a bad scheme and should have been revisited once Trump arrived
Morrison trapped Labor on a right-wing ledge
The ALP now appears to be trapped on this narrow and dangerous ledge by its fears of a wide-ranging public debate on issues such as AUKUS
and the present state of the ANZUS relationship
I have seen some pretty vacuous defence debates
starting from the 1960s with explanations of how gravity was causing the downward thrust of communism and the domino effect
The tariff debates and the hopes of building up a highly protected manufacturing base of the 1960s and 1970s were more appropriate than Albanese’s made-in-Australia rort-in-waiting
it has yet to be demonstrated that Albanese’s understanding of the impact of tariffs and protection is more sophisticated than Trump’s
The housing policies and handouts of both parties are cruel hoaxes on younger Australians
They focus on the demand side of the market and will only drive up prices
leaving most younger Australians frozen out
it is political suicide for any politician to want or demand that housing prices fall in real terms (for fear that older
comfortably-housed Australians will revolt) and there is hardly even the political will to bring about change
we can blame Dutton because it was for him to make the case that Australians deserved better from the elected government
There was a time when he seemed more across the general mood of the electorate
he stumbled and fell and lost the initiative
he has seemed pathetic and unworthy of high office
but the failure to put most of them to good account came from conscious strategy and tactics
The ones sent over the trenches were quickly machine-gunned
under-prepared and insufficiently versed in what passed for policy
Dutton and his team had not prepared a platform for government
and the substitution of a grab-bag of promises and give-aways could not serve as a vision
such as the attack on working from home and the plan to sack half the Canberra-based public servants
afraid to take on lobbyists and special interests
afraid sometimes to put forward its own policies even when it had the numbers in both houses of Parliament
Apologists would point to economic problems
and Rudd and Gillard had presided over the nation when it was all plain sailing
Much of the lack of substance of the election can be blamed on the leader of the Opposition
Dutton has been good at scathing criticism (not always without more than a germ of truth) about how hopeless and gutless the Albanese Government has been
But he did not set his team to disciplined policy formation
and his criticism owes more to slogans and ideology than detailed explanation of better ways of getting outcomes
such as the notion that the private sector can work more efficiently than the public service
and that his party has a tradition of better economic management than Labor
He and his team were experienced in government
the Coalition was seriously mismanaging its remit
was no better than Morrison in government by fiat
the use of public money for partisan advantage
and managing in a way that left the whole system open to corruption
But Albanese cannot be allowed to escape his share of the blame
He has the same mistrust of the electorate
the same distaste for consultation and open discussion
and the same penchant for cosy backroom deals
describing what his hero Ben Chifley once called the Light on the Hill
But he has not given a thoughtful or a memorable speech or inspired his followers
More likely he has simply persuaded more people that he is less worse than Dutton
Perhaps an activist crossbench can supply the pressure to do more
An underwhelmed electorate may well decide to hedge their bets with ginger from the Greens
and some thoughtful prodding from community independents
This could give us a more active commitment to the environment
better governance and a fair dinkum integrity body
rather than half-hearted action on climate
It may even lead to a self-confident open discussion about where we want to be in the world
they will not be putting a hamper on a rejuvenated Labor
Instead they may make Labor more committed and more dedicated to a better service to their constituents

and it’s fair to say that fans are blown away - and to be honest
Battlefield has been a leading franchise in the military shooter market for years, predating the arrival of the Call of Duty series. Granted, the first game, Battlefield 1942
was only released the year before Call of Duty in 2002
That being said, while Call of Duty has had its fair share of hiccups in the road, in recent years especially, Battlefield has had it extra rough. Case and point, 2023’s Battlefield 2042
allowing fans to help devs test the next franchise entry
Battlefield 2042 was always going to have a tough time winning over even its most loyal fans after EA announced that it would be dropping the single-player campaign
making the latest military shooter in the series a multiplayer game only
On top of that, Battlefield 2042 launched missing basic features such as a competent matchmaking system; that's not to mention the presence of uninspired maps, bugs and more, so the DICE entry was always doomed to fail
Thankfully, at least, due to some epic historic entries in the series, fans are still hoping that the franchise gets back on track with Battlefield 6 (currently not its official title) and judging by recent leaked gameplay
Leaked gameplay footage taken from a closed alpha test has been making the social media rounds
and while EA has understandably been working hard to erase said footage
“We might be back,” declared KenshinRell, replying to the tweet from CharlieIntel
“I refuse to believe the game plays as good as it looks until it's out,” said a sceptical Lit4Geeks
“I can already tell there are gonna be some incredible trick shots in this game,” said ConnertonLuke
“That is cool as heck,” exclaimed Elecctricc
“Imagine the destruction when it goes down
Battlefield 6 does not have a release date at the time of writing
it will launch later this year or by early 2026

A lakeside memorial for veterans on Lake Champlain is getting a big boost in state funding
North Country Assemblyman Billy Jones has secured another $300,000 to go towards the second phase of Battlefield Memorial Gateway in the Town of Plattsburgh
Assemblyman Jones has helped land more than a half-million dollars in state funding
The project’s Purple Heart Trail was finished in phase one a year ago
phase two will focus on a Remembrance Plaza dedicated to veterans
Plattsburgh Town Supervisor Michael Cashman says that the memorial will cost around $6-million-dollars
but that tariffs could raise the cost of materials and stretch out the timeline
the hope is to have work underway by late summer or early fall and wrapped up by next year to tie into America’s 250th birthday commemorations
the third phase of the project will look to renovate jetties on the lake to take boatloads of tourists to out to historic Crab Island to see the monument dedicated to the sailors killed in the Battle of Plattsburgh in 1814 whose graves are on the island
Proceeds from the town’s first ever Michigan Festival
will also help cover the costs of the Battlefield Memorial Gateway

ShareSaveBusinessPolicyFiduciary Responsibility On The DEI BattlefieldByKaren R. King
ShareSaveThe political and legal landscapes on DEI programs are shifting rapidly
Presidential edicts and threats of government enforcement have driven some companies that once bragged about their diversity initiatives to now renounce them
and public outrage from all sides have left much of corporate America spinning
But in all the coverage of the twists and perils in the DEI war
there is little discussion about fiduciary duty
Pundits and academics may debate the nature of fairness and justice
but boardrooms face a more practical calculation
how is a fiduciary to shareholders supposed to navigate this moment
Corporate success has long been associated with innovation
corporate strategists talked about expanding market share
and evolving to match the younger consumer base
While liberals pushed for equal opportunity and reparative justice
corporate America has always been most responsive to its bottom line
it is the “business case” that likely accounts for the rapid rise of diversity initiatives in the last decade
“Why diversity Matters,” revealed a strong link between diversity and financial performance.[1] Based on an analysis of proprietary data from 366 public companies across a range of industries in Canada
McKinsey found that companies in the top quartile for racial and ethnic diversity are 35 percent more likely to have financial returns above their respective national industry medians
The study found a linear relationship between racial and ethnic diversity and better financial performance in the U.S.: every 10 percent increase in racial and ethnic diversity on the senior-executive team
resulted in an 0.8 percent rise in earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT)
Deloitte published a study showing similar results.[2] That study examined the financial turnaround at Quantas from an AUD$2.8 billion loss in 2013 to an AUD$850 million profit in 2017 with shareholder returns in the top quartile of its global airline peers and the ASX100
CEO Alan Joyce attributed the success to the investment in “a very diverse environment and a very inclusive culture” which “got us through the tough times… diversity generated better strategy
better debates and better outcomes.” The Deloitte study also debunked the myth that diversity and inclusion hinders cohesion within teams
it found higher levels of collaboration and cohesiveness
The company vowed to spend more than $2 billion with Black-owned businesses by the end of 2025
including adding more products from 500 Black-owned vendors to stores
and pledging $100 million to support Black-led nonprofits and provide scholarships to students attending HBCUs
Target stores were redesigned with designated areas promoting “Pride” products
and Amazon also faced calls for economic restraint by consumers
Costco saw an increase of 7.7 million visits and its stock hit an all-time high in February 2025
in advance of a record-breaking Super Bowl LIX in terms of viewership and profit
defended the NFL’s practice of considering diverse candidates for head coach
general manager and coordinator positions “we’ve proven ..
including by shutting down any programs that promote invidious forms of DEI.”
But significant litigation risk exists in the other direction too
public statements about abandoning “diversity,” “equity,” and “inclusion” can run a company head-first into claims of violations of Title 7 and the American with Disabilities Act claims
And there exists a counterpoint to the securities lawsuits too
Those with a legal obligation to act in the best interest of shareholders can be held responsible for rash action leading to destruction of market value
While corporate directors and officers are typically protected by the “business judgment rule” from liability for business decisions that prove detrimental or unsuccessful
that protection is limited to decisions made in good faith
and in the best interests of the corporation
Failure to examine the impact of DEI on corporate profit
and consumer loyalty could be viewed as careless
and a breach of duty to the company and its shareholders
Some companies have already recognized the financial implications
Coca-Cola warned in its most recent annual filing that abandoning DEI could hurt business
because its diverse employee base “helps drive a culture of inclusion
innovation and growth,” and if the company’s employees do not reflect the “broad range of consumers and markets we serve around the world
our business could be negatively affected.”
the Target case study is a cautionary tale against sudden reversals of corporate commitments based on the whims of the current Administration
As corporate leaders navigate the waters of the Administration’s war against DEI
a plaintiffs’ bar ready to pounce in both directions
and consumers that are fired up to vote with their wallets
failure to consider the full economic impact of DEI exposes fiduciaries to liability for breach of their duty

Delta Force is copying Battlefield's homework
I was the first to turn my nose up at Delta Force when it was announced
The freshly released (it's in open beta but if everyone can click your game on Steam and play it
it's released) multiplayer FPS is cavorting in the skin of the legendary 90s tactical shooter franchise of the same name
In its best moments it channels Battlefield 3's sense of fun and chaos
that was nearly 15 minutes of combat before I actually had to take someone down
and while Napoleon Bonaparte might have said an army marches on its stomach—citation needed— this army marches forward only because I will it
swarming towards the objectives with only me and my medic bag between them and a trip to the respawn point
There will eventually be a third when the Black Hawk Down campaign launches next year but for now there's the two multiplayer offerings: Warfare is a 32 v 32 combined arms throwdown across various objective modes
which is an extraction shooter that'll have you scuffling around for loot before you try to get to an extract
a lightweight version of Escape From Tarkov that I bounced off near immediately
The element tying the two together are the operators
My beloved medic is called Stinger—real name Roy Smee
There are eight ops right now: two each for the Assault
Classes determine which secondary gadgets you can choose from—support characters have the choice between an ammo bag or a medical bag
for example—but what will most define your playstyle is an operator's passive ability
these quirks just feels like a cool way to make you feel distinct
Stinger can revive people faster and has a tiny medic gun while recon specialist Hackclaw has a little flashbang drone and a tablet that can hack nearby enemy positions
But you also get these abilities in the extraction mode
and having a wrist mounted grenade launcher or the ability to fire off smoke dispensing drones at a moment's notice feels overpowering
especially as you can't actually loot these from your opponents
It just feels incredibly unfair to corner an opponent and have him fire a brace of grenades at you
This isn't the only reason Operations mode is—in my opinion— better off ignored
but personal preference could come into it more than anything else: Delta Force's Operations mode is shallow
and has you looting containers and making a break for an extraction
chewing through other players and AI soldiers
so you don't have to faff around with magazines or grenades
instead just stuffing your pockets with medical supplies and bullets and get to work
the joy of extraction shooters comes from the faff
so this was too shallow for me to get immersed in
it channels the chaotic energy of Battlefield 3
pushing all 64 players towards a single pair of objectives in the Rush-like Attack and Defend mode or spreading out the fight in the Conquest-style King of the Hill
Keep up to date with the most important stories and the best deals
But fight through the tunnels leading to the secret biolab at the heart of Shafted and it's hard not to be reminded of pushing up the stairs of Operation Métro
Trench Lines has you fighting first to capture a military base then brawling through a series of trenches
into a huge military compound with a giant tower in the middle
Fighting for control of the tower is essential
Delta Force is aesthetically similar to Battlefield 2042
Battlefield 2042 has the stronger art direction
but otherwise I think Delta Force has it pipped in just how good the combat feels
Part of this is that vehicles and individual soldiers feel much less powerful than in Battlefield
so the pushes into enemy territory feel a little more furtive
with attacking waves hammering against a defensive line until you overrun the objective
Time-to-kill is low and the chance of getting a breakaway moment where you're the hero feels so rare that when you actually do pull it off and flank the entire enemy team to pick off the enemy's defensive position
Even behind the wheels of the vehicles you call in
by tapping the 5 key and dropping it on your location
you're looking to support pushes rather than rocket around by yourself
A caveat here is that vehicles have unlocks and a loadout that upgrades after you spend time with them—I worry they'll get more powerful as players get more comfortable with them and learn which combination of perks and quirks will make them more survivable
destroying vehicles feels achievable as long as you're not the only person toting a rocket launcher
and although main battletanks are terrifying killing machines
they're so expensive it's rare you'll see more than one in a match and they're such a magnet for any would-be vehicle hunters
The weapon customisation is probably the deepest I've seen in a video game
barrel and just about everything else on most of the weapons in the game
Something I've never seen before is the ability for you to calibrate several of these attachments
tweaking the position of your sight or how the stock fits into your digital shoulder
slightly affecting weapon handling as well
but it seems like a way for min-maxers to get everything they want from their weapon of choice
Delta Force has a good foundation right now
I don't care about these silly military men and their anonymous battlegrounds
It's hard to give a game a sense of identity after launch
and I'd have my doubts about whether a hero shooter can be a hit if no one cares about the heroes themselves
Recently the game hit a player peak of 118,964 players
We'll have to see how those player numbers look in a couple of weeks
and the best large-scale multiplayer shooter I've played in years

The Lemur offers students a place to write about hot-button topics in a safe environment
Duke is equipping students to respect differing viewpoints in a variety of ways. This Duke Today series examines the decline in civil discourse and Duke’s efforts to improve campus dialogue
Here’s a novel idea in 2025:You disagree with your friend’s political views
You could:a) Cancel the friend on social mediab) End the friendship in real lifec) Start a magazine where classmates with opposing views share their essays to better understand each otherDuke juniors Zachary Partnoy (liberal) and Sherman Criner (conservative) chose option “c.”
They launched The Lemur in fall 2024
an online publication that bills itself as “Duke’s Big Ideas Magazine.”
they’re still friends.“We probably agree more in a lot of areas … but we disagree on a lot of things
a lot of values-based things,” Criner says
But these are the conversations that people on campus say aren‘t really that possible
So let‘s try and find a way to create a space for that.’ ”
white Southerners in literary and political culture
She connects her observations with why Democrats appear out of touch with much of America:
“The current political insularity of the Democrats – who too often repeat the errors of their culturally dominant constituency
which has a weakness for condescending to those who don’t share their educational privilege – has damaged the party’s popularity and
“Democrats must stop condescending towards poor white Appalachians (among other groups) – perhaps some new voices in Southern literature can help them finally understand this demographic on its own terms.”
The Lemur also organized a post-election roundtable for students to share their views
Partnoy and Criner say it was worthwhile and engaging
More recently they started holding book discussions
launching the inaugural Foundations series April 3 with a discussion of Edmund Burke’s “Reflections on the Revolution in France.”
The next event in the series is a discussion of Thomas Paine’s “Rights of Man” from 6-7:30 p.m. Monday, April 21, in Room 114 of The Gray Building. The Lemur will provide copies of the book and food from Panera. (For more info, email thelemurmagazine@gmail.com.)
Duke’s administration has promoted a variety of courses, guest speakers and faculty training to help bolster a better understanding and respect of differing views across campus. For example, Provost Alec Gallimore during the 2023-2024 school year launched the ongoing Provost’s Initiative on the Middle East speaker series
which brings a diverse mix of experts and practitioners who share their perspectives
“We do admire what the administration is trying to do,” he adds
“But I think one of the things that has been successful about The Lemur is that there’s been a positive response to it among students
I just think that’s the reality for most students.”
Abdullah Antepli, professor of the practice at the Sanford School and director of Duke’s Civil Discourse Project and Polis: Center for Politics, agrees.“The Lemur is an exemplary outcome of an ideal educational process,” Antepli says. “A group of Duke students were inspired through multiple Transformative Ideas classes they took and created this online platform that not only filled an existing void in the space beautifully
but continues to generate brilliant intellectual and moral inquiry for many members of the broader Duke family.”“We at Polis and CDP are proud to support the effort and will continue to do so.”Proceed with caution
Many students characterize their comfort in sharing personal views as a mixed bag
It largely depends on the environment at the time
Criner and Partnoy say students will sometimes remain silent out of fear that sharing personal views on hot topics could torpedo post-Duke careers.Senior Iyesha Belgrave says a professor’s acceptance of differing viewpoints can also influence whether students express themselves.“I’ve had experiences in college where I did not feel comfortable enough to share my views
that’s your problem,’” Belgrave says.“But on the opposite spectrum
but just because it’s my view doesn't mean it has to be your view
And I’d like to sit down and listen and see how you have these beliefs
what kind of led you to this point.”Sharing your views can turn more intense among students
adds Belgrave.“Amongst the students I surround myself with
I think we’re all pretty vocal about our beliefs
but I do know that there are a lot of students that don’t feel comfortable sharing their beliefs,” she says
“Not because they don’t believe in them 100% but sometimes it’s not always the safest campus environment.”Fellow senior Chloe Decker
student chair of the nonpartisan student group Duke Votes
has been involved in helping students register to vote since her first year on campus
She has observed growth in student engagement on voting and political issues since she came to Duke
“staying informed and discussing the myriad ways that politics can and does impact their lives,” she says.“To fully engage in civil discourse
you can’t just have political scientists and economists in the room – you need folks from every walk of life to have the willingness and know-how to have a meaningful conversation about the way the world works,” Decker says
“Civil discourse is not just something that is needed when discussing international conflicts
but it also applies when considering state and local policies that structure our daily lives.”
Duke Today is produced jointly by University Communications and Marketing and the Office of Communication Services (OCS)
Articles are produced by staff and faculty across the university and health system to comprise a one-stop-shop for news from around Duke
Geoffrey Mock of University Communications is the editor of the 'News' edition

The Battlefield team is asking fans not to make judgments based on information shared out of context from the playtest
The next Battlefield game doesn't even have an official name yet, but fans are already hands-on with an early build thanks to the new Battlefield Labs playtest program
That program has proved a headache for devs
with participants leaking footage in spite of NDAs
and starting rumors about the use of skill-based matchmaking (SBMM)
A rumor that Battlefield 6 would use SBMM, which likely originated from the playtest, has spread through the Battlefield community, with fans up in arms about its potential inclusion. Battlefield's lead producer David Sirland attempted to clarify the use of SBMM with playtesters, in a post that was later shared to Reddit
"Just for clarity--saying SBMM is bad is not really useful
What you really want to say is 'Heavy SBMM where skill separation is a priority is bad,'" Sirland said in the post
"But that doesn't make skill as a factor in matchmaking bad wholesale
on the contrary we need a skill value to make balanced teams--no matter the ranges of skills total on a server
It wouldn't be fun if all high skill players ended up on the same team
Sirland added that Battlefield 2042 also would be considered to have SBMM by this definition
and attempted to calm down the conversation by assuring fans that any SBMM used in Battlefield 6 would be applied with a light touch
The response to Sirland's comments being shared to Reddit only reignited the discussion
prompting Battlefield's global community manager T0TALfps to step in
trying to put an end to the ongoing discourse
The community manager reminded players that the build that part of the BF Labs playtest is far from a finished game
and there is no guarantee that any feature in it will make it to the finish line in the same form
T0TALfps continued to tell off leakers who ignored NDAs to spread details about the early playtests
"There is a specific time and place for the wider community to learn about new features and functionalities
"We will address various topics and expand participation in Battlefield Labs when appropriate
but the constant reposting of things is not that time or place
Individuals are and will continue to be removed if they continue to violate the NDA that they agreed to."
There is a growing desire to integrate rapidly advancing artificial intelligence (AI) technologies into Department of Defense (DoD) systems
AI may give battlefield advantage by helping improve the speed
and accuracy of decision-making while enabling autonomy and assistive automation
Due to the statistical nature of machine learning
a significant amount of work has focused on ensuring the robustness of AI-enabled systems at inference time to natural degradations in performance caused by data distribution shifts (for example
from a highly dynamic deployment environment)
researchers demonstrated the ability to manipulate AI given adversary control of the input
Additional work has confirmed the theoretical risks of data poisoning
physically constrained adversarial patches for evasion
These attacks are typically tested in simulated or physical environments with relatively pristine control compared to what might be expected on a battlefield
there is still a limited ability to operationally assess deployed military AI-enabled systems for adversarial vulnerabilities
and the “theoretical” adversarial AI attacks have not been practically demonstrated in operational settings
the operational security risks of AI-enabled battlefield systems remain largely unknown
Securing Artificial Intelligence for Battlefield Effective Robustness (SABER) aims to build an exemplar AI red team equipped with the necessary counter-AI techniques
and technical competency to operationally assess AI-enabled battlefield systems
SABER seeks to establish a sustainable model for an operational AI red teaming process for the DoD
Our AI red team will target operationally assessing AI-enabled autonomous ground and aerial systems that could be deployed within the next 1-3 years

highlighting how "there is a specific time and place for the wider community to learn about new features and functionalities
and this is not it." All these leaks accomplish is stirring up unnecessary unrest and arguments as people debate features that may not even make it into the final game
"Information and content that gets shared is out of context and often with a narrative wrapped around it that is doing damage to the trust and transparency we want to establish," T0TALfps continues
"Things simply are not the same when it comes to hearing about something out of context versus actually experiencing it
or reading about it in detail with the correct descriptions around it

it undermines our efforts to remain open and communicative
then I question where this aligns with the interests of our

So with the lack of information going around at the moment about the next game
it may seem tempting to search for leaks or rise to temporary internet fame for providing new information

“I am always proud to share with my colleagues in Congress and the American people that Upstate New York and the North Country are known as the cradle of the American Revolution
home to numerous battlefields and historic sites that were critical in shaping our nation’s founding and history,” said Congresswoman Elise Stefanik
“I’m honored to lead this legislation renaming Saratoga National Historical Park to Saratoga National Battlefield Park–a change that would more accurately reflect the historical significance of the site and emphasize the crucial military engagements that took place here.”
Saratoga County Board of Supervisors Chairman and Saratoga 250th Commissioner Phil Barrett said
“Saratoga County thanks Congresswoman Stefanik and Congressman Tonko for carrying this legislation to restore the Saratoga National Historical Park to Saratoga National Battlefield Park
were a pivotal turning point in the American Revolutionary War
marking the first time in world history that a British Army laid down their arms
This name change would distinguish the park as a historical battlefield and provide a unique identifier to clearly inform tourists of the significance of the park to American independence.”
"With America's and the Battles of Saratoga 250th anniversaries fast approaching
we are grateful Congresswoman Stefanik and Congressman Tonko are answering Saratoga County and area stakeholders' call to rename our vital Revolutionary park after the battlefield victory that changed the world
America's Turning Point in our War for Independence happened here
It is our generation's turn to connect it to people as generations before did in preserving the battlefield grounds
and the centennial effort to raise the Saratoga Monument
This congressional action will be a timely part of a sustained effort to engage and promote Saratoga’s Revolutionary heritage to inspire another generation of Americans and international visitors alike," said William Teator
Executive Director of Campaign for Saratoga 250
"Thank you to Representatives Stefanik and Tonko for sponsoring the Saratoga National Battlefield Park name change
a bill of significant historical importance for our community
This name change will significantly bolster our efforts to preserve our rich heritage while fostering sustainable development and tourism
This opportunity is particularly timely as we approach our celebration of the 250th anniversary of the Battles of Saratoga in 2027; these battles played a crucial role in shaping our nation's history and continue to be a source of pride and education
This name change ensures that future generations can fully appreciate the birthplace of American independence
a heritage we can all be proud of," said Sean Kelleher
Historian for the Town of Saratoga and Saratoga 250th Commissioner.
I am thrilled about the idea of renaming our historic site Saratoga National Battlefield Park
This change not only honors the profound historical significance of the area but also amplifies its recognition on a national level
We anticipate this will draw even more visitors to experience the rich heritage and natural beauty of Saratoga County
This new designation underscores our commitment to preserving and promoting our storied past while fostering economic growth and tourism for our community," said Discover Saratoga President Darryl Leggieri
“With the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution set to begin this year
there is no better time to recognize the pivotal role the Saratoga battlefield played in our nation’s war for independence,” said American Battlefield Trust President David Duncan
“The soldiers who fought and fell here changed the history of the World.”
The site was originally named the Saratoga Battlefield Park
and that name was kept when it was designated as a New York State historical site in 1927
the word ‘battlefield’ was dropped from its name

The latest rumblings from the EU tech scene
Earlier this month, ARX announced plans to invest £45mn into a new UK facility
where it will build its autonomous ground vehicles
The company expects the plant to produce 1,800 war robots each year once up and running
ARX’s machines drive around on treads and can be fitted with equipment such as radar
The largest carries military payloads weighing up to 500kg — including injured soldiers — across the battlefield
built using off-the-shelf components made in Europe
They’re designed so soldiers can fix them on the battlefield within minutes
but military personnel can also control them remotely from a tablet
and the UK have already conducted field tests of ARX’s technology
the company delivered 30 of its war bots to Ukrainian Armed Forces units engaged in active combat
The European Defence Agency (EDA) also recently contracted ARX to participate in the first EU-wide defence innovation initiative
“ARX Robotics has fielded the largest Western UGV fleet to Ukraine and we look forward to continuing to support the company as it expands its reach across NATO nations,” said Chris O’Connor
HV Capital was the leading investor in the company’s new Series A funding round
Omnes Capital and existing investors NATO Innovation Fund and Project A also chipped in
ARX’s raise comes amid substantial increases in European defence spending in recent months

A Century of Impact is a 192-page hardbound treasure celebrating NPCA’s first 100 years of protecting America’s national parks
Wilderness Battlefield has so many lessons left to teach us
Washington, DC – Today, the National Parks Conservation Association (NPCA), the National Trust for Historic Preservation, and Coalition to Protect America’s National Parks filed a joint amicus brief, accompanied by a motion for leave to file such brief, in a pivotal legal challenge intended to protect Wilderness Battlefield
an area of Fredericksburg & Spotsylvania National Military Park from intense industrial development
This amicus brief was prepared and submitted by the Duke Environmental Law and Policy Clinic on behalf of amici. It can be viewed here.
American Battlefield Trust filed suit against the Board of Supervisors for Orange County
citing fundamental flaws in a county rezoning vote that could fast-track development of the controversial Wilderness Crossing project
Wilderness Crossing proposes setting aside massive tracts of land directly adjacent to Wilderness Battlefield for residential and commercial development, including large-scale data center development. This is just one of many instances in which Virginia national parks have been threatened by irresponsible, poorly-sited proposed development projects in recent years
In today’s amicus brief in American Battlefield Trust
and the Coalition to Protect America’s National Parks provide the Orange County Circuit Court with critical information about the precious history at Wilderness Battlefield and the risks of proposed development to the park’s natural and cultural resources
These three organizations stand united in opposition to Wilderness Crossing and its rushed and flawed review process
“threatens to irrevocably damage the integrity of this site and undermine future visitors’ experiences – indeed
the very name of the development signifies its impact
is complicit in allowing the precious legacy of this Civil War site to deteriorate and vanish.”
“National park rangers work tirelessly to bring America’s complex
fascinating history to life for visitors from around the world
As the site of one of the most critical battles of the American Civil War
National Parks Conservation Association Mid-Atlantic Program Manager
we aim to protect Wilderness Battlefield as a place for solemn reflection rather than colossal construction
The proposed Wilderness Crossing project would cast a long shadow over this national park site
marring one of the few remaining reminders of our country’s not-so-distant past
They say that those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it
The National Parks Conservation Association is weighing in on this crucial litigation to ensure our country’s past is never forgotten.” Hart concluded
“Protecting our country’s historic places is critical to understanding and connecting with our past,” said Phil Francis
Chair of the Coalition to Protect America’s National Parks
“There are so many important historic and cultural sites in the National Park System
This landscape shaped the events and outcome of an important Civil War battle and is key to helping visitors connect to this significant moment in our nation’s history
Constructing a massive development on the doorstep of this hallowed and protected site is not only a threat to irreplaceable resources
it will cause irreparable harm to the visitor experience.”
“The National Trust for Historic Preservation included the Wilderness Battlefield on our 2024 list of America’s 11 Most Endangered Historic Places
because the Wilderness Crossing plan as approved would allow intensive development on land where soldiers fought and died.” said Elizabeth Merritt
National Trust for Historic Preservation Deputy General Counsel
“The court should overturn the County’s decision because of significant procedural violations and the severe negative impacts to the historic landscapes of the Wilderness Battlefield area
We urge the County to develop an alternative consistent with the County’s Wilderness Battlefield Gateway Plan
so that visitors can continue to experience this intact landscape and learn from this difficult chapter in American history.” Merritt finished

These women became part of public lands history as they demonstrated the principles of equality and justice celebrated each May during Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month.
The new administration has targeted staff, threatened conservation rules and censored our nation’s history. But we think there’s still time to reverse course.
Preserving Our Past. Protecting Our Future.
the reactions are overwhelmingly positive as players seem excited about new features
and the return to the modern combat seen in past entries
And that seems to be exactly what’s happening
judging by leaked gameplay from the next Battlefield
an ongoing testing program designed to help the studios working on the sequel get lots of feedback early
The tests are supposed to be closed and players were forced to sign NDAs forbidding them from sharing any gameplay
a ton of players broke those NDAs and posted clips on Reddit
Some of these clips show new features and details not seen before in the series
and a result they have gone viral in the Battlefield community
One clip reveals that players will be able to grab downed comrades and drag them behind cover to heal them and get them back in the fight
This is something other military shooters have done and fans have wanted it in Battlefield for some time now
Even the UI elements and HUD seem ripped out of BF4
And I’m excited to report that classes seem to play very differently from each other
harkening back to the older games in the franchise
I also wonder if EA understands better than other companies that removing leaked content sometimes just makes it spread further and gain more views as people seek out forbidden knowledge
He also warned players that EA plans to deal with them “accordingly.”
So expect these leaks to be removed...eventually
maybe after a few more days of positive press and fan hype
something the Battlefield franchise has been lacking for years now
