The Bayonne MissileOriginally published in the January 1976 issue of Hot Rod magazine Admittedly, his Turbo '54 is an excellent choice for class, so good that he was awarded a jump from SS/DA to CA without even asking. Agaman's thinking is more pragmatic: ''The car is a good one for several reasons, but the biggest one I can think of is the 40 or 50 hours a week we put into it. Ralph (Truppi), Claude (Ure-vig), and I have gone through hell with this piece, and let me tell you it hasn't been cheap." Like other race cars, the Corvette spends most of its life being sedentary in Bayonne, New Jersey, which, after being in it for a minute or two, seems an unlikely place for people, much less race cars, to inhabit. In plain English, it's dirty and the air stinks, because Bayonne is a refinery town tucked in between Staten Island and Elizabeth; and if you could throw a stone to the east for three miles, you'd probably hit somebody in Brooklyn. In the beginning, the potential of the Corvette was somewhat offset by small inconsistencies which made its engines disintegrate (oil pan problems with the short-wheelbase Corvette). The plagues continued for months, draining Agaman's bankroll as well as his constitution. But then everything smoothed out, and the power play really began this past season, even though Bernie figures the race car has soaked up close to 35,000 of his hard-earned dollars. Ralph Truppi does this to BRC pistons: Lighten it inside some, but don't touch the 13cc dome. Then put in.031 Dykes rings and put them really far up so that the tech men can hassle you for having gas port(s). But it functions admirably, holding a Trans End Dana rear with 5.98 Hurst/Schiefer gears and a heavyduty positraction. From the ends of the coconut sprout gigantic C60 Chevy truck U-joints and Summers Brothers axle stubs—which refuse to be mutilated by the 454's ungodly torque. No, it's not the Merrimac, but the underside of Agaman's intake manifold. Truppi devised this aluminum tent to keep hot oil off the manifold and simultaneously draw heat from the same and put it pack in the oil pan where it belongs. The Holley 780-cfm carb uses 81 jets all around, lots of fuel line insulations and all the tricks Ralph Truppi knows inside, and Bernie runs the car with the stock air cleaner base on the engine at all times. This carbon-crusted combustion chamber actually holds 104.2cc of fluid and helps the BRC pistons to maybe 10:1 compression. This ugly piece of plate actually holds the spring to the rear and the rear in the car. You probably won't believe this, but it took Agaman three or four weeks to make it. Interior features Winters shifter for Vitar-equipped Turbo, MSD 404B gold box for CAI ignition on right floor, Moroso tach, Auto Meter pressure gauge and the full complement of stock gauges, including a working electric clock. The camshaft gets no special attention, but the connecting rods do. They are hand-picked from a pile, then matched, Magnafluxed, and they have their beams ground shiny at Tony Feil's shop. TRW Clevite 77 bearings fall on with, 0025-inch clearance for mains and rods. The7480Z camshaftdesign is an aggregate of T-K Industries and Cam Dynamics. This means a roller stick with a 110-degree centerline, 274/280 degrees duration at.050-inch lift,.750-intake and.680-inch exhaust lift, and the T-K springs exert 180 pounds seat and 500-plus open pressure in the 104.2cc combustion chambers. One of Ralph's fine-limit valve preparations is a nightcap'for the steel cylinder heads. The.060-over 454 uses BRC pistons, merchandised by Duffy and designed by Ralph Truppi for 9.5:1 stock compression, a T/K Cam Dynamics cam and T/K valvetrain pieces, TRW bearings, modified Edelbrock manifold, Holley 780, T/K CAI ignition setup with Autotronics solid-state equipment, Hooker 21/8x30x3.5 headers, L-88 oil pump and pan, Carter electric pumps, Moroso covers, Flex-ALite fan, gutted distributor housing with clear cap. Corvette cross-leaf springs are held in place behind the Dana center section by the 1/4-inch steel plate mount. Dana center section uses Schiefer gears of 5.38 numbers, Summers axles, larger half-shafts and C60 truck U-joints throughout. Dana was put together by Trans End in New Jersey. Each side of the IRS has been beefed with Heim joints on locator rods, a new trailing arm setup, and reinforcements everywhere. SRD built the rear with Bernie's help and lots of money. Stock Chevy shocks are used in back, Konis up front. View of wheel assembly from below shows reinforced shock mount, torched stock hub carrier, Heim-jointed locator bar using washers instead of rubber grommets, and huge U-joints on both ends of half-shafts. This is a $4000 Corvette IRS. It is put into play with a Mallory CDN coil and Champion BL-9Y spark plugs, gapped at.080-inch, which have been screwed into their sockets for the past three months. But best of all, Bernie reports that the CAI has awarded the engine anywhere from.50-to.80-second in e.t. reduction. To Agaman, that alone is worth the price of admission. Bernie's 21/sx30-inch Hooker headers work fine, but he says that if you can help it, don't route the collectors to the outside of your car, because then you can't hear any changes in engine sound. Team Fulop is supporting incumbent Frank Schillari Nearly six in ten registered Democrats in the 31st district (59%) live in Jersey City with Bayonne representing 28% and Kearny with 13% Sampson went to the Assembly four years ago after Davis dumped Majority Whip Nicholas Chiaravalloti (D-Bayonne) a pick ratified by the HCDO under a longtime agreement that the mayor of Bayonne gets to select one of the Assembly seats Jimmy Davis might challenge five-term incumbent Frank Schillari in the Democratic primary Three-term Bayonne Mayor Jimmy Davis is considering a bid for the Democratic nomination for Hudson County Sheriff next year potentially pitting him in a primary fight against five-term incumbent Frank X The 78-year-old Schillari is running on a slate with Democratic gubernatorial candidate Steve Fulop which could leave the Hudson County Democratic Organization without a candidate A retired Bayonne police officer and former homicide detective in the Hudson County Prosecutor’s office Davis has not made a final decision on running and no official word is expected until early next year he could have the support of Hudson County Executive Craig Guy This is roughly the same block of Hudson Democrats that does not back Fulop Davis hasn’t closed the door on running for a fourth term as mayor; but if Davis were to be elected sheriff – would serve the remaining six months of his term Schillari was elected in 2010 when Hudson County Democrats dumped incumbent Juan M Perez from the organization line and endorsed him Perez switched parties and ran as a Republican The winner of the Democratic primary will almost assuredly win the general election; Hudson hasn’t elected a Republican sheriff since John Kaiser won in 1905 Kaiser didn’t seek re-election to a second term in 1908 and his departure was rocky: in addition to his $10,000 annual salary Kaiser was taking a fee of ten cents per day for feeding prisoners in the Hudson County Jail; the Democratic majority on the Board of Freeholders sued him A judge found he was not entitled to the fee and ordered him to return over $13,000 to the county WEST ORANGE − Midway through the first period of Monday's McMullen Cup final Sydney Fogu grabbed a shot that hit her in the chest and stood with it for a stoppage but it was significant because of the announcement over the PA system moments later a four-year starter with the Bayonne/Belleville/McNair boys hockey team is believed to be the first goalie in New Jersey high school hockey history to record 3,000 career saves She made state history as a girl playing among boys "She's a tremendous individual," coach Nicholas Bancatella said Fogu is a Boston University commit who also plays for the Ironbound Elite 19U team a Newark-based girls hockey club team that uses facilities at Prudential Center and has seen nearly 50 players commit to playing college hockey in the last six years "It's awesome," Kogu said of her milestone "especially with the group of guys I have behind me." Milestones count but it wasn't something I was looking for." The Bayonne tri-op ended up being shut out by Hoboken/Weehawken/Secaucus but Brancatella reflected how Fogu's steady presence between the pipes has helped the program bounce back from a two-win campaign in the 2022-2023 season it was easy for her in the position she's in playing for the club team she's on and committed to BU and seeing 60 shots a game sometimes here maybe this isn't something she needed to do," Brancatella said "Her commitment to Bayonne is the love she has for the program that has been involved with her family for a long time." saying she played six games last weekend with her travel team only to turn around and play three times per week with the Bayonne tri-op There's probably six or seven games this year where we've gotten back from a late game and she's across the street working out She's never satisfied and it doesn't matter who she's playing against I'd play her any day of the week against anybody." She has stopped as many as 77 shots in a game something she did as a freshman against Livingston she's had six different games with at least 45 saves including a 52-save shutout against Johnson/Dayton/Roselle Park on Jan "It's a pleasure going to the rink every day Skating with them and then skating with my girls team it's really a pleasure to be able to do both." Fogu credits her time playing at Bayonne with helping her overall play noting the differences between boys ice hockey and girls ice hockey "The play is just a step faster [with the boys]," she said "So being able to read the girls' plays and then being able to read their plays as well is just something that has elevated my game." Fogu ended Monday with 3,029 saves across 69 career high school starts and has a chance to increase her state record The Bees have three regular season games remaining and are projected to reach the South By: 7:30 am on January 13 A new rendering has been revealed for the redesign of 26 North Street, a forthcoming 14-story residential building in Bayonne Designed by MHS Architecture and developed by The L Group and Cali Futures the 174-foot-tall structure will span 569,115 square feet and yield 500 rental units in studio to two-bedroom layouts with an average scope of 749 square feet as well as 6,929 square feet of ground-floor retail space 16,369 square feet of indoor-outdoor amenities and enclosed parking for 455 vehicles and 266 bicycles The nearly 2-acre property is bound by North Street to the north and a one-story commercial building to the east The main rendering above depicts 26 North Street with three interconnected rectangular volumes above a three-story podium The façade will be composed of light gray aluminum framing floor-to-ceiling windows as well as contrasting brown brick on the ground floor and the second and third stories on the eastern end of the building Numerous balconies protrude from the western face and southern elevation of the broad eastern volume and a landscaped terrace will sit atop the podium at the center Below is a former iteration for the development which called for two 22-story towers rising from a five story podium The project was first approved by the Bayonne Planning Board in 2015 as a four-story building dubbed “The Lofts.” The residential program in the current scheme consists of 145 studios Apartments will occupy levels four through 14 The development is located directly west of the elevated 8th Street Hudson-Bergen Light Rail station A completion date for 26 North Street has yet to be announced Subscribe to YIMBY’s daily e-mail Follow YIMBYgram for real-time photo updates Like YIMBY on Facebook Follow YIMBY’s Twitter for the latest in YIMBYnews The taller version was pretty ugly too TBH For a better future with a light gray aluminum frame even in 2040 the structure will still be modern: Thanks Not impressed with the design of the building ga('send', 'event', 'beautyofblock', 'Impression', 'https://newyorkyimby.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Standard_336x280-100-2.jpg', { nonInteraction: true }); ADVERTISEMENT ga('send', 'event', 'PCRichards Builders Division', 'Impression', 'https://newyorkyimby.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/PCR_Beko_Compact_YIMB_336x280.jpg', { nonInteraction: true }); ga('send', 'event', 'yimby+', 'Impression', 'https://newyorkyimby.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/image.png', { nonInteraction: true }); Follow on Instagram var sb_instagram_js_options = {"font_method":"svg","placeholder":"https:\/\/newyorkyimby.com\/wp-content\/plugins\/instagram-feed\/img\/placeholder.png","resized_url":"https:\/\/newyorkyimby.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sb-instagram-feed-images\/","ajax_url":"https:\/\/newyorkyimby.com\/wp-admin\/admin-ajax.php"}; © COPYRIGHT New York YIMBY® LLC YIMBY IS A REGISTERED TRADEMARK OF NIKOLAI FEDAK / NEW YORK YIMBY LLC A New Jersey man is charged with trafficking a teenage girl across state lines and attempting to sell her over the internet to other people for sex was arrested on the Pennsylvania Turnpike on April 28 according to the Cumberland County District Attorney's Office in Pennsylvania He is charged with trafficking in minors and interference with the custody of children Oliver was pulled over while driving a black Ford SUV on the Turnpike through a town around 30 miles west of Harrisburg State troopers said they found sexually explicit clothing including a 19-year-old girl and a 17-year-old girl The younger teen girl had been entered into the FBI's National Crime Information Center as "missing and endangered" out of Missouri The girl met Oliver around six months ago in Kansas City He gave her drugs and they had sex nearly every day Oliver also gave the 17-year-old girl money on April 26 — two days before their SUV was pulled over on the PA Turnpike — Oliver said to the girl that they were going on a trip so she could become a stripper authorities said Oliver waited until they were already on the road to reveal his true plan: she would have sex with other men for money Oliver had already created an advertisement online offering sex with the 17-year-old girl to any buyer "This vulnerable victim was recruited and groomed through the use of drugs All for the ultimate purpose to sell her to men in hotel rooms," Cumberland County District Attorney Seán M Report a correction 👈 | 👉 Contact our newsroom A New Jersey man is charged with trafficking a teenage girl across state lines and attempting to sell her over the internet to other people for sex.\nRead More Report a correction 👈 | 👉 Contact our newsroom
