meaning that four squads from the Berlin school will have the chance to bring home a Bayside title in the coming days
There will be formidable Bayside North squads standing in each team's way though
and with the lacrosse games on Monday at Decatur and the baseball and softball teams competing in Salisbury on Tuesday
it should be an exciting week of competitive high school sports

A rematch of last year's Bayside title game
matchups between Decatur and Kent Island have become must see battles between the leagues two top teams
with Decatur winning in the regular season and Kent Island in the Bayside Championship
And this year's regular season game between the two was decided by just one goal
with Kent Island winning 14-13 in late March
Decatur has made the Bayside title game four years in a row now
but have come up just short of lifting the trophy
Given the close battles between these two in recent seasons
it wouldn't be a surprise if Decatur finally grabbed the conference title
Girls Lacrosse: Stephen Decatur vs Queen Anne'sMay 5 | 6:45 | Stephen Decatur High School
Stephen Decatur is back in the girls lacrosse Bayside Championship yet again
and they will be facing a familiar foe on their home field in Berlin on Monday
Queen Anne's has won each of the last four Bayside titles
and a win over Decatur would make it number five
a win on Monday would bring them the conference title
and will see them knock off the foe that has kept them from becoming Bayside champions in recent years
When they faced off in the regular season in Centreville
the result was a 16-6 victory for Queen Anne's
With home field advantage and a conference title on the line
the Seahawks will look to turn the tables on their Bayside North opponents

Just like the matchup between Decatur and Mardela featured two of the best softball squads the Bayside had to offer
this battle will be no different with the conference title on the line
These two teams did not face off in the regular season
meaning it will be a fresh matchup for both when they take the field at Salisbury University on Tuesday
With Decatur riding high after their big win last week
and North Dorchester hungry to finally grab the Bayside title
it should be a thrilling watch for local high school softball fans
the winner of the Bayside South for the second year in a row

the Seahawks have proven themselves to be a complete team this year
The Seahawks will arrive at Perdue Stadium ready to face a Quenn Anne's team that emerged from a crowded field in the Bayside North
It is their first Bayside title appearance since 1980
When they faced each other earlier this season
Decatur left Queen Anne's with an 8-4 victory
Decatur will be looking for a replay of that early season win
while Queen Anne's will look to flip the script at Perdue Field
The suit says Coderre was "visibly intoxicated," leading to the circumstances around his fatal shooting
Attorneys David Hoey and Philip Beauregard are representing Coderre's wife
“Bayside staff neglected warning signs of intoxication and failed to restrict Mr
Coderre’s drinking to the extent that his blood alcohol level was more than three times the legal limit at the time of his death."
Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 138 section 69 prohibits licensed establishments from serving alcohol to an intoxicated person
is one of several legal matters currently pending relative to Coderre's death
In addition to two Bayside Lounge employees and DenKev Inc.
the company that does business as Bayside Lounge
the suit also names the "City of New Bedford by its Mayor," and Mayor Jonathan Mitchell "personally" as defendants
Get some background: Fatal shooting of New Bedford fire chief 'justified.' DA's report details chaotic standoff
According to reports, on Dec. 29, 2023, a 911 caller reported that several people were outside the Bayside Lounge trying to dissuade Coderre from driving. This led to an armed standoff with police, during which Coderre made suicidal statements and eventually fired his gun, injuring one of the responding officers, according to reports
Beauregard said Coderre was with several first-responder colleagues at Bayside Lounge that evening
He said it was close to the anniversary of the day their friend
Attorneys: City of New Bedford's fraud accusations led to Coderre's 'psychotic break'The April 24 wrongful death suit claims that the circumstances leading up to the shooting trace back to 2021
when Coderre was hospitalized and "incapacitated and disabled from work effectively as a qualified firefighter."
"Despite Coderre's legal entitlement to leave with pay for such incapacitation
New Bedford Mayor Jonathan Mitchell terminated him on January 25
falsely and outrageously alleging that Coderre had defrauded the city 'stealing' some $200,000 in pay by faking his disability and injuries," the lawsuit reads
As recounted in the lawsuit, Coderre, on Nov. 30, 2023, successfully appealed his termination to the Massachusetts Civil Service Commission
which ruled the city's actions were "unlawful and wrong-headed."
"Coderre learned that the City of New Bedford and Mitchell had appealed the CSC findings and decision with a lengthy narrative complaint filed in Bristol Superior Court
and a public statement that the CDC decision would be challenged to the very end."
The lawsuit goes on to describe the city's filing against Coderre as "designed for public relations reasons
statements that caused Coderre's harm in the first place."
bad act of the City of New Bedford and Mitchell was the straw that broke the camel's back for Coderre — the final event that pushed him beyond his limit
causing his despondent reaction," the lawsuit reads
Catch up with the details: 'Fishy' Facebook posts led to New Bedford deputy fire chief's unlawful firing
"The independent medical examiner initially accepted Coderre’s account of the limitations caused by his alleged injuries," the city's website reads
when later presented with the video evidence captured on multiple days in June and August 2021
the examiner reassessed Coderre’s assertions and the applicable medical record
subsequently concluding that Coderre had been 'untruthful' and 'putting on an act.'"
but a re-examination of the report," Beauregard said of the examiner's change of opinion
other pending court matters relative to Coderre's death and the city's actions against him include a lawsuit filed against the city in 2024 on behalf of Jane Coderre containing several tort claims
and the city's appeal of the state CSC's decision
which will be heard in Bristol County Superior Court on May 6
City of New Bedford responds as appeal court date approachesIn a written statement provided on May 1 by city Public Information Officer Jonathan Darling
City Solicitor Eric Jaikes states: “The complaint is without merit
The termination of Paul Coderre was appropriate and legally justified under the circumstances
The City intends to vigorously defend this claim in court and pursue all of its legal defenses to the groundless claims set forth in the plaintiffs’ complaint.”
The city's appeal document cites case law and interpretations of Massachusetts General Law language throughout as it argues against Coderre's attorneys' claims
The document contains nine main points of argument
including that the "City is Immune from Claims of Intentional Torts," that "The Individual Defendants are Entitled to Common Law Immunity for all Plaintiffs' Claims Against Them," that "Plaintiffs’ Claim for Intentional Infliction of Emotional Distress ..
Must be Dismissed as to the Individual Defendants Because Their Conduct was not Extreme or Outrageous," and that "Plaintiffs’ Claim for Tortious Interference ..
Must be Dismissed Because the Individual Defendants did not act with Improper Motive or Means."
Check this out: Society Coffee Bar is headed to New Bedford. Owner says they have a 'fantastic spot'
to prevail on a claim of tortious interference with a contract
a plaintiff must establish that (1) he had a contract with a third party; (2) the defendant knowingly induced the third party to break that contract; (3) the defendant’s interference
was improper in motive or means; and (4) the plaintiff was harmed by the defendant’s actions.'
to the extent the Individual Defendants have been alleged to have interfered with Coderre’s employment contract
their interference was neither improper in motive nor means
it is beyond doubt that Mayor Mitchell possessed the requisite authority to initiate discharge proceedings against Coderre."
The postseason has arrived for Maryland's high school spring sports teams in the MPSSAA
And first up to kick off the regional playoffs are the high school lacrosse teams
multiple lacrosse teams will be looking to go deep into the playoffs and make runs toward a state championship

Here are the playoff paths for the Bayside South's boys and girls lacrosse teams:

meaning they were able to bypass the first two rounds of the regional playoffs
The Seahawks will host the 2A East II Regional Final

I ran into Debbie Boney on a recent shopping trip to her popular Bayside Market; she was excited to share that the store now carries pre-made sushi
I love Debbie’s involvement in the store and how she constantly tweaks things to find the perfect mix of products
We are fortunate to have Boney’s and all the fantastic items that they make in-house
from the pre-made sandwiches to their delicious lineup of soups and salads
The new sushi line now lives next to the deli counter
I must admit that I was initially skeptical
I eyed a Crunchy California Roll and decided to give it a go; $9.95 would not break the bank
The Crunchy California Roll blew my socks off
This roll was as good as the various rolls I have had elsewhere on the island
I needed to give something else in the sushi lineup a taste
I should have grabbed another roll I had not tried
but the Crunchy California Roll was calling out to me again
unlike the grainy texture of many other pre-made rolls I had tried
I was interested in the company making the sushi
but all I could find was that they are based in Chula Vista
The label on the sushi reads that they are “committed to freshness and sustainability” and that they “ensure an authentic restaurant-quality experience with every bite.” That tells me that these delightful rolls don’t travel very far
and I did experience the quality in every bite
Are these rolls going to keep me from Monday’s all-night happy hour at Saiko Sushi or catching a fun sunset at Yummy Sushi
You can also be sure I will be among the first to check out Nobu at the Hotel Del when it opens
These amazingly fresh rolls are an easy add to your shopping cart and don’t come with a sit-down restaurant price tag
I can post up at home and binge watch a series while scarfing down a couple of darn good sushi rolls
I hope you give them a whirl; the quality surprised me
and the Spicy Tuna Roll are on my short list for next time

the Fox Point-Bayside School District has selected its next superintendent from closer to home
The Fox Point-Bayside School Board chose Michael Weaver
the assistant superintendent of the Maple Dale-Indian Hill School District
Board members approved Weaver's contract April 7
The district's current superintendent, Jeffrey Dellutri, is retiring. The Fox Point-Bayside School Board approved Dellutri's retirement request last November. His last day will be June 30, a letter to parents said
Board members chose Weaver out of three finalists. The other two were Ron Rivard, the principal and curriculum director at Randall Consolidated School District J1 in Randall, Wisconsin; and Tabia Jones, the chief executive officer and president at St. Joseph's Academy in Milwaukee. There were 17 applications for the position, according to a letter sent to parents and staff last month
Weaver said he was honored and humbled to have been selected
listen and learn and build trust and understanding from the community and see what they need," he said in a phone interview
Weaver served as the Maple Dale-Indian Hill School District's director of business services for two years
He has also held leadership and administrative roles in Milwaukee Public Schools and in the West Allis-West Milwaukee School District
He is completing a doctorate in educational leadership and policy analysis from the University of Wisconsin-Madison
He also holds a master's degree in educational leadership from Cardinal Stritch University
and a bachelor's degree in education from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee
The Fox Point-Bayside School Board cited Weaver's strategic and student-centered vision, comprehensive understanding of school finance, operations and curriculum and dedication to developing the whole child and using innovation to inspire student achievement as reasons for choosing him, according to the district's website

— A more than half-century old seafood restaurant in Edgewater is reportedly closed
Many on social media expressed shock and anger following the apparent sudden closure of Bayside Inn on Mayo Road
Some claim the restaurant shuttered overnight last week
leaving employees and customers in the dark
Bayside was previously owned by Charles Paul Carlow
The business was left to Carlow's surviving family members who initiated some changes
I am beyond upset to hear about this," wrote one Facebook user
"The way you handled this shows you have no appreciation or respect not only for your workers but the people that have supported you for 60 years
If you wanted to close you could have handled this totally different."
"Giving anyone notice about shutting down a bar would be like opening up your safe and going on vacation and telling everyone in town that you are not home
Or giving the keys to your brand new Corvette to your 16-year-old and telling him to just be careful when he does burn outs," another commenter wrote
Anne Arundel County Health Department records show Bayside was investigated over a complaint in December
but no violations were discovered during a spot inspection
However, in 2023, inspection reports state Bayside was written up multiple times for repeated plumbing issues
According to Maryland's Department of Assessments and Taxation
Carlow and his wife Freda are still listed as property owners of the restaurant
the property was valued at more than $1.5 million with phase-in assessments
There's an April 11 fundraiser at the Green Turtle on Solomons Island Road benefiting workers impacted by the closure
"We’re coming together to support the incredible employees of Bayside who were blindsided by the sudden closure — leaving them without jobs or income
Let’s rally as a community to raise funds and show them they’re not alone
Every contribution counts," reads a Facebook post promoting the event

The Bayside South's regular season for high school baseball
softball and lacrosse is set to come to a close in the coming days
as regular season finales are played and teams gear up for the postseason
here’s one final power ranking of each Bayside South sport
analyzing the top teams and contenders this season
the Bayside South and their spot in the upcoming conference championship game has already been decided
there is still much to play for in the final games of the regular season
And with regional playoffs around the corner
it seems like a good time to take a look at where each team stands in the local hierarchy
Here is a final regular-season power ranking of Bayside South baseball
softball and lacrosse teams before the playoffs begin:
the Bayside South Championship has been decided
with the Seahawks walking away with the win
which Decatur won courtesy of a walk-off single by Landon Daniel
which allowed the Seahawks to clinch the South title and attempt to go back-to-back next week
While Bennett ultimately left with a loss and its bid to win the Bayside South ended
this could be an encouraging game for the Clippers as they
have shown themselves to be one of the few teams capable of hanging with the Seahawks
With Bennett and Decatur residing in the same Class 3A region
a potentially playoff rematch between these two would certainly be something to look forward to
Mardela saw its long winning streak snapped recently
as it lost to Bennett and Parkside in the same week
the Warriors still look poised to make a run toward defending their 1A Regional title this season and making a deep run in the state playoffs
competitive teams like Snow Hill and Pocomoke could potentially stand in their way though
which could shape up for more great playoff battles
Mardela and Stephen Decatur are set to face off at Mardela this week with the Bayside South title on the line
end of season battles between these two powerhouses have become the norm in Bayside South softball
as they've each consistently risen above the rest of the competition in recent seasons
This game also will serve as a final test before regional playoffs begin
as they are each one of if not the best team that either has faced in regular season
and similar to the highly level of competitive teams they will face if they want to make deep runs in the state playoffs
Parkside and Bennett have shown themselves to be teams worth keeping an eye on once the playoffs come around
as they hope to make runs in their respective MPSSAA regions
More: Top Bayside South Games to Watch in the final week of the spring sports regular season
As both teams have dispatched of rivals James M
it looks as though the Bayside South title will come down to the regular-season finale between Parkside and Stephen Decatur on Friday at Parkside
While Decatur is the multi-time defending champion of the Bayside South
Parkside will be motivated to end its reign on its home field this week
And whoever wins the game will have the chance to decide who will try to bring home the first Bayside Conference title for a Bayside boys lacrosse team in a while
as Bayside North squads have been dominant in the championship game recently
BennettParksideNorth DorchesterCambridge-South DorchesterWicomicoIn girls lacrosse
Stephen Decatur is on track to win another Bayside South title
Bennett earlier this week could propel it back into the Bayside Conference Championship Game
They will have another big rivalry game against Parkside this week
but if the level they've shown all season continues to close out the regular season
Decatur will have set themselves up for one more chance at a Bayside Conference title next week
The Bayside South regular season for sports like baseball
softball and lacrosse has reached its final week
as the postseason looms to start off April
some of the biggest games of the regular season are set to take place in the final week
as teams jockey for spots in Conference Championship games and positioning in the regional playoff standings
teams that have been at the front of the standings throughout the year will look to put a bow on the stellar seasons before the playoffs begin
games this week are set to decide whether or not they will compete for the Bayside Conference Championship
It will certainly be a thrilling finish to an exciting Bayside South regular season for each sport
Here are the top games to watch in the Bayside South's final week of regular season baseball
Starting things off Monday is a game that was set to take place earlier this season
the girls lacrosse teams for Stephen Decatur and James M
Bennett will face-off in the final week of games with a lot to play for
These two teams have been the top squads in Bayside South lacrosse this season
as they've each gone unbeaten against Bayside South opponents
Decatur is looking for its fourth straight Bayside South title
while Bennett looks to grab the crown for themselves
coming off a big win over rivals Parkside last week
will hope that momentum continues their way when they take the field at home on Monday
while Decatur will look to continue their reign as the Bayside South's best girls lacrosse squad
With the winner likely going on to compete for the Bayside title next week
not only is there a lot to play for in terms of stakes
it is also a great measuring stick game for both teams ahead of the postseason
The Stephen Decatur Seahawks have been not just the most impressive team in the Bayside throughout this regular season
but one of the top baseball squads in the state of Maryland
Fresh off of back-to-back state semifinal appearances
the Seahawks have not slowed down their success this season
dominating the Bayside while also picking up wins over top non-Bayside opponents like Sherwood when they faced off just a few weeks ago
As they look to close out another stellar Bayside campaign and secure top seeding ahead of the Class 3A playoffs
there are just a few more tests left for the Seahawks
After surviving a late comeback attempt against Parkside last week
and will also host a solid Mardela team as well later in the week
it could potentially be a preview of a future 3A playoff battle between the two top Bayside South teams
as they both reside in the same MPSSAA region
The game could also decide the winner of this year's Bayside South
With Bennett having a very successful season in their own right
it will be one last great battle in the regular season between two of the Bayside's best
Decatur won this game when they played earlier this season in Salisbury
It will be interesting to see if Bennett can flip the script this time around
More: Parkside boys lacrosse gets win over Bennett
More: Parkside grad Marcus Yarns, Delmar's Dante Trader Jr. drawing 2025 NFL Draft attention
Mardela and Stephen Decatur are set to close out their respective softball regular seasons with another battle for the Bayside South
And it comes as no surprise that once again these two teams have run the show in the Bayside Conference for yet another year
as they look to continue their bid for a third straight Bayside Conference Championship game appearance
while Decatur will try again to knock them off
and the games they have lost have come against non-Bayside opponents
meaning they each come into this game undefeated in Bayside competition
The Bayside's best will truly be on display in Mardela Springs later this week
and softball fans couldn't ask for much more when it comes to a game with high stakes being played between two dominant teams
Stephen Decatur is on a quest for a fourth straight Bayside South title
and a first Bayside Championship after striking out in their previous three attempts
have once again been better than most of the competition this year
with a rare but very close loss to Kent Island standing out as the only blemish on their resume
But before they can try again for a Bayside Championship
they'll have to go on the road to face a Parkside team that has been equally as dominant as them this year
Parkside has cleared the way to potentially grab the Bayside South crown from Decatur this year
It will be back-to-back tests for Parkside
as they also face one of the Bayside North's top teams in Queen Anne's earlier this week
the game between Parkside and Decatur in Salisbury should create an electric atmosphere for high school lacrosse
The Bayside Conference's spring sports season is almost a full month into the action
and with just a few weeks left before Bayside Conference Championship Games take place
a hierarchy is starting to settle in for sports like baseball
There have been plenty of great battles across the Bayside South's spring sports
whether it be on the baseball and softball diamonds
Some teams have emerged as new contenders in loaded fields
while others have continued the excellence that has been common for them in recent years
Here is a power ranking of the Bayside South's baseball
Two teams have stood out from the pack in the Bayside South's baseball landscape so far this season
are the reigning Bayside Conference Champions
and are looking to make it back to a Class 3A State Semifinal and further this season
are fresh off their first regional title in program history last year
and have carried their momentum into a stellar beginning of the season
Both teams have only lost one game this year
these two teams have been dominant over rival competition
They won't face each other until the final day of the regular season
and depending on how upcoming games unfold for both Decatur and Mardela against fellow Bayside South contenders like Parkside and James M
that regular season finale could decide whether or not Decatur goes back to Perdue Stadium for the Bayside title game
With just a few weeks left until everything is decided
the upcoming battles between these four teams at the top will definitely be among the highlights of the spring season
The Bayside South's softball race has unfolded as expected throughout the first half of the season
as Mardela and Stephen Decatur have separated themselves from the rest of the pack and a regular season finale battle between the two could likely be the difference between Decatur returning to the Bayside title game
Mardela in particular have been uniquely impressive
considering the fact that they have yet to concede a single run so far this season
while scoring in double-digits in each of their games
only losing their first game of the year just a few days ago to Cape Henlopen
If both teams take care of their opponents in the final weeks
the May 1 game at Mardela could be the decider
and it should be another thriller between the best that the Bayside has to offer in softball

Stephen Decatur has won the last three Bayside South boys lacrosse titles

a big 21-4 road win over Easton on Monday served as another statement win for the Seahawks
as they defeated Easton for the first time since 2019
And they lost a close 14-13 game to Kent Island in late March
showing just how close they are to potentially knocking off their Bayside North foes
The Seahawks still have games against Parkside and Bennett
two solid teams who have been putting together impressive campaigns in their own right
the Bayside South will likely be decided in the late season battles amongst this trio of teams
Things look very close in girls lacrosse in the Bayside South
Bennett and Parkside each hold similar records
Decatur is looking to win a fourth straight South title
while their two rivals are looking to knock them off
The Seahawks have been slightly more impressive than their rivals in terms of goal difference
but there doesn't seem to be much separating the teams from each other
An early season game between Decatur and Bennett was postponed due to weather
meaning any potential measuring stick games between these three teams will have to wait a bit longer
as Parkside and Bennett are set to play at Wicomico County Stadium on Apr
and then both teams will face Decatur in the final days of the regular season

the car was only missing a color — a color that Nissan has finally added to the lineup for 2025
and its addition makes the Nissan Z a car that I would actually want to own
Bayside Blue is one of those distinctive car colors that's far more recognizable than you might expect. Sure, it may seem like just one of many blues, but this one adorned the vaunted R34 Skyline GT-R
one of the coolest vehicles to grace the roads of this Earth
A bayside blue GT-R is a more interesting sight than any supercar
and a Bayside Blue Z inherits some of that appeal
The Bayside Blue on the Z looks a bit darker than the R34's variant
though it's also possible the change is just from the photography
we need to get one of each next to each other to compare
I definitely just want to compare the colors
not to hoon the absolute life out of an R34 GT-R
Bayside blue isn't live on Nissan's configurator yet
so it's not yet clear how much the color will cost to add to your car
Colors for the current Z range from $895 to $1,695
and the existing two-tone Seiran Blue TriCoat finish sits in the middle at $1,295
Maybe the simplification to one single color

alongside the Symphony Apartments building that will also soon be home to the North Shore Library
Bayside’s Village Board approved a site plan from Matter Development to build a five-story
133-unit independent living and assisted living wing and a one-story
connected by a central common area and courtyard
Milwaukee-based Cobalt Partners and La Macchia Holdings are developing the OneNorth project
Construction is scheduled to start soon ― this spring ― with the goal of completion by early 2027
Votes to approve the site plan were split 4-1-1
Kelly Marrazza voting in favor and trustee Liz Levins opposing
citing "personal work" with members of the Matter family
Walny is the founder and managing partner of Walny Legal Group LLC
business succession and trust administration
wrote that the Bayside and the greater North Shore area has a growing need for senior housing
The proposal submitted by Matter Development shows plans to offer independent living
residents will be able to receive varying levels of care at the building through packages that offer personal and health services
The plans also include social and dining rooms
The development will also offer up to three meals per day
A total of 154 parking spaces are planned ― 112 underground and 42 surface spaces
The development is located north of West Brown Deer Road and west of North Port Washington Road
Who is developing the new apartment community for seniors in Bayside?Wauwatosa-based real estate company Matter Development is a developer
owner and operator of senior housing communities throughout southeastern Wisconsin
The company holds around 1,100 units within its portfolio in 15 different locations
Matter told the Architectural Review Committee when pitching the project on Feb
In 2023, Matter opened a similar 68-bed development nearby in Mequon
the Bayside building will be managed by Koru Health
an affiliate company of Matter's that handles operations at these facilities
That close connection makes Matter Development unique
"We don't exit the project after the development is complete
We remain involved with the development throughout the life cycle," he said
The project architect is Galbraith Carnahan Architects
the civil engineer is Pinnacle Engineering
Matter said he's received mostly positive feedback about the plan from residents and village staff
the lone trustee to oppose the development
and divergent from the other buildings in Bayside
Levins also vocally opposed plans for the Symphony Apartments
Asked how much of the TIF would go toward the development
Village Manager Andy Pederson said it's not a simple calculation
The village is using the "pay-as-you-go" financing method
where the developer pays all upfront costs for infrastructure
and the village will reimburse the developer using future tax revenue received above the base value of the district
the Symphony and any other development approved
Almost a dozen people echoed Levins' concerns
where the committee eventually recommended plans for the site
The Plan Commission recommended approval of the site plan on Feb

Set on a bluff above Nebraska’s biggest lake
Bayside Golf Club is Dave Axland and Dan Proctor’s rendition of “extreme golf”

The creation of Sand Hills Golf Club in 1995 is a widely recognized turning point in modern golf architecture in the United States
While the effects of this new course may not have been realized until many years after its successful completion
the local golf ecosystem of the Nebraska Sandhills shifted soon after
Rumors and chatter of Sand Hills reached farmers
ranchers and locals across the region who quickly became golf-curious
By the turn of the millennium five more golf courses were ushered into the once nearly golf-less sand dunes and of these five
three designs are credited to two gentlemen who helped build the famous Sand Hills Golf Club
Who better to hire for a new golf course design than the ones who helped build arguably the best
was the fifth successor to Sand Hills and like the four others before
it was a product of locals who wanted their own “Sand Hills” for their town
Just northwest of Ogallala and positioned on a bluff high above Nebraska’s largest lake
Bayside is what they call “extreme golf,” and it certainly lives up to that term
{{content-block-course-profile-bayside-golf-club-nebraska-001}}
While the project scope was originally just nine holes
a co-owner wanted a proper 18-hole golf course after seeing the success of the front nine
The only problem was they didn’t have the most suitable land to do so
That led to the idea of dredging a large marina in Lake McConaughy and using the sandy dredgings to “soften” the severe land
fill in some of the ravines to reduce the amount of forced carries
This was a great idea in theory but never came to fruition and led to a ferocious back nine with several long forced carries
The par value of the fourth (par 5) and sixth (par 4) holes may confuse you once you play them for the first time
a NW wind can make four feel like a par 4 and six feel like a par 5
The original plan for the sixth was to have a tee box on the other side of the road making it a true par 5
This means the tiny green built to accept short iron and wedge shots is now receiving long irons and woods
nine strokes between these two holes is a terrific score
You will need a cart to play the back nine
The land is wild and some transitions are lengthy
The front on the other hand is a delightful walk
Straight off their subdued yet wildly thoughtful design at Wild Horse Golf Club just 90 miles away
the Bunker Hill team was given a very dramatic site on the edge of the Nebraska Sandhills overlooking Lake McConaughy
the landforms and soils are drastically different from what you’ll find at courses like Wild Horse
The deep ravines were carved out over many years of erosion and water flowing down towards the lake
but the silt and crushed limestone dominated soil complexion creates this rugged and jagged environment with sagebrush bushes and rocky outcroppings
Despite the difference in visual appearance and soil composition the golf resembles that of the “true” sandhills courses listed above with large undulating landforms
firm and fast playing conditions and the relentless and ever present wind
Straight off their subdued yet wildly thoughtful design at Wild Horse Golf Club just 90 miles away
The whole concept for the course and request from the owner was to make Bayside different from Wild Horse
this wouldn’t be too hard to do given how different the sites were from one another and the fact that the budget was minuscule
meaning they truly needed a minimalist course that laid on the land and was a product of the landscape
this meant being a little more wild and rugged
both descriptors of the land that it sits on and exactly what the course turned out to be
tends to build golf features a little more boldly while Axland tends to reel his ideas in and make them slightly more practical
But Axland didn’t spend a ton of time on this project resulting in an aggressively unique style of golf
This style shows throughout the front nine greens with big undulating contours that kick and corral balls
Some may argue that they are overworked or overbuilt but this is simply what the land provided
Greens like the rollicking fourth “were just sitting there” according to Proctor
who lived 30 miles from the course throughout the construction
Pair that with the notion that it needed to be different from Wild Horse and you get a great deal of variety and distinct greens that you won’t find elsewhere
This project was originally going to be just nine holes (front nine) but the developer owned the tumultuous land where the back nine sits today and had a desire for a complete 18
Land so severe and wild that the design duo’s goal was to just make nine playable golf holes
the back nine greens are much more subtle than the first nine because just getting to the green was hard enough
They were able to massage and push around the land to make it playable without the need for large earthworks or transportation of dirt and it needed to be this way because all they had was a small bulldozer and backhoe for construction
This type of work is what I believe to be true minimalism
Making something from the land with minimal input and money that is made by and for the local people
When you take all of this into consideration they were able to make a pretty exciting and memorable golf course given the circumstances
It may have made a better nine-hole course than 18
but I’m glad Bayside is what it is: a true reflection of the land and dedication of the people behind it
(How We Rate Courses)
Good golf design and fun golf design are very different things
While Bayside is as fun to play as a 3-Egg Wild Horse
I can’t say that it’s as structurally sound and dynamic as Wild Horse
The back nine has forced carry after forced carry with several do-or-die type shots but there’s still a lot of sound strategy and well executed design work infused into every single golf hole
This course sits right on the edge of 0 and 1 Eggs
but ultimately the firm course presentation
A terrific opener that warms you up for what’s ahead; beautiful lay of the land holes with intricate and boldly shaped greens
The first snakes through some small dunes right in the lay up zone creating interest no matter how you decide to play it
{{content-block-course-profile-bayside-golf-club-nebraska-002}}
a Nebraska local who started his golf construction career with Axland and Proctor
had a postcard from Royal Troon which had an image of the famous eighth hole dubbed “Postage Stamp.” He asked Proctor if they could build something resembling it for the second at Bayside and that’s how this hole came to be
{{content-block-course-profile-bayside-golf-club-nebraska-003}}
The first of many “hog’s back” fairways at Bayside
The third repeals shots down to a low point on the right and rewards the ones who take the aggressive line
In this case that means going over the large dune off the tee to a blind portion of the fairway and dodging the triplet of deep bunkers
{{content-block-course-profile-bayside-golf-club-nebraska-004}}
A vexing short par 5 that sports a significantly more dramatic “hog’s back” fairway than the third
Missing right creates a totally blind approach into the green and from this angle it’s nearly impossible to hold the surface
This tumbling green pitches away falling seven (!!) feet from front to back and has multiple sections with pronounced contours between them
Proctor built the green with such severity because of how short the par 5 was going to be and he wanted you to earn your birdie
Beyond the green is a chipping swale that sits 20+ feet below the green making for tricky recovery
{{content-block-course-profile-bayside-golf-club-nebraska-005}}
A neat ridge-top greensite makes distance control key here
Missing short leaves a daunting 15-foot uphill chip shot/putt
but landing on the back half of the green may result in ejection into the native grasses beyond
{{content-block-course-profile-bayside-golf-club-nebraska-006}}
As mentioned in the “take note” this hole was designed to be a par 5 with a tee on the other side of the road that never got built
This would have made the drive more compelling by allowing aggressive players to cut the corner and attack the green in two
while the safer route would force three shots to get home
Approaches into the tiny perched green are a chore as missing right leaves you in a deep hollow and using the shortgrass backstop left of the green overzealously will also send your ball down into the hollow
{{content-block-course-profile-bayside-golf-club-nebraska-007}}
A wonderful, strategic short par 4 with a bold “double plateau” style green
Pins on the right tier are not to be fooled with
{{content-block-course-profile-bayside-golf-club-nebraska-008}}
Arguably the most conventional hole on the course
this straightforward par 3 plays to a green benched into a dune with a beautifully shaped waste bunker short
{{content-block-course-profile-bayside-golf-club-nebraska-009}}
The upper and lower tees here create very different views on the ninth
From below you face all the bunkers head on and must carry the long cross bunker but also need to be aware of the pines beyond
The upper tee sets you up more parallel to the fairway and provides a much more pleasant view
Proctor noted that the hole was supposed to have a tee even further back on the hill making the hole play like a true par 4 vs
{{content-block-course-profile-bayside-golf-club-nebraska-010}}
You are tasked with two forced carries here at the 10th and anything right finds the rocky ravine
This hole plays drivable on downwind days if you are up for the risk
{{content-block-course-profile-bayside-golf-club-nebraska-011}}
After a long uphill cart ride from the 10th green
you arrive at the 11th aptly named “Forever,” but I prefer to call it “Pirate’s Plank.” This monster ridge-to-ridge par 5 plays as intimidatingly hard as it looks with steep fall off on all sides and a narrow fairway that squeezes down to 20 yards wide at the entrance of the green
The diagonal carry over the Kapalua-sized ravine leaves no room for error; slightly left and you’re over the backside of the ridge or miss just right into the punishing arroyo wash
If you can conquer the drive you’re only ¼ of the way there and it’s time to “walk the plank!” You need four exceptional shots here just to make a par but the everpresent wind makes going four-for-four incredibly difficult
the green pitches away from you falling three and half (!!!) feet from front to back
this hole is slightly insane but that’s what makes it so interesting to play (for me at least)
You’re almost guaranteed to have an eventful and memorable time here
I truly enjoy the one-of-one nature of this hole despite its overly penal test and always stand on the tee excited to take a stab at glory or utter defeat
Two things to note about the backstory of this hole is that Axland and Proctor’s original green was positioned around 70 yards forward from where this green is today
one of the owner’s insisted on pushing it all the way back to the far end point of the ridgeline
The designers mentioned to the owner that the requested greensite would be nearly unplayable but here we are today
The team needed material to build up the green on this peninsula
thus the 20+ bunkers down the right side were dug out to collect dirt to build the green
{{content-block-course-profile-bayside-golf-club-nebraska-012}}
Another ridge-to-ridge hole with a diagonal carry over a deep ravine
The green is sort of a lion’s mouth but instead of a bunker cutting into the putting surface the ravine does
{{content-block-course-profile-bayside-golf-club-nebraska-013}}
A rejecting greensite perched up on top of a ridgeline. The contours resemble a “reverse redan” template where accessing the back pins are best done so by banking the ball off the front left kicker slope although there’s very little room for error
Misses short and right are faced with a wall of grass and bunkers
{{content-block-course-profile-bayside-golf-club-nebraska-014}}
The 14th utilizes the ravine quite well as does most of the holes on the back nine
hugging the ravine provides a shorter approach into the punchbowl green while the loads of room right leave a longer second shot
{{content-block-course-profile-bayside-golf-club-nebraska-015}}
This fairway tumbles down the steep ridgeline nearly 80 feet
Cutting the corner off the tee allows you to go for the green in two
the green sits on a ridgetop with steep fall offs short and long that makes staying on the domed green a challenge
{{content-block-course-profile-bayside-golf-club-nebraska-016}}
A well-bunkered short par 4 that was modeled after the 10th hole at Riviera
The size and angle of the green certainly do a good job of replicating George Thomas’s famous drive and pitch hole
{{content-block-course-profile-bayside-golf-club-nebraska-017}}
If you have a “Postage Stamp” green then you need a Riviera No
The owner himself dug this bunker in the center of the green against Proctor’s will
{{content-block-course-profile-bayside-golf-club-nebraska-018}}
The deep blowout bunker on the left is the only obstacle you need to avoid here at the last
The green is huge and lightly contoured leaving you with a gentle descent to your rollercoaster back nine
If you happened to tear through your glove during your round there is a barbed wire glove cemetery behind the green

Continually pursuing the game I love is what brought me to Fried Egg Golf
I found myself working for a local golf course construction company which appeared to be a great starting point to becoming a golf course architect
I turned to the maintenance side of golf for something new
I just wanted to continue to pursue the game I loved no matter the form
Working at some of the great golf courses across America only furthered my interests within golf design
a social media job posting from FEG piqued my interest to join a company that had a direct impact on my love for golf and golf design
I continue to dip my hands into several aspects of the company
skiing and spending as much time in nature as I can

The postseason has officially arrived for Bayside Conference basketball teams
as the chance to compete in the playoffs and extend their seasons will begin later this week
But before the regional playoff games begin
four Bayside basketball teams will compete for a conference title at the Wicomico Civic Center on Tuesday
Bayside North champions Queen Anne's will face defending conference champions Wicomico in a rematch of last year's title game
In another rematch immediately following that will be the boys championship
where Stephen Decatur and defending champions Cambridge-South Dorchester will face off with the Bayside title on the line
Local high school basketball fans can expect close matchups and intense competitiveness in front of a packed crowd at the Wicomico Civic Center on Tuesday
Here is a preview of this Tuesday's Bayside Conference Basketball Championship Games:
First up at the Civic Center on Tuesday is the girls Bayside Conference Championship
where defending champions Wi-Hi will look to go back-to-back
it'll have to beat the same team it defeated last year
When these two teams faced off at the Civic Center last year
Wi-Hi won 58-52 to grab their first Bayside title in since 1985
The road back to the Bayside title game took all the way until the final game of the regular season for Wi-Hi
as rivals Parkside matched it win for win throughout the regular season
Bennett clinched things for it on the final day
Wi-Hi point guard Se'Lah Foreman led the way in their victory with 26 points
and returning Wi-Hi players like Foreman and Carlisa Johnson will look to lead Wi-Hi to victory again like they have throughout much of this season
With Wi-Hi and Queen Anne's each at the top of a very competitive Class 2A region
their is a chance this is just the first time they'll face off this postseason
as they could see each other again in the regional playoffs
All that will matter for both teams on Tuesday
will be walking away with a Bayside Championship
More: Power Rankings of Bayside South Basketball teams heading into the final week of the season
More: Delmar girls basketball player wins Delmarva Now Player of the Week for Feb. 10-16
It will also be a rematch in the Bayside's boys title game
as Stephen Decatur and Cambridge-South Dorchester face off for a second year in a row
Cambridge-South Dorchester won this battle 70-57 last year
meaning Decatur will be looking for revenge
while the Vikings from Cambridge will be looking to go back-to-back as Bayside Champs
Decatur made it all the way to the 3A state semifinals
while Cambridge advanced to the 1A state title game
with both teams falling just short by a few points in their playoff losses
After two dominant season from both of them last year
each team picked up right where they left off
cruising through their Bayside competition this season
And with each hoping for another long state playoff run
a game like this will serve as a tough challenge to open up the postseason for both teams
Cambridge are led by Koby Ennals and Semaj Pinder
two skilled and athletic forwards that have been tough to guard for most Bayside squads
With only one loss one their resume this season
Cambridge looks primed to lift another Bayside title and go on another run in the 1A playoff
is led by defending Bayside South Player of the Year Davin Chandler
Decatur has had some close battles in the Bayside South this year against teams like Bennett
but this battle-tested team has come up clutch in big moments when it's needed to
With the success both teams have had each season
they will each arrive at the Civic Center believing they are the best team in the court
which will make this game even more entertaining and competitive
The Bayside Conference Championships for high school basketball has been decided at the Wicomico Civic Center in Salisbury
as Stephen Decatur's boys basketball team and the girls basketball team for the Queen Anne's County Lions both walked away triumphant Tuesday evening
It was a night that featured rematches in both of the conference championship games
as Wi-Hi would battle Queen Anne's in the girls title game
and Decatur would go toe-to-toe with Cambridge in the boys game
the team that fell last year got their revenge and lifted the Bayside title when all was said in done
playing solid defense and executing an efficient offense
After jumping out to an eight-point lead at the end of the first quarter
Queen Anne's would only extend its lead as the game continued
Bea Holthaus led the way for Queen Anne's with 21 points
Immediately following was the boys championship game between Stephen Decatur and Cambridge-South Dorchester
and it followed much of the same script as the girls game
was able to slow down Cambridge and force long three-point attempts and turnovers
senior Davin Chandler led the way for Decatur as he has all season long
Chandler scored 30 points in the Seahawks' 60-48 championship victory
many of them on drives to the basket and in the paint against a Cambridge defense that was focused on slowing him down
Caleb Loring and Jonathan Purnell each contributed on both ends of the floor as well
helping to stifle Cambridge's offense and scoring timely points for Decatur
Next up for all four teams is the regional playoffs
All four teams have received byes in the first round of the regional playoffs
and each will begin their playoff runs at home in the regional semifinals next week

PORTLAND (WGME) – A Portland woman says she was walking home from a night of bowling in the Bayside neighborhood when she was attacked by a stranger
she's warning other women in the city to take precautions and be more aware of their surroundings
Christine Arsenault says she only lives one block from the bowling alley in Bayside
She says she randomly decided to walk home alone the night of October 29
Arsenault says she remembers struggling with the person over her purse
and then her friends came out of the bowling alley to help her
"The first week I couldn't even take my trash out alone
and I'm still feeling jumpy," she said
She says when she started telling people what happened
she heard similar stories about two other women in the Bayside neighborhood
The 62-year-old says she was walking home from work one night
when a man approached her and shoved her to the ground before trying to steal her backpack
"When I heard about it happening to other women
and to my neighborhood," Arsenault said
Portland police would not comment on Arsenault's' case
but say they have not seen an increase in assaults in the city
adding they have no reason to believe there's a serial attacker assaulting Portland women
police did increase patrols in Bayside in April
Eric Nevins of the Portland Police Department said
"We definitely spend a lot of time in Bayside
We spend a lot of resources in Bayside."
Those resources came after surveillance video was released showing gun violence
Police also offered advice for anyone walking in the city at night
make eye contact with them briefly," Nevins said
"It helps deter people because they think they might be recognized if they do something."
now warning Portland women to walk with friends
"It just takes one second for everything to go bad," she said
Arsenault says she’s unsure what would improve safety in Bayside

Bayside Conference basketball teams have reached the final week of the regular season as Bayside Championship games and regional playoffs are set to begin next week
Things have evolved since the last power rankings in January
and some things have changed in the Bayside South basketball hierarchy
as teams have emerged and closed out the regular season strong
There are also teams that remain at the top of the ladder
as they look to go on long playoff runs and potentially fill their trophy cases this season
Here is a final week power rankings of Bayside South basketball teams at the start of the last week of the regular season:
continuing its prolonged dominance in the Bayside South
Decatur has survived close battles against teams like Bennett and Snow Hill
and has also blown out teams in convincing fashion
Defending Bayside South Player of the Year Davin Chandler continues to stand out for the Seahawks
And contributors like Noah Tucker and Jonathan Purnell have been among the Bayside's best on both sides of the games this season
The Seahawks will be closing out their regular season with games against Parkside
Bennett and Snow Hill as they look to clinch the Bayside South and make it to the Conference Championship game for the second year in a row
and none of them coming in conference play
it's been another dream Bayside campaign for Decatur
Bennett Clippers and the Snow Hill Eagles have been Decatur's top threats in the Bayside South
and while it looks like Decatur is set to pull away in the final week
both Bennett and Snow Hill have put together very good seasons this year
Both teams are led by experienced groups of players
with Bennett led by Zakai Smullen and Jayden Colon
With a big set of games in the final week of the season for both
watch out for both Bennett and Snow Hill as teams that could make runs in the state playoffs
MardelaMardela made history last week when it defeated Wi-Hi on the road
It was the Warriors' first win over Wi-Hi in 15 years as they left Salisbury with a 73-51 victory
They almost beat Wi-Hi at home earlier this season
and finished the job when they faced them again for a second time
Vic Collins and Joziah Sherwood continue to be standouts for this Mardela team that has gone from being a one-win team last year to one of the Bayside's best Class 1A teams
they'll look to continue to prove that claim and make a playoff run alongside top teams like Snow Hill and Cambridge-South Dorchester
More: Parkside girls basketball player wins Delmarva Now Player of the Week award
More: Storylines for Orioles and Shorebirds fans to follow this season as spring training starts
Wi-Hi is still at the top of the Bayside Conference games as the defending Bayside Champions look to go back-to-back
They've had some close calls but when faced with adversity
Point guard and defending player of the year Se'Lah Foreman has hit game-winners against Stephen Decatur and Easton in recent weeks
head coach Willie Downing grabbed the 300th victory of his coaching career
After making it to the 2A state semifinals last season
Wi-Hi looks set to make a similar run this year
It's been smooth sailing for Parkside this season as it's lost just two games and asserted itself as one of the Bayside's top teams once again
One of its biggest wins came against Bennett
as Parkside came back from being down heading into the fourth to win the game against their Salisbury rivals
Parkside also had a big come back win over Kent Island just last week
the Rams biggest win yet came against their Salisbury rivals Wi-Hi
as they defeated them 54-52 on the road in a back and forth thriller
The winner of the Bayside South this season could come all the way down to the wire entering the final week of games
Parkside is also another team that has celebrated career milestones recently as senior Ziyon Smith scored the 1,000th point of her career in a recent game
joining teammate Zion Oge in the 1,000-point club at Parkside
Kent Island and Queen Anne's in the Class 2A playoffs will be tough
but Parkside looks like a tough team for anybody to beat
MardelaFor this year's crop of Class 1A schools in the Bayside South
Pocomoke and Mardela have separated themselves from the rest of the pack in terms of their record as they each jockey for position in the playoff standings
looking to make it back to the regional title game after winning it two seasons ago
it will be their fourth consecutive appearance in the regional title game
and it could potentially be the fourth time they have to face a solid team from Cambridge-South Dorchester in what has become a solid rivalry in 1A Bayside South girls basketball

Bayside Provisions is all about fish
The Avon-based company is behind spice blends
breading mixes and a special sauce designed for a perfect fish fry dinner
But before meeting Ryan — her husband and business partner — Bayside Provisions co-founder Jessica Nagel was no seafood connoisseur
“I had never eaten fish other than shrimp,” she says
“That was just as far as I went.”
coming from a long line of fisherman built on family gatherings dedicated to fish fries
“The first meal Ryan ever made for me was blackened walleye bites,” Jessica says
“I ended up falling in love with the meal and then the man as well.”
The recipe now lives on the Bayside Provisions’ website, along with a myriad of dishes that Ryan and Jessica suggest for utilizing their brand’s specialty ingredients, particularly its bestselling tartar sauce
“My uncle wouldn't give me the recipe,” Ryan recalls of the famed tartar sauce that dates back to the 1960s
“We finally got it when we got married
They slipped it into our wedding card.”
Bayside Provisions has remained catered to the Great Lakes from the Nagels’ home base in Avon
All products are crafted with certain textures and flavor profiles that are meant to pair specifically with walleye and perch
It’s a dish that doesn’t always get a lot of attention in the grocery aisles
“Cleveland's fish fries are a huge deal around here
we live around the walleye capital of the world here
so we wanted to have a good local option for people.”

plus a bit thicker than a normal tartar sauce — more like an aioli
It’s taken both seafood enthusiasts and skeptics by storm
“We’ve sold a lot of tartar sauce to people that don't like tartar sauce,” Ryan quips
and it's got a lot more complex flavor than a regular store-bought tartar sauce
You can use it on a lot of different things.”

emphasizes the significance of open communication between teens and their parents
"It's normal for teens to be a little apprehensive
Williams advises parents to foster an environment where teens feel comfortable expressing their feelings
it may have to happen over a course of time
because a lot of kids now they like to text,” she explains
Recognizing that the development of emotional vocabulary occurs later in life
Williams highlights that it may take some time for children to articulate their feelings effectively
"Children don't have the emotional vocabulary because that is a set
It is something that is developed later on in life," she points out
Parents should stay vigilant for symptoms that might indicate a mental health crisis
such as learning difficulties or sudden aggression
To help address any potential issues proactively
she suggests starting each day with a mindful routine
and to encourage the use of that emotional vocabulary," she recommends
By fostering open communication and mindful routines
Williams believes parents can better support their teens' mental health and well-being

Sorry folks but after this weekend we’ll be putting Coals Bayside to rest
We’ll be open for regular hours while supplies last
Coals is well loved for their wings and pizza. The Maine Sunday Telegram gave them 3½ stars and New York Times gave their Bronxville location a rating of Very Good
Coals is located at 114 Preble Street in the building that had formerly been the home of Portland & Rochester. Coals currently operates a 2nd location in Norwalk

The Colonels have found loads of success at the 1A level over the five years
including a state title in 2019 with two other title appearances (‘22 and ‘23)
It looked as Colonel was on their way to a third state title appearance in 2024 before running into the eventual state champions in the semifinals
the Colonels will finally be without one of their top pitchers in program history in Daniel Hesson (Salisbury)
who never lost an in-conference game in his career
the conference will be not as excited to see Colonel return the top public school arm in the state in the reigning conference player of the Year
they return two arms who saw breakout success in 2024 in juniors Jack Walls and Kenton Robbins
Colonel will rely on Walls and Regulski to lead the offense as they look for others to be massive contributors
Some potential names to fill that role include senior Thomas Wenger (Chesapeake JC)
sophomore Caleb Rouser and junior Derrick Mitchell
Pitching will be the identity once again in 2025
with the offense looking to do just enough to string together wins
This was a very senior-led offensive team last season and the Warriors will be searching for some new faces to provide some depth to the lineup
The good news is that their star offensive contributors are back for one more season
Junior Dustin Blue will be a major x-factor once again for Easton as he should provide depth along with taking over the “ace” role
With Kayden Webb finally being fully healthy
we expect him to bring back his presence on the mound after an arm injury forced him to the DH spot in 2024
but expect him to be slowly eased back into things
The 1-2 punch of Webb and Blue might be just enough to make some damage in the region
Bennett happens to be in one of the most difficult regions across the state regardless of classification
and although last spring we saw lots of improvement compared to 2023
they fell short on the road against Severna Park
The good news is that they return almost their entire roster outside of a couple graduates and one transfer
If there’s any year for Bennett to take down Decatur it’s this one
as they haven’t done so since 2022 when they swept the Seahawks behind players such as Jai Sample and Alex Kidd
The Clippers may also have some of the best rotational depth across the conference
led by senior duo Trevin Whitelock and Cory Fisher (Randolph-Macon)
Cooper Witt emerged over the summer as another potential key rotational piece and should see a strong bulk of innings
The Clippers success will all come down to the offense though as the Clippers retain a majority of their lineup with mainstays such as Carson Bennett
Sophomore Kaden Jacoby-Sample showed some strong promise in his freshman season and should be another contributing bat in the Clippers lineup
The offense against quality conference arms will be the biggest question for this Clippers team as they look to surprise many this spring
The Buccaneers took a step back last season
struggling to get into a groove and finishing with their first sub-.500 season since 2017
They bring back a team this spring with many familiar faces
Some names to keep in mind when tracking the Bucs are senior Aiden Bonds (Cairn)
along with a brother duo in Jack and Derek Grossi
who add a year of experience under their belt
I’d expect to see a pair of seniors in Wyatt Offutt (Wilmington) and Traise Woolford take a large bulk of innings
with depth provided by junior Hayden Austin and sophomore Derek Grossi
Kent Island has depth in the pitching staff and could be dangerous in multi-game weeks as long as the offensive stars do their job and jumpstart some offensive firepower
It was a historic season last year for the Mardela Warriors
who captured the 1A region title for the first time in school history
the Warriors return a majority of the lineup that was detrimental to their success last season
Other significant contributors who look for repeats of last season include seniors Ethan Roberts
They lose two atop of the rotation in Evan Birch and Colby Colwell
but younger brother Brady should take over the top alongside junior Will Premo
One name to watch to potentially pick up those innings is Brayden “Happy” Phippin
The Warriors expect back-to-back region titles
and it will be a battle to watch with Snow Hill to see who comes out on top
Although the Bulldogs only finished with six wins in 2024
they were a team that could upset just about anyone on any day
We expect a lot of improvement from this North Caroline team as they possess a decent number of talented underclassmen who now have another year under their belt
Owen Caraballo was only a freshman last season
but we expect him to take on the “ace” role this spring after a standout 2024 spring
Depth on the mound should not be a problem for them
and Cameron King should provide experience while a crop of talented underclassmen arms in Oliver Frankowski
and Karson Hollingsworth are depth pieces to watch
Eric Deck is a key returner who looks to put together a strong junior campaign
so expect those same names listed above to be valuable two-way pieces
North Caroline’s strength is pitching depth
and expect them to surprise people once again if they can keep games low-scoring
After a breakout 2023 campaign that saw the Eagles get to double-digit wins
A new face enters the third base coaching box as Billy Jackson takes over the program
The offense should still be productive at times
with faces such as TJ Leonard and Blake Bramble still around for their senior years
the Eagles still return some familiar names to the lineup including Brock Warrell
Pitching will be the biggest question mark for the Eagles this spring
They lose their top arm in John Boyle and look to Leonard to take over atop the rotation along with potential depth pieces such as Warrell
It will be tough for the Eagles to navigate one of the most competitive regions in the state with Colonel and St
but if they can string together some strong offensive performances
they could be in some competitive matchups come playoff time
If there’s any team that has given Decatur a run for their money over the last three seasons
Parkside swept Decatur in 2023 before being swept in 2024 which included an eleven inning thriller in late April
navigating a tough region before running into the eventual 2A state champions in the quarterfinals
The Rams will have somewhat of a different look in 2025 after losing a slew of talented players
This impact will definitely be felt throughout the rotation
but they do return one of their top arms from 2024 in Chase Shepherd (McDaniel) along with bringing in junior Tanner Trudeau via transfer from in-county rival JMB
One thing that Parkside has continuously had is strong defense
and that will be highlighted once again by seniors David Harkins (Virginia Wesleyan) and Canaan Mapp along with sophomore Ryan Lewis who should see a majority of innings behind the dish
Depth on the offensive side of the ball will be a question mark for the Rams this season
but the program always finds dark-horse guys to fill out the lineup that continuously produce
This very well could be the season that the Lions finally take home the region championship
Queen Anne’s has always been a solid program throughout the conference and seems to always have success
but seem to fall short to Parkside in previous years
There are definitely pieces that need to be replaced
but this could turn out to be the best offensive team across the entire conference
The Lions lose a significant amount on offense
most notably senior leaders Dulin Clark and Travis Sutch
Other senior offensive contributors include seniors Ethan Keppler and Noah Cramer
Two sophomores to keep on the radar include two-ways Jacob Clough
who comes off a standout freshman campaign
Look for both sophomores to also be two kep depth pieces of the mound alongside the return of the Lions’ ace in Noah Palmer (Chesapeake JC)
Queen Anne’s will need to show the mound depth along with the ability to score runs against the conferences’ top arms if they want to conquer the region and compete for the conference title game appearance
the Saints came right back to their dominating ways as they rolled through almost every team in the conference
Their season came to an end in the region finals after falling to Colonel Richardson
who gave them 3 of their 4 total losses last season
The Saints will always be a strong team as long as Brian Femi is at the helm
The Saints will be without a couple southpaws in Jacob Seek and Anthony Massaro
but return one of the more consistent arms across the conference in Will Sherwood
we expect a breakout season on the mound from junior Brock Grow and another solid season from Bobby Fink
A significant addition to their rotation will be freshman Brandon Toadvine
Offensive returners include junior Connor Wheeler
who should be a mainstay at the top of the lineup
We anticipate an offensive mix of seniors Jack Brennan
and Preston Greenwood to fill out the rest
Expect freshman Blake Wheatley to bring them some needed depth to the lineup
The biggest question for the Saints will be whether or not the offense can be explosive enough to take down Jordan Regulski and the Colonels
The Eagles will have a new face leading the squad this spring in Brady Hare after longtime head coach Todd Lampman hung it up after over 200 wins for the Snow Hill program
The offense should still be productive this season led by seniors Dominic Kuipers and Justin Shipley (Washington College)
Finn Mahoney comes off a stellar sophomore campaign and his bat will be much utilized in the middle of the order
It will be tough to replace some key innings lost due to graduation from Garrett Williams and Danner Swift
but two names to keep eyes on are Kuipers and Brayden Fleming
Expect sophomore Ronan Leonard to play an even more significant role on both sides of the ball
Snow Hill will always be competitive inside of their region and we will see if this squad is enough to take down the defending region champions
Decatur always seems to have a roster absolutely loaded with talent
The Seahawks have been completely dominant in the 2020s and come off two straight state semifinals appearances
falling in a heartbreaker to Chesapeake-AA in 2024
and strong pitching has turned Decatur into the team to beat across the Bayside Conference
Even after losing many pieces year-by-year
Decatur always finds a way to reload and find success
as they return their top arm on the mound in Nate Berzonski (Mount St
Mary’s) along with fellow senior Ben Powers (NC Wesleyan)
The Seahawks will rely on some different names to fill the rest of the innings after losing a bulk of their rotation following last year
Look for a trio of juniors in Caleb Loring
and Kyle Springle to step up and fill that void
they lose almost two-thirds of their starting lineup
but depth has always been the answer at Decatur as they always have someone ready to fill that open spot
Seniors Jackson Cheung (Randolph-Macon) and Berzonski
along with junior Johnny Hobgood are the returning mainstays throughout the lineup
The Seahawks have one of the best 2026 classes across the state
and that will be on full display this spring as Landon Daniel and Brandon Nadeau should insert themselves into the starting lineup
The Seahawks will once again be the heavy favorites to capture back-to-back Bayside titles
