BEACHWOOD – A home and three cars were completely demolished after a fire broke out early Wednesday morning
Beachwood and Pine Beach Fire Departments responded to a home on Capstan Avenue for an active structure fire
and Bayville Fire Departments were dispatched
as well as three cars parked in the driveway
The fire also tore down power lines across the road
Firefighters quickly attacked the rapidly growing fire; however
interior suppression efforts were halted when the second floor collapsed
It took the crew about one hour to control the fire
Officials confirmed no injuries resulted from the fire
A neighboring home did suffer damage from the heat
the Toms River Fire Department Company #2 provided coverage for Beachwood’s area
The fire is under investigation by the Ocean County Fire Marshal’s Office and the Beachwood Police Department

The city’s One-Stop Business Resource Center
provides most services and information at no cost and offers a wide variety of resources that support business growth and expansion opportunities.
The Resource Center offers a variety of resources including these three guides that provide step-by-step plans: Small Business Guide; Starting Your Business in Ohio Kit; and Hiring Your First or Next Employee Guide
created by the City of Beachwood’s economic development office
has also been met with an enthusiastic reception.
The Resource Center covers many relevant business topics
the City of Beachwood’s economic development director
says several topics especially important to small businesses are particularly paramount
“Businesses are often asking about what type of financial assistance is available to help them continue to grow,” says Bieterman
Businesses want to know how they can find new opportunities to connect with other businesses within the community
businesses want support for bringing in new employees.”
The Resource Center also provides information regarding cyber security
“Our guides and resources take you from starting a business to helping you decide what you want to do with it when you want to step aside or hand it off to the next generation or entity,” explains Bieterman
Beachwood has an advantage over many other communities
because it has “a great variety of spaces available to businesses
from co-working spaces to C-suite level offices.”
The Resource Center can help locate spaces that are a good fit for specific businesses
it can give companies direction and support for making that space their perfect
who can boast of almost 2,500 companies and 25,000 employees in the city
The community can count businesses — large
finance and real estate development sectors among those with a Beachwood address.
Technology and research are also at the forefront of development
The city has implemented a new loan program that “supports research and development
innovation and the commercialization of new products,” Bieterman notes
The Resource Center has built strong relationships with partners who enhance programs and offer additional support to businesses
Among them are Tri-C and Corporate College East and its scholarship opportunities and business acceleration programs and the Beachwood Chamber of Commerce under the direction of Executive Director David Lapierre
under the direction of Branch Librarian Amia Wheatley
hosts Small Business Educational Series programs to help businesses advance to the next level.
BEACHWOOD -- The borough's beach will be closed this summer to swimming
following frequently high bacteria counts along its shoreline throughout 2024
The beach "may not ever reopen (to swimming)," said borough Business Administrator Sue Minock
"The Council is discussing what they're going to do
as far as what else they can do with the area."
borough officials closed the beach to swimming for the rest of that summer season
after frequent water testing showed bacteria levels that were often above the safe swimming standards set by New Jersey health officials
At the time, the borough's officials cited "the safety, health and welfare of the residents and others" who use the beach as reason for the decision
The beach's position in a cove-like area of the Toms River prevents bacteria from being washed out regularly
a spokesman for the Ocean County Health Department told the Asbury Park Press last year
The health department is responsible for testing water there and at other swimming beaches around the county
Minock said it may be months before the Council makes a decision on the future of the beach
The area remains open to recreation on the sand

parking tickets and candy wrappers create quite a scene
But there is something liberating about this atmosphere
All these pressing components of my life simply become the debris of junk around which I sit and write
Elizabeth Murray extricates us from the gravitas of quotidian life
demonstrates that the wager of living is heavy
but there is nothing more preposterous than navigating through the daily clutter of objects and information
“Work on Paper 1982-1996” at Shaheen Gallery brings together prints and drawings of Murray
The artist frees herself from the limitations that the mediums of drawing and printmaking hold by giving each composition a unique shape that breaks the standard rectilinear parameters of the work on paper
the presented shapes look like whimsical heptagrams and irregular polygons
Murray deconstructs existing structures and then reimagines them into new forms by combining multiple torn pieces of paper in individual artworks
This act produces the physical overlap of picture planes or their divisions
Challenging the conventions of art on paper in these formal ways
Murray releases the pressure of looking at art and makes the entire experience more approachable for us

As the visual content of the works comes into focus
In “Up Dog” (1987-88) and “Down Dog” (1988)
both sets of blobs generate biomorphic forms reminiscent of living organisms
Even the objects that we can discern outside of human-like forms convey a sense of vitality
This liveliness comes from the sense of movement in each composition
the viewer is immersed in a labyrinthine experience where everything is interconnected
The four small yellow forms serve as the entry point
This reveals the comical situation you are in
Murray deconstructs the awkward expression of encountering something rather than deconstructing an object itself
All this in combination holds the way of being in this world and this mode is full of joy
we forget what it means to simply be in this world
We forget how absurd our everyday encounters with something are
all the connections and articulations are revealed simultaneously in a blast of freedom
the act of interpretation meets the act of being in this world
and we laugh with joy and wild abandon at the absurdity of our lives
“Elizabeth Murray: Work on Paper from 1982-1996” is on view at Shaheen Gallery
BEACHWOOD -- Beachwood officials have tried nearly everything to reopen the borough beach to swimming
Employees here used reflective streamers and flashing lights to scare away geese — and their droppings
They have scoped their sewers with cameras looking for leaks and even hired a sewerage sniffing dog to smell out beach contamination
They have installed aerators to clean contaminants from the water
nothing has worked to reduce bacteria counts in this riverfront beach
The situation is a source of nonstop aggravation for elected leaders and administrators here
the Borough Council decided to close Beachwood Beach to swimming for the entire upcoming summer season while they continue to explore what can be done to fix the problem
Mayor Williams Cairns said he is not giving up on reopening the beach to swimming in the future
"It's very upsetting," Cairns said Monday in his office at Borough Hall
"It's not an easy decision to sit here and go 'Well
Water quality experts have not identified one single cause for the high bacteria levels along Beachwood Beach
but they suspect it could be a combination of problems
The most common causes of bacteria contamination along beaches are wildlife droppings
or stormwater runoff contaminated with lawn fertilizer or pet droppings
another cause is likely contributing to the long-term problem: the beach's cove-like location along the Toms River
This position prevents contaminants from being washed downstream; rather
bacteria and other microbes circulate within the cove and build up to levels unsafe for swimming
a representative of the Ocean County Health Department told the Asbury Park Press last year
Previously Beachwood Beach to be closed to swimming this summer: 'It may not ever reopen'
"I have stood down there for 45 minutes just watching the flow of the water," said Cairns
and it's not getting that flush out (into the river)."
health officials test beaches in Ocean County weekly for Enterococci
a type of bacteria commonly found in feces of humans and animals
The bacteria is used as an indicator species
one that suggests that other illness-causing microbes
viruses and pathogens are likely in water as well
These microbes, in large enough amounts, can cause illness, gastrointestinal cramping, vomiting and diarrhea, as well as ear, nose and throat infections, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
older adults and people with weakened immune systems are particularly susceptible to getting sick from swimming in contaminated water
Beachwood Beach is not the only one in the area plagued with frequently high bacteria counts
Other beaches in the region are also susceptible to similar problems
particularly ones along areas of the Barnegat Bay where warm and slow moving summer water provides an easy breeding ground for pathogens
The borough mayor said local officials are working with environmental groups and state and county officials to try to reopen the beach for swimming
their efforts have proven unsuccessful over the long term
"We're doing everything that we can possibly do to get our beach back open," Cairns said
the borough public works staff moved a stormwater outflow pipe away from the beach
hoping that preventing rain contaminated with yard and road pollution from flowing near the beach would decrease the bacteria counts
The borough also received a $10,000 grant from Save Barnegat Bay and Clean Ocean Action
two environmental groups focused on improving water quality in the region
Borough staff used the grant for frequent water testing at the beach and to scope Beachwood's sewer lines with cameras to look for leaks that might be contributing to the problem
The mob in Manchester: From the Asbury Park Press archives
said a team with a sewerage sniffing dog came and inspected the beach for possible contamination sources
Borough employees have also tried to deter Canada geese from lingering at the beach
in hopes of reducing their droppings and improving the local water quality
They tried installing wooden stakes with reflective streamers
hoping at least one of those efforts would scare off the birds or deter them from gathering
They have also tried aeration pumps by the beach to improve the water quality, they said. Aeration helps natural processes remove contaminants from water, by helping fish and tadpoles breath so they consume nutrients in stormwater, according to University of Florida researchers
Beachwood employees will also notify boat owners at the local marina about the county's pump out stations
Their hope is that boat owners use the stations
rather then illegally dumping their sewerage holding tanks into the river
"I don't blame the residents for being upset (that the beach is closed to swimming)," said the mayor
"But I want them to realize that it's not an easy decision."
It was a decision aimed at protecting their safety
"Our goal is to be able to reopen our beach."
She has worked for the Press for more than 17 years
The borough's beach was closed to swimming in July 2024 following four straight weeks of closures due to high levels of fecal bacteria
Borough administrator Susan Minock referred a Patch reporter to Beachwood Mayor William J
Messages left for Cairns were not immediately answered
Water quality issues have led to dozens of swimming closures at the beach over the years and in 2020, the beach was declared the dirtiest in New Jersey
The organization Environmental New Jersey named it the dirtiest beach after analyzing data of fecal bacteria from beaches in 29 states and Puerto Rico
The study indicated that 386 — or about one-eighth — of the beaches surveyed were potentially unsafe on at least 25 percent of the days when sampling occurred
water samples from the beach far exceeded the maximum allowable level of Enterococci bacteria on multiple occasions
The standard is 104 colonies per 100 milliliters of sampled water; levels of 400 were recorded several times
and a high of 1,160 was recorded just days before swimming was banned for the rest of the summer
health and welfare of the residents and others
the Mayor and Council have decided to close swimming at the beach for the remainder of the 2024 season due to the Ocean County Health Department reporting of excessive bacteria levels found in the water," the borough said at the time
The beach also was closed to swimming in 2023
but that was due to the inability to find lifeguards

BEACHWOOD–Orange trailed host Beachwood 16-10 into the top of the sixth before a 12-run rally led to a 22-20 Chagrin Valley Conference Chagrin Division win on Tuesday
In a game that saw four ties and lead changes
the Lions worked through it all to earn a much-needed conference win and stay neck-and-neck with Harvey for the league title
“It was a roller coaster of a game,” said Orange head coach Jerry Jeffrey
“We’ve played a few games like that this year
I believed in these girls (to get the win).”
Kelsey Lewis put Orange on top in the first inning with a one-out
scoring on the throw from the outfield for a 3-0 lead after one
Sarah Korland reached on an RBI fielder’s choice
and Emily Utech roped an RBI single to center for a 5-0 lead
The Bison rallied in the third inning with a six-spot to take the lead
and Lily Grover worked a bases-loaded walk
Sydney Forward then scored on a passed ball
and Amaya Brown ripped a two-run single to left to deadlock the game at 5-5
Brown came around to score the go-ahead run on a Kelsey Cohen RBI groundout
The Lions answered when Utech reached on an error that scored Arnold
and Lewis delivered with another two-run triple
later scoring on a fielding error for a 9-6 lead
Kayla Glazer added an insurance run with a run-scoring groundout
Beachwood put together a five-run fourth-inning rally thanks to a two-run Dalilah Harrison single
allowed her and Grover to score to a 10-10 tie
Beachwood rallied again for five more runs in the fifth with a Grover two-run single
and a two-run error on an Alison Stephens fly ball for a 16-10 lead after five
“We’ve been down by more and come back (to win),” Jeffrey said
“We had to be selective with our pitches and smart on the basepaths.”
Orange then rallied one more time for 12 runs in the sixth
Sara Zack and Glazer delivered back-to-back run-scoring hits
bringing three runs across to ignite the rally
Katie Frankino pushed home a run on an error
and Lewis delivered again in the clutch with an RBI double
and a two-run single from Hess sealed the deal for a 22-16 lead
The Bison scored four in the sixth with a Grover sac fly and Brown’s two-run double
The Lions have been in these types of games before and leaned on that experience to come away with a big time rivalry win
“Three of our four wins this season have been large comebacks,” Jeffrey said
and the timely hitting is the way it’s been
and sometimes you win and sometimes you lose
it was a good game between two good teams.”
going 3-for-5 with six RBI and three runs scored
while Utech drove in four runs and scored four more while going 3-for-5 at the dish
while Zack worked a 3-for-5 day and drove in two runs
while Hess also brought home two runs on a 2-for-5 outing
allowing two earned runs on seven hits with six walks and six strikeouts
but couldn’t catch up after the 12-run sixth
and it goes back-and-forth,” said Beachwood head coach Mike Coreno
but we also had a big inning where they made errors
and I felt good with us having the last at-bat
while Cohen went 1-for-4 with two runs driven in
and Harrison drove in two on a 3-for-5 outing at the dish
allowing eight runs on 18 hits with four walks and one strikeout

band Beachwood Sparks released their first album in 12 years
when a band makes a comeback after such a long hiatus
in this case you don’t need to worry about those issues
Across the River of Stars has the psychedelic country vibes longtime fans of Beachwood Sparks know and love
They did a great job of channeling their classic sound
but still making it fresh with new influences
“It’s almost like if you had a time machine, instead of going forward in time, we just pause the band, and ourselves,” guitarist “Farmer” Dave Scher told Rock and Roll Globe
“It was almost like a plant coming back up
We were getting influences from nature a lot
We were starting to get very influenced by books like Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee and Black Elk Speaks
and we’ve been learning about the First Nations people and indigenous ideas
The members of Beachwood Sparks are always seeking intellectual stimulation
but they’ve also ventured into other fields
it does come across that these guys have so many interests that influence their work
“Chris had developed a practice as a therapist back in the mid 2000s, and I’ve just followed him almost 20 years later and got an associate degree in clinical psychology,” Scher said
“Chris is a clinical psychologist and therapist and sound healer
Whether you want to say the band has a leader or not
I think he’s our touchstone because of how tuned in he is to the feelings and this kind of approach
attending remote classes while they rehearsed
and then showing up when I was out of school
But now it seems like it could be a good time to poke our head up again and see how is it now
This is a particularly interesting time to resurface as a member of the band and I think we all appreciated that fact.”
You could describe it as “alternative country,” but there are a lot of psychedelic//70s rock vibes
The way the trio blends their voices together in this album helps create a wonderful atmosphere
They’ve worked with some amazing musicians on their journey like Neal Casal
and most recently Chris Robinson of the Black Crowes
“Chris really made the album happen,” cofounder Brent Rademaker told Heads Lifestyle
but Chris had us do a little pre-production
We took one day in the studio to go through each song—he’d suggest things like
‘Kick that part out’ or ‘Do that part twice.’ For ‘Torn in Two,’ we worked on it for a whole day but couldn’t find the right arrangement
We gave ourselves over to the process of being produced.”
but also bands who have been around for years coming back from a long hiatus – including the Cure
All put out new albums in 2024 that are well worth a listen

NJ — Additional plans for the redevelopment of the former Beachwood Mall were approved by the Berkeley Township Planning Board
including the confirmation of four new businesses
Proposals for Berkeley Town Center - the site of the Beachwood Mall
long vacant - were heard by the board at their latest meeting
Redevelopers confirmed that four businesses had signed leases for the new plaza
The first phase will feature a Spark Car Wash
and there will be two additional fast food pads available
which developers are not yet seeking specific approvals for
will include a supermarket and two retail buildings
Bojangles does not have a presence in New Jersey
though one is currently planned for Piscataway
The southern chain focuses on fried chicken
The board raised concerns regarding traffic
particularly with regards to the necessity of a left turn only lane to get into the plaza
There are traffic improvements planned for the project's second phase
due to the supermarket and big box retailers
They said that the front pads were not expected to increase the level of traffic based on what the site historically has generated in terms of traffic
Chairman Nick Mackres asked if Route 9 could be widened
or to at least make a left turn only lane for those entering the plaza heading north
"So the traffic counts and the numbers don't really come into effect."
Developers agreed to work with the Department of Transportation to create a left turn lane
They also said there would be a driveway connecting with the neighboring liquor store
Improvements will be done to the signalized intersection at Gladney Avenue

admitted using his role as code enforcement officer in Beachwood in transactions that benefited himself personally
the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office said
NJ —A Toms River man has pleaded guilty to charges of theft by deception and record tampering in connection with actions he took as a code enforcement officer in Beachwood
pleaded guilty on Tuesday before Superior Court Judge Guy P
Ruvo is scheduled to be sentenced on April 11 and prosecutors are expected to seek a term of 364 days in the Ocean County Jail as a condition of probation
Ruvo also will be required to forfeit any and all future public employment and make restitution of $2,800
Ruvo was charged in September 2023 after an investigation by the prosecutor's office Economic Crimes Unit found he had "engaged in a number of unauthorized transactions wherein he utilized his position to gain unlawful personal benefits," the prosecutor's office said at the time
to the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office in the presence of his attorney and was released on a summons
As the code enforcement and zoning officer in Beachwood
Ruvo was responsible for conducting inspections to ensure compliance with various municipal ordinances
initiating legal proceedings against violators of municipal ordinances
and signing off on certificates of occupancy that permitted residences to be occupied
In that capacity he issued a code enforcement violation to a property owner on Tiller Avenue in June 2022
The property owner contacted Ruvo and said she had received an estimate to bring the property up to code but was seeking an extension of time to remedy the violation
Ruvo told the woman he knew of a company that would perform the job at a lower cost than the estimate and do it sooner
Investigators learned Ruvo was the owner of Express Cleanout and failed to disclose that to the property owner
and then his company failed to complete the job in full
Ruvo then deemed the property to be in compliance
in his capacity as the Beachwood code enforcement officer
in spite of the fact that his company did not finish the work
The prosecutor's office also said that in March 2022
Ruvo signed a certification in his role as zoning officer stating that a property on Compass Avenue in Beachwood was abandoned — a certification that would be filed as part of a tax sale foreclosure and would allow the foreclosure to be expedited
which Ruvo knew when he signed the certification
The news release on Ruvo's guilty plea did not address other accusations the prosecutor's office made in 2023
including allegations he had billed other towns for working hours at the same time he certified he was working for Beachwood
It also did not address a claim that he used information available to him as a code enforcement officer to buy a home at less than market value that had multiple code violations
TOMS RIVER - A former code enforcement and zoning officer for the Borough of Beachwood has pleaded guilty to stealing money and tampering with public records related to his position
of Toms River pleaded guilty to theft by deception and tampering with public records in connection with his former position for the Borough of Beachwood
An investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office’s Professional Standards Unit-Economic Crime Squad revealed that from September 2018 through March 2023
was responsible for conducting inspections to ensure compliance with various municipal ordinances
The investigation further revealed that Ruvo engaged in a number of unauthorized transactions and used his position to gain unlawful personal benefits
Ruvo issued a code enforcement violation to a property owner on Tiller Avenue
advising she had received an estimate to bring the property up to code but was seeking an extension of time to remedy the violation
Ruvo then advised the property owner that he knew of a company that would perform the job for less money than the estimate provided to her
Ruvo instructed the property owner to contact the company - Express Cleanout
The investigation found that Ruvo was the owner of Express Cleanout and did not tell the property owner this
Ruvo’s company then failed to complete the job in full
but still deemed the property to be in compliance in his capacity as Beachwood’s code enforcement/zoning officer
Ruvo signed a certification stating that a property on Compass Avenue in Beachwood was abandoned
that there was an occupant in the residence
and also that the certification would be filed as part of a tax sale foreclosure
and that the foreclosure would proceed in an expedited matter due to his certification
Ruvo surrendered himself to the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office in the presence of his attorney
He was released on a summons pending future appearances in Ocean County Superior Court
the State will be seeking a term of 364 days in the Ocean County Jail as a condition of probation
Ruvo will also be required to forfeit any and all future public employment and make restitution in the amount of $2,800

Panatero of Toms River (Ocean County Corrections website)TOMS RIVER
NJ — A Toms River man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison in connection with an attack where he dragged a woman out of her vehicle outside a diner in Beachwood in 2023
the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office said Monday
was sentenced Friday to 10 years in prison for aggravated assault
and seven years for eluding by Superior Court Judge Kenneth Palmer
He will be required to serve 85 percent of the sentences for aggravated assault and for robbery
as both are covered under the No Early Release Act
which included an incident in August 2022 and Panatero's arrest after fleeing a motor vehicle stop in November 2023
after he threatened a woman at her home in Toms River
Toms River police responded to a report of an assault and learned Panatero had threatened the woman and then left the house
Panatero was arrested at a Beachwood home later that day and later released under New Jersey Bail Reform
Panatero met with a woman he knew in the parking lot at the Sandcastle Diner on Route 9 in Beachwood
He pulled the woman out of her car and then tried to drive away in her vehicle
The woman suffered cuts and abrasions on her arms and legs while Panatero took off in her car
and an arrest warrant was issued and his name was entered in the National Crime Information Center database
Six days later, on Nov. 8, 2023, Panatero was arrested following a police chase in Toms River
Toms River Police Officer Michael Weg was on patrol about 11 p.m
and saw a vehicle at a Route 37 traffic signal that had been reported stolen in Bridgewater
The driver — later identified as Panatero — pulled into a parking lot and Weg pulled in behind him
turned on his overhead lights and tried to approach the vehicle
but Panatero pulled out of the parking spot and took off
Weg gave chase as Panatero took off at high speed
Panatero made an illegal left turn onto Fischer Boulevard and kept going north at speeds exceeding 90 mph
At the intersection of Fischer Boulevard and Yellowbank Road
Panatero ran a red light and hit another vehicle
They approached the vehicle Panatero was in and arrested him; he was treated at Community Medical Center and has been held in the Ocean County Jail since then
The driver of the second vehicle was treated on the scene for his injuries and refused further medical treatment
The stolen vehicle was impounded and the owner was notified
Poland junior Skevos Tsikouris tries to elude a Beachwood defender during Sunday’s regional final at Niles
NILES — It’s been an emotional five days for the Poland boys soccer team
Bulldogs senior AJ Lisko suffered a severe head injury in Poland’s come-from-behind win in the regional semifinal last week
The Bulldogs rallied around their fallen teammate
we didn’t know what the result was going to be,” Poland head coach Brian Garcar said
“We were pretty fortunate that night that we found out he was going to be OK
He was released and our guys were excited to see him the next day at practice
they’re like brothers and they stick together like family.”
with players and fans wearing shirts that read “AJ Strong.”
But despite having Lisko back on the bench to cheer them on
the Bulldogs weren’t able to stage another comeback and replicate last week’s feat
as Poland’s season came to an end with a 3-0 defeat to Beachwood in the Division IV
and they played hard for him last Wednesday in the second half and in overtime
We just came up a little bit short today,” Garcar said
“We’ve overcome a lot in the last week with the injuries
they’ve lived through more in the last week or two than a lot of people have to deal with at this point in their lives
So we were proud of the way they battled through that adversity.”
Poland largely controlled possession against the Bison
but could not find that finishing touch in the attacking third of the field
was sharp and incisive with its quick counterattacks
“They’re not 19-1-2 for no reason — they’re good,” Garcar said
They press pretty hard up top and they press hard on the wings
We just couldn’t find the right pass
… Soccer is a funny game where you can control a lot of things
but the ball just doesn’t bounce your way some nights
they capitalized on a couple of the chances they had
and it just became too much for us in the end.”
The Bison struck first in the 12th minute with a free kick goal by Grant Keilin from about 25 yards out that he whipped around Poland’s defensive wall to beat Bulldogs goalkeeper Michael Daley at the far post
Keilin scored Beachwood’s second goal in the 30th minute
as he struck a low crossbody shot to the far post from about 20 yards away
After a pair of Poland fouls inside the 18-yard box
the Bison had chances to add to their lead with penalty kicks in the 24th and 34th minutes
but Daley made critical diving saves each time to keep the Bulldogs alive
and we felt prepared for if we had to face penalties,” Garcar said
He’s been very important for our program the last three years
(The saves) gave us a little bit of life in a difficult situation where we weren’t necessarily controlling as much as we wanted to
Credit to him because he made two huge plays for us to kind of stay in it.”
After trailing 2-0 at halftime — the same deficit it faced against Field last week — Poland had to push forward to try to pull a goal back
One of Poland’s best chances came in the 55th minute when Colin McBride broke behind Beachwood’s backline after a throw-in from Jacob Hayes
but McBride’s cross into the box narrowly missed the outstretched foot of Gabe Dearing in front of the goal
“We had a couple good second-half chances
especially in the beginning of the second half,” Garcar said
“We didn’t really quite get on the end of them
The ball was just bouncing in the 18 (yard box) and we just couldn’t get on top of it.”
the Bison put the match away with a third and final goal
as Keilin sprinted past Poland’s defense and found Colin Tew on a cross that he finished into the back of the net
Poland graduates 13 seniors from this year’s squad that finished the season 17-4-1 overall
“It’s a big group of seniors who were part of multiple district and conference championships,” Garcar said
“So it’s going to be tough to lose those guys
will use this as a little bit of a taste and try to figure out a way to get back.”

BEACHWOOD, Ohio — For months, News 5 Investigators have been reportingon quality of care issues at the King David Nursing and Rehabilitation in Beachwood
this Follow-Through report has new problems
and a state senator who said enough is enough
Judy Dratler enjoyed bringing people together. “Always wanting to entertain. She always had people at the house,” said Erin Rosado from Florida, who is Dratler’s granddaughter and someone who’s fighting for Dratler’s proper care. She’s been so concerned that she put a camera in Dratler’s room as allowed by Ohio law
VIDEO INSIDE RESIDENT'S ROOM SHOWS PROBLEMS
“Who is this?” Dratler can be seen and heard in one clip Rosado shared with us
She said it’s from this year in her King David (formerly Menorah Park) room when she confronted a random man who appeared to be a resident and came into her room
“She’s a human being and she deserves to be treated such as that,” said Rosado during our interview
She also shared with us other videos of residents coming into Dratler’s room when Dratler wasn’t there
an employee with his feet on her bed while giving her medication
and other workers on their phones while on duty
They’re sitting in the office on their phones,” said Rosado
That is also an overall issue cited in an Ohio Department of Health inspection in June stating
“the facility…failed to ensure staff were not taking personal phone calls while a resident was waiting for assistance.”
“That’s not what they’re there for,” said Rosado
The inspection also showed King David “failed to ensure resident’s incontinence care was completed in a timely manner
placed soiled linen and incontinence briefs on the floor….” And it “failed to ensure (a resident’s) mechanical lift sling was properly examined… resulting in the sling strap breaking and (the) resident falling to the floor… also failed to complete a thorough investigation of the incident.”
“There doesn’t appear to be any positive movement, which is very disappointing,” said Ohio Senator Kent Smith, who represents the Beachwood area
Since speaking out publicly about King David concerns
he told us his office has heard more complaints about the new ownership and patient care
“I’ve got my most senior staff person on this,” said Smith
“He’s described it as it seems to be a bit of a Whack-A-Mole which is complaints emerge
there’s a plan of action put to correct it and then new complaints emerge.”
SENATOR: 'BUSINESS PROFITEERING ON THE BACKS OF ELDERY'
Senator Smith said the problems pointed out in several inspection reports this year are disturbing
“Is this just an out-of-state business profiteering on the backs of elderly patients and their family members
I think it’s crystal clear at this point,” Smith told us
“Either the Department of Health needs a better enforcement mechanism or perhaps state of Ohio law enforcement mechanisms need to get involved and we’re exploring those options,” said Smith
PROBLEMS WITH STATE LONG-TERM GUIDE NOW FIXED
After we informed the Department of Aging of the errors
it fixed what it called a “technical issue” and thanked us for pointing out the problems
Rosado said her grandmother is sleeping in the dining hall now
worried not only about her grandmother but also for others who have loved ones at King David
“These people can’t take care of themselves,” said Rosado
We wanted to ask King David management and owners about Rosado’s other concerns
they completely ignored our attempts to comment
Senator Smith said King David isn’t talking to him either
He said he’s also in contact with ODH for the next options to protect seniors
Beachwood High School's administration is investigating 'inappropriate conduct by members of the football team,' which led to the cancellation and forfeit of its game last week against Trinity

Ohio — Before Beachwood’s football team was slated to take the field last Friday against Trinity
citing an investigation into “inappropriate conduct by members of the football team.”
The school this week referred to a statement it issued by athletic director Ryan Peters before the game and declined further comment after messages were left for him and superintendent Dr
he wrote the game is “canceled as the high school administration investigates inappropriate conduct by members of the football team
We regret the last minute timing of this cancellation and the negative impact the cancellation has on students and families who support the football program such as our band
The school’s cancellation of the game is being deemed a forfeit by the OHSAA, which reflected it as Trinity’s fourth win of the season in this week’s football computer ratings
The Bison are scheduled to play Thursday night at Cuyahoga Heights (2-4)
