Editor's note: The National Weather revised it's snowfall totals after reporting a new record at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport Winter Storm Blair blanketed Greater Cincinnati communities with several inches of snowfall Sunday and Monday The National Weather Service said Cincinnati nearly saw a new daily snowfall record with 6.4 inches of accumulation at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport The weather service said early Monday the record had been broken but later revised its numbers Many communities in Southwest Ohio have experienced snow accumulations of more than 5 inches and Northern Kentucky has seen even higher snowfall amounts Here's what to know about local snowfall amounts near you: The Enquirer will update this story as more snowfall amounts become available Ohio (WKRC) - Dozens of firefighters responded after a house fire broke out in West Chester Township officers and firefighters responded to a call of a house fire on Eaglet Way Heavy damages to the family home have been reported Firefighters have confirmed the fire has been put out The man now charged with murder in the death of a Scott County sheriff’s deputy was already on the radar of multiple police agencies in Kentucky and Ohio after a string of burglaries Just a day before Scott County Sheriff’s Deputy Caleb Conley was shot and killed on duty, Steven Sheangshang was suspected in a string of burglaries in the West Chester area of Ohio, according to NBC-affiliate WLWT. Captain actually spotted him the day before over on the west side of Cincinnati and then we made the connection that he was in West Chester and then we put our case and the information they had to get a license plate and We used the Flock cameras to show where he was in that he was in our area and linked him to the Beckett Ridge Crossbridge area," West Chester Police Chief Joel Herzog said a meeting covered by WLWT Lexington police had at least two warrants for Sheangshang’s arrest on burglary counts Both warrants were dated last week and involved burglaries that occurred on May 14 Sheangshang is accused of taking a Dewalt table saw from a garage on Chinoe Road The victim had gone for a walk and returned to see Sheangshang leaving the garage with the saw Sheangshang allegedly went into a garage on Covington Drive in Lexington and took a Stihl weedeater and an Echo leaf blower The warrant in that burglary states that Sheangshang was caught on camera “committing other thefts in Fayette County.” Sheangshang’s criminal record goes back to the ‘90s While most of the cases are related to theft he was indicted in 1998 in Clermont County on charges of aggravated robbery and felonious assault He served nearly 14 years in jail in Kentucky on theft charges out of Harrison and Campbell counties while serving time for a robbery charge in Ohio Sheangshang wrote to a judge asking for early release and that he “did not intend harm to any person or property and these offenses will never occur again.” His request was denied Sheangshang is facing multiple charges out of Scott and Fayette counties tied to the multiple shootings and carjackings reported Monday His charges include murder of a police officer wanton endangerment and fleeing or evading police Sheangshang waived his right to fight extradition to Ohio on parole violations there Authorities in Ohio requested that their non-bondable warrant be included in Sheangshang’s file The request stressed that their warrant was not meant to interfere with his Kentucky cases and that they would only extradite him when he “becomes available to us.” Report a typo – A splash pad with a large play structure will replace a man-made pond in Beckett Park It is the first major park amenity addition in the township in more than 20 years and is being billed as the trustees’ bicentennial gift to the residents of West Chester “A splash pad has consistently come up as an amenity the residents would like to see in the park,’’ said Larry Burks The announcement comes just weeks before Founder’s Day weekend kicks off June 1-4 A groundbreaking and community event will be scheduled for July or August when construction begins on the $1.54 million project located on the west side of the park at 8545 Beckett Road Landscape Structures will construct the splash playground that will be “the largest splash pad they will construct in Ohio,’’ said Lisa Brown Bulldozers will be brought in to remove the man-made pond beginning next month It is being replaced because of maintenance issues including the need to fill the foundation daily because of a leak that can’t be fixed without tearing it out Officials said the splash playground will also be a deterrent to the geese that now inhabit the area Features of the splash playground will be accessible to children of all abilities The play structure is designed with a nature theme that includes trees and rocks in line with the park’s natural areas along with the water arcs and other water features The splash playground joins the 150-acre park’s boundless playground Shade structures and a wall for seating are part of the project Money to pay for the play area is coming from proceeds of the Ohio 747 tax increment financing agreement which established a special taxing district with dollars generated by corporate development “I can imagine this amenity is going to get a lot of use,’’ said Trustee Mark Welch “This will be a hit,’’ said Trustee Lee Wong Construction is expected to begin later this summer and the area will open to the public in the spring of 2024 Crimson Cup Coffee Shop West Chester has opened inside Telhio Credit Union's new Beckett Ridge Branch 8249 Market Place Drive in Hutzelman Square a ribbon cutting ceremony celebrated the opening of this unique facility Crimson Cup and Telhio held a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate their partnership in this unique facility “We are excited to bring our award-winning coffee and focus on good to the Cincinnati metro area Our partnership with Telhio will enhance the commitment we both share of serving the best to both our consumers and community.” - Greg Ubert "We are excited to bring our award-winning coffee and focus on good to the Cincinnati metro area," said Greg Ubert Founder and President of Crimson Cup Coffee & Tea "Our partnership with Telhio will enhance the commitment we both share of serving the best to both our consumers and community." Sobs and sniffles were heard in the courtroom as Lacey read his statement but his words did not make the ordeal easier on Valentine's parents who are struggling to forgive the teen for killing their son asked the judge to impose the maximum sentence at the hearing They said they banned Lacey from their home because he was a bad influence on their children Steel held a large photo of her son as she tearfully read her statement before the court "Mark brought great love and great joy to our family Our lives are now full of grief and unspeakable sadness," Steel said "He was a tender-hearted young man who was full of life and laughter and now our lives are full of tears and mourning "We took our roles as parents very seriously and did everything in our power to nurture and protect our children we stand here today in your courtroom following Mark's tragic and senseless death." "will be dealing with the pain of this trauma for a lifetime," Steel said Eric Valentine made the 911 call after the fatal crash and held his younger brother in his arms as he died The Valentines hope news of their son's death warns others against the dangers of drunken driving Judge Craig Hedric said all of the boys were doing shots of liquor the night of the fatal crash and he hopes this case will teach a lesson to other young people adding he hopes Lacey will turn his life around after prison have a very limited ability to make people whole again There is not enough prison time in the world to make the Valentine family whole again." Hedric took into account that Lacey was on probation at the time of the crash Juvenile court placed Lacey on probation 43 days before the crash for conspiracy to commit robbery Along with serving six years in prison and the lifetime driving ban Lacey must pay $14,519 in restitution costs to cover Mark Valentine's funeral expenses "I hope something will come out of this – that kids will learn not to get in a car and drink and drive and speed recklessly – because it costs lives," Ashley Valentine said "There is a difference between justice and forgiveness We believe justice has been served and forgiveness will come in time." we have to get the ball rolling on this issue now.  The citizens of Maple Ridge need more shopping options and they need more jobs Should considerable incentives be offered to lure more and new industry to Maple Ridge I say yes because our City has not been able to attract new industry to our community.  It would depend on the incentive provided of course and I don’t want to see excessive spending on our City’s part in order to provide those incentives Should Maple Ridge direct developers to focus on developing and densifying the three largest neighbourhoods Yes.  Densification is what our City needs.  Lets utilize the areas that are already developed and have the appropriate services provided to them.  This will reduce the cost of maintenance thus reducing city spending of our tax dollars.  I would love our downtown core to be a central gathering place where shops and housing are all within walking distance.  Lets start moving this City forward Is the homeless issue in Maple Ridge being adequately addressed I have seen this issue grow over the years right before my eyes.  It is extremely disheartening to me because sometimes I feel that I no longer recognize my community anymore This is an issue that has to be a main focus for our City; we must deal with it now I feel that we could take a better look at the services already provided and find new ways of tackling our crime and homelessness I want Council to play a larger part in this and provide our RCMP with more support.  More officers will cost us money which we do not have.  On the other hand I also believe that we could find the money to hire more officers.  Our City’s spending has to be looked at with a magnifying glass and we need stop any unnecessary expenses in order to provide the best services possible Should Maple Ridge create its own municipal police force Should council have municipal garbage pickup No.  Maple Ridge is given limited funding every year and the hiring of more staff takes away from that money.  I believe that we can work with what we have yet still provide the best services possible to our citizens Do you think residential property taxes are too high be able to add an extra percentage to the provincial sales tax – as a new source of municipal revenue Do you think business property taxes are too low Should property taxes be increased to support better transit service Should  West Coast Express be replaced with all-day express buses Should there be a limit to the number of consecutive terms a mayor/councillor can serve Don’t know.  I say I don’t know because I would never want to hinder great works by anyone in office.  Why would we remove a great leader from our community just because the time was up?  On the other hand it could eliminate those who are not providing our citizens with the right leadership Dialogue and debate are integral to a free society and we welcome and encourage you to share your views on the issues of the day.
