(CBS12) — A man from Belle Glade has been indicted for sexually abusing a girl from the ages of four through sixteen beginning in the 1980s
The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office (PBSO) said that they had received a report from a woman who told them Tom Crawford had sexually assaulted her when she was a child in 1986
began to touch her when she was around four years old
stating it happened anytime she was alone with him
he also began to have sexual intercourse with her when she was 10 years old
which prompted a report to the Department of Children and Families (DCF)
the victim was taken to Ohio to be away from Crawford
The report states that the victim was in Ohio for a few months when one day she saw Crawford
who had come to Ohio to bring her back to Belle Glade
The victim told deputies that when she was back in Florida
Crawford would go into her room at 1:30 to 2 a.m
She noted that he did it to her so many times that she lost count
the sexual abuse continued through elementary
The last time Crawford allegedly attempted to assault her
the report says that the victim wrote a letter explaining everything that went on
and if she had to go back to Crawford's home
deputies said they met with the victim for a controlled phone call with Crawford
She told him that she forgives him for the things he did to her
Crawford allegedly told the victim that "he does not need her to be his savior" and allegedly refused to acknowledge that he sexually assaulted her
Crawford was arrested in March and was indicted on two counts of sexual battery on a person less than 12 years old
Crawford's next court hearing is on April 24

(CBS12) — A Belle Glade man is accused in a string of crimes that grabbed the attention of the CBS12 News I-Team over the summer: Now we can report
about the high octane plot he's allegedly a part of
Twenty-three-year-old Reynaldo “Rey” Diaz is currently in federal custody and the story behind his arrest in the state of Connecticut conjures up a techno-thriller meets Fast and the Furious
Five of Diaz's friends are also in custody
It’s not clear if he was the ringleader or a foot-soldier
but he hails from the rural cow town in Palm Beach County
And Diaz still apparently has ties to Belle Glade
but he’s made quite a name for himself in Miami and in cyberspace
He told police his home was a house on Avenue F
no one has reached out to the I-Team since leaving our contact information on the front step
Rey Diaz was arrested for unlaw restraint and conspiracy to commit unlawful restraint
Federal authorities say Rey Diaz and five pals traveled from Florida to Connecticut
They’re accused of targeting a married couple in their 50s- who was out for a drive in their Lamborghini
Diaz and company are accused of crashing into the couple with their rental car
forcing the couple into the van; tying them up and putting duct tape over their mouths
Other drivers saw the incident unfolding and called 9-1-1
Officers heading to the scene spotted the white van
The victims were taken to the hospital; the suspects caught and cuffed
the feds weren’t saying a lot about the motive behind the attempted kidnapping but a tipster told the I-Team
Two years before he became a suspect in the Danbury case
Rey Diaz was the victim of something kind of similar
He and a friend were parked in a yellow Corvette
A masked gunmen tried to carjack Diaz and the pal and Diaz got shot
A news crew from CBS Miami was rolling as Diaz was unloaded from the ambulance
The other man in the Corvette from the incident says on that night
2022) he and Diaz were going to a nightclub; they were sporting expensive watches and jewelry
But now police in Miami say Diaz was something of an armed robbery and carjacking guru
It's possible he got shot by accident by members of his own crew
Two suspects from an additional Miami carjacking involving Diaz are also part of the Connecticut case
Diaz and his accomplices were netting hundreds of thousands of dollars
cops and the feds have a new theory about how Diaz became rich at 21
Investigators now believe that Rey Diaz used the online name Pantic and was bragging about a crypto currency heist that raked in hundreds of millions of dollars
Investigators believe a wealthy victim in Washington
was bamboozled by Rey Diaz and accomplices to reveal sensitive information about his crypto-currency accounts
that enabled the suspects to rob the victim
the suspects converted the crypto into actual currency; like bearer bonds being transferred to offshore accounts
And that attempted kidnapping in Connecticut: The feds say
the couple’s 19-year-old son was perhaps part of that crypto heist too
Mom and dad in the Lambo were going to be held hostage because their son and his alleged partners in crypto-crime had a falling out
Facing the case in Connecticut and Florida
Reynaldo “Rey” Diaz might not be returning to Belle Glade for a very long time
and a mother was threatened with a gun after the boy's father and his girlfriend showed up at their home
The Palm Beach Sheriff's Office (PBSO) said that on April 6
deputies responded to a victim's home after receiving a domestic dispute report at 10:19 p.m
a verbal altercation ensued between McClorin
See also: Man fatally shot in crossfire during dispute in a Florida mall's parking lot
physically attacked the son by choking him
The mother told deputies that she attempted to intervene and pull Duhart
at which point McClorin allegedly kicked his son in the back
The report states that Duhart then urged McClorin to retrieve a gun from their car
She proceeded to point the firearm at the mother
including scratches and redness around his neck and back
McClorin now faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and battery
while Duhart is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and battery by strangulation

was gunned down as he and his 5-year-old daughter returned home and were getting out of their vehicle
Powell pulled his 5-year-old daughter close
on Monday to a 911 call from a woman who claimed her boyfriend had been shot outside of his Belle Glade home
unresponsive suffering from multiple gunshot wounds
The report states that during the investigation
deputies discovered twelve spent shell casings at the scene

The woman explained she was in a romantic relationship with Powell

Surveillance footage helped deputies identify Benette’s car in the area during the time of the shooting
a security camera from Powell's home captured the moment he was shot while trying to protect his daughter
The video revealed that the shooter was positioned about 25 feet away
The arrest report says the video was cloudy and distorted and detectives could not get a clear view of the gunman
PBSO executed a search warrant at Benette's residence

"It's a family here so when we lose somebody that's a part of the agency
everybody takes it pretty hard," said Ric Bradshaw
Thursday when Bradshaw announced PBSO had made an arrest
"When you have somebody like this that has violent tendencies
how many law enforcement officers get killed just walking up to a car
These are just violent people and they do violent things," Bradshaw said Thursday
insisting he was at home during the incident
he had no explanation when confronted with the surveillance evidence
"I have never fired a gun in my life."
"My client's looking forward to having his day in court and the whole truth will come out," said Marc Shiner
Shiner says he feels the sheriff's office should've brought in an outside agency to investigate this case
given that one of their own deputies was the victim
"If the Sheriff is so hurt and personally offended by this case
there's a lot of pressure on the underlings to solve this case and sometimes police rush to judgement
Whether they did or didn't in this case
why did they not have another agency assist or take the lead in this matter
Why didn't they have an outside agency look into this case if you really want to be fair?" Shiner said

When Khrysten Sears Spencer graduated from Glades Central High School in 2006
she listed her two favorite accomplishments: “having a baby and becoming valedictorian.”
The Belle Glade resident had graduated top of her class while spending much of her senior year pregnant and then raising a newborn
So when she was admitted to the University of Florida
there was never any doubt about one thing: Her daughter
With help from a new UF program to support students who are first in their families to attend college
Sears Spencer was able to afford a dormitory on campus for students who are married or have families
She stayed there with little Allannah for her entire college career
A day care would pick up Allannah in the mornings and Sears Spencer would walk to class
as she pursued a degree in speech and language pathology
It wasn’t easy balancing studies and the responsibilities of a single mother
And her college experience was unlike those of most undergraduates
Sears Spencer was usually caring for her young daughter
And her parents had offered to care for their granddaughter while Sears Spencer went off to college
“I think it was more of ‘I got this,’ ” she recalled
After she graduated, they moved back to Belle Glade and she got a job as a speech and language pathologist for Palm Beach County’s public school system
she works primarily with students at Rosenwald Elementary in South Bay
Allannah followed in her mother’s footsteps as a high-achieving Glades Central High student
Last year she graduated fourth in her class
she was accepted at UF and enrolled there this fall to study engineering
The mother-daughter duo were recently the focus of a feature article on UF’s website highlighting the benefits of the Machen Florida Opportunity Scholars program
the one that paid for Sears Spencer’s college costs
Sears Spencer says she hopes her experience helps other young mothers realize it’s possible to balance motherhood and professional ambitions even at young ages

(CBS12) — A 20-year-old man's quest for revenge left a trail of 51 bullet shell casings outside a home in Belle Glade
The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office (PBSO) reported that on May 11 at 3 a.m.
deputies responded to a home in Belle Glade after receiving reports of a shooting
they stated that they found two people inside the home during the incident
the victims noted that they did not see the shooter or a vehicle but heard men yelling
PBSO identified a car involved in the shooting that was also linked to a separate shooting that occurred four hours earlier on Vaughn Circle in Belle Glade
The report states that in the earlier shooting
a victim was transported to Lakeside Medical Center in the same vehicle involved in both incidents
and investigators determined it was driven by 20-year-old Ja'mari Hughes around 11:30 p.m
Hughes expressed to detectives that he was "distraught" about his friend's shooting
Detectives reported identifying the suspected shooter in the Vaughn Circle incident as someone who was present during the 3 a.m
deputies stated that they interviewed Hughes’ mother
and learned that Hughes had not been home since 5:30 p.m
After noticing that Hughes briefly visited his home
deputies reported following him to a home on Seminole Court in Pahokee
PBSO noted that they seized the vehicle and surrounded the house
Hughes allegedly told detectives that he left his home around 3 a.m
claiming he had not returned to Belle Glade
when asked if a firearm would be found in his car
insisting he had never been involved with guns
"the DNA results in the case would prove otherwise."
Deputies stated that a search of the residence uncovered a firearm and a set of car keys hidden under the stove
an empty box of 9mm ammunition was found in a trash can
along with a magazine filled with ammunition
Ballistics tests confirmed that the firearm matched the shell casings discovered outside the home after the 3 a.m
Detectives believe that Hughes fired at the Belle Glade home in retaliation for his friend's shooting
Hughes was apprehended on Thursday and has been accused of premeditated attempted murder in the first degree
two counts of attempted murder with a firearm and a weapon offense

Investigators determined that Powell was gunned down while exiting his vehicle and entering his front door with his young daughter
Powell's girlfriend told detectives that she and the victim first met in 2016 and remained close friends — even becoming intimate — until about 2021
The woman — who the report only identifies as "cooperating witness #1" — said her relationship with Powell dissolved
She later met Benette but their relationship became "somewhat tumultuous and dysfunctional" and she rekindled her romance with Powell
The report said that this "infuriated" Benette and it was "obvious" that he was "disenchanted" with her relationship with Powell
she and Benette were involved in a fight on Sept
that prompted a call from neighbors about a report of a woman being battered by a man in a driveway
the affidavit said detectives reviewed surveillance cameras mounted on a business near where the shooting took place
The report said the cameras showed the suspect's Chevrolet Tahoe "driving from the general direction of the homicide scene" at about 7:34 p.m
Detectives also said that Benette's phone indicated that it was "in the approximate geographic area of the homicide scene."
Investigators said Ring surveillance cameras showed that Powell was about to enter the front door of his home with his daughter when he was shot by the gunman
who was standing about 25 feet behind the victim
