A driver's roadside outburst landed him in handcuffs Friday after he allegedly yelled at firefighters
(CBS12) — A driver's roadside outburst landed him in handcuffs Friday after he allegedly yelled at firefighters
officers with the Boca Raton Police Department (BRPD) responded to W
Palmetto Park Road and I-95 for a call that a vehicle was forcing people off the road
Officers say the caller was a Boca Raton Fire Rescue (BRFR) firefighter
a driver in a black Hyundai Sonata was traveling South on I-95 while BRFR was clearing an unrelated crash
later identified as 40-year-old Christian Di Orsini
One firefighter approached Di Orsini to see if any assistance was needed when the suspect allegedly yelled "don't block me in!" before backing into the fire engine and speeding off
Officers reported tracking down the suspect using traffic cameras and locating him stationary in the Northbound lanes of Dixie Highway just south of NE 28th Street
and Di Orsini admitted that he may have "hit something," according to the criminal probable cause affidavit
and reportedly spoke inconsistently with both his reasoning and logic
The suspect told officers that he was coming from Deerfield
where he "was hearing sirens," and when he saw BRFD and became "triggered" to the point he felt he needed to yell at them
Though officers believed Di Orsini may be under the influence
a breathalyzer failed to detect any alcohol
though a urine sample was taken for testing
Officers found probable cause to book Di Orsini on counts of DUI with property damage and leaving the scene of an accident

About two years ago, Perry started an initiative to install life rings in waterways to prevent drownings, a move inspired by her son. Through her, the Aden Perry Foundation has since donated close to 500 life rings across South Florida

DELRAY BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — Grief fills the halls of Atlantic Community High School, where students are mourning 17-year-old Brooke Stark — a senior killed in a devastating plane crash with her dad and grandfather last week
“It’s just extra sad because she made it so far
and right when she’s about to make it to the finish line
things happen and it’s really unfortunate,” said classmate Jason Timothee
who wore a blue jacket Monday in her memory
Students wore blue on Monday as part of a tribute called #BlueForBrooke
“She was kind and outgoing,” added Ryan Monestime
but they really don’t encapsulate everything that she was
Grief counselors were on campus throughout the day
Brooke was one of three people on board a twin-engine Cessna 310 that crashed Friday morning near the Town Center Mall
81-year-old Robert Stark — both certified private pilots — also died in the crash
The plane had just taken off from Boca Raton Airport around 10 a.m.
Radar tracking shows the plane began circling multiple times before crashing onto train tracks just west of I-95
A driver on Military Trail tried to swerve around the fireball and falling debris — lost control — and hit a tree
Officials say he survived with minor injuries
Investigators with the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are working to determine what caused the crash
Many are speculating that a mechanical issue — possibly a stuck left rudder — could have contributed to the plane’s repeated turns and inability to climb
“The flight path is consistent with it,” said Dan Brauser
a pilot who has owned and flown a Cessna 310
“If you did have full deflection of the left rudder
The plane is going to want to yaw to the left.”
Brauser noted that the plane never gained altitude
“Your option set is much thinner because there's just not as much room for error.”
While federal investigators piece together what happened
the emotional toll of the crash is being felt deeply at Brooke’s school in Delray Beach
“It’s crazy how one day someone can just be gone
a lot of people are just really sad about the situation,” said Timothee
sent a message to families over the weekend
informing them about the tragedy and the availability of mental health resources on campus
A preliminary report from the NTSB is expected within 30 days
A full final report could take up to two years
Several major roadways were closed after the crash — including I-95 at Glades Road and sections of North Military Trail
with attendees on floats and boat decks under clear skies
Law enforcement maintained an increased presence on the water, but no major incidents were reported as of late Sunday, April 27. Boca Bash
which has drawn criticism in the past for safety concerns
once again brought visitors from across the region for a day of music

Boca Raton Mayor Scott Singer finally waved the white flag
For months, Singer had fixated on the idea of a new flag for Boca Raton’s centennial
The city will mark it on the 25th of this month
but events are taking place throughout the year
Boca Raton has hired an outside firm to market the centennial
A “flag redesign” page was on the city’s website
After consulting with the North American Vexillological Association—”the largest association of flag enthusiasts and experts in the world”—Singer offered prototypes
emphasizing colors and designs to highlight the ocean
According to the Boca Raton Historical Society
Singer is right that the flag misrepresents the city
It features a Spanish galleon and “Boca de Ratones.” That’s Spanish for a craggy inlet (or
It supposedly represents the Boca Raton Inlet
But the original “Boca de Ratones” was not here
Singer had no more success in building support for a new flag than Sheldon Cooper did in getting people to watch his “Fun With Flags” videos during episodes of “The Big Bang Theory.” Residents speaking on other topics at council meetings would gesture toward the proposed redesigns and add that they were lousy
during last week’s council workshop meeting
Singer asked his colleagues for their opinions
Councilwoman Yvette Drucker said a new flag was “not a priority.” She said some residents saw the March 31 post as “an April Fools’ Day joke.” Deputy Mayor Fran Nachlas and Councilman Marc Wigder said residents seem to take pride in the current flag
Because the city is hawking centennial-related merchandise
Singer suggested that his campaign helped to “sell a lot of swag
Two current council members will run against each other in March to become mayor of Boca Raton
three-year term in Seat B; Wigder and Nachlas use the same consultant
A poll has been out for several weeks testing support for Thomson against other incumbents
I would expect multiple candidates to file for it
Drucker also must leave her seat in 2026 to run for the Florida Senate
Though an April 21 status check was postponed, the case of the man accused of murdering two people last September in Boca Raton is proceeding
De’Vante Moss also is accused of attempted first-degree murder in the incident that happened at an oceanfront hotel
Boca Raton police investigators have turned over their findings to the state attorney’s office
Prosecutors have said they will not seek the death penalty
even though Moss is charged with premeditation in all three shootings
One reason for the status check being delayed until July 27 likely was a motion Moss filed himself with the Florida Supreme Court
The writ of mandamus—which I am quoting as Moss wrote it—asked the justices for “all government staff on my case … on the behave of collecting all personal files unit assignment referring to Boca Raton Police Department of disciplinary action found sustained or unsustained and will also like to get (BWC) of Boca Police Department and any other government involved in my case.”
Moss filed the request under the state law covering complaints against law enforcement officers
“due to incarceration.” The public defender’s office is representing him
The justices sent it back to the trial judge
Former Delray Beach City Commissioner Ryan Boylston has been named CEO of a company that wants to help people grow their own food
installation and maintenance for produce gardens
He served on the commission from 2018 until 2024
but he had been looking for something new and happened to be speaking with Jayson Koss
Koss had been considering an investment in Urban Abundance
But he’s excited about spreading the word that food doesn’t come from a store
he’s gone to Career Day at his children’s school
On the agenda for tonight’s meeting of the Boca Raton Planning and Zoning Board is a proposed townhouse project on two adjoining lots near Silver Palm Park
The developer wants to build seven units on the vacant properties at 450 and 468 E
Though single-family homes are on either side
the staff report calls the project “contextually sensitive” to the residences
In recommending approval to the city council
the staff also notes the proposed 30-foot setbacks
Another multi-family project is across the street
Because the developer seeks a land-use change from residential low to residential medium-high
approval by the council would require four votes

The video showed two people on the boat grab two large trash bins and dump the contents overboard

BOCA RATON — Boca Bash is returning April 27, and despite its popularity among party-goers
the annual boating event has taken quite the beating in terms of negative publicity the past few years
faced felony charges following an investigation launched by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC)
One of their parents apologized through a spokesperson
saying the family was “extremely saddened” by the incident and encouraged community service as a punishment for the teens
However, the controversy surrounding the Boca Bash doesn’t stop there
stemming from a website invitation in 2007 that got out of hand
Officials are still dedicating numerous resources to attempt to police the event
the city spent nearly $45,000 on police monitoring
on an event that is not sanctioned and really in any way related to the city,” City Councilman Andy Thomson said
Both the Coast Guard’s boat crews and law enforcement partners will be monitoring this year’s Boca Bash

Buckley said he thinks the plane had an issue with the rudder causing it to lose control
“The aircraft is on the edge of being out of control,” said Buckley
“I'm beyond impressed that they stayed airborne for 11 minutes."
Buckley believes the issue pertains to the rudder
"So when you zoom in and look at the rudder

Buckley said both Robert and Steven Stark have decades of combined experience
