joined University of South Carolina Upstate Chancellor Bennie L
Harris as the second-ever student to participate in the university’s “Chancellor for a Day” experience
who plans to attend USC Upstate this fall to pursue a degree in secondary education
aspires to become a high school history teacher
very excited to attend here in the fall,” Weisner said
“It speaks to the opportunities they give their students in order to succeed even before they start coming.”
Weisner is one of 300 Spartanburg County high school students who have been offered the USC Upstate Promise Scholarship
which provides recipients the chance to earn a bachelor’s degree debt-free
a distinction that offers high school students the opportunity to develop their teaching skills and gain hands-on experience in the field
Weisner began her day in the chancellor’s office with a cup of coffee
served in a mug bearing Chancellor Harris’ favorite quote from his mother
Charlie Mae Harris: “Live life with an empty cup
There should always be room in your cup to receive input from others.” She was then briefed on the day’s schedule
public speaking opportunities and a behind-the-scenes look at various campus projects
She was introduced to members of the university’s leadership team and received a short history lesson on the institution’s past chancellors before taking an exclusive tour of the library’s new extension
focused on how the university’s new and improved facilities are designed to support student success
“I really enjoyed learning how intentional every building is,” Weisner said

She concluded her day by receiving a certificate of recognition and reflecting on the lessons learned throughout her experience

Boiling Springs lacrosse coach Tanner Mills won a bet with his future wife five years ago when they were on their way to a restaurant
Mills bet they would see a kid playing lacrosse by himself
Lincoln Huskey was in seventh grade at the time and was trying out for junior varsity lacrosse
He always was out there bouncing a lacrosse ball against a brick wall
“I was the worst one on the team,” said Huskey
“COVID hit during that time (canceling the season after six games) and I just stayed in the backyard all day
I started shooting at a little goal I found on Facebook marketplace.”
Huskey is now senior captain and leading scorer for Boiling Springs
The Bulldogs (11-4) went 6-0 in Class AAAAA District 2 and are ranked No
Huskey has 31 goals and the highest scoring average of his career
which included a 2024 season in which he had 34 assists and 45 goals
Not bad for someone who used to be overmatched by a brick wall
best player in South Carolina,” Mills said
creating things for his teammates instead of doing it by himself
But he can do it by himself if he wants to.”
As the starting quarterback for Boiling Springs football
Huskey passed for 1,823 yards (63.4 completion percentage) and 20 touchdowns with just two interceptions in 2024
He also ran for three TDs and led Boiling Springs to a 7-4 record
“I didn’t have a sport in the spring and I wanted to be active,” Huskey said
“It was either lacrosse or baseball and I just decided to try something new
Lacrosse definitely helped me with my footwork as a quarterback
being able to escape the pocket and just be able to balance myself.”
Huskey had some football attention from colleges but signed to play lacrosse at Queens University

“There is just something different with Lincoln when he plays lacrosse
There is a freedom and excitement and happiness that he plays with
I’ve never seen a guy that loves the game the way he does.”

I lived just a couple of miles from this place for a few years, and I'm surprised I've never heard of it. It's called Boiling Springs, and it's a natural wonder right here in Minnesota.
Next I started searching for bogs and wetlands in Minnesota when I stumbled on Boiling Springs located in Savage
It's pond that appears to boil and sometimes erupt with water shooting several feet upwards
It's a natural wonder and it was actually a tourist destination back in the early 20th century. According to the Scott County Historical Society, postcards were printed and people visited to see the marvel
It was also a sacred site for the Dakota Native American Tribe
coming from the word for “earth” (maka) and “to make muddy or roil up” (yusota)
There's a pool of water that is directly over an artesian well
A thick layer of sand is at the bottom of the pool of water
it releases the water in a burst and looks like boiling water
It's on Eagle Creek right before the Minnesota River. The Minnesota DNR has actually bought the land within 200 feet of the creek to preserve it. They have more information on their website with access points
The entire stream is within the Eagle Creek Aquatic Management Area and the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge
only four access points are available to the public
One of these accesses is a small parking lot located south of State Highway 101 along the frontage road
Three other access points are via roadside pull-offs along Independence Avenue

Shannon King likes to say that she is the king who lives in a castle of the heart
who moved into Le Chateau du Coeur after purchasing the Boiling Springs mansion last year
said the name of the house translates from French to “Castle with a heart.”
formerly owned by Mary and Talmadge Turner and known as the Turner Trucking mansion
is located on Whitaker Road and is now a wedding and event venue
King worked in the corporate world until a serious car wreck upended her world
leaving her recovering from serious injuries and adapting to new limitations
She had to relearn how to walk and found herself seeking a new purpose
She unexpectedly found it in Cleveland County
King said she was born and raised in Houston
but moved to Concord for a corporate job helping develop student housing
she said she could no longer do all the things she once could and found herself assessing what she enjoyed doing in life as well as what her skillset was
“I figured out I liked helping people achieve their dreams,” she said
King began looking for a place where she could rebuild her life
something with a large piece of land where she could host retreats for women
a friend sent her the listing for the Chateau in Boiling Springs
Although she hadn’t planned to live in Cleveland County
she decided to take a look at it and prayed that God would make it easy and give her a sign
she popped a tire on a paving stone in the driveway and was so distraught she had a hard time focusing on the tour of the house
someone at the home had already fixed her tire and one of the inscriptions above a doorway read
“That kind of precipitated me figuring out my next phase of my journey was going to be in Cleveland County,” she said
embodies the grace and allure of an Old-World European château with modern luxury
fireplace and covered walkway perfect for outdoor wedding ceremonies
People can also celebrate anniversary parties
birthdays and other life events at the chateau
She hopes to not only live in the community
but be an active part of it and contribute to making it a better place to live
She said there should be no hungry children
