ExpandA sign for Interstate 55 in Will County seen on Tuesday
A crash on Interstate 55 in Bolingbrook led to the rollover of a semitrailer carrying products from a brewing company
About 10:55 a.m. Monday, officers responded to a three-vehicle crash involving a semitrailer containing Anheuser-Busch products, according to a statement from Illinois State Police Trooper Jayme Bufford.
The crash occurred at milepost 268 on I-55.
The semitrailer is blocking all northbound lanes of I-55 and one southbound lane on the same highway, Bufford said.
Traffic has been rerouted from I-55 to Illinois Route 53.
The driver of the semitrailer was taken to a hospital with injuries, Bufford said.

ExpandBolingbrook's Daniel Kaduthodil (Rob Oesterle)
BOLINGBROOK – With a full arsenal of weapons to choose from, Bolingbrook setter Daniel Kaduthodil is one of the happiest volleyball players around
Kaduthodil distributed 17 assists Thursday night as the Raiders made quick work of Valley View School District and Southwest Prairie Conference rival Romeoville 25-18, 25-13 in front of the 15th-ranked Lewis University men’s volleyball team, which made the short trip to watch the two rivals play.
The win moves the Raiders to 21-5 overall and 5-0 in the conference as they continue to take aim at the school-record 27 wins set by last season’s team.
“It’s an amazing feeling,” Kaduthodil said about the team’s strong season. “Coming off of club season and into school, our whole drive has been to beat the record of last year’s team.
“It’s great for me as a setter with guys like Trevor Wardlow, Edison Ah-Yo, Tavares Campbell, Yashua Beals, pretty much everybody. All I have to do is get it in the air somewhere near the net and someone is going to put it down. We started a little slow in the second set, but we know we are a good team and we just stuck with it.”
Using the energy from the excitement of seeing the Lewis men’s team, Bolingbrook got off to a quick start. Wardlow delivered three aces in a nine-point serving run to help build an 11-2 lead. The lead stretched to 19-9 before Romeoville (4-18, 1-4 SPC) picked up four straight points, getting a kill by Cameron Anderson and two aces by Jack Johnson to make it 19-13, but the Spartans got no closer.
The second set was a different story early on. Romeoville jumped out to a 10-6 lead, getting a kill each from Johnson and Cei’Montay Hopkins and a block by Easton Neely.
Bolingbrook, however, had the answer, and the answer’s name was Trevor Wardlow. Wardlow, who finished with 11 kills, had five of them in an 8-0 spurt that put the Raiders ahead 14-10. After a Bolingbrook hitting error made it 14-11, the Raiders went on a 6-0 run to move the lead to 20-11, getting a kill from Wardlow, two aces by Kaduthodil and blocks by Campbell, Wardlow, Dylan Barrera and Ah-Yo, who also had six kills.
“With the Lewis team here, we kind of lost our focus in the second set for a while,” Bolingbrook coach Molly DeSerf said. “We had to reel that in and focus on what we are trying to do, and that’s win a conference championship.
“We’ve had our ups and downs this season, but the key is to be consistent and play the whole way through the match. We want to limit the runs that the other team has. It has been a battle, but these guys know when to go and they find ways to get it done.”
Romeoville got three kills from Hopkins and two kills and a block from Neely, two of the three sophomores on the Spartans’ roster.
“We had a nice stretch where we stuck right with them,” Romeoville coach Debra Fehrenbacher said. “A lot of teams think they can just slough us off, but our guys give everything they have every day. I can’t ask for more than that.
“We are a young team. We have three sophomores on the team. One of them played JV last year, one played freshman level, and one played baseball. Easton Neely was on the baseball diamond last spring, but he has been a true asset to the program, just like everyone else on the team.”
ExpandA Bolingbrook police squad vehicle seen in 2022
A 2-year-old child from Bolingbrook has died after being struck by a vehicle.
Bolingbrook police officers responded to the 300 block of Grand Canyon Drive on Sunday afternoon for a report of a child who had been struck by a vehicle, police said.
Upon arrival Sunday, officers found the child, who had been struck by a vehicle backing out of a driveway, police said.
Officers provided emergency medical aid until paramedics arrived from the Bolingbrook Fire Department, authorities said.
The child was taken to a local hospital and remained in critical condition but succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday, police said.
“This is a tragic incident for everyone involved,” authorities said in a police department news release.
The fatal crash remains under investigation by the Bolingbrook Police Department’s Traffic Unit.
IL — After complaints from area residents and visitors and "certain public allegations" from Danny's Pizza and Burger Bar
the Promenade Bolingbrook has released a statement sharing that an eviction complaint was filed in August 2024 for Danny's
"While we typically refrain from addressing legal matters in a public forum
we feel compelled to correct the record due to the spread of one-sided and misleading narratives that we believe are causing harm to the reputation of The Promenade and
to its valued tenants," the Promenade Bolingbrook said
Danny's Pizza has said the construction on the Promenade Bolingbrook in front of the restaurant dealt a "crushing blow" to the restaurant
The restaurant also said the landlord was not motivated or interested in working with them
The Promenade Bolingbrook revealed that on March 24
a judge in the Will County Circuit Court ruled in favor of ownership of the shopping center
and an eviction order was issued and judgment was awarded for $163,891.91 against Danny's
Danny's, which also has a location in Chicago
had not issued a statement on the matter as of Tuesday
The Promenade Bolingbrook said the judgment amount reflects past-due rent
Danny's was also ordered to vacate the premises by May 23
The business has previously said that its last day at The Promenade will be April 27
this judgment stems from an eviction complaint filed by Ownership in August 2024
more than seven months ago and over a month prior to the start of any construction activities at The Promenade," the Promenade Bolingbrook said
The Promenade Bolingbrook has also filed a motion to dismiss a lawsuit that Danny's filed against them in January 2025
"While our motion primarily addresses legal principles
it highlights a critical point: Danny’s was already more than $80,000 in arrears before construction ever began," the Promenade said
The shopping center added that Danny's has not made a full and timely rent payment since 2023
The restaurant first opened in the Promenade in 2020
The Promenade Bolingbrook said it works collaboratively with tenants experiencing financial strain
the shopping center said it restructured the lease to support continued operations of the restaurant
which included forgiveness of $200,000 in past-due rent
"We want the public to know that we understand the significance of The Promenade to the Village of Bolingbrook," the statement reads
"This project is a cornerstone of the community
and we take our stewardship of it seriously
While The Promenade may evolve in the coming years
we are committed to investing millions — if not tens of millions — of dollars into its revitalization."
The Promenade Bolingbrook said this will be the only public statement it makes about Danny's
"We intend to resolve the remainder of this matter privately and will not be responding to additional comments or inquiries."
and a homicide investigation is underway after police responded to Grove Court at 11 p.m

Detectives and evidence technicians also responded to the scene to assist with the investigation

ExpandMark Bell (Photo provided by Will County Sheriff's Office)
A Chicago man has become the second defendant charged with the 2024 murder of a tattoo artist in Bolingbrook
Bell has also been charged with home invasion
attempted armed robbery and other offenses
Johnson was killed in a shooting on May 16
at an apartment in the 500 block of Preston Drive
The investigation of the shooting has already led to the arrest of Carla Williams, 29, of Atlanta, Georgia
The events leading to the shooting began when Williams was picked up in Georgia by a friend who then took her to Chicago
according to a court filing from prosecutors
Neither Williams nor her friend had a job or income
Williams learned her friend had a relationship with Johnson and he would give her “large sums of money,” prosecutors said
Williams developed a plan to rob and kill Johnson
Carla Williams (Photo provided by Will County Sheriff's Office)
Williams and her friend had picked up a man known as “Boosie” from Chicago and traveled to Johnson’s apartment in Bolingbrook
Williams gave “Boosie” a handgun and instructed him to kill Johnson
Johnson was tattooing a client at the apartment
The client knew Johnson as a tattoo artist who advertises his tattoos on Instagram
The client had his back to the door and he was watching TV when he heard a knock on the door
The client heard a female say she wanted to use his phone to “make a call really quick,” prosecutors said
A person entered the apartment and the client heard a male voice saying his sister wanted to use Johnson’s phone to call Amtrak
“That’s all you needed to say,” prosecutors said
The client then heard three to four gunshots and dropped to the floor
The client never turned around while the two people were inside the apartment
sold her cellphone and she was present when the firearm used to kill Johnson was also sold
Williams also obtained a ticket to travel back to Georgia
Officers managed to find Williams on July 11, 2024, in Rockford, where she was apprehended, prosecutors said.

which led many of our patrons to believe we were closed
dealt us a crushing blow," the business said
"Despite our best efforts and hopes to renegotiate our lease with the landlord
their lack of motivation or interest in working with us has made it impossible to stay open."
The business said it has offered all of the current Bolingbrook staff the opportunity to continue working at the Danny's Pizza Chicago location
The restaurant is also helping staff who can't make the commute to Chicago find new jobs at other area restaurants

It wasn’t quite Dean Smith and the four corners
but Downers Grove North slowed the pace of Tuesday’s Class 4A Benet Academy sectional semifinal against Bolingbrook just enough and upset the top-seeded Raiders 29-26 to advance to Friday night’s championship game against the winner of Wednesday’s Benet Academy-Waubonsie Valley matchup
The Trojans routinely went more than a minute without shooting throughout the contest
That kept the high-powered Bolingbrook offense on the defensive side of the ball
hit a 3-pointer from the left wing with 4:13 remaining to tie the game at 24
Neither team scored again until the 1:32 mark when Richtman
connected again from the left wing for a 27-24 lead
had a quick answer with a short jumper in the lane with 1:20 left to pull the Raiders (29-5) to within 27-26
Bolingbrook’s Trey Brost forced a turnover
The Raiders ran the clock down to 12 seconds before Thompson began a drive into the lane
and North’s Jack Crowley grabbed the rebound and was fouled with 5 seconds left
He made both free throws — the only free throws the Trojans shot all night — and Brady Pettigrew’s 3-point attempt at the buzzer missed
sending the sizable Downers North student section streaming onto the floor in celebration
“Our offense wasn’t much different than it has been all year,” Richtman said
“We want to make sure we have the best shot and not force any shots
we have been just going out there and having fun and staying loose
“We don’t worry about makes or misses as long as we are getting the best shot.”
Richtman had good shots all night as he went 4 of 6 from 3-point range
Fellow senior Crowley finished with nine points and Nolan Hurter added six points to offset a scoreless night from Bobby Grganto after the Wisconsin-Stevens Point commit went for 20 in Friday’s regional title win over West Aurora
which started as a 2-3 zone and morphed into man-to-man at times
and the kids executed very well,” Downers Grove North coach Jim Thomas said
“This was all about the seniors stepping up
We have 11 of them on the team this year and a lot of them sat behind a good group last year
They got their chance this year and have taken advantage
To win a game like this without Bobby scoring says a lot about the rest of the team
“I don’t think we talked about offense all week at practice
Bolingbrook is very physical on defense and very fast to rotate
It’s hard for us to even simulate that in practice
We were more concerned with slowing down their three studs [Thompson
Brady Pettigrew and Valparaiso commit JT Pettigrew]
Bolingbrook got a pair of deep 3-pointers from Thompson in the first quarter to move out to a 10-2 lead
but Richtman drained a 3-pointer at the buzzer to close it to 10-5
The Raiders opened the second with three free throws by Kendall Cutler and a 3-pointer by Brady Pettigrew to take a 16-5 lead
but North got a putback basket by Hurter and a steal and layup by Crowley to close to within 16-9 at halftime
The Trojans opened the third quarter with four straight points
getting a basket each by Hurter and Crowley
to make it 16-13 before Brady Pettigrew scored for Bolingbrook to make it 18-13
Crowley answered with a 3-pointer with 3:04 left in the third
but JT Pettigrew converted an old-fashioned three-point play to make it 21-16
A free throw by Brost put Bolingbrook ahead 22-16 before Richtman hit a 3-pointer just before the end of the quarter to make it 22-19 entering the fourth
A basket by Hurter with 7 minutes to play pulled North to within 22-21 before Thompson scored on a nifty baseline drive for a 24-21 Bolingbrook lead
“Give Downers Grove credit,” Bolingbrook coach Rob Brost said
We had our chances and got some good looks
We had chances when we were up six that would have put us up eight

to continue its opposition against the rate increase
IL — The Village of Bolingbrook has filed an appeal in the Third Judicial District Appellate Court challenging the Illinois American Water rate increase which was granted by the Illinois Commerce Commission last year
Illinois American Water provides water for most of Bolingbrook's residents
the Illinois Commerce Commission approved a $110 million rate hike for Illinois American Water
about 30 percent less than the $152.4 million increase the company originally proposed
according to a release from the commission
The decision also approved a 9.84 percent return on equity for the company
which was a reduction from the utility's requested 10.75 percent ROE
The Village said it argued against the rate increase in December
emphasizing that water is a basic necessity and vital resource no one should struggle to afford
Bolingbrook was the only local municipality to present oral arguments at the hearing
The Village said it is also working with State Senator Rachel Ventura
the Village needs your help in taking this issue to our state officials," the Village said in a release
"The ICC is made up of commissioners appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the State Senate
It is also the responsibility of the state legislators to pass the laws that the ICC must follow."

IL — The Costco in Bolingbrook will be getting more parking after an amendment to a special use permit was approved at Tuesday's Village Board meeting

2025 at 10:01 am CT.css-79elbk{position:relative;}The project calls for a rezoning
and several special use permits for mining/quarrying with blasting or other use of explosives
and clean construction or demolition debris fill operations
IL — A proposed rezoning and associated special use permits for a mining/quarrying operation in Wheatland Township is on the agenda for Thursday's Will County Board meeting
The Board had previously voted back in January to delay discussion and a vote on the quarry project
The project has been under discussion at various county committees since the fall
The land is currently zoned A-1 (agricultural) and needs to be rezoned to I-3 (industrial)
The property is located in Wheatland Township
at the southeast corner of Essington Road and 127th Street
although it is not in the Village of Bolingbrook
In September 2024, the Village filed an objection to the project
Bolingbrook Mayor Mary Alexander-Basta said the project could "severely impact the welfare
safety and the quality of life in the surrounding Village."
The property is also close to District 202's Liberty Elementary School
I strongly oppose the proposed quarry operation in Will County
This project poses a serious threat to the quality of life for our residents
particularly those living in close proximity to the site
and heavy truck traffic will not only disrupt daily life but also create long-term concerns for families in our community," she told Patch
Patch has also received several emails from area residents in recent days expressing concern for the project
Alexander-Basta said another concern is the safety risk to schools
"The proposed site is near educational institutions where children should be able to learn and play without the dangers of excessive truck traffic
The well-being of our residents—especially our youngest and most vulnerable—must come first," she said
She called on the Will County Board to listen to residents "and prioritize the health and safety of our communities and reject this proposal
The Village of Plainfield has also filed an objection to the project
the County Board will need a 3/4 super-majority to approve the zoning map amendment instead of a simple majority vote
District 202 has also submitted a letter of objection
The votes for the special use permits could still pass in a simple majority vote
In October, the Will County Planning and Zoning Commission denied the project. The matter then went to the Will County Land Use and Development Committee
and the committee decided to delay discussion until Jan
According to discussion at the land and development meeting
the project does call for surface mining and underground mining under Lily Cache Creek
County officials said during the January meeting that blasting of limestone would happen up to twice a week
The applicant has proposed a berm to the north and west of the property
as well as the northeast corner of the project to address some concerns
The committee approved the zoning map change
in a 3-2 vote; and the committee approved the special use permits for mining
for concrete and asphalt mixing and for the clean construction or demolition debris
Over 1,900 people have signed a Change.org petition against the quarry project
The petition cites concerns about the business owner

IL — A proposed rezoning and associated special use permits for a quarry operation in Wheatland Township was narrowly approved at Thursday's Will County Board meeting
The Board approved the proposal 12-10 on Thursday
The land is currently zoned A-1 (agricultural) and needed to be rezoned to I-3 (industrial)
and wants to expand operations to the adjacent property
Alexander-Basta told Patch she was "deeply disappointed" by the decision "to approve the quarry despite overwhelming opposition from our residents as well as the residents of Plainfield and the Plainfield School District."
"This decision disregards the voices of the community and raises serious concerns about environmental impact
safety and the quality of life in our neighborhoods
We will continue to explore every possible avenue to protect our residents and ensure their concerns are not ignored," she said
The Village of Plainfield also filed an objection to the project
Some of the plans for the quarry were changed after concerns from neighbors and discussion at previous levels of the county
The new plans eliminated the underground mining and asphalt portion of the project
the project still calls for blasting of limestone
During discussion at the county's land and development meeting in January
officials said that blasting of limestone would happen up to twice a week

BOLINGBROOK – Bolingbrook point guard Trey Brost sometimes has a problem that other point guards certainly would appreciate
The junior distributor might have too many options to choose from
That was on display during Wednesday’s first semifinal at the Class 4A Bolingbrook Regional where the host and top-seeded Raiders dismantled Naperville Central 75-33
The win advances Bolingbrook (29-4) into Friday night’s regional championship against Metea Valley (19-13). Metea Valley defeated Plainfield North 74-56 in the second semifinal of the night.
Bolingbrook wasted no time establishing the tempo the game would be played at, and that quick pace immediately caused problems for the Redhawks.
It took only 18 seconds for the Raiders to jump out to a 4-0 lead when Kendall Cutler was fouled while making a 3-pointer and just minutes before Bolingbrook’s advantage reached double digits.
Brost played a large part in engineering the offensive surge and admits that sometimes the dizzying array of offensive weapons the Raiders have can cause an issue, but a particularly good one.
“We’ve got a lot of pieces, and our coaches do a good job of helping us run the offense and giving us the freedom to play together,” Brost said. “It’s almost like good and bad, but you would rather have more than less. And it is really fun to try to get everyone involved.”
Everyone pretty much did get involved for the Raiders early on. Midway through the first quarter, all five Bolingbrook starters had scored at least two points. The Raiders found themselves up 25-8 after the first quarter and then scored the first 15 points of the second quarter to extend the lead to more than 30.
Naperville Central wouldn’t score in the second quarter for over six minutes until Alex Llabo stopped the drought with a 3-pointer. But those were the only points the Redhawks scored in the quarter as Bolingbrook led 40-11 at halftime.
“I thought we did a good job, when we share and play right we can be pretty good,” Bolingbrook coach Rob Brost said. “As everybody knows, we want to play fast and get out in transition, get out in space and share. That’s the way basketball should be played, in my opinion.”
The Raiders continued to do those things in the second half with a flurry of third-quarter offense from a multitude of sources. Davion Thompson led Bolingbrook with 24 points, Brady Pettigrew added 19 and JT Pettigrew had 10 before all of the Bolingbrook regulars sat during the running clock in the fourth quarter.
Naperville Central (8-21) got 17 points from Alex Llabo.
Metea Valley broke open a tight game with some spectacular second-quarter shooting and never really cooled off.
Tre Watkins led the surge for Metea with 10 of his team-high 22 points as the Mustangs extended a four-point lead after one quarter into a 11-point lead at the half (39-28).
Plainfield North tried to stay close, but despite the best efforts from Pierre Pointer (24 points) the Tigers struggled to keep the Metea advantage in single digits in the second half.

Bolingbrook’s Davion Thompson (3) shoots a three while Warren’s Jaxson Davis defends
High school basketball has entered a new era
Highly regarded freshmen make immediate impacts on varsity
and sophomores are so talented and poised that they’re occasionally the best players on the state’s top teams
it was rare — Derrick Rose and Jalen Brunson territory — for a sophomore to lead one of the state’s best teams
five teams in the area were led by freshman or sophomore stars: Oswego
Bolingbrook guard Davion Thompson took early success a step beyond even Rose or Brunson
The lefty scoring guard is the 2025 Sun-Times Player of the Year
He’s the first sophomore to earn the honor in the award’s 67-year history
Teenagers’ eyes glaze over at the mention of history
Learning about juniors who won Player of the Year (Quinn Buckner
Thompson’s concern is maintaining his level and holding off all his challengers the next few years
“My parents preach being humble and to keep working,” Thompson said
I have to stay dedicated and not get excited about all the noise around me.”
levelheaded demeanor stood out immediately as a freshman
and there were no growing pains adjusting to varsity basketball
“That came from playing so long on the travel circuit,” Davion’s dad
And he learned from playing quarterback that if he wants to win
Quarterbacks have to stay calm and observe what everyone is doing.”
Thompson was chased by all the Catholic League football powers but decided to stick with basketball in high school
but I just like basketball more,” Thompson said
and I liked traveling for [club basketball]
Thompson averaged 24 points and five rebounds
He had multiple games of more than 30 points and shot 58% on two-point shots
49% on three-pointers and 90% from the foul line
“His efficiency jumps off the page,” Bolingbrook coach Rob Brost said
“He has an ability to not force things and play within our system
I’ve coached some of the best players on the planet at USA Basketball
Davion exhibits the skill level of those players but is even more efficient.”
Most high school basketball phenoms have tunnel vision
The only hobby they cite is playing video games
“Anytime he gets some downtime and the weather is OK
He uses his little niece to put the worm on the hook.”

The Raiders lost to Downers Grove North 29-26 in the Class 4A sectional semifinals Tuesday
Bolingbrook began the season as the top-ranked team in the Super 25 and had state-championship dreams
The state’s two other elite sophomores — Kenwood’s Devin Cleveland and Warren’s Jaxson Davis — won sectional championships Friday
Cleveland finished second in this season’s Player of the Year vote
It takes more than just mega-talented sophomores for a youth movement to take over Chicago-area high school basketball
The emergence of the talented sophomores coincided with a downturn in talent in the senior and junior classes
Would Thompson and Cleveland have been able to fend off a highly successful senior heading to Duke for the Player of the Year award
Freshman Cole Kelly had the best season in Neuqua Valley school history this year
The best 15- and 16-year-olds have suddenly become dominant players at the varsity level

ExpandOpponents of the AZ Rock quarry expansion filled the public seating area at the Will County Board meeting on Thursday
The board voted 12-10 for the quarry proposal
which had been changed before the meeting to eliminate many features of a previous plan for the project
The approval allows AZ Hard Rock to expand its quarry located at Essington Road and 127th Street in Wheatland Township
The location is bordered by Plainfield and Bolingbrook as well several subdivisions
The expansion also brings the quarry closer to Liberty Elementary School in Plainfield Community School District 202
District 202 Superintendent Glenn Wood joined residents in speaking against the plan
“Are you voting for the economic benefit of a few or the health and safety of hundreds of children and thousands of residents?” Wood asked the board
County Board Member Frankie Pretzel, R-New Lenox, told residents at the meeting that he believed changes in the quarry plan
which included the elimination of underground mining and an asphalt plant
met many of the concerns previously raised by neighbors
“This by definition is a compromise whether you like it or not,” Pretzel said
Pretzel said changes in the plan will make the property “more aesthetically pleasing than it is today.”
Quarry opponents stand outside a packed overflow room to view proceedings at a Will County Board meeting on Thursday
when the main topic was a quarry expansion that faced intense residential opposition
His comments were met by rumbles from quarry opponents who eventually shouted Pretzel down before he completed his comments
The expanded quarry operations still include blasting
which neighbors said posed the prospect of fly rock and other issues that created hazards for the surrounding community
who talked about the potential hazards from fly rock
which is rock propelled off a quarry site during blasting
“The fact is there’s no 100% method to guarantee you 100% that you won’t have fly rock,” Martin said
Opponents brought school children and even preschool children to the County Board meeting as they tried to make a case that the quarry expansion posed a safety hazard
Children from Liberty Elementary and other schools in Plainfield Community School District 202 made an appearance at the Will County Board meeting on Thursday to help make the case that a proposed quarry expansion was not safe for the surrounding community on Thursday
Changes to the quarry plan include a 30-foot berm
nearly twice the size of the previously proposed berm
to create a buffer between the quarry and neighboring homes along with Liberty Elementary School
“We created a berm that is nearly five times the county standard,” said Gary Davidson
Davidson said AZ Rock removed 80% of the plans previously proposed for the site to address concerns voiced by neighbors
who said the plan still brings quarry operations closer to Liberty Elementary School and houses in the area
AZ Rock is one of five quarries that developed in the mid-20th century when the area was still rural and undeveloped
consultant from West Virginia specializing in quarry safety
talks about deaths linked to quarry blasting at the Will County Board meeting on Thursday
residential subdivisions and schools have been built around the quarries
creating the potential clash that developed in the past year as AZ Rock sought to expand
Plainfield Mayor John Argoudelis and others argued that the area has become predominantly residential
“The ultimate question is whether this is the best place to construct a new quarry,” Agroudelis said
The county planning staff also recommended against the quarry expansion
The only organized support for the expansion outside of AZ Rock came from Operating Engineers Local 150, a Joliet-based building trades union that carries significant weight in local politics.
The local represents workers at the quarry, and union representatives urged County Board members to back the expansion.
“Currently, there are 10 to 15 (union) members in this quarry,” Jeff Horne, vice president for Local 150 told the County Board. “These aren’t jobs, they are careers.”
IL — After news of closures of CosMc's locations in Texas
Bolingbrook Mayor Mary Alexander-Basta told Patch that the Bolingbrook location will continue to stay open
The "beverage-centric" concept from McDonald's first opened in December 2023 in Bolingbrook. The Bolingbrook location was the first to open in the United States and remains the only location in Illinois
with one in Bolingbrook and the other six in Texas
Mcdonald's announced that three of its CosMc's locations in Texas will close; however
the corporate giant is opening two other locations in the state
When the Bolingbrook location opened in 2023
customers from across the country flocked to the Illinois location
Customers would often wait hours for items from CosMc's
which features specialty lemonades and teas
McDonald's has shared that some of the best-sellers at CosMc's include Island Pick Me Up Punch
Churro Cold Brew Frappe and the Sour Energy Burst
the favorites are the savory hashbrown bites
"We have just scratched the surface about what we can learn about this growing category," McDonald's said in a news release
"The tests will continue for the foreseeable future as CosMc’s continues to grow – and we can’t wait to learn more..."

BOLINGBROOK, IL — Will County Board Member and DuPage Township Administrator Jacqueline Traynere was cited for failure to yield at a crosswalk after an incident involving her car and a pedestrian, according to Bolingbrook Police. Traynere's vehicle stuck a child on a bicycle
on March 11 to the intersection of Lily Cache and Lindsey lanes
Police said both Traynere and the child refused medical attention
and Traynere was cited for failure to yield
According to Edgar County Watchdogs
a police report stated that Traynere exited her vehicle to check on the child
She went to the Bolingbrook Police Department and reported the incident
Patch has requested a copy of the police report
Patch reached out to Traynere and spoke to her lawyer
Giamanco told Patch that the incident has been "taken dramatically out of context and is being used in a transparent attempt to score political points rather than for any legitimate purpose."
"One version I heard early on—from an elected official—was that the minor was 'run over' and that Ms
Traynere never stopped her vehicle; such statements are patently false and defamatory
we are limited in what we can say," Giamanco said
Traynere contests the single citation she received for allegedly failing to yield to a pedestrian
We look forward to resolving this matter in a court of law—not in the court of public opinion."
Traynere serves as the DuPage Township Administrator
She also has served on the Will County Board
She was elected the Democratic Leader for the Board in 2022
Traynere previously ran unsuccessfully for mayor of Bolingbrook in 2017 and 2021.
IL — The Village of Bolingbrook's advisory referendum asking residents about allowing video gambling licenses is projected to pass
15,269 people voted "yes" and 14,246 voted "no," according to unofficial results
The advisory question on the ballot read: Should the Village of Bolingbrook allow a limited number of video gambling licenses within the corporate boundaries of the Village
The Board approved putting the question on the ballot back in August
Mayor Mary Alexander-Basta said that since the pandemic
many restaurants are still financially distressed and video gambling could provide a revenue stream
"We want to know what the community says," Alexander-Basta said
Bolingbrook voters have previously turned down a question about video gaming machines
the Village does not allow video gaming in its boundaries
Bolingbrook prohibited video gaming in a 2012 ordinance
Bolingbrook is one of a few communities in the area that does not allow video gambling

ExpandBolingbrook's Trey Brost (0) shoots a jumper during their When Sides Collide Shootout basketball matchup between Warren and Bolingbrook
In the 2008 romantic comedy “27 Dresses,” Katherine Heigl had been a bridesmaid for 27 weddings
but is still searching for the man who will make her a bride
Some of members of the Bolingbrook boys basketball team weren’t alive when that movie came out, but the plot might sound familiar for the Raiders fanbase.
Head coach Rob Brost took over the team in 2007, finishing that season with a record of 18-9, but losing in the regional tournament. The Raiders advanced to sectionals the year after.
In the 2014-15 season, Brost and the Raiders made the state tournament for the first time in program history, but had to settle for third place. After missing the sectional tournament the year after, the Raiders advanced to state again. They wound up third, again.
They’ve advanced to the sectional tournament every season since then, including a fourth-place finish at state in the 2021-22 season. Bolingbrook has sent numerous players to college and finished highly ranked every year. The tradition of the program is solid.
“It’s a great culture in terms of winning and in terms of the school itself,” freshman Brady Pettigrew said. “I’m enjoying the run and getting to be a part of it.”
But like Katherine Heigl, the Raiders are still searching for their special ceremony.
This year, the Raiders have sure looked like a state-title contender. They’re 28-4 and just won their home regional over Metea Valley 87-58. They’ve got a Valparaiso commit in JT Pettigrew who just scored 32 points in that regional championship. They’ve got a top-25 recruit in the country in Davion Thompson, who scored 22, and one of the top recruits in Illinois in Brady Pettigrew, who put up 18.
To top it off, they have other key players as well. Trey Brost came up huge with nine points and three steals Friday. Beyond the big three, the depth of the Raiders is something to keep an eye on.
When Sides Collide Shootout. Warren at Bolingbrook Bolingbrook's JT Pettigrew (22) is fouled on a move under the basket. (Gary E Duncan Sr. for Shaw Local)
“A lot of people don’t realized the depth that we have,” Brady Pettigrew said. “There’s a lot of focus on the big three here, but we’ve got a great support team around us.”
Don’t forget about the coaching staff, either. Rob Brost is one of the most accomplished basketball coaches in Illinois.
“[The coaching staff] is great,” Thompson said. “They help us with everything we need, on and off the court. Family, basketball, they’re always there for us, so it’s great. We have a great staff.”
Now they have the tough task of facing their past. Last season, Bolingbrook made it further than any other team in the Herald-News coverage area, making the sectional finals where it lost to Downers Grove North, 69-52.
The Raiders' opponent in the 4A Benet Academy Sectional semifinals? Downers Grove North.
“[They present] a lot of challenges,” Rob Brost said. “They’re big, they’re physical, they’re very well-coached. They’re really, really good. Anytime you get a team that’s left this time of year, you know they’re good, and Downers Grove is that.”
Should the Raiders win, they’d face the winner of second-seeded Waubonsie Valley and third-seeded Benet Academy. The winner of that game faces the winner of the Collinsville Sectional (Quincy, Alton, Normal or Rock Island) in the supersectional for a chance to go to state.
Before any of that, however, Bolingbrook has to get past Downers Grove North. That’s the task the Raiders are focused on right now and the only thing they’ll worry about until that game is over.
“Obviously, DGN is a very fundamentally sound team,” JT Pettigrew said. “They play really good basketball, and they’re the team that knocked us out last year. We just have to stay locked in, play good defense and offense.”
and that means the Village of Bolingbrook is planning its annual Arbor Day celebration on April 26
the event kicks off with a tree planting ceremony at 10 a.m
502 Golden Star Drive; followed by a festival in front of Town Center from 11 a.m
The festival will feature free hot dogs and water (while supplies last)
tree giveaways and a community shred event
There is also an Arbor Day coloring contest
which is limited to Bolingbrook residents only
You can submit your coloring to Annerino Community Center
201 Recreation Drive; Fountaindale Library
Winners will be asked to participate in the tree planting on April 26

A Bolingbrook woman was sentenced to three years in prison for stealing almost $2.5 million from taxpayers by fraudulently billing Medicaid-funded companies for services she did not provide
LaTeena Smith, 38, was the owner of a clinic called Power Positive Youth Development in Bolingbrook, according to Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul’s office
Smith submitted “fraudulent bills for psychotherapy services” that she did not provide to recipients of “Medicaid-managed care,” Raoul’s office said
Smith billed Molina Healthcare for more than $978,000 and Meridian Health for more than $1.5 million
The companies provide services sponsored by Medicaid
a government program that provides health coverage for people of low income
On Wednesday, DuPage County Judge Mia McPherson sentenced Smith to three years in prison
Smith was ordered to pay more than $2.2 million in restitution
Raoul said Smith’s sentence should “send a clear message that anyone who defrauds Illinois’ Medicaid program will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
The investigation of Smith was conducted by Raoul’s office and Illinois State Police
The investigation also was conducted by inspector general offices with the U.S
Department of Health and Human Services and the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services
Department of Health and Human Services will continue to work with law enforcement to ensure “vital taxpayer dollars are used lawfully” and not for “illegitimate financial gain,” said Mario Pinto
“This provider took millions of dollars from taxpayers by billing Medicaid programs for services that were not rendered to her patients,” Pinto said of Smith
