most of the charges brought against people who joined large Palestinian solidarity protests at Dartmouth College and the University of New Hampshire have been dropped
The demonstrations were part of a wave of activism around the country in response to the war in Gaza
drew an intense police response — then-Gov
Chris Sununu sent state troopers to both campuses
New reporting from the Concord Monitor casts doubt on police accounts about what happened at UNH that night, where roughly a dozen people were arrested. (Most of those charges were dropped within months.)
Prosecutors recently dropped the final two pending cases against Hanover residents Julianne Borger and Christian Harris
on the condition that they stay off campus and agree to maintain good behavior
Both Borger and Harris grew up in the Upper Valley
said they initially showed up last May 1 for a May Day rally but stuck around to support student demonstrations
when they realized a protest for Palestine was happening
after students decided to erect tents on the campus lawn
Borger said they were concerned to see the Dartmouth Green — an area they have long known as a community gathering space — filling up with officers bearing shields
We weren't doing anything hateful,” Borger said
“I think that that's sort of like a big takeaway for me
grew up in Hanover and has deep ties to Dartmouth; his father worked there
He felt relief that the charges were dropped
but the intensity of events last May is still shocking to him
“There's still just a ton of frustration around that night
given the kind of current state of affairs with this current administration
but I think it was also more indicative of things to come and I think that's really been kind of the tragedy of it all.”
Borger and Harris both say they currently feel secure in their ability to protest without serious consequences
they have been concerned about the future of protesting in America
especially for students and the international community on college campuses
They both plan to continue to support Dartmouth students who are speaking out on campus
Outside of their own grievances and legal battles
Harris said he feels that the college created a kind of manufactured consent to discourage more protests
“I think [Dartmouth] paved the way for what we're currently seeing with this current administration
rounding up people and forgoing due process
forgoing the laws that are there to protect the rights that we do have,” Harris said
“I think the actions of Dartmouth really laid the groundwork for people to allow this to occur and you know we're seeing push back now
It's just unfortunate that it might be too little too late for a lot of folks.”

The Borger community and surrounding area has rallied in support after last week's accident in a school drop-off zone took the life of a young student — raising funds
offering counseling and prayers and wearing pink in solidarity of her family
An online fundraiser supporting the family of an 8-year-old Borger girl who died in the tragic drop-off accident at Gateway Elementary School has surpassed $80,600, according to the campaign’s GoFundMe page
More than 1,400 donations had been made as of Wednesday afternoon
Other collections were taken at area games
and an account was also set up at Pantex Federal Credit Union in the girl's name

“They have continued to fine-tune the project and it has grown just a little bit as the numbers and feasibilities start to come in,” said Garrett Spradling
“Where does this project currently stand?”
“So currently we have been in the design phase and so now we're moving from the design phase into pre-construction,” said Amy Fesser
It’s at the corner of Prospect Drive and Fairlanes Blvd where Borger Enterprise Park has more than 100 acres for this project
“I think it’s important to realize that 828’s master planning the sight there is a difference between what they will develop out and partner with other developers
and retail likely will be built by other third-party investors or by local investors,” said Spradling
“What is the city (Borger) doing to make sure everything is on the up and up because a lot of people still can’t fathom something like this is coming to Borger?”
“This is not going to be a government-owned facility were not taking on any debt to operate the facility were not doing any income guarantees this is truly a private development,” said Spradling
"I was told that you asked the council for some additional funding and what’s that for?”
we just asked for another $100,000 payment which is refundable as we move through different phases of this project,” said Fesser
“Economic development is about risk aversion and the government taking on a little bit of that risk to help bring in something that wouldn’t come in on its goal
but we also have the main goal of protecting our taxpayers,” said Spradling
Our goal is to limit the risk and then maximize the potential benefit to our community.”
As for a timeline for this $400 million investment
the project is expected to be completed and open for the public to enjoy sometime in the year 2030
Smith Bird Sanctuary has been at Huber Park in Borger providing a safe environment for birds
Texas (KVII) — For more than 30 years the Frank J
The city recently announced they had no choice but to close the bird sanctuary due to a lack of volunteers or anyone willing to keep up the facility so now the city is seeking input from citizens to try and figure out what would be best to put in its place going forward
“There may be some ideas that aren’t listed in the survey so we're accepting any type of ideas and feedback just in general but what the survey will do is kind of differentiate what citizens would like to see there,” said Deidra Thomas
community engagement coordinator for the City of Borger
City leaders tell ABC 7 News this is a quality-of-life issue
and they can secure the funding that’s why they need input from citizens to decide what to build and have in the park
“There are grants and we have city funding so all of this will be into our Community Investment Program Plan so this is not going to increase taxes,” said Garrett Spradling
“We don’t plan to increase debt for this this is trying to find something we can do within our current means like we’ve done with all of our current projects to support our current tax rate without impacting that.”
“We want their feedback and that will help determine the next steps in terms of our budgeting process and finding funding via grants and whatever else it may be to actually have this space come to light,” said Thomas
to go online and complete a survey providing input as to what they think would be the best thing to have in place of a bird sanctuary
Spradling said feedback is important so it can help the city come up with a plan and offer something people agree on
The remaining birds that were still living in the Frank J
Smith Sanctuary were transported to a sanctuary in Spearman and to another location in Hutchinson County
TX — Evacuation orders were lifted overnight
Hwy 136 between Roosevelt Street and the Fairlanes intersection will remain closed at this time
You will continue to see smoke in the area. The Double S Fire
was 500 acres and 50-percent contained as of 10:50 a.m
there were more than 6,200 power outages in Hutchinson County
Evacuations have been ordered in Borger because of a wildfire west of the city
It started in the area of 1559 and Rock Creek
Those who live north of 3rd Street and west of Cedar Street
and Golf Course additions should evacuate to locations east of Cedar Street(Hwy 207)
The Municipal Court Building at 611 Weatherly is open with a backup generator

BORGER, Texas (KVII) — In the four years since the January 6th U.S. Capitol riot, more than half of the over 1,200 individuals charged have been sentenced, including a family of five from Borger
demonstrating or picketing in a Capitol building
Initially identified as an "unknown male" in the indictment
Guoppo was later identified by two former co-workers at Plains Regional Medical Center
The FBI continues its efforts to identify dozens of suspects captured in hundreds of videos from the Capitol
Identifying problems that continue to plague the Texas Panhandle and coming up with viable solutions is something the leaders of American Legion Post 671 in Borger are working on
Texas (KVII) — Identifying problems that continue to plague the Texas Panhandle and coming up with viable solutions is something the leaders of American Legion Post 671 in Borger are working on
Since the 1970s American Legion Post 671 has operated out of a building in Borger adjacent to the Dome
They now have the plan to move to Carbon Road right near the end of Borger city limits where they will build on 47 acres of land and construct what they're calling a veteran’s community
consisting of an RV Park and tiny homes for the homeless veterans and for victims of wildland fires
“The motels fill up instantly from people coming in to help plus the people who are displaced so having a place where people can immediately go is more valuable than anything else we got right now,” said Kevin Black
vice commander of American Legion Post 671
“Trailer park would be a vital asset for people who are fire victims who need a place to stay,” said Stan Setliff
“The smaller shipping container homes that we can build where people can stand in will help that also.”
Besides searching for grants the American Legion Post 671 has a couple of plans in place in order to keep their veteran’s community up and running
“We bring in a new RV Park and a new building and all the things that go with that once we get that going,” said Black
“We have some events scheduled for up on top of the hill that we're looking at doing as well.”
“The fires and tornadoes and what not that rip through this part of the country and leave people sitting with nowhere to go we have good churches and what not that do open up their doors they run out of room quick,” said Setliff
American Legion Post 671 is hoping to have a groundbreaking sometime later this year and would like to have their veteran community up and running sometime in 2026
The new commander of American Legion Post 671 is meeting with the city to iron out details for the move and working on a plan as to what they can do with the current building

The new control room and associated facilities replace older technology and working areas in a way that promotes sharing knowledge, data and new ideas across teams. This not only improves safety, reliability and efficiency of the plant, it makes for a more operator-friendly environment in day-to-day work.
“The control room is really the heart of our plant,” says JR Gray, Production Manager for Ammonia & Urea. “We saw the need for an improvement, and by working together, we made sure that no stone was left unturned in creating a great work environment for our team.”
In addition, a new training simulator was built within the same facility, so operators can learn how the high-tech system works through hands-on experience.
Rounding out the list of improvements is a new conference room, permitting room, kitchen and locker rooms, making it a true one-stop shop.
