Bountiful head coach Sarah Chism “It is the type of game that I really like to see at a Region 5 match “I know everybody kind of overlooks Region 5 but we’re tough and both teams were super scrappy We knew this was going to be a fight at the end and we came ready for it Bountiful got off to a fast start in the opening set and never looked back in taking the opening frame with relative ease it was imperative to get off to a fast start knowing the sort of challenges that Viewmont would present Viewmont proceeded to win the next two sets though giving the Vikings plenty of momentum and confidence as the match wore on Instead of players getting down on themselves and succumbing to whatever pressure they may have been feeling Chism saw it more as a growing and learning opportunity for her side “I think we looked at it instead of getting down on ourselves because we were losing we were learning and kind of figured them out and just trying to figure out where we could be most successful,” Chism said Bountiful sits atop Region 5 with an 11-0 record and a 15-4 mark overall Chism knows that being a part of tight matches — and winning them — will only benefit her team as it gets ready to hopefully have a deep postseason run “The whole time during the game I was thinking how these are the kind of matches that you want to have at this point in the season,” she said For both teams to be able to fight and battle like that at this point in the season is big Everybody is starting to flow and it’s really a confidence builder moving into the last week of the regular season and heading into the postseason.” thousands of Utah residents were jolted awake by an unexpected earthquake that registered a magnitude of 3.9 on the Richter scale According to confirmation by the US Geological Survey (USGS) and the University of Utah Seismograph Stations (UUSS) Its epicentre was pinpointed roughly 12 miles southeast of Strawberry Reservoir and 19 miles east of Provo an area known for occasional minor seismic activity The shaking was felt across a significant stretch of the Wasatch Front a metropolitan corridor that includes towns and cities such as Heber over 1,500 people had submitted 'Did You Feel It?' reports to the USGS website indicating the tremor's widespread reach despite its moderate strength Although no significant damage or injuries were reported the quake stands out as one of the strongest in the region in recent years the area surrounding the epicentre has experienced at least 58 earthquakes of magnitude 2.0 or higher since 1981 The previous most notable event occurred in June 2021 when a magnitude 3.6 quake was recorded within 15 miles of Thursday's epicentre Seismologists note that the Intermountain West region making it susceptible to both minor and more destructive seismic activity The 3.9-magnitude quake may be considered minor on the scale but its reach and the strong responses from residents show how even moderate quakes can cause alarm especially when they occur during sleeping hours and are accompanied by audible rumbling and movement Reactions from residents flooded social media within minutes of the event with many describing being suddenly awakened by rumbling floors 'I live in Orem and felt it,' Mandie Heinze wrote on Facebook My whole house was shaking the windows were rattling I thought someone was under my bed shaking it.' another resident said they initially mistook the quake for a strong wind gust before feeling the full movement of the house Others likened the shaking to past seismic events such as the aftershocks following the 2020 5.7-magnitude earthquake near Salt Lake City 'This one shook for a while and it was noisy,' said a resident from West Jordan Such community responses highlight both the psychological impact and the geographical breadth of the quake's effect Even in areas where the quake was not severe residents reported hearing loud thuds or experiencing pets reacting to the vibrations— an well-known early sign of tremor activity Though officials have confirmed that there were no reports of casualties or property damage the earthquake has once again brought to light the importance of earthquake readiness in Utah home to over 80% of the state's population sits along the Wasatch Fault— a major geological fault line capable of producing even stronger earthquakes experts urge residents not to dismiss minor quakes as isolated incidents but to see them as a warning to stay prepared a spokesperson from the Utah Department of Public Safety advises households to keep 'emergency kits and establish communication plans.' While Thursday's quake may not have caused any immediate harm its widespread impact serves as a reminder that seismic awareness and readiness remain crucial in Utah's ongoing efforts to mitigate future earthquake risks Please select what you would like included for printing: Copy the text below and then paste that into your favorite email application Mindy was the daughter of Sheron Mellor Larsen and Craig MaCoy Larsen where she developed a love for swimming and lifeguarding pursuits that she continued to enjoy well beyond her school years.  Mindy’s life was enriched by the love and companionship of her husband The two met through his sister and were married on December 19 they raised three beautiful children: Eric (Isabell) Mindy was also excitedly anticipating the arrival of her first grandchild Mindy was an exceptional nurse who dedicated the last 10 years of her career to Biolife in Layton Her positive influence on those around her was undeniable With her kind heart and compassionate spirit Mindy earned the unwavering loyalty of her friends In addition to her devotion to her family and friends Her zest for life extended to her professional endeavors as well they built a business teaching CPR classes across the Wasatch Front Mindy and Frank recently embraced the joy of nature purchasing a side-by-side to explore the mountains together Her job as a nurse and finding new ways to make memories with her family were also some of the things that brought her happiness Mindy’s legacy will live on through her family She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.  There will be a viewing held at Lindquist’s Bountiful Mortuary The funeral service will follow on Friday from 2-3pm Mindy will then be laid to rest at Lakeview Memorial Estates  A luncheon will be provided at the church located at 650 E ORDER VIDEOS Enter your phone number above to have directions sent via text This site is protected by reCAPTCHA and the Google Privacy Policy and Terms of Service apply Service map data © OpenStreetMap contributors The Bountiful Finds Gift Guide can help you do just that spotlighting homegrown products sourced directly from local California farms Aubrey Aquino with the California Farm Bureau spoke with RFD-TV’s Suzanne Alexander on what their gift guide features Shop Now All Rights Reserved. neighborhood in Bountiful avoided disaster when a potentially deadly gas leak was discovered The odor of natural gas can dissipate as it moves through the ground That was the case for homeowner Karyn Baxter who smelled something unusual in her basement but said it didn’t smell like gas and didn’t think it was dangerous and there were a bunch of firemen standing there,” Baxter said It happened on the Friday before Thanksgiving a mailman had smelled gas near her mailbox and called 911 Firefighters arrived and began testing for a leak They found a dangerously high concentration of gas in a downstairs storage closet South Davis Metro Fire Captain Dallas Andreen was on the scene and ended up evacuated nine homes on the street “It made the hair on our necks stand up,” Andreen said “It made all of us kind of stand back and realize we have a pretty bad situation on our hands.” The incident brought back memories of a recent home explosion in South Jordan which firefighters feared could have happened here as well The source of the gas was traced to a leak underground outside the home The mailman caught just enough of the odor to make a life-saving call and all of my family is alive because he did something about it,” Baxter said Officials remind everyone: if you smell gas GAME NIGHT LIVE 2:26 PM | Updated: 2:32 pm Bountiful’s Siaki Fekitoa runs with the ball as Brighton’s Ryan The farmer then proceeds to cut the flowers off his plant pointing out that it’s not yet ready to produce fruit “You’re going to get a much larger harvest better yield and a healthier plant in the long-run.” This post garnered over 38k views and over 2,000 comments with many tomato-growing fans expressing their appreciation for the farmer’s “awesome advice” “How big is big enough to let them produce fruit?” “I’d say for tomatoes; 16-18 inches” In addition, pruning the plant regularly with a pair of the best pruning shears can ensure overall plant health and growth This is because lower branches and leaves can easily trap fungus and bacteria which may splash onto the plant surfaces when it rains It’s also important to encourage the tomato plant to put its energy into the most useful directions Just be sure not to make these 7 mistakes when growing your own tomatoes. SALT LAKE CITY — Chris Solomona boiled it down to the fourth quarter Roy’s third-year head coach and 25 hopeful seniors reached 5A’s final exam as the No led by Siaki Fekitoa’s 255 rushing yards and four touchdowns pushing past the Royals late for a 42-35 victory in the state championship Thursday at Rice-Eccles Stadium Roy (12-2) seemingly had an answer for everything The Royals rebounded from a scoreless first quarter claimed a 21-14 halftime lead and tied the contest twice — first on an onside kick touchdown and again on the ground with 4:37 remaining — in the second half the Redhawks (13-1) had just enough gas in the tank at the right time Bountiful represents both of Roy’s losses this season once during the regular season and again in season-ending fashion Thursday a program making its fourth all-time championship appearance and seeking its second state title in 60 years Roy’s lone state football championship rests in 1981 under coach Ernie Jacklin Bountiful will soon hang its first banner since 2003 2 touchdowns) and Dru Gardner (15 completions with senior speedster Robert Young adding 75 receiving yards and another touchdown on the ground Roy’s opening pair of drives were far from the mouth punch Timpview received in the semifinal round the Royals opened the game with a statement scoring drive; Thursday didn’t share such a confident tone Senior Kahekili Elenke (24 yards) lost control of a would-be 40-yard touchdown reception on Roy’s opening drive resulting in a missed 55-yard attempt by senior Colby Frokjer who’d nailed two field goals from 50-plus range a week ago Bountiful’s quarterback-tailback duo of Emerson Geilman and Fekitoa found a rhythm from the first snap leading the Redhawks down the field for a 5-yard Fekitoa touchdown Gardner struggled to complete second and third-down passes on the subsequent drive finding a lane to Geilman for a fourth-down sack and loss of 2 yards produced a much-needed stop for the Royals late in the first quarter Gardner grooved the Royals into Bountiful territory with two first-down passes to junior Zay Morris (54 yards); Young opened the second quarter twisting his way into the red zone Cella delivered a 14-yard touchdown answer with 9:47 to go in the second quarter but Bountiful quickly regrouped behind Geilman and Fekitoa the Redhawks evaded a questionable holding penalty ultimately picked up by the officials and validating a 24-yard Geilman touchdown scramble reclaiming a 14-7 lead with just under six minutes remaining in the half “(Fekitoa) and (Geilman) are both insanely good They’re sound all around just like we are.” Cella added his second touchdown of the day on the following drive with 2:47 remaining in the half Roy capitalized on a lengthy Bountiful field goal attempt when senior Cade Draper blocked Landon Zayas’ kick for a fourth-down turnover Roy burned two timeouts during the final 1:07 of the half with Gardner managing a 6-yard touchdown pass to Young with just 10 seconds left Senior Hunter Webb sprinkled on some extra momentum heading into the locker room with a clock-expiring sack near midfield “We told the boys going into halftime to leave it all out there,” Solomona said “I can’t thank them enough for what they did today … We just couldn’t find a way to stop their run down the stretch.” was redeemed with a Young fumble forced by Joshua Liljenquist and recovered by Manu Tia near the Redhawks 40-yard line but pinned Roy deep and forced the Royals to punt it right back on fourth-and-19 The Redhawks continued chewing the third-quarter clock on their third drive resulting in an 11-yard Fekitoa touchdown run Roy grinded its way into field goal range after the score with roughly two minutes left in the third quarter Geilman and Bountiful’s offense kept cooking after Roy’s missed opportunity marching down the field and opening the fourth quarter with a 17-yard touchdown catch by Connor Clark turning the Redhawks’ 21-14 halftime deficit into a 28-21 lead with Zayas’ onside attempt floating into the hands of junior Ryker Cordero who hauled in the near-instant answer for the Royals by racing 48 yards to paydirt “Big-time players make big-time plays in big-time situations,” Gardner said Bountiful picked itself right back up after the blown kickoff and charged back into Royals territory on two large rushes by Geilman and Fekitoa the latter who punched in an 8-yard touchdown run to give the Redhawks back their one-score advantage with eight minutes to go Roy’s offense returned with some added pace A first-down catch by senior Rhett Slater (46 yards) played right into that theme setting the Royals up near the Bountiful 25-yard line Offensive pass interference called against Morris retracted the junior wideout’s would-be touchdown catch and healed Gardner’s gutsy 15-yard dash into the end zone on third-and-9 The score left 4:37 remaining with a 35-35 knot — just enough time for the Redhawks to turn on Fekitoa’s jets for one final scoring drive decisively marching and leaving just 19 seconds remaining to take a 42-35 lead Gardner completed three first-down passes on the game’s final drive including a deep toss to Frokjer inside Bountiful’s 10 as the clock expired Gardner shared the near-exact feeling the Royals endured a decade ago “We’re hoping that the community remembers this team specifically just like we do that 2014 team,” Gardner said “We know that we’re Roy built … we don’t get any transfers I think historically we’ve lost more guys than we’ve gained and that’s what makes this team so special.” 94 teams have lost in the championship game and made it back to the finals the following year redeeming last year’s 23-15 loss to Timpview 3:59 – Bountiful touchdown: Fekitoa Bountiful are trying to figure out how to pay for a massive increase in their HOA fees Residents at Orchard Corners Condominiums received a notice earlier this month from their homeowner association informing them that their monthly fees could soon rise to more than $800 which is largely due to an increase in insurance costs Douglas and Emily Horne were not happy to get that news They bought their condo almost four years ago and like the community spelled out a bleak picture of how high those fees could jump and a significant increase in insurance—from $17,000 to $108,000—have created financial challenges that require immediate attention,” the HOA notice stated The old insurance policy for Orchard Corners Condominiums was recently canceled Neighbors said it happened after one of the units caught fire and needed repairs “I do think it is pretty ridiculous that we all have to pay for that one incident,” said Kelsey Hunziker But, Utah law requires condo associations to maintain property insurance That’s more than two-thirds (of) my mortgage payment.” the HOA board told homeowners it is proposing a smaller 17% monthly increase in fees homeowners would also have to pay a lump sum of $3,000 “If this special assessment is not approved monthly assessments may need to rise significantly to cover these costs,” the HOA notice stated said he and his family have saved up nearly $3,000 But they don’t want to spend it on the HOA and so that was supposed to go towards her getting born,” Barnett said KSL TV reached out to the HOA for comment on this situation This news is coming right before the holidays Hunziker called it “horrible timing” as she just had to cover a major veterinary bill for her cat “I don’t have much of my savings left right now,” she said the Hornes worry about making ends meet right now – and what this means for the future They have a two-bedroom condo but want to have more children “It’s going to be really difficult for us to move when the listing’s going to say that we have an $800 HOA,” Emily Horne said there’s no way we’re ever going to be able to ever move out of here.” The Horne family at the Orchard Corners Condominiums in Bountiful Follow came into enemy territory in Bountiful and stole Region 5 right out from under the Redhawks Bountiful did what it could to return the favor The Redhawks stormed back from a 28-14 first half deficit going on a 28-7 scoring run the rest of the way and stuffed the Royals’ final play at the 1-yard line to clinch a thrilling 42-35 victory “Incredible,” Bountiful coach Jason Freckleton said There’s a lot of trust from players to coaches Our defensive coaches work their tails off and never give up…The kids responded The win not only shattered Roy’s perfect 8-0 record this season but it also forced a tie atop the Region 5 standings putting Bountiful in position to secure at least a share of the region title with a win over Woods Cross next Thursday “That was important to us,” Freckleton said “They got after us last year…they’re a well-coached team but we certainly wanted to come in here and get that opportunity “This is the kind of stuff you dream about to come in here and to play a meaningful game this late in the season Quarterback Emerson Geilman accounted for all six of Bountiful’s touchdowns throwing for four and running for two while leading the offense to a turnover-free performance typically known under Freckleton for their strong defensive identity have now eclipsed 40 points in three straight games the credit belongs to our offensive line for just working their tails off the whole game and our defense for making two huge stops at the end,” Geilman said “I’m just so proud of all my teammates and I love them so much.” It was a contest of chaos from beginning to end but no sequence was more mind-melting than the final minute of the first half Geilman led the offense down to the goal line where he finally outstretched the ball over his own line on 4th-and-inches to convert the TD with 49 seconds before halftime The Redhawk defense forced a 3-and-out with about 14 seconds left and a run by Siaki Fekitoa was downed just in time for Freckleton to call timeout with just a tenth of a second remaining who in turn lateraled to junior Zeke Murdock and Murdock beat a confounded Roy defense to score a shocking game-tying touchdown at the end of regulation “That was our first time running that [in a game],” Fekitoa said The two teams combined for 56 points in the first half alone Roy’s first offensive snap was a double pass as do-everything athlete Robert Young connected with receiver Zay Morris for a 35-yard score Young had all five of Roy’s TDs and did it in every possible way catching one and returning one on a kickoff The kickoff return TD for 98 yards is Young’s third of the year What Bountiful truly excelled at in the matchup was coercing the senior-heavy and talent-rich Royals into making a plethora of mistakes by forcing them into unfamiliar situations Kicker Landon Zayas squibbed two kickoffs in the second half and the normally fearsome Roy return unit fumbled both of them back to the Redhawks After Roy got back ahead in the third quarter with a 34-yard TD run from Young Bountiful tied it back up on a 13-yard TD pass from Geilman to Fekitoa thanks to that second fumbled kickoff return Geilman ran in his sixth TD for 26 yards to give the Redhawks their first lead of the game early in the fourth quarter Bountiful had to still contend with a formidable offense but its first break came on an interception off a tipped pass by Gardner midway through the final quarter Roy managed to force a 3-and-out by Geilman and Co. so it was up to Freckleton’s defense to get the job done Gardner completed a big pass on third down to Young to get into scoring range Roy was on Bountiful’s 1-yard line with seconds remaining and no timeouts looked for his options and then charged at the end zone only to be met and upended for a loss by a host of Redhawks and red and silver helmets stormed the field “Our guys were ready to step up and make plays and that’s the team element that we preach Roy can still defend a portion of its status as the reigning Region 5 champions with a win over Northridge on the road next Wednesday after a short week of practice Bountiful’s final game against Woods Cross will be at home Bountiful overcame a dreadful second quarter on Wednesday night to seize control of the Region 5 race After enduring a stretch in which it was outscored by 15 points in the second quarter the Redhawks regrouped in the second half to inch past rival Viewmont for the 58-56 victory The win gives Bountiful a two-game cushion atop the Region 5 standings over Viewmont and Woods Cross with five games remaining before the state tournament but we needed that kind of game because that’s what’s gonna happen in the state tournament Ugly wins are sometimes needed,” said Bountiful coach Gus Sopena Bryson Heath led the way for Bountiful with 24 points with Emerson Geilman chipping in with 13 points and six rebounds Viewmont’s Drezdon Jensen led his team in the loss with 20 points Bentley Moore only scored three points for the Redhawks but his 3-pointer in the final seconds of the second quarter was one of the biggest buckets of the game After dominating the first quarter and grabbing a 16-9 lead the Redhawks couldn’t get anything going offensively in the second quarter as Viewmont went on a 20-5 run to build a 29-21 lead Moore’s corner 3-pointer stopped the bleeding and gave Bountiful a sliver of momentum heading into the locker room he comes in and plays with so much energy and enthusiasm,” Sopena said adding that Bentley has been challenged and empowered to shoot the ball when open Bountiful built on the momentum that bucket created outscoring Viewmont 18-7 in the first six minutes of the third Charlie Smith and Davey Howe each drained 3-pointers during the stretch Heath’s two free throws at the 1:46 mark stretched Bountiful’s lead to 44-36 The Redhawks had a couple possessions to possible push the lead to double digits Viewmont responded with a 5-0 to end the quarter as Lloyd Williamson banked in a 3-pointer at the buzzer cutting the lead to 44-41 The game stayed tight throughout the fourth quarter but Emerson Geilman gave Bountiful some breathing room with 2:50 remaining on a 3-pointer pushing the lead to 56-50 “He hit two big 3s in the second half that were really huge and it’s just good to see him shoot with confidence,” said Sopena Over the next two minutes Bountiful went scoreless as Viewmont cut the lead to 56-53 with 36 seconds remaining The Redhawks attacked the basket on its ensuing possessions to regain the two-possession lead on a layup from Charlie Smith Viewmont’s Jakob Jeppesen drained a 3-pointer with 2.5 seconds remaining to cut the lead to 58-56 but its offense didn’t touch the ball again as Bountiful inbounded the ball the length of the floor to seal the win Sopena thought one of the biggest keys to the game was the way his team defended Jensen After leading the Vikings with 12 points in the first half the Redhawks were determined to make things more difficult in the second half as he finished with only eight points we decided to play a little tighter on Drez he’s very shifty and we decided to go a little more physical with him,” said Sopena After its Cinderella run to the state championship game last year there were some doubts if Bountiful could do it again The Redhawks’ worries subsided after a convincing 24-8 win over Brighton in Friday’s 5A semifinal It was the 12th ever meeting between the Bengals and Redhawks and it’s Bountiful’s first win over Brighton since a 4A quarterfinal game in 1981 “This is a special team,” said Bountiful head coach Jason Freckleton “Last year you make it and that was a special run but when it ends and you miss out on winning it ‘Are we ever going to have this chance again?’ and they did a great job of not getting ahead of themselves and now we’re here and now we are going to go play for it again.” Bountiful wasted no time Friday jumping out to a 7-0 lead after Siaki Fekitoa found the end zone on the Redhawks’ first scoring drive Brighton entered the semifinal with its third-string quarterback and relied on its strong defense to carry it through the semifinal but the early offensive breakthrough made things tough on the Bengals “They weren’t going to come and give it to us just because they’re on their third-string guy,” said Freckleton gave their guys opportunities and they’ve won close games all year long Brighton’s defense held Bountiful out of the end zone again until late in the second quarter when Redhawks quarterback Emerson Geilman broke away for a 22-yard touchdown run to make the score 14-0 Geilman was a strong ground option for Bountiful throughout Friday’s game and ended it with 144 yards on 16 runs “Brighton has a very good defense,” Geilman said “They’ve got a lot of good athletes and they play very fundamentally sound When I was watching film I saw they covered well but my (offensive) line gave me great time “That’s what makes our offense so dynamic — you can take away one thing Brighton had a chance to score before halftime but a touchdown run was called back on a holding call and a 32-yard field goal attempt at the end of the half was no good Brighton’s defense didn’t make things easy for the Bountiful offense and gave itself a fighting chance but the Bengals offense struggled to get anything going In the third quarter, Bountiful’s Brock McSwain returned a punt for 62 yards and a touchdown for the 21-0 lead With how much Brighton’s offense struggled it effectively was the dagger for the Bengals The shutout was narrowly avoided as Mason Haertel found the only touchdown of the night for Brighton with two minutes left in the game Bountiful has a chance to win its first state championship since 2003 Bountiful beat Roy 42-35 earlier this season “It’s fun to play a region team in the state final and they’re a good team,” Freckleton said “We’ll get ready for them and we need to go 1-0 this week Utah — A juvenile has been taken into custody after allegedly kidnapping a 12-year-old Bountiful girl early Sunday According to the Bountiful Police Department family members of SCHRAGE, KSL TV All Thomas Coppin gets on his home phone is a message on its screen saying “I haven’t had a dial tone since Aug Five months of people not getting a hold of him “They get a message that the phone box is full,” Coppin said of the automated message every caller receives Thomas Coppin says he’s been without landline service since August 2024 Coppin says one service tech did check his line when it first went down “He said it was out his scope to repair,” said Coppin He says he counts 17 appointments made by CenturyLink and 17 appointments broken by CenturyLink He argues it’s more reliable in emergencies and has clearer call quality “That’s important when you’re hard of hearing,” Coppin said the next appointment Coppin made was with me I reported on phone companies across the country moving to abandon the old copper wire tech of landlines Consumer advocates worry that will leave behind folks who do not want or cannot afford cell phones along with people in rural areas where cell phone reception can be bad But the response the KSL Investigators got back from the owner of the CenturyLink brand It was back online in two days’ time A spokesperson blamed the delay here on “glitches in their scheduling tool” and “a neighbor’s unwillingness to allow them access.” “I want a landline with a clear dial tone,” Coppin told us he got his home phone back – clear dial tone and all A 2022 survey by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found less than 30% of adults have a landline Compare that to 2004 when more than 90% were still using a home phone Gus Sopena had a special plan to prepare for the Springville Red Devils and their 6-foot-10 center Bountiful’s second-year coach invited a couple of his former players with size from last year’s 19-6 team that won the Region 5 title and reached the 5A quarterfinals to practice They happened to be in town for their own reasons and happily put on one of their old practice jerseys and returned to their old high school gym The Redhawks don’t have nearly as much height and bulk this year but showed what they can do in a 91-85 win over the Red Devils in a nonregion game Friday night Lincoln Smith had 22 and Charlie Smith 17 as the Redhawks made 14 three-pointers and won another important early season game against a likely 5A championship contender and held a slight lead lead for much of the game The Redhawks then made four consecutive treys to turn away a Springville rally in the final five minutes and finished it off with six straight free throws “It was about as perfect of a game as we can play,” said Sopena We knew Sondrup would get his points but we didn’t let them have any big runs.” Sondrup finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds He also blocked three shots but didn’t change many others because the Redhawks’ fast-paced offense and successful outside scoring kept him from becoming the game’s primary factor teammate Andrew Miller was the Red Devils’ main scoring threat with 27 points “They play such a great style of ball,” said Springville coach Justin Snell of Bountiful “This game was going to be decided by who played their style and we weren’t able to contain their shooters “They started hitting their shots in the first quarter and after that we were always playing catch up.” Springville did take a brief 65-63 lead on one of Miller’s three treys but Bountiful answered with a 3-pointer of its own and then Lincoln Smith made a pair from long range and Cole Hewlett and Charlie Smith each sank a 3 to build a 10-point lead and cut the margin to four points with 11 seconds left Asher Mark then knocked the ball away from a Bountiful player on a full-court press but was whistled for a foul that could have gone either way Bountiful made the ensuing free throws to end the game includes a series of Utah’s most powerful teams on its nonregion schedule “There’s still a lot to work on,” Sopena said “We want to keep getting better and play our best ball in region I was glad that Springville agreed to come up here and play us This was a good game and should help with our RPI.” Raise healthy and productive tomato plants with our expert tips Madeline Buiano is an neighborhoods in Bountiful have been experiencing short power outages for the past week Bountiful says the outages are being caused by a fluffy nuisance — squirrels The outages have lasted from a few seconds to a few minutes there just seems to be more squirrels in the area," said Allen Johnson "The squirrels are climbing up and getting contact with the insulators or the fuses … and they're shorting it out." Johnson said crews have found nearly a dozen squirrels on or around two specific poles three squirrels (were found); and a total of five on that other pole," Johnson said Bountiful City Power and other officials are working to protect the poles and put in other safeguards to prevent the problem "We put on bird guards and squirrel guards … But where we put this insulated protection they've chewed through it," Johnson explained he said crews recently put a slick solution on the pole that has helped slightly there's only so much the city can do to prevent the squirrels from reaching their new electric acorns "We can't control the squirrel population; and why there's so many the city is aware of the problem and will continue working to keep the electricity flowing we don't like to be interrupted … but we've been trying to do our best to trim trees maintain and replace equipment," Johnson said "We've run out to other substations to put more protection to try and avoid this same phenomenon But I can't stop them when they get up there and chew back through the protection." Bountiful appliance business that abruptly closed and filed for bankruptcy are scrambling to figure out the next steps for themselves after Duerden’s Appliance went dark on them For former employees that means a sudden job hunt and for customers it means desperately trying to recoup up to tens of thousands of dollars spent on appliances they say they didn’t receive Building their dream home in the Cache Valley Melodie and Eric Holbrook wanted to splurge special-order appliances “It’s like our forever spot,” Melodie Holbrook said we’ll invest in some nice products.”  explained they made the drive down specifically to Duerden’s Appliance in Bountiful earlier this year because Eric is from the area and he said Duerden’s is a “very reputable company here The Holbrooks made Duerden’s their one-stop-shop for “everything you could think of” to outfit their kitchen the couple said an employee drove up to do a final walkthrough on Oct Melodie Holbrook said their electrician called them to tell them he found out from an installer that Duerden’s closed any line of communication was cut off,” Melodie Holbrook said you couldn’t write anything.”  A family member in Bountiful even personally drove to Duerden’s “You’re just left standing there wondering what in the world happened,” Melodie Holbrook said the day the Holbrooks were supposed to welcome the $40,000 delivery to their new home Duerden’s Appliance filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy the company was more than $7.5 million in debt one section states “Various customers” as being non-priority creditors with unsecured claims with the debt value as “unknown.”  The company’s attorney listed the summary of assets at more than $10.7 million with more than $8 million of that form of appliances and products with a company inventory list more than 100 pages long appliances of the same make and model ordered by the Holbrooks that they were expecting to be delivered are listed in the warehouse inventory While there are multiples of many of the appliances the list of inventoried assets includes only one range and one dryer of the same exact model number and description as what the Holbrooks ordered the Holbrooks still hoped for a way to get their appliances can we please just get a U-Haul and come get our stuff?” Melodie Holbrook said The couple’s thinking quickly shifted to the possibility they wouldn’t receive the appliances and also wouldn’t recover their money “Just gut punch,” Melodie Holbrook said Other customers like the Holbrooks told KSL TV they spent a large amount of money on appliances with no product to show for it Rebecca Baum described spending $15,000 on a sub-zero fridge she said was supposed to be delivered Wednesday and beverage fridge totaling $5,000 purchased on Oct Mike Leaver said two weeks ago he ordered appliances for $2,700 Ryan Geertsen explained how Duerden’s was still storing $2,600 of appliances he ordered for a basement kitchen remodel after the appliances arrived to the warehouse because of delayed construction on the remodel Duerden’s Appliance files for Chapter 7 bankruptcy Both Robynn Kirkham with CK Builders and Olivia Swalberg told KSL NewsRadio about their purchases she said CK Builders put deposits totaling more than $40,000 on behalf of clients Swalberg was expecting $10,000 worth of appliances to be delivered this week “It just felt like a business in this community just left a bunch of people high and dry a bunch of employees without jobs,” Melodie Holbrook said “And there’s nothing for anyone to understand.”  Trying to reach the company any way they could the Holbrooks said they called the employee who had done the walk-through on their home “He was just distraught,” she said ‘I got a call this morning that the business was closing down because they were going to freeze the bank accounts.'”  “I wasn’t notified at all the company was shutting down,” said Kiril Rassoshko a different employee who said he was also let go Wednesday “They just told us good luck after they gave us our last paycheck.”  He said it leaves him looking for a new job Another person who said he worked at Duerden’s but didn’t want to publicly release his name as he pursues another job saying employees were let into the warehouse at 7 a.m and he could see all the install vehicles parked inside and lined up “opened the door with a stack of envelopes in one hand visibly nervous as he told us that the company just didn’t make it and he has chosen to shut the company down for good,” the person explained He went on to say Hall then began handing out the envelopes “and proceeded to tell us he was sorry and to get them cashed before 10 a.m.”  “We were not given any choice of the matter or explanation as to why the company had to shut down,” he said “When one of us started mentioning that this isn’t right (Hall) started saying how he lost his house and vehicles.”  That self-identified former employee said he is now looking for another job who is listed in the Chapter 7 filing as the president of Duerden’s Appliance and he referred us to the attorney listed in the bankruptcy filing Two emails sent to the attorney on Thursday and Friday asking about the bankruptcy and money spent by customers received no responses During a phone call placed to the attorney’s office Friday afternoon following the non-responses KSL was told the attorney had already left for the day the Holbrooks said they reached out to police Most other customers KSL spoke with also reached out to their credit card companies to dispute the payments Kirkham with CK Builders said they paid by check and can’t do a charge back She has filed a complaint with the Utah Attorney General’s Office “Our only hope right now is our credit cards,” Melodie Holbrook said They are supposed to move into their new home in a couple of weeks and the couple said they can’t get a certificate of occupancy without appliances With the credit card investigation expected to take some time due to the couple making payments several months apart they explained they had no choice but to dip even further into their savings for appliances at a different business “We still had to buy the exact same package again,” Melodie Holbrook said we’ve had to spend the money again.”  They’re wondering if they can ever recoup their original $40,000 “It really just feels like consumers should be more taken care of or more protected,” Melodie Holbrook said “We take the fall,” Eric Holbrook said “And we are the one getting punished for this whole situation.” Follow @KSL5TV Broadway Off-Broadway funny and poignant with sharp dialogue. Under Eric Woodall’s direction he has everything staged on Becca Fowler’s unit set that is quite impressively used for multiple locations It starts off as home for the Watts family then through imaginative scene transitions becomes different bus stations and so on one scene change in particular that happened near the end of the show really blew me away but let’s just say that it involves some nice projections from Joshua Reaves Woodall also successfully keeps everything well paced while at the same time pulls out such lived in performances from his cast this is an excellent start to Theatre Raleigh’s 2025 mainstage season A classic drama that’s well acted and emotional I did have tears in my eyes at multiple points you’ll still find a lot to resonate with in The Trip to Bountiful For more information, please click here.
