An impressionistic portrait of a young artist who took the New York scene by storm
Basquiat was divisive upon its release in 1996
Some critics praised Jeffrey Wright’s quiet
as well as the murderers’ row of character actors surrounding him—Christopher Walken
(Not to mention David Bowie as Andy Warhol.) Others took issue with how personal Schnabel
himself a onetime enfant terrible of the New York art world
filling the movie with his own passions and opinions—even creating an alter ego
Our conversation has been edited and condensed for clarity
It seems like a high degree of difficulty for a first film
How did you feel confident enough to take this on
Julian Schnabel: Someone else came to interview me about Jean-Michel
and I tried to help him to get it together
to some different people so he could get an idea about Andy Warhol
But it was impossible to have a tourist make the film
when he goes with Andy Warhol to Dean & DeLuca to buy the caviar
you never see a painter painting in a movie about painters
because the director’s not necessarily that familiar with what it would really be like
Obviously I’d seen Jean-Michel paint in his studio
and so I could instruct Jeffrey how to do that to where it would look believable
when he’s painting that painting on the floor—
You cast Jeffrey Wright just shortly after he did Angels in America on Broadway
but he had never been the central character in a film before
I wanted it to be somebody that wasn’t known
so you felt like you’re watching Jean-Michel
it had to be somebody that would be Jean-Michel being Jean-Michel
And you surrounded him with a bunch of extremely familiar faces
and then let his newness play off against them
And also the fact that David Bowie was playing Andy Warhol
And I think that the sense that here’s this unknown person approaching somebody that’s quite famous
there’s already an undercurrent of believability that is implicit in the dynamic
Did you two figure out how to work together right away
I don’t know if he understood what I was doing sometimes
We watched the movie together not long ago in New York
“I understand how you framed my performance now.” Which meant a lot to me after so many years
I think that he had an idea about who Jean-Michel was and what he wanted to do
And I had my own ideas about how things needed to go
“Lose the battle and you’ll win the war.” When he had an impulse to strike back
the audience will care about you.” I love the movie The 400 Blows
I was really touched by the movie’s portrait of the friendship between Warhol and Basquiat
And it seems like that was really important to you in making this movie
It’s very hard to grow up in public, and people have lots of different opinions about people that they think they know. I know that Andy loved Jean-Michel, and I know that Jean-Michel loved Andy, and he respected him, and it was a big deal for him to work with Andy, and to paint those paintings together
And I think he felt very hurt when he was seen as being used and they were attacked
I think I was the only person who bought a painting out of that show
Warhol recognizes that part of Basquiat’s goal is to erase or destroy or mess with the stuff that Warhol is doing
but also sort of appreciating how it works
I think that they were both free enough and enthusiastic enough
And I think when you trust somebody like that
you’re joined together in history in this life and in the next
Whatever’s not in the painting doesn’t exist
I think that now the movie’s a story of two artists that are very
And it’s an interesting thing to have a character in a movie that is alive in that form
Tell me about the black-and-white remaster that’s on the Criterion disc
this friend of mine wanted to show the movie on the side of a building in Montauk
I’d like people to see it in black and white because it’s more sad
So that’s my plate painting of a painting by Van Gogh that he painted when he was in Arles
It was in a show called “Self-Portraits of Others.” And the reason I’m thinking of this now is
by making the film again and re-showing it
is it taking something that’s dormant and then giving it a rebirth
But the image is something that you recognize as being connected to that other thing
Does that bring you to a place where you re-look at the Van Gogh painting
the Gary Oldman character in Basquiat is a version of you
And I really love that final conversation between Oldman and Basquiat
where he tells him that Andy really was a true friend
Was that a talk that you ever got to have with Jean-Michel
I guess I did have a conversation like that with him
and I wanted to show in the movie how people can be unconscious of how they’re hurting other people’s feelings
Shooter Schnabel—he raised his hand during the Q&A and asked
what could you say when somebody asks a question like that
“I guess you take everything that you have inside and outside of you and you deposit it in that thing.”
“Self-portrait by another person.” It’s a self-portrait of Jean-Michel by another person
that stretch of months proved to be transformative and significant to the rest of his entire life and career than most
It obviously inspired transcendental hits like ‘Heroes’ at the time but the impact continued for a much longer period – even until the twilight of his career
The remnants of these reminiscences came to manifest ultimately on The Next Day
Bowie’s penultimate album from 2013 in which the track ‘Where Are We Now?’ stood out as a reflection on times lived
and lost as the ‘Starman’ looked back over the expanse of his career
seen in lyrics such as: “Had to get the train / from Potsdamer Platz / you never knew that / that I could do that / just walking the dead,” but the juxtaposition of memory and melancholy gave the song its most haunting effect
stopping off at any small village that caught our eye
Other experiences were decidedly more luxurious
the giant department store in the Centre of West Berlin
which had the hugest food counters anyone could imagine with displays that are only imaginable in a country which either must have been seriously deprived of food at one time or where the populace just plain likes to eat a lot.”
However seminal living in the German city may have been
the microcosm experience of finding oneself couldn’t last forever
as Bowie put it himself when he said: “I had not intended to leave Berlin
I just drifted away.” That’s the exact predicament that ‘Where Are We Now?’ wrestles with – remembering the good times while wondering how the years afterwards have just slipped by
while resigning to the fact that those days are coming back
Bowie may never have thought he had an eye to the future
but he certainly seemed like he possessed one
Bowie’s Berlin period – spent equally traversing the open roads while also indulging in the decadence of the city – is a whole chapter in the rock star’s life and career that warrants its own dissection and analysis in understanding exactly what made his sonic world spin from the 1970s onwards
Those notions simply cannot be condensed down
as they represented the process of Bowie’s real musical imagination truly taking flight

it’s difficult to guess what his true personality would have been without the shine of the spotlight
you’d imagine he wouldn’t be quite as exuberant as Ziggy Stardust
you kind of get the sense that his blazing persona spread across every part of his life
his sheer presence probably often felt quite intimidating
This was the exact unfortunate fate befallen on one Frank Zappa
whom Bowie seemed to have a distinctly conflicted view on
despite the rest of the world fawning at his feet
It wasn’t that he necessarily disapproved of Zappa’s music
but it was the man himself that Bowie found a tougher nut to crack
ultimately so much so that he didn’t see the point in putting the effort into figuring him out
Bowie mused over the puzzle that was Zappa when asked if any of the prog rocker’s records particularly resonated with him
He liked “We’re Only in it for the Money,” the 1968 album by Zappa-fronted band The Mothers of Invention
“because I mean I saw huge potential in that area for Zappa
but I don’t understand Zappa and I’m not that intrigued by him to try to unwrap his problems or try to find out why.”
the erratic events that Zappa endured throughout the course of the 1970s were enough to set anyone’s head spinning
let alone someone like Bowie who was already grappling with the dizzying state of the world and the scale of his still relatively newfound fame
it was probably a wise decision on his part to steer clear of that rollercoaster
his inimitable presence could have had the potential to blight Zappa’s career by simply asserting that he was squandering his potential
the opportunities of the genre still took some convincing
there was no major harm done to Zappa’s life and legacy by Bowie not understanding his brand – but that doesn’t mean that his presence could be any less intimidating if you came under his wrath
that although artists with such seismic careers have a somewhat untouchable aura
It comes after weeks of teasers on Instagram
David Bowie and Iman’s daughter Lexi Jones has quietly released her debut album ‘Xandri’. Check it out below.
The LP was released on Wednesday (April 2) and followed weeks of Jones sharing snippets of various tracks on her Instagram account, such as ‘Standing alone’, ‘Moving on’, and ‘Through all the time’, alongside video clips from her childhood.
Spanning 12 songs and 47 minutes, the album incorporates elements of pop, electronic and indie rock, with 24-year-old Jones’ – born Alexandria Zahra Jones – vocals at the forefront.
The artwork, presumably created by Jones who is also a visual artist, depicts two faces attached to the same head, attempting to split away from each other. Meanwhile, ‘Xandri’, the album’s title, comes from the Greek name meaning “defender of mankind”.

(7News) — The owners of Six Flags America in Bowie
announced plans to close the park permanently and put the 500-acre property up for sale after the 2025 season
according to a statement released Thursday
in a statement about the shutdown to investors
area's biggest amusement park and the attached Hurricane Harbor park were "not a strategic fit with the company’s long-term growth plan." The park will permanently close on November 2
Six Flags President and CEO Richard Zimmerman said they believe the property should be redeveloped to reach its highest value and has signed a commercial real estate firm
Prince George's County Council Member Wala Blegay represents the district where the theme park is located
and told 7News the announcement blindsided her
"Just to know they're closing is greatly disappointing
but what they did offer is that we're going to be working with the developer that they have designated
to try to see what we could do to make sure whatever comes forth makes sense for the community here," Blegay said
"We are looking for economic development
A big part of what I've been discussing is expanding our commercial development for our tax base
7News On Your Side also spoke with Prince George's County Council Chair Edward Burroughs
He echoed the sense of urgency Blegay said will be needed to figure out what to do with the land
"It's always disappointing when a staple in the community decides to shut down
I see opportunity: so many acres there that we can redevelop into something that's going to be special for both residents and the county
"They appear to want to collaborate and work with the community
work with the government to ensure whatever we put there is uplifting and helpful to the county."
This announcement comes on the heels of another announcement that could be a potential economic blow to the county
The Washington Commanders announced this week they had reached an agreement with D.C
Mayor Muriel Bowser to build a new stadium at the old RFK Stadium site
that would mean the team would leave behind Northwest Stadium
the Prince George's County stadium where they currently play their home games
"We are going through difficult times
It has been a bad week with just the Commanders and the announcement of Six Flags
There was no advance notice of any sort that I ever had working with them that this was coming," Blegay said
"What we're talking about is finding something that makes sense here
We're going to make sure the community is involved in every step of the way
but the reality is we have to move forward
Burroughs told 7News that the Commanders' departure and Six Flags' closure could present unique economic opportunities
did not generate massive amounts of revenue to begin with
I believe whatever we replace it with will actually be a larger contributor to the county
but it's now up to all of us to work together to put something that's going to uplift Prince George's
"We don't want Six Flags to sit there as an eyesore
but we want to redevelop that entire location to be helpful to Prince George's County."
Prince George's County Council Member Krystal Oriadha called it the "end of an era" after the shutdown was announced
this park has been a staple of family fun and youth engagement
as well as a key driver of seasonal employment and tourism," a statement from Oriadha's office read
"Its loss is a significant blow—not just emotionally
and countless families who have made memories there."
Acting County Executive Tara Jackson provided the following statement:
The park opened for the season on April 12
with its water park set to reopen on May 24
The amusement park group did not announce whether any additional steps would be taken for the park's 70 full-time associates beyond severance and benefits for eligible workers
These jobs played a key role in the county
"They were a big part of hiring our youth during the summertime
'An idle mind is the devil's workshop.' We want to make sure kids are active," Blegay said
"We need to have a robust summer program at the county level."
Burroughs also said the council will be at work figuring out how to help the county's youth who rely on these summer jobs
"We know that there were a number of young people hired at Six Flags over the summer
we'll be working to ensure we are able to help find other placements for young people moving forward," Burroughs said
"We want to make sure we have safe places for our young people to go after school
How do we expand our youth employment programs to not just be 30 days in the summer
North Carolina-based company completed an $8 billion merger with Cedar Fair Entertainment in 2024
making it responsible for 27 amusement parks
The company has not yet released its financial report for Quarter 1 of Fiscal Year 2025
but officials said the shutdown would not impact its finances
and we recognize the impact it will have on our Six Flags America and Hurricane Harbor park associates and guests,” a statement from Zimmerman read
“We are grateful to our park associates who work hard to create lifelong memories for our guests
and Six Flags is committed to supporting all impacted associates through the closure process at the end of this year
Six Flags America and Hurricane Harbor have been an important part of the local community
and this final season will be an opportunity to celebrate the decades of fun that guests have enjoyed at the property.”
Those with season passes and tickets will still get to use them
While the county's residents enjoy the last year of the amusement park
Blegay told 7News these same community members will be relied upon to figure out what to do with the land
"We will be having meetings with the community to discuss what the next steps are
so we can guide the community through the steps," Blegay said
"We will work on them to see if we could extend their time
but that's something we can talk about
But the reality is we need to be prepared for the fact they announced they're leaving and we are going to prepare
we have to make sure we have something to replace them

Lodger’s languorous opening track hits like a revelation
His most confessional lyric since 1971’s Quicksand
Fantastic Voyage combines lessons learnt (“Loyalty is valuable/But our lives are valuable too”) with Cold War apocalypse and weary mission statement (“They wipe out an entire race/And I’ve got to write it down”) on a valedictory track that pointedly muddies Visconti’s triple mandolin pop optimism beneath stretched-tape bad-vibes murk

not least that this extravagant assembly of egos was able to channel their competitive instincts so modestly
Although it’s overly simplistic to suggest that Under Pressure is Bowie’s words set to Queen’s music – the famous bassline was reportedly dictated by Bowie to John Deacon – it was Bowie who transformed a rich men’s Montreux jam into this vulnerable humanist anthem with his impassioned vocal and lyric (“Because love’s such an old fashioned word”)
Bowie’s glasnost period was now in full onward march
Bowie conjures up a uniquely disconcerting atmosphere with his most eerie and least comprehensible imagery
Each chorus steadily rises into the plaintive cry
Bowie has called it “Star Trek in a leather jacket” and the lyrics sketch out sinister characters sliding in and out of history
“Hanging out with your 12 men.” The song retains its inscrutability
ending with a hideous nursery rhyme sung by the Laughing Gnome’s evil progeny
Low’s celebrated futurism actually comes with a generous dollop of Bowie’s rock’n’roll origins
Its first side is a suite of schizoid fragments with a teddy boy swagger and a Joe Meek-like illogic to their sound
this gumbo of rollicking piano (by former Rebel Rouser
as a song that manages to be simultaneously neurotic and uplifting
Altogether now: "Sometimes I get so lonely!"
(from The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars
from the slow suspenseful fade-in of drums to Bowie’s scene-setting grip of sudden shock
simmering rise through the reactions of the dramatis personae
whose collective tone of disbelief is offset by Bowie’s almost nonchalant delivery
strings creep in and his voice turns strident before unleashing a climatic chorus worthy of a terrace anthem to impart a collective outpouring of panic
As glam rock’s bedazzled children took punk into mainstream consciousness
the original grande dame instigated a return to the primitive
but a dissection of masculinity’s clichéd properties (“you can buy a home of your own!”) set to a drunken grind
first because Bowie had swapped Carlos Alomar to drums and Dennis Davis to bass
then quite remarkably hands over the song’s entire second half to Adrian Belew’s migraine guitar solo
Listen to plenty of Bowie’s work from 1976-80 and you realise how much winging-it is going on
how much he relies on twisting rock’n’roll’s staple components out of all recognition
how his song structures disobey convention
multiple Davids give us some robotic doo-wop for 90 seconds
When the voices stop the band wakes up for a minute of wigging out
this magical song was bestowed the most intricate of productions by Gus Dudgeon and a sweeping arrangement by Paul Buckmaster (they defined the sound of early Elton John

spacey ending sees Bowie take a great leap; the words
a lonely dialogue of alienation between a doomed astronaut and ground control provide a metaphor for Bowie’s entire career
Bugged by a male flatmate (or lover?) and anxiously awaiting the arrival of a “mellow-thighed chick”
the narrator of Suffragette City is a basket case of sexual anxiety
The song moves at the speed of racing hormones before Bowie finally achieves release in one of the finest fake endings in pop
it presents Bowie as an omnivorous pasticheur with an endless appetite
Rebel Rebel was the year’s teenage party fire-starter supreme
Bowie’s seductive Pied Piper beckons us headlong to messy excess
of which this was Bowie’s brilliant sunset
not even the Stones’ cheeky rabble-rouser could match it
Its title taken from a 1633 play by English dramatist John Ford
‘Tis A Pity She Was A Whore was initially recorded with the Maria Schneider Orchestra along with Sue (Or In A Season Of Crime )
it burrowed deeper into the intersection between free jazz and hip-hop (Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp A Butterfly was an influence) creating a raucous five-minute mesh of melody and discord
gasping under the pack-ice of no-wave sax squawk
Clearly the work of someone who’s just finished playing an alien
this 10-minute oddity feels like a ride to oblivion for the first few minutes before shifting abruptly into some twitchy prog and a lengthy Ziggy-like rock out
The chilling lyric nods to mystical places in the Kabbalah (“Kether to Malkuth”)
White Stains (Aleister Crowley’s 1898 collection of erotic poems)
which drove the sessions so hard Bowie claims not to recall them at all
Bowie’s discotheque apotheosis arrived a whole three years before Let’s Dance
Fashion gets overlooked in the scramble to decipher Ashes To Ashes
whether seemingly accidental (Bowie rolling with the second verse’s fluffed metre
indulgent (Robert Fripp’s show-subverting guitar)
and above all the supreme pliability of the Davis/Murray rhythm section
The “fashion”/“fascist” dialectic never gets old either
then gave one of the album’s best songs to Peter Noone of Herman’s Hermits
Bowie’s version still contrasted lyrical themes of alien intervention at the end of the human race with a sing-along chorus
“The Earth is a bitch!” exclaims Bowie (toned down to “beast” for Noone’s version)
Bowie used Haddon Hall’s decadent interiors to devour not just bodies but philosophy
including his first forays into occult ideology and Nazi myth
Quicksand found Bowie “sinking” under the weight
guitar – mostly multiple layers of translucent acoustic 12-string – and strings provided exquisite melodic relief
Never has the Buddhist wisdom embedded in the chorus
“knowledge comes with death’s release” sounded so comforting
Bowie’s Top Of The Pops performance of Starman was burned onto a nation’s retinas
but what of dance troupe Ruby Flipper’s eerie
Said to be inspired by a very high Iggy claiming the TV was eating his girlfriend
this truly opaque song is anchored by Roy Bittan’s pounding piano as Carlos Alomar sprays random guitar over it all
A flash mid-paced rocker essentially about a futuristic mating ritual
stemmed from a song Bowie heard by a Kim Fowley group
The way Ronson’s strings illuminate the third chorus is spine-tingling
as is his guitar solo over the coda its insistent single bent notes a response to Bowie’s instructions
Largely directed at Bowie’s then-manager Tony Defries
Fame is as angry as its groove is locked down and its production trebley and cocaine fizzy
cribbed from a much-changed tour cover of The Flares’ Foot Stomping
The presence of John Lennon on falsetto backing vocals is a fitting touch and the cartoony pitch-shifted repetition of the title at 3.35 underlines the hall-of-mirrors aspects of its subject matter
Written days after Bowie’s pact with new manager Tony Defries
this supernatural rumba with its faint air of wish-fulfilment quickly became a title track and seemed destined for big things
Kurt Cobain resurrected the song in November ’93

The freewheeling first half of Low spawned one of the strangest hits of Bowie’s career
delivered in a casual croon and structured like an old 78
where the vocalist arrives late – in this case exactly half way through – to sing about the blue room where he’ll go “drifting into my solitude” and wait for inspiration to strike
Its old-world feel is heightened by a cheesy string-machine
David Bowie pointing straight into the camera during Starman’s Top Of The Pops appearance might have been a generation’s Creation Of Adam moment
this transmission about a transmission is a dazzling enactment of an alien recruitment drive
Hints of Wichita Lineman zing down the wires
while the intergalactic communique shares rock’n’roll’s conspiratorial thrills: pirate radio’s under-the-counterpane frisson
This has the lot: a theme that’s both self-serving and (those quotation marks) ironic
an epic “lovers across the Berlin Wall” backstory
three Robert Fripp guitar parts rolled into one
and Bowie himself rising above waves both new and old
Less remarked upon are parallels with ’60s heartbreaker ballads like Cilla Black’s You’re My World or Mina’s Se Telefonando
which are echoed in emotion-packed words (“nothing”
“forever”) and Visconti’s production masterstroke of opening up Bowie’s vocal in stages – a dynamic twist on that old arrangement cliché the key change
In 1971 Bowie was tapping into the mood of a jaded
the psychic fallout from the optimism and upheaval of the ’60s
this was a reason to hunker down and build cocoons
Cannily flattering his would-be tribe of disgruntled teenagers
he extrapolated his own impatience for fame into a generational hunger for grand transformation
could have been an opportunistic allusion both to the recent launch of Soviet probes to study the red planet and to Bowie’s own post-Space Oddity reputation
rocketed into the stratosphere by the singer
it also suggests a genuine yearning for new wonders
Mick Ronson’s extraordinarily cinematic arrangement gives Life On Mars
scale and transcendence and it builds magnificently towards a glorious Hollywood finale before the fade-out gingerly returns us to reality.Ultimately
the song itself provides the escapism that its heroine craves – for all its images of bathos and decline
it’s the work of art that temporarily makes a straitened life seem bigger and brighter
A more transparent lyric would only have clipped its wings because it’s the insoluble ambiguity in Bowie’s imagery that allows it to be covered by both Barbra Streisand and The Flaming Lips
to speak to each listener in mysterious ways
The question mark continues to hang over this magnificently strange creation

a Bowie State University alumnus who is no stranger to the spotlight and known across the DMV and beyond as “Kyle on the Mic,” has turned his love for entertainment into a career that blends authenticity

is more than a modeling troupe—it’s a movement
guiding them from uncertainty to unshakable confidence
from curiosity to career-defining opportunities
Here’s how three unique journeys found their stride through the power of community
When Shaunira “Rebel” Williams first arrived at Bowie State as a business major
contributing her skills as a photographer to Models Inc
But one spontaneous decision at tryouts changed everything.
“The board encouraged me to go for it—and from there
she quickly advanced—earning her model name
and becoming assistant content creator for the 2023–2024 academic year
she leads with confidence and mentors her peers.
“I don’t really follow the norms,” she explained
It’s about breaking molds and leading in unexpected ways.”
Rebel has built a résumé of powerful moments: walking in Baltimore Fashion Week in front of her family
helping Bowie State win the HBCU Fashion Battle
and interning at New York Fashion Week with designer Romeo Hunte
“I was capturing content behind the scenes
To open a photography studio in her hometown and create a space where young creatives can thrive
And central to her journey is the mentorship of Models Inc
“He’s filled that parental role in so many ways,” she said
“He’s not just about modeling advice—it’s life advice.”
For junior Deinbia “Star” Johnson
was more than an extracurricular—it was a life-changer
Star arrived at Bowie State with runway experience but found her voice and true family within the program.
“I was a whole different person before I came,” she shared
it was the first time I felt genuine support and love from a group of people who actually want to see you win.”
Originally majoring in Fine and Performing Arts
Star later switched to sociology—drawn by her personal experiences as an adoptee surrounded by social workers
“It’s something I can genuinely learn from and use to help others,” she said.
Her journey with Models Inc. started before she even enrolled. “I saw the Models Inc Instagram in 12th grade and started following their page
He helped me channel my energy—not toward negativity
Star plans to continue modeling post-graduation and hopes to explore music and performance
But one thing is certain: she’ll always stay connected to Models Inc.
Her message to others: “Just come as you are
We will mold you into the person you desire to be.”
When Mohamed Kaloga transferred to Bowie State
he brought two passions with him: technology and fashion
Now a junior majoring in computer technology with a cybersecurity focus and minoring in fashion design
“I wasn’t even thinking about walking the runway—I just wanted to find models and get content,” he said
became the perfect platform for his multidimensional creativity.
Walking in New York Fashion Week and being featured in Vogue
“I originally went to intern with Romeo Hunte
and the next thing I know—I’m on the runway.”
he credits Bang and Movah for believing in him
They opened doors I never thought I’d walk through

The goal is to get our name in rooms that have never seen anything like us
You don’t even have to model—there’s room for everyone

Bowie has two things in common with all the communities on Redfin’s hottest markets list
the most appealing neighborhoods are those that offer both access to cities and some of that small town suburban charm,” said Daryl Fairweather
with a 31% increase in home sales and a 140% jump in median views per listing in the past year
particularly for properties with new development and more affordable pricing compared to D.C
Homes in Bowie are selling quickly, often with multiple offers, according to Redfin
The median price of a home sale in Bowie in February was $495,000
Its location is also appealing to many commuters
which makes for a bigger job market,” Fairweather said
“And the area is growing in terms of appeal which has led to higher prices
but Bowie remains one of the more affordable markets in the D.C
so I think that makes it even hotter.”
Bowie is also within commuter distance to Baltimore
Any market that becomes popular for buyers runs the risk of its popularity pricing itself out of affordability
Fairweather said that does not appear to be the case for Bowie just yet
I think competition is heating up without price growth getting out of hand,” she said
“I don’t think that’s enough to worry that prices are overinflated yet
I do think it is more of a sign that prices will go up in the next year.”
Bowie is the only D.C.-area community in the top 10 for hottest current markets
Two other Maryland communities get honorable mentions further down the Redfin list: Upper Marlboro and Lusby

“I learned that Bowie State had a lacrosse club team
which would provide me with more control over my schedule,” said Butler

but understands the significance of growing lacrosse within HBCUs.

and lacrosse gave me that opportunity,” he said.

David Bowie's daughter Lexi Jones spoke out about being held up to the standard of her late father as she put out music of her own: "Not a copy
Lexi Jones knows she's under pressure to live up to her late father's legacy
the daughter of Iman and the late David Bowie—who passed in 2016 following a battle with pancreatic cancer—shared a special poem she wrote to remind others that there is more to her than just being the music icon's offspring
“I’m the daughter of a legend, but I’m more than just his name," she wrote in the poem posted to her Instagram April 10
Noting that she’s “not a copy, not a shadow” of her later father, Lexi—who released her debut album "Xandri" earlier this month—continued, “They compare me to his heights, like I’m supposed to reach his light."
Her words gave insight into how her goals aren't to live up to her father’s legacy, but to love what she does and show her true self through her music.
"But I’m not here to chase what’s already been done," she wrote. "By loving what I do, I feel I’ve already won.”
And Lexi closed out her poem by vowing not to let others opinions stop her from pursuing her passion.
"Never thought I was good at much. Never thought it was worth it to pursue," she wrote, “I’m not trying to be that someone that all love and admire. So I’m creating my own rhythm, letting my true self show."
Lexi added, "But I’ll keep moving, keep doing me even when the world is hard to please. I’m not trying to fill his shoes, I’m just trying to find my own peace.”

As for Iman—who was married to Bowie for 23 years until his death—the supermodel has previously spoken out about the people who took interest in her daughter because of who her parents are
"Every agency, every designer, called me to say: ‘If she wants to, we’d love for her to model for us.’ I said: 'No, she doesn't,'" Iman explained in a 2018 interview with Porter magazine
"I know why they wanted to her to model
It’s because she is David Bowie's daughter."
