The Chiefs quarterback and the retired NFL star chatted and snapped photos together ahead of the F1 Miami Grand Prix
When it comes to the current controversy surrounding Bill Belichick
Bill Simmons couldn’t help but view it through the prism of being a New England Patriots fan
While the email is largely focused on the PR strategy to promote his upcoming book
one portion of the message touts Belichick’s role in helping grow the Patriots from a franchise worth $500 million to $8 billion over the course of his tenure with the team
After Russillo noted that it’s actually the NFL’s TV deals that played the biggest part in the exploding evaluation
Simmons pointed out that the email “explains a lot about what happened from the mid-2010s on with [Tom] Brady and Belichick.”
we’re just about Super Bowls,'” Simmons said
“But there was clearly some sort of ego thing and it’s two guys that really understood their place in history in a whole bunch of different ways
There’s no credit.’ But the credit thing was a big part of it and [Jimmy] Garoppolo is in there and [Brady’s] really thinking about — I never wanted to believe it
when [ESPN’ Seth] Wickersham and people like that were reporting about it
Stop trying to cause trouble.’ But there clearly was a a ton of trouble
Simmons continued: “I think that really explained to me why Brady didn’t end up [re-signing] with the Patriots because what everybody was writing about and doing the sports radio topic of ‘who’s more responsible for all the Super Bowls: Belichick or Brady?’ And the right answer was always both
They needed each other and that’s the answer
they both kind of thought each of them was more responsible than the other
So when I read that paragraph [in the email] I thought
Belichick must have been so pissed when Brady had that Tampa season where he won the title
Because clearly he does give a s**t about all this stuff.”

"Maybe MLB should read 'Nineteen Eighty-Four.'"
Brady was on a podcast with Deion Sanders and Shedeur last year
The subject of 'Grown's' $400k Rolls-Royce was brought up with the legendary NFL QB telling Shedeur to focus on football.
“I think he needs to get his ass in the film room and spend as much time in there as possible and less time in the car,” Brady said.
While the future Hall-of-Famer threw it out there
Sanders' flashy ways are part of his brand with a reported $6.5 million NIL valuation
likely more than his entire rookie contract with the Browns
His love for the pricey chains was evident last year.
showing off $1 million in cash in a Louis Vuitton case
The typical 'Welcome to the NFL' package for any fifth-round going to the Browns.
Brady knew he needed more work on the field to solidify himself as a top pick
Shedeur got to Cleveland early and wants to make a good impression in the community
There's no telling how much of a bag he fumbled by falling in the draft
Some projections say it cost him over $40 million by not going in the first round.
who passed on Shedeur with several opportunities in the top 100 picks.
While Sanders' arrival in Cleveland has been noteworthy with the NFL's top jersey sales
he still has work to do in order to make the roster
Maybe Brady's advice hit home after waiting until Day 3 of the draft to find his NFL home.

Brady was the primary starter during his final two seasons at Michigan, but Drew Henson was lurking behind him and pushing for playing time, and there was plenty of support among fans for Henson to supplant him.

there was constant pressure on Ewers the past two seasons due to the presence of Arch Manning
1 recruit in the nation when he arrived at Texas in 2023
as the New England Patriots selected him 199th overall in the sixth round of the 2000 NFL draft
and he went on to become arguably the greatest player in NFL history with seven Super Bowl wins to his credit
Ewers was the final quarterback selected in the 2025 NFL draft
going 231st overall in the seventh round to the Miami Dolphins
Tua Tagovailoa is the Dolphins' unquestioned starting quarterback
just like Drew Bledsoe was for the Patriots when Brady was drafted
there is a definite path available to Ewers to make Miami's roster
the only other quarterback on the Dolphins roster is Zach Wilson
who has thus far been a bust since the New York Jets took him second overall in the 2021 NFL draft
having missed time in all but one of his five NFL seasons due to concussions and a host of other injuries
Much like a Bledsoe injury opened the door for Brady
a Tua injury could perhaps do the same for Ewers at some point in the future
It may be a stretch to suggest Ewers would be able to take advantage of the opportunity in the same way Brady did
but there is no doubt that Jones is right about there being several parallels between Ewers and Brady
Brady had 36 receptions for 386 yards (10.7 per) and three touchdowns last season at California
His best game came against archrival Stanford
when he had five catches for 64 yards and a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns in a comeback victory
played the previous two years at New Mexico State
compiling 62 catches for 931 yards (15.0 per) and seven TDs

Defending SportsMod champion opens season at Benton County Speedway with runner-up finish in feature
The Gazette offers audio versions of articles using Instaread
Brady Hilmer of Dysart converted eight top-5 finishes without a victory into his first season points championship in the IMCA Northern SportMod division at Benton County Speedway
On the opening night of IMCA weekly racing Sunday at “The Bullring,” Hilmer began his 2025 campaign in similar fashion with a runner-up finish in the Northern SportMod feature race
“It’s nice to be back,” said Hilmer
I have been out a couple of times this year
I kind of struggled a little last night (a 12th-place finish Saturday night at Independence Motor Speedway)
but we went back to the shop today and worked
Worked on it all day and it showed tonight
“Feels good to get back to ‘The Bullring.’”
Hilmer fought through the 15-lap feature replete with caution stoppages before placing just behind Daniel Harris of Excelsior Springs
but his Friday and Saturday race destinations likely will change from week to week
“We got an RV last year to stay the night at racetracks,” Hilmer said
“Try to just hit a couple weekend shows
bounce around and go wherever we feel like we want to go.”
Hilmer grew up attending races at BCS with his father
last season’s points title was the culmination of incremental improvement
Hilmer went from 13th place in 2021 to fourth in 2022 and second two years ago
“It helped my confidence more than anything,” Hilmer said
“You have your bad nights and you get kind of down
but then you come out on top at the end of the year
It raises your confidence enough to know that you are good enough to run with these guys and that you can run with these guys
we have got the best SportMods maybe in the U.S.”
With improved confidence and a season championship already on his resume
Hilmer hopes to produce more victories this season
He collected one feature win at BCS in both 2021 and 2022
keep on top of your maintenance,” Hilmer said
make sure your car is ready to go each week
You just have to come prepared and ready to go.”
Sunday’s feature winners included another Dysart resident in Blake Driscoll (Sport Compact)
Marengo’s Nathan Ballard (Hobby Stock) and Eric Blumer of Sun Prairie
The Pro Late Model feature was won by Marshalltown’s Tom Berry

Three-time Super Bowl champion Patrick Mahomes has started his Formula 1 race weekend the right way: attending a luxury beach party that costs $3,000 per ticket
Joining the fun alongside his wife Brittany on the Friday ahead of the Miami Grand Prix
the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback is enjoying the niceties that follows being an investor in an F1 team
The Alpine F1 team investor attended the annual American Express presents Carbone Beach party, held on South Beach. Rubbing shoulders with other huge celebrities and sportsman like NFL legend Tom Brady
and is limited to only 400 guests per evening
it's seen as one of the most exclusive and upmarket parties in Miami
"I never would have dreamed of being at an Amex x Carbone Beach party," he said
Look at all of these chandeliers and rigatoni...this is AWESOME....Not sure what heaven feels like
but I'm pretty sure it feels like Carbone Beach during...F1."
Mahomes has a stong connection to F1 after he invested in the Enstone team in 2023. Alongside others such as Travis Kelce and Ryan Reynolds
the group invested $218 million into the French team
"I am thrilled to lead an investor group and join forces with Patrick and the team at Otro Capital on this exciting venture with Alpine F1," Kelce said at the time
"Our shared passion for excellence and innovation forms the cornerstone of this partnership
"It's about being able to contribute to a sport that demands precision
I am looking forward to this new chapter and can't wait to see what we achieve together."
The opportunity to lead an investor group with Travis in Alpine F1 alongside Otro Capital was one I couldn't pass up
"It's an exciting time for the sport and this is an opportunity to bring our shared values to the world stage
I'm looking forward to being a part of its growth."
The Carbone Beach party has previously featured performances from the likes of Andrea Bocelli and Pitbull and has seen attendance from LeBron James, David Beckham, and Serena Williams
with American Express card as its presenting sponsor

TWO of the greatest quarterbacks to ever do it crossed paths once again as Patrick Mahomes and Tom Brady bumped into each other
The NFL icons were both attending an F1 Miami party when they were filmed having a chat at the event
Mahomes, 29, took the time to introduce Brady to his wife Brittany as they both seemed in good spirits during the Miami GP get-together at the lavish Carbone Beach party in Magic City
The Kansas City Chiefs QB was enjoying some downtime in the offseason as he was spotted drinking a beer
Mahomes and Brady even had a chance to pose for a photo together
The snap sent football fans into a frenzy as the two throwers
who have a tied 3-3 record against each other
still spark debate over who is the greatest of all time
While a second commented: "I see only one GOAT and it's Brady".
And a third posted: "First and second best of all time. The cool thing is we won’t know which is which for another decade or so."
And one fan even thought that Brady, who now works as a broadcaster for Fox Sports, looked in good enough shape to get the better of Mahomes, some two years after retiring.
Mahomes still trails Brady by some way when it comes to winning the Super Bowl
Brady, 47, is a seven-time Super Bowl champion, winning six times with the New England Patriots and once with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers - beating Mahomes in Super Bowl LIV in 2021
While Mahomes currently has three Super Bowl rings to his name
but has become a dominant force in the league and has age on his side at just 29 years old

If the New York Rangers were holding out any hope that Brady Tkachuk might ask for a trade this offseason
the Ottawa Senators captain made sure to snuff it out this weekend
Speaking about the persistent rumors that he wants out of Ottawa
an irritated Tkachuk was very clear in his messaging at Senators break-up day
“Obviously it’s a lie,” Tkachuk stated flatly
But I think it’s on me if I let that bother me or take me off what I’m trying to do
Everyone knows that I’ll do whatever it takes to win
Everybody wants to accomplish the same thing and win the Stanley Cup.”
Earlier this season, before the Senators found their groove and eventually ended a seven-year playoff drought by capturing the first wild card in the Eastern Conference
rumors were rampant that Tkachuk was sick of the losing in Ottawa and wanted to be traded
The 25-year-old had never played a postseason game in his career before this season and just watched up close when his brother Matthew helped the Florida Panthers win the Stanley Cup last spring
the rumors made sense — at least on the surface
which made even more sense considering general manager Chris Drury was looking to shake up the roster mix and Tkachuk was exactly the type player the Blueshirts coveted — fiery
The Senators became so annoyed with the rumors that Tkachuk was going to be traded to the Rangers that their owner
dropped a “soft tampering” accusation against the Blueshirts in December
and we defer to the commissioner’s office,” a Rangers spokesperson said in reply to Andlauer’s comment
Related: Mike Sullivan hire by Rangers a ‘home run’: Brian Boyle
acquiring the veteran center from the Vancouver Canucks on Jan
and would seemingly still have interest in trying to add Tkachuk this offseason
though there’s been no credible reporting about that possibility
He sounded all-in on Ottawa after that series concluded last week
“I want to play here, I want to be here, and I really believe in everybody in this organization that everybody wants to win here,” Tkachuk told reporters
Everybody has the same goal and wants to accomplish the same thing.”
Tkachuk has a full no-move clause in his contract that kicks in July 1. He has three years remaining on his $8.2 million AAV deal and can become an unrestricted free agent in the 2028 offseason
It sounds like if the Rangers really want the stud forward

It was Edelman's first year on the ballot
and he earned the honors after an incredible career in New England
In an Instagram story from Tom Brady
Edelman was congratulated on making the Patriots Hall of Fame
Brady threw to a lot of incredible receivers in his future Hall of Fame career
and Edelman was one of the best he ever played alongside
Brady threw 35 touchdowns to Edelman in New England, the third most in touchdowns to a single receiver in Brady's career. Edelman was a huge factor in every postseason run the Patriots went on, even winning Super Bowl MVP in 2018
New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady (12) and wide receiver Julian Edelman (11) during Opening Night for Super Bowl LIII at State Farm Arena
Edelman had 6,822 receiving yards with the Patriots
He also has the most targets with 941 and the second most receptions with 620
Edelman tallied up 1,442 receiving yards in the postseason
He helped the Patriots win three Super Bowls and was an instrumental part of the Patriots' dynasty from the moment he arrived in 2009 to his retirement after 2020
The connection between Edelman and Brady was a major factor in the Patriots becoming a dynasty
Their chemistry helped the Patriots win multiple Super Bowls.
The duo reached their peak together on a miraculous catch against the Atlanta Falcons in the Super Bowl
Edelman's catch kept the Patriots alive and was the turning point in the Patriots overcoming a 28-3 deficit
While Edelman never won any major individual awards for his regular-season work
his postseason greatness helped Brady and the Patriots become the dynasty Patriots fans know today
Brady's message to Edelman isn't an elaborate one
but it's a short and sweet one that showcases their relationship and Brady's appreciation for Edelman
Sanders, who starred at Colorado, was selected in the fifth round by the Cleveland Browns as the No
It was quite the fall from the top-five projections by many mock drafts
Safe to assume, the 23-year-old quarterback is eager to prove everyone wrong. He, however, has to earn his spot, with the Browns also having veterans Deshaun Watson, Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett and rookie Dillon Gabriel in its roster of signal-callers.
Amid everything, an old video of NFL legend Tom Brady chatting with Sanders resurfaced. After Sanders talked about having a Rolls Royce as a college kid, the seven-time Super Bowl champion offered a sound suggestion

"I think he needs to get his (expletive) in the film room and spend as much time in there as possible and less time in the car,” said Brady in the video published last year
If there's one player who should know about rising from the bottom of the draft, it's Brady. He was selected by the New England Patriots in the sixth round as the No
Multiple reports said Sanders' attitude and the possible interference of his father, NFL icon Deion Sanders
The Browns could harness his potential and help him become a well-rounded quarterback
He threw for 4,134 yards and 37 touchdowns in his final year with the Buffaloes.
there were several players who made a huge impact on his career
but there are few as important as former wide receiver Julian Edelman
who spent his entire 12-year career with the franchise
Now, Edelman's time with New England will never be forgotten because on Monday, the team announced that he had been voted on by fans to become the 37th member to enter the Patriots Hall of Fame
Congratulations bubs," via his Instagram story
Tom Brady reacting to Julian Edelman news
Brady and Edelman formed an elite duo as the wide receiver would go on to accumulate 620 receptions
6,822 yards and 36 touchdowns in 137 regular-season games
He was also a part of three of the Patriots' championship-winning runs, even being named Super Bowl LIII MVP after hauling in 10 receptions and 141 yards in their 13-3 win over the Los Angeles Rams
New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady (12) and wide receiver Julian Edelman (11)
as Edelman continued to be a threat for Brady throughout the playoffs
being targeted 180 times while accumulating 118 receptions
Now, the two will be enshrined forever in Patriots' history, as Brady was inducted into the team's Hall of Fame back in 2024 after playing his final season for New England in 2019
although it’s not exactly clear as to what prompted it or when the messages were exchanged
On Friday (May 2), the controversial football star took to X, formerly Twitter, to share a screenshot of an alleged private conversation between him and the Super Bowl champion
in which Brady appeared to began by praising AB
The former Pittsburgh Steeler replied: "Love ya champ !!!
thanks for everything your presence a blessing.”
Continuing to speak highly of his former New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers teammate
Brady seemingly then encouraged Brown to take care of his mental health
please don't miss your psychologist appointments,” he allegedly wrote
“PHYSICAL – you have mastered and it is easy for you to work hard
MENTAL – you are very smart and you know the game
You need to work equally as hard here!"
Brown captioned his post: “Please don't miss Psychologist appointments...
It’s unclear when the supposed exchange took place given that AB shared no timeframe or timestamps
Antonio Brown’s contentious relationship with Tom Brady has seen him take a few shots at the future Hall of Fame QB, including comments about his rest time
and even allegations about sleeping with Brady’s ex wife Gisele Bündchen
It’s not just Brady in the firing line of Brown’s antics, the athlete/rapper has been trolling Shannon Sharpe in recent weeks, after a woman filed a $50 million lawsuit accusing the Club Shay Shay host of sexual assault
Brown, who was accused of rape by his former trainer Britney Taylor in 2019 and faced domestic battery charges in 2022
shared several posts ridiculing Sharpe on X
He also made suggestions about Sharpe's sexual orientation
While Sharpe has a lot on his plate right now with the lawsuit, things aren't looking so bright for Brown, either. The former NFL star filed for bankruptcy last year and claimed that he has $50,000 or less in assets.

Sanders had been seen as a sure fire first round pick by the majority of analysts
with Mel Kiper selecting him as his top quarterback for the entire draft
NFL general managers did not see the same thing as the television pundits
then the third...the fourth came and went without Sanders name getting called
in the fifth round the Cleveland Browns selected Sanders with the 144th overall pick
ending one of the most painful slides in NFL Draft history
As analysts tried to decipher his fall from grace
the theme that kept rising to the surface was that Sanders came into draft meetings unprepared
and his lack of humility was a major turnoff
Turns out the best quarterback to ever play the game tried to mentor Sanders and give him the same advice long before his slide in the NFL Draft
DAMN: TOM BRADY TOLD SHEDEUR SANDERS TO STUDY FILM AND STOP BUYING ROLLS ROYCES. Deion: “Do you think a college kid needs a Phantom, like a Rolls-Royce???”Tom: “I think he needs to get his a*ss in the film room & spend as much time in there as possible”pic.twitter.com/99oVvLdT8H
In the video Shedeur's father and college head coach, Deion, is imploring Tom Brady to tell Shedeur that buying a Rolls-Royce is ridiculous for a college kid and his focus should be on his craft
Brady told Shedeur to "get out of the car and get in the d**n film room." While everyone in the video is laughing about the whole thing
it all looks pretty bad now that Shedeur actually slid to the fifth round
Maybe in the future when the GOAT gives advice Shedeur will heed that advice

Many NFL players have been selected late in the draft and gone on to have successful careers
One of the most notable late draft picks is seven-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady
Brady was a sixth-round draft pick and did not start his career as a starter
Brady won six Super Bowls with the New England Patriots and one with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers
NFL Hall of Famer Michael Strahan revealed that he watched the NFL Draft with Brady
Strahan discussed what Brady said as they watched teams pass up on Sanders

it doesn’t matter when you’re picked,” Strahan said
Brady is a minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders
a team who showed considerable interest in Sanders leading up to the draft
Many were surprised that Brady and the Raiders did not draft Sanders
Strahan said that while Sanders may have fallen
he also believes the former Colorado quarterback is going to grow into a great player in the NFL
“Economically
but opportunity-wise it didn’t - because he’s on a team where I think he has a good shot at making a difference,” Strahan said
“And I think the kid is going to be a great player

The team traded for quarterback Kenny Pickett in the offseason and signed veteran Joe Flacco
Quarterback Deshaun Watson is returning to the team but is expected to miss the 2025 season
there were a couple of anonymous reports calling Sanders arrogant
These statements painted a bad picture of Sanders as a person
It is one of the believed reasons that Sanders fell to the fifth round
Strahan explained his displeasure with what was said about Sanders ahead of the draft

If you’re going to say something that bad to disparage a kid

It’s about numbers when it comes to quarterbacks.”
With so much uncertainty surrounding the Browns' quarterback room
even if Sanders is not the week one starter
he will possibly see the field at some point in the season
eventually proving himself and becoming an NFL starter
The Browns finished the season with a 3-14 record and have not reached the playoffs since 2023
They have had just four winning seasons this century
and Sanders can be a part of the turnaround for the franchise
Antonio Brown has always been a pretty controversial football star, but his second chance in the NFL came thanks to Tom Brady
AB recently took to Twitter to share an alleged private DM from the former New England Patriot
Their previous exchange is unclear when it comes to its timing
but it's a a much more positive interaction
"You are truly one of a kind! So proud of you," Tom Brady allegedly expressed regarding Antonio Brown. "love ya champ !!!
thanks for everything your presence a blessing," he replied

"PHYSICAL – you have mastered and it is easy for you to work hard

Indiana football secured a commitment from University of California, Berkeley senior transfer wide receiver Jonathan Brady on Saturday night, Brady told On3 Sports
Brady has one year of eligibility remaining.
Brady spent the 2024 season playing with quarterback Fernando Mendoza, who transferred to Indiana in December and is expected to start under center this fall
180-pound Brady caught 36 passes for 386 yards and three touchdowns in 2024.
Brady started his college career at New Mexico State University
Brady made 23 catches for 310 yards and three scores
recording 39 receptions for 621 yards and four touchdowns while adding another score on the ground.
Brady has logged 98 catches for 1,317 yards and 10 touchdowns
He joins an Indiana receiver room headlined by senior Elijah Sarratt
The Hoosiers lost senior receiver Tyler Morris to a season-ending knee injury during spring camp
Indiana expected Morris to play significant snaps in the slot
but his absence prompted the rest of the Hoosiers’ receivers to cross-train both inside and outside.
Brady played 456 snaps at wide receiver and only 30 snaps in the slot in 2024, according to Pro Football Focus
he saw 864 snaps at slot receiver from 2022-23.

Elaine Sciolino has some practical advice for first-time visitors to the Louvre: Never go on an empty stomach
She wasn't equipped with such knowledge when she visited for the first time while touring Europe on a budget in the summer of 1969
She was traveling with two Canisius College classmates
And that serendipity makes me love Elaine's new book all the more
noticed that she had written more about lunch with her dear friends than about their visit to the Louvre
(Photo courtesy of Gabriela Sciolino Plump)
Elaine knows that fortress turned palace turned museum with a singular intimacy
The same goes for her connection to its most famous resident
"We tread lightly with each other," Elaine says of the Mona Lisa
without all the protective glass and varnish that keeps us away from her
so we are left with an incomplete relationship
is a retired Paris bureau chief for the New York Times
She still lives there − an American in Paris
She is coming back to Buffalo on May 15 to talk about "Adventures in the Louvre" as part of the Larkin Square Authors Series
she plans to visit the Buffalo AKG Art Museum
"My mother had a 1952 powder-blue Plymouth
and she would pile us in and take us to the Albright-Knox," Elaine says
The new book is dedicated to her mother: "In memory of Jeannette Limeri Sciolino
Elaine's friendship with Kristin and Donna began when they worked on the Canisius student newspaper
Elaine would become a top editor of The Griffin
Elaine Sciolino could see the Niagara River from the living room of her family’s second-floor flat on Busti Avenue when she was growing up in Buffalo
Her father would tell her it was a view money can’t buy
The Peace Bridge loomed down the street and she often walked across it for ballet lessons in Fort Erie when she
I have learned to talk about anything with anybody," she writes
"from farmers and factory workers to presidents and kings
Elaine's mother schooled her early on about this notion of really seeing
She would ask her children to look hard at paintings by Géricault and Matisse and Monet at the Albright-Knox
"Look at ordinary things," her mother would say of the apples and knives of a still life
She covered the Middle East for Newsweek when she was the first American
She joined the Times in 1984 and covered beats such as the CIA and the United Nations before taking over the bureau in Paris
To be made a chevalier of the Legion of Honor is a high distinction of the French state; the award was established by Napoleon in 1802 for civic or military merit
France awarded it to Elaine in 2010 for her “special contribution” to the friendship of France and the United States
The Only Street in Paris: Life on the Rue des Martyrs By Elaine Sciolino Norton 294 pages
fine wine and locale for a half-mile stretch of street a Buffalo native calls home
In 2011 came her book "La Seduction: How the French Play the Game of Life." It is
"that rare book written by an American that French people could read to understand themselves."
Next came a pair of best sellers: 2015's "The Only Street in Paris: Life on the Rue Des Martyrs" and 2019's "The Seine: The River that Made Paris." (We told you about that one here.) "Adventures in the Louvre" completes what she calls her Paris trilogy
I wrote about a river and I wrote about a museum," she says
her river the Niagara and her museum the Albright-Knox
She hasn't been back since it reopened as the AKG
"I hope to come and see it in a different way," she says
"rediscovering a museum I have always loved."
“The Seine: The River That Made Paris,” was originally going to have a chapter about the Niagara
to have been titled “River of My Childhood.” “It just didn’t fit,” she says
“It’s hard to realize when you have to cut out so
forbidding place where she had an obligation to take visiting out-of-town friends
or for the crowds who always surrounded her
just a small painting of a silk merchant's wife
Elaine Sciolino poses with one of the Louvre's most famous residents
Elaine recently wrote a guest essay for the Wall Street Journal with the headline: "I Didn't Get the Fuss Over the Mona Lisa
and to the smile they call the most famous in the world
which is how she could charm a curator into allowing her that one-on-one with the one and only
Let's just say the Louvre is no longer purgatory for Elaine
and history to people who are interested in having a distraction from the incoming fire on this battleground that is our world today."
Which is not to say that Elaine is an expert in art history
There are already many books about the Louvre by people who are
She looks at the Louvre instead through the lens of a highly skilled journalist
My late sister earned a doctorate at the University of Toronto and became an authority on the short stories of Thomas Hardy
Donna earned a doctorate at Harvard University and became an authority on Elizabethan theater
Elaine writes in her book's introduction of remembering nothing about that first visit to the Louvre
but wishing she could claim she'd been moved by its majesty
"Kristin and Donna had studied art history with Thalia Feldman," Elaine says of the noted chair of the art-history program at Canisius
recently joined Elaine for another trip to the Louvre
but she was with us in spirit," Elaine says
"And she will always be a part of that extraordinary summer we had."
Elaine is currently on a cross-country book tour
in tandem with New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd
her friend from their time as metro reporters at the newspaper 40 years ago
Dowd told the standing-room audience that her parents had a reproduction of the Mona Lisa in the home where she grew up
She asked Elaine if Mona is great art − or overrated
and she is overrated at the same time," Elaine answered
Then she told how the painting only achieved true worldwide fame when it was stolen in 1911
(The Times headline: "60 Detectives Seek Stolen 'Mona Lisa,' French Public Indignant.")
the Mona Lisa is famous for being famous − like the Kardashians
came when Robert Kardashian was one of O.J
Elaine's mother became a painter herself after her kids were grown
She took art courses at the University at Buffalo and the Chautauqua Institution and converted Elaine's childhood bedroom into an art studio
"I had a strained relationship with my mother
"I was going off being a foreign correspondent and doing these dangerous things
My mother delighted in teaching Gabriela how to paint."
Gabriela's eulogy included a story: "One time
I learned there was more to art than what you see at first glance
you must look at it hard and interpret it in different ways."
That reminded Elaine of the time when the painter Beauford Delaney showed the writer James Baldwin how to see more than the water in a puddle
a veneer of oil reflected a city streetscape
she lets us see − really see — the many treasures of the Louvre

Barry Williams opens up about his iconic role as Greg Brady in The Brady Bunch
revealing why he struggles to shake off the character's lasting impact on his identity
who played Greg on the classic 1960s sitcom
shared his experiences during a panel at Hofstra University in Long Island on Sunday
"It was impossible to juggle the two identities
what you see with Greg was a guy that had younger brothers and sisters
You see somebody who's trying to make things work
Drawing parallels between himself and Brady
Williams explained there were some differences in the character
I never once threw a football at my sister’s nose
I never lost to my sister in a driving contest that was so late
I never would have lost if it wasn’t written in the script.”
he also shared that playing the character while growing up was challenging

Michigan recently landed a commitment from 2026 four-star QB Brady Smigiel
and he is now explaining his reasoning behind the decision
We have that and more in today’s Recruiting Roundup:
The Michigan Wolverines recently picked up a big commitment from 2026 four-star quarterback Brady Smigiel
He is the highest-rated player in the Wolverines’ 2026 class so far
and hopefully that commitment is the start of what will be a successful summer on the recruiting trail
Smigiel is the No 7 quarterback in the class
according to 247Sports’ composite rankings
As one of the top quarterbacks in the class
but the academics at Michigan are hard to beat
“There’s so much good going on at Michigan,” Smigiel recently told The L.A. Times
“The first thing that attracted me was the degree that you get and the alumni that they have there
I think it’s so impressive what they have going on there
“I also really love the people they recruit
They don’t recruit any guy that’s just running a 4.3 40-yard dash
I think that was just something that my family and I were really attracted to.”
Smigiel is confident offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey can develop him into an NFL prospect
“I think the offense just fits my skill set really well,” Smigiel said
“Coach Chip Lindsey was at North Carolina two years ago with Drake Maye
and I would say I have the same play style as him
so just being able to see what he’s able to do with guys with my skillset.”
Michigan is in a great spot with 2026 four-star cornerback Dorian Barney
and he has an official visit scheduled for the weekend of June 20
He even recently said that the amount of visits he has taken says a lot about how much he likes the program
“With Michigan, I’ve been up there twice this spring,” Barney told 247Sports’ Brice Marich ($)
Barney has spent a lot of time talking to Michigan defensive backs coach LaMar Morgan
and it sounds like they have formed a great relationship
the defensive backs coach (is the coach I talk with the most),” Barney said
I’ve been talking to him and I can really relate to him
I feel like I can take the coaching from him.”
After Barney takes his official visits this summer
we should hear more about a commitment date
He noted he ideally wants to get that done before his senior season
One target that will be committing soon is 2026 three-star defensive lineman Alexander Haskell
“First, wherever I go has to feel like home,” Haskell told 247Sports’ Brian Dohn ($)
you can tell who’s gassing you up and who’s being real
...I don’t want to go to a school I could already get into without football
I want to use football to get into a place I couldn’t without it.”
Michigan has the edge over Syracuse and Penn State when it comes to academics
but that isn’t the only thing he is looking for
“Do they see me playing across the line or just one position
Playing one spot means you know it like the back of your hand — but limits versatility come draft time.”
but we’ll have to wait and see if he sides with his hometown Nittany Lions

Days of our Lives actor Brandon Beemer was giving us all the feels as soon as we saw his character, Shawn Brady, on a one-way phone call last week with Hope (Kristian Alfonso), his mother, who informed her son that his father, Bo (Peter Reckell)
Any son would feel a certain amount of desperation and helplessness
which Beemer conveyed in Shawn’s watery eyes
but the actor brought an additional emotion to his scenes — guilt
Shawn shot Bo after mistakenly believing Hope’s life was in danger
So not only is Shawn devastated by his mother’s news
he’s also carrying remorse for committing the actions that led to his father’s current condition
Naturally, Shawn reflected on happier times with his dad during this difficult time. Beemer played these emotional scenes with incredible depth. “When I was a kid, my dad and I, we both thought that my mom was gone,” Shawn recalled to Jada Hunter (the terrific Elia Cantu)
ever let me see it,” added Shawn with the grateful perspective that can only come about when a person reaches adulthood
“He never wanted to burden me — just always made sure that we stayed busy
He wanted to make sure there was normalcy in our lives
Longtime DAYS fans recall this time in the show’s history that Shawn was referring to — when Bo and his son were attempting to move forward without Hope (damn you
You’d never know that Beemer didn’t play the part back then by the way he was able to recall that time as if he’d lived through it on-screen
Jada asked Shawn about when he and Bo lived on a houseboat together (back when Bo referred to Shawn as his “sailor.”)
“That was awesome…he and I would wake up and we’d go fishing,” Shawn recollected
we’d take the boat further out in the water and we’d go swimming
I actually think that’s when I learned to swim
He would just pick me up and toss me overboard
“But he would always jump in the water right after just to make sure that… just to make sure that I felt safe,” Shawn hastened to add
Beemer made the choice to catch himself after Shawn mistakenly referred to Bo in the past tense
When DAYS introduced the character of Jada, the show wisely tied her to the late Dr. Marcus Hunter (played by the late Richard Biggs)
This enables Jada and Shawn the ability to more easily bond over the love they have for their respective dads
Beemer had Shawn muster a smile after Jada’s pep talk but it’s going to take a while for Shawn to fully wrap around his head that he might lose his dad for a second time
“I just feel so helpless right now,” a vulnerable Shawn told Jada
There’s not a Bo and Hope fan out there that isn’t hoping that the motorcycle riding hero manages to cheat death yet again
(He was believed dead about a decade ago.) Fortunately
DAYS fans are never cheated out of watching great performances — Beemer’s solid work in these heart-wrenching scenes serve as a reminder of that

Seven-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady has called on the Birmingham City fanbase to throw their support behind the club’s women’s team ahead of Sunday’s promotion decider against Michele Kang’s London City Lionesses
The grand finale clash in the Women’s Championship will determine which second-tier side earns promotion to the Women’s Super League (WSL)
London City lead the title race with 42 points to Birmingham’s 40
but last weekend’s draw against Durham opened the door for Birmingham to leapfrog them on the final day of the campaign
The game is also a battle of sorts between American ownership and its recent investment in and influence on football across Europe
London City Lionesses were acquired in December 2023 by businesswoman and investor Kang
who also owns European powerhouse Olympique Lyonnais in France and the DC-based Washington Spirit in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL)
Birmingham, meanwhile, welcomed retired quarterback Tom Brady to its ownership group in August 2023. The 47-year-old has no day-to-day involvement in the club and holds only a 3.3 per cent stake with no voting rights
and they’re promoted to the Women’s Super League,” Brady said in a message posted from Birmingham’s X account
“They’ve worked so hard all year long for this moment
Last Sunday, a packed crowd at St Andrew’s saw the men’s side secure a 4-0 win over Mansfield Town. With 108 points, a record points tally in the English Football League (EFL), they had already earned promotion from League One into the Championship on April 8
“Now let’s pack that place again and get behind our women,” Brady added
“Let’s help them lift that trophy and bring home some hardware of their own.”
If London City avoid defeat on Sunday and maintain their place at the top of the table
their promotion to the WSL will be their first ever into the top-tiered English women’s league
their promotion will seal a return to the WSL for the first time since their relegation in 2022
Birmingham boast a proud history in the women’s game
winning the FA Cup in 2012 and reaching the Champions League semi-finals in 2014
Four-star quarterback Brady Smigiel, ESPN's No. 4 pocket passer in the 2026 class, has committed to Michigan
A 6-foot-5, 210-pound prospect from Newbury Park, California, Smigiel is the No. 45 overall recruit in the 2026 ESPN 300 and began the weekend as the cycle's No. 2 available quarterback. The former Florida State commit becomes the highest-ranked member of coach Sherrone Moore's 2026 recruiting class
Smigiel visited the Wolverines for the program's spring game April 19
"We just thought it was time to make the decision
I knew it was the spot for me," Smigiel told ESPN
"Being able to see the strength staff and how they handle the players -- the discipline within the program -- it was all really impressive."
With Smigiel's pledge, Michigan now holds two ESPN 300 commitments in the 2026 cycle after the February addition of four-star offensive guard Bear McWhorter (No
Michigan was a leading finalist for Smigiel's pledge in June when he committed to Florida State over the Wolverines, Ohio State, Oregon and Washington
Smigiel shut down his recruitment following his summer pledge and remained a cornerstone of the Seminoles' 2026 class through the program's 2-10 finish last fall before pulling his commitment in late January
Smigiel pointed to the offseason reshuffle of the program's coaching staff and a scheme change under first-year offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn as the primary drivers in his decision
"I just didn't feel like Florida State was that spot for me anymore," Smigiel told ESPN in early February
"I committed to Coach [Mike] Norvell calling the plays
Auburn, Michigan, Ohio State, South Carolina, UCLA and Washington emerged as early leaders in Smigiel's renewed process in February
and he later took unofficial trips to Washington

Mizzou’s QB for the past three years is getting his shot
Missouri football quarterback Brady Cook signed with the New York Jets as an undrafted free agent
per a report from NFL.com’s Tom Pelissero on Saturday evening
The deal was reported shortly after the conclusion of the 2025 NFL Draft on Saturday in Green Bay
Louis native and Chaminade grad who won 26 games as Mizzou’s starter over the past three seasons
will link up with teammate and right tackle Armand Membou
Membou was one of three MU players drafted
as Luther Burden went in the second round to the Chicago Bears and left tackle Marcus Bryant went in the seventh round
The lasting memory of Cook’s time in Columbia will be his resolve in the face of adversity and injury
he broke his hand in a game against Alabama
but returned to the field two games later and took the Tigers to a 10-win season and bowl win
Cook played almost the entirety of the 2022 season with a torn labrum in his shoulder
including a Cotton Bowl win over Ohio State
Cook likely won’t go down as the most talented quarterback in Missouri history
He will be remembered forever as the heart and soul of a team that won more games than any Mizzou team in a decade
weaknesses at MizzouPerhaps the most underrated part of Cook’s game over his Mizzou career was his ability as a runner
He is extremely athletic and seldom scared of diving head-first to move the chains
the Tigers used his running ability in a lot of goal-to-go situations
and frequently pulled out QB-draw plays to get him involved in the run game
he ran a 4.59-second 40-yard dash and a 1.53-second 10-yard split
both elite numbers among quarterbacks tested
He broke the SEC record for passes thrown without an interception
He also missed opportunities for big plays by overthrowing or passing up tighter windows to protect against turning the ball over
That contributed to the part of his game where he struggled most for much of his Mizzou career: deep passes
He struggled to find receivers on passes of 15 or more yards past the line of scrimmage
especially in his final season while frequently battling injuries
Cook was often exactly who MU needed to be
He led game-winning drives multiple times over the course of his Mizzou career
including a fourth-and-17 pass to Luther Burden III to help MU stay alive and beat Florida
and a 30-yard touchdown draw play to knock off Arkansas in his final home game

Cook registered more than 10,000-career all-purpose yards
He is the only MU quarterback in program history with more than 9,000 yards passing and 1,000 yards rushing
The quarterback’s best season with the Tigers came in 2023
when he threw for 255.2 yards per game with 21 touchdowns and five interceptions in 13 starts
He also rushed for 319 yards and eight scores
He appeared in 46 total games for Mizzou with 39 starts
He passed for 49 touchdowns and 14 interceptions

Brady was born to Harley and Barbara Allen on November 4
He worked as an English professor at a public university for many years
He made sure everybody knew about his love for the Pittsburgh Steelers
and Waylon Jennings through his dozens of ball caps and t-shirts.

the actress realized her character was not the sharpest tool in the shed
.css-az13ih{width:100%;aspect-ratio:3/2;border:none;}The discussion began at the 4:30 mark, right around when Brady was asked how he was different on the football field.
I treated every day like it was the biggest day
I treated practice...like it was the Super Bowl
There was never a moment that my teammates didn't feel like it was the biggest day
So I'd say my competitiveness on a daily basis to win was max effort all the time
Everyone in my team felt like when I walked in
I better sit up straight and pay attention (because if not)
they weren't gonna be a part of what we were doing
and all the guys that were competitive like me
Sainz then asked Brady when he felt he became a true leader in the NFL
But I would say there's a great word that I call it
'competitive stamina.' You're either competing or you're not
It just wasn't on...So I would treat a qualifying day like it was a race
because that's how I wanted to see whether people were gonna do it or not
A lot like Michael Jordan did and Kobe Bryant did..
"Michael Jordan was my idol growing up
because he was so competitive and I always find like
So it was almost like you volleyed the competitiveness
considered by many to be the greatest basketball player of all time
His competitive nature knew no bounds as has been documented many times
five NBA MVP awards and 10 spots on the All-NBA First Team
That Jordan-esque mentality clearly worked for Brady
who made 10 Super Bowls and left the game in 2022 as the most accomplished player in NFL history
He's a 15-time Pro Bowler and three-time NFL MVP who also won five Super Bowl MVP awards
Brady also left the game as the NFL's career leader in passing yards (89,214) and touchdown passes (649).
