Esposito attempted to kill another family member
The state’s attorney said that victim was his 16-year-old daughter who he pushed down the stairs to where her brother’s body was located
His daughter escaped their condo on Hemlock Road
Esposito supposedly told police that if they had not arrived and he could have found the baseball bat
“He also pushed his 16-year-old daughter down the stairs and admitted to police if he were able to get ahold of that baseball bat he would’ve killed her too,” the prosecutor said
He was taken into custody on Route 79 following a car stop with the assistance of the Connecticut State Police
He said his son disrespected him and he was hearing voices in his head telling him to get the baseball bat
“Parents are supposed to protect and nurture their children
Esposito brutally beat his son with a baseball bat
telling police his son was disrespectful,” the prosecutor said
he told investigators his son frequently stuck his middle finger up in his face
He added that he hears voices in his head of his mother and father
who he claims physically abused him as a child
He also told police that his mother recently committed suicide and that he has a history of mental health issues
His lawyer said Esposito has been in and out of psychiatric facilities and recently had not been taking his medication
“He has had mental health issues since the first grade
Multiple psychiatric hospitalizations while in childhood
His mother recently committed suicide and he does indicate physical abuse growing up,” his public defender said
Mental health experts detailed how this may have contributed to the incident
we might see instances when the person may blow up..
It seems like everything came up all at once and with the passing of the mom to suicide
we can only imagine that may have exacerbated the individual’s mental health,” said Fred Dombrowski
Esposito’s attorney wanted his bond lowered from $3 million to $1 million
If he is able to pay it he cannot have any contact with his daughter and has to stay at least 100 yards away from her
it blows you away,” said Paul Mancini of Branford
Mancini said word of the crime spread quickly through his condo complex
“I said ‘this place of all places?’” he said

Legendary saxophonist Branford Marsalis and his acclaimed ensemble, which together make up the Branford Marsalis Quartet, will perform in Shannon Hall at Memorial Union on May 1 at 7:30 p.m
in Shannon Hall at Memorial Union as part of the Quartet’s Belonging Tour and will close out the Wisconsin Union Theater’s (WUT’s) 2024-2025 Jazz Series.
known for its dynamic interplay and expressive artistry
and songs from its brand-new Blue Note Records album
“Belonging.” “Belonging” is a full album interpretation of Keith Jarrett’s 1974 ECM album of the same name
which introduced the pianist’s European Quartet
Three-time Grammy winner Marsalis has spent decades shaping jazz
His career has included performing with Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers
the Branford Marsalis Quartet is one of the most enduring ensembles today
The current lineup includes pianist Joey Calderazzo
“Branford calls this quartet ‘a chamber group rather than a jazz group,’ pointing to its focus on interpretations of historic masterpieces rather than the common contemporary expectation that jazz musicians are improvising and creating something completely new in the moment,” WUT Director Elizabeth Snodgrass said
“I also like to think it speaks to his lesser recognized but equally talented identity as a classical musician
making it a fitting choice for Branford’s new Blue Note album and tour.”
Tickets can be purchased online
in person at the Memorial Union Box Office
The performance will be preceded by a free studio class that is open for students to attend on May 1 at 1:30 p.m
in the Play Circle Theater at Memorial Union
The free studio class offers an opportunity for students to experience the Branford Marsalis Quartet in an intimate performance setting as the Quartet mentors student artists.
Patrons can join the WUT email list for the most up-to-date information and upcoming WUT season announcements at explore.wisc.edu/WUTheater.

one of the world’s most preeminent saxophonists
is now being recognized as a musician whose talent knows no boundaries
A peerless instrumentalist and bandleader in the jazz world
recent years have found him performing as a classical soloist with symphony orchestras
composing scores for major motion pictures and Broadway shows
composing a symphony for a full classical orchestra
and providing artistic leadership at the Ellis Marsalis Center for Music in the Ninth Ward of New Orleans
Along the way his work has garnered Grammy Awards
a Drama Desk Award and a citation by the National Endowment for the Arts as Jazz Master
the 1974 album that introduced pianist Keith Jarrett’s European Quartet of saxophonist Jan Garbarek
Marsalis admits that he was into other music when Belonging was released in 1974
“I didn’t know Belonging existed.” That changed once he shifted his focus to jazz
although he was only familiar with Jarrett’s solo piano music until pianist Kenny Kirkland introduced him to the Jarrett Quartet
“We were sitting on a plane sometime in the eighties and Kenny put his headphones on my ears and played [Jarrett’s 1979 album] My Song
When he tried to take the headphones back after five minutes I slapped his hand away; and when we got to the next city
I went out and bought every recording by that band.”
A similar discovery occurred when Marsalis decided to include “The Windup” from Belonging on his band’s most recent album
2019’s The Secret Between the Shadow and the Soul
“We were all listening to “The Windup” for the last record
and Revis said that we should just record Belonging
the whole album is so great and we could do things with it
The quartet applied Marsalis’ previous approach to classics by Charles Mingus
and others – neither slavish fealty to the originals nor extreme deconstructions
“On the composition ‘Belonging,’ I clearly played things that Jan played on the record,” Marsalis points out
“I didn’t try to reject the idea when it occurred
but at no point did we plan to consciously pay tribute
and the most impressive thing about Belonging for me is how it all fits together.”
which convened for the first time when it recorded Belonging and would only later become one of the signature groups of the 1970s
the Marsalis Quartet can call upon a rare history as a band
and their ability to hear and react to each other is unparalleled
Of equal importance to Marsalis is the lessons time has imparted
“The biggest benefit we have is 50 years of information that Keith’s band didn’t have
and our ability to process that shared experience
when we were about to record ‘Long as You Know You’re Living Yours,’ Justin asked me what our approach would be
we bring it more in the spirit of Donny Hathaway Live.”
The knack for respecting sources while producing performances that are completely personal is a hallmark of Marsalis and his band’s approach to all of the music they play
“Learning music is like learning languages in school,” he offers
“Learning in school can just be an academic exercise
which you realize when you go abroad and can’t speak the language
I tell students that the delivery mechanism in music is the simplest system in the world: There are only 12 notes
Miles Davis at any given point in his career was using the same system as Beethoven
Belonging is loaded with inspired performances
from Calderazzo’s opening piano improvisation on “Spiral Dance” through the title track featuring soprano saxophone to the collective rise and fall of the closing “Solstice.” There is also one more “Windup,” this time with vocal punctuation
“We were going to do the whole album and had to include ‘The Windup’ again
so we said ‘one take and that’s it.’ When I quoted the traditional New Orleans parade song ‘The Second Line’ the band shouted ‘yeah,’ which is the proper response.”
Marsalis notes that “The whole purpose of this group is to be more like a chamber group than a jazz group,” and in the process he has taken listeners along without compromising his approach
“All that any audience for any music wants is a great melody and a great accompanying beat” he explains
“It doesn’t really matter where our journey goes
While such recent efforts as his score for the Bayard Rustin biopic
his work on the film adaptation of Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and the Broadway musical A Wonderful World: A Louis Armstrong Musical have drawn growing attention
the Branford Marsalis Quartet remains the saxophonist’s priority
Everybody in the band shares a musical ideology
and when you have that you have the potential to develop
But to really develop you also have to play a lot
Everybody in the band is on board with the idea that we are actually trying to improvise
and not show off what we practiced last week
but when we do we can’t wait to start hitting again.”
The addition of the Branford Marsalis Quartet to the Blue Note roster could not be more fitting
A significant part of the label’s preeminence has been built on classic recordings featuring tenor saxophone
bass and drums by the likes of Sonny Rollins

New renderings have been revealed for 48-54 Branford Place, a 32-story residential tower in Newark
Designed by the Derosa Group for Branford Studios LLC
the 347-foot-tall structure will yield 441 units and ground-floor retail space
The Newark Landmarks Commission recently approved the development plan for the nearly half-acre L-shaped property
which is located between Washington and Halsey Streets
The aerial rendering in the main photo is oriented looking southwest and depicts the building beginning with a multi-story podium topped by a covered terrace with columns lining its perimeter
the tower rises uniformly with no setbacks up to a flat parapet
The façade will be composed of a grid of narrow floor-to-ceiling windows surrounded by white paneling
and numerous black balconies are shown spread at irregular intervals across all six faces of the tower
A roof deck and short bulkhead cap the structure
The following renderings preview the development from additional perspectives
showcasing its prominence over the predominantly low-rise neighborhood
The below rendering offers a closer view of the retail frontage and podium levels
which will all feature double-height windows
Floors two through five will house the building’s parking garage
The entrance for the parking facility is shown at the northern end of the base
The final rendering focuses on the tower’s array of balconies that wrap around the corners of every level and protrude in a staggered pattern from its broad face
The property is currently occupied by a two-story parking garage
as seen in the below Google Street View image
The surrounding structures are planned to be preserved
Homes in the new tower will occupy levels seven through 32
A portion of the cellar level will be used for retail space
The development is a 15-minute walk from Newark Penn Station
The site is also within walking distance of Prudential Center
A construction timeline for 48-54 Branford Place has yet to be announced

It’s a good infill tower for expanding Newark
That other new glass tower with slices cut out would make a good Yimby article
The other glass tower appears to be the Halo tower
which was written up in YIMBY when it topped out on February of 2024
have the developers aver walked around the area for a few hours and seen what the current environment is that they are planning to erect their structure in
I would probably live there for $800 month but
There would be NO way I’d let my daughter or wife live anywhere within 40 minutes of this area
I hope it gets built and they make Newark great again
but it needs to start with more than just glass skyscrapers
so great that there are all these new developments springing up
Newark and the area aren’t that nice
but there definitely are areas that are safe
I live less than 15 minutes from Downtown Newark
We have deers running through our front yard and it’s very safe
Stop being ridiculous with the generalization and bigotry
