You could be forgiven for forgetting that Union Berlin has existed this season
It feels like they’re been in purgatory all year
They’ve not been in any real relegation danger
but they’ve also failed to come close to contending for a place in Europe
Berlin’s been living in the lower-mid-table spaces
They have secured their Bundesliga status for another year
as they’re 11 points clear of the bottom three with three games to go
Die Eisernen are also 12 points away from 6th
so they don’t technically have anything to play for except pride and their own personal development
They’re in the midst of a seven match unbeaten run
which includes a crazy 4-4 draw against VfB Stuttgart
Their most recent contest was less eventful
as it ended in a 1-1 tie versus VfL Bochum
Benedict Hollerbach grabbed Berlin’s only goal in that game
and he’ll be the attacker supporters need to keep their eye on this weekend
He can create a moment of magic in the blink of an eye
and he’s secured a solid total of nine goals this campaign
Union might not be the most exciting team in the country
but they’re certainly one of the toughest to beat
Team newsBerlin are struggling a bit on the injury front
and Woo-Yeong Jeong all concerns for the contest
While Werder Bremen’s unreal run of wins came to an end last time out
they still have an unbeaten streak just like the opposition
as it was only the 2nd game to end without a goal from either side during the nearly four years that manager Ole Werner has been in charge
While they were a bit disappointed to have dropped points
they’re still right in the thick of the European picture
they’re technically five points off UEFA Champions League football
and the Green-Whites cannot worry about what’s going on elsewhere
If they can end the year with three more wins
then they’ll have a decent chance of qualifying for international competition
Oliver Burke has been their best forward as of late
but according to various rumors and reports online he has already agreed to a deal with a new club at the end of the campaign when his Bremen contract runs up
While everyone knows Burke is a true professional
and they can trust him to keep working hard like always
it would be a strange situation to see him lined up against his future employers
maybe another goal from the Scotsman would be exactly what this storyline calls for
Team newsLoanee Andre Silva is a doubt through illness
while Milos Vejlkovic remains unavailable due to injury.

The Floating Nomad Houseboat Rentals owner Rheanna Sinnett sits in the sunroom of one of the cabins at Otyokwa in Bremen
who established her business in Rangeley in 2018
is preparing her boats for their fifth summer on Pemaquid Lake in Bremen
Small Business Administration and celebrating her fourth anniversary of living in Bremen
Rheanna Sinnett is gearing up for another season on Pemaquid Lake
owner of The Floating Nomad Houseboat Rentals
is preparing to welcome guests to her boats Nomad and Roam for her fifth rental season on the waters in Bremen
“You come and you’re away from the hustle and bustle.”
renters can choose between staying on Nomad or Roam for a minimum of two nights starting Memorial Day through Indigenous Peoples’ Day in mid-October
The boats are equipped with everything a guest may need
with the expectation they bring their own groceries and toiletries
The boats are securely moored during guest visits
as guests are not authorized to operate them
Sinnett and her boats have not always called Pemaquid Lake home
as her business’s origins can be traced back to the waterways of Rangeley
Sinnett moved around a lot but refers to rural Maine as her family’s “home base.” In 1983
the family bought property in Rangeley and used it as a vacation destination until her parents retired there in 2005
Navy and was on active duty from 2003-2014
Sinnett helped her parents operate their business
which launched boats on Rangeley Lake from the dock on their property
It was through this venture that she became a registered Maine guide and a licensed boat captain
Sinnett said helping her parents made her realize she wanted to run her own business on the water
Although she was still settling into “civilian life,” she knew she wanted her future business to be based in Maine
“Rural Maine is just my heart … It washes your soul,” she said
“I knew that that was where I wanted to live
and it comes full circle because it’s where I want to bring people to share in that experience.”
After returning from a yearlong deployment to Germany in the summer of 2017
Sinnett said she had her mind set on the business she wanted to create
Her first idea was to buy a parcel of land from her parents on Rangeley Lake to develop tiny houses for rent
a series of events changed the trajectory of her life
Her father found the boat she would eventually purchase
a friend sent her an article about a boat builder and designer
the namesake of The Floating Nomad Houseboat Rentals
Nomad is one of two boats owned and rented out by Rheanna Sinnett
Sinnett’s business is based on Pemaquid Lake in Bremen
“It all kind of fell into place,” she said
like perfect combination of wonderful symmetry
Sinnett bought Nomad and worked with Keith to renovate it and convert it from a saltwater offshore craft to a freshwater lake boat
After living on Nomad for awhile to learn about the boat
Sinnett launched The Floating Nomad Houseboats Rentals in the summer of 2018 from the same dock as her parents’ business
she felt uncertain at first about how her business would be received
I’m just going to live on Nomad,” she said
and online reviews helped get the business off the ground
Sinnett said she knew she wanted to start the business with one boat available for rent
she enlisted Keith’s help with building another boat
Sinnett lived on the second boat for awhile before making it available for rentals
She said business picked up “exponentially” during her second season on Rangeley Lake
so much so that she had to turn away business because Nomad was quickly booked for the summer
and started renting it out in the summer of 2019
“That was when I knew we were onto it,” she said
until Sinnett and her parents had to close their businesses in Rangeley in the summer of 2020 due to unforeseen circumstances
While she was able to keep her boats on Rangeley Lake for the winter of 2020
Sinnett said she moved to Falmouth while she figured out her next move
She kept busy helping Keith build another boat
While looking for a new home for her and her boats
The Stirratts were fans of Sinnett’s business
and wanted to talk with her about bringing her boats to their camp on Pemaquid Lake
“It really is a special spot to call our home port.”
Sinnett runs her business in conjunction with the camp
She said people often rent both her boats and cabins on the site
The Floating Nomad Houseboat Rentals was named the 2025 Maine Veteran-Owned Small Business of the Year by the U.S
an honor Sinnett said she appreciates but did not expect
of The Floating Nomad Houseboat Rentals in Bremen
With the help of boat builder and designer Rick Keith
Sinnett built Roam and began renting it out as part of her business in 2019
That’s kind of who I am really … It’s what I love,” she said
She said one of her favorite parts of the rental season is watching her customers see the boats and the lake for the first time
“It totally rejuvenates me … It’s like me seeing it again for the first time,” she said
“Everything about it is just so special and to see someone else get excited about it … To me
One of her greatest joys throughout her journey has been learning from her parents
she saw firsthand what it was like to problem solve
really fun and it keeps you kind of agile and mentally excited … It was fun for them
and I saw that … And I was seeking that out,” she said
Sinnett credits her time in the Navy with instilling a great sense of responsibility and accountability in her
it’s important to be professional and diligent at all times
as the safety of her renters is of the utmost importance
and I think not only because we’ve thought through everything
but it’s just a simple experience by design,” she said
Her advice to those who want to start a small business is to just “do it.”
“You just find a way … You need your people that also believe in you

COLOGNE, Germany (AP) — Bayern Munich’s women’s team completed a domestic double on Thursday by beating Werder Bremen 4-2 in their German Cup final

which secured another Bundesliga title on Sunday
claimed its first women’s cup trophy since 2012

(WSBT) — Three Amish siblings between the ages of nine and 13 from the Bremen community are dead after their pony cart and a car collided Wednesday morning
The three children were riding in a pony cart on Fir Road when the cart collided with a car
Darrell and Devon Yoder were on their way to school
taking Fir Road with their pony cart as their neighbor says they do every morning
First responders arrived on the scene just after 8 a.m
A medical helicopter and an accident reconstructionist were called to the scene
where all three children were pronounced dead
All three children were pronounced dead on the scene
“I could see the police lights and everything and saw it looked like an accident and In the back of my head I kind of knew that I hadn't seen the Amish kids come down the road yet and go down the road onto to the school,” resident Katie told WSBT
She said she sees the kids in the same cart almost every day
adding that many pony carts or even kids ride their bikes either to school or in general
the first ones that are furthest out start
and then they just pick each other up and ride together
I saw three of them sitting at the intersection of Fifth and Fir this morning waiting for their friends that were in the accident,” Katie said
Katie said she sees a lot of car and buggy accidents in the area
you know you'll be going the opposite direction
and you'll see a horse spook at something and almost jump into your lane
It happens a lot and driving around them enough
you can see how easily it can happen,” said Katie
she explained that there needs to be more awareness of Amish buggies on the road
I've seen stickers going over the top of their slow-moving vehicle signs that impede it
They're taking carts that are intended for you know
use on a farm and putting them on the road,” said Katie
The Marshall County coroner confirmed the children’s bodies will not be sent for autopsy

Oliver Burke is set to join Union Berlin as a free agent when his contract expires at Werder Bremen this summer
The Scottish forward has been at Bremen since 2022 and 2024-25 has been his best season in German football
scoring six goals this term for Ole Werner’s side
Bremen had hoped to extend the contract of Burke
who played in the Bundesliga between 2016 and 2018 for RB Leipzig
said the club “regret” Burke’s upcoming departure and had been keen to retain the Scot due to his “strong performances” in recent weeks
The 28-year-old joined Bremen from Sheffield United and had subsequent loan spells at Millwall and Birmingham City
8th-place Bremen are in contention for European qualification next season while Union — currently coached by Steffen Baumgart — only confirmed their Bundesliga safety on Saturday
will join his new club in July following the expiration of his Bremen contract
The winger has also had stints at Nottingham Forest
It never quite worked for Burke at Leipzig
where he had difficulty adjusting to the club’s style of play
and while he has been associated with German football for some time
The most famous of all of those came in August 2022 when
with Bremen 2-1 down to Dortmund in stoppage time at the Westfalenstadion
he scored the second of two goals in two minutes to inspire an unlikely win
he scored a really well-taken double in Stuttgart ten days ago to secure a 2-1 win that has Bremen still on course for Europe
There have definitely been signs of progress
But he’ll swap the Weserstadion for Kopenick this summer and it feels like a good time to do that
Since the overreach that characterised their brief Champions League era — during which they made unlikely
ill-timed signings that upset their balance — Union have been undergoing a reset and Burke feels very much like an Union player
and the kind of nomadic reclamation project that they have tended to get the best from

SV Werder Bremen’s women’s side will become the first German women’s team to visit Vietnam
The DFB-Pokal finalists will travel to the country following the end of the season from 13th to 18th May 2025
writing more club history as well as marking a first for the Google Pixel Frauen-Bundesliga
The timing of the trip was chosen very deliberately: this year, Germany and Vietnam are celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. The German Embassy is therefore particularly looking forward to Werder Bremen’s visit
which represents a special highlight among the year-long celebrations

The trip is all about internationalisation: Vietnam is a strategic target market within SV Werder Bremen’s internationalisation strategy. The German Business Association and the Delegation of German Industry and Commerce in Vietnam are acting as partners in this endeavour. The aim of the trip is to further increase awareness of the Werder Bremen brand in Southeast Asia
while also promoting women’s football in the region
it offers the team and the entire club the opportunity to gain new perspectives
The focus will be on cultural exchange and strengthening the relationships built in Vietnam
which have recently been advanced through several delegation visits
the trip represents a particularly important part of the anniversary programme – alongside musical acts and a career truck touring the country – as it speaks to the interests of the main target group of the celebrations: young people

"Really disappointed in ourselves" | OneFootballSV Werder Bremen
found the draw tough to take (Photo: WERDER.DE)
Disappointment was written across the faces of the SV Werder Bremen players when the final whistle sounded in the German capital
The Green-Whites had been in control for the majority of proceedings away to 1
but ultimately had to settle for a 2-2 draw
WERDER.DE have summed up all the post-match reaction
Head coach Ole Werner: “Without beating around the bush
only drawing after being 2-0 feels like two points dropped
We played really well for 30 minutes but then Union changed the course of the match
We just weren’t able to capitalise on the spaces that opened up for us based on the score line
we defended well in and around the box but just failed to do so at two decisive moments
Goalscorer Jens Stage: “Everyone wanted to get the three points today – that was the aim of the team
The first-half performance was really good but after conceding shortly before the break
we knew the second period would pose a real battle
Union did really well and scored a great goal but it is a tough one to take.”
Captain Marco Friedl: “We have missed another opportunity to win a game and climb the table
We should have won here after taking the lead
We were really good in possession early on and Union didn’t know what to do
We should have killed the game off with a third goal but instead went into the break having conceded
so I can fully understand anyone who is frustrated after today’s game
I am personally really disappointed in ourselves.”
Managing director for sport Clemens Fritz: “We played really well for 35 minutes
controlled the game and played with intensity and aggression
Conceding from their first chance was disappointing
We then struggled more to find space in the second half and Union grew into the game
We have to settle for a draw in the German capital

Next up for the Boys in Brown is a trip to in-form Werder Bremen on Sunday (17.30 CET)
head coach looked ahead to the game with journalists at the pre-match news conference
...the injury situation: “We took Manolis Saliakas out of training as a preventive measure but he’s back now and will play if there’s no reaction tomorrow
Everyone else is available apart from Jackson Irvine
We’ll know in the next few days how long he’ll be out and when he can come back.”
...his attacking lineup: “We’ve switched things round in training and looked at what could happen
I’ll wait until after the session tomorrow.”
...opposition respect for our bouncebackability and good performances: “That’s what you fork for
Talking about playing ugly or being difficult to play against is one thing
and it obviously does you good when the results come with the performance
It helps the team go the next step in their development and it feels good
We have to stop going behind in games and it’d be good to keep a clean sheet again.”
...opponents Werder Bremen: “Before the reverse fixture I said I liked to watch their games because they have a clear structure and follow clear principles as to how they want to play
They play in a 3-5-2 and sometimes in a 4-4-2 depending on the situation
but they’ve come out of their sticky patch in the last four games
They’ve performed well and deserve to be up there
...playing last again: “If we play on a Friday and win
If the games on the Friday and Saturday go the way they did last week
you know you have a chance to round off a good weekend on the Sunday
It always feels good when we win our games
My assessment of the team is based on the way they’ve presented themselves in training
They’ve been going about their business in a very focused way and are determined to get a result at Bremen regardless of how the games go on Friday and Saturday.”
...the view that staying up is a mere formality: “I don’t intend to let up in the way I communicate with the team
so we have to keep our performance levels high
Everyone knows the last two rounds of matches were good for us because the other results went our way
It’s important for us to focus on ourselves and go the final steps
I know this group are very clear in their thinking and see things the same way
They all want to go that last step as soon as possible.”
Print Families looking to instill in young children a love for the stage will want to make Costa Mesa their destination this weekend
as Segerstrom Center for the Arts hosts the world premiere of a production created for kids
“Musicians of Bremen Live!” is a vibrant reimagining of a classic Brothers Grimm fairy tale “The Bremen Town Musicians,” co-produced as a collaboration between Belfast-based theater company Cahoots of Northern Ireland and the local performing arts nonprofit
the tale follows a quartet of musically talented animals — a hen named Ruffles
Bobcat and Coyote — who are fleeing the mistreatment of their human owners and must overcome their natural differences to realize their dream of becoming world-famous musicians
Segerstrom Center for the Arts co-produced “The Musicians of Bremen Live!” with Belfast children’s theater company Cahoots of Northern Ireland
(Melissa Gordon / Gorgeous Photography) Geared toward young theatergoers ages 4 to 8
the hourlong musical play takes place in the Samueli Theater with two afternoon shows on Saturday and Sunday preceded by an hour of free activities in the lobby
where kids can make their own prop instruments and try their own hand at storytelling
“Musicians of Bremen Live!” is a part of Segerstrom Center’s Family Series
designed to make live theater performances more accessible to young viewers
“There’s been a hefty amount of research showing when you have a child who’s experienced going to the theater by age 8
they are more likely to become theatergoers as adults,” Peterson said
“In the Family Series our shows are meant to serve younger audiences
The themes are specific to what families are working through in terms of a child’s development at that point in their lives.”
Cahoots NI Artistic Director Paul Bosco Mc Eneaney said he co-founded the theater company in 2001 out of a desire to create shows for children that were just as well-written
produced and staged as traditional offerings
If you couldn’t get work in the proper theater you went into children’s theater,” Mc Eneaney recalled Wednesday
We invest heavily in making work for young audiences that’s got all the production standards we expect as adults.”
the two organizations began discussing a production that would have its world premier in Costa Mesa
They discussed international borders — such as that between the United States and Mexico and the one separating Northern Ireland from the Republic of Ireland — and how people from different backgrounds live and work together in a common culture
“The Bremen Town Musicians” presented music as a perfect backdrop against which to portray a varied cast of animal characters struggling to harmonize to fulfill their dreams
“The Musicians of Bremen Live!” debuts at Segerstrom Center for the Arts on Saturday
(Melissa Gordon /Gorgeous Photography) “They can all play instruments
so there’s a disharmony for the first 20 minutes,” he said
“Disharmony suddenly becomes harmony only by listening
And that gives you an anchor from which to develop the themes we wanted to talk about.”
The result of that collaboration is a dazzling display that is sure to transfix audiences of all ages
who managed to catch a preshow performance for school audiences Wednesday
“Just seeing their reactions was so exciting,” she said
“That magic of a shared theater experience can only really happen in this type of setting.”

Milwaukee's comics head to Riverwest on Monday nights for one of the longest running comedy open mics in the city.
Eric Smith deputised for injured captain Jackson Irvine at home to Bayer Leverkusen and led the Boys in Brown to victory with an excellent display. In the run-up to the trip to Werder Bremen, the Swedish utility player took time out to speak to the media.
...the draw against Leverkusen: “We managed to come from behind for the third time in a row, so when you take a point against the German champions it’s always good. We’re definitely happy and are on the right track. It’s not over yet, though, and we need to get more points on the table. Hopefully we’ll be able to enjoy what we’ve created this season.”
...the comeback qualities of recent weeks: “Our performances have been better over 90 minutes. We’ve had to learn the hard way all season and that’s what’s built up to this. We’ve been able to come back because we’ve learned from our mistakes in the first half of the season when we played well but didn’t get the results.”
...captaining the team for the first time in the Bundesliga: “It’s an honour when the coach chooses you and I’m trying to pay him back the best I can. I’ve been captain before at this club, so I know how it feels and what it means, but I just tried to play my usual game.”
...Jackson Irvine’s comment that it’s the best Eric Smith he’s ever seen: “I hope not. I hope I’ll be able to perform better. I’m obviously very happy that he said that about me and I’ll just try to do my best every game.”
...his holding role: “I get more involved in the game and can perform better when I play in midfield, so it’s obviously a lot of fun at the moment. The role I had last year was different because we had the ball more, whereas this year at the beginning we didn’t have the ball that much. I’ve got more games under my belt now in that position and am starting to remember how to play in midfield.”
Eric Smith under challenge from Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz.
...the forthcoming trip to Bremen: “It’ll be tough. They’ve won four in a row now and have a chance to qualify for Europe, so they’ll try to win the game like we will. If we’re able to reach the level we had against Gladbach and Leverkusen, we have a chance of picking up points against Bremen as well.”
...the chance of staying up if Heidenheim fail to win at Stuttgart on Friday: “Whatever happens in that game, we need to win our game. It doesn’t matter whether other teams win or lose, we want to take all three points at Bremen.”
...the mood in the camp: “At the moment it’s very good because we’ve had some good results. We can’t afford to take a rest, though, because we need four more points from the last four games and we want to get them as quickly as possible. We’re in a good position, we know that, but we have to be careful not to get into the wrong energy. Everyone has to be focused on getting the points we need.”
...the run-in: “Now it matters the most. We have the experience from last year when we really had to push through into the last few games, and so a lot of the guys in the dressing room know what it takes. We’re trying to create the same mentality as we had in the last three games. I’m positive and I trust everyone at this club to know what we’re capable of and what level we need to reach to be able to get this done.”
BREMEN, Ind. (WSBT) — Scouting America Troop 733 in Bremen will host their 2nd annual all you can eat pancake and sausage breakfast fundraiser Saturday morning.
The event helps scouts raise money for summer camp and their upcoming trip to New Mexico.
The breakfast will run form 8 a.m. until noon at the Filbert Gold Sugar House.
You will also be able to purchase maple syrup that is made there, and enjoy a free tour of the process.
Tickets are $12 for adults and $5 for kids 10-years-old and younger.
All proceeds will go directly toward the troop.
After the scoreless draw at Werder Bremen the mood in the camp was one of disappointment due to the drop in performance in the second half. Here’s the pick of the post-match reaction.
Eric Smith: “We invested a lot in the first half and got into some good positions but we couldn’t finish off the attacks. We’ve made progress as the season as unfolded and today we again had a keeper who ensured we didn’t lose. They had some good chances and we had a bit of luck a couple of times but you have to earn your luck. Bremen can still qualify for the Champions League and we want to stay up, so a point away from home won’t do us any harm.”
Carlo Boukhalfa: “The performance in the first half was good, but Bremen were better in the second. They exploited the spaces well. The quality of the opposition shows when you tire a bit but we defended well, so a goalless draw is a fair result. The teams below us are picking up points, as we saw this weekend, so our work isn’t done and we can’t afford to let up. Against Stuttgart we’ll go flat out again to get closer to our target.”
The reigning champions, who lost 3-0 to Bayern Munich in their Champions League Round of 16 first leg on Wednesday, are on 53 points, with Bayern staying top on 61 despite their stunning 3-2 loss at home to VfL Bochum
Really bad day," Xabi Alonso told a news conference
"After the loss in Munich we wanted to be a bit fresher but it did not work
We will forget this game now and start believing again
It was too hectic and the chances were not clear chances," Alonso said
Visitors Werder, who had lost their previous five matches, took a surprise seventh-minute lead with Romano Schmid slotting in at the far post after a Leverkusen defensive error
Aleix García came agonisingly close to an equaliser for the hosts but his first-half stoppage time free kick bounced off the crossbar
To make matters worse for Xabi Alonso's team, who host Bayern in the return leg on Tuesday, attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz suffered an ankle injury in the 54th minute and the Germany international had to be substituted
Alonso said Wirtz had been taken to hospital for a scan and there was no information yet on the extent of his injury or if he would be fit for Tuesday's game against Bayern
what the result of the scan is and then we will have the information."
Despite some late pressure but only a handful of chances, Leverkusen could not find the equaliser and it was Werder, in 12th place on 33 points, who scored again, in stoppage time with Justin Njinmah

Pauli played out a goalless draw with Werder Bremen on Sunday evening to edge another point closer to Bundesliga safety
the Boys in Brown had more of the game in the first half
The home side came out stronger in the second
and a draw was a fair reflection of the proceedings
Head coach Alexander Blessin made one change to the side that drew 1-1 with Bayer Leverkusen
Noah Weißhaupt getting the nod over Connor Metcalfe
Werder boss Ole Werner also made one adjustment from the 1-0 home win over VfL Bochum
With Heidenheim winning by the only goal at Stuttgart on Friday evening
the onus was on the Boys in Brown to secure their first Bundesliga victory at Bremen
a result that would restore the eight-point cushion to 16th place and rule out the possibility of going down automatically
went into the game chasing a fifth win in succession to go level on points with sixth-placed Dortmund and keep alive their dream of qualifying for Europe for the first time in 15 years
In ideal conditions for football the two teams made a bright start and it was the hosts who fashioned the first chance with four minutes on the clock
Mitchell Weiser met Marvin Ducksch’s lay-off first time just inside the box
but his angled effort fizzed some distance wide of the far post
Philipp Treu played a one-two with Danel Sinani in the box but was denied by Michael Zetterer from a tight angle
Carlo Boukhalfa latched onto a long ball forward and slid a shot past the Werder keeper
he was a shade offside and the goal was disallowed
The Blessin XI knocked the ball around with assurance and made frequent forays into the final third
ensuring it was Sinani who had the next chance
allowing Zetterer to gather without too much difficulty
Werder were largely anonymous up front during the opening exchanges thanks to the high press deployed by Blessin’s side
Jens Stage did have an opportunity on 26 when he was allowed too much space from a Ducksch free-kick
but his sliding effort cleared the bar by some distance
With the home side tightening things up at the back
the attacking opportunities began to dry up slightly
Morgan Guilavogui collected a long ball forward and tried to tee up the advancing Treu
the home fans were celebrating when Stage fired into the bottom left corner from ten metres
but like Boukhalfa before him he was narrowly offside and the goal was chalked off
Boukhalfa had another go just before the break
but his effort from outside the box was way too high
Niklas Stark was allowed far too much space in the danger area from a Ducksch free-kick
but Nikola Vasilj pulled off a brilliant stop to keep out the header
The Boys in Brown hit back with two chances in quick succession
Weißhaupt had an effort from ten metres blocked at the last moment
and then David Nemeth angled a shot wide of the far post from outside the box
Bremen got the ball forward quickly to send Njinmah clear
but Vasilj was alert to the danger and made a decent save
the same player slid a shot just wide of Vasilj’s post
introducing Elias Saad for Noah Weißhaupt in an attempt to add more attacking impetus
His team continued to struggle to create chances
but in the 71sst minute Saad went to ground in the box under a challenge from Werder captain Marco Friedl
only for referee Tobias Reichel to wave play on
The initial contact may have been within the rules but the second caught Saad on the leg and Bremen could have had no complaints if a penalty had been given
With the game entering the final quarter of an hour Blessin threw on Robert Wagner and Connor Metcalfe for Carlo Boukhalfa and Danel Sinani
the home side thought they had broken the deadlock after a quickfire break and some excellent work by Romano Schmid saw substitute Oliver Burke curl a shot beyond Vasilj
but for the third time on the day the goal was ruled out for a narrow offside
Towards the end both teams lacked the punch required to win it
and after Metcalfe had been sent off for two bookable offences in stoppage time
Treu - Sinani (Metcalfe 75’) - Guilavogui (Eggestein 88’)

Bremen made 10 three-point shots in the first half alone
good for 30 of its 37 points across the first two quarters
“It started with our energy and focus,” said Bremen coach Alex Robinson of his team’s performance Saturday
“We’ve been waiting for this game for a while
I thought we came out on the defensive end and set the tone
When we’re locked in and focused on defense
the offense tends to take care of itself.”
Bremen surprised many people last year with its postseason performance
It was a run that instilled belief into a young program
“It’s just put so much confidence in all of us,” Kincaid said
With all-but one player returning from last season
Bremen is one of the more experienced teams in the area
as the Lions sit at 14-2 with three weeks left in the regular season
Its losses have come against Westville and Culver Academy
While Kincaid was the offensive leader Saturday with 20 points
Bremen has multiple scoring options on the floor at all times
Three players average more than 13 points per game in Kincaid (13)
junior Eliana Grubbs (13.4) and senior Kila Foster (17.2)
Junior Emma Lawmaster is right behind them with an 8.2 points per game average
“They’re confident in setting each other up to score as well,” Robinson noted
I’m glad I don’t have to gameplan against us.”

the Lions have moved down to Class 2A this season
facing teams more comparable to them in size
Heading into this past weekend, Bremen was the 11th-best 2A team by the Sagarin metric and sixth amongst teams in the northern half of the state
It’s toughest sectional foes appear to be Winamac (11-7) and LaVille (12-3)
Whitko and Bluffton loom as potential regional matchups
The sectional draw will be revealed Sunday
It will be a tough path for Bremen regardless of who it faces
“(The players) hold themselves to a high standard,” Robinson said
“I think we’re right where we want to be right now.”

The Oilers was the mascot name of Bremen High School athletics
Bremen High School was later consolidated into what is today the Fairfield Union School District — now home to the Falcons
But those outside of Bremen may not know that in the 1941-1942 basketball season
The Oilers lost in the finals of the state Class B tournament to Somerset 49-42
but the loss can't take away from the dominance that was Bremen basketball that season
the write-up of the game said that Dame Fortune had decided to no longer favor the Oilers
"All year she has been smiling kindly at Bremen
she hadn't been any too kind to a great team from Perry Co
She had sent it down to six bitter defeats
and Saturday night she determined to correct the wrong she had done them
a team would have to play two games in one day to do it
The Oilers had played Bluffton on Saturday
in the semifinals and the 33-31 victory took a lot out of them
was playing a Waynesburg team that had lost its two top stars and the game ended up being an easy 44-26
"Out of the tournament emerged Bremen's crack forward
as the greatest individual figure in the show
Jones' all-around ability and sharp-shooting placed him in Ohio scholastic basketball's Hall of Fame
Great as Bob Starkey of Somerset performed in the tourney
Jones didn't once have to take a back seat to the Perry-Co star," the article stated
Jones was named to the first-team All-Tourney list
while Lee Brown and Eugene Morehead were named to the second team
The Eagle-Gazette wrote about the Bremen team in the March 9
when it spoke with some of the surviving members of the team at the time
the entire town would come see us," said Jones in that 2008 article
a paper in Springfield had run a piece about the unusually large number of twins on teams playing for the title
One of the pairs was Ross Brown and Lee Brown
which the paper identified as twins — but the Browns weren't even related to each other
"That was a big laugh," said Ross Brown in 2008
he said that he and his teammates were like a family
"There wasn't a person on that team that wouldn't go overboard for the other," Ross Brown said
"Number one was the dedication that the team had
not only as a team but as individuals to the city of Bremen."
