he was never far from his parents' presence
and in his 18 years on the family farm in Kenney
He attended and graduated from Kenney School (Grades 1-8) and later was a proud graduate of Bellville High School Class of 1965
being honored as Sophomore class favorite and lettering in football
On a Saturday night in January of 1965 at a dance at Artesian Park
"the cutest girl he'd ever seen"
Several weeks later they had their first date to his high school football banquet where he received his letterman's jacket
It was a bold move on his part as Brenham and Bellville were arch-rivals at the time
imagine taking a Brenham High School Cheerleader to this event
He courted her for the next three years and finally scooped her up on August 4
They were blessed with 56 years of marriage
Donald attended Blinn College and graduated from Stephen F
Austin University in 1971 with a Bachelor's of Business Administration degree in Accounting
After graduation they moved back to Brenham
and they settled in their first home at 1502 Church Street
He began his accounting career with Otto Lehrman
which became Seidel Schroder and Company where he eventually became a partner in 1989
he immensely enjoyed interacting with his clients and helping them solve accounting problems
He also greatly enjoyed the camaraderie with all of his co workers
Christopher Todd in July 1971 and then Tara Lyn in September 1974
Donald was an active part of several local organizations
James Lutheran Church of New Wehdem however he was needed
He hated recognition and had no idea how much he was loved
he took over managing the family property in Kenney
and continued stewardship of the family land with the help of his cousin
The decision to retire was not an easy one
He loved the staff at Seidel Schroder and all of his clients
becoming the rancher/farmer we think he always wanted to be
he enjoyed his Thursday morning men's group
and a monthly card group with lifelong friends
He was a dedicated "Grandpa" to Chris and Tina's six kids and then became Charlee's beloved "Pa"
often biking with her to school in his cowboy boots
He adored his grandchildren and loved hearing every detail of their life
He also adored his children and loved talking to them
He loved and cherished every moment he spent with his wife until his death
His best day was spent outdoors tending cattle
He was happiest being with any of his family
and he was the best man we have ever known
Even though we know that he has moved on to a wonderful place
Donald held fast to his faith until the end and passed peaceful into the arms of his Savior on April 29
Donald is currently catching up with his parents
He will be looking after his family like he always did
his sister Alana Winkelmann and husband Norman of Brenham
his daughter Tara Winkelmann and granddaughter Charlee of The Woodlands
his son and daughter-in-law Christopher and Tina Winkelmann of Concord
and grandchildren William Winkelmann and his wife Michayla and great-grandson Hunter of Lufkin
nephews and extended family including his aunt and uncle

Brenham – Whenever you mention sweets in Brenham
Ice cream has been king in this town since 1907 but just a few miles from the factory known for homemade vanilla
you’ll find another sweet stop called Thomas Craft Confections
Jennifer Thomas and her husband Adam create the creamy cupcakes
and decadent chocolates that you’ll find here
They haven’t faced any problems from Blue Bell
who just made sure they weren’t trying to compete in the ice cream game
Their small shop was originally started by Cynthia and Sammy Timpa
Back then it was called the Bliss Candy Company
The toffee recipe was in their family for generations
and after enough people asked them to start selling it they realized that they were burning money by not producing it for the masses
Sammy and Cynthia’s small business did well but in 2021
they retired and turned the business over to Jennifer and Adam
The couple came to Texas to be close to family and happened to have culinary experience from around the world
including stops at high end hotels in Dublin and Singapore
The couple continues the tradition of toffee but has also expanded into other sweet ventures thanks to their years of experience
they can serve up whatever they want and that includes a savory selection on Saturdays like their flakey croissants filled with eggs
bacon and cheese that are marvelous on their own
People love it so much that they urge the couple to start serving coffee and opening up for breakfast every day of the week
and that includes a unique pastry with French roots
Jennifer’s favorite thing that she makes is called a cannelé
and it’s made with all the same ingredients as pancake batter
They bake in copper molds for an hour until they get crispy on the outside and soft on the inside
which starts with a big pitcher of distilled water
toffee isn’t incredibly complicated because the only other ingredient is butter
Once the water and sugar get up to 236 degrees
It gets spread onto big trays to cool and a drizzle of chocolate finishes off this long-loved treat
They’ll also have fun with the toffee here
you can’t leave this place without trying some toffee
it makes sense as you get the sweet taste of sugar with the luxurious texture of butter
So if you don’t get quite enough of a sugar fix on your next trip to Brenham
or if you want to grab something you can take home
make sure to stop by Thomas Craft Confections on The Texas Bucket List

Zach played for 2 years before returning to Texas and continuing his education at Sam Houston State University in the field of psychology and education.
Those that were fortunate to know him experienced his top talent of always making people laugh
smile and love everyone he met unconditionally.
He always wanted to know what was happening with everyone
what Padre was cooking for supper and asked about his niece
Darwa as she was normally called would jump up to greet him
