An apparent 'dog meat' stall set up in Bristol city centre(Image: Facebook/submitted)Shoppers in Bristol city centre were left shocked when they walked past what appeared to be a food stall - claiming to sell 'organic dog meat'
claiming to promote a butchers called Elwood's Organic Dog Meat
selling "free-range" dog meat from pooches that were "local and loved"
and had been "humanely slaughtered"
Among the offerings on the banner were Pug bacon
One passer-by was stopped in their tracks and left "disgusted" by what she saw, asking: "How is this even allowed in Bristol city centre?"
The banner featured a QR code through to a website for Elwood's Organic Dog Meat - which turns out to be a vegan campaign group
aiming to highlight the "ethical hypocrisy" of being appalled by eating dogs
While the website initially seems to promote "sustainably raised dog meat" and dogs being "bred for food"
it then encourages reducing or eliminating all animals from our diets
The website's homepage reads: "Why do you feel one way about dogs and another way about pigs
an animal that is actually smarter than a dog
"If you're feeling discomfort or reaching for excuses as you read this
Most people don't want to think about this at all
most of the animals you consume are just like dogs in all the ways that matter
Pigs are gentle with surprising intelligence
"Chickens are intelligent and sensitive to the welfare of their peers
Sheep are peaceful and can pick up emotional cues in humans
"Elwood’s Organic Dog Meat isn’t real
but we hope you’ll think about any anger it caused
Consider what it'd mean to open your heart to the idea that so-called "food animals" are just as worthy of love and kindness – and maybe that there is no such thing as an 'animal meant for food'."
After taking the time to peruse the website
the shopper in Bristol conceded that the company made a clever - if not "disgusting" - point
She said: "My son scanned the QR Code and saw it is an American-based company
I then started researching the size of a cow's brain and their emotions/intelligence towards humans
In fact, it is not the first time that Elwood's Organic Dog Meat has given shoppers pause for thought in Bristol. Last summer, the same pop-up stall appeared at the same spot in Broadmead
the food stall turned out to be handing out free samples of tofu - but this didn't stop some irate shoppers from demanding to know how the so-called butchers went about humanely slaughtering a dog

(Image: coldsnowstorm via Getty Images)Families are being cautioned about a council tax regulation that could 'penalise' those grieving the loss of a family member
An inheritance disputes solicitor has advised people to be aware of potential unexpected council tax charges on inherited properties
especially due to the 'second home' premium some councils might impose right after a death
most local authorities offer a six-month break from council tax on properties left empty following the owner's demise
and conveyancing often exceeding this timeframe
families may be hit with unforeseen expenses
The warning follows an incident where a council in England imposed a second home charge on an estate property
even though it wasn't being used as one
The usual six-month grace period was bypassed because the property was technically under the son's name at the time of the owner's death
leading the council to classify it as a second home
head of the inheritance disputes team at Lime Solicitors
criticised the council's action as "incredibly harsh." He commented: "It's deeply concerning to see councils imposing hefty council tax bills on grieving families who are already navigating the complex probate process
this isn't something I have seen before
especially when executors are actively trying to deal with the estate."
Dealing with the aftermath of a loved one’s death can be painfully slow, especially when it involves property. It often takes upwards of a year to get probate, arrange a sale, and wrap up conveyancing, reports the Express.
People need to be aware of the rules around council tax(Image: (Image: stocknshares via Getty Images))Article continues below“In most cases, it takes many months, often over a year, to obtain a grant of probate, arrange a sale and complete conveyancing. That means most families are already struggling with delays before they even get the chance to put the property on the market. If councils start piling on charges prematurely, it only adds to the emotional and financial stress,” he added.
“Families dealing with estate properties should proactively communicate with their local council to explain the situation and timelines. This can help in negotiating any available exemptions or reliefs.
"Additionally, if a property is expected to remain vacant for an extended period, renting it out might be a viable option to offset council tax liabilities, though this comes with its own set of responsibilities and considerations.”
This guidance is all the more crucial as the UK Government steps up its fight against second homes, attempting to ease the housing crisis, says the Daily Record.
From April 1, 2025, local authorities in England will have the power to double the council tax on furnished homes that aren’t a person's main residence. What started as an initiative to cut down on secondary residences in seaside locales, first introduced by Michael Gove in 2023, now extends further, affecting a bigger group of property owners.
Andrew commented: "This policy was designed to free-up housing, not penalise bereaved families. The loss of a loved one is already a challenging time.
"Families shouldn't be further burdened by unexpected financial pressures due to administrative oversights or rigid policies.
"It's imperative councils handle such situations with the sensitivity and understanding they deserve. Probate is complex enough without councils jumping the gun on tax."
Rex FeaturesPublished5 May 2025Bristol City wing-back Ross McCrorie says it is "incredible" to reach the Championship play-offs
The 27-year-old scored both goals in the 2-2 draw with Preston as the Robins earned a place in the play-offs for the first time in 17 years
Liam Manning's side will face Sheffield United in the semi-final
who have never won promotion via the play-offs
"We're not just here to take part," he told BBC Radio Bristol
The boys have got a winning mentality; we want to keep that up
give it our all and then anything can happen."
McCrorie says the fans running on the pitch to celebrate after the Preston game is "something that will live with me for the rest of my life"
to get into the play-offs and try and push the club up to another level," he said
"We've done that within 18 months since the gaffer came in

"Now we can go in with confidence and and enjoy these games
"We've got a confident bunch here with quality players
We'll give it our all and see what the outcome is."
The Scotland international said Manning treats every game "like a cup final" and the play-offs will be no different
"We've always had that mentality
so when we do need to be up for a massive game and the pressure's on
we're used to it," McCrorie added

113 CommentsA last-gasp victory against West Bromwich Albion on Tuesday
That was when Bristol City fans believed their team could finally finish in the Championship play-offs for the first time in 17 years
The players had long left the field and almost all of Ashton Gate had emptied - but the corner of the stadium known as Section 82 was still in full voice as dance anthem 'Freed From Desire' was played loudly through the stadium speakers
Haydon Roberts' 96th-minute strike had given City a 2-1 win against one of their then closest rivals
moving them four points clear in the top six and putting destiny in their own hands for the remaining matches of the campaign
Another five points from their final five games was enough to secure sixth place
It means that for the first time since 2007-08 under Gary Johnson
Bristol City now have the chance to win a first promotion to the Premier League
"That was the biggest game of some of the lads' careers, they wouldn't have played in such a pressurised game," boss Liam Manning said after Saturday's 2-2 draw against Preston North End.
"There's so much around philosophies and identities of dominating the ball and doing this
but our identity and our culture and what makes us so strong is our attitude
the belief we have - the behaviours are so strong
"That's what got it over the line
The lads have over and over again showed how much they want it in terms of their actions
Bristol City are one of only five teams in the 2024-25 Championship to have never played in the Premier League
With the Robins having earned promotion to the second tier a decade ago
only Preston - who were also promoted in 2015 - have spent as long an unbroken stint in the Championship without promotion
The past decade has seen Bristol City consistently become a mid-table side - eighth place in 2019 was the closest they had come to the play-offs when they finished four points behind Derby
Liam Manning was appointed in November 2023 and has been slowly building his team
Manning's appointment as head coach in November 2023 was not universally welcomed by fans
following the controversial sacking of Nigel Pearson
Manning is a young coach who has worked his way up the ranks from West Ham's academy
managing League Two MK Dons and was at then League One Oxford
but he was unproven at Championship level and cut from a different cloth than Pearson
"Let's turn the clock back: Nigel Pearson was a popular figure and Liam probably wasn't everybody's choice when he got the job," said former Bristol City midfielder and BBC Radio Bristol analyst Gary Owers
"To get into this position where the crowd really have jumped on board and been very
he's had to earn that and the only reason he's done that is by winning football matches and improving the position
he's put the hard yards in to earn his position and clearly he's worked his way through the divisions
"There was definitely a period early in his Bristol City career where he was adjusting to the level
but I think he's got that all worked out."
There was no bigger showing of how much supporters had taken the head coach as one of their own than following the death of Manning's baby son, Theo, in October, when the fanbase unified behind him
Manning later said he initially considered quitting, external his role in the wake of his son's death before deciding he had to get back to work
"I think that galvanised the whole club," Owers added
"We've seen the outpouring of emotion and support that he got from the supporters
and the team took that on to the pitch as well."
strong home form has been the foundation of City's surge up the table
They sit fourth overall for home form this campaign
Burnley and Sheffield United bettering them
Since Boxing Day they have lost only once at home in 13 league matches
"Making Ashton Gate more of a stronghold has probably been the main reason why they've improved from a mid-table team to potentially a play-off team," Owers said
is the smallest in the Championship with just 24 players used - Burnley have fielded 38
with an average age of 25 - only two players are 30 or over
Manning has been moulding the team into his own over the past 18 months
Luke McNally and on-loan George Earthy to become first-team regulars
But the budget is limited and stringent - no players were brought in during January much to the chagrin of fans.
Bristol City have the fourth-best home form of any team in the Championship in 2024-25
The club do not have a marquee striker or stand-out player
such as midfielder Alex Scott who was sold to Bournemouth in 2023 for a reported £25m
Anis Mehmeti (12) and Nahki Wells (10) - the latter who at 34 is the oldest player in the team - are in double figures for goals this season
but beyond them the goals are shared across another 15 players
Yet Wells stressed the tight-knit bond and consistency across the squad is what has proved the difference to help push them over the line
We're not solely relying on one individual to get the goals or make a huge difference," Wells has said
"Every week there's consistent performance
but in the big moments everyone's stepping up and that's what a team really is
and that's what we are as a team."
Owers similarly stressed that consistency across the board has been hugely significant
"You're probably right they're not going to sell anyone for £10m or 15m at the end of the season," Owers said
"I'd be keen to not underestimate what they represent as a team even though they haven't got that individual that every team would like to have."
Manning was reluctant to dwell too much on the play-offs until the team were over the line
his answer to what it would mean to take that step with Bristol City showcased the team spirit that two days later helped get them there
the decision I nearly made post what happened and it was the lads and the club that made me come back," Manning said
"It's been the toughest year of my personal life
But at the same point I think probably one of the most rewarding professionally
we're desperate to get it over the line and want to make it happen but worst case scenario it doesn't
it doesn't change what I feel of the players
"I think they're a terrific group of human beings firstly
Ending a 17-year wait to reach the play-offs is the first hurdle Manning and Bristol City have passed
The bigger test now comes with potentially three more matches ahead and a historic promotion to the Premier League on the line

The polling station refused to hand over a ballot paper without valid ID
A man has questioned why he was unable to vote in local elections after his bus pass was not accepted as a valid form of ID
Mike Frost from Bristol tried to use his West of England Combined Authority (WECA) bus pass to vote at St Martins Lane polling station
A total of 12 types of travel passes from around the UK are considered valid forms of ID
The Electoral Commission told the BBC polling station staff cannot allow people to vote if they carry a form of ID that has not been formally approved
Mr Frost had been trying to cast his vote in the WECA mayoral election on Thursday
He said the polling station "refused to let me vote
I was who I said I was and that I had proved this"
In total, more than 20 types of document are accepted, external, including passports, driving licences, older or Disabled Person's bus passes, as well as Oyster 60+ cards.
The WECA pass carries a photo of the user and permits them to use Bristol buses for free during the month of their birthday, but does not carry a date of birth.
The BBC approached the Electoral Commission, the independent body that oversees UK elections, about Mr Frost's concerns.
Its response confirmed "the Elections Act 2022 specifies the types of documents that are accepted forms of ID".
It added: "Under the legislation, polling station staff can not give voters a ballot paper unless they are able to show one of those forms.
"The list has been passed by parliament and cannot be amended by the Commission."

Artist's impression of public open space and play area within the Bower Lane development in Bridgwater(Image: Thrive Architects)An MP has blasted the 'unacceptable' proposal to construct 750 homes adjacent to the M5
submitted plans in October 2023 for a significant development between Bower Lane and the M5 at Bridgwater
The firm presented revised proposals for the site following a viability assessment that determined providing over 200 affordable homes on the site is not feasible
After a public meeting was met with a backlash from local residents, Conservative MP Sir Ashley Fox penned a letter to Somerset Council, urging them to reject the plans
claiming they would 'place an intolerable burden' on Bridgwater's population
The proposed site is located at the northern tip of the East Bridgwater allocation
between the Polden Bower special needs school and the Strawberry Grange development
where Countryside Partnerships is currently constructing 260 homes
If greenlit, the new homes will be built in three stages
A new primary school is set to be built near Bower Lane, with a target completion date around July 2030. This coincides with the occupancy of 556 new homes as part of the development phases two and three, reports Somerset Live
Newly-elected Mr Fox shared his opinions in a letter addressed to Councillor Mike Rigby
who holds the portfolio for economic development
Mr Fox said: "While I am not opposed to development in principle
properly planned and backed by the local infrastructure that local residents and future home-owners will rely on
this proposal falls far short of what is acceptable."
As per the requirements of the Sedgemoor Local Plan
any housing project proposing ten or more homes should include 30 per cent as affordable housing
This translates to 225 affordable houses within the new scheme
primary school and community facility on Bower Lane in Bridgwater(Image: Thrive Architects)Nonetheless
a viability assessment conducted by Alder King suggests that adhering to this mandate might not be economically feasible given the land's value
there's a possibility that the developer could propose fewer affordable homes or even none
pursuing a profit margin that aligns with their investment
Mr Fox declared such a situation "unacceptable" and said: "If developers overpay for land
then they should bear responsibility for that rather than expect[ing] the taxpayer to pay for the vital services that should accompany major developments
"If the scheme is truly unviable without proper community investment
then it is the wrong scheme for this site."
The council's bid for £7.8m for new school places in eastern Bridgwater and NHS Somerset integrated care board's plea for £418,000 to ease the strain on local GP services have hit a roadblock as the developer refuses to foot the bill
Meanwhile, Mr Fox has slammed the local authority for how it's managed recent major roadworks, warning the planned developments will only add to the daily traffic snarl-up East Bridgwater residents battle via Bath Road and Westonzoyland Road.
Drawing attention to the potential gridlock, he said: "Residents already face daily congestion entering east Bridgwater via Bath Road and Westonzoyland Road, and this development would only make matters worse.
"There must be a serious and deliverable plan in place - fully funded by the developer - to address the cumulative impact on local roads."
Artist's impression of spine road within the Bower Lane development in Bridgwater(Image: Thrive Architects)He also flagged up the necessity of factoring in the associated disruption from another nearby housing project, adding: "The plan must also consider the combined effect of this proposal alongside the nearby Folletts Farm development."
Traffic woes look set to continue with the construction timeline of the key spine road linking the homes to the A39 Bath Road stretching from September 2026 to March 2029, which will see southbound cars funnelling through Strawberry Grange estate towards the fresh roundabout connecting the A372 to the looming development of 530 houses at Folletts Farm on Dunwear Lane.
Bower Lane is set for a revamp to become a haven for walkers and cyclists, complete with cycle lanes along the adjacent spine road.
However, local criticism flares as Mr Fox highlights the council's poor track record with infrastructure projects.
"The council has already demonstrated through its recent conduct - such as scheduling works at the Dunball junction and the A39 at the same time - that it struggles to coordinate major infrastructure works. It is critical that the mistakes of the past are not repeated."
Phasing plan for 750 homes, primary school and community facility on Bower Lane in Bridgwater(Image: Thrive Architects)He urged for comprehensive traffic and planning analysis, calling the current proposal "unacceptable" and a threat to locals' quality of life.
Adding to the voices of concern, East Quay Medical Centre, a primary healthcare provider for Bridgwater residents, opposes the development on grounds of limited capacity.
Practice manager Rachel Stark's statement paints a grim picture: "We are not able to absorb the increased patients resulting from this or any other development within our local area."
She details how services are already stretched thin: "Our existing physical infrastructure and our operational funding cannot accommodate any increase in patients.
"Our services are already overstretched, with waiting lists being longer than we would like, and further patients would put patients and staff at risk."
Bridgwater Town Council has already cast their votes against the proposed plans, with Bridgwater Without Parish Council set to make its own formal recommendation later in May.
The final verdict on the matter is anticipated to be delivered by Somerset Council's northern planning committee come autumn.
Stephen is one of more than a hundred pro-Palestine volunteers in a resident-led campaign that has knocked on every door in the Easton and St Paul’s areas of Bristol
“What door knocking can do is shake you from the slumber of any feelings of helplessness that you might have when you see what’s happening in Palestine,” he tells Middle East Eye
A volunteer from the Bristol Apartheid-Free Zone Campaign
which has signed up over 1,800 households to a pledge to not buy Israeli fresh produce
It aims to create a mandate that encourages high street businesses to join the boycott.
Nearly 50 shops and businesses stocking fresh produce have joined so far
and the campaign boasts a 50 percent sign-up rate among those who open the door
which the campaigners say is an “unprecedented” rate for door-to-door canvassing
solidarity with Palestine is the overwhelming norm
so a big part of the campaign has just been trying to make that solidarity public and visible,” Stephen says
The campaign strategy has been drawn from Bristol’s history of anti-apartheid resistance, being inspired by the success of the St Pauls Apartheid-Free Zone
that campaign organised a local boycott of goods linked to South African apartheid that was influential in spurring nationwide boycotts by various retailers
The campaign also builds on a climate of growing local animosity toward Labour Party policies in Gaza, which former MP Thangham Debbonaire has blamed for the loss of her Bristol Central seat to Green Party Leader Carla Denyer in July 2024.
But the strategy has gained momentum across the UK
with similar Apartheid-Free Zone campaigns beginning in Cardiff
“Most of the people involved in door knocking aren’t people who have any prior experience doing political canvassing
and many wouldn’t even call themselves particularly political people,” explains Stephen.
“It never fails to amaze me how quickly people pick it up
It’s really just people speaking in a sort of neighbour-to-neighbour capacity.”
The campaigners are realistic about the prospects of affecting large-scale change through a local boycott alone
but say the campaign is part of a broader effort aimed at changing “local norms”
and making “supporting Palestine the common-sense
The campaign has received support from prominent local Green Party councillor and community-leader Abdul Malik
and has also won praise from Green Party leader Carla Denyer
“I’m proud to support the Bristol Apartheid-Free zone,” Denyer told MEE.
“I don’t use the term apartheid lightly, but tragically it is an active reflection of the atrocities being carried out by the Israeli State.”
"The movement to boycott Israeli goods is a global tool for ordinary people to put pressure on the Israeli government
withholding financial support for a state systematically denying Palestinian people their rights,” she continued.
Labour MP for the Bristol East constituency at the centre of the campaign
didn’t respond to Middle East Eye requests for comment enquiring if she supports the campaign.
The campaign has slowly been gaining momentum since May 2024
following a community meeting where various campaigning strategies aimed at raising awareness on the Palestinian issue were discussed
“A lot of those ideas were to do with taking action in the workplace
but the nature of my job doing research doesn’t really relate to that kind of action,” says Penny
“Others involved taking forms of direct action
which have my full respect but didn’t feel like something I could participate in at the time.
“Starting a doorknocking campaign for a community boycott was something everyone could participate in
and I think that’s part of why it’s grown so much.”
The campaigners stress that their methods are aimed at supplementing other forms of protest and are not designed at detracting from other strategies
the Bristol campaign should not be understood as a strategy that inhibits more radical forms of protest.
“We see what we’re doing as starting the conversations that help people in the community understand why other people think they have to take such radical action
“We see it as a complementary and crucial part of generating a mass resistance to the genocide.”
Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) campaign lists a broad variety of target businesses
including multinationals such as Coca-Cola and McDonalds
the Bristol Apartheid Free-Zone focuses solely on Israeli fresh produce
“We chose to focus on Israeli fresh produce because that was something really tangible and winnable and that can include everyone - especially for shopkeepers and restaurants who might sell a lot of products from Coca-Cola and have bigger margins on those,” Penny explains
“Then after getting businesses on board with that
we’re aiming to facilitate them to start stocking Palestinian alternative products too.”
Not all businesses were immediately keen to join the boycott
'A challenge at first was some businesses being cautious about being the first to stick their head above the parapet by putting posters up'
volunteer, Bristol Apartheid-Free Zone
“A challenge at first was some businesses being cautious about being the first to stick their head above the parapet by putting posters up
even if they were already boycotting Israeli goods privately,” says Stephen.
going back to the community on the doorstep has been able to slowly show them there’s real support for the boycott among their customers
The campaign has been helped along by Bristol’s strong culture of independent high street businesses
who have been more willing to get involved
A key moment for the campaign was when the prominent local supermarket chain Better Food joined the boycott
“That was really a moment that showed other smaller businesses across the city that it wasn’t going to cost them customers
and that it was becoming new norm really – and not just something that Muslim-owned businesses were doing,” Stephen adds
The campaign has received support from the community union ACORN
who offered training sessions in “deep canvassing” methods.
“Deep canvassing isn’t about coming in with an instant sell,” Penny says
we approach by asking 'how do you feel about what’s happening in Gaza?' and 'what’s the main issue with for you?' and just giving people an opportunity to speak about it.”
what we’ve experienced is that people want to talk but might just have no outlet to express it,” Stephen adds
Stephen and Penny say that they’ve felt benefits from being involved too
“It gives you that feeling of agency that it’s very easy to not feel,” Stephen says.
“I personally find myself being constantly humbled
inspired and made to feel hopeful by how people you meet at the doorstep articulate what’s going on
are horrified by it and have a real understanding of what’s at stake.”
Bristol went to the polls on 1 May to elect a new Mayor of the West of England Combined Authority (WECA)
ended up finishing third with 20 percent of the vote
just five electoral points behind Labour’s winning candidate Helen Godwin on 25 percent and Reform’s Arron Banks on 22

“It will be the widest selection of English wine put before a public audience,” he said
Guests at the festival can sample over 40 wines from 15 vineyards, alongside local gins, rums, ciders, and regional delicacies such as Bath Soft Cheese. “English wine is a fantastic product and needs to be more widely appreciated,” Mr Eynon said.
Tickets, available via Eventbrite, include tasting notes, a glass, and complimentary canapés served by volunteers. The railway’s buffet will be open for meals and hot drinks, and a raffle will run on the night, all in aid of the Bounce Back Appeal.
With 30 tickets already sold, the team is aiming for 200 attendees, which would add around £4,000 to the fundraising total.
Looking ahead, more events are planned. A wine and cheese pairing evening is on the cards for summer, followed by a ‘Pop-Up Indian’ five-course dinner on Friday, September 19, and a family-friendly Railway 200 celebration weekend on September 27 and 28.
Mr Eynon is confident that brighter days lie ahead. “We believe that in 12 months’ time we will be in a much better place both financially and strategically,” he said.
“We are midway between Bristol and Bath, and we are an easy find and a great place to visit.”
For Mr Eynon, the heart of the railway remains its people. “We have 150 great volunteers and staff. Watching our crowd, I quite believe government statistics that say volunteering adds 15 years to your life,” he said.
And his message to the community is one of deep gratitude and encouragement. “We are really, really grateful and appreciative for all the donations and kind messages. If you can't be a volunteer, join us as a member and get to feel part of our ‘family’.”

Bristol Rovers have sacked Inigo Calderon less than 24 hours after the end of the season
Rovers were relegated from League One following a dreadful run that saw them take just one point in their final 10 games
Former Brighton star Calderon was appointed in December on a two-and-a-half year deal
the club said: "Bristol Rovers can confirm that Inigo Calderon has departed his position as Men’s first team Head Coach
who has been assisting in the coaching department since March
"Everyone at Bristol Rovers would like to thank Inigo and Miguel for their hard work
dedication and commitment and wish them both every success in their respective future careers
Calderon also posted a statement on social media and said: "This is my time as Bristol Rovers manager. It has been a true honour and pleasure to have been part of this great club, obviously without the results I would have liked and that this club deserves, but still the pride and clear conscience of having tried everything possible to achieve the best.
"Boxing Day at Exeter, the first home game on New Year's Day, my family celebrating from the stands, the first win at Cambridge, the unconditional support in away games, and especially the games played at the Mem are unforgettable moments that I will always remember.
"I've always said that a club is made great by the fans and the people who work behind the scenes, and this club is giant.
I can only reiterate my gratitude to the entire Gasheads family
His final game in charge was a 4-1 defeat to Blackpool on Saturday
a ninth loss in their last 10 to end the season
Their relegation had already been confirmed on Tuesday with Burton's draw with Wigan
It was Calderon's first job as a first-team manager
having previously led Brighton's under-18s
The 43-year-old replaced Matt Taylor in December with the club 19th
Rovers will be joined in League Two next season by Shrewsbury
Birmingham went up to the Championship with a record 111 points
and Leyton Orient will fight it out in the play-offs
The Championship playoff positions have been confirmed after Saturday's results
meaning we now know the four teams vying to join Leeds United and Burnley in the Premier League for next season
On a dramatic final day of the Championship regular season
five teams went into action battling to secure the two final playoff spots
with Sheffield United and Sunderland's third and fourth-place finishes in the table confirmed
Bristol City's 2-2 draw against Preston North End and Coventry City's 2-0 victory over fellow playoff hopefuls Middlesbrough mean that Coventry
managed by Premier League Hall of Famer Frank Lampard
who have never played in the Premier League
secure the sixth and final playoff spot place with 68 points
The playoffs involve the four teams that finish directly below the automatic promotion places
with the clubs who finish third to sixth in the Championship after 46 matches competing for that coveted final Premier League spot
The two-legged playoff semi-finals pit the third-placed team against the side who finished sixth
while the clubs in fourth and fifth will also meet
The teams that finish third and fourth will have home advantage in the second leg
The winners of those semi-finals will face each other in the playoff final at Wembley Stadium on Saturday 24 May to determine who will join the top two in being promoted to the Premier League

Having a soft spot for a sauna, I have to say I am very happy that Bristol appears to be in the middle of a sauna boom
Several have opened recently, including in a farm in South Bristol and one in inner-city Easton
And one I have been keen to try for a while is the Bristol Community Sauna at St Anne's House
I couldn't help but feel it is one of those places everyone in Bristol (or maybe just my friends) is raving about at the moment
I had never been to the charity-run building in Brislington yet
so when I had a free afternoon earlier this week it felt like the perfect time to give it a try
The booking itself was very straight forward and quick
and there are plenty of sessions to choose from during the day - including lower-capacity sessions and silent ones
I went for your box-standard "sauna and cold plunge" session at 2pm
I have to admit I was slightly late - getting into the sauna just after 2.15pm - so I was happy there was still an hour left to go
The sauna is tucked away to the side of the building
but finding it was easy as it is well signposted
There is a large area with several cubicles to get changed in
But it wasn't until I went outside that I truly felt in love with the spot
Despite being right by busy St Anne's Road
the Bristol Community Sauna makes you feel miles away as it is bordered by a cliff edge on one side and the main building on the other
There is also plenty of greenery about and a small water feature
I wasn't able to hear the cars while I was there
but was rather busy when I visited; there were about nine or ten of us at some points so it was a bit of a squeeze
I was the only woman there at the time - but this didn't bother me at all either
I can't last very long in a sauna - and this one was going up to nearly 100C at some points - so I had to keep going in and out to cool down in the cold bath
I sat down in one of the chairs in the sun - making the most of the sunny day to dry off
the only thing that was missing was some proper sun loungers
but I would have been equally happy to lie down on the floor to sunbathe
I can see why everyone is raving about this place; I will certainly be back - hopefully very soon

She claimed the staff "made no attempt" to understand her situation, saying she may have had a premature baby, meaning the pumped breast milk would be critical for its health.

We’re not trying to upset you." The mum-of-three replied: "Well this is very upsetting for me

“Why should I have to use space in an already small baggage allowance to carry equipment that is essential to me as a breastfeeding mother

and that travelling potentially costs more for me because I’m breastfeeding."
The government website states that: "You can carry breast milk in hand luggage even if you’re not travelling with a baby."
It also says you can travel with unlimited amounts of breast milk provided that "individual containers of breast milk must hold no more than 2,000ml.

An easyJet spokesperson said: "We are very sorry for Ms Crawford’s experience while boarding her flight as this is not the level of service we expect.
“We advise customers to carry baby milk in their cabin baggage and do allow customers an additional free of charge bag for a breast pump and milk. We ask them to let us know in advance of travel so there are no issues at the gate."

167 CommentsBristol Rovers have sacked head coach Inigo Calderon following the team's relegation from League One
Burton's draw with Wigan on Tuesday confirmed Rovers' return to League Two following three seasons in the third tier
His final game in charge was a 4-1 defeat by Blackpool on Saturday
a ninth loss in 10 matches to end the campaign
First-team coach Miguel Llera has also left The Memorial Stadium
Calderon was appointed on Boxing Day but Rovers only won six of his 26 games in charge and they finished 22nd in the table
The former Brighton & Hove Albion defender was appointed on a two-and-a-half-year deal
with the club 19th in the table and three points above the drop zone
The Bristol Rovers job was Calderon's first in a first-team managerial role
with the 43-year-old previously being manager of Brighton's under-18s team
back-to-back wins against Huddersfield and Bolton saw Rovers move nine points clear of the relegation zone
but a torrid run of eight defeats in nine games followed to drop them into the bottom four
Calderon wants Rovers stay despite relegation
Bristol Rovers and Crawley relegated from League One
who was sacked in early December after a year in the job
the issues that Taylor's team struggled with at the start of the campaign persisted under Calderon
Rovers' tally of 44 goals scored is the fourth-lowest in the division - with 25 scored during Calderon's tenure - and the manager's plight was not helped by the loss of strikers Chris Martin and Promise Omochere to season-ending injuries in early March
The club also sit bottom of the table for away results
Under Calderon there was only one away win in 12 league matches
Calderon had consistently been honest in his assessment of the side and last month said the team were playing like "a League Two side".
We knew it was my first chance in senior management and the fact I am not getting success has been frustrating for me," Calderon said following their defeat by Reading
"But at the same time I sleep well in terms of I think I am trying to do everything possible - you cannot imagine the hours I try to put in to make this team stay in this division
It still hasn't been enough so maybe I have to do better
Inigo Calderon's short tenure as Rovers' head coach has been a difficult one for him
He was so excited to get the chance of his first senior job in football management he spent Christmas away from his family in Spain to prepare
And while there were definitely some games where he - and the team - showed some real promise (back-to-back wins over Huddersfield and Bolton in a run of five home wins in seven games) their awful finish to the season sealed his fate
He certainly made mistakes during that time
with some of his substitutions leaving fans scratching their heads
But potentially the biggest issues he's faced weren't of his making
Rovers' owner, Hussain AlSaeed, told us this season's playing budget is the largest in the club's history
and while plenty of the players recruited in the summer are undoubtedly talented
the blend of a lot of youngsters and a handful of very senior players wasn't right
with all his senior strikers having had significant injury issues
they didn't sign an experienced player as cover
And with just five goals scored in their past 10 games
that decision probably cost Calderon his job and Rovers their place in League One
Rovers have confirmed that nine players will be leaving the club when their contracts expire this summer
scored 13 goals in 113 appearances in two-and-a-half seasons with the Pirates
Romaine Sawyers and Jerry Lawrence are all departing
forward Jevani Brown and goalkeeper Matt Hall are also being released
will continue his rehabilitation from a knee injury with the club
A one-year contract extension has been trigged in centre-back James Wilson's deal

An annual festival celebrating walking and its health benefits has returned.
Bristol Walk Fest is holding more than 400 walks throughout the month of May, run by more than 70 organisations.
Many of the walks are free, and most are themed – with topics including everything from the Blitz to the Bristol Bus Boycott, fossils along the river Frome and Victorian medicine.
Karen Lloyd, the festival's director, said: "With a choice of free walks every single day of the month, you're bound to find something to pique your interest."
There are also options for those with specific accessibility needs.
Among the history-themed walks are routes titled 'Blackbeard to Banksy' and '1831 Bristol Riots: A City in Flames'.
Those more interested in nature than history can join groups exploring Steart Marshes nature reserve, and the Failand bluebell trail.
The festival also includes walking versions of rugby, football, cricket and tennis, and Nordic walking, which involves the use of poles to move the upper body.

The festival began with a panel discussion on the benefits of walking for wellbeing and mental health.
Those who took part included Bristol Rovers player Taylor Moore, Claire Allen, who helped raise £25,000 for homelessness charities by walking 5,000 miles around Britain and Orla Hennessy, founder of Girls Who Walk Bristol.

Zak Vyner has had loan spells at Accrington
Rotherham and Aberdeen while at Bristol City
Bristol City centre-back Zak Vyner says his side "can't ignore" their position in the table heading into Saturday's final game of the regular season
The Robins are fifth in the Championship and will guarantee themselves a play-off spot should they beat relegation-threatened Preston North End at Ashton Gate
"I think everybody knows what the aim is now," Vyner told BBC Radio Bristol
We're not sitting here going 'who knows?' We obviously know what the aim is
but we just have to make sure we've got the right mindset and the right focus on the day."
Play-off football against either Sheffield United (who will finish third) or Sunderland (fourth) would be the first time in 17 years City have finished in the top six
They beat Crystal Palace 4-2 on aggregate in the semi-finals in 2008 but came up short in the Wembley final

Create 'party atmosphere' at Ashton Gate - Manning
Promoted Leeds celebrate by thumping Bristol City
Bath-born Vyner was in the Robins' academy at the time and attended the 2008 final as a boyhood fan
Now 27 and a mainstay in the City team this season
he could find himself back at Wembley 17 years on
playing on this stage'," he recalled
I was a fan so I was just taking it in as much as possible
"We've obviously had a lot of football this year
so the mindset's been 'roll on to the next and just keep it rolling'
so I haven't had too many moments to sit there and reflect on it
"You have to be aware of the occasion and aware of the opportunity and it would be amazing to get it secured."
Liam Manning's side could have confirmed a play-off spot on Monday but were thumped 4-0 by champions Leeds United at Elland Road
But Vyner believes there is still something to be taken away from the drubbing
"That's the level that we want to be getting to," added Vyner
"We've done that to teams this year as well
"We didn't put our best foot forward and we've got to make sure that we take the clean
tactical aspects that they had and they implemented on the game
We take that into firstly Saturday and hopefully beyond."

"This is actually our mine and my husband second time being at the event to be honest I really didn’t know that all of that about it before my son got into it and then got into the motor and then once he’s got into it

Bristol Rovers signed off from League One with a performance that summed up their season perfectly
taking the lead before falling to a 4-1 defeat away at Blackpool on the final day
The opening stages of the game fit up to its bill of 'dead rubber' with Blackpool unable to secure a play-off spot while Rovers were already relegated
an error from goalkeeper Harry Tyrer allowed Gatlin O'Donkor to slide the ball into the back of the net to hand the visitors a rare away lead
Inigo Calderon's side controlled the majority of the proceedings but couldn't quite find the final bit of quality to create a goalscoring opportunity
They then shot themselves in the foot as a short clearance from Jed Ward was recycled by Albie Morgan
playing in Niall Ennis who forced a decent save but the parry fell into the path of Tom Bloxham for a tap in to equalise
Blackpool then put themselves into the lead 10 minutes into the second half as Rovers failed to clear a loose ball with Morgan eventually bundling home
The Gas regained control of the proceedings as Romaine Sawyers and Ollie Dewsbury both struck efforts before substitute Michael Reindorf forced a good save from Tyrer just moments after coming on
Rovers were then caught cold on the break with Niall Ennis adding a third goal to put the result beyond doubt before substitute Ryan Finnigan scored the sloppiest of the four from the visitors' perspective
Here's how we rated the players as the Pirates ended the season with a whimper ahead of their return to League Two..
Won't be pleased with his involvement in Blackpool's opener
It's never a good day when you've conceded four goals
An excellent first half display but struggled to maintain that level in the second period as Bristol Rovers capitulated
Looked excellent on the ball in the first half and got in behind a couple of times too
Also played better in the first half than the second but made some big blocks
Got caught out twice in the first half with a teammate having to cover for him
Never looked comfortable and may be suffering from a lack of confidence after losing his place coincided with a couple of under par displays
He will have learned a great deal from this loan spell
Had a shaky start but grew into the game and kept his left hand side largely quiet and solid
Certainly a contender for Rovers' man of the match on a poor day overall after an excellent first half display
protected his backline with confidence and tried to get the players ahead of him moving where he could
A mixed bag of performances during his loan spell but
Another whose assumed lack of confidence was quite evident
Picked up the ball in good spaces and carried it on occasion but didn't hurt Blackpool enough with the final ball
A summer where he can recharge and reset will be vital because the attacking midfielder showed in League Two last season that he can be a real asset at that level
Ends his Bristol Rovers loan spell with four goals in 32 appearances
closed down the space and won the ball back a few times
A real poacher's goal to hand his side the lead
what a moment for the teenager and his family as the 17-year-old academy graduate made his first start for Bristol Rovers
It was also a decent performance from the youngster who looked tidy on the ball
The biggest compliment I can offer the young striker is that he did not look out of place in a men's League One match

A few decent moments but part of a side that capitulated
Looked more intent on scoring a goal than keeping them out at the other end

Runners are raising concerns over signs in downtown Bristol that they say could pose a danger. (WCYB photo)
BRISTOL, Va. (WCYB) — Runners are raising concerns over signs in downtown Bristol that they say could pose a danger.
The signs in Bristol, Virginia, which state "skateboards, roller skates, bicycles, others on wheels or runners are prohibited on sidewalks," have left many runners confused and upset.
After the group "We Run Events" posted a picture of one of the signs, city leaders reached out to clarify that the ordinance refers to items like sleds with actual runner blades.
"It could be very dangerous cause a runner would think, and I would, I'd think I can't well I can't run on the sidewalk," runner Hank Brown said. "I'll go run in the road and get hit by a car so I don't think the city of Bristol meant it that way so hopefully they'll change the sign."
"I understand the concerns," City Manager Randy Eads said. "The intent of the sign was not to prevent runners from running on the sidewalk. You know, if one reads the entire ordinance, it was simply for the safety of people who are using the sidewalk to have ingress and egress to stores downtown. Runners are more than welcome to run on our sidewalks anytime that they want to. We are going to change those signs."
Eads said the city will change the signs as quickly as possible, but did not know when exactly that would be completed.

Bristol Rovers have confirmed that head coach Iñigo Calderón has left the football club following the conclusion of the 2024/25 season
The Gas signed off from League One with a performance that summed up what has been a grim campaign away at Blackpool on Saturday
losing 4-1 having taken the lead in the first half
Calderon was appointed as Matt Taylor's replacement on Boxing Day
joining from Brighton and Hove Albion where he had been manager of the Seagulls' Under-18s
and offered promising early signs in his first senior management role
Performances improved and the Spanaird steadily started to guide Rovers away from the relegation zone
they were nine points clear after six wins and two draws from his opening 15 matches in charge
the Gas picked up just one point from their final 10 matches which saw them plummet down the table and into the bottom four with their relegation eventually sealed on Tuesday
Bristol Live understands that the recruitment process to find the 43-year-old's replacement is very much already underway as the club seek an instant return to the third tier next term
It also means that Calderon is the third permanent manager to leave Rovers in the past 18 months
The Gas have also confirmed that coach Miguel Llera
"Bristol Rovers can confirm that Iñigo Calderón has departed his position as men’s first team head coach," the club said in an official statement
"Everyone at Bristol Rovers would like to thank Iñigo and Miguel for their hard work
"A thorough process to recruit a replacement is underway and the club will be making no further comment at this time."

Gatlin O'Donkor gave Rovers the lead after a bright start
The Gas looked comfortable until a cheap giveaway from Jed Ward led to Tom Bloxham equalising before the break
Albie Morgan then gave the hosts the lead early in the second half before Michael Reindorf came close to equalising moments after coming on as a substitute
late goals from Niall Ennis and Ryan Finnigan saw the Gas capitulate as Rovers said farewell to the third tier
A fitting game for how the season has gone for the Gas
Substitute Ryan Finnigan nudges the ball over the line
Crawley Town are winning 2-0 at Shrewsbury Town
At least they've gone down while showing some fight
Just as Bristol Rovers were looking likely to force an equaliser
but Reindorf rises highest to the resulting corner
Michael Reindorf curls an effort towards the bottom corner but it's well saved
What an introduction that would've been
Romaine Sawyers lines up an effort that is blocked by a huge slide by a Blackpool defender
The ball is then recycled with Ollie Dewsbury forcing a save from Harry Tyrer
Gatlin O'Donkor and Clinton Mola have been replaced by Romaine Sawyers and Lino Sousa
The latter returns from injury for one last appearance in a Rovers shirt
Rovers can't deal with a ball into the box and Albie Morgan hands Blackpool the lead
A result here would be a nice way to end such a dim season
Such a soft goal to concede from their perspective when it was going so smoothly
Blackpool on top now as Taylor Moore has to clear at the back-post for a corner
The crowd were deathly quiet but are more up for it now
The goalkeeper plays a pass straight to Albie Morgan
Niall Ennis cuts inside and forces a good save from Ward but he parries straight into the path of Tom Bloxham who has a tap in
The defender looks like he'll be able to continue
Just has to wait before being allowed back on
Players are taking water on but the defender looks to be in some pain here
Rob Apter drills a decent effort but Ward shifts to catch well
ending with Wilson of all people getting into space and seeing a cross blocked behind

drives and opts to shoot from outside the area
He made good contact but it was always rising

Blackpool goalkeeper Harry Tyrer takes a heavy touch and Gatlin O'Donkor slides the ball into the net
Taylor Moore puts in a cross from deep towards the back post which Hutchinson meets but he can't direct the ball on target
The ex-Rovers loanee got a head on the ball but his effort was nowhere near the target
That cross could have gone anywhere...until it was headed out
Rob Apter tried to pick out Niall Ennis who would've had a tap in but it was good goalkeeping from Ward
Sil Swinkels gets down by Tom Bloxham but the striker's touch is too heavy with Connor Taylor getting back to make sure the ball goes out for a goal kick
Taylor Moore intercepts a loose touch from Hayden Coulson and charges up the pitch
He tries to play in Ollie Dewsbury but the teenager is knocked off the ball but wins a corner
