How else does one explain the phenomenal and head-shaking running of Canyon High junior Addyson Bristow at the 2025 UIL State Track and Field meet on Thursday
Anchoring Canyon’s state-record setting 1600 Relay
Putting on a performance in the conversation for the greatest day an Amarillo-area athlete has ever put together on the track at the state meet
Bristow’s three gold medal performance was the catalyst in Canyon finishing with 45 team points and runner-up to state champion Brownwood (64 points) in the Class 4A team competition
Canyon coach Ray Baca said his comment is meant as no disrespect to any runner or arrogance but “certain people have that special mindset
Success for Addy isn’t her winning but setting records
She is extremely laid back and the nicest person
But when she’s about to step on the track she’s Clark Kent and steps out of the phone booth and becomes a Superhero.”
Those running against Bristow will agree 100 percent with Coach Baca
Bristow’s running style is to go out fast and quickly build large leads
But instead of coming back to the field eventually like a lot of runners do when using this strategy
the two-time defending 4A cross country state champion buries the competition leaving everyone else racing for second place
And it doesn’t matter if it’s a regular ol’ March meet in Canyon on a windy day or against the best the state of Texas offers like on Thursday
Bristow started her day off running the 800-meters in a state-record time of 2:07.19
eclipsing the mark of 2:09.81 set in 2009 by Simone Brinkley of Dallas Madison
her next closest competitor four seconds behind and she won by just under seven seconds
Next up was the 1600 meter race where Bristow ran a state-record 4:48.64 signing her name to the state record previously held by Kelsey Johnon of Iowa Park at 4:54.73 set back in 2008
This time Bristow led by 18 seconds midway through the race and won by just under 20 seconds over Randall’s Brooke French
a quick turnaround after the 1600-meter race many runners refuse to try and pull off because of fatigue
Bristow and Canyon teammates Brooklyn Kinsey
Reese Wilson and Sydnee Winfrey won in a 3:48.89
setting the state record previously held by Waco La Vega in 2013 at 3:49.75
Bristow ran the anchor leg taking the baton in a close second and moving into first by the end of the first curve
“Just motivation that this was my last race with my team and I was really excited to celebrate after,” Bristow of her motivation to run the 1600 Relay
I know it all came from the love of my teammates and I really just wanted to do it for them and score as many points as I possibly could and leave knowing I couldn’t have pushed any harder.”
Bristow’s state medal haul is becoming insane as she now owns two individual gold medals for cross country and then at the state meet two individual silver medals
two gold medals for and three individual gold medals for her running
Bristow’s teammates where strong in the 1600 Relay as well with leadoff senior Kinsey
freshman Wilson and senior Winfrey each ran their fastest legs of the year
“You have to go out with a bang on your last one
That’s what we have been talking about all our hard work and putting it out there
We did our job and came in every practice and got better
That was our goal at the end of the year and we did it.”
Said Kinsey: “The leadership as a senior is a lot different than when you are a freshman
So this year has felt heavier of a weight on how we take care of our teammates and how we lead by example
So in the end to know we did the best that we possibly could
we have worked so hard not only this year but every single year to get the confidence we have and now we get to be excited and hopefully pass down the legacy
We like to set high standards for our team and individually
it wasn’t just win but let’s set these records
Baca said placing second behind Brownwood in the team race was not a disappointment
“We set a personal record in the 3200 (Avery Brown)
our pole vaulter was hurt (Hadley Johnson) so she did her best (finishing 8th)
we had a PR in the 300 hurdles (with Kinsey) and all four in our mile relay set personal records,” Baca said

Nate Oats ain’t done beefing up the interior
and this is a far more important player than you’d think
As part of the Tide’s continuing evolution towards a more balanced roster
Nate Oats reeled in a tremendous transfer today with the signing of the WAC freshman of the year
The 6’8” swingman was one of the bright spots for TSU this season
and doesn’t have too bad of a stroke for a bigger player
What is striking about his game is how well he both moves without the ball
and his ability to put the ball on the floor and create his own shot
Last season we lamented that the Tide didn’t have a Chaney Johnson-type player who could bridge the bigs and the shooters
and Bristow’s commitment is quietly one of the best pickups of the portal season for a Tide team looking to score at all three levels
it is an Alabama team that had to improve its defense from the outside-in
as far too many forwards had big nights last year driving into the lane
Just as Houston Mallette is the tweener type who spans the divide between wings and guards
Bristow bridges the gap beween wings and bigs
and he has the potential to be a hella’ important player opening up the court in all sorts of ways
while also providing backside help and mid-court shot defense
Addyson Bristow left no doubt as to who is the best half-miler this year
The senior from Canyon set a blistering pace hitting the 200m in 0.31 seconds and the 400m in 60.34 and came back with a 66-second final lap
Bristow's winning time of 2:07.19 broke a 16-year old State meet record by over two seconds
It was her second straight 800m State title
She was a heavy favorite heading into the race and never gave anyone a chance to even think about winning the race
Keitenn Bristow bet on himself last spring when he committed to play basketball for Tarleton State
announced via X that he is transferring to Alabama where he plans to become an integral part of the Crimson Tide program
More: Will Alabama basketball have chance at landing transfer Cedric Coward after Duke visit?
Bristow was named the Western Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year after averaging 11.3 points and 4.4 rebounds in 26.3 minutes per game
He ranked among the top 40 in the nation among freshmen in points per game
The Crimson Tide have emerged as one of the top programs in the country under head coach Nate Oats
advancing to at least the Elite Eight in the past two seasons
It’s the most sustained success in program history
Bristow was a three-time Red River 22 honoree during his high school career
earning Most Valuable Player as a senior at Holliday after leading the Eagles to the Class 3A state tournament
He averaged 28 points and 10.1 rebounds as a senior with the Eagles
Bristow played his first two high school seasons at Rider before transferring to Holliday for his junior and senior years
Bristow wasn’t without his options with fellow SEC school Ole Miss showing strong interest
Syracuse was another program that made a strong pitch to the former Holliday and Rider standout
Colorado and Texas Tech also showed considerable interest

“Homosexuality kills people almost to a degree worse than cigarettes
… These [pro-gay rights] groups are complicit with murder.” — Quoted in the Spartan Edge
an alternative newspaper at Michigan State University
He was president of the Young Republicans Club at Chippewa Valley High School and has voiced anger about a perceived leftist bias in the local schools
he read the 2003 book, Treason: Liberal Treachery from the Cold War to the War on Terrorism by far-right attack dog Ann Coulter
which he says inspired a turning point in his political views
During his freshman year at Michigan State University (MSU)
Bristow was elected president of the campus conservative group Young Americans for Freedom (YAF). He also won an unopposed seat on the student government council
He quickly posted his 13-point agenda as a student representative
a sophomoric document saturated in hate that included capturing undocumented immigrants in the area
cutting school funding for non-heterosexual groups and giving more representation to men and whites on the student council than others
The council recalled Bristow in a landslide vote after he refused to recant his agenda or resign
But the young firebrand succeeded in sparking plenty of national publicity during his two years as president of YAF
He planned a “Catch an Illegal Immigrant Day,” which drew national attention but was later canceled
He led a “straight power” rally in front of the Lansing City Hall to protest a proposed 2006 law to protect gays
lesbians and bisexuals against bias based on sexual orientation
“End Faggotry” and “Go Back in the Closet.” In a news release to publicize the event
Bristow wrote: “YAF members find homosexuality and other forms of sexual deviancy to be disgusting
and the American public need to be protected from these degenerates.” Under Bristow’s leadership
the campus YAF group also held a “Koran desecration contest.” Based on these and other bigoted acts and statements
the SPLC began listing Michigan State’s YAF club as a hate group in 2007
a journal that publishes racist articles and hosts periodic national conferences attended by a variety of hardline nationalists that has included neo-Nazis
former Klan leaders and other open white supremacists. Inviting Taylor was a step too far for the national YAF group
In a February 2008 post on the website of American Renaissance
Bristow disclosed that national YAF had threatened to revoke the campus’ charter if the local group hosted Taylor
he complained that “YAF does not officially recognize multi-culturalism as a threat to the United States” and railed against “cowards at the university and in ‘conservative’ organizations.” Nevertheless
Bristow resigned from the MSU chapter and Taylor’s lecture was cancelled
making them the true “Native Americans.” In Bristow’s version
these whites were massacred by darker-skinned late arrivals
He dedicates the book to “the real Native Americans.” Its publication was hailed by the white power movement as a bracing inspiration for future recruits to their cause
The hero/narrator of the book wants the Solutrean theory to come to public light
But first he must squash the evil “Center for Diversity and Multiculturalism,” based in Atlanta
which maintains an active legal staff and “hate group list,” just like the SPLC
But Bristow gets even more personal than that
Two of the fictional group’s staff members are clearly modeled on former SPLC Intelligence Report editor Mark Potok and Heidi Beirich
(Beirich’s name is rendered as “Beirman” in the book
curly haired troll.” The Potok character is assassinated in a grisly and meticulously described scene.) When asked about the apparent targeting of Potok and Beirich
saying in an email to the SPLC beginning “Dear Guttersnipe” that he meant nothing of the kind
A new edition on Amazon combines this nonfiction work with the earlier novel
Bristow appeared to be dropping under the radar as he took up work at a regular day job with the France Law Group in Toledo
He began to actively seek female clients whose nude photos were posted on online “revenge porn sites” by vindictive ex-partners
He got two of the sites shut down on behalf of clients
and then was interviewed about his efforts by the Wall Street Journal and television’s Katie Couric
Although many observers were surprised by Bristow’s activity helping people
he may have shown his real interest when he characterized revenge porn as a manifestation of liberalism and claimed that the majority of its victims are white
Bristow left to open his own law practice in the Detroit suburb of Clarkston
where he billed himself online as an expert in internet law and “able to assist law school graduates who are going through the character and fitness” test required before sitting for the Michigan and Ohio bar exams
(Bristow is still licensed to practice law in both states.)
In Dec. 2013, Bristow publicly teamed with Dan Poole, a recent college graduate and activist with the white supremacist American Freedom Party
to create the Center for the Advancement of Occidental Culture
The new group’s mission was “to advance and defend Western civilization” and oppose alleged discrimination and harassment of European-Americans
asked for original articles for its website and financial contributions
the two founders dissolved the new group as a limited liability corporation (Bristow was its chief legal officer
according to a blog post by the Anti-Defamation League) and its website went dead
Bristow described FMI as an American Civil Liberties Union for the right wing
Bristow stated the FMI was established “to promote the United States Constitution and to oppose people who and organizations which strive to usurp the freedoms it guarantees.” Bristow also said he intended to target so-called “social justice warriors.” Over the course of the next two years
Bristow became one of the most prominent lawyers for the alt-right
One of Bristow’s most important clients was Spencer
the University of Cincinnati and other universities to force them to allow Spencer to speak at their schools
Heimbach hired Bristow to represent him, whom he had known for several years. In a 2016 SPLC interview with Bristow’s ex-wife
she notes Heimbach and Bristow developed a close friendship beginning in 2013
The Aug. 12, 2017, “Unite the Right” rally in Charlottesville, Virginia (which Bristow did not attend) drew increased public scrutiny of the burgeoning alt-right movement
And one of the key alt-right figures that journalists extensively covered during the next six months was Bristow
the movement’s charismatic legal consigliere
that “journalists have published horrifically disparaging articles about me which contain acerbic
and regrettable statements I mostly made over a decade ago while I was in college.” He also wrote
“In light of the recent relentless and unjustifiable vilification of me
as well as the mischaracterizations of who I am as a person
I have unilaterally made the decision to provide this clarification and to withdraw from politics.”
both the website and Facebook pages for Bristow’s cherished FMI were offline
In over six months since his resignation from FMI
and his involvement with the alt-right appears to have come to an end

AUSTIN — Canyon's Addyson Bristow came into the UIL state track meet as one of the more accomplished runners in the nation
and she left little doubt she was the best on the track Thursday when she blew away the Class 4A field to win the 800
Despite having to circle back later in the night to compete in the 1,600
built a four-second lead in the first lap and almost doubled that in the second lap
almost seven seconds ahead of Salado's Annalee Bryant (2:14.11) and two seconds ahead of the 15-year-old state record of 2:09.99

The 2025 UIL 4A Girls 1600-Meter Run was more than a race-it was a showcase of dominance from Addyson Bristow (Canyon)
the undisputed top distance runner in Texas 4A
Just two hours after setting the 4A state record in the 800 meters
Bristow returned to the track for the second leg of her ambitious double
and she didn't just win-she rewrote history once again
With a season-best of 4:44.43 and a seed time nearly ten seconds faster than the next competitor
Bristow took command of the race immediately
She stormed through the first 400 meters in 1:08.32
separating herself from the field before the race had even settled
her 3:36.66 split made it clear: this wasn't just a victory lap-it was a record chase
With over 100 meters on the field heading into the bell lap
the only question left was whether Bristow would take down the longstanding 4A meet record of 4:53.75
closing hard over the final 200 meters to stop the clock at 4:48.64
shattering the record and completing her 800m/1600m double in unforgettable fashion
Behind her, Brooke French, a promising sophomore from Canyon Randall
leading the chase pack and securing silver in 5:08.01
the 3200m champion and a freshman from Dumas
capped off an impressive meet with a third-place finish in 5:09.96
showing the future of 4A distance running is in great hands
Celeste Cantu (Huffman Hargrave) and McCall Boyd (Salado) also impressed
finishing fourth and sixth respectively in the 5:12 range
battling through a tightly packed group over the final two laps
this race belonged to Addyson Bristow-two state titles
and a performance that will be remembered for years to come

Canyon high school has been home to a plethora of talented runners
including state champions and Division I athletes
But perhaps none of the previous stars have shined brighter than Canyon High's current standout
Bristow has run the fastest 1,600-meter time of any high school girls athlete this year
Bristow also holds the second-fastest 800-meter time in the country at two minutes
The Lady Eagles' star ran that time at the Amarillo Relays
After winning an individual state championship and helping lead Canyon to a team cross country title in the fall
but there is more to her record-setting season than meets the eye
After learning from one of the Lady Eagles' best athletes in recent memory
Bristow has now taken the mantle as Canyon's leader and become one of the top runners in the country along the way
More: Canyon girls, Dumas boys win Amarillo Relays: Results from the 74th Meet of Champions
More: Canyon boys and girls' cross country teams sweep Class 4A state championships
More: Cross country star Lathan Lewter signs with SFA after illustrious career at Canyon
Even as a freshman on a Canyon team that would win the state title
especially one that was coming off of a state title
Bristow didn't realize her full potential until Baca issued a challenge
"She does have a lot of natural talent," Baca said
there's not a whole lot of people who work as hard as her
She puts in a lot of time that people don't see and she does a lot of things that most kids probably aren't willing to do
I think that's why she's benefitting from it
in eighth grade she was a little bit better than average
We had a talk about what she needed to do in a race and stay with (Abree Winfrey)
you're going to get left in the wind.' And she did (stay with Winfrey)
that was easy.' And then all of a sudden she just started gaining confidence
and she got tons better at the end of the track season
It's not that she stepped on the track and she was blowing people away
because she wasn't always winning in junior high
And the first half of (her) freshman track season
and she has a lot of trust in what we do."
After being able to stay close behind Winfrey
the defending state champion in the 800-meter run and 1,600-meter relay
Bristow realized that she had the potential to be an accomplished runner as well
Winfrey and Bristow had a strong relationship
but Bristow said that after realizing she could one day reach the same heights her senior teammate had
she began to "study" Winfrey's routine and regimen
who signed to run at Kansas and is now at sophomore for the Jayhawks
Winfrey earned her second consecutive gold medal in the 800-meter dash
Bristow said that she always looked up to Winfrey
and is thankful to now be in the same spot as an accomplished veteran leader that her former teammate was
just because of the program I was in and how normal that was
even for me coming in as a freshman," Winfrey told the Globe-News
I had those older girls that I looked up to and kind of latched on to
And you find those people that you can look up to and almost
You know they're going to lead you in the right direction and help you be the best you can be
And then just to be able to get to be in that position
and be able to take on those younger girls and have Addy come up and be in a position where she wants to follow me
Everything that Winfrey passed on to Bristow has obviously worked
as the Lady Eagles' current star has continued to improve
winning a state title in the 800-meter run as a sophomore with a time of two minutes
Bristow also placed second at the state championships in the 1,600-meter run in 2024 with a time of four minutes
being beaten out only by fellow Canyon standout Hannah Stuart
who is now running at the University of Missouri
Bristow demolished her previous personal-best mile time
44.43 seconds to claim the fastest time in the nation
Bristow is set to compete March 26-29 in the 3,200-meter run at the Texas Relays
one of the most competitive track meets in the country each season
Taking on a new roleBristow has come a long way from the talented
up-and-coming freshman that pushed a future Division I athlete in the state championship
In addition to being one of the fastest track athletes in America
Bristow has also developed into a leader for the Lady Eagles — giving back to the younger runners on Canyon's team
"It's not something I take lightly," Bristow said
"It's a huge part of the dynamic of Canyon
you just naturally follow the older girls and do everything they do
I just feel like I've learned so much from the older girls
and I really hope that the younger girls can look at me and just learn the same things
I really want to be a good role model for them and I'm also taking in this last year with the seniors
because I want to be just as good of a teammate as they are to me
so I can be the same great teammate that they've been."
Canyon has developed a number of new up-and-coming stars
Lady Eagles' freshman Michaela Sharber placed second in the 3,200-meter run at the Amarillo Relays
finishing behind Canyon senior Avery Brown
"Addy (Bristow) and Avery Brown are such good leaders on our team," Baca said
she's running times that I think she never thought she'd be able to."
Canyon Junior High's Presli Pool won the 8th Grade division in the 1,600-meter run with a time of five minutes
Bristow has cemented herself among a long list of talented runners from Canyon
With one more year of the star junior's high school career after the 2025 campaign
there's no telling what the Amarillo Relays record-holder can accomplish
Bristow is focused on finishing the 2025 season with another individual
Minnesota United today announced that the club and defender Ethan Bristow have mutually agreed to terminate Bristow’s Major League Soccer (MLS) contract

LUBBOCK – Opponents running against Canyon junior Addyson Bristow face a dilemma: Do they outlast or outrun her
The riddle of Bristow remained completely unsolved Saturday afternoon at the UIL Region I-4A track meet at PlainsCapital Park Lowrey Field
Bristow not only defended her region titles but continued rewriting the meet record books
Bristow ran so far ahead of her competitors that they might as well have been in another county
Bristow began her gold rush by winning the 800 by breaking her own meet record set last year with a time of 2:07.60
as she also broke the meet record in the 1600 with a 4:52.96
breaking the previous record set by another former Canyon runner
I was,” said Bristow of trying to rewrite the record books
“I was just trying to beat myself from last year and that’s what I did
The biggest opposition Bristow seems to be facing is herself
because she doesn’t seem to be getting much of it from anybody else
That dominance overshadowed an equally big day for the Canyon boys team
While the girls have won several regional and state titles
the Canyon boys brought home their first Saturday afternoon
scoring 91 points to finish 15 ahead of second-place Stephenville
“It’s definitely something we’ve been talking about,” Canyon boys coach Wes Kirton said
“We made sure we had a bigger goal than what we’ve been doing
I’ve been talking to our (mile relay) guys a lot and I said let’s dream big
All the Canyon boys needed to do going into the day’s finale
they finished less than a second behind gold medalists Dumas
who fell just short of a region record with a time of 3:17.95
and Bristow was part of another region record to end the day
as she anchored the 1600 relay to a 3:50.78
beating the previous record set by Canyon in 2014 by over a second
No one would blame Bristow if she’d chosen to spend that event under Canyon’s team shade tent approximately 20 minutes after she won the 1600
But did anybody think she’d sit out the finish
“I was a little tired but not worried,” Bristow said
“I knew when it comes down to my team winning or losing I’m going to give it everything I got
I wanted to bring us to a victory and I’m happy that I did.”
Canyon had little trouble ending the day with another win
Brooklyn Kinsey got Canyon off to a strong start on the leadoff leg
and after falling behind on the backstretch
Reese Wilson rallied in the second leg before handing off to Sydney Winfrey
When Winfrey opened up a big lead in the third leg
victory seemed like a mere formality when she passed the baton to Bristow
The only question was if Canyon would set a region record and by how much
as the Lady Eagles finished almost six seconds ahead of second place Brownwood
Canyon girls winning the mile relay to close the region meet sounds like a broken record at this point
It’s no surprise that there were three more of them at the end of the day
“I think at times there’s not so much competition so it’s definitely me versus myself at the end of the day,” Bristow said
Not when you consider that Bristow will enter the state meet in Austin as the defending 800 champion and likely prohibitive favorite
and that she will compete in the 1600 after finishing second there last year
Canyon had a typically strong meet with 75 points
The Canyon boys weren’t about to finish behind anyone
the boys were dominant in the distance events
Senior Ryan Fernandez almost joined Bristow in the record books
Fernandez needed to run that fast since he beat teammate Lathan Lewter by .27 seconds
with Aaryan Katwal-Shaver joining the Canyon teammates on the medal stand with a bronze medal to complete the sweep
“I know I have more for state which is the end goal but I’m pretty happy with it,” Fernandez said
“I’ve been dealing with some stuff with my leg a little bit but I’m happy I was able to come out here and perform
(Lewter) took the first two laps and I took the second two.”
Lewter already was guaranteed a trip to state after winning the 3200 on Friday in 9:26.41
Canyon’s other win Saturday came in the 400
Baylor West ran a 50.02 to edge fellow junior Emmitt Stewart for the gold
It was no surprise that West ended the day running the leadoff leg of the mile relay to clinch the team title
with Stewart running the anchor and Jacob Asbill and Adrian Ramos filling the middle two legs
“It wasn’t my best race but it still felt pretty good,” said West of the 400
“I had to pace myself along with (Stewart) and I knew exactly when to push
A tradition continued for the Canyon girls when they won their first medal of the day thanks to junior Hadley Johnson in the pole vault
Following in the footsteps of three-time state qualifier Kashle Dickinson who graduated two years ago
She reached a personal best vault of 11 feet
What particularly stood out about that number was that the cold conditions weren’t conducive to personal best vaults
“The weather was definitely a factor,” Johnson said
“I was going for an 11-6 just to make it
The 11-6 was the PR Johnson had entering the event
which was tied for second best qualifying vault
Bush and Brownwood’s Grace Sparks were the final three left standing when the bard was raised to 11-6
Johnson was the only one to clear the height
earning the gold before she aimed for 11-9
a senior who was a state qualifier last year
got silver and the region’s second state berth by virtue of having fewer misses than Sparks
“I was just trying to stay with (Bush),” Johnson said
“We’ve been vaulting against each other since my freshman year
Randall swept the boys and girls long jump events
but those wins were just the beginning for the gold haul for Collin Miller and Tenera Gray
Miller won the boys long jump with a leap of 23-3 1/2
and Gray took gold for girls with an 18-8 3/4
Later in the day after running events started
Two days after helping Randall’s baseball team win a 16-13 slugfest at Hereford by driving in four runs
Miller was in the leadoff spot for the track team
Miller ran the leadoff leg for the 400-meter relay team
sparking Randall to a win in a time of 41.65
“It’s perfect in my book,” said Miller of his day
“I’m only here for two events and got first in both of them
Miller took a calculated risk in the long jump
as he made what proved to be the winning leap on his first attempt
Stephenville’s Tristian Gentry had a jump of 23-2 3/4 in his first attempt
and Miller was confident that no other jumper would surpass that
“I was just waiting for someone to outjump me before I took another attempt,” Miller said
“I kind of tightened up a little bit (running the leadoff leg).”
Breckan Gilbert and Kaiden Miller to win the 400 relay
with Kaiden Miller’s strong anchor leg bringing it home
Gray’s experience in the long jump was the polar opposite of Gilbert’s
She didn’t know she’d won until taking her final jump
where her leap surpassed the 18-6 1/2 by Brownwood’s Kaya Phillips to win gold
That was a mere prelude to the 300 hurdles
in which she was favored and won in a region record time of 43.45
The 300 hurdles turned out to be one of the most eventful races of the day
but she wasn’t the only one who dramatically improved her time
Kinsey and Brownwood’s Kate Tindol chased down Gray and couldn’t catch her as they finished in identical times of 44.02
A photo finish indicated that Tindol had the edge for second place and the automatic berth to state
“I was in the blocks when I was thinking about it and in that last 100 I heard footsteps and I knew I had to push it,” Gray said
“I think it motivates me to do better.”
Colton Mills and Imanol Marquez won the 800 in 1:28.15 and Nava
Marquez and Reese Waddell combined to win the 1600 to end the day
Marquez was the biggest factor in finishing both
running superb anchor legs to bring home the golds
“I’ve been doing it for two years now and honestly I love the pressure,” Marquez said
“It pushes me to move as fast as I can
I knew in the 4 by 400 we had a better chance and in the 4 by 200 it was going to be tight
I told them to trust me to get that gold medal and they set me up for that.”
Dumas freshman Emily Gross didn’t bring home gold but had two school records with bronze medal performances in the 3200 (11:16.25) and 1600 (5:09.88)
The other gold medal won by an area athlete came in the boys 110 hurdles
Junior Izak Dominguez ran a 14.61 for the win after suffering a broken collarbone just two weeks ago
The top two competitors from each event qualified for the UIL Class 4A state track and field meet set for May 1-3 at Mike A

Industry leaders look to the future with multi-year deal
STRATFORD, Conn. and HOUSTON, April 24, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Sikorsky, a Lockheed Martin company (NYSE: LMT), and Bristow Group Inc. (NYSE: VTOL)
today announced a long-term agreement to provide enhanced support for Bristow's S-92® helicopter fleet
This agreement deepens the decades-long collaboration between the two companies and provides enhanced support for Bristow's more than 60 S-92 aircraft operating in key markets around the world
including offshore energy and search and rescue (SAR)
The long-term package extending into the next decade includes Sikorsky's Total Assurance Program (TAP)
which provides Bristow with continued aftermarket support to operate its S-92 fleet within a known budget
"We are proud to continue our long-standing relationship with Bristow
one of the world's leading providers of helicopter services to the offshore energy industry," said Leon Silva
vice president of Global Commercial and Military Systems at Sikorsky
"We are committed to providing exceptional support to our customers and ensuring the continued success of the S-92 helicopter
which has a lifetime availability average of over 90% and many aircraft achieve more than 1,500 flight hours per year on average in the demanding offshore energy industry."
"Bristow is the largest operator of the S-92 globally," said Stu Stavley
"This long-term support agreement will enable us to maintain our high level of service to our customers
while also controlling our operational costs and improving our overall efficiency."
The TAP package includes the following support provisions for Bristow's global fleet:
This agreement reflects Sikorsky's continued commitment to the commercial market and investment in the S-92 platform
which is well-positioned to support the increasing demands of deepwater operations
Sikorsky recently unveiled the S-92 Phase IV main gearbox featuring an auxiliary lubrication system that automatically engages in the event of primary oil pressure loss
eliminating the need for immediate landing and allowing operators to safely reach their destination
This revolutionary solution has been validated through more than 800 hours of rigorous testing
and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certification is anticipated in 2025
Sikorsky also increased scheduled inspection intervals for the S-92 helicopter and offered a one-time life extension for specific main gearbox housings
These enhancements eliminate more than a full year of downtime caused by inspections and allow operators to safely keep their aircraft in service and generating revenues longer
The earned life credit is up to 1,200 hours / 3,600 ground-air-ground cycles
representing an additional 12 to 18 months for an average S-92 offshore oil operator and more than 24 months for others

Inspired by local physicians who were among the nation’s first to adopt the concierge medicine model
Northern Virginia is now a hub for its surging popularity
These leading physicians are redefining the patient experience with same-day appointments
MD’s change to concierge medicine enabled focused attention for each individual
and the launch of his innovative diet program for those with type 2 diabetes
“The goal is to promote enough weight loss to reach an acceptable A1C of 6% with no medication,” he explains
“Achieving that can take several months of very close follow up
MD considers his patients quite literally as family
“I believe there’s nothing more honorable than helping patients when they’re sick
and I care for them exactly as I would my loved ones.” Whether for a specialist referral
“My patients know I’m always just a phone call away.”

A historical society in a small Oklahoma town is trying to save a piece of Americana but it’s a big lift
Bristow Historical Society Program Director Joe Trigalet and his wife
“We’ve bought a property that’s actually on Main Street
“We’re planning to move the tower to Main Street.”
The Chrysler sign currently sits a block away from Route 66
the sign would have to be broken down piece by piece and put back together again
The tower was designed by 24-hour auto shop owner and flamboyant showman Grover Hubert “Red” Beard
the 20-ton neon beacon first lit up the night in the Creek County community
The plan is to take advantage of a grant program to get the sign shining again against the burnt orange of the Oklahoma sky
the grant writer for the Bristow Historical Society
“If we don’t restore this piece of Americana art
we fear that it can’t stand there ignored forever,” she said
“It went dark in the 1950s and it’s time to restore it.”
If the tower is chosen for the Route 66 revitalization program
the grant would pay for roughly 70 to 80% of the moving and restoration costs
with the rest of the money coming from private donations
The Triagets say the move and restoration would take between four to six months
with the sign expected to be lit up just in time for Route 66’s centennial next year
The RAeS’ 2025 Alan Bristow Memorial Lecture shed light on how the namesake company aims to deliver Advanced Air Mobility solutions in an evolutionary way
the Royal Aeronautical Society hosted the annual Alan Bristow Memorial Lecture at No.4 Hamilton Place
honouring the helicopter pioneer whose company is now one of the largest providers of rotary-wing services worldwide
Delivering the lecture this year was David F Stepanek FRAeS
Bristow Group’s Executive Vice President and Chief Transformation Officer
including involvement in the certification of the S-92 helicopter
the subject of Stepanek’s talk was ‘Advanced Air Mobility: A Philosophical Guide to Early Operations.’
Bristow operates a worldwide fleet of over 200 aircraft
the company has grown to become a global player in rotary wing operations
with a large and diverse fleet of 210 helicopters that range from heavy Sikorsky S-92 to single-engine light AW119s Although its main markets are sectors such as supporting offshore oil rigs
providing search and rescue as well as maintenance and training
Bristow is now pioneering Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) with drones
eCTOLs and eVTOLs helping develop concepts of operations for this new class of air vehicles
Bristow will trial a piloted Beta Technologies Alia CX300 electric aircraft in Norway
The electric-powered conventional take-off and landing (eCTOL) aircraft
will operate between Stavanger and Bergen Airports
This demonstration comes at a time when large numbers of AAM companies are developing aircraft that will use more sustainable energy sources such as electricity and hydrogen in vertical and conventional landing vehicles (the CX300 is available in either)
Stepanek sounded caution on the speed of this progress
The Beta Technologies Alia will be trialled in Norway
Stepanek talked about Igor Sikorsky’s vision where a helicopter would not only carry out missions such as search and rescue but would be deployed as a mass transport system for everyone
this vision has remained grounded due to the expense
the advent of eVTOL aircraft has led to suggestions that this situation could change – because they lack gearboxes and turbines which generate much of the noise and expense from helicopters - particularly around maintenance
Stepanek was cautious about on the likely timeframes for this
arguing that by the time the necessary technological advances and the certification process are taken into account
so-called ‘flying taxis’ may not be available until the late 2030s or early 2040s rather than the often promised ‘end of this decade’
he made the point that while “any dummy can buy an aeroplane” successful introduction of AAM will require a holistic approach and operators with deep knowledge and experience in safe flight operations
Talking of Bristow specifically: “we are effectively a software company,” which allows the firm to apply its technical skills and culture to develop solutions
uses stages of establishing and continuously upgrading technology and its standards before developing safety management systems
then finally moving into a culture of regular improvement
Bristow will pursue what Stepanek called a pragmatic "crawl
walk and run” approach to rolling out AAM aircraft and operations
the company will examine issues such as how aircraft landing gear and batteries will cope with the regular use cycles that are needed in a commercial context instead of a testing environment
he made the point that one of the major obstacles yet to be overcome is the public perception
that a revolution in transportation is imminent when
eVTOLs are often depicted as ‘flying taxis’ and people are unaware that operators will in fact be classed as airlines with the ensuing regulations
Stepanek also observed that there is a perception that eVTOLs are safer due to their multiple rotors and redundancy and will immediately there will be viable business model upon certification
“We’ve got to take the revolution and evolve it to get it there safely and efficiently,” explained Stepanek
he argued that companies should commence their journey into AAM operations by using existing infrastructure such as underutilised airfields before investing in expensive new vertiports
Bristow is also set to introduce cargo drones - such as the Elroy Chaparral
such as how AAM can offer affordable flying while still turning a profit for their operators who have had to invest in both the infrastructure and the aircraft - require answers
Stepanek discussed the evolution of aviation in the 20th century
explaining how during the inter-war period
most aviation businesses in the US focused on freight transport
Cargo is therefore likely to become an ideal next step for AAM operations too
operations in Norway with the Beta CX300 will start from August this year
with it being a production airframe rather a prototype
Stepanek said it will transit via Ireland and the UK
Responding to an audience member regarding why Norway was chosen
Stepanek explained that this was due to the country’s regulator being open to sustainable innovation
the ability to fund new infrastructure as well as its plentiful charging capacity due to country’s significant hydropower capacity
Stepanek presented a potential roadmap where these types of cargo operations would followed by limited eVTOL passenger flights utilising existing infrastructure over short distances
Operations would then grow towards Regional Air Mobility over longer distances with new infrastructure in hard-to-reach areas such as Norway’s fjords and parts of Australia
He also discussed how RAM aircraft would deploy alternative power plants
such as the hydrogen-electric engines being developed by the UK’s ZeroAvia
would be Urban Air Mobility (UAM) operations in dense city environments
operating around vertical infrastructure and offering a vision of the future that would finally realise Igor Sikorsky's dream for vertical flight for all
Bristow is investing in new AAM technologies including the Vertical Aerospace VX-4 eVTOL
The pace of innovation in AAM in recent years has been striking
with startups presenting an idea potentially more revolutionary than the last
Although the possibility of rapid progress cannot be discounted
this presentation from a well-established industry player left no illusions of the challenges that still have to be overcome
operators and wider society could be significant
