Chris Allen and Jorge Martin dive into the Week 13 NFL injury news impacting fantasy football
Fantasy managers who have no players on this list should be extra thankful going into Week 13 of the season
Though for everyone else—likely EVERYBODY who plays fantasy football—there are plenty of questions going into the penultimate week before the fantasy playoffs
Let's get to the most important players for fantasy football with injury designations in Week 13 after the Thanksgiving Day games
We'll keep updating this article up until inactives are announced before Sunday's early games
Brock Purdy (shoulder): Purdy logging limited practices the first two days of the week before practicing in full on Friday is encouraging that he’ll return to the lineup
as pass catchers will get a decided upgrade if Purdy returns even close to his previous performance
Trevor Lawrence (shoulder): HC Doug Pederson said that he expects Lawrence to play on Sunday. That’s fantastic news for the Jaguars, as Mac Jones was unable to surpass 138 passing yards in his two games subbing for Lawrence
should move the ball at will for the Texans against a Jaguars defense that’s at or near the bottom against the passing and running games
Nothing like starting players who are chasing points
Bo Nix (back): Nix popped up on the injury report with a questionable tag and logged a limited practice on his first day leading into the Monday Night Football game against the Browns
As of now there’s no worry about sitting Nix
who is on a run of throwing multiple TDs in four of his last five games
Isiah Pacheco (leg): Fantasy managers who get to put Pacheco back in starting lineups are giving thanks on Black Friday. Just temper the expectations, as the first week will probably be a timeshare with Kareem Hunt
who has compiled rush-attempt percentages between 76% to 88% Weeks 8-12
it will be a good game for Pacheco to get in some reps while Hunt is playing on short rest
start Pacheco though the best hope may be that he gets rush attempts near the goal line in a game where the Chiefs are favored by almost two touchdowns
Brian Robinson Jr
(ankle): It initially looked like Robinson might miss this week
but after logging two LP designations to start the week he practiced in full on Friday and should be ready to go
Robinson will likely have the backfield to himself
The Titans come to the nation’s capital and are allowing the 5th-fewest rushing yards to RBs this season (68.2). Since Jahmyr Gibbs went for 127 rushing yards in Week 8
no running back has surpassed 55 rushing yards against this tough Titans defensive front
Robinson may get the bulk of the carries if he’s active
Austin Ekeler (concussion): Ekeler went DNP all three days of practice and is in the concussion protocol. He was ruled out on Friday afternoon and placed on IR on Saturday. With Ekeler having to miss a minimum of four games
that will keep him out of fantasy lineups at least through Week 17
With roster spots being valuable this late in the season
Tough news for one of the truly good guys in the NFL and a friend of the fantasy industry
J.K. Dobbins (knee): Dobbins suffered what looked like an ugly knee injury
sending shivers up the spines of those who've been rooting for him coming off ACL and Achilles tears
but putting him on IR will also keep him off the field until no sooner than Week 17
the valuable roster spot could justify Dobbins being dropped in leagues without IR spots
The Chargers' backfield will likely be a rotation between Gus Edwards, Kimani Vidal, and possibly Hassan Haskins in these first few games
Edwards will likely be the bruiser who gets early work for the Chargers
who is currently rostered in just 13% of Yahoo leagues
He got a lot of love in the preseason from draft experts
but he has just 93 scrimmage yards through 11 games
as the Chiefs have not allowed more than 58 rushing yards to any running back this season
Breece Hall (knee): After missing Wednesday’s practice with a knee injury
Hall returned in a limited fashion on Friday
That’s good news for Hall’s fantasy managers
and there is hope that he will be able to start going into a home matchup against the Seahawks
Seattle has improved dramatically on defense the first two games coming out of its bye, though Christian McCaffrey did compile 106 scoreless yards in Week 11
Josh Downs (shoulder): Downs was ruled out on Friday afternoon, which is tough news for Anthony Richardson to be missing his top target. Michael Pittman
who was on the injury report before practicing fully the past two days
will be the focal point of the passing game after seeing 28% and 30% target shares
Adonai Mitchell could also see bumps in targets with Downs sitting
as he did see deep targets earlier this season when Downs was out the first two games
This is a dome team going into the elements in New England—temperatures are expected to be around 37 degrees with light wind
After the Patriots allowed 4 passing TDs in back-to-back games
this could be a passing environment to take fliers on a deep threat like Mitchell with Downs sidelined
Cedric Tillman (concussion): Tillman missed the entire week of practice in the concussion protocol and was ruled out on Saturday
This opens up opportunity for others in the Cleveland passing game
Before that no WR had surpassed 78 receiving yards against Denver’s defense
DK Metcalf (shoulder): Missing consecutive practices to start the week is never a good sign for a player’s availability
teams do sometimes sit stars in practice before gearing them up for Sunday
Still, take a hard look at Jaxon Smith-Njigba’s usage
the second-year wideout saw 13 targets and put up 7 catches
though they did get beat up by Richardson and the Colts for 272 yards and a touchdown in Week 11
who saw a whopping 39% target share last week
With the Ravens still at the bottom in fantasy points and receiving yards allowed
He could be a great play in DFS if Smith does end up sitting
so some decisions will have to be made before the early slate
Ja'Tavion Sanders (neck): After a scary fall where he landed with all of his weight on his head last Sunday
Sanders was taken to the hospital for testing before being released that same evening
The Panthers did not take chances with the talented rookie. He did not practice this week and was ruled out on Friday. Short and intermediate routes should go to Adam Thielen
The Buccaneers are fourth in the league with 250 passing yards allowed per game

Marietta High has become the premiere program in Southeast Ohio for boys and girls soccer
and none of it would have been possible without Jerry Brock
Brock played a crucial role in bringing competitive soccer to Marietta
helping form the Marietta Soccer League in 1981
He also worked to start a varsity soccer team at MHS in 1985
and became the program’s head coach in 1986
Brock oversaw the Marietta Soccer League’s purchase of the land in Devola that is now the Tigers’ home pitch
When Brock stepped down as Marietta boys soccer team’s head coach in 1999
he had compiled a 179-72-18 record in 14 seasons
the Tigers won nine Southeast Ohio Athletic League championships
eight sectional championships and five district championships
His contributions to the sport have been massive
he’ll be inducted into the MHS Athletic Hall of Fame Saturday at the Lafayette Hotel as part of the Class of 2024
“I think it’s a neat honor,” Brock said
“For someone who wasn’t a particularly great athlete
to end in a hall of fame for athletes is neat
“My kids played soccer at the (YMCA),” Brock said
As that developed and the kids in the league got to the high school age
we talked the high school into letting us be a part of varsity sports
we had to get some fields and stuff like that
myself and others promoted that and ultimately ended up with a complex
so I called up the athletic director and asked ‘What’s happening?’ He said
‘We don’t have a coach.’ Next thing I know
who has practiced law in Marietta for more than 60 years
was a two-time SEOAL Coach of the Year and two-time District Coach of the Year
It brings Brock joy to see the program continue to flourish more than two decades after his coaching career ended
“I take a lot of pride in that,” he said
and started the process of having good high school soccer teams
was one of my players and he never left the program
He was helping me toward the end of my coaching career
He’s been the head coach for 17 years and I think that continuity of coaching is part of why the program is strong.”
won his 200th career game earlier this season
“To get 200 on this pitch in our 40th season of soccer with Jerry going into the Hall of Fame this year
all kinds of good things going on,” Morris said following a win over Athens earlier this fall
“I would be lying if I wasn’t proud of this accomplishment
Brock said of Morris’ accomplishment
and more of a full-time job than when I coached
He’s just been tremendous and loyal and willing to stick with it and work hard
When Brock reminisces about his coaching days
“The things that stand out are kind of the fluky things,” Brock said
“We went to a tournament game in Lancaster
but there was a foul-up — there were no referees
I think it was like 3:30 when we finally started play
At the end of the game we were tied and went into overtime
Usually the first five shots for each team decides
so we had to have people turn on their car lights on each side of the field.”
As the Tigers typically did when Brock was coaching

Today we’re talking about former Tiger legend Brock Olivo
Brock got inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame
it’s something that I just assumed had happened a long time ago
and as a member of the hall of fame (I know
sorry) I say welcome to the club and well-deserved
Here’s Mizzou’s story about the honor for Olivo
This is what the HOF had for Brock’s bio:Raised in Hermann just outside of St
The Mizzou presence with the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame is massive
I tried to do a search on the HOF website to get a count of how many former Tiger athletes
administrators and staff members are inductees
If you want to learn more about the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame (which is located in Springfield, Mo.), you can visit their home page here
Any Mizzou fan can see the talent lost in these last two cycles
But this core was also a special group of player leaders
something that is a lot harder to find than a 4.5 40-yard dash wide receiver or a 1,000-yard running back
We’re all optimistic that the Tigers won’t take a step back in 2025
and while it’s good that the fan base in general has growing expectations
maybe it’s prudent to take a step back and appreciate just what these last two years have been
The Tigers (gymnastics) put together their second complete four-rotation performance of the season in Baton Rouge
and only counted one single score under 9.80 While Missouri didn’t get any season high rotation scores
they did have rotations that were just off their best
and took shares of first place in multiple events
The gymnastics team is off to big-time start in their 2024-25 season
With Helen Hu flirting with perfect 10.0 performances every night
this team has a lot potential to make some noise in the post-season..
There’s no doubt that Mizzou is playing like one of the best teams in the country right now
4 Tennessee on Wednesday night and a home date vs No
10 Texas A&M on Saturday afternoon loom for the Tigers
but there are opportunities for this team to make even more of a statement..
I doubt hardly anyone outside of the Mizzou locker room had a #15 ranking and three top-10 wins on their bingo card coming into the year
but that’s exactly what Dennis Gates and company have achieved so far
Who knows how high the ceiling is for this team
but they sure seem like they can make some noise the rest of the season!..
It’s not solely the fact he’s doubled his scoring output
but McKinney III is making the kind of progress his father wants to see from him as a distributor
McKinney III also shoots the ball well enough off from 3-point range that – as you’ll see – he can already start creating the gravity required to introduce wrinkles by screening for a lead guard like Williams
Plus an early look ahead to the Tennessee matchup, the Lineup performances from the MSU game, and a minutes projection update from DataMizzou

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- A look at what's happening around the New York Jets:
when the trio gathered in their living room to watch NFL games
Rose said they always knew Hall had the talent to play in the league
Rose credited Purdy with pressing Hall into becoming a better player
"Breece and Brock would definitely go at it
They were always trying to one-up each other
"Brock was always harder on Breece to get him to come along a little bit
Brock was the perfect example of how to go about it
Brock was kind of like a good mentor for Breece
I think Brock would always poke fun at him."
He "always pushed Breece in that way to become more of a pro and stuff like that," according to Rose
Rose and Purdy lived together for a semester
who had a first-floor bedroom off the kitchen
They didn't throw any parties ("We were kind of lame," Rose said)
Brock Purdy hands the ball off to Breece Hall back when they were teammates at Iowa State. The two will face off Monday when the 49ers host the Jets. AP Photo/John LocherRose, waived recently by the New Orleans Saints
will be watching his old roomies as they begin their third NFL season
so it's been fun to have people you can always watch," Rose said
how he's handled himself and how he's still the same guy
Breece is still going to have a coming-out party
I don't think people know what he's capable of
because you saw the work first-hand and the time they put into it."
Floyd wasn't trying to hurt Rodgers on the play
"I hope he doesn't in any way feel responsible for that at all."
He has enjoyed his on-field interactions with Floyd over the years
noting he once pump-faked Floyd on a touchdown run
teased him about it and then got blasted in the chest when he tried it again
he's played at a high level for a long time," Rodgers said
"and I'll enjoy dapping him up before the game."
3. The Incredible Shrinking Lineman: Without edge rusher Haason Reddick (holdout), the Jets probably will turn to Micheal Clemons (one career start) to play defensive end in the base defense
He's not a natural pass rusher (only three sacks in 32 games)
Clemons was asked to gain 30 pounds so he could slide inside to defensive tackle -- an ill-fated move
not a good idea," coach Robert Saleh admitted
"Never mind." He dropped the weight and is now listed at 263 pounds
The hope is that a thinner, quicker Clemons can raise his pass-rush game. In reality, the Reddick void -- at least in terms of pass rush -- will come primarily from 2023 first-round pick Will McDonald IV
only 14 teams have had at least nine former first-rounders on defense
5. Reddick's absence: Some folks might be wondering if Reddick will pull a Le'Veon Bell and sit out the entire season in a contract dispute. Bell did that in 2018 with the Pittsburgh Steelers
then signed with the Jets as a free agent in 2019
But the Reddick and Bell situations are apples and oranges
Bell didn't have a contract with the Steelers; he had the franchise tag and refused to sign the tender
Reddick has one year left on his contract; if he sits out
he doesn't get credit for the season and his contract tolls
his rights still would belong to the Jets and he will have accomplished nothing with his holdout
"I'm going to go to free agency," he told ESPN
and then just seeing what happens after that."
yet it's interesting to note Simpson has received unsolicited shoutouts from Rodgers and Saleh
Rodgers called him "one of the biggest surprises" in training camp
free agent find if he can reduce his penalties
He was among the league leaders last season with 11
8. On the edge: Defensive end Jermaine Johnson
is aiming high in 2024: "I want to be the best edge rusher in the NFL." He listed three areas where he can improve: eliminate wasted movement
develop a pass-rushing plan for each play and use more counter moves
there's no reason why they can't be a physical running team
The Last Word: "Regardless of what happens on Monday -- we win
[it's] 'Same old Jets.'" -- Rodgers on media and fan reaction
New York Jets running back Breece Hall and San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy go way back
It makes sense why they would exchange jerseys following their head-to-head in Week 1
The 49ers pulled out the 32-19 win over the Jets
The two were teammates in college at Iowa State
Both were selected by their respective teams at the 2022 NFL draft--Hall in the second round and Purdy the last overall pick in the entire event
Purdy's earned his stripes in the NFL well beyond that
his former teammates needed to switch jerseys after the final whistle no matter where their careers have taken them
Their exchange can be found in the clip below:

"It definitely got competitive," Rose said, per Cimini. "Breece and Brock would definitely go at it. They were always trying to one-up each other, whether it was Madden or anything.
"Brock was always harder on Breece to get him to come along a little bit, just like with football and stuff. Brock was the perfect example of how to go about it. Brock was kind of like a good mentor for Breece. I think Brock would always poke fun at him."
The old roommates will meet up again on Monday when the Jets open the 2024 regular season on the road in San Francisco
Hall recently raised Purdy's success in rising to the 49ers' starting job in an appearance on The Rich Eisen Show
"I'm surprised how fast it happened," Hall told Eisen (1:25 mark)
Being around a guy like him every day and seeing the way he lives his life
his success now doesn't surprise me."
Purdy had similarly high praise for Hall when speaking to reporters in the week leading up to Week 1 (h/t Jets team reporter Ethan Greenberg.)
"One of the most talented football players that I've ever shared the field with or just seen play football live
Breece is one of the most talented guys," Purday said
Seeing his development from when he got [to Iowa State] as a freshman
to then us pushing each other in the weight room and getting on the field and the relationship that we had
bringing him under my wing and just trying to push him and want to see him be his best."
Purdy continued: "To see his development over the three years that he was there and that we were there together was pretty cool
The Jets and 49ers are slated to kick off the first Monday Night Football of the 2024 season at 8:15 p.m
SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Stakes will be higher Monday night than when Brock Purdy and Breece Hall
wouldn’t speak to each other for hours following video game battles in college
I just tried to push him and wanted to see him be his best
We pushed each other in everything we did.”
“Me and (Purdy) are actually overly competitive with each other, so even in college when we played Madden and stuff, whoever won, we wouldn’t talk to each other for the rest of the day,” Hall told reporters in June. “So that’s how it’s going to be until after the game.”

pickleball and pickup basketball games in the driveway of Iowa State coach Matt Campbell’s house
But it was probably most beneficial in the weight room
where Purdy and Hall strained through core and leg workouts until failure to see who could last the longest
Purdy broke essentially every school passing record
Hall amassed nearly 4,000 rushing yards over just three seasons
The duo was central to the most successful stretch in Iowa State’s history
which peaked with a 34-17 Fiesta Bowl thrashing of Oregon that capped the 2020 season

“It’s really special for us,” Campbell said in a phone interview last week
“This is the game that my own family has been bragging about because they’re so fired up about it
They religiously follow the 49ers and the Jets
It’s permeated our walls this week as the kickoff for the NFL season comes.”
The backstory dates to Campbell’s decision in 2019 to house the freshman Hall with a sophomore Purdy, who’d already been living with star linebacker Mike Rose
“(Purdy and Rose) were a year older and growing superstars on our team
and I could see that Breece was going to be that way,” Campbell said
“And what I found was Breece was really good for those guys
he’s an unbelievable competitor — and he was able to bring a sense of calmness to Brock
Those are traits Purdy has leveraged to big success early in his NFL career
and Campbell believes that living with Hall helped the quarterback sharpen them
‘Here’s what excellence looks like in practice every day — here’s how to become a pro in your approach of studying a game,'” Campbell said
“I feel that those two helped each other immensely in their time here
They were two absolutely similar competitors’ hearts
“I feel exactly what I wanted to get out of those guys being roommates was what we were able to get out of it
What they were able to do for our team was transformational
but how they transformed each other’s lives was really special.”
What I'm seeing from the New York Jets: Every throw of Aaron Rodgers' return so far
Neither Purdy nor Hall overlapped with Lazard at Iowa State
The receiver played for the Cyclones from 2014 to 2017
but he was part of a group that built a strong foundation for Purdy when he took over as a freshman starting quarterback in 2018
did more than overlap with Purdy and Hall in Ames
On his way to grabbing Iowa State’s single-season and career sack records
the edge rusher — a first-round pick of the Jets in the 2023 draft — created massive problems for the Cyclones offense at practice
“You could really spark the practice by just putting the ball down and going good-on-good,” Campbell said
And Will McDonald could wreak such havoc on a practice
“There were many times Will McDonald ruined two-minute drills here at Iowa State
so I would purposefully have to put Will next to me (out of the play) for two-minute drills
just so we could execute the situation at times
He’s always said that I’ve never allowed him to rattle or get after Brock — and he was right for four years.”

Pick up The Athletic 2024 Fantasy Football Guide to read expert evaluations
Purdy smiled when reminded of the times that Campbell yanked McDonald off the field
Will was so twitchy and bendy,” Purdy said
“It was very hard for our offensive line to block him
going up against him in practice at Iowa State
It’s hard to go through my progressions.’ We’re on another level now in the NFL
As the NFL’s training camp and preseason wrapped up over the back half of August
Campbell’s former players checked in with him as they customarily do
The coach shared that McDonald — who had three sacks as a rookie but is poised to grab a bigger role in his second season — seems especially excited by his chance to chase Purdy
the QB he wasn’t allowed to touch at Iowa State practices over four seasons
“The one thing I told Will: ‘You’d better not hurt Brock — you can sack him
but you just can’t hurt him,'” Campbell said with a laugh
“So he promised me that would be how he approached the game.”
Time for another season of Cyclones in the NFL‼️

What we're seeing from the 49ers: Brock Purdy airing it out and other observations
But it’s the Iowa State reunion that will capture the attention of Ames
“That’s the neat thing about this place,” Campbell said
So once these great people and football players move on
to be able to watch four guys who had a profound impact on this program and have been cornerstones of our success.”

The preseason play of second-year Seattle Seahawks edge rusher Derick Hall is creating some hype
A second-round pick out of Auburn by the Hawks in 2023
He’s becoming a popular pick to be a breakout player in 2024
thanks to what he’s shown in Seattle’s two exhibition games as well as offseason practices
Rost: What we learned from Seahawks’ second preseason game
What has the 23-year-old Hall shown? Well, there’s this play that’s been making the rounds online of him blowing up a Tennessee Titans tight end in Saturday’s preseason game
And then there’s the sack of Titans quarterback Malik Willis that he teamed up with fellow Seahawks edge rusher Boye Mafe on (see below)
D Hall and Boye got him 😤 pic.twitter.com/52svfa5klh
— Seattle Seahawks (@Seahawks) August 17, 2024
All this has Seattle Sports’ Mike Salk wondering about what Hall’s season could look like
“We’ve spent a lot of time kind of lamenting what happened to Derick Hall last year
a guy who when you see him looks like he should be the best defensive end in the game,” Salk said during Monday’s edition of Brock and Salk
“You watched him last year and he didn’t do a whole lot
(but) he was pretty disruptive for the second straight game (on Saturday)
Seeing that video all over the internet this weekend of him just blowing up the tight end who comes over – he destroys that dude
former NFL QB and current FOX football analyst Brock Huard
thinks Hall indeed just might be “real.”
“You know what he looked like last year
Like a lot of the Mariners hitters this year
when the play is there to be made and you get a chance to violently set an edge
And it just never felt like he totally cut it loose (in 2023)
there weren’t really too many moments where you were like
260 to just live and breathe and eat.’ You just didn’t feel that a season ago
and he’s playing with a level of violence that you would want to see out of a guy of his size and structure.”
Huard eventually took his evaluation of Hall a step further
“Certainly this camp and through this offseason
he’s looked like one of the most talented edges they’ve got.”
Video: Most Intriguing Seattle Seahawks – Derick Hall
Huard spoke about how the players Seattle has for its defensive front
seem to be the right fit for the defense brought in by new Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald
He used the example of Denver rookie QB Bo Nix
the Oregon product whose Broncos will come to Lumen Field for a preseason finale against the Seahawks this Saturday
“You’re seeing those guys move around,” Huard said of edge rushers like Hall
” … When Bo (drops back to pass)
he’s going to feel a ferocity of noise and speed and violence and just guys moving all over the place
And that’s advantage these guys’ skill set
McDonald and (Seahawks defensive coordinator Aden) Durde inherited a front – and I’ve said this repeatedly for six
seven months – they inherited exactly the kind of clay they need to move around
They did not inherit Poona Ford and Al Woods
And throwing Byron (Murphy II) and Leonard Williams and Jarren (Reed) into that mix – pretty diversified front.”

EDDIE HALL is open to a stunning fight against Brock Lesnar - despite being frightened of him
Lesnar left the WWE to pursue a career in MMA only to return to wrestling after winning the UFC heavyweight title
has not fought since 2016 and only makes cameo appearances in the WWE these days
meanwhile has had one boxing bout and another in MMA since walking away from strongman competition
The former world's strongest man is training for another fight in the cage - and refused to rule out a dream bout with Lesnar - for the right price
Clash Royale ambassador Hall told SunSport: "Would I fight Brock Lesnar
MAKING A MEAL Inside Eddie Hall's insane 10k calorie-a-day diet - and he still loses weight"I mean, God, if you ask me, my first response would be no. Why? That is a fearsome man.
"There's not many people on this planet that scare me. And Brock Lesnar is definitely one of those.
"But I probably would fight him if the money was right. Yeah, so why not?"
Lesnar debuted in the UFC in 2008 and had eight octagon fights - four for the title.
He initially retired in 2011 but made a dramatic return in 2016 to fight Mark Hunt at UFC 200 - winning before it was chalked off for a failed drug test
Lesnar has not fought since and is yet to return to WWE since 2023
Hall meanwhile has not weighed the UFC heavyweight limit of 265lb since he was 18-years-old.
The strongman star lost his boxing debut to rival Hafthor Bjornsson in 2022
But this year he defeated TikTok pair Jamil and Jamel Neffati in a two-on-one handicap MMA bout.
Hall is now in talks to fight strongman-turned MMA fighter Mariusz Pudzianowski.
He said: "Mariusz Pudzianowski is five times World Strongest Man and we're very similar build
His strength is really portrayed in his fights
So I just think that all these different sorts of things that I've got going on equals the playing field a little bit
"And I keep asking the question to people
that's going to be a really good fight.'
Aaron Rodgers and the Jets got off to a hot start, taking a 7-3 lead into the second quarter. But from then on, it was all Brock Purdy and the home-team 49ers
San Francisco outscored New York 13-0 in the second quarter then held onto the lead for the rest of the contest
This primetime NFL matchup pit two former college teammates against each other. Niners quarterback Brock Purdy and Jets running back Breece Hall were teammates
friends and roommates during their collegiate years with the Iowa State Cyclones
Purdy and Hall were college teammates for three years in Ames (2019-21). Hall was selected by the Jets with the No. 36 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft
Irrelevant — went to the 49ers at No
Purdy and Hall met at centerfield for a postgame handshake and jersey swap following Monday night's game
Their heartwarming postgame interaction is all over social media
Purdy finished the game with 231 passing yards on 19/29 passing
Hall took 16 carries for 54 yards and a touchdown on the ground
and reeled in five catches for 39 yards through the air
Purdy and Hall weren't the only former Iowa State Cyclones to put on solid performances
Jets wide receiver Allen Lazard notched six catches for 89 yards and two touchdowns
And once he scored of course had to flex his bicep
and act like he blew a kiss to one of them

On his podcast “Kliq This,” Nash recounted the moment he feared Lesnar had seriously injured himself during the high-stakes bout
The incident occurred when Lesnar attempted a daring Shooting Star Press

He also learned to share his lessons with others
especially younger scouts making their way into the business
“The great thing about Ted is he has mentored these people to make them better scouts and better people,” Malloy added
“You don’t last the years that Ted has without doing a good job
they’ve been great mentors to the younger generation
You have to be mentored by the older scouts
I would not have the career I currently have.”
Former Canucks AGM Laurence Gilman was delighted about Hampson being recognized
who has always carried himself with dignity and grace
He was part of a fraternity of brothers that operated when our business was much less complicated,” Gilman told Postmedia
he plied his trade at a time well before the luxuries of modern travel existed
God only knows the millions of miles and thousands of nights that he (and his contemporaries) spent in all four corners of our world in pursuit of that hidden gem or under appreciated asset
“Our business owes a debt of gratitude to all of the Ted Hampson’s that have dedicated their careers to finding the talent that makes our game as special as it is.”
He’s been the rock that has helped that group along
He’s perfectly comfortable talking about his mistakes,” Malloy said
TSN’s Craig Button scouted for a decade for the Dallas Stars/Minnesota North Starts organization
“Diligent is the word that comes to mind when thinking about Ted
He always set out with a purpose when he was scouting
confident in his own thoughts and understanding of the process of evaluating and projecting young players,” he told Postmedia via text message
“He was a model of work ethic and selfless purpose with a view of contributing to something bigger than himself
Long-time hockey agent Ben Hankinson has seen Hampson at work first hand
“Great human,” he replied when told that Hampson was being honoured next week
John Garrett was a teammate of Hampson’s on the Minnesota Fighting Saints in the mid-1970s
Hampson was a long-toothed veteran by that point and was the team’s captain
big pressure on the captain and he sailed through it,” Garrett said
People said ‘well he didn’t skate well enough’ but Teddy said there’s more there
I know Brock was really appreciative of him for it
I’ve seen him speak with Teddy many times,” he added
Malloy said that honouring Hampson in this way
is the most important honour that can be bestowed
It’s why veteran scouts Ross Mahoney — who got his scouting start with the Canucks before moving to the Washington Capitals — and Garth Malarchuk started the foundation two years ago
‘Thank you for your contributions to the game’,” explained Malloy
who is helping promote the foundation’s work
“The foundation is about honouring the past
contributing to the community through charity and mentoring
It’s no different than when the Professional Hockey Writers’ Association has someone honoured in the Hockey Hall of Fame
“They deserve to be honoured by their peers
It’s a different type of honour when they’re honoured by their peers.”

He would be a key player in the Cardinals’ World Series win over the Yankees in the 1964 Fall Classic
Brock’s triumph in 1964 was just the beginning
He went on to lead the National League eight times in stolen bases and twice in runs scored
all while inspiring a new focus on base running among general managers
“People equate stealing a base to winning a game,” Brock would later say
“They don’t equate a home run or a single to winning a game

He was once released by a Class D team in Mooresville
and had even suffered shrapnel wounds in his pitching arm while fighting in the Battle of the Bulge during World War II

Though he started just 52 games in his career
Wilhelm pitched for nine teams over 21 major league seasons and set the all-time record at the time by pitching in 1,070 total games
He compiled 14 seasons with an ERA under 3.00 and became the first pitcher to win ERA titles in both leagues in 1959

Garnering nicknames like “The Moth,” “The Iron Butterfly,” and “The Dancer” from teammates and opponents alike
Wilhelm’s pitch was as unpredictable as it was effective

Brock Nutter started 48 straight games for the Trojans and made history as Troy’s first quarterback at the NCAA Football Subdivision Level (FBS)
He ranks third all-time in Troy history with 7,687 career passing yards and 581 completions while checking in fourth all-time with 49 career touchdown passes – Nutter was the school record holder in passing yards and completions at the time of his graduation
“He was tough and super competitive,” said Troy University Sports Hall of Fame inductee Lawrence Tynes
“They played a really tough slate of games his senior year and for him to make every single start of his career really showed you his leadership and his toughness.”
A two-time All-Southland Conference selection and the 1998 Southland Conference Newcomer of the Year
Nutter led the Trojans to a pair of conference titles and three trips to the NCAA FCS Playoffs
Nutter was named to the Dan Hansen All-America Team following his junior season after throwing for 1,999 yards and guiding the Trojans to an 11-2 record and quarterfinal berth in the NCAA FCS Playoffs
Before the Trojans made the jump to the FBS
they began to mix in teams from the upper division into their schedule including games at Cincinnati and Middle Tennessee in 1999
Troy knocked off both the Bearcats and Blue Raiders which was just a precursor of what was to come in its inaugural FBS season
“He was just fearless in those two games,” Tynes said
“We went on the road and beat two Division I teams and that was such a big moment for us.”
Nutter threw for 390 yards in the win at Middle Tennessee
the second most in school history at the time and 13th most currently
and threw touchdown passes to three different receivers
“Nobody threw that post pattern better than Brock Nutter,” Tynes said
but that play action post pattern with just a thing of beauty.”
Under Hall of Fame head coach Larry Blakeney
Troy made the move to college football’s top level and made history with a stunning 21-9 win at Mississippi State as the Trojans finished the season 7-4 against a schedule that also included Miami and Nebraska – the two teams who played for the national championship that season
Troy combined for 36 wins over his four-year career and never lost a game to in-state rival Jacksonville State (4-0)
“I didn’t know if he was 65 or 18 when he first got here because of that trademark gray hair,” Tynes joked
“I had heard we signed this kid out of high school but didn’t know much about him
so that showed what the coaches thought about him early on.”
Nutter led the Trojans to an 8-4 mark his redshirt freshman season and a trip to the FCS Playoffs
“He just wanted to beat you in everything he did,” Tynes said
Brock is one of the most competitive people that I know
He was fiery and would do anything he had to to win a football game; we knew he was our guy after he sat that first year.”
Nutter is active in his community volunteering with the Hoover Service Club and Junior Achievement of Alabama among several other organizations

In this image taken from Uber dashcam video released by authorities
William Brock holds a weapon to Uber driver Loletha Hall outside his home in South Charleston
staying one step ahead of scammers is difficult
I am appalled and saddened by what happened to Loletha Hall
a 61-year-old Ohio woman who was gunned down
Both parties were apparently victims of a scam
William Brock was indicted on three counts of murder and one each of kidnapping and felonious assault
The scammer tells the target that one of his close relatives is in jail or has been in an accident and needs cash immediately
The scammer usually asks the target to send money using an app
Brock told police that prior to the shooting he had received threatening phone calls from someone who attempted to get money from him claiming one of Brock’s relatives was being held in jail
Brock says the caller then threatened him and his family
Brock alleges he thought Hall was working with a man who called him pretending to be an officer at the local court
go to Brock’s home to pick up a package with the money
You could argue that this was a tragic accident
It could have been prevented if Brock had called 911 and taken down the license plate number of the Uber vehicle instead of allegedly playing cops and robbers with a deadly weapon
And — this is something that many of us don’t like to talk about — what role did race and age play in this shooting
Would he have been so quick to allegedly shoot had Hall been a white woman
William Brock in a booking photo released by the Clark County Sheriff’s Office in Ohio
I understand why seniors may feel especially vulnerable
but holding someone at gunpoint and allegedly shooting them without provocation is such poor judgment that you have to wonder if he was mentally impaired
an 84-year-old white homeowner in Kansas City
was accused of shooting 16-year-old Ralph Yarl
after he went to the man’s house mistakenly to pick up his younger brothers
was charged with first-degree assault and armed criminal action
was fatally shot after she knocked on the door of a white homeowner in Dearborn Heights
was convicted of second-degree murder and sentenced to 17 to 32 years in prison for the deadly encounter
Scam calls add another layer of anxiety to the lives of seniors
a scheme like the one that resulted in Hall getting killed could happen again
This tragedy also should start a conversation about gun ownership and aging
at what age is someone too old to own a gun
Senior care experts say we should approach the subject as we would the issue of safe driving
as well as physical and behavioral competence issues related to an elderly person’s safe operation of a motor vehicle
too,” according to the National Institutes of Health
an expert in elder care and author of “Minding Our Elders,” points out “cognitive impairment due to Alzheimer’s disease (or other forms of dementia) and mental health disorders
such as depression and psychosis are the biggest red flags for families to look for when deciding if it is still safe for a loved one to own firearms.”
More than 17 million people age 65 and older own a firearm
“They have the highest rate of suicide by a firearm
and recent data suggest that a disproportionate number apply to carry a concealed weapon,” the agency said
“At least one new handgun has been designed and marketed for older people.”
I don’t see how marketing guns to an aging population is the answer
The best way to stop scam calls is to ignore them

Every team and fanbase has high hopes for a backup QB
but there are similarities between Purdy and Hall
The Vikings have decided to give rookie QB Jaren Hall another start on Sunday Night Football against the Green Bay Packers
a critical border battle with the loser being eliminated from playoff contention
they’re hoping Hall can come in and produce well enough to win and keep their postseason hopes alive
And every fanbase hopes an obscure Day 3 pick turns out to be elite player ala Tom Brady
The truth of course is that a Day 3 pick at any position
is lucky to get a single start in an NFL game
and performing at an elite level is extremely rare
There has only been one Tom Brady after all- a Day 3 quarterback pick that became elite
called upon to start after multiple 49ers injuries at quarterback
Purdy leads the league this year in passer rating and ESPN’s QBR
I’m not sure most pundits are ready to call Purdy an elite quarterback at this point
The main detraction for Purdy is that he benefits by being surrounded by top players on the 49ers offense that make most of the plays and a head coach and play caller in Kyle Shanahan who employs probably the most quarterback friendly scheme in the NFL
But the reality is that every elite quarterback has great players around him on offense
Had Patrick Mahomes been drafted by the dysfunctional Bears in 2017 rather than the Chiefs and Andy Reid
would he be the same quarterback he is today
The dearth in wide receiver talent in Kansas City has certainly had an impact on Mahomes’ performance this season- which has been his worst since becoming a starter
Jaren Hall gains his second start with a pretty good supporting cast- even with the loss of TJ Hockenson
He has a solid pass blocking offensive line- Brian O’Neill is on track to return as well- the best wide receiver in the league in Justin Jefferson
and an explosive WR2 in Jordan Addison if he’s able to go
Head coach Kevin O’Connell is as QB-friendly a head coach as any quarterback could ask for
The one thing that’s been readily apparent over the years is that there is no formula for successfully drafting a top quarterback in the first round
Bryce Young was supposed to be good as the top pick this year- he hasn’t been- while Brock Purdy as the last pick in last year’s draft was supposed to be irrelevant- he’s been anything but
The big QB draft of 2021 featuring Trevor Lawrence
Justin Fields and Mac Jones was a disaster
Not many are saying Purdy is an elite quarterback at this stage
but he’s allowed the 49ers to maintain the top seed in the NFC and be a leading contender for a championship this season
and mid-tier in terms of turnover-worthy plays
He’s a game manager who makes good decisions
and largely takes what the defense gives him- and his skill position players can deliver for him
That’s what the Vikings are looking for from Jaren Hall at this point
take what the defense gives him- and what his skill position players can deliver for him
The Vikings are 16-0 when they tie or win the turnover battle under Kevin O’Connell
The 49ers are 26-0 doing the same thing the past two seasons
So having a quarterback (and others) who take care of the ball is imperative for both teams and a key determinant of victory
both Jaren Hall and Brock Purdy were largely off the scouting radar for most teams
The main digs on both of them was that they were shorter than desired
and could play well in rhythm but not so well when that breaks down
They were both game manager type quarterbacks that could stick with the script but not much else
Both have strong character and were very productive in college
were more accurate in short-to-intermediate range than deep-ball passing
Here is Dane Brugler of The Athletic’s draft profile of each quarterback
STRENGTHS: Quick setup and compact arm-action release … athletic pocket mover with footwork that is tied to his mind … slides to buy time and efficiently regain balance … works through things quickly with the field sense to understand where his outlets are … very accurate in the short-to-intermediate game
driving the ball on outs or crossers … coaches say he developed resiliency over the past four years … high-intangibles player with hard-working and humble attitude (head coach Matt Campbell: “There’s no greater competitor that I’ve been around …”) … durable four-year starter
starting 46 consecutive games … the most productive quarterback in school history
holding almost every Iowa State passing record
and the pocket can eat him up … arm strength is mediocre
especially when he doesn’t incorporate his base or hips … consistently late and off-the-mark as a deep-ball passer
giving defenders time to adjust and make a play … caught bird-dogging his targets … process is too easily disrupted by the pass rush
allowing his mechanics and reads to break down … doesn’t take care of the football (fumbled in six different games in 2021
including three against Oklahoma) … was benched during the 2021 Cy-Hawk rivalry game against Iowa … total touchdown production declined from 35 as a sophomore to 24 as a junior and 20 as a senior
SUMMARY: A four-year starter at Iowa State
Purdy operated out of the shotgun in offensive coordinator Tom Manning’s balanced scheme
He finished his prolific career as the all-time winningest quarterback in Cyclones history (30-17) and owns 32 school records
including total offense (13,347) and total touchdowns (100)
Purdy is a cerebral passer who controls his ball speeds well to layer throws and deliver with placement away from defenders
His average arm strength and inconsistent responses to pressure led to mistakes on film and will be further exposed vs
Purdy is sharp and athletic with a productive resume
but he is undersized with unremarkable physical tools
forcing him to be perfect with his accuracy and timing
He projects as a potential NFL backup with a Colt McCoy-like ceiling
STRENGTHS: Athletic and quick-footed … very efficient in the RPO game and on play-action-boots … spins the ball well on the move and his arm strength looked better on his 2022 tape … controlled mechanics in the pocket or in motion
compact release … displays workable ball placement on pitch-and-catch and bucket throws … cunning as a scrambler and when buying time (sacked just 12 times in 2022) … fully functioning internal clock and not afraid to throw the ball away (7.6 percent of his attempts in 2022 were throwaways
2 among qualifying FBS quarterbacks) … well-built and strong for his shorter stature … mature and married with a family (Blake Freeland: “He’s very selfless and a great leader.”) … competitive
multi-year team captain and was raised to be a leader
WEAKNESSES: Shorter than ideal with a history of injuries … inconsistent deep-ball accuracy and his receivers are often waiting for the football … accuracy suffers when forced to reset his feet/eyes on the move … when he misses
it is usually high … it will be tougher for him to make defenders miss in the NFL than it was in college … needs to take better care of the football
having accounted for more fumbles (13) at BYU than interceptions (11) … his durability is a question mark: missed five games in 2019 because of multiple concussions; redshirted in 2020 because of a hip injury; missed two games as a junior with a rib/core injury (September 2021); missed time as a senior because of a right ankle injury (November 2022) … turns 25 before draft weekend
Hall was a multi-sport athlete for the Cougars and played in offensive coordinator Aaron Roderick’s balanced scheme
The first African-American starting quarterback in school history
he replaced Zach Wilson and posted an outstanding 51-to-11 touchdown-to-interception ratio the past two seasons
A compactly-built athlete with strong character
Hall is poised in the pocket and a smooth operator on the move to make plays with his arm or legs
He won’t benefit from as many scheme-winners at the next level and will need to improve his passing anticipation to push the ball versus NFL defenses
dual-threat passer with above average control and efficiency in his process
short stature and injury history are potential road blocks
He has NFL backup potential in an RPO-based
Hall is the better athlete although Purdy has proven able to make some plays with his feet on occasion as well
with Hall having better long speed and agility
and Joe Burrow all scored in the 90s as well
Overall college PFF stats are not tremendously different either:
It goes without saying that no two quarterbacks are exactly alike
and two similar quarterbacks can have two different careers in the NFL for a variety of reasons
But in comparing Brock Purdy and Jaren Hall
you cannot help but notice a great deal of similarities between the two
and also that the two have similar surroundings in terms of their offensive personnel and QB-friendly coaching staff
Whether all that translates into a similar performance by Hall as Purdy has had with the 49ers remains to be seen
but Hall has had similar metrics as Purdy so far (albeit on just 22 snaps) and there is no denying the similarities between the two far outweigh their differences in traits and circumstances
The biggest difference of course is that Purdy has proven to be a good performer over a season and a half so far while Hall has done so only on a quarter’s worth of snaps
Should Hall perform as well as Purdy over a larger sample size of playing time
the two quarterbacks could influence how scouts and GMs evaluate quarterbacks in the lead up to the draft
and also perhaps change some attitudes on roster construction
Is it the supporting cast that makes the quarterback good
or is it the quarterback that makes the supporting cast good
Former Iowa State football star Brock Purdy always puts his best foot forward on the field, but now a pair of his cleats will grace the Pro Football Hall of Fame
The cleats that Purdy wore during the San Francisco 49ers' win in Week 1 this season have made their way to Canton
when the 49ers were pitted against the Pittsburgh Steelers
made Purdy the first quarterback in NFL history to win his first six regular-season starts
The Arizona native is also the first quarterback to throw at least two touchdown passes in each of his first six regular-season games
The memorabilia joined last year's jersey that Purdy wore in each of his first two home starts when he was then the first quarterback in history to win his first three career starts
Purdy was "Mr. Irrelevant" in last year's draft class
which is a nickname coined for the last pick in the annual NFL Draft
going from third-string to first-string and winning seven consecutive games as the starter
He sustained an elbow injury during the NFC Championship Game against the Philadelphia Eagles on January 29
but recovered in time for this year's season opener
Irrelevant to Hall of Fame relevant," the Pro Football Hall of Fame posted on social media
A game ball is also on display at the museum
The 49ers have won their first two games this season
including a road win last week against the Los Angeles Rams
They face the New York Giants at home on Thursday night (Amazon Prime Video has the exclusive TV rights to the game)

He was baseball’s best catalyst for more than a decade
pressuring opponents with speed and daring on the basepaths
But Lou Brock was much more than a stolen base specialist
And by the end of his spectacular 19-year big league career
Brock was recognized as one of baseball’s most complete – and clutch – players of the 20th century
Brock, 81, passed away Sunday, Sept. 6. At the time of his retirement in 1979, he held the single-season and all-time stolen base records and was one of just 14 players with at least 3,000 hits. When he was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1985 in his first year of eligibility
Brock became just the 20th player elected in his first year on the ballot
“Lou Brock perfected the art of the stolen base over a 19-year Hall of Fame career and cherished his membership in the Hall," said Jane Forbes Clark
Chairman of the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum
he and his beloved wife Jackie would return to Cooperstown each summer
and his smile would brighten Induction Weekend
On behalf of the Board of Directors and the entire staff of the Hall of Fame
we send our deepest condolences to Jackie and the Brock family.”

(Milo Stewart Jr./National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum)
“My greatest asset was being able to light the fuse to a ballclub,” Brock said
“Someone on every team has to do that to create enthusiasm
Louis Cardinals gave me a great deal of satisfaction.”
Louis Clark Brock played college baseball at Southern University before signing as an amateur free agent with the Cubs in 1960
After a season tearing up the minor leagues
Brock surfaced in Chicago at the tail end of the 1961 season
becoming the Cubs’ regular center fielder in 1962
the 24-year-old Brock played 148 games as Chicago’s regular right fielder
scoring 79 runs while stealing 24 bases and hitting .258
the Cubs – desperate for pitching – dealt Brock to the Cardinals as part of a trade for Ernie Broglio
Lou Brock chats with young fan during Hall of Fame Weekend 2004
Brock was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1985
“I guess that fewer than two percent of the people in baseball thought it was a good trade for us,” said Cardinals third baseman Ken Boyer
hitting .348 with 81 runs scored and 33 stolen bases in just 103 games for St
Louis while leading the Cardinals to the National League pennant
the Cardinals’ new left fielder hit .300 with five RBI to help St
Brock began a stretch of 12 seasons where he averaged 65 steals and 99 runs scored a year as the game’s premier leadoff hitter
He led the Cardinals to back-to-back NL pennants in 1967 and 1968 and the World Series title in 1967
hitting an incredible .439 in the two Fall Classics
which included a record 13 hits in the 1968 World Series and 12 the year before
the 35-year-old Brock mounted a successful challenge to Maury Wills’ 12-year-old stolen base record
amassing 118 steals while finishing second in the NL Most Valuable Player voting
“Base running arrogance is just like pitching arrogance or hitting arrogance,” Brock said
“You are a force and you have to instill you are a force in the opposition.”
Brock continued to be a force well into his 30s
closing in on Ty Cobb’s all-time stolen base mark of 892 before passing the Georgia Peach during the 1977 season
He led the NL in steals every year but one between 1966 and 1974
“There are two things I will remember most about Lou," said Ted Simmons
former Cardinals teammate and fellow Hall of Famer
The other was that he was surely hurt numerous times

An 81-year-old Ohio man has been charged with murder in the death of an Uber driver he thought was trying to rob him after a scam caller deceived them both
The Clark County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call on March 25 from 81-year-old William Brock, who said he had “shot someone attempting to rob him,” according to reporting by The Columbus Dispatch
who was arrested on April 10 and has since been charged with murder
an Uber driver instructed to retrieve a package from Brock’s home in South Charleston
Investigators say that both Brock and Hall were targets of a scam caller
but it was not immediately clear if the calls were placed by the same person
and our hearts continue to be with Loletha’s loved ones as they grieve
We have been in contact with law enforcement and remain committed to supporting their investigation," an Uber spokesperson told USA TODAY on Monday
USA TODAY has reached out to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office for comment
Brock had received a scam call before Hall arrived at his home, investigators told WKEF-TV
The scammer “made threats” and “demanded money” from Brock
Brock received some scam call by a person purporting to be someone from our courts who informed him a family member was incarcerated and that he had a bond of a significant amount of money," Lt
Kristopher Shultz of the Clark County Sheriff's Office told NBC News
"The calls turned from 'I'm an officer in the court' to 'We have this subject hostage
Meanwhile Hall also got a scam call instructing her to pick up a package from Brock’s home through the Uber app
stepping out of her car to ask Brock about the package
Hall did not have any idea," Shultz told NBC News
demanding she reveal the identity of the person who threatened him over the phone
Brock also took Hall’s cellphone and wouldn't let her leave
Video released by the sheriff's office to NBC News shows Brock pointing the gun at Hall and following her while she retreats and yells out
then there was more exchange between them," Shultz told NBC News
Brock was at some point injured to his head
Only after he shot her a third time did he then make contact with authorities to report the incident."
First responders took Hall to a local hospital
hurting his head and ear as he chased after her
“Due to there being no active threat presented by Hall at any time during the encounter
and Brock’s failure to contact authorities for assistance while brandishing a firearm
during which he fired at and struck Hall multiple times
he was arrested and charged with murder,” according to the Dispatch
No attorney was listed for Brock on his case in Clark County criminal court
He has pleaded not guilty and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on April 22
Uber says they are assisting local enforcement with the investigation
providing information that could help them solve the case
The company also says they have made contact with Hall's family
The account of the person who instructed Hall to pick up a package from Brock's residence has been banned from the platform
Uber says that driver safety is of the utmost importance
citing a number of in-app tools that have been implemented over the last several years to keep all Uber drivers safe
