Burleson went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in a 5-4 win over the Mets in the second game of Sunday's doubleheader
Burleson opened the scoring with his blast off Tylor Megill in the second inning
Burleson sat for four straight games from April 25-28
but he's been a regular in the lineup versus right-handed pitchers since that stretch
He still needs to make some improvements with the bat -- he was limited to one hit in both games of Sunday's doubleheader and has gone seven contests without a multi-hit effort
nine runs scored and two stolen bases over 105 plate appearances
as he hit 21 homers over 152 games in 2024

The Cardinals' Alec Burleson (41) hits a single off Mets starting pitcher Blade Tidwell in the first inning of a game Sunday at Busch Stadium in St
Coming off a March and April stretch during which he did not homer and produced just three extra-base hits in 85 at-bats to begin his third full season in the majors
Cardinals slugger Alec Burleson views his path to the pros as hinging on his strong bat
The former 2020 MLB draft pick who batted .300 in two minor league seasons and led the International League in hitting with a .331 batting average in 2022 described his development as one where he’s “figured it out" along the way
The stretch he’s experienced at the plate to begin the 2025 season is no different
“I've hit my whole life,” Burleson said Sunday morning
just because I've figured it out my whole life.”
Through 29 games as the Cardinals' primary designated hitter
the 26-year-old Burleson has slugged .289 and produced six RBIs
His expected slugging percentage sits in the bottom 5% of qualified major league hitters
Ahead of his start at designated hitter in Game 1 of Sunday’s doubleheader at Busch Stadium against the Mets
Burleson’s most recent extra-base hit came on April 9
His most recent home run in a regular-season game came on Aug
Burleson ended the 2024 regular season with a .269 batting average and a .420 slugging percentage in 152 games
The left-handed hitter clubbed 21 home runs and produced a team-high 78 RBIs as he set multiple career highs on offense — though he experienced a down September during which he hit .202 and slugged .226 across 84 at-bats
“I'm pretty close to finding the swing again and finding the setup and the mode and stuff like that,” Burleson said
I think you guys will be talking to me more about the games rather than what I need to do.”
Burleson has remained in the top 12% in the majors for whiff rate and in the top 20% in strikeout rate
He’s produced an average exit velocity (90.4 mph) that ranks above league average and is similar to his quality of contact in 2024
when he had an average exit velocity of 89.7 mph
Burleson described the difference between hitting for contact and power as “not far off” and one that requires capitalizing on pitcher mistakes
Guys with high average are the ones that can hit pitchers pitches for singles
The 26-year-old slugger said he isn’t “doing anything new” when it comes to his work to provide more power for his club
He feels he is “on the right track” and pointed to his recent at-bats as an example
Burleson collected one hit — a single — in four at-bats against the Mets
He also lined out on a ball hit to center field that jumped off his bat at 103.6 mph
five of the last seven balls Burleson put into play before the start of the doubleheader registered exit velocities faster than 100 mph
He recorded a sixth hard-hit ball with an exit velocity above 100 mph by lining a 103.2 mph single to right field in his first at-bat of Game 1
I think it's on the way,” the 26-year-old said
Burleson followed with a home run in his first at-bat in Sunday's second game
Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said the decision to have Jose Barrero start at shortstop in Game 1 of Sunday’s doubleheader made the “most sense” in managing shortstop Masyn Winn’s workload
considering Sunday’s doubleheader marked the second doubleheader the Cardinals had scheduled this week after Winn's recent activation from the injured list for a lower back spasm

HOUSTON – We’re continuing our storm chance talks as we head into the end of the week
has the highest chance of more widespread activity
A severe thunderstorm watch has just been issued for Brazos County and Burleson County
scattered thunderstorms are possible in the afternoon hours Friday
just like Thursday’s storm chance if the “cap” can break
Read: EXPLAINER: Why Houston missed the storm bullet Thursday morning
we could see storms starting to form in our eastern counties
more robust storms are possible north and east of Harris County
The chance could stick around as we get into the dinnertime hours
As the cold front begins pushing closer to our area
it’ll help break the “cap” and allow for storms to pop off
Some could quickly become strong to severe
a line of storms forms out ahead of the incoming cold front
Houston remains relatively rain-free through most of the evening
a majority of the line starts to fall apart
Showers and rowdy thunderstorms are possible in the overnight hours as we sleep through the night Friday into Saturday
Once we get into the early morning hours of Saturday
the front will have passed through Houston
We’ve seen consistency in computer model runs of potential strong to severe storms for Friday
A level 1 out of 5 includes the southern portions of Harris County
level 2 out of 5 includes northern portions of Harris County
and all of the Brazos Valley and Piney Woods areas
All modes of severe weather are possible Friday
but the main threats include large hail and damaging winds
they could dump a decent amount of rain in a short window
This raises the risk of flash flooding from a level 1 out of 5 along our coastal communities to a level 2 out of 5 further inland
Continue to stay weather aware as we get through the next 24-36 hours
The good news: the weekend forecast looks great

Burleson ready to keep blossoming for Cards in '25February 16th
JUPITER, Fla. -- Last spring, when Alec Burleson appeared to be very much like a man without a spot on the Cardinals’ 2024 roster
he kept doing the math over and over in his head and
he wasn’t very encouraged with the numbers that kept coming up
and then we signed [DH Matt Carpenter] and [shortstop Brandon Crawford]
those guys have to be here,’ and those were some blows to me,” Burleson recalled this week upon reporting to the Cardinals' Spring Training headquarters
because I was doing the math over and over and it wasn’t working out for me
Then I’d come up with an equation where maybe it would work out and maybe I’d make the team
but what I did -- I hit and I played good defense -- and it worked out.”
Even though Burleson’s chances of making the Cardinals' roster out of Spring Training looked bleak last March
he still had an unbreakable confidence simmering just below the surface
His comments at the time proved prophetic -- “I’m going to hit
I’m going to hit in this league for a long time
After having those comments read back to him this week
To make it in the big leagues -- a sport where many are often consumed by the failure involved with hitting -- one must possess an unbreakable
“No matter what somebody is saying about this team or me personally
We joke about it with me a lot -- ‘Just leave your glove in the locker
bring your bat and hit.’ But I still want to be able to be plugged in defensively
Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol showed faith in Burleson in 2024 even when he often hit into bad luck and struggled for stretches in 2023
Marmol said the determination that Burleson showed last spring -- even when he looked like he might be the odd man out -- speaks to his character and mental toughness
Sign up to receive our daily Morning Lineup to stay in the know about the latest trending topics around Major League Baseball
“You can build off that feeling of never being comfortable
knowing what it felt like and understanding it will work out,” Marmol said
“The better guys can get at not playing GM and just playing the game
And he would tell you that now based on how he was processing that pressure last spring.”
Those kinds of metrics also suggest that Burleson could be on the verge of further blossoming. With Paul Goldschmidt gone -- and Nolan Arenado a trade candidate -- could Burleson have a 25-homer
but I don’t have any kinds of numbers to put on it,” he said
“I definitely want to improve on last year
I was happy with that being my first full season
but now that I know what success feels like
The NFL has officially staked its claim to Christmas Day
The ratings have made that clear, but Roger Goodell’s announcement of a third game on December 25th — two on Netflix and one on Amazon — cements it
The league is positioning itself as synonymous with Christmas
Nate Burleson, part of Netflix’s broadcast team alongside Ian Eagle and J.J. Watt, echoed this sentiment. While Eagle and Watt will reunite as CBS Sports’ No. 2 team this fall, Burleson, a regular in the studio, made his mark in the booth this holiday
And he wasn’t shy about how the NFL is making its move on the holiday
“Money talks and all the rest walks,” Burleson said on Front Office Sports Today
the NBA has dominated Christmas for a long time; we want in on the action
or I’m gonna let you deal with Christmas how you want to with the movies that you’re showing.’ And
They did a great job not just producing up the game
I believe that the NFL has cemented its position on that day that was notoriously known as an NBA day.”
Burleson made sure to shout out LeBron James in the process
But he also made it clear that while LeBron may be the king of basketball
the NFL is king,” Burleson explained
This is how I knew the NFL has successfully replaced the NBA on Christmas Day
waiting for some type of cool promo for the NBA
some guys shooting into the nets with the jingle bells
That’s because they realized the NFL is here; it’s here to stay.”
I’m in the studio most of the time for every show I’m on
I don’t oftentimes get to see the guys that I talk about because I’ve been in the studio for so long
it feels good to walk on the field in the pregame
and guys call ‘Unc’ and ‘Grandpa.’ I appreciate that.”
It’s safe to say the league has successfully muscled its way into a holiday once owned by the NBA

It might not be a make-or-break season for Nevada wide receivers Marshaun Brown and Nate Burleson II considering both will be redshirt sophomores in 2025
But they're each looking at the upcoming campaign as crucial in their attempts to establish themselves as impact players for the Wolf Pack
"Time's running out," Burleson II said
"I've already been here for three years
It doesn't feel like I've been here three years
so I'm just going out there every day trying to get better."
Added Brown of his goals this season: "Ball
Nevada lost its top-two pass catchers from last season in Jaden Smith (62/849/7) and Cortez Braham Jr
The Wolf Pack returns starting slot receiver Marcus Bellon and tight end Jace Henry
who started four games before a season-ending injury
Both of those players did most of their work last season in the middle of the field
Explosivity on the outside could come down to Brown and Burleson II
"I think the two guys that stand out to me 100 percent are Nate Burleson Jr
and Marshaun," Nevada head coach Jeff Choate said
"I think those guys have the talent and ability
We can't just keep bringing guys in and saying
you're the next guy.' Those guys need to take that step
and they both had really good offseasons."
Wolf Pack wide receivers coach James Price said his position is "wide receiver by committee right now" as Nevada wraps up spring camp Friday
The depth chart will be more solidified when fall camp begins in July
While Brown and Burleson II will have plenty of competition for starting jobs
the path is open for both to earn those spots with Nevada counting on big things from them
"They're rising to the challenge right now," Price said
"We challenged them this offseason that
You've been here long enough and we expect a lot of things out of you
go out there and consistently dominate.'"
Both receivers are well known locally as Brown was a star at Bishop Manogue High before signing with Nevada while Burleson II's parents
were both Hall of Fame athletes for the Wolf Pack
201-pounder who has next-level measurables while Burleson II is 6-2 and 161 pounds and is arguably the offense's fastest player with bloodlines of a long-time NFL wideout (Nate Sr.) and college track star (Atoya)
"I think both of them have a very different skill set
those are two guys that we're trusting to get meaningful reps come game time this fall," Price said
"I think they're starting to build that foundation here in spring."
The Wolf Pack brought in a pair of transfer wideouts in Texas Tech's Jordan Brown and Southern Miss' Dakota Thomas
both of whom could figure quickly into major playing time
Brown and Burleson II have both gotten their feet wet in their first two college seasons
Brown has six catches for 76 yards while Burleson II has five catches for 89 yards
including a 46-yard touchdown catch against Fresno State
Both players said they learned a lot last season from Smith and Braham and carry a bigger pep in their step this spring with starting jobs more attainable
Each said consistency is the key to earning playing time
with those major reps something both have talked about since joining the Wolf Pack as true freshmen in 2022
"We came in here together and that's something that's been on our to-do list since we got here," Brown said
We just have that mentality of when we go out there
We just encourage each other before the snap
We've gotta do what we've go to do
I feel a lot of the experience I got last year has helped me be more comfortable out there on the field
Just being in the same situations over and over
Added Burleson II: "I've definitely been more consistent in the last year
Pick one thing to work on every day has been one of the things I've worked on
It's definitely a fulfilling feeling knowing the work you put in that people don't see
you can see it happening on the field with you making plays
Even if Brown and Burleson II emerge as starters in 2025
another local fan favorite as a Truckee High graduate
who is expected to be the group's star
His long road through four colleges landed him back in Northern Nevada last season where he proved he's a Mountain West-caliber starter after catching 39 passes for 522 yards and four touchdowns
The Wolf Pack believes he'll be even more productive this season
"He's an ultimate competitor," Price said
on and off the field he's somebody I trust wholeheartedly
he's gonna find a way to compete and win
His elite trade is his competitive excellence
he's hell of student and he leads those men every day."
was vastly improved from the two years prior
But the Wolf Pack will have a new quarterback leading the offense after Brendon Lewis transferred to Memphis
with their success partially dependent on whether Brown and Burleson II can take the next step in their development from young prospects to legitimate players
"A lot of guys have a decision to make
"You either back down from that challenge and you just kind of drift in the program or you rise to the challenge and you say
'I'm gonna be the guy.' They've served their time on the scout team
they've served time as backups and those are two guys that want to compete for starting positions
and so far they're setting themselves up for success."

"This is a dream come true,” said Meyer in the BISD release
“I would like to thank the hiring committee and Coach Ozee for putting their trust in me

When Nate Burleson first met his future wife
Nate was a fresh-faced Nevada Wolf Pack football freshman in 1999 while Atoya was a senior track and field standout on the verge of graduation
and I was the one trying to get into a relationship with her," Nate said
I remember going to a party right off campus
right across the street from Nye Hall and I was with a couple of freshmen and she was in the backyard of this party and I saw her from a distance and I was
that's the most beautiful woman in the world.' And I was talking to my friend
'That's going to be my girlfriend.' He said
She's going to be my girlfriend.' He said
He introduced himself to Atoya and kissed her hand in an attempt to make her smile
"I just wanted to be everywhere she was in order for her to see me and then hopefully I could wear her down and muster up the courage to ask her out
The Burlesons are one of only two husband-wife pairings in the Wolf Pack Hall of Fame
Nate was inducted in 2012 and Atoya was part of the most recently elected 2024 class
they have two sons playing football for the Wolf Pack in Nate II
who recently completed his second season at Nevada
who redshirted as a true freshman last year
Atoya said the fact Nate was redshirting during his first season at Nevada in 1999 helped their relationship blossom
"I think the great thing about Nate and the reason I was willing to give him an opportunity is he didn't play his first year," Atoya said
"A lot of people don't know that
I hadn't started the season quite yet
so we were able to keep talking to each other
and I learned he was actually a genuine human being
There's always those stereotypical things you here
It really gave me an opportunity to know who Nate is."
Added Nate: "It took some time for her to actually take me seriously."
One of the reasons Atoya was reluctant at first to date Nate was because she had already been offered a scholarship to get her Masters' degree at Texas
She didn't want a long-distance relationship
so she wasn't looking for a serious relationship
"It just so happened the University of Nevada offered me a similar scholarship with a graduate assistantship," Atoya said
"I could work on campus and stay in the sports realm with the coaches
I guess I'm staying!' I was supposed to move a month later
so it happened right on time and the rest is history."

hopefully within the next two or three years."
But small business owners like Stacie Crocker tell 15ABC it's not enough to support homegrown efforts
It's a mixed hat though because at the same time
it's just chomping out more country," Crocker said
She's the owner of Front Street Burgers in Chriesman
"I've been here since April of 2020," she said
"How did you feel just announcing you were closing?," 15ABC asked
but I'm very proud of what I've done here," Crocker said
She tells 15ABC higher prices are to blame
"I went from barely in the black to red pretty quickly in the last four or five months," she said
"I've had to raise my prices twice over the four and a half years plus that I've worked here," Crocker said
But her final message to the community is to shop small
and they're the people who give back too," Crocker said
Though this may be one of her last burgers —
"I'm not quite certain what I have in my future," she said
that will be the end of Front Street Burgers

Nate Burleson II attended his mother's induction ceremony into the Nevada Wolf Pack Hall of Fame last Thursday before going straight to film study
A redshirt freshman at Nevada,Burleson II hasn't earned a large share of snaps yet in his young career
But Nevada's game plan for Friday's contest against Fresno State had one play that could get him on the field— a deep post to beat a Cover 4 defense
"We dialed it up all week," Burleson II said
And early in the second half with Nevada just across midfield
would run a crossing route across the middle of the field to draw down the safety
Burleson would sneak behind him for a one-on-one situation
took a couple of steps backward and launched a perfect rainbow 55 yards downfield that Burleson lunged at and hauled in for the first touchdown of his college career
"It was amazing," Burleson II said
I still don't remember everything that happened
but I just enjoyed the moment and enjoyed the feeling."
accomplished 22 times during his Wolf Pack career
And with his mother Atoya's Hall of Fame induction a day earlier — she was a Wolf Pack track and field star — Nate II had a large contingency of friends and family in attendance
One of the first people to greet him after the touchdown was his dad
"He jumped over the fence and gave me a high-five
and that meant a lot to me," Burleson II said
"Just seeing all my family and doing in front of all my family
Nevada football coach Jeff Choate said the Wolf Pack had the deep pass to Burleson in the game plan in previous games but was unable to get to it
who was born outside Seattle and grew up in New Jersey
was specifically designed for Burleson II because of his speed
"The GPS numbers don't usually lie over time
and consistently that guy's running the fastest on Tuesdays and Wednesdays," Choate said
We had some things schemed up for him in previous weeks and it just didn't click the right way to get the ball to him and he took advantage of it
Choate said deep throws into the end zone at Mackay Stadium are difficult because of the wall two or three paces beyond the end zone
Choate called that a "safety issue" he'd like to see get fixed
which made the Lewis-to-Burleson throw-and-catch even more impressive
"I think that's a courageous throw and catch because you know there's a good chance 'I'm running into that wall,'" Choate said
it was a throw that he could go down and get and not have to put himself in harm's way."
Burleson II's teammates said they were happy to see the young wideout score his first touchdown
Burleson II played in three games and caught two passes for 18 yards
Friday's touchdown against Fresno State was the first of reception of his 2024 season
"That was lit," Nevada wideout Jaden Smith said
"I was kind of watching slow motion because I had a different route on the other side
It kind of happens in slow-mo when you're out there
I know it's pretty fast when you see it from a different point of view
I remember when I had my first touchdown playing under Choate at Montana State
It's a feeling that you you never forget."
We had it dialed up all week and he's one of our fastest
especially last year working our way up from scout team
Being able to see that was really awesome."
Burleson II came to Nevada as a project player
a slender and lanky basketball player who picked up football in high school
His biggest impact was always projected for years down the road after joining Nevada in 2023
with Burleson II saying he's enjoyed learning the nuances of football the last two years
Still learning a lot and asking the questions that need to be asked
The fact that he's seen the field so early in his career is good."
is a true freshman defensive end for Nevada
saying she was the first great Wolf Pack athlete in the family (two of Burleson II's uncles also played basketball for Nevada).Burleson II said he never raced his mother growing up
"The last time me and my dad raced was sixth grade
adding his father had been retired for a couple of years at that point and wasn't in prime shape
With both of his parents now Wolf Pack Hall of Famers
Burleson II knows he has a long way to go if he's to reach those lofty heights
But he said Friday's touchdown doused any self-doubt about whether he can play FBS football
one disappointing element of his first touchdown
"I had a celebration planned," Burleson II said
"I did it in walkthrough the morning before the game
He can save it for his next Wolf Pack touchdown

(WXYZ) — Former Detroit Lions wide receiver Nate Burleson has teamed up with Valentine Distillery in Ferndale to create a new spirit
the new spirit is called LionBlood Orange Vodka
Burleson reportedly approached Valentine President and Founder Rifino Valentine to bring the vodka to life
The all-natural vodka is crafted with zero additives
no corn syrup and real Michigan beet sugar and brings a citrus twist on Valentine's signature small-batch vodka
Valentine said LionBlood is infused with blood orange and elderflower
leading to a soft mouthfeel with notes of citrus on the palate
and aromatic flavored vodka that is made to be savored," Rifino Valentine said in a statement
"After numerous tastings and refining the recipe
the two brought their shared vision to reality—an exceptional vodka that honors both craftsmanship and flavor purity
Remember to savor every sip and Conquer Your Jungle,” Burleson added in a statement
LionBlood Orange Vodka comes in at 70 proof (35% ABV) in a 750mL bottle
Texas (KRHD) — Residents in Burleson County are reporting an increase in drone sightings
Art Fuhrmann isn't too worried about the recent drone sightings in Burleson County
But many of our neighbors on social media are — reporting drone sightings over properties and voicing concerns about privacy and potential safety issues
But the Burleson County Sheriff's Office tells 15ABC there's nothing to worry about
"Drones are becoming more and more commonplace with the way technology is advancing," Drone Operator Randy Jackson said
uses ours for search and rescue and things of that nature
you've got Amazon and Walmart doing deliveries now."
drones over 0.55 pounds must register with the FAA
Pilots must maintain a visual line of sight
and those pilots cannot fly near airports without special authorization," he said
drones cannot be used to take surveillance photos or videos of private property."
there's just one more thing you should know
"I know some people have been suggesting to shoot the drones down
can come with substantial fines and some serious jail time," Jackson said
