The historic hotel also served meals and served as a donation site in addition to housing volunteers and federal workers and all going through some pretty major trauma so it was a pretty incredible time here at the NuWray," Keith said But having a place to come to and focus on helping people was really helpful for us and all of our staff." The Keiths also operate Carriage House Sundries and beer lounge with small plates and a cigar shop There are an additional five rooms in that building as well The brick building was built in 1925 as the hotel carriage house the Keiths have brought the two businesses together again Carriage House Sundries opened in 2024 and has a 4.8/5 rating with nearly 200 Google reviews After completing an outdoor garden connecting the main hotel with the carriage house in summer 2023 and the hotel room renovation process was finished in August marks the final piece of the grand opening puzzle The team will celebrate with a ribbon cutting at the grand opening with town and county officials on hand to celebrate in the occasion I think is what people are the most excited about," Amanda Keith said "It's making the grand opening a little more special." this restaurant became nationally known for its service family-style meals at long tables in the dining room and would seat everybody very specifically," Amanda Keith said It's something that's lived on in people's memory." The basement floor of the main building was always used as a laundry room but the Keiths have converted the basement into a speakeasy bar The couple have been intentional about preserving much of the history of the building they found the original washing machine from the 1800s behind what is now the bar everything in the downstairs bar is used from materials found in the building when they purchased it "We're using the original laundry sinks for ice and champagne We're even using the original floor drains," James Keith said "The whole bar top is second-floor bedroom ceilings The Keiths will offer a rentable "secret poker room" to be used for private events all 22 rooms have en-suite bathrooms spread across three floors The Blue Room pays homage to the namesake of the hotel the generations of families who owned the building including Garrett Dewese Ray and Elizabeth Burchfield Ray The Blue Room also honors William Bryan Wray and Julia Birchfield Wray The Wrays ran the hotel from 1916 to the 1960s The Elvis Room commemorates the room in which the music legend stayed during his visit to the hotel legend has it that "The King" made a number of visits to the WNC mountains to scout for a place to live the new owners of the storied hotel said they're just excited to show visitors and residents alike what makes the Burnsville hotel so special coming through the hurricane made it even more poignant to be doing a grand opening after all of this," Amanda Keith said "The NuWray is such an integral part of this community Johnny Casey is the Madison County communities reporter for The Citizen Times and The News-Record & Sentinel He can be reached at 828-210-6074 or jcasey@citizentimes.com From the Yancey County Sheriff’s Department: There is a gas leak at Burnsville Elementary School Children have been relocated to Shoal Creek Baptist Church for parent/guardian pick up Everyone is safe and we ask parents to please be patient as parents are lining up to get their children Further information will be released when it becomes available The water consumers from Bill Allen Branch to Micaville in the Town of Burnsville in Yancey County are experiencing periods of low pressure and outages in the distribution system due to a water line break Periods of low or no pressure in the distribution system increases the potential for back siphonage and introduction of bacteria into the water system the Division of Water Resources advises that when water is restored consumers boil all water used for human consumption (including drinking washing dishes and food preparation) or use bottled water Vigorous boiling for one (1) minute should kill any disease-causing organisms that may be present in the water This office is strongly urging the water consumers to conserve water whenever possible This advisory remains in effect until further written notification is issued please let us know if you are not satisfied with a print or product Please direct any issues to support@limitlessproductiongroup.com Include a thorough description and if possible a photograph of and defects We will work with you to find a resolution we collect personal information from you to fulfill the order Details relating to your purchase (for example We share this information with Squarespace so that they can provide website services to us this site may auto-complete your shipping and billing address by sharing what you type with the Google Places API and returning suggestions to you to improve your checkout experience. When you subscribe and purchase a membership on this website we collect personal information from you to enable your member areas access We may email you with messages about your order or account activity Your customer account password has been reset or updated It’s not possible to unsubscribe from these messages We share your contact information with Squarespace so they can send these emails to you on our behalf. We may send you marketing emails which you can unsubscribe from by clicking the link at the bottom of the email so they can send these emails on our behalf Select “Accept all” to agree to our use of cookies and similar technologies to enhance your browsing experience Select ”Manage cookies” to make more choices or opt out MINNESOTA - on Sunday morning A report from the Minnesota State Patrol says a 68-year-old man was driving a Volvo S60 northbound on Interstate 35E around 9:40 a.m He was identified Monday morning as Joseph Ferdinand Bluemke The State Patrol is investigating the crash “This was a game changer,” declares Burnsville Fire Chief BJ Jungmann “We needed to have it.”“Whole blood is everything that patients are losing,” adds Drew McLaughlin “We put the whole piece back.”Starting this month Burnsville emergency crews will be the first in Minnesota to be equipped with whole blood products ambulances in the city have been stocked with saline solution and some medications “We have like normal saline IVs that can replenish water volume,” explains Dr Medical Director for Burnsville Fire & EMS it’s as simple as you’ve got to put blood back in.”Partnering with Memorial Blood Centers Burnsville is launching a pilot program — carrying a unit of type O-negative whole blood — safe for all transfusions The blood is to be transported in a portable refrigerator unit — like a high-tech cooler that keeps the blood chilled to below 40 degrees Fahrenheit “That blood is only good for twenty-one days so we needed a good partner to be able to supply us with the blood,” Jungmann notes The Burnsville department will keep the blood for one week it will be returned to Memorial Blood Center where it can be utilized somewhere else.Experts say when seconds count whole blood is key in helping to restore blood volume and clotting ability all of which can help save a patient’s life “If you can bring blood to the civilians on the streets it really increases your chances of survival when bleeding is the life-threatening issue,” Stevens says.Hospitals typically keep blood components separate for different medical issues are used to treat cancer patients. Those combined components can be a lifesaver.“If you put them together in one package and you can get it to the patient early just like you would in a hospital,” Stevens explains we’re going to save lives in Burnsville.”For ambulance crews a run to the nearest trauma center — HCMC or Regions Hospital Burnsville first responders will be able to bring whole blood to emergency scenes you’re waiting up to possibly 45 minutes before a patient would receive blood products from an accident scene to a hospital,” McLaughlin says “Now we can get it to them at the point of injury Stevens says the Burnsville department generally has just over 9800 ambulance runs a year About ten percent of those calls involve life-threatening trauma injuries The hope is to eventually expand the program to more units We want to make sure we’re going to do it right it became a no-brainer as soon as we could make this happen The timing of the program launch is also important to first responders and the community Next month marks one year since Burnsville Police Officers Paul Elmstrand and Matthew Ruge and firefighter/paramedic Adam Finseth were killed while responding to a domestic call It’s been a time of reflection and remembrance but also inspiration to make a difference a commitment to saving more lives,” Stevens says to circle back around this project and look to a future where we save more lives.” (WLOS) — A huge fire has left multiple Burnsville families homeless The flames erupted inside an apartment building on Friday VIDEO: MORNING COMMUTERS SEE BURNSVILLE BUILDING ON FIRE and Clearmont among other stations were called to help because of the fire size and wind “All responded to assist us with water supply and also with men in the fire,” Howell said “I thought we did a really good job knocking the fire down initially and making sure all the residents were out We got the outside attack and got it knocked down.” Each unit in the building sustained damage of varying degrees and left multiple families without a home That’s where the American Red Cross stepped in “They [American Red Cross] have been very good to respond and get them some temporary housing and assist them with the personal belongings that they’ll need,” Howell said EVACUATIONS IN PLACE, STRUCTURES DESTROYED AS THREE WILDFIRES BURN IN POLK COUNTY Howell over his heart on Tuesday in front of three wreaths memorializing three Burnsville first responders killed a year ago During a day of remembrances, Burnsville police officers gathered before dawn in the neighborhood where officers Matt Ruge and Paul Elmstrand, and firefighter/paramedic Adam Finseth were ambushed in a shooting Burnsville Deputy Police Chief Matt Smith said last week that he and officers wanted to be together at the same time they lost their colleagues and friends on Feb “I said it at the memorial service last year and it’s so true these guys — all three of them — were just the nicest guys,” Smith said … These sort of milestones are hard because it makes the feelings come back and they’re also police responded to a 911 call about a domestic disturbance at a home on 33rd Avenue off Burnsville Parkway. Shannon Gooden barricaded himself in the home with seven children of his and his live-in girlfriend’s Police negotiated with Gooden for hours, but he opened fire “without warning” and shot more than 100 rifle rounds at law enforcement and first responders the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension said last year The officers were both 27 and Finseth was 40 “Each soul taken from us represents not just a life lost dedication and selflessness,” Burnsville Mayor Elizabeth Kautz said at a memorial service at City Hall on Tuesday “… They answered the call of duty to rescue seven children with unwavering resolve placing their own lives on the line for the safety of others.” and the police and fire chiefs were flanked by large photos of each of the three men in their uniforms and memorial wreaths bearing ribbons with their names and “EOW (End of Watch) 2/18/2024.” Burnsville Police Chief Tanya Schwartz said they wanted the community to know that while the anniversary “is extremely emotional Paul and Adam for the exceptional men that they were every day — amazing husbands who made people laugh and smile with their humor,” Schwartz said Paul and Adam wouldn’t have wanted us to feel broken continue to show up every day with unwavering courage and dedication just as their fallen partners did,” the police chief added Burnsville Fire Chief BJ Jungmann said a common question they hear is: “How are you and your department doing?” “It’s a really hard question to answer,” he said I’m still at a loss to try to comprehend this unthinkable tragedy we will continue to work to heal together and support each other.” Memorial wreaths were also outside City Hall and people left bouquets of flowers; a crocheted blue heart was placed next to each officers’ wreath and a red heart by Finseth’s Among the people who visited the memorials Tuesday was Sue Allmann of Burnsville She said she went to “thank them for their service and speak on the evil of the world trying to bring light to what happened.” Nathan Michels of Plymouth was in the area for a meeting and visited the wreaths to pay his respects “I can’t believe it’s been a year,” he said “… It’s just unreal.” All the Burnsville officers who responded to the incident last year are back to work “I think it’s a great testament to the resilience of everybody that works here and taking care of each other,” he said “We’ve normalized getting mental health help which we had already done before the incident.” Last month, Ashley Dyrdahl, Gooden’s girlfriend, pleaded guilty to straw purchasing the firearms that Gooden used who died by suicide at the home after shooting the first responders wasn’t allowed to possess firearms because of a past felony conviction The Minnesota Fraternal Order
