they too have ultimately fallen short Relegation ends Rovers' three-season spell in the division while Crawley are back in League Two having secured promotion via the play-offs last term to play third-tier football for only the second time All four relegation places in League One have been decided before the concluding games of the 2024-25 season with Shrewsbury Town and Cambridge United also dropping down Bristol Rovers have taken just one point from their past nine games Bristol Rovers fans were celebrating one of the most remarkable days in the club's history as they beat Scunthorpe 7-0 and Nothing has come close to those highs since Kuwaiti businessman Hussain AlSaeed took majority control in August 2023 before becoming sole owner three months later and there has been a turnover of senior figures with chief executive Tom Gorringe and director of football George Friend leaving this season Two new managers have been appointed since Joey Barton was sacked in October 2023, in Matt Taylor and Inigo Calderon, and Taylor hinted at disruption before he was sacked - when Lee Cattermole was briefly appointed to his coaching staff without his knowledge Following Saturday's defeat by Reading I felt that there were a lot of bad things that weren't because of the previous manager "But it's true that when I came to the club there were a lot of things that I didn't like results have stagnated and after 15th and 17th-place finishes over the past two seasons Rovers were nine points clear of the bottom four but a run of six consecutive defeats - now no wins in nine games - plummeted them towards danger They also have the worst away record in the division claiming just three wins and 12 points in 22 matches Captain James Wilson said last weekend the squad have not been fit enough to consistently deliver 90-minute performances and that standards on and off the pitch have not been at a suitable level not helped by the loss of forwards Promise Omochere and Chris Martin since March through a hamstring injury and knee surgery respectively They now face a likely summer overhaul before kicking off in League Two next season Scott Lindsey has averaged 1.33 points per game as Crawley manager this season - which In the same month the Red Devils secured promotion via a stylish League Two play-off run A month later he was back, saying his passion to bring about further progress had prompted the U-turn - but the only movement since has been in the wrong direction the man who masterminded Crawley's promotion dropped a division to join MK Dons as their new head coach in September after 87 games and 20 memorable months at the helm Although the club were already struggling in 18th place with seven points from seven games Johnson insisted he did not want to lose Lindsey Former Newcastle goalkeeper and Gateshead manager Rob Elliot came in on a two-and-a-half-year deal Elliot only won six of his 33 matches in charge of the Reds and left with Crawley 12 points adrift of safety in League One Lindsey was reinstated for a second stint in charge Back-to-back victories over Bristol Rovers and Rotherham United in his first two games sparked belief that survival was possible And though the Reds claimed four wins in eight matches it was not enough to keep the Sussex club from dropping to League Two after one season in the third tier To load Comments you need to enable JavaScript in your browser View comments | 150Top storiesTrailblazer Zhao set to take snooker to 'another level' in China Alexander-Arnold leaves as modern Liverpool great - Toby Jones plays the spaniel-eyed schoolmaster setting Harry Lawtey’s needy young pupil on course for haughty international stardom Roger Lewis’s account of Burton’s then-adulterous relationship with Elizabeth Taylor in the early 60s the title taken from Pope John XXIII’s extraordinary denunciation: “You will finish in an erotic vagrancy without end or without a safe port.” In fact the nearest thing Burton ever had to a safe port was his inspirational English teacher Philip Burton in Port Talbot whose own frustrated dreams of the theatre were poured into the bright young miner’s son Richard Jenkins coaching him in acting and even making him his legal ward and getting him to change his surname to Burton to facilitate the teacher’s sponsorship of his Oxford scholarship if slightly naive movie from screenwriters Tom Bullough and Josh Hyams Toby Jones stars as the spaniel-eyed Mr Burton and Harry Lawtey is Richard needy kid morphing into that insufferably haughty and sonorous prince of the English stage It tells a uniquely painful and dysfunctional story and does its best to show how Burton’s pride always coexisted with shame and self-hate and culminated with him playing Hal in Henry IV Part 2 at Stratford with Mr Burton in the audience the pair effectively enacting their own version of the Hal/Falstaff betrayal scene The film also takes up the disputed claim that Richard’s boozy and negligent dad only relinquished legal guardianship to Mr Burton in return for the teacher’s cash payment of £50 but it is certainly consistent with something deeply uncomfortable in the whole affair – this is no simple feelgood story Even Billy Elliot’s dad didn’t actually give up his parental rights living with his sister Cis (Aimee-Ffion Edwards) and her glowering husband Elfed (Aneurin Barnard) because there’s no room with his drunk dad Dic Jenkins (Steffan Rhodri) down the road When he does well in Mr Burton’s English class and at his drama club where the film imagines a landlady called Ma Smith (Lesley Manville) perhaps to provide a chaperoning presence in the story The drama here is absolutely clear that there was nothing predatory in the older man’s intentions despite an ugly homophobic jibe from Dic Jenkins once he’d got that fabled £50 in his hand But certainly Richard himself is resentful and confused and there is an excruciatingly embarrassing encounter between the two in Mr Burton’s bedroom with both in their pyjamas Does the film bowdlerise the teacher’s complicated but no one is under any illusions about what others were insinuating Jones certainly shows Mr Burton’s sad and dignified loneliness Mr Burton is in UK and Irish cinemas from 4 April Bison who are changing the world to make it a better place right now and for future she was in a leadership position 11 years ago Only time will tell what happened to her and where she is in the modern timeline Prior to appearing in “The Last of Us,” Ubach has starred in several high-profile projects such as “Legally Blonde” and “Meet the Fockers.” She’s also known for her role as Judge Jeanine Pirro in “Bombshell” and for playing Suze in HBO’s “Euphoria.” She also voiced Police were called to the Bristol Rd Kroger after being informed of a potential kidnapping occurring in the parking lot. Once they arrived, officers were told that there was not a kidnapping and that the woman willfully got into the man's car. Once she got in the car, she decided she wanted to leave, and the driver dropped her off at the Kroger. She then walked away from the vehicle and waited for the police to arrive. The man was arrested for unrelated charges. The Burton Police Department said they are thankful for everyone who shared this story and that should it have been a kidnapping, the support would have helped tremendously. Columbus police have identified the teenage male who died after an early morning shooting on the city's North Side that also wounded a second person. Ariyaun M. Burton, 17, and another male were found with gunshot wounds at about 4 a.m. Sunday, May 4, in a Toyota Rav4 SUV at the Sheetz on the 900 block of East Dublin-Granville Road (Route 161), Columbus police said. Officers rendered aid until Columbus Division of Fire medics arrived and transported the two victims to OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital. Burton was pronounced dead at 4:38 a.m. at the hospital, police said in a news release several hours later. The other victim, whom police did not identify, was in stable condition and is expected to survive his injuries. Police got a call at 3:58 a.m. on Sunday, May 4, about a shooting on the 900 block of East Lincoln Avenue near its eastern T dead-end with Roche Drive and Roche Place by the entrance to the Woodward Park Trail, just on the west side of Interstate 71. A police dispatcher said the driver of a Toyota Rav4 SUV called 911 saying that he and his passenger had been shot and were fleeing the scene of the shooting. They were advised to drive into the Sheetz parking lot a short distance away to wait for first responders, who were also dispatched there. Police investigating the shooting had placed at least 17 evidence markers around shell casings found in the street on East Lincoln near Roche, video footage from a local TV station at the scene showed. At the Sheetz, the area around the Toyota SUV parked close to the convenience store was enclosed with crime scene tape. The rear window of the vehicle appeared to have been shot out. Sign up for our free newsletters today Grant said his passion for the Burton Street project stems from two sources: his love of southeast Grand Rapids and his personal experience living with a disability Grant was in a car crash that left him initially paralyzed from the chest down He spent almost a year in inpatient rehabilitation at Mary Free Bed where he regained the ability to walk with assistance he required 24-hour care for a time and also quickly discovered that his parents’ home — and most available housing in Grand Rapids — was not friendly to people with mobility challenges “I learned very quickly that accessible housing in Grand Rapids specifically was not plentiful “I had to stay in (a) hotel for some months while I was looking for accessible housing.” Grant founded Care Granted in 2016 to provide home health care services for elderly and disabled individuals and then later branched out into real estate investing He learned recently of the opportunity to acquire 800 and 806 Burton and decided to tackle his first development He’s under contract to acquire the building from owners Ken and Donna Blessing for an undisclosed sum Grant said he believes the southeast side is the perfect place for him to start his development career and I have so many people who I look up to that helped me and molded me into the person I am today and also the entrepreneur that I am today,” he said and seeing that this community has not necessarily seen the investment that other communities in Grand Rapids have seen … to take some responsibility for that.” Grant said he was inspired not to wait for someone else to step up but to use his own experience to move forward there hasn’t been too much development in this area How about we work on this together?’” he said the Grand Rapids Brownfield Redevelopment Authority approved a $190,000 emerging developer grant for Grant’s project The funding will support predevelopment consulting which are being provided by Grand Rapids-based Collectiv Ventures and Cella Building Company and Grand Rapids Township-based Quantum Construction The city’s emerging developer grant program is funded by the Local Brownfield Revolving Fund fueled by tax captures from brownfield redevelopments across the city City economic development staff noted in a report on the project that the redevelopment aligns with the city’s master plan and the Southtown Corridor Improvement District Area Specific Plan because “it is designed to retain especially minority and locally owned enterprises — while also supporting affordability and building ownership within the community.” economic development coordinator for the city said during a presentation that the project is the first she’s reviewed that is a fully accessible development a partner in Collectiv Ventures and a former city commissioner said at the meeting that the target affordability range is to reserve the units for those making 80% or less of area median income “The universal design is going to be the hallmark component of this and Gabriel’s business is essentially to help others to be able to live with disability in a variety of ways and will be a great story to tell,” Reppart said Grant said transition plans have not yet been worked out for the current tenants of the building Dimension Graphics and Clearway Apostolic Church But he said he would like to give them the opportunity to lease two of the ground floor suites in the new building when it’s finished He would use the third ground-floor suite for Care Granted’s first owned brick-and-mortar location Care Granted employees currently work a hybrid schedule out of a leased Regus coworking space in Grand Rapids he believes the project will be the first new mixed-use building in Grand Rapids that’s fully accessible throughout all residential and commercial units and shared spaces He said the model will meet a long-held dream to better integrate people with disabilities into their community “One of the problems that I have (with) society is we’ve gotten very comfortable with placing individuals with different abilities off to themselves in the corner,” he said whether it’s an individual being in a wheelchair whether it’s a plethora of different things we just kind of set them off to the side.”  “we want them to live fulfilling and thriving lives I wanted to make a building that was 100% accessible.” Grant said pending receipt of the city grant he also hopes to pursue additional city and state funding support to make the project as affordable as possible though it’s too early to project rent ranges affordability and investing in a community that has been missed,” he said not only for the community like myself to invest in itself for the state of Michigan to also invest in described as a miracle worker who "sprinkled belief" after taking Burton Albion from the depths of relegation danger to League One safety When the 53-year-old took charge of the east Staffordshire side in December they were one place and one point off the foot of the table He came in as a permanent replacement for Mark Robinson who became the club's shortest-serving manager when sacked in October after failing to win any of his 11 league games in charge Three defeats and two draws from Bowyer's first five matches had Burton rock bottom and 11 points from safety on 4 January with just 14 points from 24 games It was not until they travelled to Wigan three weeks later that former Dundee and Blackburn boss Bowyer oversaw his first win And it was against that same side on Tuesday at a euphoric Pirelli Stadium that Burton confirmed their place in League One for next season with a draw. Burton deputy chairman Tom Davidson said the turnaround Bowyer had overseen was "nothing short of a miracle" And defender Udoka Godwin-Malife said his boss "had to take credit for what he had done" "Let's have it outright, he came into a club that had no belief at the time," Godwin-Malife told BBC Radio Derby. movie clothes in the 1950s and ’60s Chanel is the cardigan suit and the Little Black Dress but that hardly sets it apart in this town who used to be chief executive of Dior and is today president of LVMH’s fashion group put down a clear line and build from there as a throng of onlookers was spilling into the street and cars were backed up in both directions who spent 27 years at McQueen — she began as a student intern in 1996 and became creative director after his death — and because this was an entirely new opportunity for her There was room for only 300 people at each of the two showings on Friday I saw Toledano greeting guests and beaming Galliano had been invited to the show but was unable to attend and so was Daniel Roseberry of Schiaparelli and their daughters and her mother were also seated in one of several white We were all seated on stacks of large brown paper envelopes not unlike the kind couturiers and tailors used to store patterns Burton told me that two years ago workmen renovating a Givenchy office had literally found buried treasure in a wall — the patterns and notes from Givenchy’s very first collection From my symbolic paper perch in front of a window I saw the actors Vanessa Kirby and Rooney Mara across the crowded room with a black mesh leotard stamped like a dressmaker’s dummy with “Givenchy Paris 1952” and a pair of tubular mesh dresses with flounced viscose hems — meant to echo the skeleton of a couture look — Burton got down to business Her tailoring was not only visually strong and perfect; it also was varied There were coats and suit jackets with bold shoulders with an exposed flat-pressed seam spiraling from the armhole to the wrist to sleeves that were mildly flattened and creased Less visible on some of the tailoring — done in fabrics like mohair a herringbone jacquard — were subtle raw edges intended to keep things from looking too perfect One might say the lines owe something to McQueen like McQueen and Balenciaga and Alaïa and Givenchy belong (more or less) to the same tailoring tradition “The masculine-feminine thing that I do is what I’d like to establish at the house.” what came across in this thoroughly engaging show was confidence In the varied suit shapes (some of which had trousers with an elasticated bit at the back of the waist) and in her balance of sharp fit and comfort she was giving women of diverse ages clothes that felt distinctive but also plainly real And she consistently hit her mark of a Givenchy look in different ways There were minimalist halter dresses in white and pale-pink glove leather; a fantastic black leather bomber with a pair of metal zips running over a puffy shawl collar and worn with a matching supersoft pencil skirt; and a black dinner suit in that heavy crêpe with a short slit at the back of the neck and another at the hem there was often a surprise at the back,” Burton noted Those gestures are also sexy and feminine and Burton offered a lot and at the same left herself places to go Could there have been some dresses for the daylight hours Could she have proposed some softer construction in her tailoring mix Could she have surprised us a lot more with her choice of models Burton had embarked on a completely new chapter of her career as Charles Mingus’s explosive “Haitian Fight Song” still filled the bones of the house people made their way downstairs to congratulate Burton “So how does it feel to have a Paris debut?” I asked Password must be at least 8 characters and contain: you’ll receive occasional updates and offers from New York
