Cabot Creamery is recalling 1,700 pounds of butter after testing found elevated levels of coliform bacteria in the product
affects the brand's 8-ounce Extra Creamy Premium Sea Salted Butter and was distributed in seven states
Agri-Mark told Newsweek it had recovered 99.5 percent of the product before it reached consumers
and there had been no reports of illness or consumer complaints
Coliform bacteria are commonly found in the environment
their presence in food products indicates potential lapses in hygiene during production
Such lapses increase the risk of more harmful pathogens being present
Contaminated dairy products are among the most common sources of such bacterial outbreaks
making early detection and recall critical for public health
According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA)
The affected products are sold in cardboard containers holding two 4-ounce sticks and have a best-by date of September 9
They also carry the lot number 090925-055 and the UPC 0 78354 62038 0
The affected butter was distributed to stores in Vermont
189 cases are being withdrawn from the market
Only 17 packages—or 8.5 pounds of butter—were sold at retail
the FDA gave the recall a Class III risk categorization
indicating it is "a situation in which use of or exposure to a violative product is not likely to cause adverse health consequences."
told Newsweek: "Coliform is a generic term for Gram negative bacteria that are frequently found in the intestine
Finding them would often suggest recent fecal contamination at some point along the production pipeline
She said: "Because the term coliform is a catch all for quite a few different organisms
as some bacteria are more likely to cause harm than others
if enough butter is consumed detection would indicate that the person eating it may develop food poisoning type symptoms
or if the person was particularly vulnerable due to other conditions
more severe illness including blood stream infection."
Cloutman-Green added that there would likely be others who eat the butter and are not affected by the contamination
so there could be a large "spectrum" of how the product could affect a consumer
linked to how much they consume and "how healthy the person was otherwise."
a biological chemistry professor at Imperial College London
told Newsweek that the amount of butter a person would have to consume to feel any side-effects depends on "how contaminated it is
the level of pathogenicity of the particular strain or strains involved
how much is consumed and the susceptibility of the individual."
Agri-Mark told Newsweek: "Agri-Mark has identified the cause and has taken the appropriate internal actions to address it
Agri-Mark is dedicated to food safety and producing quality products and is always monitoring its products for compliance."
Agri-Mark advised consumers to get in touch via email at info@cabotcreamery.com or call 1-888-792-2268 if they are concerned about the product

meaning that it believes the affected products are
"not likely to cause adverse health consequences." Cabot Creamery said in an email that have been no reports of illness or consumer complaints

The recalled butter is packaged as two 4-ounce sticks in cardboard shells
What is coliform?Coliform is a group of bacteria that is found in the feces of mammals, according to the Washington State Department of Health.
Coliform is unlikely to cause illness, according to the department, but its presence suggests that other pathogens could be present. However, E. coli bacteria is a subgroup of coliform
What should I do with recalled butter?Cabot Butter's parent company Agri-Mark did not issue a press release for the recall
where disposal recommendations are usually made
The safest option for dealing with the recalled butter is to discard it or return it to the point of purchase

(KATV) — Cabot High School's Hope Squad is inviting the community to lace up their sneakers and join a walk to raise awareness for mental health and suicide prevention
Coinciding with Mental Health Awareness Month
the walk scheduled for this Saturday coincides with Mental Health Awareness Month
It aims to unite the community in support of those struggling with mental health issues
recognized as a student organization by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention in 2019
has been instrumental in fostering peer support and breaking down social stigmas
"We were the first high school to be recognized as a student organization," said a representative from the Hope Squad
our school district brought in something called Hope Squad
which kind of changed a little bit of the structure of the group
but we still are maintaining the same goal in efforts going forward."
Students involved in the Hope Squad participate in various activities
and outreach programs at local middle schools
"Getting to go out to places and talk to these students really helps to break social stigmas that we have," said Ryan
"We want to break those stigmas so students who are scared to speak to counselors have those opportunities."
"We're just really trying to push it out there
just trying to get everyone in our community and even sometimes out of our community
"Just trying to show that we're united as a community and even potentially as a state
just to support our peers and other people."
The event will kick off with registration at 11 a.m.
starting at the Panther Wall near the arena and looping around Junior High North and Freshman Academy
Speaker of the House Brian Evans will be present to show his support for the initiative
The Hope Squad's mission is to spread peer support across the state
as teens often prefer talking to their peers rather than adults
and they're not just reaching out to kids that are at risk
they're teaching their peers how to identify those risks," said a Hope Squad member

Artifacts spanning thousands of years have been uncovered during work on a new golf course in the Scottish Highlands
a ceremonial circle and a wheel which belonged to a Bronze Age chariot have been among the "properly exceptional" finds revealed during the construction of the Old Petty Championship Golf Course at Cabot Highlands
Excavations were conducted by Avon Archaeology Highland across the site
These revealed at least 25 prehistoric wooden buildings
Other discoveries include remnants of Neolithic wooden buildings
a 3,500-year-old Bronze Age cremation urn and evidence for medieval field systems and grain-drying kilns
adding to Scotland’s rich and layered history
Archaeologists say the findings paint a picture of ancient life in the Highlands
from ceremonial practices to agricultural innovation
between the Middle Ages and 6,000 years ago
vice president of golf development at Cabot
said: "This has been a remarkable journey from prehistoric times to the present
“It’s humbling to think that our new championship course
will rest on such historically rich ground
We're proud to preserve this heritage while creating a world-class golf experience."
Dig netted finds up to 3,000 years oldChief among the finds is a wooden palisade
Inside the outline of the structure was a cremation pit
The circle has now been reburied with the article removed
with its outline still visible on the re-routed course
The name of the course is a nod to the Old Petty Church
which was built in 1839 and sits off what will become the 16th green
The now-unused church is believed to sit at the site of an even older church
and the Old Petty Church is reported to have hosted an unusual custom: Mourners in the early 1800s would run to the church’s graveyard during funerals while carrying the coffin
Cabot revealed Doak’s planned routing for Old Petty in 2023, with holes passing a 400-year-old castle that provided the previous name for the property, Castle Stuart, before the Canadian-based Cabot bought it and rebranded the northern Scottish resort in 2022
More: Where to begin planning a golf trip to Scotland? Here's a pretty good idea
principal archaeologist at Avon Archaeology Highland
praised the collaboration: "The partnership with Cabot Highlands has been exemplary
Their commitment to preserving the past while shaping the future is a model for responsible development
“Close collaboration between developer Cabot Highlands and the archaeology team has enabled the remains of the most important archaeology
for example the prehistoric palisade circle
reburied and landscaped after archaeology investigations - the landscaped palisade circle monument now forms a clearly defined circular landscape feature alongside the fairway of Hole 7 of the new Old Petty course
“By careful design and detail changes to the new course layout
it has been possible to protect and preserve other significant buried archaeological remains that were identified during the evaluation phase.”
He added: “These areas have been preserved in-situ through design and will ensure the survival of substantial areas containing buried archaeology for future generations
"Always happy to see new archaeology emerge from the ground
particularly relating to early Neolithic settlement and later prehistoric ceremonial or funerary activity
The findings will now be documented in detail
with final reports and radiocarbon dating expected later in the year
coinciding with the much-anticipated opening of the new Old Petty golf course
All finds will ultimately be submitted to Treasure Trove Scotland and will most likely be retained by either The National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh or Inverness Museum

is credited with popularizing and spreading the erroneous origins of this apocryphal phrase
its ironic meaning is that “interesting” is a euphemism for tumultuous
I think it’s fair to say we are living in interesting times
Investors have rightly been concerned as the market has given up the very substantial gains of 2024 over the past three months
Cabot has been optimistic about the stock market over the long run
as we’ve helped a lot of people make a lot of money
and while history rarely repeats itself exactly
one response to the current situation is to look at history
This chart shows the depths of intra-year declines in the S&P 500 in the years 1995-2024
as well as the final returns for the calendar year
Data source: https://www.macrotrends.net/2324/sp-500-historical-chart-data
the fact that we have negative returns three and a half months into the year is not unusual and doesn’t mean this year will be a loser
Faced with the kind of volatility we’ve seen in the market in recent weeks
many investors are tempted to pull their money out and wait until things settle down
Investors who exit the market when there’s a substantial disruption incur three primary costs:
1) Locking in Losses: In their haste to get out of a falling market
by the time most of us realize there’s a problem
Less-savvy investors tend to hesitate as well and are punished with even greater losses
2) Missing the Rebound: The best returns often closely follow steep declines
2009’s 26.46% gain followed right on the heels of 2008’s 37.00% drop
and many of the best trading days followed within a week or two of the worst trading days
3) Compounding Impact: One year of missed participation can significantly reduce your long-term wealth
let’s look at a hypothetical $100 investment made in 1995
An investor who stayed fully invested through 2024 would have seen that investment grow to about $1,950 (10.4% annually)
The same investment made by someone who missed even a few of the top-performing days during that period – such as the post-March rally of 2020 – realized drastically reduced returns
Missing the 10 best days in 20 years would have reduced total returns by about 50%
Adding in the panic selling to lock in losses and forfeiting the dividends that could be reinvested can further reduce returns by as much as 40%
I hope I’ve at least helped keep some investors from shooting themselves in the foot
this is only part of what I want to talk about today
on the subject of the interesting times in which we find ourselves
the 800-pound gorilla sitting in the middle of the room
I’m talking about what’s coming out of Washington these days
My regular readers know I do not believe in mixing politics and investing
Good investing is about drawing upon research
and insights to make the best of whatever the market conditions
and investment analysts at Cabot figure out the implications of those policies – which industries
the primary drivers of market conditions are coming out of Washington right now
I am going to absolutely avoid the distraction of talking politics
I don’t recall whether all of this was covered in my undergrad econ courses or in my micro and macro classes from business school
but there are a few basic ideas that have driven the worldview of many economists for most of the last 100 years
Let’s review some that are relevant today:
1) Removing trade barriers permits production to shift to areas with a relative advantage (cheaper labor
2) Independent central banks setting interest rates and other monetary policies reduce the temptation for leaders to goose the economy for short-term advantage with long-term costs
3) Tariffs can help new businesses get a foothold in industries already dominated by other countries
4) Tariffs can protect strategically important industries in a country (rice in China
5) Tariffs are a tax that increases costs that fall disproportionately on small businesses and consumers
(Tariffs used to be the primary revenue source for the Federal government
They were replaced by a progressive income tax because the tax burden fell disproportionately on the little guys.)
6) Widespread tariffs are inflationary because they increase prices and
predictable environment in which to make investments
are preferable to uncertainty and unpredictability
8) Uncertainty in labor markets tends to reduce consumer spending as workers have concerns about job security and pay cuts (especially with the prospect of increased inflation)
9) Companies delay capital expenditures in an unpredictable environment
as it is difficult to project costs and returns
I will note that politicians and economists have often failed to account for those left behind when production shifts to areas of relative advantage
education and physical plants are not as fungible as capital and have a much harder time responding
That has been a serious oversight with real economic
Unless you’ve been vacationing off the grid for the past month
you probably know that all of these ideas have been challenged recently
As we know, the announcement of widespread, and substantial, tariffs – particularly on our biggest trading partners
and Mexico – sent the stock market into a significant decline as many of the concerns noted in the numbered items above were triggered
The prospect of actions being taken to compromise the independence of the Federal Reserve Bank has only heightened concerns of economists
Some of the actions taken in the first three months of the administration can be undone
but some of the impacts will continue to reverberate even so
Now is the time to understand the new conditions and find the best path forward
the Trump administration has taken the U.S
– and global – economy into uncharted waters
the focus of global trade has been on removing barriers
We have not had a period in modern economic times where significant barriers to trade have been added
and certainly not by such a dominant global economic power
We also have not experienced the current level of volatility
in the economic and trade policies of the United States government
There are people who think this new approach is brilliant and will produce a new
many new approaches and ideas seem unworkable
Will this experiment work to produce a better economy
measured by profits and standard of living for stakeholders
It’s too early for anyone to say with certainty
What we can say with certainty is that investors are likely to face turbulence for the foreseeable future
Cabot doesn’t have a crystal ball any more than anyone else does
What we do have is a solid understanding of finance
economics and the history of how markets have behaved in the past
And we follow all relevant market developments and Fed actions
and watch what the institutional investors are doing
As I tried to make clear in the first part of this post
history tells us that staying invested in the market
generally makes a difference in your investing performance
It is in these conditions that the insights and guidance of expert
professional investment analysts can make the biggest impact on your ultimate success
I am here to say I find investing profits pretty interesting
I hope you will let Cabot be your guide to greater profits

More than 1,700lbs of the butter recalled due to product being ‘contaminated with elevated levels of coliform’
A recall has been issued for Cabot Creamery butter in seven US states as the product was found to be contaminated with a bacteria commonly found in fecal matter
More than 1,700lbs of the butter is being recalled due to the product being “contaminated with elevated levels of coliform”, a bacteria found in animals’ digestive tracts and waste, according to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA)
The subject of the voluntary recall is Cabot’s eight-ounce Extra Creamy Premium Sea Salted Butter, according to a 26 March enforcement report
The product code for the recalled butter is UPC 0 78354 62038 0
and it was distributed across seven states
The Cabot butter product comes in packages containing two four-ounce sticks in cardboard shells
The potentially contaminated batch has a best-by date of 9 September 2025
According to a statement from Agri-Mark, the parent company of Cabot Creamery, the company “successfully recovered 99.5% of the lot of the recalled product before it was sold to consumers. A small amount – 17 retail packages (8.5 lbs.) – was sold to consumers in Vermont.”
Agri-Mark added that it has “identified the cause and [has] taken the appropriate internal actions to address it”
The company specified that “no other products were affected”
which is the least serious category and means that exposure to the product is “not likely to cause adverse health consequences”
the agency still advises consumers to return any recalled product to the store where they purchased it or to discard it immediately
Coliform is a family of bacteria commonly found in soil, plants, and the intestinal tracts of humans and animals. It is occasionally detected in Vermont’s private water systems, according to the state’s health department
The presence of the coliform in drinking water is used to determine if it may be unsafe to drink
While most coliform bacteria does not cause illness, some rare strains of E coli, which is a type of fecal coliform bacteria, can lead to serious illness, New York’s department of health says
Testing for coliform bacteria is considered a reasonable indication of whether other pathogenic bacteria are present

the District itself would risk needing to pay the remainder of their legal fees and for any potential post-trial appeal. It was also anticipated that an appeal could potentially extend the case for several more years.
Though the District stands by its actions in this matter
it became a simple business decision to close the drawn-out case
The District admitted no fault and agreed to allow the insurance company to settle the lawsuit and pay its remaining legal fees
The insurance companies contributed $125,000 from the District’s policy and $75,000 from the City of Cabot’s separate policy

The third hole on the Kyle Franz-designed Karoo course
Mike Nuzzo has completely redesigned the former Rolling Oaks into the new Roost course
is officially opening two new 18-hole courses
a nine-hole short layout and 11-hole par-three course on 21 January 2025
Kyle Franz designed the 18-hole Karoo course and co-designed the 18-hole Roost layout with Mike Nuzzo
a collaboration that also saw greens shaped by Rod Whitman and consultancy from Golf Magazine’s architecture editor Ran Morrissett
Nuzzo also designed the Squeeze and the Wedge
The Cabot Collection acquired the former World Woods property and its Pine Barrens and Rolling Oaks courses in 2022
The 7,201-yard Karoo course occupies the same corridors as the Pine Barrens course
with the reversal of the third and sixteenth holes (both par threes)
and the second and seventeenth (both par fours)
fairways and greens have all been expanded and redesigned
Greens now have more contour and a “more sculpted” aesthetic
“The course is a blend of a lot of things that I really like
and I’ve tried to mould it into a style that is our own and allows us to be creative and challenge ourselves,” said Franz
“We have tried to do something that’s fun and we have taken risks
hopefully in areas where everybody really likes them
as we want golfers to walk off and feel like they’ve never played anything quite like it.”
The course has fairways that provide multiple routes of play and are split by large expanses of sand
bunkers and sand waste areas help to create a variety of heroic tee shots and risk-reward lines of play
Karoo’s flexible teeing grounds allow golfers to play a round that suits them on the day – they can opt for an easy carry
“We really tried to get a tremendous amount of elasticity in the redesign where you can play it way forward and way back day to day,” said Franz
The architect highlights that the par-three third could potentially stretch to 292 yards if teeing it all the way back
“The bounce-down slope off the right and the succession of rolls within the green are really cool,” said Franz
“You’ve got to land your ball on the perfect spot on that hillside and it will bounce down to the pin
The pin location at the very back is like a little pedestal.”
The 7,200-yard Roost layout lies on the site of the former Rolling Oaks course
“There were several holes on the old routing that were problematic
and the walk felt challenging,” said Nuzzo
“The terrain was very interesting and significantly impacted the routing… it would be difficult to drastically change the existing corridors
but there seemed to be a deeper distraction to Rolling Oaks
The up-and-down nature felt like a negative when it could have been more positive
“Travelling home after my first visit I sketched a simple routing on an airplane napkin
and the unknown nagging issue jumped out at me
The old routing tacked to the back of the property via an adventurous path
Then the start of the back nine beelined out to the same spot and continued the nice tacking manner until the end of the round.”
Nuzzo’s solution was to have more changes of direction throughout the property
“Our new routing for the Roost now feels like one went out to play without interruption,” he said
“The entire course flows more organically.”
was shifted more in the direction of the third tees – is now more dramatic
The ninth green was moved to turn the hole from a par four to a five
and the tees at ten were shortened to turn the hole from a par five to a short four
“We eliminated the original eighteenth hole,” said Nuzzo
“It felt disjointed in how it played down below what felt like a pond in the sky
“The current sixth plays perpendicular to the old corridor
which included a forced layup tee shot short of a pair of large trees
The new location for the green is located on a dramatic highlight of the site
Nuzzo relocated nine more greens and reversed a five-hole loop
“The holes now play counterclockwise – the five holes [seven and twelve to fifteen] play in the opposite direction from the old greens to the old tees
Morrissett suggested flipping the sequence of seven and sixteen
which Nuzzo says changed the flow and idealised the order of holes by placing the old par-three eighth in the penultimate position of the seventeenth
“We developed a new theme for the course
with more expansive and rolling golf holes that fit this great site,” said Nuzzo
“We expanded and connected the irrigation pond into a course-wide feature that starts on top of the hill and finishes towards the cottages
“The backlands generally don’t drain off the property
much of the land drains to a giant sinkhole
It is a very dramatic feature that was essentially hidden previously
Now we play a one-shot hole directly over the deepest part of the sinkhole to a small green
of a similar playing nature to some of [Cabot developer] Ben Cowan-Dewar’s favourite short holes
Rod Whitman’s design ideas and green shaping have been an enormous part of the project and helped to elevate the interest and enjoyment of the entire golf course
the high points are distributed throughout and by shifting some greens
we were able to create very dramatic vistas
The majestic oaks now stand out more and even act as strategic features on several holes.”

a lively party for some of the brand’s loyal supporters and backers that included a create-your-own cowboy hat bar
and Canadian LPGA star Brooke Henderson hitting the ceremonial opening tee shot on the resort’s newest 18-hole course: Roost
Cabot Citrus Farms is set on the property that used to be home to the former World Woods Golf Club
Cabot founder Ben Cowan-Dewar is aiming big with his first U.S
which is set on a unique Sunshine State landscape that was previously the site of the once-celebrated World Woods Golf Club
In addition to the two completely redone 18-hole courses (Roost and Karoo)
there is a 11-hole Par 3 course known as The Wedge
and a 10-hole short course called The Squeeze that is primarily a blend of par 3 and drivable par 4 holes
There is also a real estate component
with 36 luxury golf cottages in a quaint little village tucked between the courses
The two- and four-bedroom accommodations have a starting sale price of $1.8 million and are available for nightly rental by resort guests
There are also five two-story fairway homes under construction just off the 10th hole of Roost
with a limited number of residences still available and selling for $3.7 million and up

The special Cabot touches the brand is known for are everywhere
The experiential component is core to the Cabot ethos
as the brand is dedicated to providing an elevated guest (and/or member) experience
Trackman technology can be found at every bay on the driving range
the Par 3 course has about a quarter-million dollars in low profile lighting installed for nighttime play
and the on-course comfort stations are fully stocked with almost every food and beverage option conceivable
The Porch is a phenomenal spot for guests and gatherings
centrally situated atop a hill adjacent to The Wedge Par 3 course
The Porch features fire pits and picnic tables along with other comfortable seating areas
plus a lively bar area and a pizza oven for artisan woodfired pies such as the popular Figgy Piggy
The newest golf course is unique in its own right
While many resorts and top destinations in the U.S

who built the Karoo course at Citrus as his first solo design
for what Franz called a complementary collaborative effort

There is one tauntingly in the middle of the fairway on a short par 4 that’s been nicknamed “Mutombo” by some on property
a nod to one of the best shot-blockers in NBA history
there’s also a picturesque par 3 that plays across a 40-foot-deep sinkhole dotted with limestone rock outcroppings
And just on the other side of a neighboring fence line is a bucolic pasture with grazing cattle
