CAMDEN — An afternoon hike up Megunticook Mountain in the Camden Hills State Park turned dark and dangerous for a Texas couple May 4 just as they began their descent from the Ocean Lookout Trail and slipped on the hard granite rocks and the sun had set on a rainy cool spring day As Fire Chief Chris Farley spoke with the couple first from the bottom of mountain at Camden Hills State Park and then as the rescue crew started up the mountain he pinpointed their exact location on the trail had set the coordinates of latitude and longitude and rescuers entered the data into their phones Battie Access Road approximately 700 feet up Mt The Tablelands Trail begins with a moderate incline before it ascends steeply toward the summit of Megunticook An initial crew of four started out with medical equipment hiking quickly up the trail to find the couple Another crew of five followed with more equipment and manpower waited near the top of the mountain on the Ocean Lookout Trail had fallen on a slippery rock and injured his back Communication between Farley and the couple by phone continued as the firefighters climbed 2.8 miles After moving through several trail junctures quickly followed by the wagging of her tail the work of helping them down the mountain began After assessing for injuries and hypothermia the couple determined they wanted to walk down with crews steadying the two at every step and making use of the stone steps built at the height of the Depression by the Civilian Conservation Corps government created jobs for the thousands of unemployed strategically built at the steepest points in the mountain terrain have been maintained by Camden Hills State Park and served the rescue crews and the couple well the headlamps and flashlights illuminated the way bouncing light off the reflective firefighter coats and cutting through the fog that moved in off of the ocean we give a shout out to our crew for their patience and diligence in ensuring these fine folks made it home wet the couple went to Pen Bay Medical Center to be evaluated "Our advice," said Farley: "Know the terrain you are hiking in know the area you are hiking in and be familiar with trail routes." Can you walk us through your typical workday A typical day in my internship involves a mix of technical maintenance all centered around integrating VR and AR into classroom environments This involves checking the system’s performance ensuring all software and hardware are up to date and troubleshooting any issues that may arise Keeping the system running smoothly is crucial as any technical problems could slow down development and testing I shift my focus to researching and developing ways to incorporate VR and AR into educational settings This process begins with analyzing how a particular class is structured—examining teaching methods I then begin designing and developing training software tailored to the subject matter This step involves not only coding and building the software but also ensuring that it is engaging interactive and user-friendly for both students and instructors The final stage of my day revolves around documentation I create detailed guides on how the software operates outlining step-by-step instructions for professors on how to integrate it into their classes This documentation is essential for ensuring that faculty can effectively use the technology and maximize its benefits for students What have you enjoyed most about your internship What I enjoy most about my internship is that I’m paving the way for a new system at VCSU The CSSE Department is the first to explore how we can integrate new technology into the classroom using VR headsets This opportunity allows me to be at the forefront of innovation helping to shape how immersive technology can enhance learning experiences there’s also the challenge of developing these programs VR development is quite different from traditional software development as users don’t have the usual keyboards or controllers to interact with I have to consider new ways for users to engage with the system making interaction feel natural and intuitive Learning to create these programs has been a complex but rewarding experience as it pushes me to expand my skills and think outside the box and how do you see this internship helping you achieve them My career goals are to hopefully stay local in North Dakota I plan on looking to go into the government sector for a couple of years to gain experience in the workforce and from there maybe make the jump into the private sector What advice do you have for someone looking for an internship my biggest advice is to branch out and make connections These events give you a chance to see what opportunities are out there and allow you to get your name out to potential employers It’s also a great idea to talk to your professors Many businesses reach out to university departments looking for interns and professors often have connections that can help you find opportunities Meeting with them and expressing your interest can open doors you might not have known existed being proactive and staying open to different possibilities will increase your chances of finding a great internship CAMDEN COUNTY, Ga. – Two days after a shooting in Camden County left a pastor dead and his grandson in the hospital community and church leaders spoke with News4JAX about the kind of man he was and how they want others to remember him also known as “Pastor Joe,” was shot and killed on Sunday afternoon in a gated community No arrests have been made in connection with the shooting Clark served as a pastor at First Baptist Church of Harrietts Bluff in Woodbine where he was known as a “faithful man of God.” “I want people to remember him for all the good he did without asking for anything deacon at First Baptist Church of Harrietts Bluff and the world’s a lot darker without him.” RELATED | ‘Faithful man of God’: Church identifies pastor as man killed in Camden County shooting; his grandson was injured Marcos Bosque, senior pastor at the church, said Clark’s mother works in the children’s ministry. “He seemed to be just an upstanding guy every time I met with him and talked to him. He’s really good character. He’s a family man. He loves the Lord. And so hearing this whole thing just breaks my heart,” Bosque said. Bosque said he never thought something like this would ever happen to Clark. “I would never imagine that Joe would be in a confrontation that would create a problem like this. This was not a he’s not a confrontational person. You know, as I look at it, I don’t think that he would have done anything to create a situation. I don’t think he could harm a flea. He really wasn’t that guy,” Bosque said. Dan Woldren, a deacon at the church and Clark’s Sunday school teacher, said Clark quit his job as a truck driver to dedicate more time to his family and the church. And he was already making a huge impact on the young men in the community. “He had a big effect on them, which you know, he helped them come to know the Lord. And when you have somebody that big effect in your life, and then all of a sudden they’re gone. That’s going to affect you greatly,” Woldren said. On Monday, Camden County deputies said the investigation was still active and investigators were reviewing multiple security camera videos from the area. “This footage will play a key role in helping us understand the events that occurred,” the sheriff’s office wrote in a press release. Bosque said he has been in contact with the sheriff’s office and is hopeful the community will get answers. “I spoke to Sheriff Cheney, and he told me, be assured that we’re going to do everything we can to investigate the situation, and I’m confident that he’s going to do a good job. I’m not worried about it. He’s a man of his word. He’s a man of integrity,” Bosque said. Gross said he wants people to remember Clark for being a light in the community. “You have people when the road gets tough and suddenly they disappear, and you have people that when the road gets rough, stand by you, pick you up, support you, help you. Do whatever they can to help you. That is the type of human being Pastor Joe was,” Gross said. Funeral services for Clark will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday and it will be open to the community. Kremer has a 7.40 ERA and has yet to complete six innings in any of his six starts this year Perhaps the chance to finally pitch at Camden Yards again will help Kremer five of Kremer’s six starts this year have come on the road All five have been lousy (including one in Kansas City on April 4) His best outing of the season was his lone home start whom he held to just one run in 5.1 innings who is averaging more than two home runs per nine should be happy to face a non-slugging Royals lineup that has hit a league-worst 15 dingers this year CF Cedric MullinsSS Gunnar HendersonC Adley RutschmanDH Ryan O’Hearn1B Ryan Mountcastle2B Jackson HollidayLF Ramón LaureanoRF Heston Kjerstad3B Emmanuel Rivera LF Jonathan IndiaSS Bobby Witt Jr.1B Vinnie Pasquantino3B Maikel Garcia2B Michael MasseyDH Mark CanhaRF Drew WatersC Freddy FerminCF Kyle Isbel But in the case of David Feldman of Camden 516 is the number of hours he volunteered at AIO Food and Energy Assistance (AIO) and Midcoast Habitat for Humanity during 2024 Long recognized as a “super volunteer” David was recently awarded Maine’s Volunteer of the Year Award for not only his tireless help at these two non-profits last year but his community involvement over the past 13 years since he and his wife Felicia retired and relocated to the Mid-Coast April 26th David formally received his award from Governor Janet Mills in Augusta the Governor's Awards for Service and Volunteerism have celebrated and recognized the role of citizen volunteers in the success and vitality of Maine communities The awards seek to inspire every Maine citizen to be active in civic life and follow in the footsteps of those recognized Volunteers are the hidden muscle of community strength and resilience They understand the issues their communities face and then donate their time and talent to implementing the solutions “I wasn’t born in Maine but I got here as soon as I could,” said David Feldman “After a long and satisfying career in New York City construction I am able to bring my experience and knowledge to help my neighbors and my community in my adopted home Volunteering at AIO and Midcoast Habitat gives me a great sense of accomplishment Sometimes I feel I get more out of it than the recipients of my efforts.” “David plays such an important role for AIO in keeping our facilities operating and looking good,” says Alan Kearl “With more than 500 people coming to the AIO market each week detailed attention to the needs of the building keep the building a welcoming place for visitors We are incredibly grateful to David for his dedication and support and couldn’t be more pleased that he is being recognized beyond our walls.” Executive Director of Midcoast Habitat for Humanity notes “(David) has demonstrated what it means to be a true volunteer His participation in constructing affordable housing and generosity toward our efforts have not only supported our mission but also inspired others.” 2025Crews battled flames and heavy smoke after a building caught fire Friday morning in Camden (WPVI) -- Crews battled flames and heavy smoke after a building caught fire Friday morning in Camden along the 1100 block of South Broadway near Kaighn Avenue Firefighters remained on the scene for hours putting out hot spots The cause of the fire is under investigation The O’s will look for their first three-game win streak of the season as Tomoyuki Sugano looks to continue his scoreless innings streak Where to watch: FOX, foxsports.com Probable pitchers: RHP Tomoyuki Sugano (3-1 It’s May 3rd, and the 2025 Orioles have yet to win three games in a row. Yet, after winning Friday’s series opener against Kansas City, the Orioles now have won back-to-back for only the second time all season. Tonight, they’ll send their de facto ace to the mound looking for that all too elusive “winning streak” For those who want to believe May will be the month the Orioles start to turn this season around Dean Kremer dominating last night and Sugano taking the mound today together give fuel to that optimism The 35-year-old Japanese rookie has been the Orioles’ most consistent starter through 1+ month of the 2025 season He’s shown an ability to quickly adapt to major league hitters and seems to be becoming more confident with every start Sugano showed a side to his game we’d yet to see since he joined O’s He racked up an MLB career-high eight strikeouts while generating 17 whiffs Sugano came into that start against New York with only nine Ks in all of 2025 so to see him baffle the AL’s most potent offense felt like a major step toward proving he’s a legitimately above-average major league starter The man they call Tommy Sugar will face the Royals for the second time this season and should feel confident after the outing he had in Kauffman Stadium Sugano pitched 5.1 innings of one-run ball in Kansas City propelling the Orioles to an 8-1 win—their only W of that series The former pitching triple-crown winner in Japan befuddled the Royals by consistently attacking low in the zone with his cutter The only mistake Sugano made that day was hanging a curveball to Bobby Witt Jr. What might make Orioles fans particularly uneasy about this matchup is the pitcher opposing Sugan it’s reason enough for Birdland to get concerned The O’s are dead last in the MLB with a .172 average and .236 slugging percentage against LHPs General Manager Mike Elias recently took the blame for the Orioles' disheartening start to the season and part of Elias’ shortcomings are down to the players he signed/kept on the roster to hit lefties Jorge Mateo is hitting .222 against lefties with only two extra-base hits Ramón Laureano is even worse with a .125 average and only one extra-base knock vs Mateo and Laureano both make the lineup tonight against Bubic who dominated the O’s four weeks ago in Kauffman The 27-year-old lefty held the Orioles to one unearned run over 6.2 innings at the beginning of April only giving up four hits and striking out eight Hyde went heavy on right-handed bats that day despite Bubic being a reverse splits pitcher Hyde has taken a half measure to correct that Ryan O’Hearn and Heston Kjerstad in to square off with Bubic The O’s will also have Coby Mayo on the bench for the first time all season 2 prospect getting the call up after Ramón Urías landed on the IL with a hamstring strain
