This year’s 12th edition of the Scary Movies festival at Film at Lincoln Center premiered Ari Aster’s extended version of “Midsommar” this past Saturday
James Cameron has spent the past 25 years deeply involved with ‘Avatar,’ but he remains committed to eventually moving forward with “Ghosts of Hiroshima,” his next project outside the ‘Avatar’ universe
Although ‘Hiroshima’ has been in development for some time, it’s just gained a bit of momentum — Deadline reports that Martin Sheen has signed on to narrate the audiobook “Ghosts of Hiroshima,” which Cameron will adapted to the screen
Cameron has acquired the rights to Charles Pellegrino’s novel and intends to begin work on a “bold
uncompromising theatrical film” as soon as the schedule allows following the completion of the Avatar sequels
The book’s release coincides with the 80th anniversary of the 1945 atomic bombing
The film adaptation will partly center on the real-life account of a Japanese man who lived through the Hiroshima bombing
and endured the second nuclear blast there
Pellegrino’s work incorporates firsthand testimonies from survivors along with insights from the emerging field of forensic archaeology
“It’s a subject that I’ve wanted to do a film about
that I’ve been wrestling with how to do it
“I met Tsutomu Yamaguchi a survivor of both Hiroshima and Nagasaki
He was handing the baton of his personal story to us
I can’t turn away from it.” While visiting Yamaguchi
Cameron and Pellegrino pledged to “pass on his unique and harrowing experience to future generations.”
Hiroshima is poised to become Cameron’s first non-‘Avatar’ feature since 1997’s “Titanic.” He began developing the original ‘Avatar’ in 1999
it’s dominated his creative focus ever since
Cameron will have devoted nearly three decades almost exclusively to the Avatar franchise by 2027
That’s not to suggest the time was wasted—Cameron’s passion for the series is clear
and the films have achieved remarkable box office success
as someone who was captivated by the groundbreaking visual and visceral thrills of “The Terminator,” “Terminator 2: Judgement Day,” “Aliens,” and “Titanic,” I can’t help but feel eager for the arrival of this next film
Early last year, Cameron shared his intention to film ‘Hiroshima’ before beginning work on ‘Avatar 4.’ Hopefully, that plan is still in motion, though he remains deeply involved in the post-production process. A few months later, Cameron confirmed that development was already underway for ‘Avatar 6’ and ‘Avatar 7.’

Reduce eye strain and focus on the content that matters
Daz Cameron was on a heater, as they say, at Class AAA Nashville when he was added to the Milwaukee Brewers' roster last weekend in St
From there it was immediately into the freezer for the outfielder
who was added to provide depth after Garrett Mitchell was sidelined by a left oblique strain
Thus, Cameron was 0 for 4 with a walk in four games until Sunday afternoon, May 4, when he delivered a key run-scoring single as part of a game-turning sixth inning against the Chicago Cubs at American Family Field
"I was just talking to our people about it," said manager Pat Murphy, whose team went on to win, 4-0
"This kid's going so good at Triple-A and we're catching him at a really good time
But is it fair to him to sit him and bring him off the bench
"But (Isaac) Collins is playing so well defensively and offensively
he's getting the chance to play for the first time
BOX SCORE: Brewers 4, Cubs 0
Cameron started the day on the bench but was pressed into action in the fourth inning after Sal Frelick was lifted with an injury
Cameron flew out his first time up before coming through in the sixth
His opportunity came with the Brewers nursing a slim 1-0 lead
which came courtesy a Julian Merryweather wild pitch immediately after Shota Imanaga – who had dominated up to that point – strained his left hamstring covering first base and had to be removed from the game
Merryweather went on to intentionally walked Rhys Hoskins to put two on with two outs for Cameron
who sent an 0-1 slider to right that scored Christian Yelich
making it 2-0 while also keeping the line moving
Cameron stole second and then he was able to trot home from there after Durbin lined a hustle double to center that made it 4-0
"It's tough," Cameron said of being ready to play off the bench
"The routine has to be done before the game to continue to prepare so when my name is called I'm prepared to go face the pitcher that's on the mound
"Hitting in the cage between innings so that I can come through clutch and be able to perform to the best of my ability and help get a win for the team on that day."
Making the moment even sweeter was the fact Cameron's father, Mike, a former Brewers centerfielder
To see a convincing victory was just as cool – and necessary – for Murphy and the Brewers
"That's the kind of victory that we've got to have," said Murphy
left the game with what the team termed as left knee discomfort that first cropped up during his lone at-bat in the second inning
"We're getting it checked out right now," Murphy said after the game
the Brewers can ill afford to lose Frelick for any length of time
Cameron's role will suddenly expand with Milwaukee's alignment likely to be Collins in left
Jackson Chourio in center and Cameron in right
then Daz will probably get more of a chance," Murphy said
Cameron is just seeking an opportunity to be a regular contributor
His professional career began with immense promise after he was taken 37th overall out of high school in the 2015 draft
Cameron is playing for his fourth organization and would like to grab a foothold after playing a career-high 66 games for the A's in 2024
"Understand there's going to be times where there are going to days where you're going to win and days where you're going to lose
Staying together as a team is most important
It was at least mildly curious when Murphy lifted Freddy Peralta after six innings with his pitch count at only 89
the skipper explained afterward – Peralta tweaked his right groin in the midst of an at-bat against Ian Happ at the start of the sixth
"But he's got good strength; the trainers checked him out
was in reference to the absurd amount of injuries the Brewers have suffered in their starting rotation to date
The good news was that no intervention may be needed
"It was something minor that I felt," he said
"After that I was feeling it for the next seven
I decided to let them know that my job was done for the day
But it's nothing that I have to be concerned about
"I did some work already and I think I'm going to be fine."
It was another outstanding start by Peralta – four hits
seven strikeouts – in a game the Brewers simply had to have
I'll throw any pitch in any count.' His changeup was great today
Everybody knows Fastball Freddy; they're going to get the heater

Peralta continues success with 6 scoreless innings in first May startMay 4th
MILWAUKEE -- Mike Cameron's 17 years in the big leagues taught him that sometimes it takes just the smallest spark to fuel a turnaround
And that’s just what he witnessed in the sixth inning on Sunday, when the Brewers capitalized in the wake of Cubs starter Shota Imanaga’s early exit and rode a four-run rally to a 4-0 victory at American Family Field
It denied Chicago what would have been its first series sweep in Milwaukee in 10 years -- and Cameron’s son
The spark came courtesy of Cubs reliever Julian Merryweather
whose first offering after Imanaga injured his hamstring was a run-scoring wild pitch
Daz Cameron’s RBI single and Caleb Durbin’s two-run double padded the lead
Abner Uribe and Trevor Megill protected it by combining for a five-hit shutout to snap a three-game losing streak
“I’m really proud of our ballclub to respond the way we did,” Brewers manager Pat Murphy said

Frelick was undergoing an MRI scan on Sunday evening to determine the severity of his injury
which comes with the Brewers already missing starting center fielder Garrett Mitchell (oblique) and 2024 Gold Glove Award finalist Blake Perkins (fractured shin)
The backup plan at the moment is 28-year-old Cameron
who entered Sunday 0-for-4 with a walk over his first week with the Brewers
“I try to be low-key when I go to places to see him play
but this is a little more special because I actually played hare,” said Mike Cameron
“He got a chance to run around on the field when he was here at 12 years old
“It was exciting that he’s here,” Daz Cameron said
“Now that I’m seeing all the kids here [in the clubhouse]

Mike Cameron was a Brewers regular, but Daz has been biding his time since a promotion from Triple-A Nashville, where he’d homered six times in 11 power-packed games following a trade from Baltimore’s Triple-A affiliate.
Upon his call-up, the Camerons joined Tito and Terry Francona and Davey and Derrick May as the only father-son duos in Brewers history.
“Daz hasn’t got to play a ton, but we know what type of player he is,” Durbin said. “There’s a lot of confidence there when he’s up at the plate. With two outs, that was a big hit for him.”
After Cameron stole second base, Durbin’s two-run double represented another big hit for the Brewers, who had not led in any point of their previous three games while getting outscored by a 24-2 margin. Peralta gave his team a chance by holding the potent Cubs lineup scoreless on four hits through six innings before he departed at the 89-pitch mark with a minor groin issue.
“Since I got here this morning, I knew the importance of this game for this team, for me and the guys,” Peralta said. “We were going to do what we had to do to get a win and turn the page.”
By the bottom of the sixth, he finally had the run support that he the Brewers needed.
“You saw how the energy came in that inning,” said Peralta, who credited Christian Yelich for legging out a fielder’s choice to extend the inning on the play that saw Imanaga injured. “It was awesome. I’m happy to get some runs.”
The Brewers will aim to keep it going when the Astros come to Milwaukee on Monday night, but Mike Cameron expected his visit to be brief. He prefers to let Daz play without dad looking over his shoulder.
“The pitching would kill me right now,” Mike Cameron said. “I don’t miss the sliders. I don’t miss any of the anxiety, the nerves that it brings. I’m kind of over that now. But I get a chance to see it now in a different perspective, and a different set of nerves, wishing that my kid will have an opportunity to play well. I know how tough it is to play at the Major League level.”

Daz Cameron, whose first hit as a member of the Milwaukee Brewers played a big role in the team's 4-0 win over the Chicago Cubs on Sunday
found a moment in the spotlight with his father
With Sal Frelick needing an MRI on his sore knee
it's possible we see more of Cameron in the coming weeks
Here's what to know about the Brewers outfielder. Cameron was a guest on this week's Journal Sentinel Brewers podcast, "Microbrew":
He was drafted in the first round by the Houston Astros in 2015
How did Daz Cameron do in the minor leagues? He only played 11 games at Class AAA Nashville
stole three bases and amassed a ridiculous 1.273 OPS in 52 plate appearances
the former first-round pick has a .765 OPS in the minors
He hasn't found that same success in the major leagues
15 career stolen bases and a .263 on-base percentage
Mike Cameron played 17 years in the big leagues as an outfielder
The former season was particularly memorable as the year the club snapped its 26-year playoff drought
with Cameron contributing heavily to the team's 90-win season
The Brewers signed him as a 34-year-old free agent before that season
and he became the team's regular starting center fielder
He battled .243 that year with an .809 OPS and belted 25 homers
tied for the second-best mark of his career
Cameron hit another 24 and again drove in 70 runs
In the unforgettable 2008 finale against the Cubs
Cameron singled in the eighth against Bob Howry and was on base when Ryan Braun belted a go-ahead home run with two outs
the necessary runs in a 3-1 win that helped Milwaukee clinch the National League wild card
Mike Cameron was a one-time all-star (2001 with Seattle) and also played with the Chicago White Sox
He last played Major League Baseball in 2011
who was 11 and 12 during his father's two seasons in Milwaukee
has vivid memories of those Brewers seasons
including playing in the cages with Trevor Hoffman's kids during the 2009 season
"I can remember going to the ballpark every day
most of the time when guys were going to the field early," Cameron said
just to see every guy go about his business and prepare for the game and his routine."
75 on MLB Pipeline's list of top 100 prospects in 2016
a year after the Astros made him a first-round pick
he was just behind current Cub Kyle Tucker and ahead of current Cub Ian Happ
both of whom played for Chicago against Cameron in the May 2-4 series
Cameron was a top-10 prospect in the Detroit Tigers organization after the club acquired him in the deal that sent Justin Verlander to Houston
Cameron made his Major League debut in 2020 and played in 73 games for Detroit over the next three years
but he was unable to land a full-time starting gig
He spent the 2022 season in the Orioles organization and signed as a free agent with Oakland before last season before the Orioles again purchased his contract after the 2024 season
Has a father-son combination ever played for the Brewers before? This is the third instance. Tito Francona played his final big-league games with the inaugural Milwaukee Brewers team in 1970
current Cincinnati Reds manager Terry Francona
also played his final two years in Milwaukee
Dave May was teammates with Tito in 1970 and played with the Brewers from 1970 through 1974
including an all-star 1973 season in which May led the league in total bases (295) and hit 25 home runs
May was traded before the 1975 season for Hank Aaron
who returned to the Brewers for two final seasons in Milwaukee
Dave May returned briefly to the Brewers in 1978
signed as a free agent before the season before getting traded to Houston
As Cameron Smotherman approaches his second UFC fight this Saturday against Serhiy Sidey
the vibes are quite different from his first one
when he got a call on a Tuesday night asking him if he wanted to fly to Las Vegas to make his UFC debut against Jake Hadley
he wonders if he’s been doing things wrong the whole time
Saturday's Fight By Fight Preview
“That fight actually shifted my perspective on what getting ready for a fight means,” said Smotherman. “What is a fight camp and all this and that? At the end of the day, we already know how to fight. So it's like, what are we doing for six to 12 weeks before? It's better to just get in there where you don't have to think about nothing, to just make weight and go fight. You always hear about over-training and stuff like that, and I probably am a victim of that myself.”
Smotherman is probably not the first person to feel that way, but he may be the first to say it. That honesty is rare, and it makes the 27-year-old one of the most compelling prospects in the bantamweight division. That, and the talent that got him here in the first place. Not that it was an easy road for the 12-4 Texan, who nearly stamped his ticket to the UFC in 2023 when he faced Charalampos Grigoriou on Dana White’s Contender Series.
View this post on Instagram A post shared by Cameron Smotherman (@lilcampster)
Grigoriou stopped Smotherman and sent him back to the drawing board. You might assume that three wins on the regional circuit and one in the UFC would have erased the memory of that loss (and his other three defeats)
“So a part of me is still trying to plot and scheme away to get my rematches because it drives me nuts
I feel like things happened how they needed to
It's just the fact that I can't get it back and I can't fight him again
It drives me nuts and I feel like I'll never get over it.”
but it shows that Smotherman isn’t settling
That attitude will serve him well in Des Moines
as he takes on a fighter in Sidey who may take him into deep waters

Mark Pope waved to Kentucky fans as he walked off the court after a UK win last season
Despite injuries that dramatically changed lineup options for coach Mark Pope
Kentucky managed to beat eight top 15 teams last season
reached the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 and even beat national champion Florida
Pope’s teammate on UK’s 1996 national championship team
says what Kentucky fans saw this year is what they should expect going forward
the very first thing I did was think about
what’s the difference going to be?’ And I say this with no disrespect to Coach Cal
but what I knew was coming because of who Mark is was a culture change,” said Mills
I’m saying I knew a culture change was coming because Mark is going to be himself.”
Mills said even former Pope teammates thought it was “our boy coming back” and he would have plenty of time for them
because he knows the expectations of this place
clearly wanting to have a good first year,” Mills
who does radio and video work for UK basketball
“I’m not saying he wasn’t all business when he played
when you’re in your 20s and practice is over you go hang out with your boys and have fun
It wasn’t that way with Mark during the season.”
Mills said he really wasn’t sure how much Pope even slept during the season because he “worked his tail off” every day leaving nothing to chance
“He was preparing his team to win games in the NCAA Tournament but at the same time I had to be recruiting the (transfer) portal,” Mills said
“The season played out exactly how I thought it would
I actually didn’t think we would be as good as we were but the culture change that I expected
Mills said being around the team and watching and talking to players and coaches was a “different” atmosphere from previous years
“His players are the best recruiting tools we have right now because they’re talking about what it meant to play for this guy
and someone like me can only talk about what it was like to play with this guy
but I can’t imagine what it’s like
what it’s like to play for this guy.”
Pope signed autographs and interacted with fans after most games
He bought ice cream for fans who stayed for a radio show when he didn’t have time to sign autographs
He did every press conference and radio show himself
Pope found time to do numerous local and national radio shows
Is there any way he can keep that up at that pace next year along with the work he puts into his team
That’s the culture I’m talking about in part
and he gets it in a way that only a former player could get it,” Mills said
“I know Coach (Joe B.) Hall was here as a player
“But the thing I love about Mark is that he’s always ultra positive
from the ice cream to buying gas to get people to Milwaukee (for the NCAA Tournament)
that’s not Mark placating or trying to butter up the fans
That’s just Mark and that is not going to change.”
That’s not true and its far from the truth
When Matt said that even Brandon Garrison was like "What are you talking about" all his players love him because he’s a real genuine person
Just heard we got a 7’1 center from Miami
215 can play the stretch 4 or the 5 in a pinch
but will Garrison move out there to make room for Quaintance and Moreno in the 5 spot
Potter supposedly shot 35% from the arc last year
This allows Dioubate to start at the 3 spot where he will be a matchup nightmare
Rebounding and post defense should be solid
It looks like Noah and Chandler will ride the pine again
9 has never been more of a possibility than now

makes MLB debut in spot start for Ragans (groin)April 30th
TAMPA -- The Royals are skipping ace lefty Cole Ragans’ start on Wednesday as he continues to recover from the mild left groin strain that he suffered on Thursday against the Rockies
Instead, the Royals called up lefty Noah Cameron, their No. 5 prospect
to make his Major League debut against the Rays at George M
Ragans could make his next start as early as this weekend in Baltimore or next week when the Royals host the White Sox at Kauffman Stadium
He’s scheduled to throw a bullpen sometime this week in Tampa to assess how he feels before the Royals decide the rotation schedule
“He wanted to pitch tomorrow,” manager Matt Quatraro said on Tuesday before the Royals' 3-1 series-opening victory against the Rays
just making sure that when he does pitch again
Both Quatraro and Ragans were optimistic that the starter wouldn’t need an injured list stint
who exited his start against the Rockies after three innings
feels better each day with activities and stuff like that
Don’t want it to turn into something more serious than it needs to be
and then give it a few more days to get it out of there and get to feeling better and go from there.”
The Royals knew they’d likely have to dip into their pitching depth at some point this year, and Cameron was their top option.
“There’s a lot to like about him,” Quatraro said. “He’s got good stuff, he’s got good poise. We think he can get righties and lefties out. He’s physical. … He worked on the cutter last year, added the slider this spring. He’s got a plus changeup, plus curveball. He’s got a lot of stuff we like.”
Cameron is a native of St. Joseph, Mo., and grew up a Royals fan living just north of Kansas City. He was the club’s seventh-round pick in the 2021 Draft out of Central Arkansas. After some injuries early in his career -- including Tommy John surgery that he had while still in college -- Cameron has steadily improved throughout his time in the Minors.
He has a five-pitch mix after adding a slider this spring. While he doesn’t overpower hitters with his 92-93 mph fastball, his game is all about his command. Cameron’s 9.0% walk rate in the small sample size of five starts this year is the highest it’s ever been; he had a 5.1% walk rate in Triple-A last year (6.7% between the two levels).
On Wednesday, he’ll get a chance to show that skillset for his hometown team in the big leagues.
Cameron David Oxford, 32, of Hampstead, passed away on Tuesday, April 29th, 2025 at his home.
He was born on August 30th, 1992, in Barberton, Ohio, to Herschol Wayne Oxford II and Judith (Salay) Oxford.
In addition to his parents, Cameron is also survived by his sisters, Haley Hanegan and Haley Oxford; his niece, Hazley Hanegan; his nephew, Zachary Buie Jr.; his grandmothers, Joyce Rossiter and Joyce Smith; his grandfather Joseph Salay Sr.; his great grandfather, Ernest Groskopf Sr; his great grandmother Bobbi Groskopf; special friend Kat Voli; and numerous aunts, uncles, and other family and friends.

PREVIEW: Track & Field Hosts Cameron Burrell Invitational
Announce Changes to Meet Schedule4/30/2025 1:50:00 PM | Track and Field
Cougars to compete Thursday and Friday; Set to recognize seniors on Friday
It’s a warm, summery day in early April when I sit down with archivist, writer, and guitarist Cameron Knowler on the shores of Old Hickory Lake in Middle Tennessee
Both Knowler and myself happen to now live in Old Hickory
a small village in Davidson County that was formerly a DuPont company town and is nestled on the edges of the eponymous
manmade US Army Corps of Engineers lake on the Cumberland River
and ecologically – from Knowler’s hometown of Yuma
and foreground of his stunning new solo guitar album
Knowler’s upbringing in Yuma was traumatic and bleak
not exactly a storybook experience by any measure
the landscapes and dioramas of the wild west California/Arizona border town have become the guitarist-composer’s primary muse
Like mesquite and cactuses and roadrunners and mesas and red rocks
Stark flatpicked and finger-plucked melodies give equal consideration and immortalization to sweeping natural landscapes and small
Unlike so many of his subjects and inspirations in and around Yuma
this collection of compositions never moves to pave over the intricacies
and subversions Knowler finds in revisiting his hometown in music and memories
the album is as gorgeous and transportive as any of our favorite famous paintings of the old west
Perhaps his subject is a strip mall or a vignette of the proverbial “suburban hell,” but in this context each feels like an entire universe unto itself
CRK opens with a gorgeous prose poem set to music
a track titled “Christmas in Yuma.” Immediately
the record is thereby attached through terroir and tradition to other western artists like Steinbeck and McCarthy
The album’s package is ornamented with gorgeous photographs
further evoking artists we associate with the Southwest like Dorothea Lange and Linda Hogan
But the stories herein are told almost exclusively by guitar – usually Knowler solo as centerpiece
but sometimes joined by ensembles including guitarists Jordan Tice (who co-produced the project) and Rich Hinman
as well as other instrumentalists like Rayna Gellert
The guitar is an instrument so pervasive and ubiquitous we often forget how aptly it can showcase these kinds of narratives
and how at home the six-string always feels in the West
But making an impressive guitar album was clearly not Knowler’s goal
with his medium being the guitar and the traditions that encircle it
To say the project is successful in this regard would be an embarrassingly trite understatement
while watching the springtime water birds and snacking on lunch – with Knowler’s neck
and fingers dripping in Native-smithed silver and turquoise – we two sat down on the banks of a long
twisting lake on the Cumberland River in Nashville to discuss the guitar
and the little town on the banks of the Colorado River called Yuma – that Cameron Knowler once
I’m obsessed with how music has been slowly but surely divorced from its relationship to place over time
what jumped out at me immediately was it has such a strong relationship to place
geographical – a place like Yuma or Old Hickory Lake – and translate that into your medium
How do you think about evoking landscape or evoking an image with music
Cameron Knowler: That’s a great question
music is getting divorced from place and I think it’s something of a cliche at this point that we’re losing regionalism
Virginia are different than fiddlers in northern Virginia
I didn’t [have] an old man or an old woman playing a fiddle who taught me tunes
the “white kid from the suburbs” phenomenon happened
I got connected with a regional fiddler in Terlingua
which was interesting in that he learned a lot from Brad Leftwich when they were young and living in Santa Barbara
Then it flips, because there is a robust fiddle tradition of the Tohono O’odham [Nation] right there on the Yuma
“I’m gonna learn this tune” – or melody or whatever
Then that [could be] my way into the landscape
Instead of coming at it from an internal perspective
Like an oil painter painting Tucson or Walpi
’cause you can’t go on stage and say
this instrumental song is about a grocery store that I grew up driving by.” [Laughs] I can’t say that
I think that’s where I can insert song titles – all the song titles on the record are related to Yuma
There’s this tradition of stark solo or nearly solo acoustic guitar as an iconic sound of the “wild west.” One of the first things I thought about listening to CRK is the score and soundtrack for Brokeback Mountain
Then of course in other music that evokes the west
you have sweeping strings and countrypolitan country & western
Even in that context you’ll often hear nylon-string guitar out front
There’s something about unadorned guitar that is connected to landscapes
But what I’m hearing you say is it’s not about translating the grandeur of western landscapes at all
or it’s about the building that burned down
or it’s about a stretch of miles and miles of highway
There’s so much programmed into the sound
“The sound of a minor chord is a cowboy dying,” which is such a great way of saying that
I believe this is true of the development of the flat-top guitar in general
when the dreadnoughts start to get developed
there’s something about that that conveniently carries forward the agenda of interrelated musics – like Hawaiian music and bluegrass music for two totally different agendas
Then that [sound and body style] becomes the golden standard
But there were so many other brands and makers and thinkers from different cultures making guitars that
in an alternate universe not far from our own at all
I feel the same way about the tradition of the music itself
And a dreadnought itself can do an infinite number of things
Another thing that David Rawlings says about his small guitar is that the smallest things sound the biggest
when they are in their own diorama – describing what he does with Gillian [Welch]
to convince listeners that the “baby dinosaur” [small guitar] can actually eat them
there’s opportunity in the format itself
I think people like Norman Blake and John Steinbeck are both hyper regionalists who synthesize very eclectic sources to create something that is uniquely their own
you think about Norman and certain people would say he is a flatpicker
Some people would say he was a pot smoking hippie who played with John Hartford – and they’re both equally true
Tying together otherwise disparate histories is a compelling format and is rewarding to the solo practitioner
We talked about it a couple of weeks ago when we first met by chance
But you starting the album with “Christmas in Yuma,” immediately I was like
I know what we’re doing.” We’re in the west
there’s poetry/prose poetry happening
That song feels like it’s part of a longstanding tradition
Immediately I was thinking about a couple of my favorite Steinbeck passages listening to that
starting with spoken word over that beautiful sound bed that you’ve created for it
what does that accomplish for you as an opening to a record
Two things come to mind. Kenneth Patchen
who made these poetry records for the Folkways label in the ‘50s backed by a jazz band and it was almost comical
but he took it so seriously and it’s so convincing when you just forget what the format actually is
The great Texas – I don’t even wanna say outsider artist
but in terms of how he’s viewed – outsider artist Terry Allen
with some of his concept records like Lubbock (On Everything) with the pedal steel
That’s why I started [CRK] out that way
Ice Cube’s records – I’m thinking of N.W.A
– start out with these sound collages of him getting arrested or walking down a cell block
He could make the amazing record that it became
or he could have done some something entirely different
I just think it’s an earnest way of saying
“I’m not trying to do what you [already] know.” We all know that everyone is infinitely complex
it’s fine to not be infinitely complex
I’m really not trying to make it a guitar record
[“Christmas in Yuma”] was just an earnest way of saying
“I’m not what you think I might be.”
It’s also a tradition in these roots and folk music spaces to play with expectation
People generally know what a solo guitar record is gonna sound like and what it’s gonna be and what it’s gonna do
I’m imagining a program director at a radio station putting on the record and doing the 30-second listen through – and the first song is poetry?
I think maybe that’s what you’re talking about
Whatever conscious or subconscious projection you might have about what this album is in your hand
or what this is about to be as you put it on
but I was “unschooled” and I didn’t have a high school diploma or a GED
I’ve learned this notion of leveraging
I surveyed how I was going to be able to reach people
and it gets more representative of myself as [time] goes
But it’s always been under the guise of leveraging unexpected muscle groups towards something else
That’s just built into this like fight or flight thing
Your point about the radio DJ – or whoever that’s listening to the poetry – I think that’s a unique opportunity
I’m gonna listen to Leo Kottke 6- and 12-String Guitar
People should continue to try to make records like that
It’s starting out on a different foot
is very different than you would if you just tried to hit it on the nose
Then you might even have a chance to open it up to somebody
Sometimes people just don’t know who Norman Blake is
there’s a tune like “Yuma Ferry.” Who plays like that
If I were to make a whole record of “Yuma Ferry”-style tunes
I think everybody listening would know that it was a Norman Blake type of thing
Let’s talk about “Christmas in Yuma” a little more in detail
because I’m curious about how you created it
Was it the poem that made the music happen
or the music demanded to have a poem set to it
What was the creative process like for the track
2021 and I just went to Google Docs and typed it out
Harry and Dylan sit down with me in our friend Marshall’s studio and we just recorded improvisations with the loose framework
Those are all the things that were vibrating around
“He has to do it.” He’s an amazing voice actor
Then we went to the studio and we just said
We’re just gonna play.” There was one take that was like the perfect length of time and I just put it under there
All those sonic features that interact with the vocal are totally incidental
The music of CRK is so evocative and so visual and is so good at text painting
but I wanted to talk about your work in other media and about how you curated the package for the album
You’re so multifaceted in what media you’re working in – archives
How do you see all those forms converging and diverging with this project specifically
Because I see your eye for detail at every level
You can just tell from the package that the whole thing is art to you
If there’s a picture of someone jumping
you don’t really know where they jumped from
Maybe this person crying is not the good guy
as the smile gets “invented” throughout photography
you can infer things right or wrong in there
They can all take you to a different place
but you lose a little bit with the moving image
‘Cause then you see the speed at which they’re moving
even if the frame rate isn’t representative of reality
say you’re playing jazz standards and you’re playing things with semantic content that came from a show
You’re shackled by the semantic content of that
to see photography and instrumental music as this thing
where – back to working in miniature – smaller things give you more room to insert yourself into it
but there’s more fiction to play with
In terms of things being programmed to you
the way that they’re sequenced by gestures is such a fitting way of dealing with sequencing things that aren’t visual
There’s a lot of inspiration from the photo book as a tradition
coalesced identity of the West without the photography of the Dust Bowl
I’ve spent a lot of time looking at FSA photographs and there’s some great Dorothea Lange photographs in Yuma from May of 1935 which can be seen via the Library of Congress
I actually licensed one of them that was not within the purview of her [federal] work from the Oakland Museum and that’s in the song folio for CRK
Norman Blake is a really important musician to you and Dave Rawlings is as well
You’re talking about wanting to make music
wanting to make a record that isn’t just another acoustic guitar
Norman and Dave are great examples of guitarists who make albums that aren’t just the same old same old
Who are the folks that modeled for you that having your own voice and perspective on your instrument was more important than just doing it to do it
Or to be “best” or to sell yourself as a product for consumption
he called guitar an instrument for assholes
[Andrés] Segovia tried to institute a formal repertoire
Is Jimi Hendrix the definitive repertoire for the guitar
I don’t need a million people to listen to my music to make a living or to keep doing it
how to make these raw ingredients that are embedded into everyone into something that’s not commercial
In terms of other people [who inspired me]
but I didn’t finger-pick up until about three and a half years ago
People like Rambling Jack Elliot and Sam Shepard
I would play these solo concerts in Texas of just flatpicking melodies
like four flatpicking melodies in four different keys
And I was just like beating my head up against a wall
fiddle tune-driven [story over an entire set of just flatpicking]
I decided I was going to learn how to finger-pick convincingly
It was a pain in my ass to figure that shit out
It could be seen as pushing back against commercialism or whatever
but in some ways it’s actually the opposite
I want as many people to listen to this as possible.” Not sheer numbers
but in terms of who they are and what their listening diets are
Not just everybody in the audience being someone who will already know each of those fiddle tunes

The actress acknowledged that it can be “easier to let the emotions and the anger and some of those other unhappier emotions just get the best of you,” but focusing on kindness “means you do have to stop and think about it

Family of Royals fans filled with pride as Cameron flirts with no-no in debutKansas City's No
5 prospect was 8 outs away from history in super first start against RaysMay 1st
TAMPA -- Over two decades ago, a 4-year-old Noah Cameron walked along the warning track at Kauffman Stadium with his mom
The Royals’ starter that day was a sensational rookie named Zack Greinke
Noah called out hello to Greinke as they passed by the starter warming up
It was around that time that Noah decided he wanted to be a baseball player when he grew up
Fast forward to 2025. Noah Cameron is 25 years old. He’s a baseball player now, pitching for the organization he grew up a fan of and that selected him in the seventh round of the 2021 MLB Draft
Now it’s his turn to make his Major League debut
Cameron took a no-hitter into the seventh inning on Wednesday night, leading the Royals to a 3-0 win over the Rays at George M
With his entire family and a large contingent of friends in the stands
His first and only hit allowed came with one out in the seventh inning
when Curtis Mead knocked a single just fair down the third-base line
“You can’t put it into words,” Cameron said
but I’m glad to get out of there with what happened

Cameron exited after the hit and 79 pitches to an ovation from the crowd
Reliever John Schreiber recorded the next two outs
protecting the Royals’ lead and giving Cameron the scoreless line
“[Schreiber] came in and gave me a big hug
I want to give you a big hug,’” Cameron said
The only no-hitter thrown in an MLB debut came in 1892 from Reds right-hander Bumpus Jones
• MLB rookies to throw no-hitters
“I thought he was going to do it,” manager Matt Quatraro said
Cameron, ranked as the Royals’ No. 5 prospect by MLB Pipeline, was called up on Wednesday to make a spot start for Cole Ragans (left groin strain)
While it would have been special for his debut to come at Kauffman Stadium
Cameron was just as proud to wear Kansas City across his chest on the road
Cameron grew up an hour north of The K and rooted for the Royals his entire life

Cameron worked around five walks and an error from second baseman Cavan Biggio to keep the Rays off the board
including right fielder Hunter Renfroe’s catch during Cameron’s five-pitch first inning and a phenomenal play and 90.9 mph throw to first base from shortstop Bobby Witt Jr
Cameron kept a calm and confident poise -- something that stood out to everyone on Wednesday
Those in the pregame pitching meeting walked out impressed by Cameron’s understanding and confidence in how he wanted to attack the Rays
Cameron did that well, too, flashing four of his pitches and recording three strikeouts, two with his plus curveball and one with his new slider. That ability is why the Royals have been so high on Cameron since they drafted him
despite the Tommy John surgery he had right before getting drafted and injuries early in his pro career
“This is a win for scouting and a win for player development,” senior director of pitching performance Paul Gibson said
“You draft a guy in that [seventh] round who’s injured
The foresight they had from seeing him was really huge
‘If he does this and if he does that,’ scenario to a
he can do this and do that.’ We’re really proud of him.”
Cameron Brink has had a stellar basketball career so far
and has a chance to do big things in year two
As a freshman she averaged 9.9 points and 6.6 rebounds per game
bringing those numbers all the way up to 17.4 and 11.9 as a senior
She led the Cardinal to a National Championship and two Final Fours
and left The Farm with an absurd 122-18 record
Brink was a Stanford legend without a doubt
Brink was selected with the second overall pick by the Los Angeles Sparks
especially in a 21 point effort against the Dallas Wings
her season was cut short due to an ACL tear
just four minutes into a regular season game against the Connecticut Sun
Brink is expected to return to the Sparks lineup some time in June
it will be tough for Brink to come back and immediately be at the same level she was at before the injury
Her height is certainly a benefit for her game
as well as a quick first step to get by or over defenders
If her previous athleticism isn't there initially
that could create some trouble for Brink as she continues to recover from a major injury
it's still completely possible that Brink could break out in her second season with the Sparks
and even reach her first all-star appearance
the Sparks look like a much better squad than the version that went 8-32 last season
Plum will be a big piece to helping her break out as a scorer
Plum was the first overall pick in the 2017 WNBA Draft and was a part of the 2022 and 2023 championship runs by the Las Vegas Aces
There is no doubt that Brink can block shots and rebound well
but adding a guard like Plum can help her in the pick and roll as well as the post game
Brink could take a huge step forward and possibly show glimpses at all star potential both now and for years to come
more fans are tuning in each and every night
and Stanford fans especially need to watch their former star tear up the big leagues this summer

Cameron Mathison revealed that his entry into the soap opera world was originally intended to be a tax write-off
As a guest on Maurice Benard’s (Sonny) YouTube mental health show, State of Mind
Mathison explained how he was very comfortable talking about the trials and tribulations in his life
“It’s been an especially challenging stretch the last
but specifically the last couple months,” he stated
Benard explained that he wanted to talk about Mathison’s previous soap character, Ryan Lavery, whom he portrayed on All My Children from 1998 to 2011
The actor stated that Lavery is a character he would still play today if the show hadn’t been canceled
Mathison explained that before getting the part on AMC
he had purchased a condo in Toronto and once went to visit friends in New York
planning to use the trip as a tax write-off

he visited an agent in New York who liked him and said
“I want to introduce you to Judy Wilson at All My Children
She’s the casting director.” He agreed to meet Wilson
which she recorded and said she would send to the show’s producers
[a] spontaneous moment of me trying to write off a trip to New York
I got a screen test on All My Children,” he stated
“I had my shirt off in the screen test and all that stuff
which should have been a big red flag.” Even though he was new at acting back then
he understood that the physical part of things would be key to getting a job in soap operas
“I booked the role and then they changed the role to Ryan Lavery
who was a con man initially and super fun,” he remarked
The Kansas City Royals optioned Noah Cameron back to Triple-A Omaha on Thursday
one day after the left-hander took a no-hitter into the seventh inning in his big league debut against the Rays in Tampa Bay
Cameron was called upon to make a spot start for staff ace Cole Ragans, who has been dealing with a sore groin. Cameron did not allow a hit until Curtis Mead's one-out single down the left-field line in the seventh
Royals manager Matt Quatraro promptly took him out of the game
and the Kansas City relief corps finished off the 3-0 victory over the Rays
"You can't put it into words," said Cameron
about an hour's drive north of their home at Kauffman Stadium
"It is something I've always dreamed about
but I'm glad to get out of there with what happened
No pitcher has thrown a no-hitter for Kansas City since Bret Saberhagen on Aug
a span of 5,244 games that represents the third-longest active no-hit drought in the majors
Only the Guardians and Blue Jays have gone longer
"I thought he was going to do it," Quatraro said
The 25-year-old Cameron wound up throwing 79 pitches
allowing that one hit with five walks and three strikeouts over 6⅓ innings
He's the first player to throw that many hitless frames in his big league debut since the Blue Jays' Nick Kingham
who got two outs in the seventh inning against the Cardinals on April 29
The splendid start by Cameron shouldn't have come as a complete surprise
He is widely considered among the organization's top five prospects
and he was 2-0 with a 3.22 ERA over his first five starts for Omaha this season
the Royals selected right-hander Taylor Clarke from Omaha to provide some additional depth in the bullpen
and they transferred right-hander James McArthur to the 60-day injured list
MEADOW LANDS – During her keynote speech Friday at the NAACP Washington Branch’s 65th annual Human Rights Award Banquet
Pennsylvania House Speaker Joanna McClinton – whose mother grew up in segregated North Carolina and raised McClinton as a single mom in southwest Philadelphia – looked around the ballroom at the DoubleTree Hilton Meadowlands
“When we think about the fact that it wasn’t long ago that a room like this
where we could be together from all different races
political affiliations … to know that it’s just within a couple of decades that we have seen so much positive change happen in our nation,” said McClinton
McClinton ascended to the leadership role in 2023
after making history in 2018 as the first woman and first African American elected to the House Democratic Caucus chair
she became the first woman elected as House Democratic leader in the institution’s 244-year history
But McClinton cautioned against harmful trends that are eating away at decades of hard-fought work to build up and advance human rights in the country
“We are in an age where some would have us go back to the time that my mother was born in and lived in,” said McClinton
and we are now in this age where every part of the red
white and blue of our beautiful flag and the fabric of our democracy lies in the balance of our decisions
the decisions that we make every six months when we vote
the decisions we make every day when we get up and speak on how we’ll interact and engage with our neighbors
and whether or not we’ll treat people as if they’re ‘others.'”
McClinton encouraged people to not remain silent
and to “be committed to ensuring that what we see in this country continues to be a positive change” during turbulent times and increasing inequality in the U.S
“It’s about making sure that we are not silent and we are not sitting on the sidelines when it matters to the most vulnerable communities,” she said
McClinton urged people to “be determined,” despite the challenges facing the country and the world
“The thing that I cannot give you but that you can decide to have every day is determination
determination to be a voice for the voiceless
determination to fight for justice,” she said
“It’s organizations like the NAACP that have made a world of difference in times
that were darker than the hour that we see
our children and grandchildren will never have to see when trying to exercise their right to vote or their freedom of speech … we have to be fearless in this age and say
I’m going to be the voice for this hour.'”
second president of the NAACP Washington Branch
presented Kathleen Cameron with the Human Rights Award
co-founder of Washington County Gay Straight Alliance
was honored for her decades spent tirelessly advocating for the LGBTQA+ community in and around Washington County and her efforts to “uplift the common and foundational values of integrity
a welcoming community center in downtown Washington to house the programming of WCGSA
“I humbly accept the NAACP’s 2025 Human Rights Award on behalf of the community that I’ve had the honor of serving for the last 20 years through the Washington County Gay Straight Alliance,” said Cameron
who brought the audience to their feet following her acceptance speech
“Not only are you recognizing my service to the LGBTQA+ community
but you’re recognizing the entire community itself in Southwestern Pennsylvania and the trials and tribulations they have suffered in the past
and unfortunately the foreseeable future in the United States,” said Cameron
“Human rights are fundamental freedoms and protections inherent to individuals simply by virtue of being human
with regard to such orientation and gender identity expression and basic protections such as availability to access health care pertinent to you as an individual whether you are a person of color
or someone on the spectrum of gender and orientation.”
She mentioned that earlier in the evening she had a conversation with a NAACP member who remarked
“We are all more alike than we are different.”
We get one life on Earth and we should just spend it being kind
respectful and considerate to those unlike us as well as those who are just like us,” said Cameron
Cameron co-founded the Washington County Gay Straight Alliance in 2005
“I’m proud to include the NAACP among our allies
It has turned into a mission in my life … Even though we are tired of fighting the same fights over and over
we are not giving up and we’re not going anywhere,” she said

Three years after Jodie Sweetin spoke out against Candace Cameron Bure’s “traditional” values concerning LGBTQ+ marriages
the Full House star clarified where she stands with the fellow alum
Jodie Sweetin isn’t afraid to say “how rude,” but she also accepts that she won’t see eye-to-eye with everyone
Amid brewing tension between the Full House alum and her fellow costar Candace Cameron Bure concerning their views on LGBTQ+ issues
Jodie clarified that there’s not any true beef between the former child stars
“We’ve always been very different on those things,” Jodie explained on an April 28 episode of The Vault with Monica & Amir podcast
now all of that sort of comes to the surface.”
Indeed, back when Candace launched her Great American Family network, which the former Hallmark star said aimed to keep “traditional marriage” at its core, Jodie supported Dance Moms alum JoJo Siwa after she called out Candace for her apparent anti-LGBTQ+ beliefs on social media
“If I can be of service or help with whatever gift I’ve been given of people paying attention,” Jodie explained
“it is required of me to do something important with that.”
Jodie emphasized that she and Candace “never” actually fought over the issue
as they’ve always been aware of where the other one stands
“We’ve lived very different lifestyles,” Jodie detailed
But she is still someone I have known since I was 5 years old
it’s like family members where we don’t talk all the time and I know if politics come up it’s not going to go well
although she still “very much” meant what she said
“I’m also not going to keep my mouth shut,” Jodie—who portrayed Full House’s Stephanie Tanner alongside Candace’s D.J

It was something personal that had been brewing—and nothing romantic
In March 2024, Tan responded to allegations that he had campaigned to replace Bobby on Queer Eye with his friend Jeremiah Brent
"Netflix and the production companies did a full-on casting

They ended up getting it because they were the best person for the job," he said on Instagram

Taylor and Katy had been in a feud for years, even allegedly inspiring Taylor's song "Bad Blood." The drama, which reportedly started over a backup dancer and competing tours, came to an end after Perry sent Taylor a literal olive branch before her Reputation Tour kickoff
"So I just got to my dressing room and found this actual olive branch," Taylor said in an Instagram video
Sex and the City costars Kim and SJP had dodged feud rumors for years. But they were reignited after Kim decided not to return for a third movie and made comments about her costar that raised eyebrows
"What was your reaction to Kim Cattrall telling Piers Morgan that you were never friends just colleagues?" Andy Cohen asked SJP on a Sept
you and I spoke about it because I was just...I don't know I found it really upsetting because that's
that's not the way I recall our experience."
"So...it's sad but I'm kind of...I don't know
I always think that what ties us together is this singular experience is the thing
It was a professional experience but it became personal because it was years and years of our lives
So I'm hoping that that sort of eclipses anything that's been recently spoken," she continued
"That many years spent doing something so special that people had a connection with is such a privileged."
And though they didn't film scenes together
Kim did make a small appearance on And Just Like That

The former Grey's Anatomy star sparked a feud with the series creator in 2008 when she removed her name from the Emmy Awards consideration
The actress stated that her reason for the move was because she wasn't "given the material to warrant a nomination."

"For a while now she's been taking a lot of shots at me," Cardi said in W magazine's Art Issue
The real spark of the fight came when Cardi saw that Nicki had allegedly liked and then unliked a tweet about Cardi's parenting skills
"I was going to make millions off my Bruno Mars tour
and I sacrificed that to stay with my daughter," Cardi continued
So for somebody that don't have a child to like that comment

Serhiy Sidey and Cameron Smotherman meet Saturday on the main card of UFC on ESPN 67 at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines
Check out this quick breakdown of the matchup from MMA Junkie analyst Dan Tom
1-1 UFC) will look to keep the momentum after picking up his first UFC victory
Both of Sidey's outings have resulted in split decisions
of which he has experienced the joy and agony
Sidey ended up on the wrong end in his debut against Ramon Taveras last January
while his second appearance under the UFC banner was a win over Garrett Armfield
1-0 UFC) will aim to extend his four-fight winning streak
Smotherman made a successful UFC debut in a unanimous decision win over Jake Hadley
Cameron Smotherman UFC on ESPN 67 expert pick
predictionIn keeping with the spirit of solid card formatting
Des Moines' main card is blessed with more bantamweights in the form of Sidey and Smotherman
Although both fighters tend to operate out of orthodox stances
Donald Cerrone from a stylistic perspective
is a kick-heavy kickboxer with some quiet submission threats (that I suspect we'll see more of as his career progresses)
is the more "steady Eddie" type regarding the smothering pressure and punch count that he likes to put on his opponents
I think that Sidey will be able to find a finish early due to Smotherman's propensity to sometimes get stung in fights
I'll ultimately be siding with Smotherman to survive the early scares and pull away down the stretch with his straight punches and bodywork
'A line beats a circle,' as the old martial arts adage goes
The pick is Smotherman to edge out a decision that the local and traveling judges are likely split on
Despite the oddsmakers opening the American as the favorite
public money has flipped the line in the Canadian's favor
listing Sidey -142 and Smotherman +116 via FanDuel
Serhiy Sidey vs. Cameron Smotherman UFC on ESPN 67 start time, how to watchSidey and Smotherman are expected to walk to the cage at approximately 10:40 p.m. ET. The fight broadcasts on ESPN 2 and streams on ESPN+

Here's a section of a Calorify report for Cameron Wurf
This is Wurf's Calorify report from 2023
Australian reveals his record-breaking ride broke an altogether different record too
Cameron Wurf clocked the fastest Ironman bike leg in history at Ironman Texas last weekend
The Australian rider covered the 112-mile bike leg split in 3:53:32
clocking an average speed of 28.7mph or 46.2km/h
which shaved 61 seconds off the previous record
After the event, he unveiled his insane fuelling strategy in an interview with The Feed
which was subsequently posted on social media
His candid description of his aggressive fuelling provided a great insight into how pro triathletes (and likely road pros too) are fuelling for the demands of events like Ironman.
But does Wurf have something of a unique metabolism that allows him to process far more fuel than other riders and regular amateurs?
We chatted with Wurf to find out more about how he plans his nutrition strategy
breaking his nutrition partner's expenditure record
and to find out just how he carried all of those gels in the first place
A post shared by The Feed (@thefeedme)
Wurf explained he consumed a little over 200 grams of carbohydrates per hour on the bike leg
particularly for mere mortals for whom the typically accepted ceiling sits at around 90 grams per hour
but likely even for other athletes too.
Triathletes often carry multiple gels decanted into a plastic flask
and Wurf explained he did a similar thing with a bottle after a Pinarello bike change provided some additional space on the downtube to carry another.
the bike they developed for Filippo Ganna and Josh Tarling for the [Paris] Olympics
With the old triathlon bike [Pinarello Bolide F TR]
I used to have a storage bin on the down tube
It just didn't dawn on me to replace it with an aero bottle
it's probably only a watt or two of aerodynamic loss; it's probably negligible
I probably had even more than 28 in the race
I'm filling a 700ml drink bottle with gels and adding a little bit of water
Wurf also talked about the large amounts of sodium he used during his ride
he aimed to take on board 1500mg of sodium per hour in bottles
Wurf explained he completed a practice Ironman workout in similar conditions to Ironman Texas with ex-Ineos Grenadiers physiologist Aitor Virbay using a sweat patch to map out his sodium needs
"Aitor was able to calculate how much I was sweating when my body was really struggling
I average around 155 BPM heart rate for an Ironman
So you're pegged at that for seven and a half hours
So you're sweating quite a lot at that kind of intensity
So it's better in an Ironman to go a little bit overboard than underboard."
which works with athletes to measure energy expenditure
Wurf found he has quite a special engine that can easily cope with the calories and sugar volume he took on during the race.
But he stressed simply maximising carb intake may not be a magic solution for everyone and could even have health risks like diabetes
His strategy is the result of a lot of scientific analysis and years of training.
It also turns out that Wurf's record-breaking Ironman performance set another record
resulting in the highest 'total energy expenditure' that Calorify had ever seen from any athlete they had ever tested
"The Calorify test was something I did with the team
It's quite an extensive test and is seen as the gold standard in calorie intake usage testing
But it's also very specific in helping you with what sugars you use best.
So the gels I choose will have fructose in them
preparing my stomach by having a lot more fruit
Wurf explained he's still analysing his limits
and will be dissecting the data from his Texas performance; he actually still felt hungry during the running leg of the event.
Even though I was still consuming over 100 grams of carbs per hour
Maybe my metabolism was moving too quickly from having so much sugar
"Which is something that a nutrition partner did want to discuss
but there's a chance you're pushing it a bit too far
because you did get hungry on the run with that amount of calories."
Wurf's bike leg is only one part in the Ironman puzzle
which he admits he is still trying to figure out
He has another Ironman championship in six weeks and is clearly motivated to put it all together
I'm looking forward to the next opportunity.
"If I can just put everything together over the next six weeks in training
and get some more kilometres into my running legs
I feel like that good performance isn't too far away."

After Christopher Nolan‘s award-winning “Oppenheimer” told the backstory of the U.S
government’s feverish development of the atomic bomb as race against the Nazis and ultimately was unleashed upon two Japanese cities in attempt to avoid a full-scale war on mainland Japan
Another dramatic WWII story told from the Japanese perspective is in the works from “Avatar” director James Cameron
with an adaptation of the Charles Pellegrino novel “Ghosts of Hiroshima.”
This budding war drama is expected to tell the story of Tsutomu Yamaguchi
who survived both atomic blasts in Hiroshima and Nagasaki
And is expected to explore the stories of other survivors as they remain the only people in history to have had atomics unleashed upon them
The horrors they experienced didn’t end after the bombs dropped
and this year marks the 80th anniversary of the events

after the hiring of actor Martin Sheen (“Apocalypse Now”) to do the narration on the audiobook has revealed that he’s hoping to make the pic his next non-“Avatar” effort and “uncompromising theatrical film,” but stopped short of sharing a timeline of his schedule
“It’s a subject that I’ve wanted to do a film about
over the years,” Cameron told Deadline of his desire to adapt Yamahuchi’s story
Cameron and Pellegrino pledged to “pass on his unique and harrowing experience to future generations.”
Cameron will combine “Ghosts” with another Pellegrino novel covering a similar subject matter
“The Last Train From Hiroshima,” as the two books will be used for a single film
An official synopsis for “Ghosts of Hiroshima”:
twenty-nine-year-old naval engineer Tsutomu Yamaguchi was on the last day of a business trip
looking forward to returning home to his wife and infant son
He survived the atomic blast and got on a train to Nagasaki
we don’t know exactly when Cameron plans to direct this highly anticipated WWII drama

The Golden State Warriors are thriving in the NBA Playoffs
GSW beat the Houston Rockets in Game 7 on the road
booking a trip to the Western Conference Semifinals
a tough opponent awaits – Anthony Edwards and the Minnesota Timberwolves
Cy Brink took to Instagram to share his thoughts on the Warriors’ matchup with the Timberwolves
He posted a picture of Steph Curry and the Warriors’ Game 7 win over the Rockets with the caption: “Twolves matchup will feed families (mine).”
While Brink implied this series will be one for the ages
The Wolves advanced to the semis by ousting the Lakers in five games
while it took seven for the Warriors to eliminate the Rockets
GSW and MIN will face off in Game 1 on May 6 in Minnesota to tip off the series
If this one is anything like their past encounters, expect a battle, a few flagrant and technicals, and possibly a chokehold
While Cameron Brink has only been in the WNBA a year, she has already made a mark in the league. The Stanford University standout was drafted by the Los Angeles Sparks in the 2024 WNBA Draft with the second overall selection.
Stephen Curry, on the other hand, has been a household name since he was selected by the Golden State Warriors with the seventh overall pick in the 2009 NBA Draft. But, how far back do the two go?
Curry’s parents, Dell and Sonya, are Brinks’ godparents, and Brinks’ parents, Greg and Michelle Bain-Brink, are godparents to the Warriors superstar and his siblings.
The families have a long history of close friendship, dating back to when Dell Curry and Greg Brink played basketball together at Virginia Tech, and Sonya and Michelle were roommates.
“It’s pretty awesome to watch [Cameron Brink] grow up in the game,” Steph said in 2021. “I just love watching her play, love everything about her. She’ll be playing for a very long time.”
Both Cameron Brink and Stephen Curry are in the thick of their respective professions as Brink and the Sparks look to start the 2025 WNBA season on the right track, while Curry and the Warriors gear up for Game 1 vs. the Timberwolves.
