endless “My wife and I moved to Camp Verde from Kingman in 2018 Our goal was to retire here when we got older but then we decided to move in another direction We had second thoughts and we purchased the historic Wingfield Plaza.”  The Wingfield Plaza is in downtown Camp Verde and is one of the oldest commercial buildings in the area Its rustic structure and Western character is a nice reminder of the early 1800s The east side of the building has housed a restaurant for several years many locals were accustomed to having a restaurant there maybe this is something I can do,” said Chambers “I hired a staff of 28 key employees who are super talented and who have experience working in this industry for many years They are doing all it takes to make this work Chambers opened Bullpen Grill and Watering Hole it is charming customers with tasty meals in the Western-themed eatery  “It was great food and what I really liked about it is that there were healthy options I had a salad and my husband had a burger and fries The service was really good and the food was prepared fast,” said Verde Valley Medical Center Speech Pathologist Shaylee Hoffman  Chambers was born in Kingman and attended college at Northern Arizona University (NAU) He was about to pursue a career as a cameraman at a news station when he learned about real estate  “I was in a sales class and we had a guest speaker who mentioned how much she earned as a real estate agent so I worked toward my real estate license and my mom got hers at the same time.” Chambers has been working in real estate since he was 21 years old  “I’ve worked with Justin since 2005,” said Camp Verde Associate Real Estate Broker Michele Chaney great guy to work with and always on the go You might see him washing dishes or vacuuming Justin is also a wonderful family man and is dedicated to his wife and kids He’s going to do great with his new restaurant.”  Along with a colorful picturesque mural by famed Sedona artist Claudio Valdez who creates under the name Quadrillion Miles Chambers replaced all appliances in the kitchen including the walk-in freezer and refrigeration corrugated tin panels and we added pool tables in the spacious dining room “I like playing pool and customers can play to their heart’s content,” he said Tucked outside is an outdoor smoker where beef brisket and pork are roasted  Bullpen Grill and Watering Hole server Will Accomando is proud of the reviews I’ve seen comments online about the food and service and they have been fantastic.”  “The food is top notch,” said local cowboy Frank Drake “I had the braised rib roast and my wife had a New York strip steak  “Justin gives us the opportunity to let us have our freedom in the kitchen,” said Lead Chef Joshua Senecal The menu showcases all my selections.” Senecal likes to refer to the Bullpen Grill and Watering Hole as a “gastropub,” a pub that specialize in serving high-quality food  Located at 564 South Main Street in Camp Verde Bullpen Grill and Watering Hole is open 11 a.m.-10 p.m. seven days a week and can be followed on Facebook Filed Under: Business, Local News Tagged With: Verde Valley News – The Town of Camp Verde and Arizona State University’s (ASU) Project Cities program are proud to announce the conclusion of their joint Rainwater Demonstration Garden and Rainwater Harvesting Tank Installation Workshop held at the Camp Verde “Green Building,” brought together experts and community members to explore innovative techniques for collecting and utilizing rainwater in local gardens Participants had the opportunity to learn from professionals in the field of water management and sustainability while gaining practical knowledge of how to design and implement rainwater harvesting systems in their own homes and public spaces Because this class was attended by Stormwater Specialists and College and Municipal Grounds Caretakers its impact will extend far beyond individual backyards These professionals now have the tools and knowledge to implement water-saving techniques across public spaces By integrating sustainable landscaping practices into these high-visibility areas and raise awareness in the broader community The ripple effect of this training could significantly reduce groundwater use and foster a culture of conservation thus amplifying the message of sustainability to entire towns and cities “I recently read that the Verde River is running at just 36% capacity As one of the last free-flowing rivers in Arizona – and a vital lifeline flowing through Camp Verde – it is not only a natural treasure We must nurture and conserve this precious resource so that future generations can experience the same sense of wonder we do today But we are not victims of a dwindling resource The decreasing flow is not the end of the story – it’s a call to action and capturing and using rainwater when it does grace our desert lands we can make a lasting difference and ensure a healthy flowing Verde River – and a reliable water supply – for years to come.” Patty Mancini The event included hands-on demonstrations and installation of a rainwater demonstration garden Participants were introduced to various rainwater harvesting techniques This garden is not only a model of sustainable design but also an educational resource for the community interactive space where residents and visitors can learn about water conservation techniques explore the benefits of rainwater harvesting and see firsthand how these practices can be integrated into their own yards and gardens The garden will continue to be a valuable tool for community education fostering a deeper understanding of the importance of sustainable water management The partnership marks a milestone in the Verde Valley’s commitment to sustainable water practices As the area faces increasing concerns about water scarcity education and community engagement are critical to building a resilient and sustainable future Support provided by ASU’s Arizona Water Innovation Initiative and the Impact Water – Arizona program courtesy of the State of Arizona and the Virginia G CAMP VERDE — Two things we can count on in late March and early April: shed antlers and rattlesnakes The snakes give us the opportunity to stay alive while negotiating time outdoors and the sheds help us keep up with what’s happening with our bucks once the hunting has stopped for the year James Kroll doing a postseason distance survey of bucks That should be interesting since we didn’t take any does during the 2024-25 deer season as we tried to take on a surplus of super-mature bucks that seemed to have built up over the last few years There’s always a bit of discomfort taking only mature bucks during any season in Texas but we wound up with a nice representation of mature That took careful harvesting of bucks that fit into our profile we’ve been picking up sheds that the leftover bucks have dropped and they seem to be deer destined for the trophy classes in the next couple of seasons One of the things we saw during the season was that we had more fawns and does than we had seen during nighttime counts That was mainly due to the fact that temperatures were running in excess of 100 degrees whenever we set out on our nighttime census surveys Camp Verde Ranch is relatively small compared to other intensely managed ranches and we knew that meant our county could be figured to be close to actual numbers than on a much larger property We will be able to have better numbers from the fall camera surveys as a result and know where we are having the effect we’re hoping for Then we can adjust our buck and doe harvest up or down accordingly But we always have to know that spotlight and camera surveys can never be exact and are only there to give us a baseline number from which we can work to plan our harvest for the season Verde Vallley News – Students of ASU’s Center for Innovation in STEM Learning are designing a video game about drought in a futuristic and slightly dystopian desert world Led by Assistant Research Professor Nicholas Weller the team is in the stage of testing the game with different audiences and will be conducting two teen-age focus groups in two sessions at Camp Verde Community Library on April 25 Each session will be limited to 12 participants the game will featured in several shows in Sedona  Morris painted with pastels for 10 years but had to discontinue the medium “I got pastel dust into my lungs and developed asthma It was really bad and it took me five years to recover Some of the pastels are made of cadmium and cobalt and I wasn’t careful enough.”  Changing over to oil painting has been a good fit for her  “Sheri’s paintings are refreshing and the scientific work to make sure resources are inventoried there’s some really important science for air and water quality,” Garder said The Trump Administration’s latest move to sell off federal properties comes shortly after mass firings of federal employees and a return to in-person work mandate “There’s also an important question of where people go to report,” said Garder the Park Service has experienced a 9% staffing loss even though seasonal hiring has been allowed to resume One thousand employees who were let go and about 700 opted to resign “It would be an understatement to say it’s adding insult to injury- it’s adding injury to injury and it’s just one of many actions that have been happening that are tying the Park Service’s hands making it very difficult for them to do their job getting ready for the busy spring season and protecting those world class resources that people come to see,” Garder noted The Park Service recently reported record-setting visitation last year with 331,863,358 visits– up 2% from 2023 “There are businesses and communities all around the country who are appropriately alarmed about this situation and worried about how the visitor experience is going to be compromised and undermined,” Garder said there were 10,431,792 visitors to Arizona’s national park sites in 2023 who spent about $1.2 billion in local gateway regions $55.6 place to take a hike based on the amount of time you have and your fitness level," Garder said "People who can tell you about the history of the park or just the history that the park interprets the interpreted materials you find at visitor centers all of the things that really enhance the park visiting experience When you don’t have staff and when you close the visitor centers The GSA has since qualify for Managed Lands Deer Permits James Kroll had agreed to supervise a “distance” survey using trail cameras to develop a picture of the bucks and does on Camp Verde Ranch and to make recommendations on harvest for bucks and does After poring through 3,600 photos that we collected on Bobby Parker’s ranch Kroll came to some conclusions that we didn’t really expect One was that we have a surplus of older bucks that needs to be trimmed down during this season Kroll’s number for does on the ranch came to 34.7% of the overall herd since several years of drought had really knocked them down and left us without the recruitment of fawns into the adult population were much older than they should be and will need to be culled down to keep their numbers and ages more in line with Kroll’s vision of a healthy buck population There were a number of over-mature bucks that should be reduced to keep the herd healthy and within carrying capacity of the land Parker had decided to reduce the amount of protein pellet use and to depend on cotton seed for protein added to the deer’s natural diet The numbers of those bucks will have to come down to help establish a healthier herd composition Kroll said he’s also found that mature bucks actually depend more on corn than we previously thought and that we need to account for that at certain times and the ranch will need to take that onto consideration The main things to do will be to pay close attention to the ages of bucks removed for management purposes and to keep those numbers lower in the future It’s a long-term balancing act that requires thought and careful monitoring of trophy and management buck harvest Campo Verde was known for its Christmas light decor A Tex-Mex restaurant that made every day feel like Christmas with its over-the-top holiday decor has turned out the lights: Campo Verde has closed its location at 2918 W The last day it was open was January 5. The closure was said to last a few days, according to The Dallas Morning News but it’s been weeks now and employees have been laid off When calling the phone number listed on the restaurant's site it goes to a message stating that the number is out of service and disconnected two notes were posted on the closed doors; one from a vendor and the other was a hand-written note from a customer Even the Christmas lights were still on inside “Looks like y’all shut down a staple for this area,” the note read The restaurant was a mainstay and became an annual landmark in Arlington every Christmas holiday season with its 120,000 lights and two model trains circling around the dining room changed ownership and sold the restaurant to Thomas “Tommy” Stewart Jr With the new ownership also came no change in the Christmas decor but a reduced menu of Tex-Mex eats There’s a new Nashville chicken restaurant now open in Mansfield: Called 2 Neighbors Southern Chicken it opened in March in the Broad Street Shopping Center at 2751 E where it's serving an authentic version from a family with first-hand knowledge Owner Carlonda Marshall is a native of Nashville who's getting some backup from her mother "We grew up on Nashville fried chicken that would be our Friday night meal," Marshall says Mansfield is a second location: Marshall opened the first 2 Neighbors in 2017 in Cedar Hill, before relocating to the Grow DeSoto Market Place in 2020, where it’s still open today. (They also briefly opened a burgers and shakes concept next door in the marketplace The new Mansfield location has fast-casual service Fans can buy hats and T-shirts with the restaurant's design The menu at Mansfield is similar to DeSoto location but with a bigger focus on Southern fried chicken Customers can get plain fried chicken or the spicier Nashville-style Prices range from $8.50 for nuggets to $14 for catfish & fries The only thing they're not doing at Mansfield is sandwiches a twist on the classic Kentucky butter cake a moist pound cake with a butter and sugar syrup and a vanilla glazed crust The center where they're located has a healthy mix of shops and restaurants. They took over a space that was previously occupied by another chicken place called Chick'n Cone now closed; but Marshall is upbeat about the area "Just looking in the Mansfield area and seeing all the growth there we decided it’s kind of booming over there,” she says "We're so busy in Mansfield right now we're getting a lot of walk-in traffic."
