Maryland State Police (MSP) say 66-year-old Robert Skidmore of Cape St Clair was driving a Mercedes SUV eastbound on Route 50 when he was hit head on by a wrong-way driver in a Volkswagen Tiguan Skidmore succumbed to his injuries at Shock Trauma identified by police as 22-year-old Laura Ashley Murphy of Salisbury was declared deceased on the scene and her 14-month-old son was flown to Johns Hopkins for treatment Officers said they received several calls reporting a vehicle traveling in the wrong direction followed by several calls reporting the crash as they were making their way to the scene Murphy was driving westbound in the eastbound lanes of Route 50 in Annapolis,” MSP wrote in a release “The preliminary information indicates that Murphy was driving westbound in the eastbound lanes of Route 50 approximately one-quarter mile east of the Severn River Bridge when the crash occurred It is unknown where Murphy initially entered onto Route 50 at this time.” The driver of a third car involved in the collision was uninjured The crash investigation is being handled by MSP NOTE: While the police report and Google Maps identifies the address as being in “Cape St several people have contacted us saying that the community was “Walnut Ridge” and that it is not in Cape St officers from the Eastern District responded to the 1300 block of Hazel Nut Court in the Cape St Claire community for a report of family violence Initial information indicated that the 61-year-old female victim was violently assaulted by her 33-year-old son The victim’s son apparently used a hammer to strike her repeatedly in the head and torso the victim fled her home and ran to a nearby neighbor An extensive perimeter was established and a search was conducted as officers believed the suspect may have been on foot Utilizing ground units with assistance from K-9 and Aviation the suspect was eventually located about a half mile away hiding in a heavily wooded area off of Commanders Way The suspect was taken into custody without incident approximately 90 minutes after the assault occurred The suspect was then charged with Attempted Second Degree Murder First and Second Degree Assault and Reckless Endangerment The victim was transported to Shock Trauma in Baltimore 2012 at 1:49 pm ETOne can't help but notice the front yard of Mike Conti's home when driving down Chestnut Tree Drive in Cape St a tight-knit community at the edge of the Broadneck peninsula and a waving American flag all greet passersby in the community If you've ever seen the A&E television show Hoarders you have a good idea of what the place looks like Conti said he’s been gearing up for a “mega yard sale” this weekend which he said would clean up the yard and put some cash in his pocket But neighbors said his lawn has been this way for months Conti refers to himself as Mike the Scrap King with the slogan—“Beautifying AACO one yard at a time."  Conti was formerly an elevator repairman for Otis Elevators When I asked Conti how he had amassed his collection "Sometimes people’s houses foreclose and they end up putting everything out by the trash.” Inside Conti’s house there are even more treasures to be found which he grabbed and held aloft for a photograph "How much do you think this is worth?" he asked Conti said he doesn't consider himself to be a collector of antiques Nearly everything in the home will be for sale his dog and some items related to his family "I've been wanting to sell it all for a while Conti's hobby-turned-profession has created problems for him with neighbors Claire Community Improvement Association (CSCIA) Some say he's more than just a neighborhood nuisance “This property is one of the biggest problems facing Cape St Claire residents,” said Kathleen Mooneyhan the president of the CSCIA's board of governors Conti’s yard is in violation of at least one of the homeowners association covenants —“noxious or offensive trade” is prohibited on all lots. The association even issued a press release on the property in May calling it "an appalling violation" of community covenants community standards and the regulations of the county Mooneyhan said the community is frustrated and disenfranchised by the fact that nothing seems to change despite numerous complaints about the property "We are using every weapon in our arsenal for this but it's frustrating because it just takes too much time," she said "We know the community wants this resolved There are a bevy of legal actions in place There is a court order to remove abandoned vehicles and a zoning code violation from the county's Planning and Zoning Department which gives Conti until July 20 to clean up the yard or be issued a $250 fine with the county attorney's office potentially pressing charges afterward for theft of items valued at between $1,000 to $10,000 from nearby homes He has a criminal jury trial date set for Oct The community association is pursuing civil litigation against Conti for covenant violations and is working with the county on other legal options director of the county's Department of Inspection and Permits "He seemed willing to apply all of the county's resources to alleviate the problem," Biondi said and saw that he will be a dog with a bone and not let this go." who has lived next door to Conti for 15 years called him “the worst possible neighbor.” She complains of Conti's radio which blasts rock music throughout the day and night “We stopped speaking the day after he cursed me out,” Barnhart said Barnhart said she tried to be friendly with Conti There are now trespassing charges against Conti for violating that order said the condition of Conti's yard has cost her a few clients who said they are not interested in Cape St Claire because obviously the homeowners association cannot enforce their bylaws," Juras said "It's a perfectly centralized location if you wanted to spoil the image of this entire area." Conti’s mega yard sale take a drive down Chestnut Tree Drive in Cape St detectives from Eastern District’s Tactical Patrol Unit (TPU) and Tactical Narcotics Team (TNT) received complaints in reference to drug sales and use being conducted in the Severna Park and Arnold area shopping center parking lots The complaint described several females selling and using illegal drugs inside a white ford Windstar van 2017 detectives were conducting surveillance in the above areas detectives observed a vehicle matching the description located in a parking lot in of the 500 block of Ritchie Highway in Severna Park The vehicle was followed and minor driving infractions were observed and while detectives were speaking with the two occupants they observed drug paraphernalia in plain view A search of additional .4 grams crack cocaine was found on the driver inside under her under garment Both subjects were charged with three counts of possession with intent to distribute officers responded to the 900 block of Ridgeway Drive in the Cape Saint Claire for an assault Upon arrival an officer made contact with the suspect who was holding a female on the kitchen floor and assaulting her The suspect refused to obey verbal commands and immediately became combative and assaulted the officer At this time the officer radioed for assistance and deployed a Taser to subdue the suspect This prompted numerous officers to respond As additional officers arrived on scene the suspect was taken into custody   The female was transported to a local hospital for numerous injuries sustained from the assault The suspect was charged with first and second degree assault false imprisonment and reckless endangerment on his wife He was also charged with resisting arrest and assault on the police
