District 1 championship football game on Friday night in Ste
mking@dailyjournalonline.com STE. GENEVIEVE – Wyatt Fallert and his dangerous receivers delivered another impressive show as Valle Catholic added the latest district championship to its storied football pedigree.
The starting defense allowed no points to Caruthersville for a second time this season, and the second-ranked Warriors cruised 63-21 in the Class 2, District 1 final on Friday night.
Senior Tyler Gegg shined a spectacular one-handed catch in the end zone, and also beat his defending cornerback for a second touchdown as time expired in the first half.
Valle Catholic (10-1) amassed 551 yards in total offense while posting its ninth consecutive victory, and will travel Saturday to week 1 opponent Bowling Green for a state quarterfinal clash.

Wyatt Fallert completed 18-of-27 passes for 375 yards and six touchdowns – exclusively in the first half – and needs only 23 yards to surpass 3,000 in his lone season as the varsity quarterback.
Evan Fallert, Kalan Fallert and Josh Fallert added scoring runs, and kickers Wil Kuehn and Colton Kutz combined for a perfect 9-of-9 on extra points.
Jermonte Alexander notched all three touchdowns for seventh-ranked Caruthersville (10-2), which struggled to finish early drives after crossing midfield.
Colin Henderson had a game-high seven receptions for 120 yards, and broke a tackle along the right side to begin the scoring with a 23-yard touchdown on the initial series.
Gegg totaled 144 yards on six catches, including a pair on the next Valle Catholic drive. He leaped between two defenders to pluck a 14-yard pass out of the cool air in dazzling fashion.
The highlight-reel moment followed a dropped pass a few snaps earlier. Fallert targeted his leading receiver right away on the next play for an excellent 44-yard grab near the home sideline.
The Warriors executed a stellar series of blocks on their third touchdown of the first quarter. Fallert moved to his left, then instead fired a lateral pass tight toward an isolated Kuehn.

Tackle Zach Naeger, guard Nolan Prehm and center Carter Grass set a wall in front of Kuehn, who darted through an opening with his track speed for a 37-yard scoring catch and 21-0 advantage after Henderson moved the chains with a lunging 12-yard grab on third-and-10.
Caruthersville got a 41-yard burst from running back Sammy Bryant on its first play from scrimmage, but the Warriors forced an eventual punt with two straight tackles for loss.
Kuehn committed a facemask penalty on the Tigers’ second possession, which also stalled after Carter Viox stopped a run in the backfield and Josh Fallert pressured quarterback Ryan Guest.
Alexander powered ahead for 19 yards just before the first quarter concluded, but Trevor Roth and Levi Chapman made subsequent hits – either for no gain or a loss – to induce another punt.
The Warriors mixed in a 10-yard run by Conner Clanton before increasing the lead to 28-0 as Kellen Tucker reeled in a 48-yard strike over his shoulder from Wyatt Fallert on a deep post.
Alexander answered with an 89-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, and the Tigers appeared to have produced their first defensive stop on the ensuing drive.
Outside linebacker Gavin Motton jarred the ball free from Clanton, and Kenyon Bogan recovered, but a personal foul penalty during the play negated the potential turnover.

The Warriors capitalized on the massive break moments later, as Josh Fallert toted a 4-yard touchdown scamper past the left pylon for a 35-7 margin on his 18th birthday.
The teams traded punts before Caruthersville misfired on a fourth-and-10 pass near midfield, leaving Valle with 1:19 remaining. It was enough time to tack on two more scoring throws.
Henderson slipped past the secondary to catch a 49-yard touchdown – his second of the night – with 35 seconds on the clock. Holder Sam Kuehn saved a high snap on the successful extra point.
Wil Kuehn matched Evan Fallert with seven tackles to pace the Warriors, and managed to recover his own onside kick to trigger a wild sequence before the halftime horn sounded.
Caruthersville safety Tre’Sean Mays intercepted a long Fallert pass, but Tucker jumped a route to pick off Guest before stepping out of bounds with seven-tenths of a seconds left.
Wyatt Fallert capped his fabulous game with a 30-yard pass on target to Gegg against single coverage, resulting in a 49-7 halftime lead. Valle Catholic did not throw in the second half.

Naeger, Viox and Josh Fallert each made six tackles, and Grass had a couple for losses. Trey Metzger recovered a bobbled snap on the penultimate play of the game.
The Warriors limited Alexander to a 3-yard average through 12 carries before he exploded past the second string for touchdown runs of 38 and 37 yards. He netted 110 yards on the ground.
Valle Catholic enjoyed an 18-7 disparity in first downs over the Tigers, who completed just one of their eight pass attempts. Bryant carried 12 times for 69 yards.
Evan Fallert finished with 85 yards on nine carries in the victory. His 27-yard gain set up a 3-yard score on fourth-and-goal from the 3 in the third quarter.
Kalan Fallert ended the scoring on a 16-yard run through the middle with 2:25 remaining after back-up quarterback Andrew Schilly gained 17 on a keeper.
Henderson stands 33 yards away from joining Gegg with more than 1,000 this season. Valle Catholic football seniors hold up the Class 2, District 1 championship plaque after defeating Caruthersville 63-21 on Friday night in Ste. Genevieve.

Valle Catholic linebacker Wil Kuehn (23) grabs the facemask of Caruthersville running back Sammy Bryant (3), resulting in a penalty during the first quarter of the Class 2, District 1 championship football game on Friday night in Ste. Genevieve.
