matched the weather as the Hounds dropped a 2-0 defeat to North Carolina FC The first half proved a relatively even affair with neither side able to find a breakthrough or looking partcularly dangerous in the attacking third While North Carolina edged possession and the rare opportunity a scoreless half was appropriate on the state of play North Carolina’s first good chance of the match came early as an errant centering pass from Illal Osumanu in midfield was intercepted for a quick-paced breakaway But a blazing recovery run from Sean Suber helped to cover his defensive linemate’s mistake and put off any potential chance The Hounds would generate their best chance of the match just after the quarter-hour mark via some clever dribbling Aidan O’Toole split two defenders down the middle on the right wing before ripping a cross all the way through where it was picked up and recycled by Danny Griffin on the left wing His return ball got past several defenders to fall to Perrin Barnes who’s volley attempt sailed over the crossbar and clear Another chance would come the Hounds way just before the break a ripped back-pass from the North Carolina right side breezed past their own goalkeeper and fortunately past the post as well as nobody could put any efforts meaningfully on-target – leaving the scoreline at 0-0 heading into the break It wouldn’t be long into the second half before the deadlock was broken a deep throw-in for North Carolina was taken into the Hounds box The ball was cleared only as far as Louis Perez at the top of the 18 yard box who promptly uncorked a rocket into the bottom-right and it nestled into the back of the net for a 1-0 lead for the visitors They wouldn’t have to wait long to score again either a very similar deep throw-in was again cleared out by the Hounds defense the throw-in taker Mikey Maldonado was there to cycle a cross back in where it was headed goalwards by Pedro Dolabella and beyond Dick’s reach The Hounds would get a chance to pull one back after a series of substitutions in the 75th minute as they’d earn a free kick just outside the box and blasted it into the wall of North Carolina defenders before the ref blew his whistle for a man down the Hounds would be unable to find even one goal to make this match competitive The visitors would see out their two goal lead until the final whistle sending the Hounds to their fourth-straight league defeat They’ll hope to unexpectedly turn their fortunes in their midweek contest Wednesday night against New York City FC in the U.S including starting lineups and in-game get a shot off centrally No calls for handball forthcoming despite calls for it from NCFC 22′ – Another corner for the Hounds once again won by some good hustle from Perrin Barnes First short effort turned out for another corner ending up with a blocked Auggie Williams shot 17′ – Aidan O’Toole with a very clever move to beat two defenders on the right wing His cross goes long where Griffin The Cary Police Department’s Investigations Section received information in late December about child pornography possession. The Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force reported data believed to contain child pornography was being possessed at a residence in Cary, according to Cary Deputy Police Chief Scott Naydenoff. The investigations section conducted an investigation into the tip and identified a suspect. Naydenoff said investigators obtained a search warrant for the residence in the 1300 block of New Haven Drive in Cary. The Cary Police Department, with the assistance of the Illinois Attorney General’s Office and the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office, executed a search warrant at the residence on Tuesday. Multiple devices were recovered and examined by digital forensic examiners from the Illinois Attorney General’s Office. A resident of the home, Caiden W. Geisterfer, 21, of Cary, was taken into custody following the warrant, Naydenoff said. Geisterfer was charged with eight counts of dissemination of child pornography, a Class X felony, and 10 counts of possession of child pornography, a Class 2 felony. Naydenoff said Geisterfer was also sharing the explicit material through various applications. A criminal complaint said the images showed children younger than 13 being sexually abused. Geisterfer was transported to the McHenry County Jail and appeared for an initial appearance court hearing on Wednesday. The McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office filed a petition to detain Geisterfer pending trial and McHenry County Judge Cynthia Lamb granted the petition. Geisterfer is scheduled to appear in court again on May 21 for a status of preliminary hearing. We got a good deal with a good organization with a good scheme [outside zone] that fits me well. ... Obviously you want to get drafted. There’s more money involved, you have a sense of security, but by going undrafted you get to pick the place you want to go to and the scheme that you want to go to.” West said, according to Brennan, the Bears were one of 18 NFL teams that showed interest in him. A Bears fan growing up, West went on a pre-draft visit to Halas Hall. “It was awesome,” West said. “Met everybody. Met the O-line coach (Dan Roushar). Met Coach [Ben] Johnson. Obviously they went in a different direction. They drafted two [offensive linemen], so it is what it is.” West played right guard, left guard and center at Western Michigan, starting 36 straight games his final three seasons. He thinks he projects as a center for Miami. Despite his college accolades, which included being ranked the best offensive guard in the nation by Pro Football Focus, and not allowing a sack in 2024, West was not considered a potential Day 1 or Day 2 draft pick because of his supposed lack of size and wingspan. He is aware of his “shortcomings,” so to speak. “I’ve been hearing that my whole life,” West said. “A couple [of evaluations] ticked me off. They were like, ‘Not athletic enough.’ That was before my pro day. And then my pro day I had really good numbers, so we can put that rumor to rest. ... NFL scouts were like, ‘What about your wingspan?’ I was like, ‘Watch my tape vs. Ohio State, vs. four draft picks. I think I did pretty well.’” What West will bring to the Dolphins is nastiness and relentlessness, qualities he learned when he played for Cary-Grove, which won the 2018 Class 6A state title his senior year. “My coaches at Cary-Grove did a great job of instilling in me that if you’re going to play this position [offensive line], you got to be the toughest, meanest son of a gun around,” West said. “I brought that [mentality] to college, finishing things through the whistle, after the whistle, being mean, nasty, relentless, on and off the field. I’m just trying to do everything I can to stick out, and I think it’s worked.” West received more than 200 text messages and phone calls after signing with the Dolphins, “which was awesome,” he said. The Dolphins have rookie minicamp next week in Miami. “Now, it’s play or get cut, honestly,” West said. “You got to bring the stuff every day to practice and work. This is your job now. It’s a big opportunity, and I definitely don’t take it for granted. I’m very grateful. I’m just trying to do what I can to make the team and provide for my family.” For the business major, it’s all business going forward. He really missed his mom & dad as well as his wife Debbie Debbie was the love of his life and fell hard from the moment they met Cary was a wonderful provider and caregiver and fought so hard to make Debbie’s life more comfortable and has helped support her family for the past 23-years He loved them all dearly and always had a story to tell about them He treated them like his own and spent time playing with them His love of “The Grinch” always tickled his family at Christmas which they all loved so much Cary always made sure the family was taken care of on the holidays and birthdays and Chico Sticks and always had a pocket full to hand out to the kids He wasn’t keen on technology and still preferred vinyl records and all of their children and treated all with respect Cary was an avid reader when it came to the newspaper or a good sports article And who will forget him standing over the stove stirring his macaroni & butter as a little kid and still loved to do this for his family and kids Cary liked music and was a big fan of Jethro Tull He traveled to New York to visit a friend and this was a big deal for him His family always got a kick when Cary would pour a bowl of cereal and wait until it got soggy to eat He will surely miss his favorite Mexican dishes and his chicken noodle soup with Lay’s potato chips Cary suffered with two degenerative hips which created him a lot of pain but never really complained much His main complaint was he did not like going to doctors He lived his life as he pleased and was dedicated to his family which he loved so much Cary is survived by his two brothers Michael Hansen of Pleasant Grove He is also survived by 11-step grandchildren A graveside service will be held Thursday April 17 2025 at Springville Evergreen Cemetery at 11:00 AM There will be a viewing for friends and family prior to the service from 9:00 - 10:30 AM 2025 held at Wheeler Mortuary located at 211 E 200 S in Springville.  Condolences for the family may be expressed on this page #5 Men’s Tennis Ready for ACC Tournament in Cary as No 2 Seed4/17/2025 11:50:00 AM | Men's Tennis Arkansas met his LORD face to face on February 26 Cary is survived by his loving wife of 58 years Michael Drinkwater (Camie); along with a host of family and friends.  Cary received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Baylor University in 1962 Continuing his studies at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary he would go on to earn a Master of Divinity and finish with a Doctor of Theology in 1973 Moving his growing family to North Little Rock from Atlanta Heard would spend the next thirty years ministering to Central Arkansas as the Senior Pastor at Park Hill Baptist Church in North Little Rock and a heart-centered focus on the example set by Jesus Park Hill Baptist Church experienced rapid and effective growth in ministry to its congregation and countries around the world through an ever deepening commitment to giving through the International Mission Board.  Heard served multiple terms as President of the Arkansas Baptist State Convention His steadfast love of the Word of God inspired his ability to relate scripture through simple and anyone who had the pleasure of knowing him bears witness to the fact: he practiced it as well Cary enjoyed the waters and woodlands of The Natural State as well as the backcountry peaks of Colorado and the waves of the Gulf Coast and communities in a way that fostered consistent Cary was living proof that you simply cannot outgive God A humble man with a broad sense of humor and a gentle Cary received numerous commendations from The City of North Little Rock having been given multiple citations and awards for his service from the Governor of Arkansas to the President of the United States.  His grandchildren guard a treasury of stories about the way he made them laugh and taught them to love the LORD with all their heart He led by example and provided a space for them to learn and grow in the light and warmth of The Gospel have Faith in the fact that we will see him again Cary Heard would tell you plainly if he were here BUT THE RETIREMENT PLAN IS OUT OF THIS WORLD Visitation will be from 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM on Thursday A memorial service will be at 11:00 AM on Friday The family wishes that any donations in honor of Cary’s life be made to either Park Hill Baptist Church at https://parkhillbaptist.org/give - or Arkansas Baptist Children & Family Ministries at https://www.abcfm.org/give-now Cary Street Partners is headquartered in Riverfront Plaza in downtown Richmond An acquisition-hungry local investment advisory firm is taking on new private equity backing to allow it to offer a payout to some of its previous investors and give it fuel for continued growth which has come to manage $10 billion in client assets through a steady series of acquisitions over the years announced this month a deal for funding from Chicago-based CIVC Partners Financial terms of the pending deal were not disclosed but Cary Street Partners CEO Joe Schmuckler confirmed that it involves giving CIVC a slight majority ownership stake “The idea here was this was a growth recapitalization We continue to grow and build new offices and build new teams,” said Schmuckler “I think it’s the next step in our maturation and our development.” Among the investors benefiting from the CIVC deal are New York investment banking firm Ducera Partners and Richmond-based Atlantic Union Bank both of which took a minority stake in CSP in recent years Atlantic Union will be fully relinquishing its CSP stake as a result of the CIVC transaction, while Ducera is selling down only part of its position. Atlantic Union first took a piece of CSP when it sold its in-house investment advisory operations to CSP in 2022 “We’ve never really had a distribution to investors or provided a serious liquidity option to investors,” Schmuckler said “We’ve had nothing but loyal investors and nobody has been knocking on the door to exit but we felt like it was the right thing to do.” Schmuckler said the new funding from CIVC is specifically targeted at allowing CSP to grow by acquiring both smaller competitors and recruiting teams of advisors from other firms It has made dozens of such moves over the years resulting in a footprint of 19 offices in seven states with 170 employees Schmuckler said the CIVC funding is needed to keep that expansion going “We’ve done what we could do ourselves and we got to the point where we needed real capital support,” he said “What we needed was a partner that had a lot of experience doing M&A That needed a capital partner to execute at a more rapid clip.” CSP began looking for a new investor about a year ago at a time when the investment advisory industry is seen as a hot sector for private equity firms “Private equity has been very active in our space for a number of years,” Schmuckler said “We’ve seen a lot of really good firms around the country take private equity for the same reasons we have.” As the CIVC deal awaits regulatory approval CSP continues to have an active acquisition pipeline it acquired Keene & Dorchak in Fort Worth Schmuckler said Florida is fertile ground for deals these days and CSP has an acquisition pending in Sarasota for May about 60 percent of the firm’s $10 billion in client assets are in its home state of Virginia And CSP has no plans to  move its headquarters outside of Richmond It continues to have its local offices downtown in Riverfront Plaza downtown and in Innsbrook No leadership changes are planned at CSP as part of CIVC taking a controlling stake recognized giving up majority ownership brings with it new bosses for him to answer to but there’s no question that with having a majority institutional investor at the table we’ll all have to raise our game,” Schmuckler said We want to build a greater company and that’s not going to come through a country club mentality.” Law firms Williams Mullen and Reed Smith served as CSP’s legal counsel in the private equity deal Financial advisors Dalphia Partners and Sherman & Company represented CSP and CIVC This story is for our paid subscribers only Please become one of the thousands of BizSense Pro readers today Renew now by choosing a subscription below YOU WILL BE CHARGED FOR A 1 YEAR MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL AT THE RATE IN EFFECT AT THAT TIME UNLESS YOU CANCEL YOUR MEMBERSHIP BY LOGGING IN OR BY CONTACTING SUPPORT@BUSINESSDEN.COM ALL CHARGES FOR MONTHLY OR ANNUAL MEMBERSHIPS ARE NONREFUNDABLE EACH MEMBERSHIP WILL ONLY FUNCTION ON UP TO 3 MACHINES ACCOUNTS ABUSING THAT LIMIT WILL BE DISCONTINUED FOR ASSISTANCE WITH YOUR MEMBERSHIP PLEASE EMAIL SUPPORT@BUSINESSDEN.COM Michael Schwartz is the editor of Richmond BizSense, and covers banking, lawsuits, finance, M&A and golf. Wake County Commissioners today approved plans to move forward with the construction of a new regional emergency medical services station in the Town of Cary. The 15,260-square-foot station is the second to be built under the system’s new regional model and will serve as a hub for EMS providers working in the western part of the county. “As Wake County’s population grows, our EMS system will have to grow with it, and we’re making sure that growth happens in a smart and sustainable way,” said Wake County Commissioner Cheryl Stallings. “Regional hubs like Cary Main EMS ensure that our responders have the resources they need to provide the highest standard of care to our residents now and in the future.” Currently, EMS units in Cary operate out of an interim location owned by the Town of Cary. The new station will create a base of operations for providers working in this area, with support functions that reduce the need for ambulances to travel back to a central location in Raleigh. Wake County EMS began the transition to the regional model of service with the opening of Garner Main EMS in December 2023. Cary Main EMS will be the second regional prototype under this model. “Wake County EMS is committed to providing prompt, compassionate and clinically excellent care to all our growing communities,” said Jon Studnek, director of Wake County EMS. “Having a regional home-base in the western part of Wake County gives our providers in that area better flexibility and puts out-of-service units back on the road quicker.” Cary Main EMS will include six bay spaces for parking emergency vehicles and two bays to service, stock and resupply EMS response units. The building will also include a vehicle maintenance and repair area, a decontamination space, room for additional inventory, supervisor offices and a dedicated training area. The new station is also an example of Wake County’s commitment to sustainability. It will include two electric vehicle charging ports, and will also be equipped with a 36.6 kW rooftop solar photovoltaic system expected to produce 70,000 kWh of energy per year, cutting both costs and greenhouse gas emissions. The 2.49-acre site for the new station is located at 819 Kildaire Farm Road. Construction is expected to cost $9.83 million. Wake County Commissioners agreed to award the construction contract to O’Connor Company of NC. A notice to proceed for construction is expected to be issued in late January 2025, and the project should be substantially complete in the spring of 2026. 1 Seeded Duke Set to Open ACC Championship in Cary4/17/2025 7:56:00 PM | Women's Tennis actively participating in the sport through college and with various local organizations He graduated from Northeast High School in Fort Lauderdale Following high school and his time at Broward Community College Cary dedicated himself to public service as a Police Officer in Pompano Beach leading the SWAT team and serving as a dedicated Homicide Investigator and unwavering commitment to justice left a lasting impact on the community he served Cary found true and complete happiness when he met Barbara After a whirlwind courtship of just six weeks they were engaged and married on January 25 Theirs was a love story that lasted a lifetime He treasured the moments he spent with his family always finding joy in their shared experiences Cary had a deep appreciation for the outdoors activities that brought him peace and contentment One of Cary's greatest joys was cooking with Barbara and he took great pride in making her a fresh cup of coffee every morning It was in these special moments that his love for her shone brightest you would find Cary loving life in cowboy boots and a belt buckle that reflected his love for the cowboy lifestyle Cary and Barbara loved attending live rodeos together in many states He always emphasized the importance of the American flag and deeply respected the opening prayer that began each event with whom he shared 50 wonderful years; his two daughters: Kylene Dean and their children Maelyn (5) and Dominic (4) Alexander Funeral Home & Cremation Center to the late Harry and Mary (Raspberry) Cary He was preceded in death by his brothers Doug and Donnie his sister Juanita and his daughter Lisa (Brad) Mark served alongside of his wife for 19 years in the Awana’s program at Aaron Lakes Baptist church was the treasurer of the church for 24 years and served on many other ministries in the church He was a coach with the Tokay Recreation center for many years Mark served his country in the US Air Force for 4 years and then served as the Chief Administrator A memorial service will be held on Saturday In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Northside Baptist Church in honor of Mark and his love of God passed away peacefully at home on March 19 He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years who resides in Chicago; godchildren Jake Mynatt Christy Kaufman and Kacey Scates; bonus daughter Teresa Koesler; sister Gale Dunsmore Rhea nieces Kim (Artie) Davis and Kristi (Bill) Ballew; lifelong friend Stevie served in the US Marines during the Vietnam War and worked for many years as a brakeman for Norfolk-Southern Railroad where his parents were raised and where he spent much of his time growing up He was “Fifi” to many and loved to create things from wood whether by whittling or elaborate saw work He was hilariously funny and loving and loyal He was always there for us anytime we needed him but we will see him again on the other side.  A private family service will be held at a later date
