The gift was approved during a meeting on January 28 and was celebrated at the Rock of Hope Gala last week

The Rock of Hope Campaign has now raised more than $10 million of their goal of $14 million for the cancer care center on campus inside the Schrader Building
“This is a huge step forward for Douglas County,” said Commissioner Kevin Van Winkle
“No family is free from the devastating effects of cancer

“You don’t know that Castle Rock does not have cancer care until you need it,” said Marcy Blair

“Eight rounds of chemo and 37 rounds of radiation later
I have to thank Douglas County for standing with us to bring expert cancer care to our community.”

“Supporting healthy families in Douglas County means being there for citizens who may be struggling the most
Providing cancer care where there was none before is a powerful investment that we believe will truly save lives and make a meaningful difference for good in our community,” said Douglas County Commissioner Abe Laydon
community members raised a further $240,000 to go towards the Rock of Hope Campaign and future cancer care at AdventHealth Castle Rock
“A heartfelt thanks to the Gala event committee and especially to co-chairs
The afterglow of the Gala will illuminate our way forward toward bringing cancer care to Castle Rock,” said Harmony Furlong
AdventHealth Castle Rock Foundation Director

(KKTV) - A Castle Rock man was sentenced on Tuesday to 32 years to life in prison for sexual assault on a child
according to the 23rd Judicial District Attorney’s Office
The DA said 55-year-old Eugene Howard Glimpse was found guilty in January of three counts of sexual assault on a child
including enticement and one count of sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust
but the DA said the assaults occurred when he lived in Castle Rock between 2002 and 2012
Chief Deputy District Attorney Danielle Jaramillo called Glimpse a “monster” and said justice was served
“There was a long road to justice for these three victims
Glimpse likely spending the rest of his life behind bars
the scales of justice have finally been balanced,” Jaramillo said

— Nighttime closures will be in effect this week as the installation of new bridge structure occurs over Interstate 25 as part of the Crystal Valley Interchange Project
designed to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion
The project will "improve safety and mobility in the surrounding community," according to thetown's website, and serve as a "key regional transportation link from I-25 to southern Castle Rock and Douglas County."
Closures will first begin on Southbound I-25 on March 9 and 10 from 10:30 p.m
The closure will be from Exit 181 (Plum Creek Parkway) to Exit 174 (Tomah Road) with traffic detoured onto East Frontage Road
Northbound I-25 will be closed from 10 p.m
from Exit 174 to Exit 181 with traffic being detoured onto East Frontage Road
Two weeks ago, an equipment malfunction occurred during the overnight closure
resulting in heavy traffic during the morning hours
The project team brought in a replacement crane that could support the girder weight
and the team is "adhering to all safety evaluations and standards to finish the overnight closures," according to a Castle Rock official
Melanie and Craig Hood can see the construction from their backyard and are prepared to take alternate routes this week
we can go the backway through Plum Creek and we'll get on the highway up a little bit north of here and we'll be fine," Craig Hood said
The couple has lived in Castle Rock for over 30 years and has seen the changes come to the area
they both recognize it comes with the growth of the area
"I see it as an advantage because they've built so much along the Frontage Road
which seems kind of crazy for Frontage Road
so the bypass being able to jump on the highway right away and getting to Littleton
will be a big advantage with some detriments."
Ellen Staton is another Castle Rock resident who has watched the construction unfold from her home

— Castle Rock Creamery is not “new” new but the artisanal
small-batch ice creamery recently upgraded from an ice cream truck — which basin residents and visitors may already know from this summer — to a brick-and-mortar at 290 Kingsbury Grade Road in Stateline
The creamery has a variety of traditional and non-traditional flavors
as well as a wide selection of non-dairy options
all handmade and sourced “as locally (or ethically) as possible,” according to chef and owner Josh Fisher.
“We like to have some traditional things that are familiar — we’ll always have Vanilla
One iconic ice cream flavor to try? Hank the Tank Tracks, a play on Moose Tracks that references Tahoe’s notorious 500-pound black bear burglar
Fisher also highlights the shop’s many vegan and non-dairy options
“Sometime places have just that token non-dairy option to be able to say they serve those customers
but we’re not just doing vanilla,” says Fisher
The shop’s non-dairy flavors include Coffee Crunch
and Apple Cider Sherbet with apples sourced from Apple Hill Growers in El Camino
Also on offer: affogato with any available flavor
Fisher recommends Salted Caramel White Russian.
Fisher and his wife, Amy Weeks, opened the business this summer with an ice cream truck
The truck visited a number of events around the basin before being stashed for the winter
“The trailer is parked for the winter because it doesn’t like below-freezing temperatures
but we’re going to pull it back out in the spring when we know winter has passed,” says Fisher
“We’ll be doing special events
from weddings to farmer’s markets (like the one down in Minden) and Food Truck Fridays in Reno.”
who attended culinary school right out of high school
came across an ice cream machine early in his career.
‘man that could be fun,‘” says Fisher
gravitating towards the simplicity and open-ended creativity of ice cream as a medium
Fisher and his wife are in Tahoe for the long haul
I’m excited to keep developing the storefront and use the trailer to expand,” says Fisher
“We’re excited to see how far we can go.”

— One person died after a fire sparked inside a home in Castle Rock on Presidents Day
Castle Rock Fire and Rescue (CRFD) received multiple 911 calls
as well as a report by a Castle Rock police officer
about a fire at a home near the intersection of Fourth and Lewis streets
Firefighters were initially told that there were possibly two people trapped in the house
crews determined that only one person was in the home and pulled them to safety
The person was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died
Their identity will be released by the Douglas County Coroner's Office
Town officials said a family cat was also killed in the fire
CRFD determined the fire was burning between several layers of roofing material
Officials had to remove the roof and the home's second floor to fully extinguish the fire
Investigators determined the fire was accidental
They also found that the house did not have working smoke detectors
Town officials said the scene was cleared at 5 p.m
and monitored overnight for any additional hotspots
South Metro Fire Rescue and Franktown Fire Protection District assisted with the firefight
CASTLE ROCK — A woman from Castle Rock has pleaded guilty to voter fraud and has been sentenced to serve 20 days in jail
70-year-old Joy Beth Lewis pleaded guilty to voter fraud after she voted her deceased landlord's ballot
According to a representative from the 23rd Judicial District
Lewis admitted to "receiving a presidential ballot mailed to her deceased landlord
Lewis was caught after the widow of the deceased landlord contacted the Douglas County Clerk and Recorder’s Office notifying them that she had received a message that her husband
had cast his ballot for the Colorado presidential primary
according to an arrest affidavit in the case
The Douglas County District Attorney’s Office followed up with the widow
who said that the property in Castle Rock from which the vote was submitted had been leased since at least December of 2023 after she and her husband moved from Colorado to New Mexico in the first few months of 2020
officials from the District Attorney’s Office visited the home in Castle Rock where they were met by Lewis
who initially denied signing and submitting her dead landlord’s ballot
But after explaining that the DA’s office would have to submit the ballot as evidence of voter fraud and have it submitted for DNA
Lewis confirmed the handwriting on the ballot was hers
When asked why she signed her dead landlord’s ballot
Lewis replied she “got sick of forwarding their mail
I just voted for him,” according to the affidavit
She told the DA official she was not aware the man she signed the ballot for had died
When the DA official told her that casting someone else’s ballot was a crime
Lewis said “she did not realize it was ‘serious’" and she “thought it was OK to send it in,” the documents show
the DA’s office then went to the Douglas County Clerk and Recorder in early June
where staff confirmed that Lewis had also cast her own ballot for the presidential primary and that her vote was accepted
the DA’s office then notified Lewis that she would only be getting a ticket for the crime for signing and submitting her dead landlord’s ballot
she said she didn’t know “why I did that,” documents show
Lewis went to the Douglas County DA’s office at the request of the official
who told her she would only be getting a ticket and was free to leave after that
