Attorney Heather Jackson said Nagel knew the boy’s age because he had earlier coached his youth league softball team and had the team photo on his phone and posted on his refrigerator And to meet The teen told jurors he eventually texted Nagel to meet for sex because Nagel had “blown up” his phone with texts and messages “I just tried to get it over and done with,” the teen testified He said they met at the Hoing-Rice Softball complex at around 3:30 p.m 15 and had sexual contact in the back of Nagel’s vehicle Nagel said he was concerned with the location because neighbors might stanza on Sunday as the Panthers shutout the Valparaiso Beacons by a score of 7-0 at Robinson-Dresser Sports Complex to round out the 2025 regular season With the win, Northern Iowa finishes the He’s an Iowa kid from Urbandale who played for the University of Iowa before being drafted by the Minnesota Twins in 2023 Connor Schultz came on in relief for South Bend to begin the second inning going head to head against Langenberg on the mound He’s an Iowa kid from Cedar Falls who was Langenberg’s teammate with the Hawkeyes during the 2022 season Schultz began his college career at Butler University Meyer just happened to be in the home team dugout Tuesday night as the Kernels manager “I recruited him at Butler,” Meyer said Then their manager being my coach at Butler .. Butler’s head coach when Schultz was there was Dave Schrage who coached at the University of Northern Iowa from 1991 to 1999 His successor at the school was Rick Heller who obviously was Schultz’s head coach his one year at Iowa Once Meyer left Butler for a job in the Twins organization in 2020 he was replaced as volunteer assistant coach by Jake Ratz a 26-year-old right hander who took the difficult route to affiliated professional baseball After his graduate season at Iowa concluded in 2022 he signed with the Missoula PaddleHeads of the independent Pioneer League He spent the summer of 2022 in Montana, then returned for the 2023 season, where he was a regular member of the starting pitching rotation and a league all-star. He once again was a PaddleHead to begin last season when the Chicago Cubs offered him a minor league contract in early June “This was always the goal,” Schultz said The goal there for everybody is to get signed by a MLB club and play affiliated ball so this was always something I was working towards “I had a really good year my full season started thinking that maybe something would happen But I went through the whole offseason with nothing Then about a month into the next season I got the call.” Schultz threw in five games for the Rookie-level Arizona Complex League Cubs and eight for low-Class A Myrtle Beach posting a combined earned run average of 1.91 He broke spring training with high-A South Bend and is 0-2 with a 4.50 ERA in six games striking out five in 3 1/3 innings but took an unlucky loss after the pitcher who relieved him allowed a hit that scored the only run charged against him “It has been awesome,” Schultz said “I’ve made a lot of good friends Thanks to the Cubs for taking a chance on me I think I’ve made the most of it so far.” Schultz said the adjustment to professional baseball hasn’t been as big as it was for him going from Butler to Iowa He credited former Hawkeyes pitching coach Robin Lund now an assistant pitching coach with MLB’s Detroit Tigers saying a lot of what Iowa does technology wise and training wise is what professional organizations are doing Schultz said he doesn’t have any numbers-related goals the rest of this season He just wants to be able to take the ball whenever it is given to him and do the best he can “The big one is obviously stay healthy I’ve got to take care of my body,” he said I kind of had a problem where I’d lose velo So I’ve started to kind of get into a better plan so I can last a whole season Prep Sports & Minor League Sports Reporter. Principal talks about new Cedar Falls High School CEDAR FALLS — The principal of Cedar Falls High School has resigned. In an email addressed to “CFHS” that was provided to the Courier, Jason Wedgbury said, “After careful consideration and reflection, I have made the decision to resign from my position, effective at the end of the current contract year. … “This decision was not made lightly, but I believe it’s the right choice for me at this stage of my journey. … “Over the coming months, I’ll do everything I can to ensure a smooth transition. I remain fully committed to supporting the building and staff through the remainder of the year.” The resignation was confirmed by a human resources report posted on the Cedar Falls Community School District’s website, which simply recommended the approval of Wedgbury’s resignation. “The district intends to appoint an interim principal for the 2025–2026 school year, with a comprehensive search planned for December/January to identify a permanent hire for the 2026–2027 school year,” said Janell Darst, director of communications and community relations for the district. “As a policy, the district does not comment on personnel matters.” Wedgbury, who previously served as principal at Peet Junior High School, was recommended for the high school principal position by Superintendent Andy Pattee in 2014. He joined the district in 2010. Efforts to reach Wedgbury and Pattee for comment went unanswered. CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — A Cedar Falls man is facing several charges after leading police on a chase Monday night. Cedar Falls officers tried to pull over a silver 2003 Volkswagen Jetta around 8 p.m. near Grove Street and University Avenue. Police say the driver, 40-year-old Benjamin William Kreimeyer, of Cedar Falls, had several active arrest warrants in Black Hawk County. Instead of stopping, Kreimeyer sped off, leading officers on a chase through town and into a nearby field. He then jumped out of the car and ran. When police caught up to him near Pine and 7th streets in Janesville, he showed a knife but was arrested without anyone getting hurt. Kreimeyer is now facing charges for his outstanding warrants, trying to get away from police, reckless driving, and interfering with officers while armed. He’s also being cited for multiple traffic violations. while Senior went 0-for-8 and settled for five free throws The result: An insurmountable 43-19 halftime deficit “It was a tough start for us and they started out on fire,” said Senior’s Drake Medinger dollars after forming their own cooperative thanks to fundraising efforts and help from several outside parties — including lenders and the city of Bangor residents may have owned their homes but not the land the homes sat on Longtime resident and one of the driving forces behind the effort said this left residents vulnerable to potential rent hikes and even being displaced when they were notified that the park was going up for sale and an outside buyer had made a bid “They don’t ever have to worry about it being sold I remember one elderly gentleman told me ‘I want to die here This is my home.’ I’ll always remember he said that to me who is also the president of the Cedar Falls Mobile Home Park Co-Op board The 79-acre park is primarily home to seniors and families We’ve finally made it over the threshold where we’ve signed the closing and we actually own the park right now,” said Alvin MacNevin resident and treasurer of the Cedar Falls board of directors MacNevin was also heavily involved in pushing the effort to buy the park forward “We got notice that the park was being sold in the end of August and then they informed us that we needed petitions put out that more than half of the park had to sign in order to go any further,” said MacNevin “Then we had to submit offers to the owners of the park to see if they would accept the offers.” Pinkham and MacNevin said the community is teaming up with Bangor Housing to add dozens of new homes to the nearly 130-residence lot will provide a $3 million dollar loan to help develop the park’s 28 empty lots we have to notify all the residents of the changeover The non-profit Cooperative Development Institute helped park residents in this process director of resident acquisitions at the institute said the nonprofit provided residents with technical advising throughout the purchase process “We supported them getting organized to respond to the original notice of sale brought an attorney to the table to represent the co-op supported them through seller negotiations convened weekly meetings for six months to build a business plan for ownership solicited financing for the community to decide on and lender teams around low-cost financing and grant availability and helped them develop and adopt cooperative organization documents,” said Gosselin Gosselin said the Cooperative Development Institute will also provide ongoing technical advising as they step into resident ownership Owners of manufactured home communities are required to notify residents when their park goes up for sale under a new state This year RAGBRAI will overnight in Cedar Falls, which Liu said she hopes will attract sponsors, mentors and youths. "I felt like all the stars lined up for us," she said. "I hope we'll get a lot of attention in the local community." She needs to raise $2,000 by March 1 for the team to start indoor training on time at a local recreation center. Liu's son rode all of RAGBRAI last year with his Dad. But going through the Dream Team's program will still benefit him, she said. "It's a team-building experience for him and a life experience because when you ride as a team it's a different challenge than when you ride with your Dad," Liu said. Could Dream Team expand statewide or beyond? If the Cedar Valley program works, the hope is eventually to create more affiliated Dream Teams, Matter said. "I know that this will be the most diverse team in Dream Team history and the most diverse team on RAGBRAI," Matter said of this year's Des Moines squad. "We'd love to see that in Cedar Falls and other places." Philip Joens covers retail and real estate for the Des Moines Register.
