The ongoing disaster led to widespread health concerns forced evacuations and increasing demands for government intervention the colossal flooding was caused by a huge garbage plug 50 meters wide by 2.4 meters deep in the Solidaridad Storm Drain “What we are seeing in Chalco is the result of water and city management that is far from sustainable,” Greenpeace México said in a statement following the floods “We have been calling [the government] for sustainable management of cities and water for years and for corporations to be required by law to take responsibility for the plastic pollution they generate,” the statement said “What have the state and federal governments done?” the neighborhoods of Jacalones and Culturas de México were once again affected when foul-smelling water gushed out of the drainage system and entered homes The newspaper La Jornada reported that residents are once again struggling to evacuate it “This is our reality now,” Ricardo Carreño Marroquín We are physically and emotionally exhausted” he stressed ADVERTISE WITH MND COMMUNITY GUIDELINES Subscription FAQ's Privacy Policy Mexico News Daily - Property of Tavana LLC Share on FacebookShare on X (formerly Twitter)Share on PinterestShare on LinkedInCHALCO (WOWT) - A Westside High School teacher and her husband are dead after a domestic violence incident ended in a shootout at a home on the southwest edge of the Omaha-metro Sarpy County Sheriff Jeff Davis said in an update Monday that deputies found Rebecca Geiger dead in her Chalco Hills-area home after shots were exchanged near South 143rd Street and Meadows Parkway at about 3 a.m Authorities said Geiger’s 19-year-old daughter had called 911 telling operators her father had shot her mother — and that he had a gun pointed at her Rory Geiger then turned his attention to the deputies though Davis said it was a person inside the home who fired the first shot “There was gunfire initiated by a subject from inside the house — out the plate glass window One of our officers returned fire," the sheriff said Deputies then went into the home and found Rory Geiger deceased Life-saving measures were performed on the victim The couples' two daughters were in the house when the shooting started Officials said the girls could have been in serious trouble 6 News was first on the scene Monday morning Authorities said they had been to the house about a month earlier for an incident “There was an alert on the house because of a response they received at the time,” Davis said that individual told hs ‘be careful; you shouldn‘t come back here.’” Five deputies involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave Investigators are looking at bodycams worn by the deputies as well as cameras inside and outside the home They‘re not yet sure whether Rory Geiger’s fatal wounds were self-inflicted or from a shot fired by a Sarpy County deputy regardless of whether he took his own life or whether he was shot by one of our people most definitely them responding and entering saved probably the lives of both those girls.” Davis said deputies found several guns in the house Geiger was a special education teacher who had just started her 10th year at Westside High School “She was just a very kind teacher,” said Elizabeth Power with Westdside Community Schools “She was so good at helping her students feel very seen and very loved and very much like they belonged here at Westside High School which is such an important thing for any student The district has set up its crisis response team Counselors will be available all week long Get the latest breaking news delivered to your inbox. In a country where disputes over land ownership are commonplace due to weak enforcement mechanisms, tenants’ rights laws in Mexico make it very hard for property owners to push squatters off their property — as noted in a Mexico News Daily article about the rigors of renting in Mexico. Frustrated by what she perceived as inaction from authorities Carlota reportedly took matters into her own hands The victims’ family stated they were tenants with a rental agreement provided by a third party though they admitted uncertainty about whether that person was himself a squatter images of one victim posing with firearms have fueled speculation about potential criminal ties among those attacked no definitive evidence has linked them to organized crime Carlota’s arrest has triggered widespread debate online. Memes, caricatures and even a corrido — a traditional Mexican ballad — have been created to immortalize her actions — Carlos Jiménez (@c4jimenez) April 3, 2025 The corrido portrays her as a figure of justice reclaiming her home: “An angry granny went to get rid of the thugs. They invaded her house. The granny wanted justice.” (See the full lyrics here.) While some hailed Carlota as a hero who took matters into her own hands in response to systemic failures others criticized her as a cold-blooded murderer arguing that violence cannot be justified under any circumstances her story has raised questions about justice property rights and the limits of self-defense One dissenting voice on social media stated “Those who romanticize the old murderer… [she] is neither a vengeful grandmother nor a righteous grandmother; [she] is a hit woman.” “A new Mexican superhero… none other than the avenging granny.” Carlota’s legal status remains unresolved; as of Friday morning she and her accomplices were being held in detention but authorities reportedly had until the end of the day to transfer them to state prison for an initial hearing During her morning press conference Friday, President Claudia Sheinbaum confirmed investigations into Carlota and the incident “We need to review it carefully,” she said “We’ll await all the information from the state prosecutor’s office and then give our opinion.” The incident brought to mind the case of Juana Barraza Samperio, a former professional wrestler who was dubbed “La Mataviejitas” (The Little Old Lady Killer) after she was arrested in 2006 for the killing of 17 women — “although she likely killed many more,” wrote Mexico News Daily. non-clustered predicted proteins in the 12 sediment core samples analyzed of which 3,227,398 could be annotated against the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) non-redundant (NR) protein database The high number of predicted proteins in our study is an indication of the enormous metabolic diversity within Lake Chalco sediments This suggests that Chalco’s metagenomes have great potential for exploring biotic processes in detail and that the lake deposits may possess biotechnology potential for investigating oil recovery or biodegradation of pollutants and toxic compounds (A) Functional classification of the predicted proteins of the Lake Chalco sediment metagenomes Samples are ordered from shallowest to deepest samples Heatmap distribution of the enzymes (or subunits of of environmental change throughout the sediment sequence Microbial profiling was described against sediment depth because we did not conduct analysis to differentiate between living and dead cells and we are aware that using the prokaryotic assemblage as a stratigraphic indicator is challenging and beyond the scope of this contribution suggest a strong relationship with the three paleoenvironmental zones Climate and limnological inferences for the three Holocene zones in the Lake Chalco sediment core: (1) cool The horizontal bar represents the time range of each zone determined during this study and by previous studies cited in the text The right bar shows the microbiota and enzyme pathways found in each paleoenvironmental zone freshwater lake) suggest high lacustrine productivity The most abundant Eukarya families (algae) are associated with freshwater conditions hyposaline lake) suggest periods of intense evaporation and high productivity Highest TOC values suggest eutrophic conditions Mn/Fe values in zones 1 and 2 suggest periods of anoxic bottom waters in the lake subsaline) is characterized by a slight increase in lake depth and a decrease in salinity Geochemical variables Ti and Ti/Fe suggest greater rainfall and runoff High diversity of fungal pathogens of crops and highest abundance of Poaceae (grasses) we suggest that our microbial composition also reflects aspects of burial and early diagenesis The sample from a depth of 60 cm displays a stronger association with the subsaline zone than to the hyposaline and the sample from 185 cm shows greater affinity with the freshwater zone than with the hyposaline zone Both samples may reflect transitional periods A total of 527 unique pfams are found in this zone plasmids and transposable elements” subsystems and nitrogen metabolism genes related with anoxic and extreme environmental conditions Metagenomics is a powerful complement to traditional paleolimnological approaches and contributes to better understanding the historical ecology of aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems and biotic processes in the Neotropical-Nearctic transition zone Microbes found in the subsurface biosphere represent descendents of surface communities that were buried in the past Metagenomics proved suitable to describe Holocene biological diversity and trophic state and human activities) in and around high-altitude Challenges involved with using this novel metagenomic approach for study of lacustrine ecosystems include acquisition of good-quality DNA from sed(a)DNA and taxonomic gaps in available genomic databases especially from high-diversity aquatic ecosystems in the tropics Fungi was one of the most sensitive bioindicators of past vegetation Our study illustrates how new genomics techniques can shed light on the history of biota in and around aquatic ecosystems especially in the poorly studied Neotropics We present the workflow schematically (Fig. 2) The two topmost samples are considered modern samples were frozen in the field and stored in liquid nitrogen at − 80 °C A second 250-cm-long sediment sequence was collected from the same lake location for geochemical and diatom analysis Sediment stratigraphy was identical in both cores which dates to 12,500 cal years BP halophilous (hyposaline) or alkaliphilus (subsaline) The same environmental succession reported by Caballero and Ortega (1998) The base of the core dates to about 12,500 cal years BP as indicated by the presence of the UTP (Upper Toluca Pumice) and sediments overlying this stratigraphic marker are rich in freshwater taxa that characterized the cooler deglacial at the end of the Pleistocene Ti is associated with allochthonous material To remove the influence of allochthonous material on changing stratigraphic concentrations of phosphorus Fe/Ti and TOC were measured and used for comparison with our metagenomic results Principal Components Analysis (PCA) was used to identify co-variables (data and plots not shown) and we selected the three most informative variables in the sediments related to proxies for productivity (TOC) redox condition (Mn/Fe) and erosion/transport (Ti/Fe) DNA was isolated from the 12 Holocene sediment samples taken from the Lake Chalco core. Each sample was sequenced using two NGS methods (Supplementary Fig. S2) To obtain the amount of DNA required for sequencing each sediment sample was processed in quadruplicate with the exception of the four deepest sediment samples that were sampled twelve folds we included a negative control (mock) and amplification directed at the 16S rRNA gene to ensure reliable controls The metagenomic DNA was isolated using the Powersoil DNA Isolation Kit (Mo Bio Laboratories DNA purity and quantity were estimated using a NanoDrop spectrophotometer DNA integrity was checked in 0.8% agarose gels a PCR reaction for the 16S rRNA gene (v3-v4) was conducted The positive alignments were selected using BLAST (e-value 1e−10; 90% identity; minimum alignment length of 15 bp; choosing the best hit) we also searched the enzymes of the biosynthetic pathways of the main coenzymes involved in biological methane production and the enzymes present in the Wood-Ljungdahl pathway (homoacetogenesis) Cutoff values used in the searches were an identity value > 35% query coverage of 85% and an e-value < 1 × 10−6 Sequences that passed the cutoff were aligned with MUSCLE v3.9.31 Results were analyzed and visualized with R v.3.6.3 Sequences from this project are available in the Bioproject accession PRJNA522291 SRA NCBI access: Metagenome: 200_4 (Access number: SRX5450430);200_3 (Access number: SRX5450429);200_2 (Access number: SRX5450428);200_1 (Access number: SRX5450427);100_4 (Access number: SRX5450426);100_3 (Access number: SRX5450425);100_2 (Access number: SRX5450424);100_1 (Access number: SRX5450423);50_2 (Access number: SRX5450422);50_1 (Access number: SRX5450421);S_2 (Access number: SRX5450420);S_1 (Access number: SRX5450419) Effects of regional subsidence and earthquakes on architectural monuments in Mexico City Boletín de la Sociedad Geológica Mexicana 65 Climate change in lowland Central America during the late deglacial and early Holocene Vegetation assemblages of central Mexico through the late Quaternary: Modern analogs and compositional turnover Holocene environmental history of tropical inferred from ostracodes and non-biological indicators Pérez, L. et al. community The grand opening of Dom’s Park was held Saturday Dozens of people and kids were out to celebrate the occasion at Chalco Hills Recreation Area “The fact that this exists still is something beyond words for us the reality is we set out on a pipe dream to build something in memory of Dominik and it just we’d be lying if there wasn’t a seed of doubt saying how are we going to get this done and our community backed us up,” says Ryan Walters Dominik (Dom) Walters died in August 2018 after he suffered a cardiac arrest while doing cannonballs off a dock with his dad Dom’s family wanted to create something to keep his memory alive The family created the Dominik Walters Memorial Fund and through donations were able to cover some costs of the playground Additional funding for the playground came through grants from the Papio-Missouri River Natural Resource District and playground company The playground features a host of Dom’s favorite things “Everything from bongo drums to xylophones to a glockenspiel to there’s a rocket ship in the structure in the middle to race cars and a giant slide and a bouncy bridge that he loved so much All sort of things that Dom loved when he went to other playgrounds,” says Tiffany Walters The Walters say they chose to put the playground at Chalco Hills Recreation Area because they brought Dom there a lot and say the area really means a lot to the whole family Dom’s parents say he was a fun-loving and active kid “He really helped us slow down and remember what’s important He liked sunsets and rainbows and butterflies we think about slowing down and taking things in.” They also say they couldn’t have thought of a better way to keep Dom’s memory alive most proud of this is seeing all the other kids enjoying it that are here and this place has been crazy busy since Dom’s park is located in the northwest corner of Chalco Hills Recreation Area near Picnic Area A Global law firm DLA Piper has advised Chalco Iron Ore Holdings (CIOH) on its investment in the Simandou iron ore deposit in Guinea DLA Piper was appointed in July 2023 and has provided legal advice on multiple aspects of the project The firm says the Simandou mine is touted as the largest and richest undeveloped high-grade iron ore deposit in the world it is a significant transaction that will help to decarbonise the steel industry as well as make a COVID pandemic and further increase self-sufficiency Aluminum Corporation of China Ltd (Chalco) a centrally administered State-owned enterprise is set to send its first shipment from a bauxite mine in Boffa the company told China Daily in a written statement A large ocean-going ship laden with high quality bauxite from Boffa in Guinea Chalco's first large-scale overseas aluminum project is about to arrive at the Fangchenggang port in the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region a major cooperation project between China and Guinea that started construction in 2018 will be completed two months ahead of schedule It will not only bring mutual benefits and win-win results for both sides but also become an important source of overseas bauxite resources for Chalco Bauxite is a rock which can be refined and is the main source in the world for aluminum Chalco is a leading company in China's nonferrous metals industry It is engaged in the whole value chain by exploring and mining bauxite and coal primary aluminum and aluminum alloy products It is also involved in international trade and power generation from both fossil fuels and new energy products Industry analysts believe the Boffa project plays a significant role in ensuring the company's sourcing of raw materials "China's mining companies have been going overseas to secure a stable supply of raw materials has entered into an agreement to develop the Boffa bauxite in Guinea in order to increase its self-sufficiency in bauxite to 75 percent by the end of 2021," said Zhu Yi a senior analyst for metals and mining at Bloomberg Zhu believes the full production ramp-up of the Boffa mine could lift Chalco's bauxite output by 80 percent by the end of 2021 The mine has an expected life span of 60 years with full-capacity annual production forecast at 12 million metric tons The company said the initial phase consists of production of 12 million tons of bauxite ore per year The available resource reserves in the mining area of the project is around 1.75 billion tons and the company plans first phase construction with an annual output capacity of 12 million tons Zhu said Chalco has been investing to increase its self-sufficiency of raw materials such as bauxite and alumina and increasing its ratio of captive power to reduce costs amid ample output of aluminum of China with power costs accounting for more than 40 percent of total production costs It is believed the new infrastructure plan will also boost China's aluminum consumption and push for structural changes of China's aluminum industry to produce more high value-added products China has pledged fresh efforts to push forward the construction of new infrastructure including next-generation information networks as well as building more new energy vehicle charging facilities to promote the wider use of new energy automobiles a government work report delivered at the annual national legislative session said a former deputy head of the National Development and Reform Commission said the country's investment in "new infrastructure" is expected to reach 17.5 trillion yuan ($2.47 trillion) for the 2020-2025 period an annualized growth rate of around 21.6 percent While China's aluminum industry is currently oversupplied with low-end commodity grade products it is in a supply deficit for high-end products The construction of inter-city high speed train and 5G base station requires high-end aluminum products She believes China's exports of aluminum products will decline this year by around 10 percent The demand from export-oriented home appliance and auto producers for aluminum products will also fall as these producers find it difficult at this time to export Chalco said as the COVID-19 pandemic develops overseas the company has hired local medical teams to provide guidance and support for workers at the Boffa project to ensure their security and well-being The company has also been teaming up with local partners to sustain its project even though many infrastructure project operations overseas have been slowed by the disease To make sure the project operates on schedule the Guinea branch of the company has covered all the flight and quarantine expenses to send staff back to Guinea to push the project forward All of its overseas units and offices have strictly complied with the COVID-19 prevention and control measures These measures have laid down protocols for each project in accordance with local conditions The firm has donated a huge amount of pandemic-prevention supplies as well as medical equipment worth more than 1.54 million yuan to several countries Sarpy County Administrator Mark Wayne pores over topographical maps in his Papillion office He's explaining the boundaries and makeup of Chalco they don't have any other elected officials so they really don't have authority to do anything," he says Looking down the main street in the non-subdivision part of Chalco The middle portion of Chalco is undeveloped There are 50 unincorporated communities in Nebraska ranging from 10 people to more than 10,000 incorporation authorizes a town to form a government The northern and southern ends are parceled into neat well-dressed subdivisions with names like Willow Creek and Birchfield A narrow stretch across the middle is undeveloped fields A central portion is a mix of commercial businesses as well as residential homes in various states of charm or disrepair is its size: the 2010 Census lists its population as just shy of 11,000 people The next largest CDP is Offutt Air Force Base; third is Woodland Park located just outside of Norfolk with about 1,800 people Chavez lives in unincorporated Sarpy County while Devaux has lived in Chalco for more than a decade without realizing it isn't incorporated Chavez said she's noticed the inefficient handling of waste "Everyone uses different companies," she said with a laugh adding she sees trucks from four or five providers however; Wayne said many people probably don't realize they live in Chalco "Most people probably don't even know what Chalco is," he said "And (they) probably feel aligned with the metro area because in this case they border the county line." But what does it really mean to be unincorporated And how does a town become incorporated in the first place "The law provides that if an area has at least 100 population they can petition the county to become incorporated," said Gary Krumland assistant director and legal counsel for the Nebraska League of Municipalities Benefits of incorporation include self-government "An incorporated municipality does have the authority to impose taxes." There's also a good deal of paperwork that goes along with being incorporated - so incorporation can add a lot of responsibilities But it's also unlikely to be annexed any time soon Wayne said though Omaha shares a border with Chalco it'll be a while yet before the city spreads far enough west to even consider annexation the increased taxes might not be enough to cover city services the city would decide whether they have the ability to provide city services to this area," he said Those are pretty basic functions of a community law enforcement is provided by the county sheriff and a nearby Millard Rural Fire Department station is contracted to handle any fires School districts aren't bound by city limits They're also called Sanitary Improvement Districts and they levy a fee on residents to provide needed services like sewage and street upkeep they're pretty uncommon in most of the country "It's somewhat unique to Nebraska," Wayne said "A lot of other states don't allow that at all because the city of Lincoln wants to control where the growth is So they only extend their sewer and water in certain areas and that's where the developers have to go." There are some downsides to being unincorporated: no public libraries If Chalco residents want to use the Omaha or La Vista public libraries Lack of a cohesive city plan can also lead to sloppy development Wayne said - as with the middle section of Chalco This makes it difficult for the county to guide growth It's also part of the reason why most states don't allow SIDs It's hard to say whether the fees collected by SIDs or the taxes levied by a city are higher Neither Chavez nor Devaux knew offhand the amount their SIDs charge for services Devaux said she doesn't really vote anyway but Chavez said she would appreciate being able to elect community representatives Get the latest from around Nebraska delivered to your inbox online and mobile platforms.Your support is essential The federal government has formally announced that it will build a passenger rail project to link three México state municipalities to the east of Mexico City the 27.9-billion-peso (US $1.5-billion) project will connect Chalco to the Santa Martha Metro station in the Mexico City borough of Iztapalapa electrically-powered railroad will likely have seven stations including the two terminals and run via the municipalities of Valle de Chalco and Ixtapaluca The project is similar to one announced by the former federal government that never got off the ground It planned to extend line A of the Metro to Chalco from its southern terminus in La Paz The project was forecast to cost 11.6 billion pesos but was never allocated the resources The newspaper El Universal reported that the former government instead decided to build the Mexicable cable car system in the México state municipality of Ecatepec The current government has already allocated resources in its 2021 budget to begin construction of the new project A cost-benefit analysis conducted by a private firm was delivered to the government at the end of last year The rail project would not only benefit residents of Chalco Valle de Chalco and Ixtapaluca but also people living in other densely populated México state municipalities that are part of greater Mexico City’s southeastern sprawl It is predicted that almost 138,000 passengers will use the rail service per day in its first year of operation and that demand will increase to just over 168,000 in 2025 The government has several other rail projects on its hands It intends to complete the Mexico City-Toluca intercity railroad which was left incomplete by the Peña Nieto administration and extend the Mexico City suburban rail line to the new Santa Lucía airport that is currently under construction In addition, the government is building the Maya Train in the country’s southeast and plans to upgrade the rail link across the Isthmus of Tehuantepec between Salina Cruz Source: El Universal (sp)  We use cookies to ensure you get the best experience on our website You can learn more about our cookies and privacy policies China Debuts $3 Billion State Iron Ore Giant Exclusive: China Close to Setting Up Iron Ore Trading Giant Participation of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the 5th Eastern Economic Forum Discussed in Moscow Get exposure for your startup at RISE 2020 CreditEase’s Tang Ning: China’s Wealth Management Market is Undergoing Five Major Shifts Meet 5 of the best startups selected to represent China at the largest technology event in Asia Share on FacebookShare on X (formerly Twitter)Share on PinterestShare on LinkedInOMAHA (WOWT) - Metrics details Perovskite-related materials have received increasing attention for their broad applications in photovoltaic solar cells and information technology due to their unique electrical and magnetic properties Here we report three new antiperovskite chalco-halides: Ba3(FeS4)Cl All of them were found to be good solar light absorbers although the shortest Fe-Fe distance exceeds 6 Å an unexpected anti-ferromagnetic phase transition near 100 K was observed in their magnetic susceptibility measurement The corresponding complex magnetic structures were resolved by neutron diffraction experiments as well as investigated by first-principles electronic structure calculations The spin-spin coupling between two neighboring Fe atoms along the b axis which is realized by the Fe-S···S-Fe super-super exchange mechanism was found to be responsible for this magnetic phase transition New perovskite materials have been infused with various undiscovered new physical functions It is interesting to investigate what properties will appear in the antiperovskite halides for B = X (X = Cl an anisotropic atomic group containing a transition metal at the A site may result in certain new novel chemical/physical properties three new antiperovskite chalco-halides M3AB (Ba3(FeS4)Cl All these chalco-halides showed semiconducting behavior in UV-vis absorption and electrical transport measurements an unexpected anti-ferromagnetic phase transition around 100 K was observed during the magnetic susceptibility measurements The transition is attributed to the antiferromagnetic super-super exchange of Fe3+ spins which have the shortest distance of more than 6.267 (2) Å (a) Schematic diagram of the crystal structure of Ba3(FeS4)Br viewing down the a axis (b) Coordination family although they have not been noticed to be antiperovskites if the Ba atoms in these chalco-halides are replaced by Pb the carrier mobility can greatly be enhanced in the perovskite-like framework of Pb3X filled by the A-site tetrahedral groups which may be another promising photovoltaic material after MAPbX3 for the next generation solar cells (a) Powder X-ray diffraction patterns of the further the magnetic ions separate the weaker that the spin-spin coupling will be from the crystal structure the nearest Fe-Fe distance in Ba3(FeS4)Br is 6.267(2) Å which is too far for the direct spin-spin interaction between Fe atoms it will be of great interest to investigate the origin of the antiferromagnetic order at 84 K calculated (line) and difference (noisy line below observed and (d) Charge density plane of FeS45– tetrahedra along the b axis the spin-spin coupling between the two nearest Fe atoms is realized by the Fe-S···S-Fe antiferromagnetic super-super exchange along the b axis we have synthesized three new chalco-halides Ba3(FeS4)X (X = Cl all of which all belong to a new type of antiperovskites The band gap estimations revealed that these antiperovskites are good solar light absorbers antiferromagnetic transitions near 100 K were observed in Ba3(FeS4)X (X = Cl The corresponding magnetic structures were resolved by neutron diffractions as well as studied by the first-principles electronic structure calculations The calculations further showed that the antiferromagnetic ground states feature the opposite spin orientations in Fe···Fe zigzag chains along the b axis and the spin-spin coupling between a pair of the nearest Fe atoms is realized by the Fe−S···S−Fe antiferromagnetic super-super exchange along the b axis These antiperovskite chalco-halides may residential development in Chalco which borders the southeast of Mexico City The mayor suffered brain injuries and is in serious condition in hospital One line of investigation being pursued by the México state Attorney General’s Office (FGJEM) is that the Tláhuac Cartel was involved in the attack Originating from the Mexico City borough of the same name the criminal group is vying for control of Chalco along with La Unión de Tepito and La Familia Michoacana La Unión and the Tláhuac Cartel have diversified their criminal activities in the municipality in recent months All three groups are involved in drug dealing and have committed crimes in Chalco including violent car robberies and extortion The Tláhuac Cartel is believed to have beefed up its presence in Chalco during the administration of former Democratic Revolution Party mayor Ramón Montalvo Hernández The ex-mayor denied that his government made a pact with the criminal group to allow it to operate in the municipality although he acknowledged that he received threats that urged him to authorize its presence After several murders in Chalco following the 2017 death of former Tláhuac Cartel leader Felipe de Jesús “El Ojos” Pérez Luna in a confrontation with marines and police Montalvo asked the FGJEM to investigate him and his close associates in order to rule out any suspicion of their involvement Chalco’s share price [SHA:601600] closed up 1.7 percent at CNY4.61 (USD0.68). Earlier in the day it had hit CNY4.78.  Yunnan Aluminum [SHE:000807] climbed 2.7 percent to finish the day at CNY9.84 (USD1.45). Earlier in the day it surged 6.2 percent to CNY10.18. Both stocks have more than halved in value since September last year. Chalco is boosting its holdings of Yunnan Aluminum to 29.1 percent from 10.1 percent to become the biggest stakeholder, the Beijing-based firm said yesterday. The pricing of the deal is CNY10.11 (USD1.50) per share, a 3 percent premium on today’s latest share price. The acquisition will allow integrated and better management in the aluminum oxide and electrolytic aluminum sectors, Chalco said. The field has come under pressure in recent months with the price of aluminum trades on the London Metal Exchange sliding 40 percent since March. After the take-over, the pair will merge their financial statements, giving the new entity a market capitalization of over CNY110 billion (USD16.3 billion). Kunming, southwestern Yunnan province-based Yunnan Aluminum’s advantages in clean energies will also bolster the company’s green aluminum capacity, Chalco added. Parent firm Aluminum Corporation of China Group, also known as Chinalco, has long been planning such a merger, saying in 2019 that it will resolve internal competition within five years.  View location on google maps You'll now receive updates based on what you follow Personalize your stream and start following your favorite authors If you have done all of this and still can't find the email State-run Chinese aluminium producer Chalco’s bauxite project in Guinea is “operating normally” after the overthrow of President Alpha Conde a Chalco spokesperson said in a text message on Monday formally known as Aluminum Corp of China Ltd from the Boffa mine in the West African country and website in this browser for the next time I comment Δdocument.getElementById( "ak_js_1" ).setAttribute( "value" said late Tuesday it would make a capital contribution of 352.85 million yuan ($49.75 million) to China Rare Earth Chalco’s stake in China Rare Earth would increase to 23.94% from 14.62% through the capital contribution the company said in a filing to the Hong Kong stock exchange Chalco boosted the production of gallium a minor metal used in semiconductors by the electronics and telecom industries The company produces gallium as a byproduct of alumina “The transaction is conducive to the company’s revitalisation of assets irrelevant to the principal businesses and increase of investment returns,” Chalco said (By Tom Daly; Editing by Sherry Jacob-Phillips) China’s largest aluminum producer is in trouble for improperly handling hazardous waste at one of its plants In the company’s latest run-in with authorities and five of its employees have been reprimanded or dismissed China has struggled to control pollution in the air and soil — an unfortunate byproduct of the country’s rapid economic growth it has managed to beef up its regulatory framework by expanding the number of items considered hazardous doling out steep fines for breaches of regulations and making pollution-related crimes subject to imprisonment has had its own struggles in complying with the laws and is now caught up in the tightening net of regulation The chemical reaction of deriving aluminum from alumina produces cathode carbon blocks and other potentially harmful byproducts all of which were added to the national hazardous waste list and categorized as “toxic” materials in August 2016 According to a Tuesday report by Party newspaper People’s Daily admitted the company had not managed its hazardous waste well prior to August 2016 but said that it had been taking measures to comply since then The latest fines reportedly apply to material that predates the August 2016 classification Sixth Tone’s repeated calls to Chalco’s Lanzhou office and the media department of Chalco’s national headquarters in Beijing went unanswered on Thursday Chalco’s investor relations department told Sixth Tone it was not responsible for commenting on the matter Chalco’s poor performance was brought to light by the activities of Airman a Beijing-based environmental NGO dedicated to improving air quality In September, Airman said in a statement on social media app WeChat that while conducting field research in Gansu, it had discovered that the Chalco factory in Lanzhou was not properly disposing of its hazardous industrial waste, which included thousands of cathode carbon blocks.
