AUSTIN — Childress' Taylor Wiseman completed a golden double in authoritative fashion
following up her dominating win in the Class 3A discus with an equally dominating gold in the shot put
That added up to two top-of-the-podium finishes for the Oregon signee at the Texas UIL State Track and Field Championships on Thursday at Michael A
Wiseman was the heavy favorite coming in and she left no doubt in never trailing over 12 throws and two hours of competition
though her first-attempt 44-10 would have won by more than two feet
Every throw in Wiseman's six-throw series would have beaten runner-up Rayaa Brown of Hooks (42-4 for silver)
Wiseman's second-best throw was 46-8¼ and her sixth best

AUSTIN – Taylor Wiseman wasn’t going to be stopped throwing for the final time in a Childress Lady Bobcat uniform
Driven from a disappointing ending to her junior season
Wiseman made this senior year a road to redemption by accomplishing her mission of a double gold medal champion at the UIL Class 3A state track and field meet Thursday at Mike A
who is just getting started as a University of Oregon signee
was the story of the Texas Panhandle during the field event portion of the meet winning two golds with a dominating performance in the discus and a record-setting effort in the shot-put
“I’m very happy with how I competed here at state,” Wiseman said
“I’m normally never satisfied instead of enjoying the moment
but I feel great after what I accomplished.”
This was Wiseman’s third trip to Mike A
She took a silver in the shot put as a sophomore but last year after being ranked as one of the state’s top throwers
Wiseman had a rough day at regionals only getting out in the discus and didn’t medal at the state meet
Not medaling a year ago stuck with Wiseman so she made this track season one for the ages
“Last year was extremely hard,” Wiseman said
“I was able to go to nationals and rebound but I wanted to prove myself and show what kind of athlete I am.”
Wiseman set the tone right out of the gate Thursday morning in the discus tossing out a 154-1 and a 156-10 to set the tone
Her best throw came on her fourth attempt at 159-4
out of all six throws not one came under 154-feet
After tossing out three big throws over 43-feet
Wiseman uncorked a 47-2 to set the new Class 3A state record as her name will now sit in all the record books
“I knew I had to do good today” Wiseman said
“It was the last time I was going to throw at a high school event
I wanted to represent my school and myself well and I feel I was able to do that.”
Childress throwing coach Kolby Pool has been with Wiseman all four years of high school
Watching the dedication pay off and seeing a new state as well as a school-record fall was the best gift for him
“Taylor is an incredible teammate and everyone else biggest cheerleader,” Pool said
“She has a drive I’ve never seen and she’s a great example for the school
It was special to see how she responded from last season and phone to watch
It all came together and I’m so proud.” To respond to have the season like she has is special and fun to watch
It all came together here at state.”
Winning these two medals is just an end of a chapter for Wiseman
As she preps to throw at a premiere program like Oregon she’ll now focus on a busy summer
“Winning these gold medals set the tone for me,” Wiseman said
“I’m going to the Outdoor Nationals in the U20 in June
and I have a shot at the Pan American Games
I feel having my best day at the state meet is the momentum I needed going into those events.”

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to McAlister-Smith Funeral Home -- Goose Creek
Saturday’s race was full of action and carnage that saw many cars torn up as well as fuel strategy come into play late in the race.
Nick Sanchez won the first stage while Dean Thompson earned the win in the second stage. The race featured 15 cautions and 16 lead changes and was also red flagged twice in the final 10 laps due to accidents.
Richard Childress Racing drive Jesse Love was then able to get past JR Motorsports driver Sammy Smith on the final restart in overtime, going on to capture the checkered flag and securing his second victory of the season.
Of course, Smith also won the season-opening race at Daytona.
While the action calmed down after the race, the twists to it were not over as NASCAR made a massive announcement hours after the finish regarding Love and Richard Childress Racing.
NASCAR announced that Smith’s No. 2 Chevrolet has been disqualified following post-race inspection for issues in the rear suspension.
With Smith’s disqualification, the new winner of Saturday’s race at Rockingham is Smith and his No. 8 crew from JR Motorsports.
This is massive news for both sides as Love now gets credited with a last-place finish at Rockingham and will lose valuable regular season and playoff points due to the ruling.
For Smith, this marks his first victory of the season and also the third in his Xfinity Series career.
While Love was disqualified, RCR will have the opportunity to appeal NASCAR’s decision and if they win their appeal, they will get the win and their points back while Smith will be credited with a second-place finish.
It is important be careful when handing out draft day grades
but at first glance the Dallas Cowboys did really nice work
Their process as far taking the highest player on their board was fantastic. They made a habit out of getting great value, which was not always the case in recent drafts. The first three picks in particular - Alabama guard Tyler Booker, Boston College EDGE Donovan Ezeiruaku and East Carolina cornerback Shavon Revel -- has the potential to be a special grouping
Despite the seemingly strong haul, the Cowboys now must move quickly to scour the undrafted free agent market. Finding gems in the UDFA pool has become the norm in Dallas and kickstarted the process by adding Kentucky defensive back Zion Childress, per ESPN's Jeremy Fowler
you're hot and the Dallas front office is humming right now
Childress was a two-time captain for Kentucky despite transferring over from Texas State
The Cowboys targeted leadership in the draft and that has spilled over into undrafted free agency
Childress revealed in a recent interview with The Draft Network that Dallas was one of his favorite interviews at the Hula Bowl

Those teams were very detailed and thorough with me
A safety on most draft boards, Childress moonlighted as a nickel corner with the Wildcats. He patrols the secondary with an ideal playing speed and decisiveness. He played all five secondary positions at Texas State as a true freshman, per Justin Melo of The Draft Network and Titan Sized
If Childress can hold his own in the tackling department throughout the offseason program
his name should be in the mix to make a 53-man roster that has a depleted cornerback room and aging starting safeties

and seemed to be well on her way to a similar performance as a junior
Wiseman had an off day at the Region I-3A championships and failed to reach the state track meet in shot put
"I was set to win state in both shot put and discus
and I didn't get out of regionals in shot put
I had two really good throws that both got scratched
because one was a sector foul and one was a foot foul
None of my other throws were really very good
I was the runner-up national champion in discus and I was the youngest U20 finalist to make the world standard
where the really big meets are going to happen."

"I've set the tone for my summer competitions," Wiseman said
I think I stand a pretty good chance of going to the Pan-American games
It's just setting the tone for the rest of my summer."
The Pan-American Games are a track and field event similar to the Olympics that features athletes from the American continents
and with a solid base heading into her time with the Ducks

taking an insurmountable lead on her first throw and eventually claiming gold with a best mark of 159-feet
Her first-round throw of 154-1 would have won by more than 10 feet (Friona's Kitzy Welch eventually took second in 142-6) but Wiseman got the winning mark with her fourth toss
All six throws in her series were over 150 feet and were by far the six best throws of the competition
The Wiseman-Welch 1-2 finish was what the form chart predicted coming in

Running on motivation fueled by a road to redemption from a disappointing ending last year
Childress standout Taylor Wiseman is making her final high school season count before she heads off to throw at the high-profile University of Oregon next spring
Wiseman was the MVP when it came to Texas Panhandle athletes competing at the UIL Region I-3A track and field meet on the campus of Abilene Christian University on Friday and Saturday
After winning UIL Class 3A state championships as a sophomore in the shot put and discus as a sophomore
Wiseman fell short as a junior during the regional meet last year failing to qualify in the shot put and barely got to state in the discus where she did get a silver medal
Wiseman is throwing with a purpose this senior season and it showed Friday as she launched a 43-7 3/4 to win gold in the shot put and then left her mark on history tossing a 155-9 that set the new regional record to claim gold medal in the discus
“It was a relieving feeling,” Wiseman said of her Friday performance
and I feel I failed last year when I didn’t make it to state in the shot put and I didn’t win state in the discus
I feel really good right now and I’m ready to go do something special at state before I move on to college
It was also meant a lot to set that regional record
It’s cool to see that in the future it’s my name people are chasing to break a record.”
the Amarillo-area saw only more gold medal during the Region I-3A meet on both days
That honor belonged to Canadian’s Konnar McClendon
The outstanding distance runner was able to pull away from the field to win the gold medal in the 3200-meter race punching her ticket to state with a time of 11:17.46
adding a silver medal during Saturday’s 1600-meter run with a 5:12
McClendon is no stranger to the state track meet making her fourth straight trip to Austin
McClendon placed fifth in the 3200-meter race at the Class 3A state meet a year ago
Joining McClendon at state is teammate Arionna Black and Cazlee Waite
Black took silver in the 800-meter run with a 2:16.95 and Waite cleared 5-4 to get a silver in the high jump
Friona’s Kitzy Welch placed second in the discus to qualify thanks to a 138-2
Dalhart’s Reese Jenkins brought home silver in the pole vault clearing 11-9
The Holliday Lady Eagles were the Region I-3A team champions with 94 points
The boys side didn’t see a gold medal
Canadian’s Camden Cook had a solid 400-meter race clocking a 48.65 to get on the silver medal stand and get a trip to Austin
Joining Cook is Dalhart’s Eli Garcia who went 14-9 for a silver in the pole vault and Colton Teichelman of Childress collected a silver medal in the discus event with a 149-3
Bushland’s Slade Perry had a very solid day leaving with three bronze medals
Perry was on the sprint relay team that placed third (42.54)
he then earned a bronze in the 100-meter dash at 11 seconds and ran a 22.08 in the 200-meter for another bronze
Perry did put himself in position for a wild card spot at the state meet
Wall won the Region I-3A team championship with 154 points
The top two competitors from each event qualified for the UIL Class 3A state track and field meet set for May 1-3 at Mike A

Childress Price wants her students to see science in everything
Take Five is a series that highlights members of the CPS community who are going above and beyond for our students. All throughout the 2024–25 school year, we will be spotlighting our amazing CPS teachers! If you know a teacher who is making a difference, nominate them to be featured here
a National Board Certified Teacher and Instructional Lead Coach for STEM courses at South Shore International College Prep (SSICP)
SSICP is an International Baccalaureate (IB) school
Childress Price teaches 12th-grade Diploma Programme (DP) biology
She is also in the process of earning her doctorate in Math and Science Education in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Illinois Chicago
Although she has now been an educator for 18 years
She actually started as a youth worker and community organizer
and this work still informs her teaching in many ways
and democracies only really work when everyone has a role,” said Ms
“So that’s how I approach teaching: every student should feel like they have knowledge to contribute to our classroom ecosystem.”
In honor of her remarkable career, Ms. Childress Price was recently named as a finalist for the prestigious Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Teaching
I always say that I would leave the classroom if I were to ever lose my passion and commitment to growing every day
and I really love this work and care about my students
These four years are critical; high school is the bridge to your adult life
and it’s rewarding to be a part of a student’s trajectory
And then I get to see all that they go on to accomplish after school
I think you can see my true love of learning reflected in my classroom
I'm part of a collective of educators who work with an approach called “Youth Participatory Science,” which was actually coined by two former CPS science teachers
Daniel Morales-Doyle and Alejandra Frausto
I teach students science in a way that centers their experiences as Chicagoans and helps them apply science in their daily lives
what does it mean when your younger sister goes to the doctor and she has elevated lead levels in her blood
What does it mean when a metal shredding company is trying to relocate to your side of the city
every student feels like they can engage in science and bring their own life experience to the table
Our school just matched staff to certain learner profiles
and I was selected as the “most knowledgeable.” As I said earlier
I also love to laugh and people say I have a good sense of humor
I’m very serious when it comes to student outcomes
and I’m very principled when it comes to making sure every student feels seen and valued
I hope my students leave my class with a love of science and a deep curiosity for the world around them
Research shows that most kids come to love science because of hands-on experiences like growing pinto beans and playing in dirt and dissecting worms
and then somehow that evolves into reading a lot of text and feeling disconnected from what they’re learning
I ultimately want to change the landscape of science education
I want my students to see themselves in the content
because that’s when they’re really engaged

other non-JGR cars attempted to join the escort
These drivers allegedly included Childress
a car that needed to move over for the escort

somebody within Joe Gibbs Racing didn’t leave a gap
I’m joining this escort whether you guys like it or not.’ And he forced his way in
Destroyed the side of the car.” — Denny Hamlin
Hamlin went on to detail the damage Childress’ alleged move did to the rental car
“The right side of the JGR car was destroyed
hung a left on him and just doored the shit out of our car
Fortunately, the car took the blunt of the hit, with Hamlin and his co-hosts reflecting on the incident in a playful manner. Of course, photo evidence was posted in an Instagram reel of the podcast on Hamlin’s account

Richard Childress Racing has officially lost its appeal of Jesse Love’s Rockingham disqualification
The National Motorsports Appeals Panel (NMPA) agreed with NASCAR's decision following last Saturday's race
Love thought he had won the first Xfinity race at Rockingham in 21 years by snatching the lead away in an overtime restart
He drove from third to first in his first win at a non-drafting track
but the celebrations did not last very long
The car failed post-race inspection a few hours later with JR Motorsports and driver Sammy Smith inheriting the race victory from Love
there was an issue with the rear suspension of Love’s No
stating: "All mating surfaces between the truck trailing arm and the U-bolt saddle must be in complete contact with each other."
the three-person appeals penalty said: “The panel finds that it is more likely than not that there was a violation of 14.14.2 Rear Suspension
The panel was unable to determine whether the violation was intentional or unintentional
The panel finds that the mating surfaces between the truck trailing arm and the U-bolt saddle were not in contact with each other.”
The unanimous decision was made by Langley Speedway owner Mr
RCR released the following statement after losing their Wednesday appeal: "RCR is disappointed in NASCAR's decision today to uphold the disqualification of the No
We will focus our efforts on moving forward and being competitive at Talladega this weekend."

“Richard Childress was not part of this escort
He was part of the vehicles that needed to move out of [the way]
I’m joining this escort whether you guys like it or not.’ And he forced his way in."
The Joe Gibbs Racing escort didn't feel like just letting Childress into their line of vehicles
‘No you can’t just join in,’ so he pulled up beside him," Hamlin detailed
Thus began a battle of epic proportions on a public road

Jesse Love crossed the start-finish line in first place at the end of the NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Rockingham Speedway, but it didn't last for long. On Saturday night, NASCAR announced that Love was disqualified after the No. 2 car had a rear suspension violation in post-race inspection
Sammy Smith was declared the winner of the Xfinity Series race at Rockingham; however
Love still has a chance at earning the victory
Richard Childress Racing revealed that it will appeal Love's disqualification at Rockingham
Since a race disqualification is expedited and the panel finalizes its ruling when making the decision
there won't be a second appeal if Richard Childress Racing wanted to pursue one
Love will have a definitive answer this week
Appeals are very hard to win in NASCAR, but it's not impossible. Chase Briscoe and Joe Gibbs Racing had its monstrous 100-point penalty overturned earlier in the year
Love still has hope for a win at Rockingham
but Richard Childress Racing needs to present a very convincing case
