That friend, a fellow firefighter, met up with Madeline's parents who picked the insulin up from the pharmacy. From the other side of that collapsed bridge, the friends used a drone to carry the insulin across along with a little comic relief in a stressful situation. The Black Knights are now riding the momentum of six consecutive postseason appearances, including just two years removed from a 10-win season and playoff victory in 2022. And after a 6-1 start a season ago, all directions pointed to a possible deep run before losing their final four games of the season. So as head coach Billy Kaylor and the Black Knights strap up for the new campaign, the focus will be on building that culture which has its sights set on reaching a championship caliber - starting in the offseason. Although the Black Knights lost 13 talented seniors from last year's group, Kaylor and company have a lot of confidence in filling those holes - working with a driven group of young players willing to do the work. "What's special about this group is the amount of youth we have. We have so many young guys, so we get a chance to really set and build a culture," added Kaylor. "Our message to them is kind of be the guy who stands in the gap. Be the guy standing in the gap and willing to do the extra thing and learn to do things a championship way. We build that culture and have them carry it on for years to come." As Chuckey-Doak prepares for its season opener against Unaka on Aug. 23, they are working on all the little things that a young team needs - all starting with effort and intensity needed to win football games.
