In October, 31-year-old Jermaine Frye went into cardiac arrest at his home. The El Paso County coroner recently released a final diagnosis on Frye's passing. The coroner's findings show Frye died after a sudden stop of blood flow to the heart. The death may be tied to an injury Frye had from performing mandatory physical training as a fireman. Frye was recovering at home from the injuries when he was found unresponsive in bed. The report states the exact cause is unclear but points to coronary artery spasm in the setting of recovering rhabdomyolysis. ---------------------------------------------------- The Cimarron Hills Fire Department and family and friends are mourning the loss of a young firefighter after his sudden death over the weekend. Jermaine Frye, 31, died Saturday afternoon after going into cardiac arrest at his home. The fire department says he had recently suffered an injury during training and had been hospitalized. He'd been released from the hospital the night before he died. Frye had worked as a paramedic-firefighter full-time for the fire department for nearly two years, and as a part-time firefighter and volunteer reserve firefighter before that. His family said he'd also worked for the Aurora and Falcon fire departments. "He absolutely adores his work family...he loved his jobs and everyone he ever worked with," the family wrote in a GoFundMe account set up to help with funeral costs. Frye was engaged to be married, and he and his fiancee were expecting a child. "He loved Megan more than anything and was super stoked to be a father and a daddy to a kiddo," the family said. The family said the GoFundMe account was being set up to help Frye's fiancee and unborn child, in addition to funeral costs. The fire department said it was "saddened" by the news of Frye's sudden passing. The fire chief says he considers this a line of duty death.
