Man who became distraught after viewing footage of the fatal shooting of his son crashed into officer the next day
The distraught father of an 18-year-old shot and killed by police in Cincinnati allegedly killed a police officer with his car less than 24 hours after the death of his son
The double killing has shocked the Ohio city amid ongoing concerns about US law enforcement’s involvement in lethal encounters with citizens
The incident began last Thursday with the shooting death of Ryan Hinton
who police said had appeared to point a gun at an officer as he fled from a stolen vehicle with three other people
Body camera footage released by police shows an officer shouting: “He’s got a gun
The blurry and unclear footage then shows Hinton emerging from between two dumpsters
When Hinton’s family viewed the footage at a meeting with police
was present at the meeting and they were understandably distraught as they watched the bodycam video,” a statement from the family’s lawyers said
“After the meeting with the police department
Ryan Hinton’s father left in his own vehicle and that was the last we heard from him until learning about the tragic incident involving a law enforcement officer who was working a traffic detail near the University of Cincinnati.”
That incident happened on Friday afternoon when a police officer – who has not yet been named publicly – was hit by a car as he directed traffic at an intersection
Police identified the driver of that vehicle as the teen’s 38-year-old father
He was later charged with aggravated murder
The slain police officer was not believed to have been involved with the killing of Ryan Hinton
“This is a horrific tragedy on both sides … This family lost their son, and this police officer lost his life,” Michael Wright, the Hinton family attorney, told the Cincinnati Enquirer
CINCINNATI — The family of 18-year-old Ryan Hinton
who was fatally shot by a Cincinnati police officer on Thursday
held a press conference on Monday to express their love for Ryan and to raise questions about his death
Several of Ryan's family members spoke during the press conference
many of whom urged the community to wait for further investigation before rushing to judgment
"I seen two scared people," said Ryan's grandfather
"I seen the officer scared and I seen my grandson scared
So it's an unfortunate incident that happened
I didn't see the police there trying to kill
What I seen was two persons made a mistake
My grandson made a mistake in being there and the officer
he was trying to get back to his family too
one of the attorneys with The Cochran Firm who is representing Ryan's family
said his office is working to conduct their own investigation into the shooting
we met with the police chief of Cincinnati and we viewed the body cam video of what happened with the shooting with Ryan," said Wright
"We stayed at the chief's office for about an hour and a half and what we saw was disturbing."
Wright pointed out that Cincinnati police only showed the body camera footage of one officer — the one who fired the shots that killed Ryan Hinton
He said his office has requested to see all body camera footage from that morning
and other public records that could help them analyze what happened
WCPO 9 has also requested that body camera footage
"We believe that this incident should be investigated," said Wright
"It's not as cut and dry as this officer should have pulled out his gun and shot Ryan
said she doesn't believe the shooting should have happened
"I can't even express how I feel right now about — I'm angry
because it shouldn't have ever happened," said Larkin
"I want to find out exactly what steps was taken and the protocol
And if everything comes out that it's not what it should have been
we need to do something about change and training and diversity and understanding us as a Black culture."
gentle giant" who always had time for his siblings and often spent time playing video games with them
She said he made it a point to play with each and every child in the family
teaching them different games and including them

we don't deserve to be killed just because we're running away from the police," said Larkin
said lawyers plan to look closely into the shooting to scrutinize whether Cincinnati Police Department's policies were appropriately followed
there's procedures and there are policies that require those who hold life and death in their hands to move in particular ways."
Rucker said they aren't trying to decide Ryan's innocence or guilt in the moments before the shooting — they're only looking at whether or not the officer who shot him properly followed procedure and protocol
"We are looking for the answer through our investigation of whether or not it was proper
whether or not the policies were followed appropriately and whether or not
by law and by facts that that tragic death was considered in the eyes of the law as justifiable," said Rucker
"I can promise you under no circumstance are the family members who are here will ever believe that it was justifiable."
Wright said there's plenty of healing that needs to happen all around
and he urged people to give the investigation time
He said they don't know what next steps will be
but he said it's possible it could be filing a lawsuit; Wright said they are working to get all the information they can before making any determinations

One day after Ryan was fatally shot, his father, Rodney Hinton Jr., allegedly crashed a vehicle into retired Hamilton County Sheriff's Deputy Larry Henderson while he was directing traffic during commencement at the University of Cincinnati
Ryan's family declined to speak about Henderson's death
other than to offer prayers and condolences to his family and loved ones
Cincinnati police showed family members of Ryan Hinton the CPD body camera footage on the morning of Friday
Cincinnati police held a press conference to release the footage to the public
That body camera footage showed a Cincinnati officer chasing the 18-year-old before firing multiple shots
Theetge said Ryan was hit by two bullets — one that went through his arm and into his side
and another that went through his chest and out his back
allegedly drove his vehicle into Henderson at the corner of Martin Luther King Jr
where Henderson was working a traffic detail
Rodney Hinton Jr. appeared in court Saturday morning
with dozens of deputies packing the room to show support for their former colleague
Hinton is being held in Clermont County Jail without bail until his next hearing on Tuesday
has been charged with aggravated murder for the death of Henderson

according to Cincinnati police and court records
The victim is in critical condition and the suspect
Police said Sunday the victim was stabbed in his neck at Seventh and Vine streets shortly after 7 p.m
At least 10 witnesses told police Savigne stabbed the victim “until he went limp
then walked away,” according to court records released Monday
Officers arrested him a short time later “after a brief scuffle and Tasing,” police wrote in an affidavit
Police have yet to say what led up to the stabbing
Savigne’s court paperwork indicates he is homeless

CINCINNATI (WKRC) - A man is charged with stabbing another man multiple times in downtown Cincinnati Saturday
Police say Domingo Savigne stabbed the victim at Vine and 7th
At least 10 people witnessed the stabbing including a CPD detective
They then took him into custody after a scuffle
Officers also had to use a Taser to get him under arrest
Savigne does not have a court date scheduled
It was the first homer as a Royal for both players. It was Maile's first game for Kansas City
The Covington Catholic High School grad was recalled May 2 from Triple-A Omaha
The Royals entered Sunday with an MLB-low 18 home runs through their first 34 games
Kansas City acquired India from Cincinnati last November with Joey Wiemer for pitcher Brady Singer
The Reds are scheduled to visit the Royals in Kansas City for a three-game series Monday
The first Monday of every month during the season we’re going to check in on how the Cincinnati Reds Top 25 prospects are performing
This group hasn’t exactly been the healthiest
Four of the ten pitchers didn’t pitch in April
only pitched in two games before landing on the injured list
Connor Phillips did start a rehab assignment this weekend with Dayton
and Rhett Lowder is expected to start his rehab assignment in Arizona on Tuesday
Starting at the top of the list is Chase Burns
He’s put up outstanding numbers to begin his career
He made three starts in Dayton before being promoted to Double-A
With Chattanooga he’s now made two starts
He’s got a 2.61 ERA in 20.2 innings with six walks and 33 strikeouts
He’s performed as one would expect the top pitcher in the draft to perform as given his pitch count limit he’s been working with to this point in the year
Chase Petty made his big league debut last week and things didn’t go well for him in that game
But the 23-year-old has pitched well in Triple-A
even when accounting for a tough first outing of the year
Among the pitchers who hasn’t been injured this season
Zach Maxwell’s the guy having the worst start to the year
He was doing quite well in the first month of the season and had a 2.53 ERA through his first 11 games
But over his last three outings things have gone south in a hurry
In those three outings he’s thrown 1.2 innings and given up four hits
Adam Serwinowski is out to a strong start in Dayton
The left-handed starter has a 2.18 ERA through five starts
Like most other pitchers in the organization’s farm system
he’s been working on a limited pitch count so far
but he’s topped 80 pitches in each of his last two outings after throwing under 70 in the first three outings
Luis Mey began his season in Triple-A and pitched in 10 games for the Bats between late March and the end of April
Cincinnati then called him up to the big leagues in May and he’s now pitched in two games there
At both stops he’s posted a 4.50 ERA
He’s had one outing so far where his control simply wasn’t there and that game accounts for four of his seven walks on the season
There are some injuries among the position players
Cam Collier has not yet played this season as he recovers from thumb surgery after suffering an injury in spring training
hasn’t played yet because he’s going to start the year with the ACL Reds and their season begins this afternoon
But he’s not going to be on the field right away as he deals with an injury
though he’s not expected to miss much time and should return soon
Starting at the top of this list we’ve got Alfredo Duno
The 19-year-old catcher is hitting just .218
but he’s showing a good amount of power before we even account for how pitcher friendly the Florida State League is
and he’s got good walk and strikeout rates
The ball just isn’t finding the green just yet but it likely will if he continues to make contact at the rate he has
In Chattanooga there’s a group of five hitters in the top 25 and the results are good for most of them
Both Edwin Arroyo and Hector Rodriguez are hitting .351
and Rodriguez is also showing off a little pop to go along with his average
Sal Stewart has been solid across the board
Things have not gone well for Jay Allen II
who is having the worst start among the top 25 hitters
He’s played just about every day and only has one extra-base hit on the season and is hitting just .165
The three prospects in Dayton among the top 25 group are struggling
Carlos Jorge is hitting just .197 and hasn’t shown much power at all
He is walking more than ever and he’s making contact at a solid rate so far
but the numbers just aren’t following
Ricky Cabrera was hitting just .187 before suffering an injury this weekend
He has not yet been placed on the injured list
but after being carted off of the field it seems likely to happen soon
Yerlin Confidan was hitting well to begin the season but he has slumped of late and the strikeouts have piled up as his hitting numbers have declined
Sammy Stafura got out to a bit of a slow start in Daytona
but he’s picked things up of late and now he’s got strong numbers across the board outside of his strikeout rate – which is up from where it was last season at the same level
Rece Hinds is the only top 25 prospect among the position players in Triple-A
His strikeout rate is still higher than you’d like
but it’s down from where it was last season and at a rate where a hitter has a chance to be successful at
Right now he’s hitting for average and power
and he’s walking enough to keep pitchers honest
Blake Dunn is the lone prospect among the position players in the big leagues right now
He’s struggled to find hits and make contact at this point
though as he’s posted a .353 on-base percentage
With the Arizona Complex League season starting later today
we’ve got to start paying attention to what Sheng-En Lin is going to be doing
This season he’s expected to both pitch and serve as a designated hitter when he’s not on the mound
2025 will be the first year he’s going to pitch as a professional after signing with the Reds in the late summer of 2023
Doug Gray is the owner and operator of this website and has been running it since 2006 in one variation or another
Petty has a history of rough starts and then battling to improve
Duno’s average is perplexing given his peripherals and how hard he hits the ball
Sal Stewart isn’t hitting with too much HR pop
but he is piling up doubles quickly and is still just 21
I think he’s a 20+ HR guy annually sooner rather than later
One other guy (not on the list) on the pitching side who has now shown that he has battled past shoulder surgery is Ty Floyd
It’s exciting to see he is still a good prospect
who i was hoping could get a good start this year coming off injury
Big fastballs from the left side being a good thing
Gotta like the plate discipline of the top hitters
thank goodness the top prospects are in the upper minors and can contribute if necessary
The big club will be in the playoff hunt all season and you don’t want the season derailed by not having capable replacements
I look at the Cubs and they’re already signing retreads right and left
It’s great to see him pitch so well after missing all of last year with his shoulder
That’s a tough way to begin a professional baseball career
He’s looking pretty darn good in Daytona
and I’m usually one to endorse that type of move
That being said I’m currently of the thinking that I would keep him in Daytona all season
It seems as if the Reds are wanting to limit his innings in a similar way to Petty
That’s going to prevent him from being able to be a MLB starter until 2028
so there is no need to rush him along even if his talent would seem to warrant it
in retrospect this should have gone on the recap of last night’s game
Serwinski who had his inning limited last year is doing awesome this season as well
I’m still curious to see how he does as he’s hitting 5 IP on a more consistent basis this year
I also got my money on a Skeenes like rise from Burns
I was really impressed watching Floyd yesterday
The pitch was just crackling; nice movement
i can see what the excitement was all about
don’t want to see Floyd pushed too quickly
though i can see him moving up to Dayton once the weather gets more stable
they started Lyon Richardson in FL then moved him up after a few warmup appearances
I don’t expect Floyd to follow exactly
but Dayton might not be out of the question
Serwinowski was still a little rough on the edges in FL (though his growth this year is also impressive)
I want to see him safely add inning on to that repaired shoulder
It seems as if his prospect value has been restored
It feels weird as a Reds fan to be in a position where we don’t need to rush pitchers
The rotational depth is good this year and should be as good if not better next year
A trade or two could change this current zen moment I’m having with the Reds rotational depth
That with Spiers out for a bit (or possibly traded at some point to a team desperate for pitching
we’re ok with Acuna breathing down his neck as a back end starter/long reliever
I am very certain we’ll draft another college arm mud range this summer
There are some comments on Floyd and Acuna on yesterday’s game thread
Tyler Naquin apparently no longer playing – the Rodriguez/Acuna acquisition moving away from lottery-pick into what-if territory
Acuna must have read my comment a few days back saying he was most likely a bullpen piece due to his lower velocity when starting
If he really was sitting 94-96 yesterday over five innings
Acuna could be on a similar path as Aguiar (minus the TJ of course)
Cincinnati's hottest race is the one for Cincinnati mayor
If you haven't paid attention to the three candidates running for mayor
Two Republicans, Cory Bowman and Brian Frank, are challenging incumbent Democratic Mayor Aftab Pureval
It's the first time any Republican has run for the highest elected office in the heavily Democratic city since 2009 when Brad Wenstrup ran and lost
Wenstrup four years later won a seat to Congress
Vice President has drawn international attention to the raceBowman, 36, is the vice president's half-brother. As a result
media from around the world have attended campaign events and debates
including a reporter from a German publication at an April event Bowman held at Price Hill Chili in West Price Hill
When asked at that event by a resident whether his relationship with Vance would help the city
he talked about the importance of being the first Republican running for mayor in 16 years and having a better connection with the state and federal government
"We've seen on council that there is a monopoly on one side," Bowman said
"Now one of the things that you have to do is
you have to be willing to cross the aisle and work with people
And I think that's been the most damaging thing about our local government
You can't cross the aisle when there's no aisle to cross."
Road to the mayor's office runs through Colerain?Pictures of Brian Frank
circulated online of him waving with his campaign signs in front of the Ronald Reagan Highway exit in Colerain Township
Frank explained in a Facebook post that he was heading to a meeting near there and decided to stop
"I love Colerain Township and all the people on the Best Side," Frank wrote in the Facebook post
"I was waving there before I headed to my Crossroads Small Group meeting ..
five minutes from there and besides lots of Cincinnati voters commute to work on the Ronald Reagan Highway and Ronald Reagan is still my favorite President of These United States!"
So when Pureval was given the opportunity in a debate sponsored by the Cincinnati NAACP to ask Frank a question
he wanted to know about his opponent's fashion sense
where did you get that ridiculous hat?" Pureval asked Frank as laughter rippled through the audience
Frank remained quiet and stared straight ahead
Then the moderator asked Frank whether he wanted to respond
"I'm going to remain the adult in the room," Frank said
"I'm not going to debase myself by responding to that sort of question."
Frank later told the story behind the hat to The Enquirer's "That's So Cincinnati" podcast. It's a tribute to his late sister, Michele Cellino
Pureval served as Hamilton County Clerk of Courts
He sprang onto the political scene suddenly in 2016
unseating incumbent Republican Tracey Winkler for clerk of courts
After defeating a member of a prominent Republican political family
he rode that momentum to a congressional run in 2018 where he lost to the incumbent Republican Rep
Since becoming mayor, he's garnered some national attention in Politico and the Los Angeles Times. He spoke at the 2024 Democratic National Convention
While rumors have flown around the city from time to time that Pureval is running for another office
Bowman, 36, is a resident of the College Hill neighborhood of Cincinnati
pastor of The River Church in the West End and is a registered Republican
Frank, 66, of Mount Adams, is a Navy veteran who worked at Procter & Gamble for 23 years in procurement
He also worked for a series of pharmaceutical companies
He's run a campaign with a slogan to "Make Cincinnati Great Again." He's a Republican and an admirer of President Donald Trump
and disagrees with the GOP on LGBTQ issues
"As an openly gay man and supporter of the LGBTQ+ Community
I support protecting and enforcing all LGBTQ rights in Cincinnati and any current funding that the City has committed to this community," Frank said in his survey to The Enquirer

Nearly all of the unionized employees at two federal facilities dedicated to workplace safety research in Cincinnati are on immediate administrative leave and will be terminated
The cuts represent a significant portion of the facilities' workforce
"It's about 93 percent of NIOSH [nationally] and about 97 percent of the Cincinnati bargaining unit," she said
"So it's effectively shutting down the agency."
NIOSH has two offices in Cincinnati — Pleasant Ridge's Alice Hamilton Laboratory for Occupational Safety and Health
Taft Occupational Safety and Health Laboratory
About 400 employees in total are roughly equally distributed between the two
NIOSH is responsible for research and recommendations aimed at preventing workplace illness and injury
Union steward Hannah Echt told WVXU in April the Cincinnati offices have a variety of workers
"We evaluate if hazards exist in a workplace and recommend ways to reduce hazards," she said
administrative staff who support our research and our projects."
Other workers at NIOSH in management positions will be terminated June 2
They were put on administrative leave April 1
That's when some unionized employees were first notified their jobs were in jeopardy
leading to protests at Cincinnati's NIOSH facilities
The Trump administration has said widespread job cuts are necessary in the federal workforce to save taxpayer funds and to make the federal government more efficient. U.S. Environmental Protection Agency offices in Cincinnati have already seen some of those cuts.
The cuts to NIOSH are part of larger restructuring under Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F
who has indicated the department will cut roughly 20,000 of its 82,000 employees and consolidate its 28 departments to 15
Leaders with HHS have pledged that the worker safety initiatives NIOSH carries out will continue under a new department called the Administration for a Healthy America even after the workforce reductions
But Niemeier-Walsh and other union leaders dispute this
"If you go to the NIOSH website and you look at some of our services
A visit to NIOSH's pages for its National Firefighter Registry for Cancer and Health Hazards Evaluations services shows banners advising the programs aren't active

employees and unions identify and mitigate workplace health hazards
Labor leaders and their supporters will hold a demonstration outside the Pleasant Ridge NIOSH facility at 5 p.m

First responders were called to the 100 block of West Seymour Avenue in Carthage about 6:30 p.m
A police news release says the preliminary investigation determined a 2018 Dodge Journey SUV westbound on Seymour Avenue “drove off the right side” of the road and “collided with a 45-year-old (man) riding a bicycle on the sidewalk.”
was seriously hurt and taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center
The 65-year-old driver of the SUV was not hurt
“Excessive speed does not appear to be a factor in the crash. Impairment is being investigated as a factor,” the release states
Any witnesses to this crash are asked to contact the Cincinnati Police Department’s Traffic Unit at 513-352-2514
It listed the best and worst comeback teams in MLB this season
with the Dodgers sitting atop the pack entering Sunday with a 13-10 record in games in which they trailed
The White Sox (2-24) and Rockies (3-27) were the worst
no one had more comeback wins in the 2024 regular season than the Chiefs
Kansas City became the first team in NFL history to come from behind to win 11 times in a season
1983 Cowboys and 1980 Falcons each had 10 come-from-behind victories
The Bengals’ record is seven comeback wins
which they initially set in 1986 and recently matched in 2021
they were 4-8 in games in which they trailed
If we up the parameter to trailing by at least seven points
the NFL record for coming back from that sizable deficit is eight by the 1983 Cowboys and 1998 49ers
The Cincinnati record for wins after trailing by 7+ points is four
It’s something they’ve done 11 times – 1972
rallying from exactly seven points down against the Raiders
A big reason the Chiefs set the NFL record for comeback wins in 2024 is because of Patrick Mahomes
Some people will argue that quarterback wins are not a relevant stat
the correlation between quarterback and victory is devalued
But when a team rallies for a comeback win
the quarterback’s role is much more important and almost always a valid measurable
let’s look at the quarterbacks with the most comeback wins in NFL history
Mahomes was 11-1 in 2024 in games he started and trailed at some point
The career leader is Tom Brady with 118 wins
The Bengals career leader is Ken Anderson with 29
Anderson again is the Bengals record holder with 26
which means 26 of his 29 comeback wins were by at least seven points
His .625 winning percentage is by far the best in NFL history among quarterbacks who had at least 32 starts in which they fell behind by 7+ points
Only one other quarterback in history even has a .500 record in such games (minimum 32 such games started):
That Mahomes is so far ahead of every other Hall of Fame quarterback is remarkable
But what about quarterbacks in the Joe Burrow era (2020-present)
Mahomes obviously is the leader in overall comeback wins
while Burrow sits just outside the Top 10 in a tie for 13th with 21 comeback wins
In teams of winning percentage among players who have trailed in at least 17 games they have started since 2020
Rodgers 18 and Hurts and Allen each have 16
And the best winning percentages when trailing by 7+ points belong to Mahomes .649
Which quarterbacks are least likely to rally a team from a 7-point deficit
There are 38 quarterbacks who have started at least 17 games in which their team trailed by 7+ points
Three of the bottom 10 winning percentages belong to quarterbacks who are current starters
Burrow’s win percentage of .316 (12-26) is 13th best
None of those teams with double-digit comeback wins went on to win the Super Bowl
But there was a surprise team tied with the Eagles
rallied from behind six times as well on their way to a 10-7 season
which was tied for the fewest such wins in the league
Brady’s .608 winning percentage only ranks sixth among quarterbacks with at least 50 starts
Mahomes is first with a .685 winning percentage (50-23)
Peyton Manning.611 (88-56) and Joe Montana .609 (56-36)

CINCINNATI — The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office has announced visitation and funeral arrangements for Larry Henderson
the retired deputy who was hit and killed while working a traffic detail during the University of Cincinnati's spring commencement last week
There will be two set times for public visitation:
A public service will then take place from 11 a.m
at Cintas Center.Directly after the service on Friday
the sheriff's office said a procession will travel to Spring Grove Cemetery Rose Garden for a graveside ceremony and burial
The man accused of intentionally running his car into the deputy is 38-year-old Rodney Hinton Jr. He was identified as the father of an 18-year-old shot and killed by a Cincinnati police officer one day prior.

Henderson retired from the sheriff's office in December after 33 years of service
He also spent nearly 20 years as part of the Bearcat team
volunteering his time working security during UC football games
"In Deputy Henderson’s early tenure as a Sheriff’s Deputy
I recognized his talent for teaching and presentation," Sheriff Charmaine McGuffey shared a statement Sunday in honor of Henderson
"Larry began his journey as a Sheriff’s Office trainer early in his career," she said
"He developed an expertise and became an excellent trainer
he trained divisions of the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office that included hundreds of deputy sheriffs
His ability to relate to and touch officers’ lives was extraordinary
We will continue to honor Larry’s life of service."
Ryan Hinton’s family distanced themselves from the actions of his father
who is accused of killing a sheriff’s deputy the day after his son was shot
and instead said they are seeking answers about the fatal police shooting
Surrounded by Hinton’s relatives, the family’s attorney, Michael Wright, called the body camera footage of the May 1 shooting “disturbing” and said it is not clear whether the officer who shot Hinton was in imminent danger
"This is not as cut and dry as this officer should have pulled out his gun and shot at Ryan," Wright said during the May 5 press conference

was shot twice by Cincinnati police during a stolen car investigation and died shortly after
Cincinnati Police Chief Teresa Theetge has described the shooting as “six quick seconds” and said the officer who fired at Hinton believed the man pointed the gun at him during the quick encounter
The department has not released the name of the officer who shot Hinton, citing Marsy's Law, legislation meant to protect victims of crimes
The next day, May 2, police say Hinton’s father, Rodney Hinton Jr., killed Hamilton County Sheriff’s Deputy Larry Henderson by striking him with a car
Wright called the episode a tragedy and offered his condolences to the deputy but made clear he is not representing Hinton’s father, who is charged with murder
“We’re trying to get the family some answers,” Wright said
Officials say parallel investigations into the shooting are underway by the Cincinnati Police Department and the Citizen Complaint Authority
Wright asked people to "relax" and not rush to judgment
called on the community to forgive the Cincinnati police officer who shot Ryan
“I saw the officer scared and I saw my grandson scared,” Hinton said of the body camera footage
“What I saw was two people who made a mistake.”
Four days after Ryan’s death, his family remembered the man as a “jokester” and a loving person. He was a student at Dohn Community High School before the charter school’s sudden closure in March
gentle giant that played with everybody all the time," Hinton's grandmother
Larkin also called for more diversity training in police departments
"We as Black people don't deserve to be killed just because we're running away from the police," she said
Funeral arrangements for Ryan have not yet been made

The Cincinnati Bengals endured a roller coaster 2024 NFL season
It saw them start the year off 1-4 but storm back with a second-half playoff push
They entered December 4–8, but the Bengals rallied to win their last five games and kept their playoff hopes alive late in the season
it was their second consecutive 9-8 finish in which they missed the playoffs
A significant part of the problem was Cincinnati's defense
The defense allowed 25.5 points per game which was 25th in the league
The team reacted by firing longtime defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo
The Bengals have since hired Al Golden in hopes he can improve the team's defensive unit
Trey Hendrickson's future is uncertain as he seeks an extension of his own, but Cincinnati focused on strengthening the defense in the draft by selecting Shemar Stewart in the first round
three of their first four draft picks were on the defensive side of the ball
Another year removed from their 2022 Super Bowl appearance has them flying under the radar in the AFC
Will that be enough to get the Bengals back to the postseason

AP correspondent Julie Walker reports Vice President JD Vance’s half-brother is running for Cincinnati mayor
“What I want to run as is I’m somebody that deeply loves Cincinnati,” Bowman said
and so I can kind of see certain things with the city that we can do better at.”
is viewed as a rising star within the Democratic Party

attorney who previously served as Hamilton County Clerk of Courts and ran for Congress
He won the 2021 mayor’s race in Ohio’s third largest city with nearly 66% of the vote
said he chose to run for mayor partly because it was the seat most immediately up for grabs and partly because it bothered him that Pureval was running unopposed
Another GOP candidate — procurement professional Brian Frank
66 — jumped into the race around that same time for the same reason
so the top two vote-getters on May 6 will face each other in November
“I think it’s fantastic that I’m not running unopposed,” Pureval said
saying he believes it’s important for Cincinnati voters to have different visions from which to choose
Bowman moved to Cincinnati around 2020 and did not vote in the last mayor’s race
Pureval made an issue of his opponent’s relatively short time as a city resident to suggest “he doesn’t necessarily have a track record or a deep commitment to the city
He said his family “always considered Cincinnati our home
He said his family bounced back and forth a lot between Ohio and Florida
Cory Bowman attended Miami University in Oxford
where he earned a degree in economics and business administration
then returned to Florida to study the ministry at River University in Tampa

But Cory Bowman says that Vance eventually remedied the situation
he asked to meet Donald Bowman and his younger brother and sister
Cory remembers fondly the future vice president coming to visit and the two of them playing basketball
strengthened through going to college in Ohio at around the same time and getting married and becoming parents in tandem
Both have three children — two boys and a girl
is not taking an active role in the campaign
The vice president’s office declined to comment on Bowman’s run
and Bowman has acknowledged that he does not have Vance’s endorsement — at least not yet
he’s not a political counselor to me,” Bowman said
“He is not somebody that planted me here in this city.”
Bowman opposed Cincinnati’s sanctuary city status
promised to keep children safe and pledged to improve snow removal and fill potholes
said that she wasn’t thinking about local government right now because
Asked about supporting a relative of Vance’s
“I just think he’s helping with the chaos and I don’t want chaos locally,” she said
and I feel like if he’s here it’s going to hit home
playThomas Müller's trophy-laden Bayern career to come to an end (0:58)Take a look at the incredible numbers and trophies behind Thomas Müller's Bayern Munich career as the 35-year-old announces he will leave the club this summer
Bayern Munich midfielder/forward Thomas Müller has rejected a contract offer from FC Cincinnati
The news was first reported by German publication Bild
Müller, 35, announced earlier this month that he will leave Bayern as a free agent when his contract expires this summer
Cincinnati owns Müller's MLS discovery rights
a mechanism that acts as a right of first refusal for the team
though those rights can be traded to another MLS team in exchange for salary cap space
Cincinnati's current roster structure only allows for it to have two Designated Players
but the club could opt to modify that structure to allow a third when the summer transfer window opens on July 24
Müller is a Bayern Munich legend having won 12 Bundesliga titles, six German Cups, eight German Super Cups and two UEFA Champions League titles
He has scored over 260 goals for the Bavarian giants in over 780 appearances across all competitions
This season he has recorded six goals and six assists in all competitions
At international level, Müller has scored 45 goals in 131 appearances for Germany
and was part of the side that claimed the 2014 World Cup

He still worked traffic details like the one outside a May 2 commencement ceremony at the University of Cincinnati
Hamilton County Sheriff Charmaine McGuffey described him as a “tremendous person.”
“He was so well-liked and well-known,” McGuffey said
“In Deputy Henderson’s early tenure as a Sheriff’s Deputy
I recognized his talent for teaching and presentation," she said in a release

“This was an agreement made between the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office and Clermont County for what I was described as the defendant’s safety," Yates told The Enquirer
"They did not want to have any questions about him being held in Hamilton County as a matter of safety
because the officer had been a Hamilton County deputy sheriff.”
CINCINNATI (WKRC) - The family of Ryan Hinton has hired attorneys to look into his death during an officer-involved shooting
They said they met with Cincinnati Police Chief Teresa Theetge before the body cam was released to the media
Attorney Michael Wright says everyone only saw one angle
"What we saw in the video is hard to determine whether or not that officer was in imminent danger or should have thought that they were in imminent danger before they took shots," said Wright
They have requested other officers' body cams and the police reports
They don't believe the shooting was cut-and-dry
so that's not a death penalty," said Wright
In an appearance on Lincoln Ware's radio show on Monday
Chief Theetge says they know the sequence of events in which Ryan had a firearm
"We do know that he exited the vehicle with a gun in his hand; the officer saw that
That's when the officer said he saw the gun in his hand," said Chief Theetge
said he saw two scared people in that body cam video
"What I've seen was two persons made a mistake; my grandson made a mistake being there
he was trying to get back to his family too," said Hinton Sr
"I have to bring the peace to this; there's no violence in this
Damarlyn Howard couldn't hold back tears as he spoke about his cousin
"He had no business being in a stolen car; he had a bed to come home to," said Howard
Ryan's family also offered condolences to the family of retired deputy Larry Henderson
"I would hope that the tensions in this city would relax
that everyone would just wait and not rush the judgment on either side
we can get through this," said Wright
The family did not want to discuss his alleged actions or case
The lawyer for the Hinton family confirmed the father is alive after saying earlier the man had died
The lawyer said there was confusion in communication with the family
The crash resulted in the deputy's death and the driver being listed in critical condition at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center
has been arrested and charged with aggravated murder
The deputy was outside of his vehicle operating a traffic light near the corner of Martin Luther King Drive and Burnet Woods in Corryville around 1 p.m
Cincinnati police Chief Teresa Theetge said during a press conference while flanked by at least 30 law enforcement officers
many of whom had solemn expressions on their faces or tears in their eyes
"The officer was just out doing his job," Theetge said of the deputy
Officials have withheld the deputy's name, citing Marsy’s Law, legislation meant to protect victims of crimes
Theetge said the crash was related to the May 1 fatal police shooting of an 18-year-old in the Westview Condominiums' parking lot and identified the man's dad as the driver who struck the deputy
Hamilton County Sheriff Charmaine McGuffey said the deputy was a “tremendous person.”
She said the deputy had retired from the sheriff’s office
but still assisted as a “special deputy.”
Others who knew the deputy took to social media to commemorate his life and public service
“This is devastating. I had worked with him since we were young cops,” Newtown police Chief Tom Synan said in a Facebook post
“Always one of the first to check on and help you
McGuffey said there would be a procession for the slain deputy
“Our deputy will not be alone,” McGuffey said
“There will be someone with him until the day that he transitions to higher ground.”
A UC commencement ceremony started at 3 p.m.
UC President Neville Pinto opened the afternoon ceremony by calling for a moment of silence, according to Enquirer media partner Fox 19
Theetge held a separate press conference to discuss details of the shooting in East Price Hill
Theetge said uniformed police officers confronted four suspects inside a 2021 Kia Telluride
but had GPS capabilities that allowed law enforcement to track the vehicle
All four suspects exited the Kia and started running from police
leaving the officers to decide whom they wanted to pursue
One officer started chasing the armed suspect
adding the officer saw the suspect’s gun and called out to let others know there was a weapon
That suspect was later identified as 18-year-old Ryan Hinton
Hinton tripped but continued to run between two dumpsters with a gun in his hand
Theetge said that police on the scene reported hearing the handgun fall to the ground and images showed scrapes on the weapon
The other officer was pursuing someone else when Hinton emerged from between the dumpsters
The body camera showed the officer fired four to five rounds at Hinton as he ran in the officer’s direction
While it’s unclear from the blurred body camera footage
the officer who fired the shots said in interviews that Hinton pointed the gun at him
While there was no indication Hinton fired off any rounds toward officers
police said the gun was loaded with an extended magazine
Hinton died despite officers’ efforts to provide medical aid at the scene
The crash happened roughly two hours after Hinton’s family viewed video footage of the man’s death
Michael Wright of the Cochran Law Firm said he was with the family as they reviewed body camera footage between 10 a.m
He said that Hinton's father was "very distraught."
"He couldn't finish watching the video," the attorney said
"It was very difficult to watch for the family."
Wright said he didn’t want to speculate on Rodney Hinton Jr.'s intentions
"This was a good family," the attorney added
"This was a family that was very close-knit."
Wright described the younger Hinton as a "great kid
Officials said the Cincinnati Police Department’s traffic and homicide units are handling the investigation into the crash
Enquirer media partner Fox 19 provided photos for this report
In the days after a fatal Cincinnati police shooting in East Price Hill, The Enquirer has examined the brief clips of body camera footage the department released to learn more about how those "six quick seconds" unfolded
Roughly 20 seconds of body camera video from two officers at an apartment complex the morning of May 1 show officers chasing on foot a fleeing suspect in a stolen car investigation
whom police later identified as 18-year-old Ryan Hinton
tripping on some concrete in front of a set of dumpsters
He drops what police said was a Glock .40-caliber pistol recovered at the scene
Hinton then continues between the two dumpsters with what appears to be the pistol in his right hand
The officer alerts his partner on the other side of the dumpster that Hinton has a gun
The partner catches up to Hinton and fires five consecutive shots at him
Two bullets strike Hinton: one in the chest and one in the arm
Who are the Hintons? What we know about man charged with killing a Hamilton County deputy
Chief Teresa Theetge said in a press conference the day after the shooting that the time between when the suspects ran from police to when the shooting happened was “six quick seconds.”
Theetge said the officer who shot Hinton believed the teen pointed the gun at him during the quick encounter
"The individual is running with a firearm in his hand
so the body camera is kind of jolting as the officer is running
What that leaves us with a very blurred image
the officer who did discharge his firearm said that when the individual came out between the dumpsters
The department has not released the name of the officer who shot Hinton
For years, the department would release the names and information about officers involved. However, in recent months, the department has been withholding that information, citing Marsy's Law, legislation meant to protect victims of crimes
The day after the police shooting, Hinton's father, Rodney Hinton, Jr., drove his car into a Hamilton County Sheriff's deputy directing traffic
