CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — An Easter Sunday pursuit in Clarksburg resulted in the arrest of a convicted felon after suspicious activity was reported near a storage facility.
Deputies with the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department observed the activity on Simpson Street, and when they attempted to make contact with the suspect, he fled on a motorcycle.
The suspect, identified as Isaiah Hunter Thompson, fled at a high rate of speed while trying to evade police by riding through a residential yard. Thompson ditched the motorcycle and was captured after a failed attempt to flee on foot.
Thompson was found to be armed with a handgun and wearing a ski mask under his helmet. Thompson was also found with a satchel that contained approximately 256.7 grams of suspected methamphetamine and 69.4 grams of suspected fentanyl.
He is a convicted felon with a prior felony conviction for possession with intent to deliver in April of 2021.
Thompson has been charged with fleeing with reckless indifference, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine and fentanyl.
“Harrison County law enforcement remains committed to keeping our streets safe from dangerous drivers and violent offenders. Fleeing from law enforcement creates unnecessary and unacceptable risks to our community — risks to children, families, and anyone who happens to be nearby,” Sheriff Robert Matheny II said.

$1.85 million Erie County Investment Rehabilitates 100-year-old Bridge in Eden Over the
South Branch of Eighteen Mile Creek; Project is Substantially Complete and Open to Traffic
NY— The Erie County Department of Public Works’ Highways Division has announced the substantial completion of the Clarksburg Road bridge over the South Branch of Eighteen Mile Creek in Eden
This historic bridge was struck in the truss’s northeast corner by a propane truck on October 15
causing major damage to the bridge. The bridge was immediately closed to all traffic
including the complete removal of the bridge and replacement with a more modern steel bridge. The selected alternative was to rehabilitate the existing bridge
replacing damaged components with those that matched the original construction to the best extent possible
thereby maintaining the historic appearance of the bridge. The work included both repairs to those areas damaged by the truck impact
as well as to those which were otherwise deteriorating and in need of repairs
Bids for the work were opened in August 2023
Work began in Spring 2024 and the bridge was re-opened to traffic in December 2024
Crews will be completing minor site work and related paving at the bridge this Spring
“Bridges are a critical but very expensive part of our infrastructure
and our Erie County weather ensures that they need a lot of maintenance,” said Commissioner of Public Works Bill Geary
“The Clarksburg bridge is a relatively small but still important span in Eden
and this investment will give it many more years of useful life.”
The bridge will remain posted for fifteen tons and restricted to a single lane of traffic
matching its original historic characteristics.

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — Clarksburg police arrested a soggy assault suspect after a foot pursuit of more than 30 minutes.
On April 18, officers were dispatched to a location on Coleman Avenue on a report of a suspicious person looking into vehicles and spoke to Danny Payne, 47. Payne told police he was looking for his friend and began to walk in the direction of Adamston.
A short time later, police observed Payne walk into a parking lot on West Pike Street where an assault had taken place earlier.
The victim of the assault identified his attacker as Payne and said he hit him in the head with a 19-inch steel pipe.
Police said the victim has a knot and an open wound to the head.
Payne then fled on foot from the scene into the woods and into the river before being captured along River Road near Comfort Court.
Payne has been charged with malicious assault and is being held in North Central Regional Jail on a $10,000 bond.
